A Day To Remember….

Morning all.

Mikel Arteta rotated his team heavily for yesterday’s final league game of the season. No surprise really with such a big match less than a week away. Max Dowman became the youngest player to ever start a Premier League fixture. Kepa started in goal and made one top notch save whereas Gabriel Jesus started up front, squandering three glorious opportunities to score before finally making it 1-0 to The Arsenal after firing home the most difficult chance. That’s Jesus for you. Noni Madueke scored our second with a shot which somehow missed every defender before hitting the back of the net. Gabriel Martinelli and then later in the game, Ebe Eze saw really going chances go begging. Mateta halved the deficit late in the game and then for a moment, it looked like Palace had snatched a point but the linesman flag went up and Arsenal held tight for the win.

I’d like to say I watched the game in great detail but honestly, I didn’t. I was enjoying the occasion rather than the game because like every Arsenal fan, I knew what was coming.

Mikel Merino made his return during the second half and it was great to see him back on the pitch. He nearly scored but snatched at his chance. One he’d have probably buried pre injury. Ebe Eze made an appearance from the bench and was greeted by a supportive home crowd, his winning goal in last seasons FA Cup will never be forgotten. He really should have scored though.

For once though, I doubt any Arsenal fan really cared about the missed opportunities, because the domestic aim for the season had been achieved. Even Mikel Arteta appeared as cool as a cucumber on the sidelines.

By the end though, we finished the season seven points ahead of City so it wasn’t really that close at all.

With the game over, the players celebrated with their fans, waiting for the big moment to arrive and when it came, it didn’t disappoint. Stan and Josh Kroenke carried the weighty Premier League Trophy onto the pitch and the players stepped up one by one to receive their winners medal. That was until it came to Martin Odegaard’s turn. The trophy was in his hands, he lofted it high into the air and the celebrations truly began.

Mikel Arteta was thrown into the air by his players, William Saliba shouted into the camera “I love this club” but the very special moment came when players and all the staff sang North London Forever together. That was emotional.

I particularly enjoyed watching players individually and collectively engage with the Arsenal fans, William Saliba and Bukayo Saka were funny. Seeing Mikel Arteta with his wife and children was special, there’s clearly a lot of love within that family. I loved the players and Arteta’s honesty when they spoke to the Sky Sports team which included Ian Wright. No arrogance, no smugness, just joy. They spoke about tough times, tough meetings and big characters, Christian Norgaard one player both Bukayo and Declan mentioned. It showed that it doesn’t matter if a player was first through the door or last, whether he plays every week or every once in a while, each player respects each other and values his input.

This season has been magical. Not always easy on the eye perhaps but when the end result produces a Premier League trophy and winners medals, perhaps searching for perfection doesn’t always reap the reward.

Did you know that Arsenal have had the most shots on goal, 112 up until last Tuesday according to Sky Sports, against teams who had NINE players defending in their own box. We scored 12 goals which is more than Liverpool and Man City managed. Next season, I reckon we’ll see far more find the back of the net.

For now though, I don’t care, just as I don’t care what people write or say about Arsenal Football Club because it’s us, The Arsenal, who are Premier League Champions and no one can ever take that away from us.

Now let’s go and conquer Europe!

The best thing Stan Kroenke done for the club was let Josh have more control as he seems to be more InTouch with the fans than stan is.

Thanks for the heads up on tickets, fella’s. It may have to be the Taunton Sports Bar for me, but I do love a trip to Cardiff.

It was good to see Stan and Josh in all their sartorial elegance carrying the trophy together. They’ve walked a long road with the club to get us to this point. Thank God they saw off Uzmanov, a man who would have tainted Arsenal with the stench of corruption.

Seems like I’m going to need to pack my shades and suntan lotion when I come over. What are the temps in the New Forest, Rico?

Yes Rico, I do miss her unique view on all things Arsenal…

As for what AGAG is up to?
Well, I’d imagine it’s probably something to do with retail therapy and Jimmy Choo. 😁

Hi Lee, yes Rico I did notice but I wasn’t sure if it was our Scott.

I wonder if we’ll hear from SYG or Meerkat?

I know Rico, I remember how you always stood up for Stan and Josh without fail, even when me and the lads were moaning about them over a curry, I have to admit that you really proved me wrong once again… 😉

Mikel Arteta admitted when Arsenal finished second three years in a row, there were times when he had serious doubts about whether he was the man to get the club over the line.
He said “I’ve taken this club so far but maybe someone else has to come in and finish the job.”
He then revealed that Josh Kroenke told him, we’re going to do it and we’re going to do it with you.
Josh Kroenke was never going to give up on Mikel Arteta.

Seeing Stan and Josh walk across the pitch with the trophy was totally surreal, Stan still looks awkward in the spotlight but Josh really got into it and I guess the positivity they now receive from the fans lightens the mood. Initially they struggled to connect with the fan base, mainly because of the politics in the Boardroom, but since they took total control everything has changed and they’re now showing us the right ambition and involvement.

Regarding tickets, my son used to text me the QR code to get in but this season if you text the QR, all the recipient gets is a black screen.

Stuart , getting a ticket for Cardiff might not be easy , to get one officially you will have to be a member for an electronic transfer and buying one on the black market is fraught with danger. Look into the ticketing rules ,If everything is electric and done with QR codes they can’t be just copied and pasted. I have seen a number of people not getting in to our place having bought them online.

The day went as expected , Spurs survived , just, and we are are champions for quite a large margin.
All’s well that ends well.

I believe it’s a day off for the players and then it’s eyes down for Budapest and the final hurrah. Lets hope for faces full of smiles next Sunday.

I think that our chance of getting rid of Spurs has probably gone 2 finishes at17th was probably our best chance but I think De Zerbi will probably have enough to get them to mid table.

He will have to be really active in the summer because too many players will need to be turned over.

Morning Champions, morning Rico, great post, I had a great day at my sons place with family and friends, North London Forever was played about 40 times at various points of the afternoon and evening whilst watching Arsenal was just calmness itself.

The only time we got really agitated was when Tottenham actually scored and then we watched those complete mugs celebrate at the final whistle as if they’d actually won a major trophy, it was so embarrassing but the celebration police said nix, because it wasn’t Arsenal of course. The British media is full of losers.

My son and his best mate Bill were discussing their travel plans to Hungary, via Munich outbound and direct home bound, at an eye watering premium. I wish I was going, well a part of me wishes I was going, fortunately the sensible part is glad I’m watching the game at home on the TV, but kudos to them, I pray we get the right result this time…

Good morning Rico and all

A delicious post Rico…..as delicious as a glass of red wine (for me at least).

The coming season will surely be different attacking wise. I guess we will have one or two new players in the forward department for sure. Arteta will be one year older and a year wiser. Fingers crossed they all learn from this season, as much as we learned from the previous ones.

Morning Rico and all, a very good write up Rico, and as other have said the way the players took the trophy close to the fans for photos was great to see while impressed with the way the older players made sure the younger ones felt a big part of the team.

The smile on Arteta face when the players through him up in air, was priceless.

SNG, have you rung the club direct for advice regarding tickets for the charity shield match.

Good evening from the dark side of the planet. Thanks for the post Rico. You do do well with the photographs. I’ll be flying in next week, staying in Somerset through to September. May get to see the AB’s in Cardiff and, does anyone have any insights as to how I might get a ticket for the Charity Shield match, which I believe is also being staged in Wales?
