Yipes, it’s Yepes!! Welbeck Assures Arsenal Fans…

Morning all.

A host of the world’s top bosses have joined forces for the annual managers’ meeting held at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
On Wednesday and Thursday, former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson chaired the 16th Elite Club Coaches Forum meeting as UEFA’s coaching ambassador while president Michel Platini was also present.

Where's the midget?
Where’s the midget?

Imagine that lot all chatting together, I bet is was a right barrel of laughs!

Good to see Arsene Wenger and Fergie having time to smile about things though, perhaps they were discussing Manchester United’s performances last season.. Mourinho was there honest but perhaps he was dumped in the back row for the photograph and his head is somewhere around the height of AVB’s knees…..!

Funny how LvG wasn’t present and neither was Brenda Rogers……. Ah, it’s for managers whose club are participating in Europe so that counts for LvG’s absence and maybe the organisers simply forgot that Liverpool are involved this year. Easy done I guess after so long…

Ok, claws back in….

Seeing as the official website are milking the signing of Danny Welbeck, it’s only fitting I do to. He’s been talking about his heroes in the game and what he wants the fans to know:

Q- You have an Arsenal link because one of your boyhood heroes was Thierry Henry…

I loved watching Thierry Henry since I was a little kid. My two idols are Ryan Giggs and Thierry Henry so to come to the club where he was and had so much success at is something you can look up to and try to stamp your own print on the club.

I get that re Ryan Giggs….

Then, the great Thierry Henry. I get why every striker aspires to the man, I really do. Henry was, is and always will be, one of the greatest and most clinical strikers to have played the game. There’s a reason he remains our all time highest goal scorer and that’s because he was top top class. World class and if Welbeck can turn out to be half as good as him, he’ll be loved by all Arsenal fans…

Talking of those fans.

Q- What’s your message to the fans?

I just want them to know that I will give 100 per cent in every single game. I play with my heart on my sleeve and I’m always going to give my best. I’ll try to give them so many happy days in the coming future.

Can’t ask for more than that can we…….

The Daily Star is one of a number of newspapers which claim that Arsene Wenger is set to offer 38 year old Mario Yepes a short-term deal to help solve our lack of numbers in central defence….

On that note, have a good one folks….

Morning all. I for one am excited about Welbeck. I know that people are discontent that we didn’t buy Cavani/Falcao, but if he turns out good then everyone will forgive Wenger.

Also, just heard that UEFA are considering a special punishment for divers. Like in handball, where you get a 2 minute disqualification, you could get a 5 min disqualification if you dive..

  2. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning writer and readers.

Good post Rico….the midget was taking the photo. They had to procure a stool so that he could reach the camera.

Yepes???? What can I say more? A WC performer.but that is all. He is what???? 58 years old????

Still enough time for Wath and Kev then.

On yer bikes lads. and pump iron in the gym.

  3. Scott From Oz says:

    Morning all.
    38 year old?
    Damn!!
    There’s hope for me yet.
    5 minutes…..I’d give divers 12 months, but I’m nasty 🙂

  4. rico says:

    Thanks Devil..

Me too Scott, well, certainly more than they get at the moment..

Adk, I’m looking forward to seeing Welbeck too…

  5. Wavy says:

Bouldy or Keown could still do a god job!
    Morning all.
How about calling up Ian Ure or Terry Neill. They are mature enough and they could reintroduce the long ball game to Aresnal’s immaculate tactical game!
Yepes, the name even sounds like some kind of nasty sexually transmitted disease. Ffs!

  6. George says:

    yepes lol Wath behave….STD

We should sign Bouldy up as emergency, he looks fit and is probably a better defender

  7. rico says:

For repeat offenders Scott, I’d agree but they’ll never bring in such a thing sadly…

Lee, but he’s not in the main picture is he?

  8. Bt62 Gooner says:

Having zoomed into the photo, i see that AW is still looking to heavens, for divine inspiration or he has just spotted the flying dwarf…

  9. ArsenalDK says:

Rico, if a dive was to be punished with a red card and a 3 match ban, then we would never see the likes of Rooney, Suarez, Cristiano again.. Hell we would never see the likes of the whole Chelsea team again 😉

  10. frednerk says:

Khadira can sign for who he likes in 3 months time for free or we can buy him for around 3-5mil..Um.

Diving will always be in the game its an art,I don’t like it
but it protects the forwards from getting smashed into every time they get into the box.

  11. dublingunner says:

morning, ah ,these stories normally start up if the press think were short in some areas after deadline day. we had it last season, when we didnt buy a striker, a romanian centre forwards name was getting linked with us, It,s highly unlikely, But saying that you feel if wenger thinks he,s fit enough to stand in if kos, or merts picks up a 2 or 3 week abscence, He could do a job. He was a very good tough defender.

  12. Nickie says:

    Morning all,

    Good post Rico.

Doesn’t anyone find it strange Wenger hasn’t had anything to day on Welbeck yet? Was it his choice?

  13. rico says:

Morning Nickie, thanks. Yes, very strange. Apparently he didn’t mutter a word about Arshavin for weeks after he signed either.

    Wenger signing of Gazidis etc??

  14. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Lee – Either your eyesight is vastly superior to mine, not beyond possibility, or you are seeing things. Even under magnification I couldn’t see the malignant midget Maureen Yo. Mind you that is probably – NO definitely beneficial.

Wavy – Yepes – STD? As long as he only infects the opposition, I could live with it. However, I think even Arsenal’s medical staff would be capable of spotting something like that.

  15. rico says:

    🙂 Lee, ‘orrid little man…

Good job we didn’t sign Khedira then, Wenger would have been blasted after he’s now injured…

  16. frednerk says:

    Rico,
Worked for this mega millionaire years ago,the shop floor so to speak would have a few bit’s and piece’s flying around off the back of lorry’s if you know what I mean,
he came up to me one day and ask me if I knew anything about it,why do you want to know ,I asked him.
He said just cos I’m rich, I still like a bargain..wink wink

  17. Nickie says:

I hope he doesn’t ruin Welbeck like he did Arshavin. With the right guidance he could be a big player for us. There were some glimpses of a top quality player vs Norway plus I like how he has addressed us in his interview, seems fully focused on Arsenal and keen to do well for club and fans.

  18. Joaqum Moreira says:

    I hope we sign Yepes.
    J. Mourinho,AVB,Jorge Jesus (Benfica), Nuno Espirito Santo (Betis) are all presente.
One decison of last meeting was that I told yesterday: the winner of Europe League go through the CL.

  19. Wavy says:

CG the medics would recognise an STD in the players but only if they have seen it at first hand! Some would slide through the net! So to speak.
Fred, that’s why your boss was a millionaire, he spent nothing, just saved and saved and saved. The development of the ducks arse is an inevitable side effect! It is treatable but it is inordinately expensive!!

  20. Canadian Gooner says:

Nickie – Welbeck seems to be self motivated to improve himself. Some of our former players like Arshavin, Bentley and Bendtner weren’t. They were of a more artistic temperment and needed inspiration to play. Arshavin seemed more interested in women’s fashion than football and Bendtner had his women’s jewelery line. I’ve no idea what Bentley’s artistic ‘talent’ is/was and I don’t want to know, but again it wasn’t football.

I don`t think Arsene will spoil Danny. He may well be the making of them.

  21. rico says:

I think it’s quite sad that in this day and age, adverts/campaigns like that one are still needed to bring everyone together….

  22. rico says:

Yes Cg, I think Welbeck is out to prove a lot, not only to himself and Arsenal, but I bet he wants to be able to stick his fingers up at LvG…

  23. Nickie says:

We’ll see re Welbeck, the more I think about him and watch his videos/performances the more I’m liking the thought of him as striker in our team

  24. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – It is sad, but some people seem to need someone else to blame for all their troubles. I usually blame mine on politicians (of any and all political or sexual persuasions and ethnic origins) and banks (regardless of country of origin or their political system).

Seriously though, only by speaking out individually and together can we move beyond the fear, hate and mistrust of someone different that is at the root of all wars.

It is a shame that players like Mario Balotelli feels more comfortable in England than in his native country due to their intolerence to people of another colour.

  25. dublingunner says:

I agree rico, monday night i was very underwhelmed by the signing, but he has come across as if he,d rather be playing for our badge, than united,s and promises the fans ,he will give 110 %. I have warmed to him. Let,s make a world class striker out of im, and rub their noses in it.

  26. rico says:

Cg – agree. Either that or their own life is so boring, they like to ridicule others.

Live and let live I say but like you, I understand why such moves have to be made. Maybe one day, a few generations ahead, all will be so very different in the world…

  27. rico says:

    Hi fat-gun, dublin..

DW is certainly saying the right things.. I love the fact that we’ll have a striker with pace up front who is better than Sanogo. Much better…

Of course he’s not as exciting as signing someone like Costa etc, but if he get’s 20+ goals a season, I think we’ll all be happy and in this team, he’ll certainly get the chances I’m sure…

  28. potter says:

Sott , can you find out from Joseph whether he was served / refused a ticket and then sold a ticket by a man or a woman and I know it’s a long shot whether he got a name or a description. The box office want the ins and outs of a ducks backside before they will drop the party line of blaming everyone but themselves.

  29. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – I truly hope you are right, but there are far too many people willing to promote, stoke and use that fear, hatred and mistrust for their own nefarious purposes. It would be great if all we had to argue about was the results of the most recent game of (insert the sport or sports of your choice).

On that note, I`m off for the night. I have a lot to do before the weather changes for the autumn and winter. Have a great day everyone.

    Keep The Faith!

  30. dublingunner says:

I think he knows having the nucleas of the english set up, and the fact, that there are world cup winners, and top proven international players around him, He can learn a lot and hopefully blossom.

  31. Joaquim Moreira says:

    rumours:
    Jonas(Valência) – Benfica
    Valdez (Bacelona) – Liverpool
    Park still free…
    Ladies: Arsenal 2 Chelsea 3….

  32. potter says:

I find it quite sad that the club to align itself with all of these fringe campaigns , I sometimes wonder if the energy spent on being the games all round good guy could be better spent on getting their own house in order and promoting the team. It is after all a football club and whether the person standing next to me is of any persuasion is totally immaterial . I go to watch football , hopefully so do the others that enter too.

  33. frednerk says:

The leaning tower of Pisa..otherwise known as zigic reckons we were in for him……Yer mate ..who told you that…………..
Ah your hard working agent………….must be true then.

  34. goonster says:

Wavy you re a legend….Hahahahahahahahahahahahah yepez does sound like an STD though. Gosh I haven’t laughed that hard in weeks. Thanks man you made my day. Morning good people.

  35. AndrewH says:

Afternoon rico! My heart sunk when I heard ‘England striker sent for scan after injury in training’, but luckily its Sturridge not Welbeck. So many long-term injuries to strikers already and seasons only just started. Carroll – months, Giroud – months, Benteke – months, Odemwingie – months.

  36. rico says:

    Afternoon Andrew…

A big phew, I wouldn’t be so cruel to suggest I am pleased to hear that about Sturridge. I wouldn’t, honest..

Benteke out again? That’s horrid, he’s only just come back hasn’t he?

  37. rico says:

Has a player moving to us seen so many players/ex players come out with a view…?

I don’t think so, and most seem to think LvG has made a big mistake…

  38. AndrewH13 says:

Its strange isn’t it? just reading Heskey.
Can they all be wrong or have we got just what we need ?

I think it seems he is well liked within the game which is a good sign.
Being pessimistic, I still see the Arsenal injury curse getting him and Sanago back, poor fella. Feel better when we have Giroud and Welbeck both to pick from. Must have a six footer up front instead of midgets all playing tippy-tappy.

  39. AndrewH13 says:

I think Welbz unlucky to join us on a day we wanted other positions filled. The signing looks better every day since when you look at it objectively. I dont care who a player used to play for if he wants to play for us now. Unless he is vcalled Silvestre!

  40. AndrewH13 says:

True! In fact if Keane and Nisolroy had signed I could not have have remained a supporter. Nor would Keown!

  41. potter says:

Not much doing with the internationals taking their standard toll . I see Ozil is out for Germany with an ankle knock.

  42. BrainwashedKev says:

    Morning All

Morning Rico, great post (I just know it will be 😀 )

Loved the way Jack Wilshere has put down ‘the idiot’ that is Jamie Rednapp…

  43. allezkev says:

Cazorla can fill in the Ozil role, as he did at Wembley in the Charity Shield…

Rosicky could have a chance to prove a point?

  44. allezkev says:

Looking forward to seeing Welbeck prove certain people wrong…

He’s been ‘written off’ so to speak, as only a 15 goal a season striker…

Not sure that he should be at only 23…

How many EPL goals did Sturridge get last season and how many EPL games did he play…?

Welbeck will get a chance to play thru the middle.
    He’ll get wonderful service.
    The opportunities will be there.
    His confidence should grow.
    The goals should flow…

Doesn’t seem a problem to me?

  45. potter says:

Scott :- they say that the ticket was there and he did not turn up for it. They keep asking me who he spoke to and I keep reiterating that I don’t know as I was not there. They do say however that he bought a ticket , so I have to assume that he was at the ticket office to get one . No sense in any of it really . In some ways I feel it would be better to drop it but I think that’s what they want. When I told them that they were all time winners because I have paid for the ticket and they sold him another so they got paid twice , they got really upset , I suppose truth hurts.
