Wishing Well.

Afternoon all.

I don’t know the full story and I’m not going to guess but whatever is going on with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, I wish him well. He’s a human being, a footballer and right now, he’s an Arsenal player. It doesn’t matter that his form has been off, nor does it matter that he was dropped and subsequently removed from his role as captain. Not now. What matters is if there’s a problem with his heart as is being reported in the media, I hope doctors/consultants can fix him. Whether or not he’ll continue to play football at any level, let alone at Premier League or international level remains to be seen. I doubt that really matters to him or his family at this moment in time.

According to headlines on NN and other media outlet, Aubameyang is, or has already, returned to England.

Incredibly, Christian Eriksen, who suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at the Euro’s in 2020, could be on his way back to the Premier League. Italian footballing rules don’t allow someone to play with an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator so Inter Milan released him from his contract last month. Brentford are rumoured to be trying to sign him on a six month deal.

Fabrice Muamba had to call time on his career though after he too suffered a cardiac arrest during Bolton’s FA Cup match against Tottenham. His heart stopped beating for over an hour but thankfully, he lived to tell the tale. If Wiki is up to date, he’s a coach at Rochdale in their academy.

You wouldn’t think these finely tuned, super fit athletes would suffer with heart issues because of the strict diet they’re on but as most of us are probably aware, the heart doesn’t work that way. A good friend of mine suffered a fatal heart attack a few months ago and he was as fit as a fiddle. Tennis twice a week, golf, goodness knows how many times a week and a good diet. From the outside, he looked like he’d go on forever, but no, his time was up, despite his cholesterol readings always being fine.

Sometimes we’re lucky, for the want of a better word, because we get a warning. Surgery, medication, whatever’s recommended, follows and we carry on. Not always at the same pace, or doing the same job, but we carry on.

Perhaps this is what Aubameyang has had, a warning which is telling him his time as a top international footballer is over and life for him must take a different direction. He’s fortunate of course because he can get the best treatment and care because of his career in the game. A career that right now, none of us know whether or not he’ll be able to continue.

I just hope he recovers well, that’s all.

See you in the comments.

Afternoon Rico, nice to see you back.

Norton-Cuffy off to Lincoln City on loan.
Kolasinac off to Marseille for good (Sorry Sue)

  2. Sue says:

Hi Rico.. Well said. Really feel for Pierre; he’s had such a torrid time of late, would hate for his career to come to such an abrupt end.. hopefully that won’t be the case.
Well it looks like Thursday will go ahead.. Cedric is injured though, didn’t think it [hip] looked that bad but must’ve been! I have a dilemma now – the football or Yellow jackets finale 😄

Those of you wondering what Heart Lesions are may be helped by this explanation from the National Library of Medicine:- Three types of small cardiac lesions were described and illustrated: (1) focal type of papillary muscle fibrosis, evidently a healed infarct of the papillary muscle present in 13% of autopsies, is a histologically characteristic lesion associated with coronary artery disease and healed myocardial infarction, (2) diffuse type of papillary muscle fibrosis, probably an aging change present in almost half of the autopsies, is associated with sclerosis of the arteries in the papillary muscle, is identifiable histologically, and apparently is not associated with any cardiac abnormality, and (3) focal cardiac myocytolysis, a unique histologic lesion, usually multifocal without predilection for any area of the heart, is associated with ischemic heard disease, death due to cancer complicated by nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis and microthrombi in small cardiac arteries as well as with other diseases. Differentiation of the 2 types of papillary muscle fibrosis is important in the study of papillary muscle and mitral valve dysfunction. Focal cardiac myocytolysis may contribute to the fatal extension of myocardial infarcts.

    Helpful?

  4. Cicero says:

No television for a fortnight for me Sue, my wife has taken over the remote control and the only thing showing 24/7 is the Australian Open Tennis. 😒

  5. rico says:

Hi Sue. Aubameyang has certainly been through the mill. He’s not been right for a long time imo. I’d hoped he come back from the ACON in better spirits and help the team push for a top four spot because it’s unlikely we’d have sold him.

  6. Sue says:

I was hoping for that also, Rico.. who knows now, he may even still be on MA’s naughty step.
Comoros are 1-0 up and Ghana are down to 10 men!! Shall we book TP’s flight?! 😜

Our U23s are live on Arsenal.com, currently 1-0 up..

That Vlahovic is doing my swede in! He thinks very highly of himself as does his agent and they’re after all they can get!! Dodged a bullet?!

  7. rico says:

    He probably is Sue.

I’m on the Virgin website as I type.. 😂

If he really wanted to join, he’d have moved by now if the stories are true. We need players who want to be at Arsenal, not ones who’d rather go elsewhere.

  8. Johnno says:

Amazing how many sporting athletes are suddenly having problems with their ticker, ain’t it? Very suspicious.

  9. Rick says:

    Evening Rico and the House.
Goals by Flores (2) Henry Frances and 16 year old Cozier-Duberry have given
    our U23’s a 4-0 win against Bournmouth.
4players Kirk, Awe, Swason and Cotteral all returned from long time injurys
That brings the number inured down to 4 or 5 ( I think)
Plenty to look forward to in the next week.
Tomrrow Women home to Man u
    Thurs Liverpool
    Friday U23′ away to Derby
Sunday Women away to Man C
Tuesday U21’s away ti Wigan PapperJohns

  10. ScottfromOz says:

    Morning all.
I’m sure we all agree Auba’s welfare is the most important thing right now, so let’s hope he recovers ASAP.
It’s absolutely obvious that the vaccine is okaying havoc with some people’s health, and especially involving the heart.
Nobody can refute that, and yet nobody wants to talk about it.
Just look at the players in various sports around the world who’ve had issues, it is no coincidence and plenty hadn’t had Covid at that point in time so the common denominator for them remains the jab.
The Australia governments own website (TGA) shows the adverse reactions from the jab, so it’s hardly going to Inflate the numbers, and yet it’s frightening.
“Shhhh though, don’t talk about it and maybe it’ll all go away” seems the attitude of people, at least here in Oz.
Bloody hell, 2 mates who like me aren’t vaccinated, had Covid around the same time as I did, had bugger all issues at all and we all tell the same story of other mates and family members who’ve been bed ridden or worse, and all say “thank goodness I was were vaccinated else I’d be even worse off” and tell us we were just lucky.
    FFs really?
36 deaths in my state this past 24 hours, 33 fully vaccinated.
Let me iterate I’m not against the vaccine-it’s clearly the best defence for a lot of people, it simply shouldn’t be forced upon anyone, imo, especially kids, it should be an individuals decision.

  11. rico says:

Yep, third is possible if the players can stay fit and focused.

Evening Rick, lets hope it’s good for Arsenal across the board.

There’s little, no scientific evidence to suggest heart problems and the Covid vaccine are linked. At least I’ve not seen any evidence. Maybe Covid has affected peoples long term health, but I doubt the vaccine has.

  12. rico says:

    From the BHF.

Is there any link between the Covid-19 vaccine and cardiac arrests at football matches?

No, there isn’t. There have been a number of cardiac arrests at football matches in recent months, amongst fans and players. But there is no evidence for any link to the vaccine, despite some misleading reports on social media. We can’t even say for sure that there have been more cardiac arrests than usual. Research has showed that having previously had a coronavirus infection is much more likely than the Covid-19 vaccine to lead to heart problems – although these cardiac arrests may not be linked to coronavirus infection either.

These rumours began after Denmark’s Christian Eriksen suffered on-field cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 in the summer. Inter Milan have since confirmed that he had not yet been vaccinated at the time of his collapse.

An on-field collapse or cardiac arrest can be the first sign of a heart condition, and is not necessarily associated with myocarditis.

  13. ScottfromOz says:

Rico, I’m adamant we’ve been lied to since day 1 on this subject.
Even our governments way of reporting positive test numbers has changed to suit the narrative.
Originally, no mention of underlying health conditions was offered until the vaccine numbers started rising, then they could not wait to tell us that yes, the deceased was fully vaccinated but was in poor health already.
I’ve lost any and all trust in my government and media, and unfortunately.
Surely, we can’t ignore the fact that we didn’t have players dropping on the field in anywhere the numbers we’ve recently seen prior to the vaccine though.
The odd time it happened blew us all away, yet now it’s almost common place.
Scary stuff, and hopefully, whatever the case, the truth does surface on all of this and we can get back to some sort of normality.
My daughter hasn’t had Covid, but got pericarditis from the jab and though the doctors tried to deflect attention away from the jab, they ended up conceding it was the cause.
That’s absolute proof in my books.

  14. Aussie Geoff says:

    Afternoon Rico and all.

In Victoria we have been lied to that much that nobody knows what is true or not.

I don’t care weather it’s Auba or any other person player or not I wish anyone with heart problems all the best and hopefully a full recovery. And let’s not forget there family are almost going through the same thing and need to know we we wish well.

  15. allezkev says:

Well well, well, come on home Thomas Partey, put all that ACoN disappointment behind you and lead the Gunners to 4th place a CL spot and hopefully a Wembley success.

The more I hear about Vlahovic and his agent the less inclined I am to want to see them anywhere near the Emirates, that is of course based on all the second and third hand rumours we keep on getting…

Fiorentina will want to sell this month because by the summer his value will have fallen dramatically with only a year left and Arsenal can pay him more than Juventus but if he wants to stay in Italy then I guess it Arrivedirci Dusan…

  16. allezkev says:

Mikel Arteta wants reinforcements in midfield due to the club’s Covid problems and Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey being on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Now Get French Football have claimed Juventus have opened talks over bringing in a replacement for Arthur.

They report that the Serie A club are in negotiations with Ligue 1 side Lyon over the possibility of signing Bruno Guimaraes.

Arteta is a big fan of the 25-year-old, and has been keeping tabs on him over the last few seasons.

SunSport understands Juventus are happy for the Brazilian to leave, but want to sign a replacement first.

He is ready to fly in next week and sign until the summer if the move is given the go ahead.

  17. ScottfromOz says:

    That’s it Geoff.
Priority 1 is getting through this ordeal.
Kev, Vlahovic’s agent seems the real fly in the ointment.
    Typical, though.
More interested in what they get rather than their players interests.

  18. ScottfromOz says:

Kev, seems Vlahovic’s agent is a real character 🙂
He wants it all and his players interests seem secondary but that’s nothing new.
    Geoff, spot on.
Regardless of all else, surviving this situation is priority no. 1.
Then, hopefully we can all move on with life again.

  19. allezkev says:

Fiorentina have signed two forwards during this window, Jonathon Ikone from Lille for £13m and Krzysztof Piatek from Hertha Berlin on loan.

Paving the way for the departure of Vlahovic?

  20. allezkev says:

Scott I did hear on the Le Grove podcast that the agent of Vlahovic wanted £8m from Fiorentina to get him to re-sign with the Florentine club, but that all sounds a bit excessive a bit OTT, maybe it was only €8m…

  21. ScottfromOz says:

Kev, even $8 million Aussie is a rort hahaha
    Agents=scum in my books.
I do think we are a huge chance of getting him, just the parties all milking the situation for what it’s worth is holding things up.
