Will this be the season the shadow fades?

Morning all.

Thankfully this season is nearly over with just ten matches to play, eleven should we get past Man City to the FA Cup Final. The biggest questions for us is will we finish in the top four, will Tottenham finally finish above us in the league and then who will stay and go in the summer as we prepare to start all over again.

From the outside, all this managerial stuff is a game to Wenger and the board. The board know many fans want change, Wenger knows we want change so the most logical thing for the club and Wenger to do is to allow such change. Arsene shouldn’t think this is simply a case of getting one over us fans, because totally the opposite as by staying he’d be ruining the club he is supposed to love further and he’ll push those fans who are already sick of him, even further away. The protests might be seen to be minor right now because the numbers attending are low but if he stays for two more years, he’ll probably watch those numbers grow rapidly.

If he stays, what’s he going to do in the transfer window? He certainly isn’t going to spend big on a ready made world class player like Griezmann is he, as if he’s haggling over Alexis Sanchez supposed financial demands, then he’s not going to match the kind of wages Utd would often the little French wizard let alone his signing on fee. But he’s the kind of player this club needs if it’s to improve vastly and dare I say we still clearly need a beast both in defence and midfield because right now, Xhaka really isn’t cutting it in this league. Saying that, I’m sure a top notch defensive coach would soon whip him into shape.

Then what about selling players? He’ll need to be ruthless and cull a few. Not literally of course, but we have a few average players who I’m sure West Brom or Crystal Palace etc could do with. But again, I can’t see him doing that either as I’m talking about the bloke who still has Yaya Sanogo in his squad!

Then there’s the question hanging over his backroom staff, those who must be nearer to drawing their state pension than coming up with a few new ideas on how to progress further in Europe or beat Southampton and Bournemouth away from home in the middle of winter or perhaps to win the opening game of the season in front of our own fans.

And finally, what about having a fully prepared squad to start the season? You know, signings done early, all have a full pre-season together and then be ready to hit the ground running on the opening day of the new campaign…

Nah, it’s unlikely isn’t it… And let’s not forget, signing players will be tricky when there’s a FIFA Confederations Cup taking place from the 17 June to 2 July 2017……….

Afternoon Rico, the quietness on here is synonymous with the lack of interest many Arsenal fans have in their club…

The feeling that behind the scenes, the club is just waiting for the right time to announce Wengers new 2 year contract is palpable.

The fans in general are just bored with the lack of ambition and complete lack of vision of our Owner, CEO and Board.
They don’t have any real fresh ideas other than Arsene and profit for the cowboy.

Allegri is gonna slip through the clubs clumsy fingers just as Guardiola did…

Any bollocks they come out with about Arsene overseeing the transformation as him as the Czar of Arsenal into a more modern set up with a director of football etc is just rubbish. All that should have been put in place after he signed his last deal in 2014…

As usual the inertia of those at the top of the club have seen us drift for the last 3 years until we’ve reached this point…

Kroenke, Gazides and the Board are truely useless…

Current squad we havew 3 potential players there. Sanchez , Ozil and Mustafi , possibly by the time the season starts only 1. It buying that will be a problem but a look at the countries involved there are not too many that have the sort of stars we need. Many are there to make up the numbers . Of the 8 teams only Germany and Chile are hunting grounds for Wenger’s team and I dare say Scott has more information on Australian and New Zealand players than Dick Law and his merry men. Mexico ( Vela ) , Cameroon ( Frimpong ,)Russia ( Arshavin ) and Portugal ( well Ronaldo is on the list of near misses ). . It is a money spinning non entity of a competition designed to test the water for the coming world cup . Nothing more.

The fact of the matter is that Wenger CANT LET GO. He knows his time is up but Arsenal has been and still is, his life’s work. Will the senile old board find him a caretakers job to do so he can carry on his connections with the club. By caretaker I mean a man with a sweeping brush and sawdust, (to mop up thr sick!)
Allegri will not be arriving. Wenger will make sure that who ever follows him him will fail because they are not savvy enough to do otherwise, McLaren might be possible, he’s certainly crap enough and probably cheap enough! Last year if Wenger had gone, which he should have they could have employed Koeman or Guardiola, neither available now. Another missed opportunity. And all for what, one old man’s selfish ego trip at the expense of progress and potential success in the silverware department. For sure the days of Wenger producing a team that wins anything are long, long gone. As indeed he should be!

    Happy days.

It doesn’t matter whether the summer has tournaments or not. Ambitious clubs still conduct their business. At Arsenal we’ll still be chasing a player all summer with the obvious Benzema link.

If we are to get a new manager it should be prep’d now so he can have time to assess the team and prepare for transfers – the proper way.

  5. rico says:

Ozil and Sanchez could be long gone before that summer tournament kicks off….

Wavy. I’d laugh but the sad thing is, you’re probably not far off when it comes to his replacement…

  6. Le Coq Monster says:

    Afternoon and thanks Rico.

Surprised non of you wathced the U23`s last night…..or did you ?……………….very entertaining game, the result matters not one iota as it`s about development.
Honestly appraisal ?………………………………I didn`t like Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars and even less playing up front for the U23`s and taking a development chance away from a talented youngster, he might be a utterly nice chap, but he`s complete garbage as a footballer !………..he make`s Jeff Blockley look like Franz Beckenbauer !

  7. Le Coq Monster says:

Sorry Rico, that would be heaven, but no………………….. the coach Boro Primorac !
    🙂

  8. Le Coq Monster says:

The connection is Primart has been Wengers right hand man for 20 years !………….does it mean Wenger is off as well ?……………….and I mean before 2 years ! 🙂

  9. Kk says:

Even champions league rookies liecester done what the almighty arsenal couldn’t do for 7 years. .
Mental strength and cohesion at its best!!

  10. Le Coq Monster says:

It possibly helps if you can avoid Bayern and Barca continuously………………………………….and maybe get a team like say……….. Sevilla ………………………anyway, best case scenario……………….we win FA Cup !……………..Chav, Spud, Mansour City, Bindipper top 4…..Manshafter Std win Europa League and get CL………………and Arsenal have no CL fatigue next season and do a Leicester/Chavski and win EPL with new manager on board !…………..will be our best chance in years !.

  11. micko says:

Le Coq, if you wanna win the competition you have to meet them at some stage.
But fair point the last time we met Barca in a Q/F we got spanked, the season before that we made the S/F against the manc’s and you guessed it we got spanked, now we just get spanked every year in the last 16 !!!

Sevilla, a team that have won the Europa Cup the last 3 seasons on the bounce, do you honestly think we wouldn’t have got spanked.

And there you have it, how many “spanked” in that !
Keep up the good work Arsene and sign da contract.

  12. Jonathan says:

Micko, spot on, I think a 10-2 spanking in a last 16 tie is more than enough humiliation to take, without having to face it in a semi or Quarter final.
Eventually they,ll catch up with us…..

  13. Marshall says:

    Morning all.
We got Monaco a while ago and still we couldn’t go through. Sevilla are superior to Leicester on matters football yet that didn’t stop Leicester having a go at them. Shows ours is a team that are mentally defeated even before kicking a ball. Am sorry I poked a question on our top notch mental strength lol.

  14. Marshall says:

On money issue, we are the fourth spending club so Wenger is allowed to finish fourth.

But the fans pay the highest quid per game. Shouldn’t they be allowed to ask the most of the club? Well since am paying the priciest ticket on land, it should be worth it. Where am standing fourth and RO16 are not worth what the fans pay. Yet when we ask for the best we are mourners, what do I know though.

  15. Lee says:

    Has Dick Law left too???
I hope this means that Wenger is going too and him not hiring new staff…..

  16. Le Coq Monster says:

It`s all about the money money……………..4th highest wage payers and 4th to 2nd placings is about our level, although The Spuds could de a Leicester and come 2nd this year !. 🙂

Look at our last two Olympics !……………..record haul of medals and what was behind it ?…………………….money !..money for better facilities, coaching, Training, sports science, psychologists, massage parlours, pole dancing clubs etc etc…………………..not just football where money makes you the best….cash is king and Kroenke is a Cnut !

Off for free eye test !………………..if eyes are better when I come back I might discover that I`ve been supporting the wrong team and find out I`m German or Spanish and support BM and RM……………………….trophies galore and nearly every season !……………….I know !, why dont we all support them and have Arsenal as our little team !. hahaha

  17. Le Coq Monster says:

Actually !……..fcuk that !……………………what would we moan about ? ………………………….well, unless Arsene became manager of one of them…..fcuking typical that would be !

  18. ScottfromOz says:

Funny how Leicester fought on one front last season, and one this season yet make Arsenal look bad?
A sacked manager, no Barca or Bayern to worry about but let’s ignore those facts.
Of course, 12 months of glory is much better than 20 plus years of success and stability.
Kev mentioned the other night that groups and blogs are quiet because fans don’t care enough to bother.
    I respectfully disagree, Kev.
Plenty of fans are sick to death of being ripped apart simply for having an opinion deemed unpopular, so why would they continue to debate when nothing they say is “right”?
I’ve seen it on here, and we only need remember some of those who dared defend Wenger over the years-where are they all???
Some of the very best contributors who always backed their comments with logic and intelligent reasoning-unlike myself, and I admit that-whether they were right or not is a different topic, but the fact remains, they don’t bother any more.
Disagree and rip into me but luckily, I’m a stubborn one so I can take it, but I’ll guarantee this-some of you know I’m right, even if you won’t admit it on here.
This has absolutely nothing to do with Wenger, but ill make it easy and blame him anyway.

  19. Marshall says:

With Primorac leaving, Jonker and Freddie already left surely there must be a place for Keown and/or TA for the coaching role.

Now am waiting for the big news 🙂 . I can be hopeful.

  20. rico says:

Perhaps those who backed Wenger have realised they are flogging a dead horse. Maybe they too now realise that the end is near and much needed..

    You and me both Marshall….

  21. ScottfromOz says:

Rico, I wouldn’t get excited yet-Wenger may be removing them to appear to be taking on board what fans have said for years-changes and fresh ideas are required- but stay, himself.

  22. ScottfromOz says:

Rico, I stand by what I said as you’re argument would mean these people were unable to admit to being wrong, and I doubt that’s the case but so be it.
Flogging the dead horse is making a valid argument and having it laughed at or torn apart by the majority because they just can’t be wrong, can they lol

  23. rico says:

Scott, if he and the club decide he’s staying, I’d much rather it be with a different coaching team and fresh faces in other areas off the pitch…

As long as he listens to them…

  24. ScottfromOz says:

Nobody is ripping shreds of Sevilla-more fun using the result as more anti Wenger rubbish.
    How refreshing 🙂
No more on it from me, I promise!!!

  25. rico says:

People don’t get torn apart on here for having a different view Scott. Often it’s not what’s said it’s how it’s said and that makes all the difference..

  26. ScottfromOz says:

Rico, I agree wholeheartedly that it’d be better with changes around him, but contrary to everything I’ve posted just now, I’d still prefer to see him go.
Just watching some arsehole pundit on ESPN stating part of the reason we got rid of Nasri is his lack of character such as the display he put on against Vardy.
This same “expert” has used Nasri, amongst plenty of others, naturally, when criticising Wenger and the players we’ve lost!!!!
    Gotta laugh lol

  27. Marshall says:

The next manager won’t have alot of cleaning up to do. The staff is doing it for him! Bouldy’s next -and no I don’t have any sources.

    Am jumping the gun here.

  28. potter says:

Sevilla won the Thursday night cup three times on the trot and then lost Unai Emery their manager to PSG.. Sold their centre forward Carlos Bacca to Milan and Aleix Vidal to Barcelona and has been proven if you sell your best players your performance drops.

  29. Alex says:

    Morning Rico

There is no logic for Le prof to stay by all account.

Having the only one technical player and at the wrong age and not having replacement for Santi is beyond belief.Le prof he spanked nearly 100M and look what happen.

If he announces his resignation early i am confident any decent manager can salvage something even from the remaining games. But will not happen.

Le prof is stall on Tiki Taka playing but with likes of Coq ? Ramsey ? Xaka ? Elneni …..is just fancyfull thinking.
This players are not very phisical nor very technical …just rag tag mixes .Probably the new manager with the addition of some and getting rid half of these craps could do something and i believe so.

Something is telling me David Moyes would do some good with this lot.Anyway an energetic and passionate one will be my choice which Moyes is not

I love Conte passion …oh boy….he kept quite that Moaninho for good an i love it.

  30. Mabo says:

Scott loves Wenger. You make as if we belittle Wenger for no reason. You always tend to go to the past to defend the man. I think we all know his past and it is his present that is worrying us. So to say we must not commend Leicester is unthinkable because soccer is mostly about present as right now the cups we won can do little to console us. But if we win the EPL now ow boi
