Will revenge be sweet, or is another drubbing on the cards?

Morning all.

So, just a week after we suffered a horrid loss at Anfield, the chance to get some kind of revenge is on offer today. Of course we won’t get the three league points back but we could make sure we are in the draw for the next round of the best domestic cup on offer….

I’d love us to win this cup and maybe more so than the Champions League as we’re an English club and this is an English competition.

Somehow though, I don’t think our manager shares the same view as me and I think it’s likely that we’ll see changes…..

The first game can, of course, have an influence on the second one [when they are so close together]. But we are hugely focused on giving a strong response to show that it was an accident. I’m confident we will be hugely concentrated and go into this game with power.

Power says Arsene, not sure where that is coming from….

Back to the changes, would it be such a bad thing?

We’ve gone a bit stale of late and a few fresh faces might just be exactly what this side needs.

Flamini is back which is welcome news but after that, I couldn’t even take a guess who Arsene Wenger will field but I doubt he’ll make any changes to our central pairing, especially as Thomas Vermaelen still sits alongside Abou Diaby on the injured list.

Up front I think we could see change, Yaya Sanogo, Lukas Podolski and Nicklas Bendtner are all fit and healthy and my guess is that one or more of those three will start.

Whoever get’s selected, the most important thing is that they are all ready.

Ready to wear the red and white shirt. The one that holds Arsenal crest and represents the club we all love and support regardless of all the rubbish stuff we get dealt from the owner, board and manager. Arsenal FC is bigger than all of them and it’s better than all of them because our club will still be standing tall long after they leave…

No points, but a place in the next round of a great traditional cup is on offer…

Arsene Wenger:

These guys are winners. When they lose in that way believe me they are hurt.

When you can put things right, you want an opportunity to do that and we have an opportunity.

COYRRG’s, go show you are winners and go take the opportunity on offer………..

Hope it’s a great day all…..

Lets hope that our team do what citeh did yesterday and reverse the result of a couple of weeks ago.
Just to further the theme, if Moreenhohoho’s team didn’t fail yesterday I suppose the only conclusion that can be drawn is that he FAILED! Therefore he must be a failure and after only 8 months! The sack to follow ……soon then?
    Nasty little jerk.
Can’t see us winning 4-0 but I can see us winning.

    COYRRGs

  2. The BearMan says:

First first wish is that Arsenal turn up like the sun this morning and the lads remember how to play football.

For toooooooooo long Arsene’s Arsenal has been firing hot and cold.

  3. rico says:

    Morning again all…

I want to see a lot more passion and determination than we saw at Anfield…. Mind you, that won’t be difficult…

  4. TizTeezy says:

I do not expect a drubbing by the Gunners on L’fool. The lads will get an early 2nd half goal and then sit back to defend-ehmmm, we are good at that these days. Hence preserving energy for Wednesday…morning house

  5. Lewis says:

    Morning all,

He talks a good game doesn’t he?! Time to prove this team are winners though, instead of just also rans.

Missing the game today as have a flight to catch, Gutted to say the least.

  6. snaparse says:

morning Rico, just hope d boys do turn up…….I think we are going to win……will like to see a pretty strong team as I am not too arsed abt d cl

  7. ArsenalDK says:

Just a victory for me. But can we do it? I would love it if we could pick up from where we left off in 2005, by lifting the FA cup

  8. rico says:

I guess that’s some compensation Lewis..

1-0 with an own goal would do me Adk, just want to win this one…

Anyone know when Ramsey is due back?

  9. rico says:

    Morning Adam.

It is here, calm, sunny and a little bit chilli.

Hopefully it will stay this way and some of the folk who have suffered so much damage can start to rebuild…

  10. gunnerpete says:

What I would love is two early “offside goals” like the Pool got last week and then to sit back and let them sweat. A hatrick from Lionel Messi Bentner would be nice. All joking apart, I would play Gnabry on the right from the start and bring on Rosicky later. Please do not play Monreal!

  11. tsgh says:

Did you upgrade the wheels of the Robin to 22 inches…? lol

…and the 19 inch LCD display on the back of the drivers head-rest?

  12. tsgh says:

Snap, all the strikers apart from Costa & Keisleing have been bought.

BVB have already made a deal for Adrian Ramos of H09.

Fans want top fast strikers but in my view we have a very limited pool of top strikers to choose from…

Maybe Benteke if he is considered an upgrade on OG12…

  13. tsgh says:

Pelle and Finnbogasson(spelling) of Eredivisie maybe…

AW doesn’t normally buy big from that league though considering similarities in philosophies..

  14. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all,
There comes a time when we have to forget the wranglings inside the club. All this, if he had brought and who is really responsible has really got be left behind. We have who we have and we are a professional outfit, and i believe the team and Wenger have pride. Our last game against Liverpool caught us cold, and they overpowered us and we struggled to make a game of it. United’s game showed that we were prepared better, not a great game as you all know but a draw was better than the last game we had with them, and i hope todays game will be the same. The Players have no say in what goes on off the field, they can only influence what goes on on the pitch, and they know they need to do better. Lets get behind the team and show them we support them, we have a good team, and were at home i expect a good result. COYRRG’s.

  15. rico says:

United’s game was drab Sp, no dynamics in the side at all. We need to play a lot better today if we are to win this game…

Liverpool are a much much better side than Man Utd right now…

  16. Adam says:

TS. I have the wide alloys and our names emblazoned across the windscreen. Rico. I shall ignore your sidecar jibe. You know my chariot. I am tired this morning as we spent the evening ‘Twerking. Just like Miley and Robin Thicke. 🙂

  17. snaparse says:

ts we don’t really need a fast striker….we can have pace out wide….dats y I think we should buy drax and madzukic…,…….we should have pace with drax and Walcott plus ozil too in the side

  18. lule yusuf says:

morning the lady and all in the house. Adam, your robin must have been very reliant over the years for you to keep it… if the midfield trio turns up today then we’re assured of a win. how I wish we could put five past mignolet though.

  19. lule yusuf says:

sure Rico, given that we got pep visiting soon, any kind of a win would be welcome. am so looking forward to the team selection today.

  20. rico says:

    Absolutely Lule.

Rather annoyingly, I am not going to see the game as I have to go out but hope I return to good news, very good news….

  21. ozgunner says:

will be tuned in via the iphone scores again tonight as am working – we need a step up in form that is for sure

  22. tsgh says:

Make sure it is the my moniker not my government name emblazoned across the back… lol

Rico, so you are definitely choosing the chickens over Suarez and co. visiting…?

  23. tsgh says:

Sanogo & Podolski will start for Arsenal against Liverpool today. ‘Injured’ Vermaelen not in squad… it sound like the transfer request was really true…

  24. tsgh says:

    Hi Adk,
Damn,Giroud has admitted & apologised on twitter for cheating on his wife…

Does that mean he is not in the squad today?

  30. tsgh says:

    MA08 and MF20 partnership again.. JM won’t be happy…

Anyway I said and believed this partnership wont work even before MF20 had made his appearance for us against the sperds… I honestly want to be proven wrong today and midweek…

  31. DutchGooner10 says:

    Ginge

Certainly drains blood from your grey matter. Al that anger goes bloating your muscles. Tense expectations are an understatement.

Hope to have red knuckles at the end of the day from cheering, not from dragging them along.

  32. tsgh says:

Lehmann on BT: “The game against Bayern Munich is more precious. The Champions League is trophy missing for Wenger

  33. agirlagunner says:

    Boooo!!

This Giroud thing has brought me out of hibernation. I hate to be uncharitable, but his bird is positively tweeting cheap-cheap-cheap. Eeeek to the nth. 😉

    Oh, and GOAL!!!

  34. stevepalmer1 says:

Another drab Game i suppose Rico. But of course its just the result that counts. Well done you Gunners very professional. Who’s next. 🙂

  35. rico says:

I don’t know Sp, I didn’t get to see it, just turned on now..

Doesn’t sound like it was drab though, unlike the game in midweek…

  36. Joaquim Moreira says:

    ufff! We won!
Two penalties not marked – one for us and another one for them..
However, we were very lack in the center. Ours central backs are not fast.
It will be a disaster without Flamini on the pitch

  37. rico says:

Cripes, how did Liverpool now get a 2nd penalty, just seen the incident…

Still, what comes around, goes around eh….

  38. tsgh says:

Hiya Agag.. I suspected OG12’s news will indeed bring you out from hiding? lol

Good win… for the boys now lets span Fc Munchen…

  39. arsenal11730 says:

Sanogo had a quality debut. He was always in the mix and will get better timing with more minutes. Decent start. Good professional win. Shout out to Fabianski MOM.

  40. Woody says:

Gerard should definitely have seen red because the ref booked poldi for an identical challenge.

Given that we pretty much had a second team out I think it’s hats of to the boys today

  41. rico says:

    Thanks guys…

Chuffed for Sanogo, I suggested a few days ago he might be our surprise package for the remainder of the season 😉 😉

Spot on Woody, second string got a great result…

I need to eat, haven’t done so since breakfast and I’s hungry.

    Back shortly….

  42. tsgh says:

Yaya was excellent Lady Rico.. your match report is on it’s way sprinkled with all the typos to keep you awake,..

  43. Adam says:

Hiya Rico. Just got home. I told you we would win. Got a bit lucky with another pen but Gerard shouldn’t have been on the pitch to take it.

  44. AndrewH says:

Definate penalty, Gerald definitely 2nd yellow. But who cares now, we are through!! Thanks to Fabianski and some Sturidge misses. Ozil more involved, great pass before goal, great Ox performance.
Outplayed though which is worrying, but we took our chances.

  45. rico says:

Hi Adam, saw the second tackle by Gerrard, a dead cert booking so yes, he should have been off…

After that, I’m sure we would have spanked them…

Didn’t we have a penalty turned down too?

  46. rico says:

Watching the replay, I was surprised the penalty wasn’t given but makes the victory even sweeter for me Ah 😉

Seems Webb bottled two big decisions, one went our way, the other theirs. That’s life….

    I really don’t like Liverpool…

  47. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning all.
I woke up at 2.50 am, then again at 6am……totally missed the game.
I can only offer exhaustion as an excuse through a lack of sleep for the last week, so be kind 🙂
Seems I missed some kind of performance, and at the end of the day, I’d give up watching if it meant we can shut the Scousers up any day of the week.
    Sensational result.

  48. tsgh says:

Wenger: “I have to watch it again. You know I rate Suarez as a player but if we had him in the team, we would have a few more free-kicks.”

  49. Joaquim Moreira says:

Which penaty you were talking about?
Over suarez? Probably yes, but the clear was over Cazorla a few minutes later

  50. Adam says:

That is true. I have never seen a team ‘ milk’ free-kicks like Liverpool. Barely a minute passes when they are not trying to get yet another cheap free-kick by exagerating contact. The number of penalties they apparently should have had exceed the number they have had by a factor of 3 to 1.

  51. rico says:

    I’m off guys, have a good night….

    2-1 to the Arsenal…. 🙂

Always feels great when we beat the Dippers…..

    Night all…

  52. BrainwashedKev says:

Well, that was good old-fashioned FACup tie, what a fantastic atmosphere, great end to end action, with two fully commited teams…

I don’t know about Liverpool’s ‘2nd’ penalty as it was at the other end, but Webb bottled giving Gerrard a red card.

Yep, the stadium was really rocking, so glad that I went.
Last time I heard the place like that was the ‘almost’ come-back against AC Milan…

  53. BrainwashedKev says:

Fabianski made some really top top class saves, really wish that he was staying…
He’s developing into quite a top keeper.

Jenkinson was superb, his athleticism was crucial in steming the threat of Sterling… Great getting forward as usual.

Monreal got an early booking and was peerless afterwards.
Probably the best game i’ve seen from him.

BFG and Kozzer were like two Spartan warriors defying a horde of Persians in Liverpool shirts.

They had to be totally concentrated for the entire game as Liverpool’s forwards are like snakes.
    I luv our centre-backs.
Anything is possible this season with our Franco-Prussian axis at the heart of our team….

  54. BrainwashedKev says:

So, Arteta and Flamini cannot play as a pair can they…?!

Well they played today, Flamini also got a booking but covered ever blade of grass cajoaling his teammates and harrying the enemy from Scouseland… A brilliant and detirmined performance. How anyone can criticise MF is a total mystery to me?

Arteta finished is he? Bullshit… He was suberb, reading the game and making surgical interceptions whenever the enemy threatened… Payback for Anfield methinks…

Ozil was back to his best, gliding around the field, keepjng things ticking over, linking play and constantly probing for weaknesses in the Liverpool defence. A supreme footballer.

  55. Gonerjoe says:

As usual media are latching on to the fact that liverpool should have had 2nd penalty. But no mention of the one we should of had when skrtel tackle on Santi nearly taken off his foot. Never mind the fact Gerard should of had 3 red cards.

  56. BrainwashedKev says:

Podolski worked and worked and then worked some more.

    Why was he substituted?
    I just don’t know.
    Someone please explain???

He was totally commited to the cause, getting in challenges, helping Monreal and scoring the key 2nd goal.

He looked pissed off when he was taken off, but the fans love him and he loves the fans.
Threw his top into the crowd at the end (as did MF) as we all gave him a standing ovation…

He has to stay at Arsenal…

  57. BrainwashedKev says:

Oxlade-Chamberlain was a constant danger to the Scousers, preventing them from pushing up and squeezing the midfield.
He was top top class, scored a great opportunist goal and put in a fantastic team performance…
He dovetailed excellently with Jenkinson, they have a great understanding.

    Finally Sanogo…

What a bloody pest he is, big, awkward, physical, quite a few rough edges, still needs a lot of work, but he gave Skrtle and Agger a torrid afternoon…

Made the first goal, always likely to do something clumsy but there’s something about Yaya.

Not easy on the eye, but I like him…

I like his workrate, his battling qualities, a team player and ‘something different’… Dare I say a Plan B…

  58. BrainwashedKev says:

Everton in the next round won’t be no pushovers.
You can be sure that Martinez will be working on some way to tie us up in a web of tatical trickery…

Hope that Ramsey is back by then…

  59. Joaquim Moreira says:

Pod was tired. Gibbs close more the left side.
Ox also. Cazorla was not completely fit but we need another “special” player for keep the ball and put the team playing arround him. Ozil was completely tired and not defend. Cazorla did it.
Moreover, Pod had a yellow card which could be shown in the 1st half.

  60. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Fixtures:
    ….
    08/03 – Swansea (H)
    11/03 – B Munich (A)
    7/8/9/10/ 03 Everton? When? 8 and 10 impossible… 7 no… 9???

  61. BrainwashedKev says:

That’s right Rick, he’s different to what we usually have up front.
He’s built like a brick outhouse, but as you say c/h will hate facing him.
He’s perfect for EPL games against agricultural opponants.

I’d like to see him smashing up John Terry and co, that’s a very enjoyable image… 😛

  62. potter says:

Place was rocking once the opening minutes were gone the atmosphere started to pick up.The way we played with Sanogo and Podolski and the Ox moving forward gave them a different range of problems for once Wenger adapted. Agger was all over Sanogo but never once did the kid back down , if he stays fit he will be an absolute handfull for centre backs and they will all know that they have been in a game. Impressive for his first real match.
There will probably be a flood warning around the Mersey tonight as the tears of the bleating scousers flow down Lime street.
    Tough !

  63. Scott from Oz says:

    Lol Potter.
Great to see the boys out on a show and Wenger seems to have got things right.
Tell ya what, Pods finish on his right foot was superb, and again raises the question on why he isn’t played more.

  64. potter says:

Good question , and why is he always substituted , and why do we always pull up the drawbridge when we have 2 goals instead of going for more. Pod scores and The ox scores both looking dangerous and both get dragged off.
    Weird.

  65. Nashuagunner says:

Podi was already on a yellow and he was the one that caused the penalty. The Ox was already tired and also almost cause another penalty. Both have to be replaced.

  66. ozgunner says:

got to be happy with the scoreline – Webb has taken a lot of abuse on here but came through last night haha Not sure how he missed that – Keeper also kept us in the cup and was very impressive – appeared Ozil stepped up last night as well – need to improve a bit one feels as they are no BM but a win’s a win.

  67. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. In some ways it was a game of refereeing decisions. At the last count Gerrard should have had 3 yellow cards but I imagine his ‘stature’ in the game as a complete tosser who plays for England got him the pass he probably gets week in, week out, from the refs. Sanogo was battered from pillar to post by either Aggar, Skrtl or often both without getting anything from Webb. He was pushed , punched, and dragged about at every header and the ironical cheers from the crowd when Webb finally did award a foul towards the end was well merited. Having seen it again on TV I thought the first penalty was soft but they should have had a second for sure.
As I mentioned last night, Liverpool are masters at milking fouls and getting free balls into the area as they simply exaggerate everything. When the crowd chanted at Suarez, “You should have signed for a big club” it was rather amusing.

  68. ozgunner says:

Morning Adam – wonder what will happen now given the Giroud admissions. We’re hardly in a position to punish him with playing time removal are we? Good reports on the youngster, wonder if he’s injured this morning? 🙂 Second goal was very nice work

  69. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning all.
I am already sick of hearing whinging Scousers.
Seriously, how many points has Suarez gained with his dives, and now, when it bites them on he arse, they complain?
    Bunch of wankers.

  70. ozgunner says:

Scott – we’d be screaming our heads off as well – its a stonewall penalty mate, come on. It’s football. Some are saying flapper should be man of match, if true, tells it’s own story. Who’d have thought Webb would be assisting Arsenal hey? Never know do you 🙂

  71. Adam says:

Hi Oz. Yes, Giroud’s craziness might go some way to explaining his awful performances lately and that could of course have a direct bearing on our season. Mind you, I can’t criticise him too much as my third wife caught me cavorting with 4 women in a sickening orgy of debauchery. Hence the inevitable arrival of my Thai bride 4th wife. Pot and kettle. 🙂

  72. bradster says:

    Hi all,

I can’t stand how the linesman gets the offside from a free kick wrong with that lot too.

Gerrard could be a cheer leader the amount of times I saw him with his arms up shouting foul for the ref.

  73. ozgunner says:

I would be saying that, yes. it doesn’t change what the masses would be declaring however, you included. Refs do us over again, cheated, etc etc

  74. ozgunner says:

quote “got to be happy with the scoreline” Not credit Scott? You use this line often and each time it misses mate

  75. Scott from Oz says:

That is hardly a compliment….more an admission.
You always seem happier when we lose……”told ya so” 🙂

  76. Adam says:

What I do find irritating is that this morning it is all about the penalty that wasn’t given. How many times have we been on the wrong side of terrible officiating? I might cite Man City away as an example of about 4 clangers and that’s just one game. Two shockers in the 0-0 against Chelsea that cost us more points. The list goes on.
    And on…

  77. rico says:

Just been reading around the newspaper reports Adam, they all say the same. Nothing about Gerrard’s behaviour, or Agger or the amount of time Sanogo was battered…

It’s all about Webb and the penalty….

    What goes around comes around….

When we consider the changes AW made, I think we did really well, especially Sanogo and Fabianski from what the highlights showed…

  78. tsgh says:

    Morning La Familia…

Listening to the match commentary made me wonder if pundits/commentators are told to hate on Arsenal in order to be given a contract…

Andy Gray was shocking with his comments about how we were lucky to win etc….

I thought he coined the phrase, ‘not playing well but winning like potential champions’? I guess it does not apply to AFC…

It was refreshing listening to Mad Jens …

  79. ozgunner says:

Adam – we would be focusing on the same decision had it been the other way is all i am saying. It’s natural for them to do that. It was a controversial incident, no question. We got the result this time, maybe next time the penalty will go the other way – it’s the result that counts and again, we have to be happy with the scoreline, its sends us through and that was the objective. I can honestly say i have never been happy after a loss to anyone and that is a fact Scott.

  80. ozgunner says:

We did Rico, kind of highlights my point, it’s forgotten, why? We won is why, had we not, they’d be plenty on here going on about a corrupt ref again 🙂

  81. ozgunner says:

Rico – ‘what comes around comes around’ – absolutely spot on. It does indeed – looking forward to the BM test, should be two quality games these

  82. Adam says:

Oz. I understand that and agree, but my point was really that the press etc were schtum about the bad decisions when we played City as they were all wetting themselves about how wonderful City were. Today Liverpool are cast as the rightful winners and we were just lucky.
The best Arsenal player yesterday for me was Kos. He was simply immense but I don’t ignore others like Fabianski, Ox etc..they were all good.
As an aside, I love the way that Wenger has made Mourinho look like such a plonker. Praying on the dickhead’s inability to keep his trap shut and his Pavlovian need to respond to anything and everything is really cute.

  83. potter says:

Don’t expect it ever to be different Adam, for those of us that were there we saw the off the ball bits missed on t.v. and we saw two very committed teams being officiated by a complete waste of space. He was poor both ways, he missed so much against Sanogo especially. Today all the talk is about poor Suarez and his decision, as usual the rest of his display is being overshadowed.

  84. Scott from Oz says:

I said you seem to be, Oz…..it gives you the chance to stick the knife in to Wenger, and you never miss a beat.
Anyway, we won, regardless of how or why, so move on to Everton, but first, Bayern…..i hope we go all out against them.

  85. Adam says:

Agreed Potter. I actually thought that Webb gave more for Liverpool than us and was quite poor throughout so I was surprised when I got home and realised that the way the game is being painted by the media, including a couple of ex-refs trying to scrape a few quid from the game, is that Liverpool wee somehow fitted up. If Gerrard had been sent of when he should have been in the first half, way before his tackle on Ox in the second half, he wouldn’t have been on the pitch to take the penalty.

  86. ozgunner says:

Agree with you on BM Scott – very technical game in the making and again the winner might win it all. Can’t argue with the commitment of the two teams potter, that is for sure.

  87. Adam says:

Oz. In general, possibly. What is true is that certain players take liberties throughout the game. Rooney, Gerrard etc. both of these are in the refs ear the whole time. Gerrard yesterday and Rooney in the week.

  88. Scott from Oz says:

Oz, i don’t believe we can win the CL, but if we do have a crack at Bayern at home, we can at least make this tie very interesting, and if we do proceed, who knows?

  89. Scott from Oz says:

I want to know why referees do not spell i out before kick off….approach me, touch me or try to intimidate me and you will be sent off.
    Players lack respect.

  90. bradster says:

I actually think we were lucky in the beginning with Sturridge miss firing. It would’ve been a very different game if either one went in.
We took our chances and missed ones we should’ve buried.
Credit to wenger for being brave and making changes and I’m hoping that he instructed Ox to play similar to Walcott and stop cutting inside.

  91. Adam says:

What was important yesterday is that the team seem to have some spirit and fire back.
Sanogo put himself about a bit and gave us the touch of muscularity that Giroud has obviously been putting into other things than football recently. 🙂
