Will Arsene Wenger really sign Bale? A hard earned point, well, a point!

Morning all.

Well that was all a bit weird wasn’t it. A strong Arsenal eleven up against what really was an average depleted Man Utd side. For the first hour, we were awful. We were second to the ball, being outfought and out thought all over the pitch and when we did get hold of the ball, we either passed it straight back to a player in red or simply lost it…

We looked totally lost and out of ideas with little/no fight in us…

They scored and whilst much focus was on Fellaini in the middle, Herrera was left free to fire home..

Things didn’t improve much after the break and when Mike Dean failed to award us a penalty when Smalling looked as if he wanted Girouds shirt off his back, a loss looked on the cards.

But we woke up eventually…

Should have buried it!
Should have buried it!

Wilshere and Walcott came on in place of Bellerin and Cazorla and finally, we started to look like we wanted something from the game and on 82 minutes a great ball from Ramsey out to Walcott on the right, a couple of touches by the winger followed by a shot/cross towards goal. A deflection off Blackett and we were 1-1.

That’s what you get when you take a chance. Why others don’t beggars belief….

Ollie nearly won the match at the end but the only netting he could find was the side one.

We got a point, one which leaves us needing one more to secure 3rd place and that’s all Arsenal FC really care about right now. No CL qualifier! So perhaps one could say that we got the job done and didn’t lose and for that well done.

But take away the result and looking only at our performance, we were poor. We couldn’t match Utd, especially in the first half, we couldn’t find a pass, we couldn’t win a tackle and the players just weren’t up for the battle.

We were never going to boss the game imo, not up there but when we got the ball, we were all out of ideas and couldn’t keep possession which is so unlike Arsenal. But so typical of us of late, players just refused to shoot with Mesut Ozil possibly being the most guilty and Walcott showed what can happen when they do. Ok, it took a hefty deflection but who cares?

I don’t think for one minute that Arsenal only need to turn up and expect to win every game, far from it but surely every fan expects an Arsenal team to actually turn up and put a shift in and yesterday that didn’t happen, certainly not for the first hour. Had they done so, we might have come away with all three points. There’s being pragmatic, disciplined and patient but that was not us yesterday, not at all.

Now it’s onto Wednesday and Sunderland and perhaps it’s time to see a few fresh legs in the starting eleven as the ones we saw yesterday looked tired.

One point will be enough but we need all three and then on Sunday, when Southampton beat Man City, we are in a position to take second place.

In the gossip pages there’s a headline suggesting Arsenal will join the battle to sign Gareth Bale. Would you want him at Arsenal?

That’s it for today, have a good Monday guys..

Nice post Rico…. id have to say no to the bale transfer, imo Arsenal are not at that level yet. .. 80m etc. .. cech, schnerdlin, Reus for 70m…

As for the result yesterday I’m happy with the draw, definitely think the Ox and Danny were missed in that game there energy and work rate imo would have caused them real problems.

Also I’m not liking Ramsey on the right, were losing a lot from him being played there.

Come Wednesday, Debuchy, Gabriel, Gibbs, Rosicky, wilshere, flamini, Walcott should all start, why have a squad if not to use it.

  2. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

    Good match report Rico.

Well well well. Theo popped up and was lucky enough that his cross hit Blackett and went in the net. Dont know why but Valdez’ positioning and his attempt at saving reminded me of Almunia.

Imo AW should ring some changes for the remaining two games. Gabriel should be given a game, Theo should begin, Jack should begin as well while Aaron and Santi should be rested. Rosicky should also begin the game, he could rest someone. We have a squad no??? so AW should use it.

Anyone knows if Debuchy is fit or not??

  3. rico says:

    Thanks Kel/Devil..

Ramsey on the right is a no no for me too.

Who was meant to be helping Bellerin yesterday as Ashley Young gave him such a hard time.

Ospina – I like him but the last two goals he’s conceded have been down to lacking a couple of inches imo. We really need a taller top class keeper…

  4. rico says:

I think Debuchy is fit Devil, maybe he’ll start on Wednesday..

Agree re changes too, not too many to upset the balance but I’d sure start Theo and Jack.

  5. kel says:

I think when all fit rico the Ox is best on the right then Danny as they both help out defensively.

I agree with ospina he hasn’t done much wrong to be fair to him but he does lack that little bit of height, I’ll not be to critical of that goal yesterday it was a free volley 10yrs out, but cech for 10m is a proper upgrade imo. Sell podolski and Campbell and that would basically cover that transfer fee. 🙂

  6. tsgh says:

Very good read Rico, your surmise is impressive…

Yesterday was my 2nd trip to Old bog in about 2 months and oddly we looked even more vulnerable defensively in some parts.
A few of our players looked mentally jaded imo…
Kel- I think you are right about a point being fair as I think stronger Yanited would have hammered us…

I still can’t believe we have so-called professional players who are playing a game a week but they look even more disinterested than ever…

  7. kel says:

Tsgh… if Rooney had have played imo he would have clipped are wings, and utd would have got the 2nd goal luckily he was injured.

Rotation is key Walcott and wilshere we’re dying to get on. … where as imo Santi and Sanchez were going through the motions…

  8. rico says:

    Kip, and more..

Ox for me Kel, really think we are missing him right now. He’s certainly not afraid to shoot or to run at the defence.. Seems he won’t appear again this season…

Just can’t see Jose allowing Cech to move, why not offer £25m to Utd for De Gea.. 😉

    Hi Scott.

    Thanks Ts.

  9. kel says:

Drake i thought we where terrible first half m8… 50 to 65mins we improved a bit 65 to full time we were the better team imo.

  10. Wavy says:

    Morning all.

I’d go for de Gea! I mean London is closer to Madrid, after all! He may like to move to us and dump his lady friend!
However, if we don’t buy a new keeper I won’t be too upset Ospina is pretty decent. A better one would improve us, for sure be at this stage it is not crucial.
As fora CDM and a more mobile and quicker CF then yes we could do with Benzema and Morgan S. They would be a step up! Like Wenger, I prefer to win games rather than, not to lose games. Score more goals than the opposition is always a way to go!

Miserable as sin here, it’s drizzled wet rain all morning. Grim!

  11. allezkev says:

I suppose, if we care to cast our minds back to the turn if the year, and that defeat at Southampton, in general there has been a marked improvement in the team.

Back in January, if someone had suggested to me, that Arsenal would finish 3rd, and still be in with a chance of finishing 2nd on the last day of the season, I would have seriously doubted their sanity…

So I think that we can, like all football fans, be a tad over-critical and focus too much on the negatives…

Frankly, it’s been a long long time since an Arsenal team had been unbeaten at Old Bog on successive visits. So to me, that constitutes progress…

Although, tbf, I was having a good old moan yesterday when we were losing…

    Rico, good post…

  12. kel says:

Kos, Santi, Ozil, Alexis, Ramsey should be rested on Wednesday I’d put them on the bench.

I’d be tempted to even give szcz a game as he’s gonna need a run out before the final.

  13. Drake says:

I have been doing some scourting for arsenal on goalkeepers, bernd leno and oblak are talented…i so wish szs to leave arsenal for us to get one

  14. potter says:

Benzema is in the Higuain class for me , maybe a few years ago but now we need a young fast forward to take the half chances that Giroud doesn’t. I don’t see the answer in English football , Lukaku or Benteke perhaps but certainly neither Theo or Danny W fit that bill. If we keep Giroud in for his aerial work we have to change style , not something I feel Wenger would want to do . Leopards don’t change them and I fear more of the near yet so far scenario playing out for a few years yet.

  15. scottfromoz says:

A win and two draws v Yanited this season….I’m sure we’d have all taken that.
Giroud still cops blame he shouldn’t.
He offers so much, yet cops even more when we lose, yet often misses out on the applause when we win.
    I’ll never understand it.
I have no issue with calls for another striker, but when people ask for one, why the need to criticise Giroud to make their point?
Why not just ask for another option?

  16. rico says:

    Potter. I’m nodding again….

Scott, I don’t think Giroud is taking the blame at all and I think all ‘most’ fans want to see is someone different to him signed. Quicker, more agile and certainly more clinical.

  17. kel says:

Utd beat us at the Emirates scott. I agree with you on Giroud fans single him out I have friends who have done it and I found myself defending him and saying excatly that … its not all girouds fault we just need a different option.

  18. kel says:

When things are not working for Giroud social media explodes with girouds crap etc he has no pace etc now tbh I’ve found myself saying that to ie no pace and moaning about him a bit… but then I look at the bench and Walcott is sitting there and I have to say well why wont wenger put someone with pace on?

  19. rico says:

Giroud hasn’t got pace on his side but that’s not his fault. If he’d have buried his chance in the final moments of the game yesterday, he’d have sure been the hero of the day.

But he didn’t….. But he wasn’t alone in having an off day, so many others were guilty too…

  20. Wavy says:

Neither do I Rico. I know when I’ve got a lump in my throat, but my tongue is a completely different kettle of fish! ( is that a mixed metaphor?)
Ospina is a good goalkeeper, imo, but De Gea is world class, Cech just sub world class, these days, better than Oooooooooospina, but not that much, again, imo!
We are not desperate for a new Gk but we could do with the outfield players, aDM and striker, both for cover and improvement!
I was being a bit wry, but not that much, earlier!

  21. kel says:

Giroud is a very good option upfront, but he shouldn’t be the No.1…. who we get for that I don’t know… but with 60 or 70m to spend we should find a few options.

  22. rico says:

Thanks Kev. You and me both re the moaning but when TW scored, I felt a bit better as we had picked up a bit by then.

Certainly a better result up there than in the past but then that has to be one of the worst Utd teams we have faced in a while….

  23. rogerbij says:

The secret to enjoying Sundays game was to start watching at half time! (I was at the airport). From that angle it wasnt bad, and like a few have said we couldve stolen all the points with more clinical striking.
Obviously we are not buying Bale – not just because of the transfer fee, but there is no way we will pay him even half of 300k/week wages. 1 more point and an FA cup will see me happy at the seasons end 🙂

  24. tsgh says:

    De Gea swap for Bale…

Said it last summer, lets see how it goes.

We might get Casillas’ if we are lucky. lol

TR07 is heading back home to BVB 09.. apparently

  25. kel says:

Lacazette or Cavani is probably the best options for Arsenal i think we could possibly get one of them unfortunately Suarez, Lewindonski, Aguero etc are not available.

  26. rico says:

De Gea swap with Bale Ts? De Gea has one year left on his contract apparently, so a bit of a price difference surely…

  27. rogerbij says:

Ha, agree Rico! And agree too Kel: Lacazette or Cavani are probably the most ‘buyable’ with Benzema and Lewandowski some way behind… I still wish we offered more than 40m and 1 for Suarez back then… I would bite your hand off for him. *pun attack.

We wont win much without another TOP TOP striker. Who was saying recently that every other top team has a better striker than us? I like Giroud and dont want him sold, but its true.

Another fun fact, Arsenal are statistically the 5th best team in Europe. A top striker would turn that into gold. http://www.whoscored.com/Statistics

  28. goonster says:

I see no one ll comment on how shit sanchez looked last night. Oh well am not surprised. He tracks back I guess that makes up for his ineptitude. Morning good people. Two weeks ago we would have taken that result. 1.1 is a fair reflection of the game. Both teams were shite. I ll bet viera and keano must be pissed watching that last night. No fight. No balls. No cruching tackle. Geez even skunk persie was seen hugging tr7! Wtf. What happened to this fixture? Oh well bring on sunderland. Come on arsenal 😀

  29. Geziah says:

    Good day all.

I agree that we lack pace up top but when you’re a big target man like Giroud you thrive on crosses into the box to head home. In all honesty with Sanchez on the left and Ramsey on the right, how many crosses will Giroud get to head home.

Maybe Giroud is a victim of the system we play and would score more at a club with two out and out wingers providing lots of crossses into the box.

    Just some food for thought.

  30. goonster says:

Geziah spot on my man. Throw theo in the fray and watch OG score for free. Ramsey don’t do it for me on the wings plus sanchez is not a team player. He ll rather try a 70 yards shot on goal than cross or try and beat every player on the pitch where a simple pass would have done more damage. Good player but shit team player.

  31. kel says:

Couldn’t agree more Roger… are 3 main domestic rivals have Rooney, Aguero, Costa, so yes they have better than us imo.

Lyon are playing in the Emirates cup maybe Lacazette could be lining up against his old club :p

  32. goonster says:

Let’s play to OG’s strength. Threading passes to him won’t cut it. Luca Toni was not known for his pace but he scored a fair share of goals. I don’t remember klose being fleet footed. Let’s play to his strengths before we write him off. If he had been at a different club some folks ll calling for him to be signed. Cut the guy some slack. He’s not world class but gets the job done. He costs half the price of pendaldo but scores more.

  33. rico says:

Goonie – as I said earlier, Giroud is not getting a bashing it’s just this Arsenal side need something different to him up front. If we are not going to pepper in crosses to the big fella then let’s get some speed through the middle and do something different.

  34. goonster says:

Rico it irks the fuck out of me when people bang on ozil not showing up in the big games well news flash sanchez hasn’t either. He’s always anonymous when we play away. What does he offer?? Squat zilch zero nada. If we are going to beat ozil everytime with a huge stick then we have to smash sanchez with a steel pole. Just saying lol

  35. goonster says:

Let’s whip in more crosses and show some urgency in the final third. I get dizzy Watching the endless tiki taka around the opponents 18 yard box. Ramsey for long spells looked like a grilled zombified turkey on but when he switched into the middle he looked like the reincarnation of xavi. Gee it’s not rocket science arsene.
    Sheesh

  36. rico says:

Guess on days like yesterday and Monday Goonie, so many had an off day that I just think it’s harsh to single out any one player. And when it comes to Alexis, I just realise that prior to Christmas, he pretty much single handedly kept us going…

  37. goonster says:

Hey WATH I guess you can see what a player like gundogan ll do for us. A tall prick ll win the ball and probably pass it immediately to the opposition. We need a technical ball winning midfielder. Lecoq is good for now but not for the long run. Yesterday he had a mare. Looked good in n patches but overall he lacked what distinguishes a world class player to a well mulumbu 😀

  38. Hell Raising Devil says:

The thing is that the trio of Sanchez, Ozil and Ramsey did not keep their shape behind Ollie. That is why Ollie suffered and that is why the rest of the team suffered and made Manure look world class. Those three kept their shape for only the first 10 minutes but then Aaron began drifting inside while Sanchez did the same. This meant no width and both Bellerin and NAcho were not protected. Infact for their goal NAcho was marking another player nearer to goal while Herrera crept in from behind. Sanchez wasa yard or two late when infact he should have picked up Herrera’s run. He got near herrera only when the shot flew in.

  39. goonster says:

Maam don’t get me wrong I was over the moon when he signed but lately he’s been pissing me off. He needs to learn to pads and move. He ll be a beast of a player if he does the simple things. Trying to beat his marker everytime he gets the ball makes him look selfish. He might never get to the ronaldo messi category but he’s not far off. Just release the ball earlier. Sheesh even titi knew when to pass and move and trust me theirry was a selfish turd 😀 sanchez a good player but a shit team player. End of.

  40. tsgh says:

Potter, Snap, Emma have all spoken about Alexandre for nearly 3 seasons, I doubt AW is truly interested.
Us buying from Lyon will be like AW dealing with Jorge Mendez imho…

  41. tsgh says:

Rico/Kel you are right on the difference in price between the aforementioned players. However, Madrid have only paid £45m of the reported £80m for Bale to the spuds… Neoliberalism at its finest. 🙂
If RM do not win anything this season £15m won’t be paid this summer…

When you factor in shirt sales etc and if Yanited pay £20m+ for Bale then Madrid would have made a very respectful profit from buying from their feeder club down shite hart lane….

  42. goonster says:

Wenger needs to sit him down and have him watch tapes of players like Pires Anelka and to an extent titi. Those guys thrived here because they knew when to pass and when to dribble plus sanchez isn’t even a good dribbler(is that a word lol). If theo has half the opportunities sanchez has in front of goal he would have hit 30 odd goals plus 15 to 20 assists this season. Gosh how I miss the OX.

  43. tsgh says:

Lol… goonie, very interesting to read how you have changed your views on AS17.

Not sure Aw is interested in Alexandre… AW or AFC does not deal with Jean Aulas the same way AFC won’t deal with Jorge Mendez.

Emma, Snap and recently Potter had mentioned Lacassette’s record; Grimandi apparently suggested him to us when we were after Demba Ba 2 seasons ago…

  44. goonster says:

Ts we both knew how he struggled in barfa. Good player like I said but a shit team player. It worked wonders for chile and udinese but we are neither. Plus we ve got the best number 10 in the world. Run sanchez run like the wind and trust me ozil ll find you. It’s so easy. I see ozil’s frustration at times and I don’t blame him. He could rekindle the ozil/ronaldo partnership with sanchez but the mug just won’t budge. It’s so infuriating.

  45. potter says:

I know what you are saying about Sanchez , I have said many times that we are too narrow and easy to defend against and that we need width. Unfortunately he is unlikely to join in with the pass two yards and get it back again that so many of our players indulge in. For him to move the ball quicker he needs movement in front of him. However he is one of the players that should be moving in front of Ozil rather than alongside him coming deep for the ball. His job is not to come deep and collect the ball but rather to time his runs to get into the box and receive there. He could do with watching a video of Wrighty in his pomp and see how those little runs got him through on goal so often. Whilst they are watching old films show Giroud some clips of Malcolm MacDonald and let him see how to use his strength to run through defenders and pile the ball in and burst the net.

  46. tsgh says:

Goonie- Pep tried and tried but AS17 never learnt…

I know a Chilean amongst the contigence in South London (Vauxhall, Brixton) who like AS17 but hate him playing for Chile as they think he does not make them as ‘fluent’ as they could be…

  47. tsgh says:

Potter… ”However he is one of the players that should be moving in front of Ozil rather than alongside him coming deep for the ball. His job is not to come deep and collect the ball but rather to time his runs to get into the box and receive there.”

The aboe is a reason why AS17 has not ben trusted as a no.9 by any of his coches in the long term…

  48. tsgh says:

    above*
Vidal or Pogba in for Angel Di Maria doing the rounds…

Goonie- what do you think about Felipe Anderson?

  49. goonster says:

Ts I even heard he had a bust up with messi and few other players. If only he could learn to play with his team mates. Bummer

  50. goonster says:

Yikes ts if those manscums get either player plus bale and depay then we can as well just close shop and hand them the trophy next season. Hey FFP what the fuck are you doing? Am shitting myself at the prospect of all those guys lining up against us. God help us.

  51. goonster says:

Ts I ll love to watch the filipe Anderson for a while longer to make up my judgment on him. I am currently making up a dossier. Lol

  52. tsgh says:

While we Gooners go through our wishlist on numerous blogs and other radio phone-ins, and our board platicate like Athenians, whilst our rivals are acting like a Spartan Army of immense proportions amassing huge talents all in preparation for next season…

goonie- AS17 is a top talent and will always bust a gut but imho unless we make another big signing with a bigger ego/personality, AS17 will continue to dominate the likes of Ozil because of the latters laid back personality and also OG12 because he is not as talented….

  53. tsgh says:

Lol gooonie- I personally do not see much special with Anderson; He is a bit too much like Moura. .e insconsistent

And it has to be said Ramsey is pissing me off big time recently…; He has become too focused on attacking to my dislike..

  54. goonster says:

Ts am not overly worried about sanchez had aoc been injury free we won’t be in this fix. This was supposed to be his break out year. I have huge hopes for that kid. After ozil he’s my favorite arsenal player. Strong pacy can beat his man plus packs a good shot on him. Hey he’s the brightest British talent by a mile just needs consistency and an injury free season then we ll finally be in the Chinese year of the OX 😀

  55. goonster says:

Ts when rambo moved infield last night we saw his potential. He’s a beast. Vidal and rambo??? I think it’s a tie. Both can play for hours on end but rambo shades it because of his goal returns. Blame arsene for his current form ts. He’s not a winger. End of

  56. inZ says:

I really do think wenger needs to show is managerial quality and start using the squad properly, he have started a few players and given other player a rest, we had players coming back from injuries and lacking match fitness and the fact that weve got an FA cup final coming up aswel , i think its the right time to preserved player from injury . Wenger needs that start acting like a manager and start man managing the squad properly. instead of acting like a coach who dnt give a f***. wake up wenger please.

  57. tsgh says:

Ox is a HUGE talent but I think the injuries since he joined us makes him a squad player than someone we should be pinning our hopes on…
Moreover, he is another attacker/winger who considers himself a CM.

I totally agree with you, re. it being AW’s tactics…
I still maintain Rambo should be made our CDM.

  58. goonster says:

Ts why do you guys keep forgetting oxcham is just 21?? He’s got a whole lot of years to improve. Ronaldo wasn’t really tearing the league apart at 21 was he?? I believe oxcham can be as good as hazard someday if not better. I believe in the OX my man. Am a believer 😀

  59. tsgh says:

There is no denying he is still young goonie…

Any football fan can see Ox has huge talent but he is just a young footballer with potential imho…

Before his injury he was getting games but not really pushing on…

Fingers crossed just like JW, they can both go injury free and develop as most fans expect.

In my opinion, some players are better as subs rather than starters. Gotze is one sub…

  60. goonster says:

I really hope we get laccesste ts. He ll give us the x factor we ve lacked since titi but it’s a tall order am afraid. The chavs manure and Madrid are all looking for a center forward. Bummer.

  61. goonster says:

I forgot to mention that PSG won the title over the weekend. They are also in the running to do a quadruple! The first in french football history. Wow Arab money. God help us.

  62. goonster says:

Lee suarez is shit we should have signed Jozy Altidore. Big and strong as an ox plus he’s got pace to burn. Suarez is overated imo.

  63. rico says:

    Afternoon all.

Still don’t think they’d have sold him to us Lee… Shame as he’d have been awesome for us…

  64. `Rick says:

    Evening Rico and the house.
    Just a short visit.
Good news for today .Isaac Haydon plays for the U21’s tonight
    Back later

  65. rico says:

Martin Atkinson, one of the FA’s worst referees has been appointed for the Europa Cup Final… What a joke and why is Clattenburg being overlooked?

Evening Rick, great news re Hayden.

  66. goonster says:

Afternoon folks re watching the game and from what I ve deduced I think and this is me thinking that wenger deliberately played rambo out wide to get back his beast mode. Remember he played out wide for a while before wenger dropped him back into the middle and then bam we had a world class player on our hands. That injury before xmas 2 years ago robbed him off that beast mode. I think it’s deliberate. We ll see the ramsey of last season next season. Watch out guys. God am kreaming rambo ozil wilshere hopefully diaby and santi. Jeez that’s a world class midfield. Lol knowing wenger I doubt if we ll see any recruitment in the middle.

  67. `Rick says:

    Evening all.

I think I owe you an apology Rico. I promised you a couple of posts which
I have not sent. The last 2months have been a struggle and they are still half written, how ever I will complete them all i ask is that you bear with me.
Its half time in the u21 game and we are winning 2-0 with goals by Iwobi and Serge . It sounds like Isaac is having a good game.

  68. rico says:

    Age Drake…

Rick, no you don’t as you never promised me a post ax far as I can recall… One would be nice though.. 😉

  69. rico says:

Great stuff re Isaac, I really hope he proves he’s good enough. Maybe then ‘some’ fans might know who he is….

  70. rico says:

What do think about Yannick Bolasie Ts? A good friend and staunch gooner and I were chatting about him today….

  71. `Rick says:

Its4-0 now . Goals from Pleguezuelo and Serge.
    Both from freekicks by Serge.
Ginge did you know that Nico Yennaris is a regular for Wycomb and will be playing at Wembly against Southend in the play off.

  72. tsgh says:

Rick I think Nico is better than league 2 but he is where he is I guess…
Connor Henderson is another sad story of our youth set up.
This is the first time in over 10 seasons I haven’t bothered with the youth…

  73. tsgh says:

    Lol Rico… I haven’t done that yet…something must be wrong with me…
    Bolaise looks decent though…
    Th14 rates him…

  74. rico says:

Ts, opinion from viewing is always better so don’t bother with the stats.. Lol

He battered the Dippers on Saturday, looked really good…

  75. `Rick says:

I think you are missing a point with Nico Ginge.
About a year ago there was talk that he was so ill he was close to giving up football alltogether. I will leave at that.
Rico my son-in-law is a STH at Barnet and talking to him today he tells me
that in about 2010 Bolasie Punchon and Hector(Reading player) were all playing for Barnet . He cannot beleive how they have all improved.

    Morning Rico and all..

A huge shame; common sense never prevails; but as they say common sense is not common.

That article is no surprise as society continues to be conditioned to believe the pros of the myth of the Trickle-down economics. No wonder football has also embraced that philosophy., especially since hard up football fans continue to call for bigger signings from their club chairpersons/owners…
Greed will soon become a virtue…
