Why doesn't Arsene just make a call?

Morning all,

According to a few of the newspapers, we are set to make a 3rd offer for Luis Suarez. The Daily Mirror however, report that there will be no third bid, in fact they suggest that Arsene Wenger truly believes that the last bid of £40 million and £1.00 was enough to activate a clause in the players contract meaning he is free to move. John Cross, writer of the article believes that:

1) Arsenal are waiting for Suarez to throw his toys out of the pram which would pretty much force a move out of Liverpool.

2) Suarez is still hoping that Real Madrid come in for him regardless of them suggesting they are not interested, but if  hope of signing Bale falls through for Spanish club, I bet they are straight in for the Liverpool player.

Almost a year ago, we went through a similar situation with our captain, two clubs wanted him, but he only wanted one move and that was to Manchester. Fergie wanted to sign him so badly he did the decent thing and called Arsene Wenger and asked him to pretty much name his price.

The rest as we know, is history….

So why doesn’t Arsene do the same and call Brendan Rodgers?

Oi, Brendan, how much do you really want??
Oi, Brendan, how much do you really want??

£50 million maybe the price in the Press but I strongly suspect that if Arsene Wenger is serious about signing the player, an amount somewhere in between £40-50 million would be accepted. If not then forget it, stop wasting time chasing a target who really isn’t up for sale at any cost or of course, has his eyes set on a different club…..

If they can’t come to some kind of ‘sensible’ agreement then put the phone down, dial again but call David Moyes and ask about Wayne Rooney, surely he’d rather sell to us than Jose Mourinho?

No club can truly afford to keep a player who really doesn’t want to be with them. All that would happen is they pick up a huge salary each week, and more than likely, that salary would be for an under par performance as the player sulks….

It’s not good for club or player….

I just hope and pray that all this Suarez stuff isn’t smoke and daggers and come September 2nd we hear the same old crap from the manager saying that he’d tried and came close to signing Suarez/Rooney/Higuain but he couldn’t quite make it happen…

Recently, Arsene Wenger was asked:

What are the key ingredients of a winning team?

You can’t have any weak positions. You need players who can make the difference. You need a team who can stop the other team from scoring goals – so a good goalkeeper and good defence – and you need to score.

You need one guy who can pass the ball – the quarterback – to one guy who can score the goal – the receiver.

Once you have a guy who can give passes to score, you will always have a chance to win football games. The rest is based on teamwork and attitude.

Well we have weak positions, at least three of them in my opinion!

So best he fixes them.

Ivan Gazidis has told us all their is money and it can be spent this summer. Wenger needs to make sure he keeps his part of the deal!

And fast!!

That’s it for another day…

    Morning All,

Down to Wenger to pull his finger out me thinks and realistically to think the window has been open ten weeks it’s pretty strange we still not sorted any new deals out despite how complicated it must be..!

  2. Andy Liverpool says:

Unless Liverpool have got it totally wrong (and I don’t think that they have), the £40,000,001 does not trigger a release clause. Suarez can sulk and complain all he likes but he won’t be leaving for less than £50m. If he really wants to go, put in a transfer request and then it is up to Arsenal to match our valuation. Ok, we run the risk of having an unhappy player but why should we sell for much less than his value. We learned the hard way with Torres of letting people go right at the end of the transfer window. Arsenal have the money so put up the £50m plus and then deal may well happen. If you think that we will just cave in, keep smokin’.

  3. W.A.T.H says:

I know there is still time left but do we really want to be doing our business late and meaning players don’t bed in til Oct/Nov… why were players not brought in already so they can train and settle with their new team mates..? Cannot understand why it’s all Suarez when we need 2/3 others…! Very frustrating to be honest.

  4. rockyrocastle07 says:

Morning all. We won’t get Suarez. Or Rooney. Or Fellaini. We’ll end up with just the one signing, Hugo Agogo or whatever he is called. Getting tedious now. Can’t for the life of me see why any world class player would want to join us. But then again, I was amazed when Rioch bought the clubs greatest ever player all those years ago (No, David Platt, I’m not talking about you….)

  5. Bradster says:

I’m worried by the way Wenger talks. As I said before, he talked the same way just before we got thumped 8-2 and then bought 5 players on number 99.
we played Djourou, Traore, young Jenks, outa form Ramsey, unwilling AA and Coquelin. (Six non regulars)
The subs bench were youngsters and deadwood.

  6. Lawrence says:

Its a very frustrating time and one I think will go on and on.
I don’t think we will be buying anyone for the amounts suggested.
Your always on the back foot when you publicly announce the total amount we have to spend.

  7. devilgunner says:

    Bon jour Wath.

From where is AW going to pull his finger out may I ask? I guess the answer is out of his ears since it seems as if he does not hear. Maybe out of his mouth as he does not talk. And out of his eyes as they do not see the obvious.

  8. rico says:

Hi Rocky, I was so hopeful after IG’s words but it all seems like false hope again…

I so hope the manager isn’t going to get a new contract at this moment in time….

  9. Bradster says:

I think we’ll get Suarez if it’s a release clause and Wenger will wait until the last day to save the salary cost.
I don’t see him offering above 45m and Rogers would probably accept that anyway.
I do agree that both will want to sell and go to Real if Bale doesn’t sign.

  10. GunnerDNA says:

Morning HH, all fingers pointing at AW, but can someone clarify what IG roles and responsibilities at the club are?

  11. rico says:

    26th July 2013

“What we want is not a [big] name but a good player. The name is less important. What is important is the quality of the player. We want as many top players as we can but we have to focus on the players [already here] and develop them as well.

That made me give up hope Bradster…

  12. W.A.T.H says:

    Morning Dev….

Brad, I can see the Wenger logic on holding off on Suarez to save wages but then again surely get him involved with Champions League qualifier and least helps him bed in with team mates..?
Again will Wenger go the extra mile to buy the players we need.
Does the Board have the balls to tell him to buy what we need..? Do they have the balls to hold him accountable?

  13. Bradster says:

This is my idea of Wenger’s plan

Sagna will fill in at CB and Bellerin will be promoted for the time Vermaelen is injured.

No one will go on loan and what we have is what we will use. Perhaps Frimps out again. Perhaps Aneke in the squad if Arteta struggles but more likely Ox will move to the CM. The youngsters will make up the numbers.

Up front same old same old until Suarez can play (if we buy him) and Rosicky keeps fit.

  14. Wavy says:

Shocking programme but, deal or no deal?
I mean if as IG says we have ‘loadsamunnee’ what use is it, in football, to save it. The share holders get diddly squat, the fanshare holders get diddly squat and the reduced playing staff are going to get diddly squat. So what’s the point?
The best strikers have all gone hither and yon or aren’t interested in coming to us. It’s just delay, delay, delay, followed by excuse, excuse, excuse.
    Business men – my arse!
Cut a deal! They couldn’t cut a slice of bread!

Then again, I may be wrong!

    Morning all.

  15. W.A.T.H says:

Dna, IG isn’t the manager is her…? He works with Wenger doesn’t tell him what to do that’s the Boards job…!

  16. rico says:

Don’t know about having the balls to tell AW to sign what we need, they should grab him by his balls and make him!!

If we start the season as we are now, then AW is in for some seriously nasty abuse from the stands…

  17. Lawrence says:

We have a ok squad one that can finish in the top four again. No silverware though this season. Let AW run down his contract say thank you for all you done, bye bye AW.

New manager next year and by then lets not say how much but it would be around £100M to push on and win.

Under AW we have to rely on what we have plus youngsters only.

  18. Bradster says:

Well my logic would’ve been offer Mata that little more than try sign Campbell who we had a slight chance of getting a work permit for because we used the special talent on Ryo.

  19. GunnerDNA says:

IG needs to leave rico, the statement he put out before the transfer window opens about how rich we are are making the deals more complicated. A rich man never say ho rich he is.

  20. Danish Gooner says:

Andy from Liverpool ,you do have a point but as all Arsenal fans know from past experience (especially Fabregas) there really is no point of keeping a disgruntled player,we hackled year in year out about the prize of Fabregas but ended up being shafted big time by Barca simply because the player wanted to go.The exact same will happen to Pool if Madrid gets Bale,no other club but Arsenal will be willing to buy him and the rest will be history as they say.And believe me when i say you dont want a disgruntled Suarez around on third of september.

  21. rico says:

I bet this owner gives AM another 3 years Lawrence…

Campbell suggested he’d got a permit Brad, so I don’t get why he went on loan, IF, AW has little intention to sign a striker…

  22. allezkev says:

Suarez had 3 years left on his deal…
This summer is the optimum time for Liverpool to sell.
As an unhappy player, if he stays, he’ll have an average season and his value will plummet towards £20/25million.
Liverpool have already thrown away £20m on Carroll…
Spunked £40million on Henderson and Downing.

Can Fenway realistically keep haemorrhaging such huge sums???

  23. Steve says:

I’m a Liverpool supporter and I’m getting sick of this pantomime of will he/won’t he every day!
In the 2 friendly cameo appearances he played for us, he was very committed and very hard working so body language wasn’t a problem.
The clause in his contract (as confirmed by a firm of legal sports people) is that we just need to let him know of any interest, not grant permission to speak to and certainly not accept the offer. I thought the £40m+£1 was very poor taste and unprofessional personally.
Rodgers had said on camera that even a bid of £55m (what we rate him as) may not be enough to convince us to sell. So why mess around with bids of £42m etc. I think Arsenal know it isn’t enough but it keeps the supporters happy that you’re ‘in’ for world class players.
I’ve heard multiple reports (with supposed quotes from insiders!!) that have said we won’t sell to Arsenal at any price as, in theory, you are our direct competition for top 4.

  24. W.A.T.H says:

Scott, don’t think it’s a negativity think it’s genuine thoughts and questions of what are we messing around at… Suarez yes can and will take time but what about other deals..? Few stories coming out over night that we are not sure how to spend our money and that Wenger wants to still get value for money yet the Board want him to spend what we have.

  25. allezkev says:

Campbell going out on loan, with the proviso of a permanent deal in January, means it Goodnight Nurse to him..,
Akpom has overtaken him now and with Sanogo, Wenger has strength in depth among the squad members…
Just need the cherry on the cake, L.Suarez and I’ll be happy and £5 lighter… 😉

  26. Scott from Oz says:

Wath, when we got Santi, nobody knew until hours before.
Do we know for a fact nobody else is lined up?
    Monreal?
We had never heard of him.
Yesterday, the entire day was positive….what has changed suddenly?
A few negative posts and everyone goes the same way.
    Cheer up guys.

  27. potter says:

It’s been said by a few , me included that the club is complacent from the top to the bottom. We as fans are looking for additions to the squad but if the truth is told the additions we require most are in the people we trust to run the club.
I think they enjoy the Barcelona playing style so much they have adopted the Spanish manana attitude. However as we all know Tomorrow never comes.

  28. Gabriel says:

I believe today arsenal will never sign anybody,he has started again,am sorry for arsenal this coming season. With suarez many other good players will likely joins arsenal

  29. W.A.T.H says:

Thing is though Scott, history tells us that we are faffing…. As you say Santi was done in a week Monreal done in days so why at least are we not looking at a couple of new players in already while we wait for the big deal Suarez or who ever to come to a conclusion…!

Potter think you’ve hit the nail on the head big time mate, Board needs a complete overhaul…. New people who are proper Arsenal who have a vision of where they want the club to be. New idea passion and drive to get the club to the highest level and to use our financial muscle in the right way.

  30. W.A.T.H says:

We don’t Scott but that don’t mean we can’t express our thoughts on the fact that by now most of us would of thought we’d of had one or two in the door already especially when Wenger said it’s a big summer for us and him yet still we wait…. I’m still optimistic and as have always said I’ll give it til Sep 2nd but are wwe really penny pinching waiting til we have properly qualified for CL and as said why not have a few players in already so they settle in quicker with the squad…? Makes no sense that a couple are not in already just as it makes no sense what so ever that come Sep 2nd we’ve signed no one because if the club think that they can get away with that they in cuckoo land..!

  31. Bradster says:

Actually we knew about Santi for a while. Remember the long drawn out articles about their sugar daddy not paying anymore and they needed to pay wages?
Monreal only came after Gibbs got injured. Dare I mention how poor Vermaelen and Santos were at LB, that sure to convince anyone to sign someone.

  32. C Hills says:

Morning rico, gooners and pool fans.

    Doomer rico 😀 have faith.

BR: heh Arsene, that’ll be £70 million +1. Figure you could cough that up?

  33. Lawrence says:

    My squad for wish list

    Giroud
    Suarez
    Poldoski Rooney Walcott
    Ryo Oxlade-Chamberlain
    Cazola
    Rosisky

    Wilshere Arteta
    Capoue Ramsey

    Gibbs Sagna
    Monreal Jenkinson

    Vermaelen Koscielny
    Miquel Mertesacker
    Williams

    Szczesny
    Fabianski
    Martinez

Four new additions and silverware would follow

  34. tsgh says:

    Morning all,

I enjoyed the post but I am some what confused on why its AW’s fault only that we are not buying players.

If we have bucket load of money like IG and PHW have said, then I expect IG to just up the bid for who ever we need after all AW is an employee just like them…

There are rumours in some quarters that it is only AW who is keen on Suarez; no board member is interested in the move for obvious reasons, They are willing to allow AW to hang himself with a reasonable amount i.e £40M.

On other areas, we will probably bid for St.Ettienne’s captain Joshua Guilavogui. France Tv say a bid has been rejected for him. He is the type of DM people are looking for.. a mobile M’Villa if you like.

Cheer up folks, things will kick off as they did last summer during the week before the season starts. Its never too late.

  35. rico says:

    Realist Ch, not a doomer….

Lawrence – those three would make us so so much stronger….

    And wouldn’t break the bank….

  36. C Hills says:

Gotcha, rico. Seriously though, like Ginge said above, how do we know its Arsene holding up the deals?

  37. Scott from Oz says:

Bradster, Santi was a surprise to us all mate.
Look, my point is we never appear to be active, even when we are.
This does not mean Wenger and Ivan are doing any business, but we wouldn’t know anyway.
    Why worry?
    Be happy!

  38. tsgh says:

    HI CH, all good?

Hi Rico, we had signed OG12 and Poldi of course by this time.

On Poldi, he chose us over BVB 09 and insisted on joining us only.

In OG12’s case he could have signed much later after the euro’s. In fact Montpellier had accepted a 2nd bid from Chelsea for him, but he said after speaking to Di Matteo he realised, he had to chose us over Chelsea as Roberto siad he had not seen much of him. If you remember AW said he was not aware OG12 was in Colney forcing a medical because a deal and not been officially accepted by Nicollin.

SC19 took almost 4 weeks to complete because they was no one at Malaga to sign off the deal allegedly.

  39. Bradster says:

My scepticism comes from previous seasons. We buy out of desperation or to replace (fill in cos they’re never as good) a star we lost.
Even santi was bought because no one was available to play AM.
We never seem to buy to improve a position, not even a decent keeper coach.

  40. allezkev says:

Last season Arsenal qualified for Champion League, thanks to finishing 3rd in 2012…

Maybe that’s why Wenger was able to do his business fairly early last summer.

This time we have to go thru the qualifying round in August.

So, maybe that is holding up a few deals???

  41. rico says:

Not at all Ch, IG made it clear where we are with money, I guess someone else is not so keen on spending it…

I heard we were after a Spanish international a while before he signed…

That’s my point Ts, we had signed two last summer, yet this summer we are in a much better place financially, so why all the messing about I wonder…

  42. rockyrocastle07 says:

Brad – That REALLY gets me wound up…. The fact we can’t get a decent GK coach!! What’s Spunky or Mad Jens doing these days? Get them in!

  43. rico says:

Good point there Kev, I forgot that. Even re Suarez, suggestion is he is worrying that we fail to qualify…

  44. rockyrocastle07 says:

Kev – The thought that all the shit we gave the Spuds after we pipped them to 4th, then bombing out in the CL qualifiers doesn’t bare thinking about. Although I have a nasty feeling……

  45. rockyrocastle07 says:

Tom – Can’t argue with that, apart from the Soldado bit…. can’t see him being an improvement on what we have already.

  46. tsgh says:

CH just being pragmatic. I would love us to have signed Ozil, Kheidira and Lewandowski by now. But reality is AW has stepped on too many toes because of his loyalty to the club but most fail to appreciate.

When Hig was rumoured to be coming this way, I said from day one that Hig will go to Naples and not us… a few here argued that a deal had been agreed and the player said he would join us etc.

Also Perez will not help AW for the simple fact that AW has strung him along for so long. First he told Perez to hire Pellegrini for a few years and then he will come and take over afterwards. Even Mauren-ho had beef with AW because Perez didn’t seal his move to Unreal until AW pulled out again. That is a fact too. Both Perez and Mauren-ho literally confirmed that.

Most recently this summer, Carlito was only brought in because AW turned down RM again…

The same can be said about Bayern, so I do not expect Sammer or Kaiser to sanction any decent players transfer to AFC unless Arsenal play dirty and we do not do that for some holier than thou reason.

The same can be said about PSG….

  47. jason klng says:

Quiet easy to see we buy Suarez felleini Williams and Bernard then we have a shout but as usual come the start of the season none of the above will be there and we again have to try and get fourth in the prem,so sad to see as a lifelong fan what is needed but the suits in control that supposed to be experts can’t.

  48. Wavy says:

Just a thought. If we bought and paid for Suarez now all the capital would be gone and the interest with it, not to mention his wages! However, if we spin the deal out we keep the money in the bank a while longer also he can’t play for 6 matches that must take him to at least the beginning of Sept. it will be a last minute deal – mark my words! The interest made on saving the cash for a few more weeks will probably pay his wages till Xmas!
    Shrewd business eh?

  49. Andy Liverpool says:

Danish Gooner, Yes I accept what you say. Torres downed tools for his last season. However, when he left he was half the player he once was. Suarez (despite his obvious faults) was in superb form in an average-at-best Liverpool side. The manager and the owner have made their position clear, if they agree to a £40/42m sale there will uproar here. The manager is clever enough to know that the jury is still out on him. My mates and I all feel the same, someone meets our valuation, we sell and move on. And if it is a choice of keeping a sulking player or selling to you for about £40m, we keep him. I don’t think that it is in Suarez’s dna to not try on the football field. Plenty of other players wouldn’t but he is so competitive.

  50. W.A.T.H says:

Andy Liv, Appreciate where your coming from but it’s hardly in your interests to keep Suarez if he wants to leave, 40 odd mill would buy you decent replacements otherwise you run the risk of what we been through over the last few seasons with players throwing tantrums, Sure enough Suarez had a great year last year but would be been the same if he don’t wanna be there this season, he threw his toys to get the move to Ajax and pretty much got his move to you from Ajax as well so he does have history. I just think far to much player power these days and when push comes to shove no player bigger than the club if they want out then bolloz to them let them go at whats seems best possible price all way round.

  51. tsgh says:

Cesc on his not so potential move to the dark side…

”… I’ve stated throughout the summer that United’s pursuit of Fabregas is ridiculous and it seems that’s turning out to be the case. Sport suggest United have an “unhealthy obsession” in trying to sign Cesc and have called his agent Darren Dein on a daily basis to try and persuade them to hold talks over a potential move – something Fabregas has refused to do.

They also suggest that United have been leaking false information to the British media to try and unsettle Fabregas and make it seem like Barcelona were interested in doing a deal and that the player was open to a move. This is why Barcelona came out last week and publicly insisted that Fabregas isn’t for sale and even wrote to United to tell them so, while Cesc is understood to have met with new boss Tata Martino on Monday and made it clear there was never any truth behind the United reports.”

  52. Andy Liverpool says:

He took his club to court to get his The Torres fiasco taught us many lessons.move to Ajax. However, he failed and Ajax came back with a higher bid. Arsenal put up the money and he is yours. The owner and manager both know that if they sell him to you for a ‘low’ price, the fans will never forgive them and their days at the club would be numbered. I agree with much of what you say but the club and local media are adamant that he will not go you for a ‘low’ price. It might not make sense to people elsewhere but that’s where we are at, at the moment. And there is little point Arsenal waiting until the last few days, hoping to get him cheaper then. The Torres fiasco taught us many lessons.

  53. Scott from Oz says:

Andy, surely Liverpool want this done and dusted though.
They need the time to replace the guy.
    He wants out.
    We have the cash.
We are on a level playing field here.
Imagine we do cough up the 50 million with a day or two to go.
That is one very hard lesson you guys learned already.

  54. allezkev says:

Well Andy, I think it may well go to the end of the transfer window…

It is certainly a moot point, which club would be more damaged by a long drawn out saga?!

  55. Andy Liverpool says:

We do. Sooner it is sorted the better for us. Pay our valuation now and it is sorted. We won’t sell him right at the end of the window. Risky for us, I agree, but also for you unless you have other big signings lined up. You don’t want to leave it too late to spend the money elsewhere.

  56. Scott from Oz says:

    Both, Kev.
Yes, we may save a few bucks, but it wiild be better to see him join asap, and you cough up that fiver 🙂

  57. tsgh says:

I agree Kev, AW has come out to say we are prepared to wait. We play the best poker so…. lol

We will then put all we have to Liverpoo’d on 1st September, the dippers will then settle on £20M for Bent 🙂

  58. allezkev says:

Andy, if Real Madrid come in on Sept 2nd and bid €45million.
Do you think that your lot would sell???

  59. tsgh says:

    Good question Scott re 12:49.

We certainly wanted more for PV04, TH14 and CF04 but we got what we got…

I bet the dippers asked for £65M for Torres but got £50M; they wanted £25M for Alonso and got £14M

They could have taken £16M from us for Reina years ago but he wil leave for free next summer after helping them to the CoC since then. lol

  60. Andy Liverpool says:

Just guessing here, but yes I think we would sell to Real for £45m, but not right at the end of the window. I also agree that most clubs don’t match the seller’s valuation but the owners and manager have to come out of this, looking good.

  61. allezkev says:

You see Andy, as I see it, and of course I am biased, as we all are.
I still think that Arsenal’s present squad, as it is, is strong enough to finish next May, top four or top three…

Do you think that Liverpool’s is strong enough, with An unhappy Suarez, to finish above Everton, Tottenham & possibly one of last season’s top four????

I have to say, from my biased perspective, that I cannot see that happening…

But it’ll be an enjoyable ride all the same… 😉

  62. Scott from Oz says:

Andy, i reckon the best thing for Liverpool would be obviously get a decent whack of cash, but early enough buy a top replacement.
As with us a year ago….RVP….the player obviously wants out, so best to cash in.
The difference is we never spent the bloody cash 🙂

  63. Scott from Oz says:

    Kev, you’d better.
You will have two debts to pay soon 🙂
I am off as well guys.
    Been a pleasure, Andy.
    Good night, fellow Gooners.

  64. Andy Liverpool says:

To be honest, no I don’t. Let’s see who we buy over the next few weeks but 4th place looks far away. Despite what most other fans seem to think, on Merseyside we know that we are not at the big table anymore. How could we, when the blue half of the city keeps reminding us that we are no longer even the best team in the city.

  65. C Hills says:

Ginge 11:48, rico said she was just being realistic too. Anyway, given the way we were shafted re Higuain, what you’re saying isn’t so far fetched. Would love those signings but…
However, what of the Suarez case? Me thinks its just the asking fee that is the problem.
Reply coming late because of boring work, sorry.

  66. Andy Liverpool says:

Ok, enjoyed the chat. Will return to see how we all feel about the Suarez situation in a bit.

  67. W.A.T.H says:

Hi Matt, sorry for the wait in moderation your on now…!

    Night Scott….

AndyLiv, I think will decent buys you will certainly get above the blue half again next season but as we all say what i want to pay as a buyer isn’t always gonna be the price you as the seller think your product is worth, I reckon 45mill plus a few add ons would get the deal done thats of course if we really really want him and are prepared to go the extra few mil to get him. I’d offer 30mil for Rooney as well just to piss the mancs off and annoy Moyes as well, stir them up as much as possible I say..!

  68. tsgh says:

CH, its not the asking fee.
Liverpool don’t want to appear unambitious by selling to a team who are considered weak by many such as AFC. Believe me if $hitty or the chavs had come for Suarez with £30M, Liverpool would have asked for £45M and they would have settled on £40M.

I am not worried at all in the striker department. Suarez will not replicate that form again; I am certain of that. He knew he wanted a move and so he played to his uttermost best.

There is still Benteke, he will definitely sign if the Suarez deal looks a lost cause.

My concern is the DM area and wings.

  69. devilgunner says:

I was going to do a Mourinho and smash the laptop at one point. I was going nuts typing my comments and when I press the button the page goes blank. After around 20 times I gave up.

Good to see a level headed dipper here. I enjoyed reading his comments. Good for you AndyLiverpool.

I still say I do not like Suarez, even if he smashes the spuddies for 6 in every game he might play.

  70. devilgunner says:

No Ginge. I never liked him and never will. I do not like him. Yes he might be a great player, but I feel he will bring discord in the team.

I prefer Torres. He will fight for the cause, for the team, and the team will fight for him. Especially as they will want him to succeed.

  71. tsgh says:

I was pulling your legs, Dev. I know you have voiced that concern since day one…

This transfer window has also been messed up by Moyes’s tactical bid for CF04. AW knows he has to leave at least £50M untouched just in case Cesc became available. i.e £40M for his bid and £10M for his first year salary.

All along I have said that apart from CF04 I do not see any player who is available who can just walk into the starting XI. Maybe J.Cesar… Because of this we have to stay open for a reactive bid. Not ideal but its the nature of the best. I blame Psg and Monaco for that.

  72. SD UK says:

tsgh : Interesting clip of Joshua Guilavogui , he gets too much space , he is not going to have that luxury in the PL but he has good vision though.I don’t see Wenger going for him.

  73. devilgunner says:

if you look back to my comments in other posts, you will notice that I always like Cantona and Keane. you might say that both these two are hot headed like Suarez.

Imo no. both wore their heart on their sleeves and were volatile yes. But with Suarez you get the feeling that he is slimy and snake like. Keane and Cantona never crept up to knife you behind your back. Whatever they had to say they said it in front of your face.

  74. C Hills says:

I’d be over the moon if we got Suarez, Ginge. Apart from his talent, he’s a fighter which is something we sorely need.
I don’t really see the wings as an issue as a number of players can back up Poldi and Pheo. The main issue for me is DM and a striker in the mould of TH14 or the little dutch boy.

  75. tsgh says:

I agree Dev…Cantona and Keane were like Denis Wise and Tevez, whilst I consider Suarez more of a Razor Ruddock fella…

  76. devilgunner says:

Perez is an up and coming star. but he is not ready yet to play the role day in day out. he is still a bit lightweight and needs to bulk up. But I presume he will be retained and play second fiddle to Arteta and Aaron.

  77. tsgh says:

It will depend on his visa issues too… if he has any Italian, Spanish or Portugese heritage etc..

  78. devilgunner says:

The problem with AW is that he treats games like Stoke, Reading etc the same as he does with Manure, shitty and chavs. He plays his best 11 all the time and changes if and only if players cannot play. Thus by the time the players play the top clubs they are tired or burnt out.

Aw should be more pro active and rotate during the early part of the season, like against Villa, Sunderland, For example Arteta can be played against the top sides but rested against Villa or Swansea etc.

Speaking of Swansea………..why not Michu instead of Suarez?

  79. tsgh says:

ditto- Dev; Kev has also made a similar comment in the past.

He improved slightly last season for reason’s that can be attributed to Bould’s influence, injury and just a change.

I always say that between September to November is the time to rotate the whole of the squad.

  80. potter says:

Andy the interesting bit in this is the interpretation of exactly what the £ 40 million plus 1 signified. Whilst I agree that you should get as much as you can , if and I repeat If the contract agreed was that it was a release clause then it will probably go to court. From my point of view that might not be bad thing in the long run as it might clear the muddy waters between Clubs , players and agents who in my mind take too much out of the game which could be put to better use.

  81. devilgunner says:

Arsenal entered talks with Malaga on Monday night over a potential swap deal involving striker Nicklas Bendtner and Spanish right-back Jesus Gamez, according to the Times.

Bendtner fell out-of-favour at Arsenal two years ago (perhaps, like me, Arsene couldn’t forgive him for that miss against Barcelona) and has been on loan ever since. His spell at Juventus last season was a disaster. The Dane failed to score and made just 10 appearances – although injuries didn’t help his cause.

After making just 99 league appearances in eight years, Bendtner has been told he has no future at Arsenal and has been trying to find a club all summer. The 25-year-old seemed destined to join Frankfurt a couple of weeks ago but that move collapsed due to his excessive wages demands.

However, the Times are reporting that we could finally get him off the books with the club believed to have entered into negotiations about the possibility of a loan deal that would see experienced right-back Jesus Gamez come to the Emirates.

I know very little about Gamez other than he’s a 28-year-old who’s been with Malaga for over 10 years, is regarded as a solid and dependable full-back and has captained the club.

It’s an interesting proposition and would make sense given Wenger’s recent comments about Bacary Sagna being able to play at centre-back. With Johan Djourou and Seb Squillaci gone and Thomas Vermaelen injured, we’re short in the middle of defence. Many fans have been calling for the boss to buy but in true Wenger-style, it looks like he might use Sagna there if needed. Bringing in an experienced right-back like Gamez would then give him plenty of cover at right back and he’d compete with young Carl Jenkinson if Sagna’s playing in the centre.

If this move comes off, Sagna is likely to head into the new season as both first-choice right-back and fourth-choice centre-back, with Gamez and Jenkinson options on the right, and Monreal and Gibbs on the left.

So it looks like another ‘deadwood’ could be heading out the door, which is great news, but surely it’s about time we started concentrating on bringing players IN to the club?!

  82. tsgh says:

The simple fact that Bale is now a world class player in some people’s eye scares me to death…

Yes he rescued the Welsh FC down 7 sisters road but he was not great. Unlike Theo, Bale has had a relatively injury free career thus far. He has also only lost Modric who is a player of note in that swampie team.

Just my personal view only, I think having a team stay together for one full season should give us at least 8 more points. The understanding and trust that gives the squad is invaluable. That is why Rednose always had a winning team. He never started a season with more than 2 changes to his first squad of 15 or 17 players.

  83. devilgunner says:

So that means that if Sagna impresses as a centreback during the Ems cup it will mean that he will be utilised there next season. That shows that that may be the reason why AW has not gone for a centreback.

And Gamez would relish playing with our defence as he is more defence minded like Monreal.

And get rid of that fekking lump with his big ego head.

  84. devilgunner says:

If AW gets Barry and pays for him I will bash him with my mythical saucepan after what he did to GILBERTO.

  85. tsgh says:

Sagna as a 3rd/4th choice CB makes more sense than buying Rami or Alderweireld or Williams. I rate Chico higher than Williams anyways.

Its like AC moving Maldini to CB permanently in his late 20’s. Sagana will be able to play at least 3 more years at the top level at CB too…

I don’t know much about Gamez apart from the fact that he had great understanding with Demichelis and Toulalon and Isco against BVB 09 in the CL last season.

  86. tsgh says:

Alex Sanchez another winger/striker than an out and out striker though… and a tad on the short side.

I liked him a lot when he was at Udinese. He made the wrong move imho.

I think he may head to Ath. Madrid to be honest because of D. Simeone.

  87. tsgh says:

True Dev re Silva… but I think in Silva’s case he did not want to play in the CB position in his later years. At that time Flamini, Denilson and CF04 were ahead of him in that position.

The funny thing was he was being used as a CB in the Brazilian national team…

  88. devilgunner says:

If we get another winger Podolski will be moved to the centre, nullifying our need for a centrefoward. We will have him and Giroud to rotate.

And if AW gets Barry to rotate with Arteta and Aaron he can rotate as much as he wants to rest now.

  89. tsgh says:

Well, it looks like Gerv is still with the squad. It may disappoint some but I think he is a useful squad player.

Frimps, Santi and SC19 were all in training earlier today. Expect to see them in the Erms cup.

  90. devilgunner says:

What I am reasoning about is that in this team there are no superstars who are going to throw toys out of the pram. They are all level headed hard workers who are all equal. And yes I am willing to offer Sagna a two/three year contract if he plays as a centreback. I think he will make it there.

No I would not exchange Jack for Rooney.

  91. tsgh says:

So what you thoughts on possible marquee signing ? – ”What I am reasoning about is that in this team there are no superstars who are going to throw toys out of the pram.”

  92. devilgunner says:

That is why I want Torres Ginge………….

    1) he got points to prove.
    2) he tries his best all the time.
    3) he will thrive in our system.
    4) watch the goal he scored against us. a hooked shot. That says it all about him being a predator.
    5) he leads the line very well.

He is not big headed. and will work for the team.

Of all the superstars linked to us the only one I would like is Shrek. For the simple reason that he is like a GRANNY SCORNED. 😆

  93. tsgh says:

😀 Rico and WATH love Wooney too.

Seedorf is now playing as a striker for Botafogo in Brazil… lol

  94. allezkev says:

I would never, in a million years, consider selling, swapping or any other ing with Jack Wilshere.
Jack is a supremely talented footballer, and if Arsene Wenger or whoever, cannot fit Jack into the Arsenal team/system, then they’re not very good at their job IMHO…

  95. devilgunner says:

I am pissing myself with laughter.

The spuds want to build their new ground on Bale’s back. 125 million. Geeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  96. tsgh says:

I think AW should cut his losses and bid the £50M now or just walk away and buy Fellaini as a marquee for the faithful. I do not consider him a star but a signing like that will get talk sports worried… 🙁

  97. tsgh says:

Hi Kev, how is the day?

Of course Dev, where do you think ‘spares’ or the spuddies paid £17M for Paulinho? They obviously need money big time.

They could not even negotiate a free athletics stadium.. bell-ends. 🙂

  98. allezkev says:

We talk about this mythical No.10/in the Hole bollox, well could not Jack play in the Hole.
A position where he would face less attritional challenges than in the bloody box2box nonsense…
He is wasted in a deeper position, use his talents where they would do the most harm to the opposition!

  99. devilgunner says:

I am off now. time to enjoy the Med with the temperature a bit cooler. At the moment it is 35 degrees, much better than the 42 degrees it was circa 13.00 hrs.

    cu mates.

    later

  100. tsgh says:

Ak, JW will be awesome as the play maker on the lhs in the front 3 imho… That is where he has played all his life albeit he is still young

As a no.10, he played there a lot last season; he has to learn to play with his back against goal. imo….

  101. devilgunner says:

    hiya habib.

I agree regarding Jack. why not play him in the hole. should be better than Adam any way.

I am off now for a splash.

  102. tsgh says:

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has compared Manuel Pellegrini’s coaching methods and attitude to those of his old mentor at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger.

Former Malaga manager Pellegrini has took the reigns from Roberto Mancini at the Etihad this summer.

“He’s a little bit like Arsene Wenger in the way he works,” Nasri said on Sky Sports. “Same kind of training, same attitude as well.

“What’s different between him and other managers I’ve worked with is he’s very present in training. He’s not scared to stop the training when something is wrong.

“For the moment it’s pretty good. He’s someone who talks with the players, so it’s always good for the player to know exactly what he’s doing; if it’s good or if it’s wrong.

“What I like about him is he talks about everything outside football; how you are in your life and stuff and it’s pretty important for a manager to understand these things, like a psychologist, it’s good.”
    …………………………………………………..
He should leave our name out of his mouth… 😡

  103. allezkev says:

Hi Ginge, I am in the garage for some routine maintenance, that’s the cab, not me.. 🙂

Not gonna do the Leyton Orient game tonight and I won’t be slapping it up to Luton on Saturday either…

I got a curry with my name on it instead…

  104. allezkev says:

That Bendtner swap deal seems a plan…
Just get that fraud out of our club…

Gervinho, he’ll be gone before the Window closes Rico, I think it’s a case of wringing a bit more out of the clubs interested in him…

  105. tsgh says:

Kev, the weather is not its best so I will take a ran check too for the Leyton Orient game as well…
    You and the garage again?

  106. rico says:

    Good then Ts/Kev…

I saw the swap suggestion, is the Rb any good though? And that must mean Sagna is off…

  107. allezkev says:

I never wanted Sagna to leave, still cannot understand why his contract is in limbo…
It can only be about money, as usual…

I see that we’re being linked to Gareth Barry again…
Don’t mind him myself, but not at £5million and certainly not the wages he earns at Man City, considering that he’s 32…
Could get 3 good years out of him if City and his agent are sensible…

  108. Lee says:

Adam.Alls good in da hood! My daughter and middle son have ear infections so no pool for a few days….been a really easy task, not!

  109. Adam says:

Lee. I think Wenger is waiting until you get back before making any significant signings. How have things come to this?
Actually I know exactly how, but can’t be bothered just yet. Apathy is a dangerous thing among fans. Not that Arsene The Great would notice. Silly old sod.

  110. Lee says:

Adam, I stumbled upon something you’d like….dates wrapped in jamon, then fried in olive oil, they are gorgeous!

  111. Lee says:

Spin spin….mega signings….bid low for players….massive kitty…..we can afford £250k pw salaries….we can win the league with this squad…bollocks bollocks and more bollocks!

  112. rico says:

And I fell for all the bollocks – I really hoped this summer would be different, but it seems not…

Now we are linked with a Barca misfit who is valued at £30 million???

  113. Adam says:

Mmm, that does sound rather yummy Lee. Rather like a Spanish Devils on Horseback, if that’s what they call the dates wrapped in bacon.
On Wenger. Every passing minute and every disgruntled mail from Arsenal friends of decades past brings me closer to the realisation that my mate was right about him 5 years ago and I was hopelessly wrong. That’s what comes from having a positive, trusting nature I suppose.
Off for a few hours. Love to you and the family Lee. Have a great time.

  114. rico says:

    The rumour site 😛 😆 😆

    30 Jul 2013 15:19:05

Just heard from an extremely reliable source close to Arsenal that Wenger will make a £76m double swoop for Liverpool pair Luis Suarez and Lucas Leiva. Around £51m of this is supposedly towards the Suarez transfer, with the other £25m for Lucas. Expeect the bid to happen in next 48 hours.

  115. W.A.T.H says:

Malaga Goon at it again I see Rico….!

Hope your having fun Lee and having a good relax mate.

  116. stevepalmer1 says:

    Evening all, Nice one Rico.
“What are the key ingredients to a winning team”
In my eye’s it’s a manager who can buy the right players, Puts everybody at ease , And can make a decision when he has to. Wenger at the moment is failing all those things.I hope he realises that if he fails to do any of those things he will undoubtedly be hounded out however the board think of him. This is Wenger’s last chance or his done.

  117. stevepalmer1 says:

I have just read that Arsenal have announced another partnership with Sterling Bank, Must be to invest our transfer fund.

  118. devilgunner says:

    Was………there and back again.

    Ahh the nice heavenly Sea.

But I prefer trekking in the mountains to splashing about.

    How are you my mates.

    bdw…Good Evening.

  119. devilgunner says:

The sea in the early morning….til 9.30am and after 17.00 hrs is always heavenly.

Its the in between which is bad for your health. UV index up to 12+.

and the temperature goes up to 42 degrees. unbearable.

  120. potter says:

    Club announces Sterling Bank partnership

Arsenal Football Club has announced a new partnership with Sterling Bank to issue co-branded debit cards in Nigeria.

Looks to be so Rico . Perhaps Ivan has lodged our transfer funds with some disparate colonel.

  121. rico says:

I love it all times of the day Devil 🙂

    Thanks Potter/Sp…

Bet Arsene Wenger is rubbing his hands together at the that news…

  122. Micko says:

Hooray, hooray, Sterling Bank, get in there AFC.

Wath, pretty strange or just the norm.

    Oh err, rico.

  123. tsgh says:

    Hey Micko…

    A bit early for you….

    Arsenal XI line-up
Arsenal: Iliev, Moore, Siemann, Yennaris (C), Boateng, Hayden, Eisfield, Olsson, Akpom, Aneke, Silva

  124. rico says:

Kev, but whose day will Diaby save, it won’t be ours ….. Night to you, have a great evening….

  125. Micko says:

Not sure if i’m early or your late tsgh.
Sounds lovely kev, enjoy your evening matey.
rico, are the flood gates about to open.
Sorry to bore you to death but I’m having so many problems trying to post lately, wordpress keeps trying to redirect me to rico1 or something similiar ! Gremlins in the works.

  126. rico says:

Ts, just checking how many others he can bring into the first team squad to save money no doubt….

  127. rico says:

I think you are right re the floodgates Micko, he has just over 2 weeks to come good..

That’s interesting, or maybe worrying re wordpress and you getting directed to me ….

  128. tsgh says:

Ch, that is what almost all rich people do… including the evil one’s who claim they are helping with child immunisations etc.

  129. devilgunner says:

We are loosing 2-3 to LEyton Orient.

We have given 2 shots on target and scored both.

The problem is that Leyton have been allowed to give 7 shots on target. Again our defending has been a bit poor,

We have a good amount of possession but not in the danger areas. That honour goes to Leyton in the attacking segment of the pitch.

  130. rico says:

I don’t know about both Ts, IG made it clear in his statement about the money. I fear that the man alongside him isn’t playing ball…

Not the best way to ear a new contract…

And then there is Stan Kroenke, well its a shame he can’t get a flight over and tell his employee to sort things out…

Apparently he did after we lost at Old Trafford 8-2, do we really have to endure something similar to see the silent one get involved?

  131. Micko says:

tsgh, begs the question, is he or isn’t he…..only his hairdresser really knows.
CH, talking of tax dodgers haven’t seen George around for a while, hope he isn’t locked up in the back of some removal van.

  132. Micko says:

Last time I was down Leyton Orient for a friendly Peter Shilton was in goal, can’t remember the year but if I get it wrong tsgh will tear strips off of me, I’ll play the easy card and say the 90’s.

  133. rico says:

I’ve done enough moaning for one day, going to watch some old rubbish on television and have an early one….

    Tomorrow is another day…

    Night all, stay safe….

  134. C Hills says:

I don’t get them at all rico and Ts. Apart from “Caveman” Island, is there someplace else they can take it all to, like the grave?

Yea, poor defending is so unlike us.;(

  135. tsgh says:

I am not the ageist police around here.lol
We conceded 2 goals from corners. Boateng and Hayden in CB positions,
    Night Rico.

  136. tsgh says:

well I expected that result. That is normally the thread during the senior team tour and immediately afterwards.
Aneke, Eisfield, Nico, Akpom will feel let down or dejected not being with the senior squad. Serge and Zelalem are now senior players…

  137. Micko says:

CH, I just had a really ‘orrible thought, I hope you don’t look nothing like that moniker of yours come September 2nd !!!

  138. C Hills says:

    Night DG.

Micko, looking like that could just thrust me into being the club’s mascot you know, to strike fear into people just in case we end up not signing a player who has bite.

  139. Micko says:

tsgh, CH, Scott, serious question, was asked this at work today, what would be a big boys ulimate toy if money was no object, a helicopter doesn’t cut the mustard btw, related to an exhibition in Dublin coming up shortly, I gotta come up with something different or I’ll be in for the long jump !

  140. Scott from Oz says:

Ginge, Silva has tricks to beat his man that are absolutely world class.
If he ever gets his head right, we will have one hell of a player.

  141. tsgh says:

Scott you will be more tight-fisted than Stan if you owned Arsenal.lol

Aneke was good too. In fact our front 5 were good.

  142. Bradster says:

    Morning all,

I read something interesting but would like your guys input. I read Fellani’s release clause is only available to teams in CL. Technically we are still qualifying for a place. Is this true and could this be the reason we supposedly put in a bid equalling the release amount but didn’t sign him?
Then again other reports deny that we even put in a bid at all.

  143. Lee says:

    Morning all…
Thanks Potter re the grommets, I wish I’d bought them first!! At least they can go in the pool now! My son’s 9 today so i’m off go-karting in 35c heat….the joys of parenthood! 😉
I’m feeling half full today….Suarez will be a Gooner next season!!!

  144. Lee says:

Morning Brad, we are talking about Arsenal here….I doubt we’ve bid at all! He’d be a cracking signing for us….

  145. Lee says:

I appreciate that making transfers etc is a complex deal but surely Arsenal could of nailed one by now?? Something to lift the squad/fans…..or customers as Adam quite rightly calls them!

  146. rico says:

Morning Lee, sorry to dampened your bright mood, but Suarez has admitted that the clause isn’t a release clause. £50 m it will be at least…

    Fat to no imho…

  147. rico says:

Good news re the children Lee, I bet the big one, not the 9 year old will enjoy go-karting the most 😉

    Morning Ch…

  148. Bradster says:

I see the scum are also in for Suarez if Bale goes. That’ll test his claim he wants CL football.

  149. C Hills says:

Now that we know its not a release clause, are we sure lfc will sell at £50 million to an epl club?

  150. Bradster says:

Do you guys think Pheo can still develop striker attributes? Henry was his age when he came to us previously as a winger.
Henry could already dribble and was really quick with the ball at his feet. He developed the rest of his game at Arsenal.
Can Theo still learn to run with the ball at his feet. He’s currently not that quick in that case. He really can’t dribble and his positioning is poor. A guy that quick should never be offside.

  151. rico says:

It’s a race against Mo Farrah Bradster, Mo made the challenge and Bolt agreed, good on them both I say…

  152. Adam says:

Morning Rico, brudder Lee and all. Speaking purely as a front-line customer I am forced to believe that, unless their is some cunning master plan at work here, I have serious reservations about Wenger’s mental health. I’ve heard of suicide by Cop but suicide by fans is a new one on me.

  153. C Hills says:

Brad, be careful there, I said Pheo. Don’t analyse Theo while the good lady is around. 🙂
Bolt should’ve been an hip hop artist.

  154. Bradster says:

Yeah, he’s a pompous ass but that was good to see from Husain. Got a little bit of my liking.

  155. Carlos says:

What the hell is wrong with Wenger? For the past 6 years he knows that he needs to beef up the squad. We lost quality players because of his refusal to do so.

When he does know it, then why does he wait for the last moment to make his choice and then go for prolonged cooked-up negotiations?

This happens year-in and year-out. Making a fool out of fans. Getting them excited over nothing. Its time fans put their foot down and boycott their matches if he refuses to bring in required and real quality this season. Enough with the drama.
