Who will 'bottle it'? Suarez owes his club………. Nothing!

Morning all,

So who will break first?

Who will bottle this Suarez scenario?

It is two-fold really. A player may want to go, but then somebody has to pay the value or worth of that player.

Says Brendan Rodgers who believes his player is worth at least £50 million and with us currently bidding £1 over £40 million, someone will have to give…..

Will we go to £50 million?

Not sure I could see us doing that but then I never expected us to go to £40 million either.

It’s going to be an interesting time ahead, that’s for sure…..

Kroenke must already be suffering with huge nose bleeds!

If we meet Liverpools so called asking price, he’d would be worth every penny. This is what we’d get in return:

30 goals in 44 appearances for Liverpool last season.
Since joining from Ajax in January 2011 for £22.7m, has scored 51 in 96 appearances.
49 goals in 48 games for Ajax the season before joining Liverpool.
31 goals in 62 appearances for Uruguay.

Ok he has a bag full of naughtiness but Martin Keown believes that Arsene Wenger is the ideal man to help the player get rid of his darker side:

Wenger creates a habit of behaviour that everyone around him follows. He is a very calm person and everyone else follows that example. He makes good decisions based on calmness. He treats his players with respect and creates a learning environment.

All of this is aimed at keeping you from crossing the line, which is what Suarez needs to learn. Of course, it doesn’t work all the time because Wenger still wants you to be fiery on the pitch — I should know — but Suarez would benefit. We all know deep down how to behave; Wenger promotes that.

Suarez is a game player, he’s a match winner, he’s a trophy winner and if we end up signing him, I’m sure he will top his best ever return of goals and that’s because he doesn’t muck around with his chances. He see’s the back of the net and he finds it, he’s that bloody good!

We have just agreed a new deal with the Emirates and we have, reportedly, just agreed a mega new kit deal with Puma, surely neither party would have parted with so much money unless they were fully aware of the clubs intentions?

No, I don’t think so either which is why I believe this summer will be a good one for us.

Another comment Brendan Rodgers made yesterday was:

The support he has received from the supporters and the people of the city of Liverpool has been unrivalled. In this period of time he’s missed a lot of games for the club through various reasons. The people have stood by him, like a son and really looked after him.

That is so similar to the words we all heard this time last year when RvP made it clear he wanted to leave.

We fans all thought he owed us, he owed the club for standing by him season after season when he missed matches through injury but the reality is, players these days, owe their clubs nothing.

I doubt Suarez will be any different and if he pushes enough, Rodgers will have little choice but to let him go….

And what is actually written into the players contract?

Now that is the million dollar question…

That’s it for another day, have a good one all…

Im not sure we will land a player of his reputation. But if we do, we still need to buy an extra defender, defensive midfielder and goalkeeper. Im getting tired of waiting. Oh and good morning from Denmark

  2. devilgunner says:

Good Morning Lady, Sir, Gentlemen and Ladies.

A realistic post in which hopes are raised a bit realistically but one which puts things in perspective.

I think that Suarez will come. But I would have loved Shrek.

According to reports in Brazil Bernard is on the way. DO I hope we get him? yes and no. yes because he is exciting and no because he is another midget. If we get him forget about Cesc. If we dont it means Cesc is going to come.

At least that is how I feel.

Cesar????? I am already yawning. I hope to see him but its becoming like the Higuain saga. Get a daisy and start….he will, he wont, he will, he wont…………..

  3. rico says:

Good morning Denmark, may we have your votes please 😉

As long as Real stay away, I reckon we could get Suarez..

But yes, we need a couple more too….

  4. rico says:

Morning Devil, I have a sneaky feeling Cesar is coming our way, the only other club seemingly interested have now walked away, or Cesar refused to move as he wants to stay in London…

Rooney topped my list too, but it seems Chelsea are favs, we’ll see eh, there will be a few rumbles and grumbles on both yet I suspect…

  5. ArsenalDK says:

Rico, you have our votes every day 😉
Suarez would definitely do a job for us, he was a one man army for Liverpool last season.
But I would love it if Fellaini joined. He is one of the best defensive midfielders ind the world IMO

  6. tsgh says:

    Morning HHers,

An exciting post.. truly enjoyed reading that.

Some people are not happy. LG are not impressed we are not buying MF, Cesc and Cesar instead of attempting to buy LS07.

This is why Suarez is a waste of money.Playing Poldolski giroud Walcott next season giroud will get 20 premierleague goals guranteed.Playing 442 poldolski , giroud up front poldolski would get 20 plus league goals next year.Poldolski Suarez Walcott just doesn’t workSuarez giroud Walcott , offers very little improvement over what we have now.
I will be proved so right if we sign Suarez just pray it doesn’t happen.
Remy is a better value alternative for 8m.
    ———————————————
These are the guys who claim to represent the views of smart gooners… well not me but then I am not smart so… lol

  7. rico says:

    Thanks Adk, I just couldn’t resist….

Thanks Ts, I actually quite enjoyed writing it 😉

Let them moan, but I bet they won’t if Suarez scores 30+ goals and we win a trophy..

Remy, bloody Remy, if we signed him, some on there would go bonkers, as would I, unless it was him and Suarez…

  8. JamesofSouthWales says:

RICO I hear so much from Liverpool fans he owes for this and that but like you I said Nasri and RVP owed us look how that turned out. I don’t think well hit the 50 mil for him, well either stand our ground or up it by 5 million based on winning the CL and meet em half way out of respect. But we don’t need to sign him before the end of the transfer window cause of his ban so il bet it gown on till near then

  9. G_G says:

    Morning everyone,
    nice article BTW.
I agree with you when you say that nowadays players owe nothing to their clubs as they’re fully aware that their careers usually end when they turn 33/34 … a bit later if you’re a GK
That said if a player wants to leave unfortunately for the the Club there’s nothing they can do but to sell him.
What you pay a player 100k a week for ? The days when you saw players sulking relegated to the stands or training alone are long gone , because the Clubs know that there’s nothing positive about doing so.

Let’s hope for the best… after years of nightmare transfer windows could this be the summer we’ve all been waiting for ???

  10. tsgh says:

Being a conspiracy loonie, my theory is Henry has asked Stan to help him save face in relation to the ‘koppers’ deluded self importance. 🙂

It should be noted the first time any news of Suarez to Arsenal broke, was when some odd bet placed in Madrid. Which tells us that the Higuian bid was dumped because Suarez was on his way to Arsenal. The deal has probably already been done, the rest of it is rhetoric to pacify Liverpool fans.the next stage will be Suarez putting in a transfer request.

Is it not strange that we bid more than £35M initially but liverpool and the media tried to pass it off as £30M.

Some fans would have preferred if we had met Hig’s evaluation instead but as frustrating as AW is he knows his football to know Hig is worth less than £20M.

  11. rico says:

Ts, you a conspiracy loonie, surely not….

Wath, we can’t even sell anyone… Gervinho is still with us.

  12. devilgunner says:

We have not bought anyone yet.

But I feel that the FIVER is dangling dangerously close to the countryside rather than London side. 😉

  13. rico says:

    Welcome GG and James…

GG, I forgot that little French twit who really did the dirty on us but I think we came out on top there with the money we got from City..

He’s hardly set the world alight since he left us….

  14. ktr7 says:

    Good read.

News outlets in spain are reporting that madrid have NO interest in suarez.they also back up what i said yesterday that they are satisfied with Ronaldo/Benzema/Jese/Morata as their forwards.its Bale now or bust for them.

This leaves us in a 1 man fight for suarez.their fans are in denial hoping madrid come for him but just like we hoped juve would stump up for judas it will not happen and suarez knows this.its either us or he remains and am sure i know what option he prefers.

Another point is that Suarez’ camp are baffled why pool rejected our offer since according to their interpretation that £40mil + is a release clause that got activated the moment pool failed to reach the top 4.he has contacted his lawyers on the issue and this could get very messy.

All in all.pool are f***ed.they’ll not get those amounts that they value suarez for.we’ll have to meet in the middle by use of clauses or else it will turn very ugly for them disrupting their preparations with the player getting his way.its only a matter of when not if he joins us now.

  15. G_G says:

    BTW,
I still CANNOT believe that AFC haven’t wrapped up the signings of Cesar and Williams (or another defender) by now….

    #confused to say the least

  16. emma says:

Marca: reporting that R.Madrid are not interested in Suarez/Ibrahimovic even if they begged to be signed

  17. Bradster says:

i hope so ts, really tired of great players been pulled out from under us at the last minute.

I saw yesterday someone ask doesn’t Bale play in the same position as Ronaldo? I reckon if Real can afford to keep Ronaldo then Bale will have to tow the line as a right winger. I however doubt their egos will allow for that.

  18. devilgunner says:

I will only believe when I see them with the gear.

    Until then its still…………YAWWWWWNNNNNNN!!!!!!

  19. rico says:

Thanks Kt, I don’t believe a word that comes from Madrid…

You are not alone GG, time is passing us by and the season kicks off soon. I’m hoping any/all will be in for the Ems Cup weekend…

  20. tsgh says:

Zlatan wants a pay increment even though he earns 14 million Euros a year… phew

Those with the stupid argument that Liverpool will not sell to an EPL club; British and European law forbids restraint of trade. The reason we had to sell l Nasri, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy and RVP to EPL clubs even though we would have preferred to sell them to non EPL clubs because they could just as easily claim restraint of trade and force the sale.

  21. emma says:

G_G – Until Cesar takes a paycut from his £80,000 p/w wages. Arsenal won’t sign him. Never rated Williams apart from him being a good blocker, the pillar of swansea defence is Chico and that’s who we should be signing

  22. potter says:

High stakes poker being played now. Not between the two clubs but between the clubs and their respective fans. It’s a we did everything we could scenario from both of them. If he goes Pool will say that they did everything to keep him and if he comes to us or goes to Madrid , we bid our highest ever .You are right in your assumption that it’s about saving face now.
Anyone know if there is any previous between Kroenke and Henry over their side of the pond.?

  23. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning all.
Wath, Home and Way or the Scousers ??
Well, one is the worst soap opera in the history of television, filled with boring, tedious characters and dragging its feet on a daily basis via storylines that have been scripted by the most unimaginative of people, while living on past glories.
Home and Away,on the other hand, is just shit.

  24. G_G says:

    @rico,
well that’s the hope. The Cesar deal shouldn’t take long now that Napoli have signed Reina.
We’re desperately short in that position …as well as at CB/LB
Also Williams seems pretty desperate to leave, but because of the fact that Swansea wants more £££ I fear that this deal might drag on until the final day of the tranfer window or collapse before that deadline in favour of someone unproven from a different league (if we’re lucky)

  25. tsgh says:

    emma says:
July 25, 2013 at 10:15 am… every manager and chairman are following AW’s blueprint. Wait for a club to agree to sell to another club and come in with fresh legit money…

AW will now go for Capoue cause he knows how much Toulouse are willing to accept… genius.

  26. Ngeno says:

Good afternoon from kenya. I would like to see suarez, benard, cesar and williams in an arsenal shirt.

  27. Xr!s says:

I’m really surprised Wenger’s gone this far to sign Suarez.. I won’t be happy if we didn’t succeed.. People should read BBC because they are best source around not Goal..

Rico, which do you prefer,Higuain at £31.8m or Suarez at £40+m?

I don’t think Wenger would chase Suarez this way if he wasn’t assured of his chances of getting him.. Moreover,Suarez is the only world class striker on the market now.. If we missed him,we should forget about a marquee signing..

I think Madrid will only put their money on Bale.. Ronaldo is being tried as a striker by Ancelotti and they also have Morata as back-up.

  28. G_G says:

    On a different note,

Don’t you all find weird that for the first time since I can remember we’re actually conducting a transfer so publicly ???

  29. tsgh says:

Brad, its an illusion Ronaldo wants back especially to Man U… Irina Shayk will not move to cheshire. Cobham possibly 😉

  30. devilgunner says:

Ginge……….I never thought of that. AW waits to see how much Toulouse want for Capoue then he sneaks in with the amount. I thought he was neglecting that area of the team.

  31. tsgh says:

    emma says:
    July 25, 2013 at 10:30 am

You get full marks for that comment.

Our recruitment policy will still be influenced by the 25 squad rule.

  32. tsgh says:

Mr Dev, we bid a respectful £12M for Capoue in January but Toulouse wanted over £15M. PSG had approached Capoue before that and he told them he will not move to another ligue 1 club. He also turned down AS Monaco a month ago.

I suspect AW wants him but it will depend on a few things… does he think Aneke can contribute? When he gets back he will also assess Frimps progress.

  33. Scott from Oz says:

Xr!s, funny, elsewhere, i said Ronaldo would be Reals new striker if and when they get Bale , and was laughed at.

  34. tsgh says:

And the way Bernard is keeping things on the down low, I suspect he is Arsenal bound. He will be the perfect Hleb replace with the advantage of scoring goals i.e midget Bobby. lol

  35. tsgh says:

People, RM need £20M to get Ronaldo to renew his contract. Reals transfer is done.
Carlito will never sign Suarez based on his track record… Carlo’s not Suarez’s btw.

    Hi Scott, Kt

  36. Xr!s says:

I read that Ginter’s deal is quite close, same with Bernard’s.

Wenger might have a surprise package for us,we just have to be patient

  37. rico says:

I like Williams too emma… Would be really happy if we signed him..

I don’t know Potter but I did read a story which question whether that tweet really was form Henry….

Xr’s – Rooney or Suarez would be just tip top- Higuain, well no way is he worth what Napoli have reportedly paid…

  38. G_G says:

    emma-
So you’re saying that it was Liverpool that fed the journalists when the news about our first £30/35m bid broke ?

Rogers & co took 3 or 4 days before confirming that bid to the press…
I don’ t know what game are they playing… maybe they wanted to go public to start a bidding war and/or get other Clubs interested.

    One thing is for sure,
AFC won’t be pleased about that…

  39. ktr7 says:

pool fans are really upset with us and do not understand why suarez wants us.with him in their side in the form of his life they couldn’t even finish above everton.with him in our side we could challenge with a couple of atute additions.i bet they still can’t believe that we have the nerve to go after their best player without using sugar daddy money.we may not have won anything these past couple of months but we are certainly better positioned to challenge.

ts i like the look of Bernard.he is like a mix of ribery/santi in my view.his agent is saying he has left mineiro.if it is to us then he will be excellent if he can adapt.

  40. Xr!s says:

    Lol,Scott.. You’ve become a Prophet.

Carlo is not known to play 4-2-3-1,he’s all about 4-2-2-2 or diamond 4-4-2.. That’s why he’s trying out Ronaldo up top..

I’m really pitying Barcelona,I’m not sure that they will win any grains next season.. RM’s squad is quite scary and stocked

  41. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Rico – Your statement “…We fans all thought he owed us, he owed the club for standing by him season after season when he missed matches through injury but the reality is, players these days, owe their clubs nothing.”; prompts the qestion all football supporters, not just Arsenal ones, must answer. Do players owe their club and supporters some loyalty and are they required to honour their contracts? If they are allowed to treat their contracts like used toilet paper, why should the clubs not be allowed to do likewise?

The pendulum has swung from one extreme to the other. Clubs once held players in virtual slavery, well paid for the time no doubt, yet slavery none the less. Even when their contracts had expired, the clubs could determine where a player could go. Now we have a virtual free for all, where players can effectively walk away from their contracts. The process may be a protracted one, but it can be done, unless their clubs are willing to take the finacial hit by keeping a disatisfied, and possibly hostile, player who may or may not play for the remainder of their contract. A very expensive lesson which would equate to the club shooting itself in the foot with regard to futur signings.

We can’t have it both ways. Either a player owes some loyalty to his Club and Supporters or we admit that they are hired guns and that their contracts are not worth the paper they are written on. If the latter we no longer have the right to call Robin van Persie – Judas van Purse strings, as a player is just a short term fee for service contractor not an employee. Football becomes/is strictly a business &/or commodity. We forfeit the priveledge of critcising the management/owner(s) of our clubs, if they are being run as an effective and profitable business enterprise. We have no say, unless we are shareholders, and if we don’t like the product we can switch brands; just like we do with any other commodity. In doing so we lose much of the attachment to the traditions some us us still hold dear. Is that what we want?

Many of us still hold some illusion of attachment and loyalty to our clubs. Can we maintain that if we treat the game like any other commercial consumer commodity? Many/some of us would hope so, but many of us woul abandon that in a flash, if we saw the possibility of some faux or electo-plated silverware. Is everything, including our traditions, our morals, our standards &/or our history for sale?

  42. tsgh says:

We are more likely to sign a RB than a CB imho…

Sagna is our 2nd/3rd choice CB now. CJ25 is ready to start at rb.; and Bellerin will be assessed to see if he is ready to cover in that area after the tour. I think he is a far better footballer than CJ25 but defensively he is no where as good yet.

  43. Canadian Gooner says:

Sorry for the long post folks, but I felt it had to be posed/said. I for one, possibly the only one, value our clubs ethos and traditions as well as our pursuit of playing success (i.e. the BPL, COC, FA Cup and ECL).

I have girded my loins and donned a flakvest and tin hat while waiting for your responses, if any.

  44. rico says:

    Morning Cg,

RvP made me realise that players owe the club nothing. I doubt there is a player anywhere who had been looked after in a way that he was.

Maybe Rosicky to a degree and now Diaby.

Rosicky has stayed loyal, the link in my first comment is a wonderful story to read I thought and quite refreshing. Rosicky is unique in this day and age..

I though RvP would remain loyal and give back some of the time given to him but I mistook him for being another DB. Had RvP not been Dutch, maybe I wouldn’t..

But, clubs, fans can moan all they like when players leave for bigger better things but are we not all sometimes quick to forget that in most cases, that player left another club who perhaps thought they too were owed loyalty, in order to join us…

Football and transfers is just one huge merry-go-round.

Sometimes we get to stay on, sometimes we have to get off, knowing the ride is over…..

  45. Scott from Oz says:

Remember when kids only ever wanted to play for one club?
    Bloody money.
    Bloody players agents.

  46. tsgh says:

It will be a loss for both Yennaris and Aneke, Rico imo.

AW likes Gedion and Serge we all know that. I think Eisfield is ready even as a replacement for SC19 or TR07 as the no.10.

You know where I stand with some purported signings… I do not rate a lot of the players people think are good including Fellaini.

Can Aneke gives us the strength and height we need in the squad? Yes he can and he is a better footballer, considering Pep wanted to sign him at 16 y.o for Barca B team.

I would rather we allowed some of our kids to contribute. They cant be worse than AA23 in his last 18 months with us or even Miquel can’t be worse than Le Squid. And the boy loves Arsenal. Last summer he could have joined Malaga but he chose to stay even though he was guaranteed playing time.

  47. tsgh says:

Brad, Lowton signed an improved and extended contract last week with Villa.

He is not better than Yennaris or Bellerin imho of course. Lowton of course has been lucky to be allowed to play in the ePL because he is not playing for a team whose fans are counting trophless seasons 😉

  48. rico says:

I’d be sad to see either/both go Ts, thought the latter had a really good time so far on tour. Just wouldn’t make sense to get the right age and then be dumped..

But then the same thing happened to Meade and Bartley…

  49. tsgh says:

Hi Cg- ”We can’t have it both ways. We have no say, unless we are shareholders, and if we don’t like the product we can switch brands; just like we do with any other commodity. ”

Very well put! I share that same opinion myself. But then I suspect you already know that.

I think some fans expect their football club to treat them like the political parties or governments running our respective countries should treat us…

As I always ask but a few may think I am being rude… if any of us were worth £2B would we spent that on pleasing some fans somewhere who do not understand how business is run?

  50. tsgh says:

Rico, Meade turned down an extension because he was not guaranteed playing time.

I think with Meade I suspect AW decided to be honest with him like he did with Muamba. He was not good enough to play as alw in a front 3 but was a bit too short to play in defence within a team who lack height already.

Bartley ( a man with his initials stitched on his upholstery on his American car) suffers from the same syndrome as Bendtner imo…lol.

he expect Aw to play him automatically but he could not even make it at Swansea and he has been subsequently moved on to BFC.

  51. tsgh says:

😀 you kylie looking dictator. I hope your Mrs has not sold you passport so you can’t come up here in April?

  52. devilgunner says:

    tsgh says:
    July 25, 2013 at 11:13 am

Gigne………I am with you all the way.

But I still think we need a goalie and a defender and a forward.

    But that is all.

  53. emma says:

    G_G – July 25, 2013 at 10:48 am

Spot on. They wanted a bidding war unfortunately it didn’t work out as Madrid are not interested.

Did anyone watch the madrid v Lyon match yesterday. Ronaldo was used as a striker. Could it be in preparation to get Bale? Heard the guy pulled out of yesterday’s friendly v sunderland b/s of a mysterious injury(Strained buttocks) 😆

  54. tsgh says:

A DM will be a bonus if Aneke, Frimps and Diaby are not going to be ready…Dev

A goalie will be a bonus… the goalie I wanted Scott pretending to be a gooner sold to the chavs. 😛

Begovic will do me… I like his temperament. JC, I liked but then he has howlers even though in the Confed cup he looked very assured.

What the media won’t discuss if why JC was dropped for Green latter on in the season… he also cost QPR points but I guess his performance at the Erms is engraved on many of our fans memory so it is hard to argue there.

If he worth a 3 year contract on over 80k a week? No imho..

  55. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – Thanks for your 11:22 am. I thought I would either be shat on from on high by many or ignored by most. I’m sad to see it is the latter. Most people don’t like their beliefs being challenged or questioned. Oh well, back to the mundane world.

  56. tsgh says:

    mundane world indeed…

But on a serious note, even JW is backtracking on his initial comment on never wanting to leave AFC. As an example, If in 3 years time AW leaves and an unknown manager comes to take over and JW receives a bid from Chelsea or a richer Fulham or QPR he won’t stay if we are not matching his ambition…

  57. tsgh says:

You think so re Frimps… I doubt it. But you never know.

He is home grown and British… a fit Frimps playing like he did against Di Natale in 2011 is better than most DM available on the market.

  58. Xr!s says:

I can’t remember where I read it from but it was that Arsenal have agreed a fee with Freiburg for Ginter

  59. tsgh says:

Rumours are Barca approached AW about his availability last week.

I did not really expect Perez to do us any favours as AW has strung RM along for over 10 years promising to come over when his contract expired with us… I guess the last straw was RM hearing AW was going to renew his contract with us.

  60. Canadian Gooner says:

I dont’t see the club paying anywhere near the £50 million that Liverfool want for Suarez. The best I can see is £40 million plus performance add-ons that would take it up to the £42-43 million range, if only to allow Liverfool the illusion of saving face after their ill-advised statements.

Even if UnReal miss out on Bale and decide to come in for Suarez, I don’t see Arsenal entering in to a bidding war. Especially if they get the likes of Bender/Capoue/Gustavo for DM, Bernard on the wing, Williams for CM and/or Julio Cesar in goal.

  61. Breezy says:

Agree CG, The sooner Liverpool accept that they won’t get 50 M the better for all concerned. As we found out last year it’s pointless trying to keep a player who has his mind set on moving elsewhere and has pretty much burnt his bridges with the fans.

  62. Canadian Gooner says:

emma – This is going to be a big season for a lot of the Young Guns like Frimpong. Some will be given a chance in the Capitol One Cup others will go out on loan so they can get more regular first team games and experience or, in the worst case, to put them in the shop window.

It is not always just about how they perform, but how they compare to who is ahead of them both in terms of age and performance.

AW is usually fairly honest about their prospects. He has tried to buy back some that had left the club. However, most prefer to be a first team regular at a lower team than a sqaddie with us.

  63. Canadian Gooner says:

Xr!s – Does Arsene want to loan him out to Real Betis? Real Betis do want him back on loan. Whether he goes there will depend on how he performs in practice and any of our remaining fexhibition games.

  64. devilgunner says:

The game vs Napoli might see Suarez and Cesar play for Arsenal with Higuain and Reina playing for Napoli.

  65. devilgunner says:

There is also the chances that Gervinho, Chamack and Park may either be spectators or working their ass off somewhere else. 😉

  66. Canadian Gooner says:

Devil – They may all be spectators, but I can’t see either Grevinho or Chamakh working their asses off with us or somewhere else. I haven’t seen anything of Park, so I can’t give an opinion on him.

  67. devilgunner says:

Why dont we keep him at least till January???

Campbell might come in to sub either Giroud or Suarez (if he comes).

Eboue can come to the Emirates………as long as its not in an AFC shirt. I have nothing against the guy, he deserves respect since he never bad mouthed AFC. However, as a player????? that will take a whole article why I would not like him back as a player.

  68. jookz says:

So we have lost higuain to napoli, he has passed his medicals yeah. Now let’s see what’s next for us…. Fingers crossed still

  69. W.A.T.H says:

I don’t think we lost Higuain at all… we agreed a fee which was reasonable then greedy bollox Perez raised the fee to over 30million and we refused to get ripped off so we decided not to follow up. Higuain by all accounts very annoyed and wanted to come to us as he also knew he had no future at RM..!

  70. rico says:

jookz – I have to agree with Wath, we didn’t lose him, Madrid treated us like idiots and thought we’d bite and pay more..

Wrong, we have moved to a different, and better striker, one who I hope we sign…

  71. rico says:

I think that’s a daft move, if he has got his work permit, he should be playing in the PL or Championship this coming season….

  72. Bradster says:

Only plus is that Olympiakos is in chamions league so he’ll get that experience too and hopefully more of a striker role. Not sure if he is meant for the forward left position.

  73. rico says:

I’m not convinced he’ll ever play in an Arsenal shirt in any case….

That’s worrying Cg, those gits are just as likely to go for him now, and Marca are just trying to delay any further bid from us…

  74. W.A.T.H says:

CG, funny how they come out with that rubbish after Suarez states Madrid isn’t his preferred destination as had been reported in the media…! Me thinks they have their nose slightly out of joint…!

  75. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – There are always a lot of mind games being played by the angents, clubs and players; all helped along by the complicity, duplicity, stupidity and sloth of the press. Even well after the fact it is hard, if not downright impossible, to sort out who the real ‘players’ were and what their gameplans were. Ignorance is bliss?

  76. C Hills says:

Yea, wit a little bit of hello. Or is it helo? Why didn’t you take their statement at face value?…:D

  77. Canadian Gooner says:

W.A.T.H – Suarez’s statement could just as well be self-serving rubbish. Who knows?

  78. rico says:

I know Cg, our own manager is one of the best at mind games….

Just hope Suarez and his crew aren’t messing us around in hope that Madrid come calling..

  79. tsgh says:

Cg, that bbc article is a waffle and a half.

The only meaningful thing is how LS behaved at Groningen which I have commented on in the past. Unfortunately, he is the only available striker who I believe can make a difference in our team otherwise I would not even discuss him…

    afternoon all btw.

  80. Canadian Gooner says:

It’s funny, in an ironic way, that ManUre fans are just as angry/exasperated/hostile/pissed off (choose or substitute your choice) as Arsenal fans are about their team’s lack of action in the transfer market. Maybe even moreso the for ManUreites, as they are are more familiar with their team making the big marquee signings.

  81. SD UK says:

With Liverpool asking for £50m makes you feel Man UTD cheated us on RVP.

We should have sold him earlier and get better money for him because RVP is a better player than Suarez.

  82. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – The article lays out the more probable scenarios for the reader to think about. Would you rather the writer just make a guess, or worse, invent a story and report it as fact? That sort of reporting, completely devoid of any journalistic standards, is why so many people are totally disinterested in current events and choose to remain ignorant. Not that many of them require much encouragement; and NO, I am not implying you are one of them.

  83. Canadian Gooner says:

SD – RvP was and is an older player and, all else being equal, will have a lower resale value than Suarez.

  84. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – I fotgot to ask you before, how do you like the possibility of King George VII? I was sure they would choose a traditional Christian name for the new prince.

    Adam will be disappointed.

  85. Canadian Gooner says:

Has anyone seen any explanation/rationale as to why Campbell is going on loan to Olympiakos rather than a Premier League or Championship team?

  86. S2S says:

    Rico,

I need to apologise, I really thought we had Hig in bag and just because Real wanted to sign Suarez, we played dirty. I was wrong.

On to Luis, As long as I know I liked watching Suarez play. For me, he’s the kind of a player who could pick up the ball at half way line and run through defence and score. So, as a footballer I like him but I don’t like unsportsman like behaviour i.e. cheating but then if English can defend Broad then why not Suarez. Cheating for me is unacceptable. Sports is supposed to make you a better person, it is supposed to help you build strong and honest character, teach you to love or hate something with passion but not cheating. Today’s sportsmen are some of the greatest idols for younger kids and I don’t know if sports is going to be this dirty then what would happen to the world.

I’d welcome footballer Suarez if we can exorcise that Satan in him and make him Saint, i.e. S2S.

  87. tsgh says:

Hi CH… not too bad; I am still on leave. I am taking all my time in lieu owed together as leave… I have been working too hard.lol

Cg, there is no doubt the article is well written but to me it is a bit of scare mongering going on from the view point of a scouser or swampie fan. Just my interpretation, I may be wrong of course.

For instance lord sugar-free was venting on twitter about an alleged illegal or unlawful practice because we are informed about a release clause. My question is, is it unlawful for an agent to disclose the details of a release clause to an interested party?

Lille informed every interested party what the buying price of Hazard was. Valencia have just released Soldado’s too…

My view only based on the medias views especially talksports here in the uk is that, most anti-Aw brigadiers thought we would never table a £40M plus deal especially under AW. The fact that we have money to spend will put people like Robson out of employment as they will have one less thing to bash AFc and AW with.

The concensus now is that we already score enough goals so we do not actually need LS; They say we need a CB because our defense is shite. They must be suffering from memory loss because we had the 2nd best defense in the league last year and the best in 2013. Our issues were that we drew too many times because 1 or 2 of our better players were either EPL debutants or failed to turn up in crucial games.

  88. C Hills says:

I never did taste the luxury that is leave while on full-time employment, Ts. Btw, is it in the pundit job description to tell clubs what they need? Ha!

  89. tsgh says:

Hi s2s, no need to apologise. As I said all along AW was never going to bid more than £20m for Hig. Ok, correction, offer the £25m they originally wanted. Hig imho is not worth that amount contrary to what his stats are he could never have led the line any better than what Theo does. Most importantly he has never been a big game player.

I suspect, AW would rather buy a proper winger like Bernard and move Theo to the middle.

  90. C Hills says:

Oh rico, don’t mind my wierd self. I guess the transfer window is doing its bit. For some reason, my emoticons aren’t working as they should so, my mood when posting is not often known. My bad.

  91. tsgh says:

Its their job to be experts to gullible subscribers or viewers. lol

The worst of them is Paul Merson who tried to imply AW had personally injected him with an unknown concoction whilst he was with us. All in the name to sell an autobiography…

  92. Canadian Gooner says:

S2S – I agree with much of what you say. Many give lip service to sportsmanship, but when pressed put winning first. Unfortunately the American mantra of “Winning isn’t everything, it is the only thing” is gaining traction around the world.

  93. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – As we talk of Suarez’s shortcomings, your mention of Merson is timely. A great player in his day, but was and still is a despicable character. Has he or will he ever sober up and shut up?

What do you think of the CB Adil Remi. I see he may be available for a third of the price we were quoted earlier in the year?

  94. C Hills says:

I hope they manage to cross the line between being a journalist and publishing libellous statements, Ts.

  95. tsgh says:

Cg, he was shocking for france last summer.

The issue is will he be willing to be 3rd or 4th choice… I don’t really rate him personally especially coming from La Liga.

  96. S2S says:

    Thnks Rico, Ts,

@CG: Personally, I don’t get it. May be because I am not American. But I think the whole policy and things related with sports need revamping. That is why walking in Cricket is much appreciated. That’s why Di Canio even though is hated by so many gets love from many like me. That’s why Klose didn’t take a penalty where he had fumbled and ref gave it a penalty and he denied taking it and asked ref to change decision. And he even gave the goal back when he had handled the ball. That’s the kind of examples we want in sports and not lying, cheating sorts.

And Rico, Hadin and Broad and even Clarke all are cheats.

  97. S2S says:

    @Rico,

TR7 is like old wine, the older he gets, the better he becomes. Seriously love him. He genuinely comes across as one of the nicest guys. When he was near to end of his contract, he was offered crazy money by Anzhi and he even accepted that for a moment his head was somewhere else and such crazy money can blind you, But, then he remembered, he owed us and stayed to pay his debts. I hope he gets to retire with us at ripe old age.

  98. Canadian Gooner says:

    Five things we could offer Liverfool to sweeten the Suarez bid;

    http://www.talksport.co.uk/magazine/features/130725/five-things-arsenal-need-offer-liverpool-convince-them-sell-suarez-202340

They forgot to include some of the Arsenal’s Highbury House pipeweed that their owner Henry was so fascinated by. It might help him talk more sense than his customary cigars. It would also help Henry, Ayers, Rodgers, et al. mellow out and disapate their anger over losing Suarez.

  99. rico says:

🙂 re the cricketers S2S, are they cheats or just playing by the true rules…

I never walked when I played cricket and I never would today if I still played….

  100. S2S says:

    @Rico,

I always walked when I played except for once when by not walking I won my team the match, but that winning felt really bad so after that I always walked.

Rules have to be made cause we don’t follow simple things I.e. moral norms and by not walking when we know we’re out, we break that moral code.

But just for you, to show you how big a cheat Hadin is,

  101. Canadian Gooner says:

S2S – The current situation in sports, all sports, not just football, is a reflection of society as a whole. Sportsmanship is being or has been replaced by gamesmanship. Many talk of ethics, morals, standards, etc.; but fail to put them into practice when they stand in the way of advancement or success. Alas, I too am found wanting.

I, as do you, lament their decline. Society cannot expect a standard of conduct that it’s members, as a whole or at least a majority, are not willing to adopt and live by. So, we will continue to see more political corruption & scandals, more financial greed & crises, more moral lapses. Things fall apart. Empires/societies rise, decline and fall; to be replaced by something more vigorous. History does have a tendency to repeat itself, just not in exactly the same way.

Enough moralising, or the Most Reverend Kevin will be excommunicating me. Either that or Rico will be sanctioming me. Back to the transfer market.

  102. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – Thanks for your opinion on Rami. I don’t watch mutch of the Primera Liga and as for France, they have been so disappointing of late that I don’t pay them much attention either.

  103. Canadian Gooner says:

Kev – How are you mate? I seem to miss most of your rare visits to the House. Have you reclaimed your collar so you can preach from the wilderness that is the streets of London?

  104. Canadian Gooner says:

As per the Daily Star; Manchester United and Arsenal beaten to wonderkid signing Bernard Malanda-Adje by Fulham. The 18-year-old was an important member of Jupiter pro-league side Zulte Waregem’s push for a Champions League spot, with several big Premier League side keeping tabs since the end of last term.

Arsenal seem to have missed out on or have been beaten to a whole cohort of players I can bearly remember us being interested in, if we ever were at all. More hyperbole, imaginary/made-up stories and outright lies from the fifth estate. If it weren’t that this summer weather was so enjoyable, I be wishing it to be Septmber already.

  105. S2S says:

The worst one are Hig snubbed Arsenal. Wth?

Do, we charge too much money from Media at Emirates or we don’t give them free pies?

  106. Canadian Gooner says:

S2S – I read that earlier and thought that coming from a journo that it was more than a little bit laughable. Talk about the the pot calling the keetle black. However, I don’t subscribe to Mr. Lawton’s basic premise. With the transfer market still relatively quiet the press are desperate for something new to write about. YAWN!!!!

  107. SD UK says:

I know Rico , just thought I should ignore the fact

Wenger should have strengthened the club in 2011/2012 season and not depend on Chamack , the RVP would have stayed.

To tSGH who thinks buying Suarez is a waste, we need a big signing to be sure of crossing the line of winning a trophy,we just need a little bit of quality to win a trophy it shows in the past 8years where we have been in the champions league final, 2 carling cup final, almost winning the PL in 2008 qualifying for concequitive champions league and always on top 4.

We just need a little push to dominate, so we need Suarez

  108. rico says:

    Hello again all..

    I hate the press/media …

Suarez a waste of money, what t**t has said that? Probably the same one who said we never spend big on top quality players….!!

  109. agirlagunner says:

Boo!! Haven’t gone through all the comments, yet, but I did read the Lawton article. Pfft. Rubbish.

He has such a short memory. This is the same person who said that Arsene must delve into his warchest after the season ended.

    Hello, all!

  110. Canadian Gooner says:

Reading the sports pages has become so tedious, that even the rare unintended comical howler of an article doesn’t make it worth while. I was thinking of giving it up, except for the occassional visit to the House to see if we have signed anybody.

Then I had a flash of inspiration. Why not take up a second career as a sports journalist. Just think of all the fun I could have dreaming up stories to confuse, confound, frustrate, irritate, misinform &/or mislead the agents, fans, management, owners &/or players. Alas, I realized I don’t have the the sadistic unprincipaled character to sustain it for any length of time. Well maybe if someone was able to tempt me with enough, make that very very large sums of, money to put it to the test; but that is as likely as me being fielded by Arsenal in the Champions League. There goes another dream.

  111. rico says:

Hi agag – getting excited at the prospect of Suarez signing??

I’d love it, I hate the dippers 😉

  112. Canadian Gooner says:

Sister AGAG – I trust all is well in your tropical island paradise. Are you still resisting to shop for beautiful but unnecessary shoes and clothes?

  113. agirlagunner says:

Not exactly a paradise this time of year, CG. 😛 Yes, resisting the shoe addiction. Can hardly believe it’s me. 😉

Can’t wait for our marquee signing, rico. 🙂

  114. agirlagunner says:

Can’t believe the press, rico. Now that we can spend, our values are questioned. Grrrr.

  115. Canadian Gooner says:

AGAG – “Not exactly a paradise…”. I’ll try and remember that when the rain and snow is making winter uncomfortable here and in the UK.

  116. rico says:

They are twurps agag, in desperate need of a story about us and anything will do I guess. Especially when it’s knocking us..

I pray we get the last laugh….

  117. Canadian Gooner says:

AGAG – Yes, my apologies, I spoke too soon. I can remember in past years when the regulars in Highbury House were concerned for your safety and wondering if you had survived the most recent of natural disaster unscathed.

  118. tsgh says:

SD-Uk I dont remember saying buying Suarez is a waste of money 😉

Hi Agag… did you see the video of your boy OG12 in his white y-fronts? lol

  119. agirlagunner says:

No worries, CG. In any case, it’s south of the Phils where the best beaches are, Manila is a bit of a nightmare. El Nido, Coron, Boracay, Panglao, Calaguas… 🙂 🙂

  120. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – I think we will have the last laugh this transfer window. With a little luck and a few good transfers, that might be enough to sustain us this season.

I see the club have signed a few more lucrative? commercial deals. This time next year we may have another large bankroll burning a hole in Arsene’s pocket.

  121. tsgh says:

Cg, on Rami, he was oddly ahead of Koz until recently because of Didier Deschamps being anti AW and AFC.

  122. rico says:

So can I agag, poor Kev 😉

Cg, I truly believe that 4 good transfers will see us truly challenging top spot in the PL and at least the CO Cup…

  123. Canadian Gooner says:

This is an excerpt from an article I thought had a bit of pointed humour (see last sentence).

“…We could end up with a scenario where by Arsenal and Suarez agree terms, but those terms mean nothing because Liverpool refuse the bid. The bottom line is that if this scenario unfolded it would be tantamount to contractually permitted tapping up, and if Suarez had agreed a deal with Arsenal his previous comments have shown that he would be determined to push that deal through.

This would mean that all hell would break loose and that in the end, Liverpool could be cornered in to selling Suarez for less than the £50m valuation they recently placed on him. So perhaps the question John W Henry should be tweeting is what the hell were we smoking when we agreed to that clause?…”

  124. C Hills says:

    Evening all.

CG 4:58, fans have a part in the win at all cost problem. We do not hate our players for cheating. PV04 isn’t disliked by arsenal fans for seeing red all the time. One of the barca palyers once said that it was difficult to eat at a restaurant or go out when they lost; will the fans therefore hate Cookies, Pedro and Alves for diving?

    Home, sweet home.

  125. tsgh says:

    CH, cg… re 7:50pm

It is well documented that the spanish and local governments in spain introduce unpopular laws such as increase in tax and pension age etc after Spain or Barcelona have won something major.

    A strategic diversion plan…

  126. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – Your comment reminds me of one about Sir Anal Fergusmoan and other managers, possibly Arsene in particular. If Sir Alex is being nice to you, it is because he doesn’t consider your club a threat. Let us hope and pray Arsenal will be a threat to all the clubs in the Premier and Champions Leagues this season and for many more to come.

  127. rico says:

Cg, I’m not convinced that really was Henry on twitter…

Anyway, I am off for the day, you all have a good evening/night/day, wherever you are..

    Tomorrow is another day…

    Night all……

  128. Canadian Gooner says:

Rumour has it liverfool are looking for a Suarez replacement.

“With speculation mounting over the Uruguayan international’s future, Anfield bosses have identified Udinese’s Colombian starlet Luis Muriel as a player who could replace him.

Saurez has won his battle with Liverpool, who will finally let him have transfer talks with Arsenal, after they put forward a £40m plus £1 bid, triggering a clause that allows him to talk to interested clubs.”

  129. C Hills says:

    Ginge, eh. I’m still laughing.

AGAG, I’ve been looking all over for you. Hullo.

    Night rico.

  130. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – Apparently it was John Henry’s Twitter account. Whether he posted it is another matter.

Good night good lady and thank you for indulging me and my comments.

  131. tsgh says:

    night Rico…

The rumour mill has gone very quiet.

Ch, are you watching the game tomorrow morning?

  132. tsgh says:

Some of the South American football managers look like they should be running a coca plantation 😉

  133. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – One good thing that has come out of Europe’s, and especially Spain’s, financial crisis is a levelling of the playing field due to Spain’s surtax on high earners. A few years ago Arsenal would have to offer a 50% wage premium over Spanish clubs, due to Spain’s then preferential tax structure, to give a player the same after tax income.

  134. tsgh says:

    cheeky badger… 🙂 CH

You are right there Cg, 30% extra for EU residents/nationals. Ozil is a prime example…

On the order had the 2 bell-ends in Spain will still have the edge because they still own the rights to TV rights. They get £150M each even before they start to share the money available to other teams.

  135. tsgh says:

Joe the former $hitty striker bought by Hughes is even more useless in south america. What a waste of £27M

  136. C Hills says:

Hahaha Ginge. Just being my honest self. I miss watching arsenal though.
    Qataris(?) aren’t complaining, are they?

  137. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – They don’t share. Each club negotiates their own deal with the TV networks. Farcelona and UnReal are first to the trough and the rest are left to fight for the leftovers.

If, as and when the those two get what they deserve is coming to them, I don’t think anyone else will feel the least bit of remorse for them. UnReal have had support from the Franco regime, the royal family and the the Madrid city government. They have been first to the trough for so long, they seem to think it is a God given right. I can’t wait to be able to chant “Oh how the mighty have fallen”. I may even shed a few crocodile tears, no I won’t.

  138. Canadian Gooner says:

Apparently Joe was the hero in Atletico Mineiro’s win in the Copa Libertadores (sp.?).

  139. Canadian Gooner says:

Thanks for the banter Ginge. I’m of for the day. I’ve got to get my groceries for the week.

Have a great evening/day fellow Gooners.

    Keep the Faith!

  140. C Hills says:

What exactly are the other clubs doing to rectify the situation? Its not as if Farca ands Unreal can play against themselves every week. Instead, you have players going on strike because of unpaid wages. Pathetic.

  141. C Hills says:

Yea but, a goat will always fight back when it is up against a wall and an assailant (want of a better word). Not that I am calling them goats, mind you…:/

  142. C Hills says:

Night Ginge. Sorry I couldn’t reply earlier, my internet connection is at 1 teraflop(s) per light year.

  143. allezkev says:

Sorry Canuck… I was working and only had a brief time to dip in and comment…

I am very well thanks, I trust you and yours are likewise?
I have a bit of shit to sort out, but once that is done I shall be on HH more often..
Then I can give you plenty of colonial jibes full-time.. 🙂

  144. tsgh says:

    Morning Rico,
    Morning all,

I do not believe the reports but I expect nothing honorable from a player who faked hamstring injuries during crucial stages of his last 2.5 seasons with us.

    I blame Micko though 😛

  145. potter says:

Monaco £ 85 million for Ronaldo apparently. Money for Bale and Money for the totts to boost their squad.

  146. potter says:

tsgh :- Had problems posting all of yesterday on my lap top but desk top so far O.K. this morning.

  147. tsgh says:

Potter- strangely, I can read messages from my laptop but I can only post from a desk top.

    Yes Rico… wordpress.

There was me thinking Rico has suspended my account just in time so I can’t say Theo is almost as bad as Gerv and Ramsey is like Zidane… 😛

  148. tsgh says:

Aaron is a gent… he does not do headbutts at least not yet 🙂

On a serious note I am also concerned about the bad smell that won’t leave i.e CF04

  149. tsgh says:

The papers are quoting the invisible and imaginary friends of Cesc who think CF04 is Old Toilette bound…

    Morning CH

  150. potter says:

Just as someone in the Suarez camp has dropped the willingness of a move to us, it seems there is a mole in Barca doing the same for Cesc and Utd.

  151. tsgh says:

Potter have you forgotten about the mole called Darren Dein who is the bridgew between Cesc and Judas Pursey…

  152. rico says:

    Morning Ch..

Yes ts, that does concern me too, yet a few Barca players have said he’s going nowhere.

Maybe Moyes is making things up to get fans onside….

  153. devilgunner says:

Good Morning Lady, Sir, Gentlemen and Ladies.

Do you honestly believe all the crap that comes from the fictitious and imaginary world that journalists seem to live in???

The brain of some journous seem to lie in the area just behind their arse, seeing they spew shit all the time.

  154. Canadian Gooner says:

Ah! The voice from the wilderness that are the mean streats of London.

Kev – We await yor return like like the parents of the prodigal son.

  155. tsgh says:

    😀 Dev good morning too…

All those sports journos or media outlet have to do is contact Malaga gooner for hilarious rumours…

CH… I thought you had basque Dna but now your are referring to your bavarian roots?

  156. C Hills says:

Yea Potter but, unlike Suarez who said he felt flattered by arsenal’s interest, cesc hasn’t said anything to show he likes to go there. We could interprete that as we choose. Have I ever mentioned that I hate the transfer window?

    Morning Kev.

  157. Canadian Gooner says:

Devil – And here’s me thinking that journos’ gastro intestinal tracts worked in the opposite direction of us mere mortals.

  158. devilgunner says:

    Diaby will return he said!!!!

    Return to where????

    To the pitch????

    To innocence???

To his real love….the spuddies (now that would be a coup….sell him to them for 5 million)

Ahhhh yes. He will return. To the treatment table after two weeks away from it.

How are you Kev my friend???

  159. allezkev says:

Morning Coach, hope you are well.
    Morning Canuck, Ginge, CH….

Busy today, so I’ll see you Gooners in a bit..

  160. devilgunner says:

Ahhh Kev. Not that well today mate. My back has gone today. lower back muscles are making me grit my teeth and work my day to the pain barrier. Good thing the little one is with me otherwise I will be swearing to high heavens.

  161. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the good Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence. Pardon my lapse of manners in not wishing everyone a good morning earlier.

Leave your comment.
