Which is your favourite NLD?

Morning all.

It’s a big night for Arsenal’s women as they need a win if they’re to advance in the Champions League. There’s no away goals rule so a good old 1-0 to the Arsenal would be enough. Good luck to them.

On the mens side, it’s all about injuries and if reports in the media are to be believed, Mikel Arteta is going to have to juggle his squad and square pegs might be seen filling round holes. The Mirror reckon up to seven players could be missing but as we all know, there’s nothing quite like a negative headline to front their back pages. I’m sure they love them as much as we hate them.

No Zinchenko in that little group so I’m hoping the photographer was told not to capture him on film in order to confuse Conte. Lol

Arsenal v Totts has seen some cracking battles over the years which up until recent years, usually ended with the red and white team coming out on top. Players from both sides of north London have switched clubs in the past which often caused a few ripples of discontent amongst fans. Harry Kane left Arsenal as a kid, Sol Campbell did the opposite and only one of the two has medals because of it. Arsene Wenger signing Campbell must still be one of the free transfers of all time, if not the best. He’s certainly Arsenal’s in my opinion.

Other players who’ve made the switch:

Centre-back William Young signed for Totts in 1975 at the age of 23. He stayed for two seasons before switching colours. Pat Jennings went from Totts to Arsenal and then back to Totts when he was preparing for retirement. Lol

William Gallas, Emanuel Adebayor and David Bentley went from Arsenal to Totts a few years ago but none really had much to shout about at the time. Bentley perhaps enjoyed his goal against us in 2008.

Anyway, just for a bit of fun, what’s been your favourite north London Derby at either Highbury or The Emirates? My guess it’ll be from our Highbury years but can’t think why.

See you in the comments.

My favourite NLD was, without doubt, Monday May 3rd 1971 at White Hart Lane. The night we won the First Division title. before completing the double on the following Saturday afternoon at Wembley. I was there.

Those 5-2 wins were good fun!

The ’93 FA Cup semi. A tense game, but a great result and revenge for the defeat in ’91. Donkey won the Derby.

Bet the atmosphere was great in ’71 Cicero? A bit before my arrival on this lump of rock.

It was amazing Pete, everybody just turned up and got on the end of a queue, there was no attempt at segregating the fans as far as I could tell. After the game we went to a pub just down the road, the fans were all mixed in together and everybody was enjoying themselves. Not a hint of trouble before, during or after the match.

    Indeed Rico.

I last went to a game at WHL when Kanu scored his amazing goal. It was complete chaos afterwards all the way back to Seven Sisters tube. Decided that it wasn’t worth the hassle going to that fixture after that. Haven’t changed my opinion as I hear it’s as bad at the new stadium as it was at the old one.

It was a similar situation at the Cup Final, before the game I walked into The Greyhound (I think that was the name of the pub very close to the stadium) inside it was a mass of Liverpool fans, they saw my Arsenal scarf laughed and said “your lot are in the other bar”. No problem.

The injury suffered by Beth Mead looked serious. She was clearly upset as she was taken off the pitch. If she sustained a concussion she’ll be sidelined for quite a while.

Never really had much bother with the Liverpool fans. Spurs on the other hand…

Was in a bar in Islington some years back when a load of Spurs idiots tried to barge in and ransack the place. A combination of a group of young lads and the audience from the comedy club upstairs held them at bay until the boys in blue arrived and started arresting the perpetrators.

I remember one Spurs fan handcuffed outside protesting his innocence. He was right at the front of the fighting. In his 50s I reckon. I hope he got a nice big fine for his embarrassing performance.

    Idiots, Bullies and Cowards.
