What’s the point of the ‘spend some f*****g money’ chants?

Morning all.

The away fans turned on Arsene Wenger after Saturday evenings match against Leicester ended with a boring draw. ‘Spend some f*****g money’ the fans sang. When that stopped ‘We want Wenger out, say we want Wenger out’ followed and as one of the travelling fans reportedly told The Mirror, that’s the first time the away fans have audibly gone after Arsene Wenger.

Sad times for the club, a man who breezed into Arsenal, bringing with him a wonderful style of football and during his early reign, some wonderful players too. Success soon followed. But that was all a long time ago now and the man once respected and cheered by most, has turned those same fans against him and he’s only got himself to blame.

Moving to The Emirates would make Arsenal competitive we were told, the words we’d be able to challenge the biggest and best clubs around the world were muttered but all the time, we knew that as the hefty debts of the stadium had to be repaid, we’d have to be patient as money would be tight. Fine and understandable.

The weight of that debt has been lifted, the clubs financial reports clarify that and at this moment in time, there’s something like £200-250 million sat in the AFC bank. We fans are not stupid, we know the owner/board aren’t going to hand that entire amount to Wenger and I doubt many of us would expect them too but there was certainly enough money available to add 2/3 top players during this summers transfer window yet here we are, just nine days to go and the club still haven’t signed a striker or central defender. Wenger then tells us that he took a risk playing Lauren Koscielny on Saturday. Apparently he has a back injury… Great management eh!

As much as he needs to sign at least two players before the 31st August, until he changes his approach to the game, little will change and people of his age, seldom change. He might manage to get us into the top four once again but that’ll pretty much it imo.

This should have been the summer of change, out with the hangers on and in with new blood and fresh ideas but no, it’s all been a bit too familiar to years gone by.

Stan Kroenke and the board could give Arsene Wenger £200 million to spend, but, I don’t think he’d know what to do with it or what to do with the players he did buy. After all, he doesn’t seem to be able to spend what he does have or do something different with the players he does have…

Watford away this Saturday and if something doesn’t happen before then, I suspect those chants Wenger heard at Leicester will be a lot louder.

But by then it might be too late, certainly for Arsene Wenger because the Arsenal fans won’t hush just because the transfer window closes…

Stick a broom stick up their arse ????????????????

    Which end first ?

Regarding ex players , I am told that he wants the team to hang on his every word , he even shut Pat Rice up when he told the defence that it wasn’t playing good enough at half time in one match. He only wants his own thoughts to be paramount with no input from anyone that might have better ideas.
You won’t get the club in the supporters hands even the scheme where the club agreed to release some shares ” The fan share ” got gobbled up by Kroenke and disbanded and then he introduced question vetting before shareholder meetings to avoid awkward ones.
The boardroom is run like a third world dictatorship with the junta stomping all over any voice that dares to speak out on anything but the party line.

A bad result against Watford and the match against Southampton will be more than just toxic. I would not want to take a kid to it as there will quite likely be hand to hand stuff in the stadium. We have already seen scuffles between the various groups and it will get worse as the problem increases. Whether it’s right or wrong the factions are getting larger, more entrenched and more vocal. If you are going keep your wits about you, the pattern of the way things were in Avenell Road around Terry Neill’s time are being repeated and it got nasty then too.

  2. Mabo says:

Wenger is the same guy whose gone throughout this current window without buying what the team needs to progress and improve.

Game against Leicester the Arsenal didn’t even attack. I don’t know if Sanchez took a shot at goal or on target. Wenger has killed Arsenal that was such a boring game with no direction or tactics

  3. Wath says:

Potter, the thing was with the Neill and Howe Avenell Rd uprisings everyone was of the same mind set so things got done action was taken and due to that the Club took notice. Direct action these days isn’t as easy isn’t helped by the fractious nature of the fan base and of course the way the club dictatorship tries to stamp out any dissent makes it all the more difficult as well but i think things are coming to a head and feelings are running so high it’s inevitable that it’s going to blow up very soon….! Amazing that the manager staff and Club execs are so far removed from how the fans truly feel.

  4. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

Fine post boss…..but the reality is depressing isn’t it??

Potter….either end of the broom stick will do…depending on the arse hole.

With regards the shares yeah its reality what you said….but I would be a very happy chappy if the shares were owned by the supporters and no one had more than 5 to 8 % shares in the club. Difficult I know but why not.

  5. potter says:

As the club owns all the land around the stadium , any protest on the steps by the Armoury and and the upper concourse are likely to be met with force and that would spark things off. It would have to be in the Gillespie road area which is publicly owned . I have not heard anything about official fan group protests yet but like you I can see similarities between not only the Neill incident but that of Billy Wright’s as well.

  6. Wath says:

The other thing that’s relevant Potter is that when things got lively in Avenell Rd the Club knew all about it, there was no hiding as the Boardroom was right there so “everyone” was well aware of what was going on as the anger was also directed at them…. You could now have mass action going on outside the ground and they would be oblivious to it as they would all be wrapped up in their little cocoon and be able to ignore any and all calls for action to be taken, the only thing that would happen in those outside would face arrest and banning orders…! The media would see and hear BUT for dissent to work it has to affect the powers that be hence it has to happen in the ground but then you’re back to the problem of arrest and banning orders…! The board have it pretty safe as very little can be directed at them that’s effective and public…!

  7. Le Coq Monster says:

    Thanks Rico !.

“I think you’re being harsh on him, he’s got 600 employees to think about…..”……………….I think you`re exaggerating, Lee !………………….it`s only 599 as Campbell has gone on loan !

  8. Wavy says:

Don’t wish to trivialise the Arsenal situation, with Wenger in control and a sect that want rid of him, but he just doesn’t seem to listen or even understand the nature of what ‘crimes’ he has committed or much less know how to change his ‘vision’! He’s stubborn and he’s stuck. Now compare his blinkered no plan, no outcome aims or targets, beyond a 4th place finish, with that of the current Labour Party and its woes with Corbyn. As a leader he seems pretty clueless and unfocused but he has an enormous grassroots following. Doesn’t make him a leader. He has the charisma of a dead plaice! He’s not made of the right stuff at all! PHW? Wenger’s leadership qualities have seem to have left him, migrates, gone, and he too, is fast becoming a figure of fun. The butt of many a good failure jibe. AND the cap fits!

In both these cases how it all pans out we shall have to wait and see, more half thought but deeply believed views on what is needed both at the football club and also the labour club. But still no dynamic move or change of direction. We continue to get the same old, same old.

Sadly neither of these dinosaurs are representative of what the ‘modern’ world sees as being the answer to the ‘future’. But worse than that neither of them will listen to any well intentioned advice from any would be Samaritan but when confronted with opposition the ‘adviser’ is summarily dismissed!
Vieiera is right the whole back room staff needs rattling and new employees with a passion for the club need to be drafted in asap.

This is not going to end well at the Emirates or at Labour hq. Not until the two ‘chefs de mission’ are dumped in the long grass.

Sad but true, I think. Sorry if I’ve offended any members’ personal views about either one of the respective 67 year olds! But I’m sure I’m right!

  9. allezkev says:

I can fully understand how the fans feel, but it still makes me feel uncomfortable…

I’ll be amazed if Wenger lasts beyond this season, so let’s hope that Gazides and Co are being proactive in terms of making contact with future managers’ representatives and seeing how the land lays…

The media are all cnuts, so I’m not going to enjoy the next few months…

  10. scottfromoz says:

Just saw Citeh v Stoke highlights.
Stoke give away a penalty for something Giroud cops literally every time a set piece takes place, then Stoke fail to get one for something that wa a lose enough to assault.
Is the agenda being set already?
Incredible, and yes, I know plenty are happy to say officials and their piss poor decisions shouldn’t be a factor, but guess what?
Leicester getting 15 last season and us getting 2 suggests they are.
    Wenger aside.
    Transfers aside.
    Tactics aside.
    Our guys soft underbelly aside.
This IS a factor and it hurts us every year.

  11. Lee says:

The media may be all cnuts BUT why season after season give them ammunition?

Always have a comment about another club’s business ?

Do a Fergie and get Bouldy to do the pressers??

  12. Lee says:

Apart from our last game at Leicester Scott, where Coq should of been sent off and they had 2 fairly good penalty shouts…

  13. scottfromoz says:

Lee, I haven’t seen the game, and very, very few highlights, but all your point does is magnifies mine…..officials have a massive influence in games and they shouldn’t.
Still, I’d say another 30-40 50/50 calls in our favour, should see us balance the last few seasons ledger 🙂

  14. Le Coq Monster says:

Cant see Gazidis and Co being proactive with Wenger`s replacement, Kev !……………it would be impossible to keep secret and the media would be all over it.
Wenger will have a say in his replacement and he will hit us with a curve ball !……….someone like Sanogo !……….The French Postman with the ability of a French Letter !.

  15. potter says:

If you think back to the black scarf march 2012 .
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBlDLmwXwJo

As you can see towards the end the march was prevented from getting to the stadium and dissipated on the ” Bear Roundabout ” at this point the club announced to the media that only about 500 people were involved. The film above shows clearly that that was a total fabrication . The problem still exists though any protest can only be on public land and as I see it out side Highbury House and back to the tube station is the only place.

  16. scottfromoz says:

I agree Wenger should shut up when some tool asks a loaded question.
I mean, they call him arrogant either way, so any as well be arrogant and offer them little else, I say.
Kev, it’ll be interesting, if it happens.

  17. franc ole says:

Wenger then tells us that he took a risk playing Lauren Koscielny on Saturday. Apparently he has a back injury… Great management eh!

  18. scottfromoz says:

Franc, I seriously doubt any PL club ever starts a game with every single player fully fit and healthy.
Another example of Arsene speaking when he shouldn’t, though.

  19. Wath says:

Potter, yep am with you on how once the march got to Bear roundabout it was met with “thou shalt not pass” but there will be 2 things that will/could happen, planned dissent, marches etc etc and the other effect could be spontaneous action that could be at the end of a game inside the stadium as that’s the only place the Board will hear and see whats going on, problem there will be as usual it will be brushed off as merely a small minority and nothing to do with the general majority of feelings in the fan base… truly head up arses time from the board but that’s one of their strong points..!

  20. rico says:

I’d imagine that a successful businessman such as Kroenke would be quite aware of what’s happening with his investment, if he doesn’t watch what’s going on, someone else will do on his behalf. Of that I’m sure…

  21. Wavy says:

Perhaps Scott, but if he did that wouldn’t it encourage the ‘Pelegrini’ effect that citeh suffered last year. We wouldn’t even be close to the 4th place trophy! So probably not the best thing he could do in the world.

Gazidis, preparing for the managers empty seat, mmmm! I have a feeling he might have sent out feelers last year in Koemann’s direction. They were waiting for Wenger to state that he would retire, but he didn’t! Koeman had by that time told Shampton that he wasn’t going to extend his contract, I believe in readiness for the call from Arsenal……it didn’t come because the fallen silver haired Angel ‘changed his mind’ and stayed. Whether that was because he couldn’t bear the thought of another person running his ‘club, or thought that maybe retirement was not for him or that he would just shaft the prospective incomer, ot of devilment. But what he didn’t consider was that he gave himself another year to fail abjectly or succeed! The latter was never really a goer, was it?
And now we find ourselves in the soft and smelly!

  22. scottfromoz says:

Wavy, I don’t think so, personally.
Pellegrini had the fans onside, Wenger doesn’t.
Either way, anything must be better than the frustration building up any more amongs fans.

  23. potter says:

I understand the spend some money faction but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I would have more sympathy with a protest group along the lines of change the way your playing . Sure spend money but on what you need , if you want a winger go get one. If it’s a centre back or centre forward or both then go and identify them and enter the market with a positive attitude. Already we are watching the remodeling of Sanchez , we have tried it with Walcott didn’t work. If you were a Lacazette , would you come to a club that seemed lukewarm to buying you or if we had gone in strongly with a positive bid would you feel that this club really want me I’m joining. No wonder players don’t want to come we don’t make them feel that the manager really rates them.

  24. rico says:

    Phew Scott. lol

Said the same in a post the other day Potter. They way we try and do deals will hardly make them feel wanted….. Same today, he hasn’t got a clue what to with those he does have..

  25. Wavy says:

But Potter, that’s the conundrum. The manager does NOT really rate some of the players he is ostensibly ,in, for. Lacklustre is not better the Giroud, from he were he would be the French no. 9, and he’s not! €50m for him even I can see why Wenger suck his teeth and say non! However, the question is, is Akpom better than Lackability? Wenger thinks he probably is but not at €50m! So he sticks with what he’s already got, and the fans go hungry!

And so it goes on and on and on………….

  26. Hell Raising Devil says:

The situation atm is like my missus telling me that we have half a million in the bank and still serves me bread and water for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And if I want a snack……there is the bread and water.

  27. Lee says:

“All right… all right… but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order… what has Wenger done for us?”

    Err Sanogo?? #teamsanogo!

  28. allezkev says:

You may think that Cornwall, but the Eddie Howe rumours show the opposite…
I also think that Koeman took his time in deciding to take over Everton, as there was obviously contact with him regarding the Arsenal job.

I think those at the club may revisit the Koeman option despite him only being at Goodison Park for a year, it it will be by next summer…

Rico, I haven’t been to the Kroenke Dome this season and I’ve had to turn down a Southampton ticket for work reasons, but from what I’ve heard the atmosphere is awful and will only get worse regardless of the next few results…

Wrnger has lost the majority of the fan base in this country now and whatever the support overseas or online it’s the fans in good old Blighty that will have the major effect on the outcome of the managers position…

  29. Lee says:

The Gunners boss infuriated fans at the weekend by saying paying his staff comes before signing new players.

He said: “What matters to me is when you have a club with 600 employees you have the money to pay them at the end of the month.”

It’s prompted one fan – who also works in the club shop – to quit their job over the comments.

In a letter written to Jason Savage, a retail store manager at Arsenal, the employee writes: “Please accept this letter of resignation.

“I am an avid fan for the club and it is with great regret to inform you have I resigning from the job working for Arsenal Football Club. Please accepted this 2 weeks notice. My last day will be 9.09.2016.

“I have enjoyed my 2 years working in the Arsenal store. As a fan, it has been a dream working for the club I love.

“My decision for leaving is due to Mr. Arsene Wenger’s comments about staff after the recent draw against Leicester City. To blame having to pay the 600 people working at Arsenal Football Club for not buying a player is a disgrace.

“I earn £7.20p.h. and work 37.5 hours a week. I get paid £270 so over 52 weeks that is £14,040 a year. Theo Walcott earns 10x’s that a week.

“Hopefully with my wage off the clubs wage bill, it will free up the cash for Mr Wenger to buy more players.

“I no longer wish to be a burden at this club.”

    Funny.

  30. Kk says:

    Aftermoan all,
Think the 600 comment from wenger says all about how the man thinks and where his priorities are.
In his logic he is happy to take his 8 million a year whilst fleecing all those season tickets holders and other attendees at the Emirates, plus millions of across the globe who also pay top dollar for TV fees and merchandise by serving them crap football and nauseous interviews and cleaches. .mental strength cohesion and seriousness!!
Also wasting fortunes paying injured and substandard players. .and sanago.
It was cringeworthy to see our captin from last year jumping in joy celebrating city’s goals..
Why did he keep him last year is beyond joke. .

  31. kelsey says:

Meanwhile, the long-running Shkodran Mustafi saga seems to have hit another snag. After rumours emerged that the two parties had finally agreed on a fee for the German international, Valencia now appear to be sticking to their guns, as the Daily Mirror reports they are only prepared to sell the player for 50 million Euros, the equivalent to roughly £43.23 million.

    Surprise surprise and Good Afternoon

  32. kelsey says:

Anyone see Merson on Sky Sports over the weekend.I thought he was going to burst,he cares for the club.2 decent defenders in 8 years in Campbell and Kos .

We can rant and rave all day long and it seems on purpose that Wenger just can’t put a deal together whilst all the other really big clubs have done practically all their business, quickly and early.
More money than ever, then add TV money and then add all the players we have offloaded.

You have to be desiive these days moreso than ever in football as it’s huge business.

Do you really think we are a draw just because we might as best scrape into the knockout stage of the CL.

RvP was right,so who will be the next to leave of the star players we have got.it’s not always about money,
When he knew on friday that an already depleted defence had an injury scare with kos, he still plays him as he has done with others before him, because he has no adequate back up.

There are absolutely no excuses for anything he does and as Rico says people don’t change their ways dramatically or not at all at a certain age.

Kroenke will do nothing and we will not be able to ride our luck season after season.

I wish he would walk now even if it meant a bad season.Who to replace him might be premature but we just can’t go on like this, can we ?

  33. kelsey says:

Apparentlly the Home Office has refused to grant Takuma Asano a work permit.Blast that’s another 6 dozen shirts we could have sold.

  34. Hell Raising Devil says:

Wake up and smell the coffee you lot………This situation is reminiscent of GG’s later days.

I feel that the haggling over transfer fees is simply…..how much someone can make from the transfer fee……that is why transfers take so long. if that someone does not get the percentage then the transfer does not happen.

    use your imagination.

who is responsible for the sole running of the club???

answers on a post card…..and since the answer is obvious the winner will only get Eur1 for the stamp

  35. Lee says:

Well whoever is in charge of transfers or salaries at Arsenal doesn’t mind us having nearly a £200m annual salary bill do they? Maybe if we didn’t pay exorbitant salaries to shit/injury prone players we could be more aggressive in the transfer market……….. just a thought!

  36. Wath says:

Don’t be daft Lee that’s way to sensible and then that means the poor not so good players will only earn 10/15 grand a week and we’d have to pay quality players 200k a week… that’s just not fair…
    Apparently…!

  37. bradster says:

    Hi all,

What about an offer for Jones. He seems similar to Merts in reading the game, big, strong and English.
Shouldn’t cost too much either, only Maurinho to deal with.

  38. potter says:

Wouldn’t fit his communist /socialist/E.U. ideals , everyone should benefit from the states income providing that those who can afford it pay for it. As long as of course the leader earns more than anyone else.

  39. Wavy says:

If the players would just go back to the fixed wage agreement of, say, £10 pw. We’d be quids in and have a magnificant squad all highly motivated to EARN their win bonuses! Or am I being just too fanciful?

  40. Joaquim Moreira says:

    afternoon all
Who saw the M.city play with the same players last year, are impressed with the new “tactical culture,” joy to play and efficiency in their game.
The other coaches had legacy, but Guardiola surpasses everything and puts with the same players, a new super team.
About Arsenal: we are in a bad situation in all senses. I had the perception and put a post some time ago about the same: lack of confidence, lack of unity, there is no empathy with the fans, etc.
Have you noticed that if something happens in the field, as in many teams, we see other players to protect theirs fellows (with rightly or wrongly), in Arsenal is every man for himself?

  41. Bradster says:

I totally agree with Wavy. Pay to play and when you perform. It’s like most of our players are medically boarded.

  42. potter says:

Coypus were vegetarian and got into trouble for eating their way into the sugar beet industry. They had their uses by eating their natural food of bull rushes they kept the broads clear at very little cost. However as Tate and Lyle had more clout they were purged.
Otters however their primary food were eels and once introduced to the broads they wiped out the eel population fairly rapidly. Natural selection meant that where there was little food left they reduced in numbers and eventually died out. Natural England’s right hand decided that as the eel population having been reduced drastically needed replacing and restocked the broads. After a few years however the Left hand thought that it would be nice to have the nice little furry creatures and allowed the broads to be replenished with them and a farm in Suffolk when it had it’s funding withdrawn let them go back into the Wensum. Nett result all the restocked Eels are being eaten. .
Don’t know why I wrote all of this as it has nothing to do with The Arsenal apart from it being another case of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing.

  43. Lee says:

I won’t ask you about the (American) mink being set free from the fur farms as it’ll distract you from all the signings that are happening at The Arsenal!

These animals, descendants from mink that escaped or were intentionally released from fur farms, are an ‘alien’ species and do not fit properly into Norfolk’s ecology. The American mink is a very undesirable resident in Norfolk and certainly not to be encouraged; in fact, due to the damage the animal can cause to native wildlife, especially species such as the water vole, the Norfolk Biodiversity Partnership is undertaking ongoing control programmes in mid-Norfolk and the Broads. Gamekeepers also undertake mink control in order to reduce predation of pheasants and partridge, all of which contributes to the control of this predator.

Mink also hunt water birds, such as moorhen and ducks, and a noticeable decline in numbers of birds may indicate that mink are in the area. Mink are aggressive predators and will overkill prey. They can cause significant damage to housed or penned game birds or poultry by killing large numbers, far more than they can eat, and they may also damage fish stocks.

Mink also predate the endangered water vole. One reason that mink cause such a problem for the species is that female and young mink are small and agile enough to follow a water vole into its burrow.

It used to be thought that mink displaced otters and were part of the reason for the otters’ decline. However, this is now thought not to be true, and although there is evidence that sometimes otters will actually kill mink, mink and otters co-exist throughout Norfolk….

  44. potter says:

Plan D :- Get his left hand to buy Holding for £ 10 million , get the plaudits for making a resale profit and then get his right hand to buy him back for £ 50 million so that we can all get exited by a high priced qualitee signing. This apart from shutting everyone up gets to disprove my left hand right hand theory.

Lee I agree about the mink along with the otter they are depleting the fish stocks which is not popular with the visiting fishing fraternity which keeps so many of the small guest houses around here going.

  45. Hell Raising Devil says:

Why not get Evans and Jones??? 30mill between them combined. Homegrown. One is English. Both know the league. both need no time to settle down. both are over 6 ft tall. And both are bruisers and know how to play against Stokes, WBAs, Sunderlands, and the northern hardies.

  46. allezkev says:

Mourinho would never sell Jones to Arsenal, even if he didn’t want him anymore.

Evans is a definite possibility I reckon, although if Holding carries on as he is it wouldn’t surprise me to see Wenger not do anymore business this window….

  47. allezkev says:

Yeah, that’s a possibility Rico, I’m quite warming to the prospect of Evans, I might be mistaken but I think he was playing left-back for West Brom last weekend…

  48. Hell Raising Devil says:

Geezzzz……his price has rocketed once AW seemed interested.

I doubt whether AW will suffer from impotence. I think every time he is interested in his dick all he needs is to say it….It will immediately rise higher. lol

  49. Hell Raising Devil says:

imo whether is Mustafi, Evans or whoever it is going to be….I feel that he will be Kos’ eventual replacement.

Holding will hold on to his position…..Gabriel and Mertesacker and Chambers will give him the occasional rest…….but he is there to stay.

  50. Hell Raising Devil says:

Kos will need to be rested frequently Rico. Holding has already replaced Merts. It was two games from him, 2nd game was better than the 1st….against Watford he will increase his experience. Esp if he has Kos beside him.

tbh……I am satisfied with this setup in the defensive dept…..

    Cech
    Bellerin, Holding, Kos, Nacho
    Xhaka, Coquelin

Its what happens with the other 4 positions which has me worried. Campbell has left….so that leaves Alexis, Theo, Ox and Iwobi for the flanks with Cazorla/Ozil/Aaron in the hole behind Ollie

but who gets to play is up in the air.

  51. rico says:

Oh well, we’ll see Devil… Who knows what goes on in Wengers mind, in fact there’s little point in guessing. After all, he hadn’t even signed a central defender yet…. I doubt he will either..

  52. frednerk says:

I’ve always took Arsene to be a
    proud man..
So I am surprised how he blamed
the media for our fans slagging him down
    saturday night.
Once again he try’s to wiggle out of
    the truth…..
How can he cock-a-deaf’un to that.

Last week we had the mob behind
the dugout giving him dogs abuse
    and now the away mob.
Then a worker gave his notice in
so not to take any blame for the
    wage bill…

I can only think now the only
    Hitman we might see at
    The Emirates is someone carrying
    a Violin case.
No way he looks like walking now.

  53. Micko says:

Keep hearing Chambers being mentioned as a centre back, he’s not, he a right back who keeps getting pulled from pillar to post by a manager who ain’t got a clue.

Kev, snap out of it !

  54. Lee says:

£25m for Evans, you’ve got to be kidding me? Nicely delayed in getting our new players in Arsene, your plan seems to be working extremely well!

  55. Adam says:

Morning Rico. Yes Brudder, the farewell concert has been going on for several years by now? I feel curiously detached, embarrassed for Wenger, yet surprised at the way the club has allowed him to drift so aimlessly, for so long. It’s clear he is making it up as he goes along now like some demented game-show participant competing against the clock.

  56. Lee says:

The bloke that gave us doubles, undefeated seasons in the first 10yrs to this pathetic showing for the last 10yrs…… 🙁

  57. Adam says:

Thats true. His whole way of doing things has caught up with him and essentially he has put his own self interests before those of the club. It’s going to be difficult to win back the fans I would think and it could be the case that it drags on through the whole season. This transfer window (so far) has been so ‘Wenger’. No planning, conviction or ambition and confusing bluster and embarrassing statements that show a real sense of detachment.

    Rico Good Morning

In August 2007, David Dein sold his 9,072 shares (14.58%) in the club for £75 million to Red & White Holdings, an investment vehicle of Russian metal billionaire Alisher Usmanov and his business partner Farhad Moshiri.[7] Dein was appointed as chairman of Red & White, which is the largest shareholder in the club outside of members of the board of directors. In September 2008 he resigned as chairman of Red and White, with The Times suggesting it was to improve relations between Arsenal and Red & White.[8]
    Departure from Arsenal

David Dein’s departure from Arsenal was met with a strong reaction from key figures at the club. Arsene Wenger described David Dein’s departure “as a sad day for the club”. Following his departure, Wenger was believed to have asked Dein whether he wished him to resign from the post of manager in support for his friend. Dein told Wenger that he should not leave Arsenal as the club would suffer greatly from his loss as manager if he decided to leave.

Arsene Wenger stated “It is a huge disappointment because we worked very closely together, David has contributed highly to the success of the club in the last 10 years and even before that as well. Red and white are the colours of his heart.”[5]

Arsene Wenger also stated “David Dein is needed in football because this guy has revolutionised this club (Arsenal) and also English football. He is top quality.”[6]

Former Arsenal hero, Ian Wright described David Dein’s departure as follows:

“I know the players aren’t happy. I know Thierry Henry’s not happy. We’re talking about a man [David Dein] who goes into the dressing room after every single game, shakes every player by the hand and who knows all the youth team players.”

“I know this for a fact that the manager and the players are 100 per cent behind David Dein and I can see real repercussions coming off the back of this.” [7]

Thierry Henry claimed that David Dein’s departure as vice-chairman had dismayed him and left him in no doubt that it was time to move on.[8]

  59. kelsey says:

I thought it was amusing an to an extent a fair comparison that Holding who cost pennies played very well against leicester, is only 20 and English so why pay 50 million for a replacement for Pers, or words to that effect from Wenger, but it shows he just doesn’t want to spend despite having the money..

Then i gave it a thought and the acid test usually is to see how we perform against the usual top 4 or 5 sides and our record in recent years is pretty awaful. I am not including Leicester as we beat them twice and however proud they and their fans may feel, I doubt they can reproduce anything like that again. One can’t judge holding on one game.

Going back to Mustafi it is now alledged we bid 30 million they wated 35 but now they say the deal is off and they want 50 million. It’s a game of poker not being played out well by either side.We need a replacement for Pers which we knew last season and Valencia are strapped for cash.I feel this might still drag on.

  60. Adam says:

David Dein has assumed something of a cult status since he left. I wonder why, after Hill-Wood retired, they didn’t ask him back.

  61. rico says:

That would have made too much sense Adam, unless there’s more to his departure than we know about.

Maybe it’s down to him siding with R&W Holdings…

  62. Lee says:

    Signings worth £20m+ since 2004

    22 – Citeh
    18 – chavs
    15 – manure
    14 – dippers
    3 – Arsenal

    Titles won since 2004
    5 – manure
    4 – chavs
    2 – citeh

    from Twitter.

  63. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

Are you still with bad weather you rain soaked miserable lot??

Lee…….good points regarding £20million+ signings and leagues.

But put it in perspective as well………how many £20m+ signings did the spuddies and dippers make since 2004??? How many league titles have they won???

How many stadiums have the above three league winners build

  64. rico says:

Kroenke is a somewhat reclusive man. He is popularly known as “Silent Stan” because he almost never gives interviews to the press.[11] He rarely interferes in his teams’ day-to-day operations.

Kroenke is the largest shareholder of Premier League football (soccer) club Arsenal. Arsenal already had a technical link-up with Kroenke’s Colorado Rapids when in April 2007 Granada Ventures, a subsidiary of ITV plc, had sold its 9.9% stake in Arsenal Holdings plc to Kroenke’s KSE UK inc.[13] Kroenke went on to buy further shares in the club, taking his total stake up to 12.19%.[14] The club’s board initially expressed skepticism that a bid would be in its best interests,[15] but gradually warmed to him as part of counteracting Alisher Usmanov’s rival bid for the club.

By June 2008 the board had prepared to let Kroenke take over the club,[16] and on September 19, 2008, it was officially announced that Kroenke had joined the Arsenal board of directors.[17] Kroenke had a beneficial interest in, and controlled voting rights, over 18,594 shares, representing 29.9% of the issued shares. Thus, he was nearing the maximum 29.99% threshold, beyond which he would be forced to make an offer for all remaining shares.[18]

On April 10, 2011, it was reported that Kroenke was in advanced talks to complete the takeover of Arsenal.[19][20] The following day, it was announced that he increased his shareholding in Arsenal to 62.89% by purchasing the stakes of Danny Fiszman and Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith, and agreed to make an offer for the rest of the club at £11,750 per share, valuing the club at £731M.[21][22]

  65. Adam says:

Rico. As you know, I knew a bit about what happened back then through friends. Danny, like so many ‘intelligent’ people through the ages, allowed his personal animosity to rule his head when he knew in his heart that it was against the club.’s best interests to out DD. I could never work out why Arsene didn’t push to bring him back. I can imagine lots of conspiracy theorist scenarios but there again, it could have been vital for the club. After all, Wenger is floating all on his own now, perhaps as a direct result. A fact that, in itself, is highly worthy of yet more theories.

  66. Hell Raising Devil says:

yes we are suffering now. as we have been for the last 10 years. And with AW in stadium building mode in order to save a few pennies we will continue to suffer till he is there.

But please use stats not to suit an agenda.

what is white is white……give the whole picture….because half truths are worse than lies.

  67. potter says:

Astonishing quote from Arsenal chairman Sir Chips Keswick on Wenger: “If he has a plan we back it, if he doesn’t have a plan we keep quiet.”.

Once that came out it was obvious that we were and still are a rudderless ship drifting on the tide. The club misses Dein and his drive from the boardroom and Adam is completely correct to say that personalities got in the way of the best interests of the club.

  68. rico says:

You sound like Wenger Devil… 😉

Why compare us to teams below us though, shouldn’t we be looking to those above and abroad, after all, that’s why we moved to the big stadium. To compete with the best…

  69. rico says:

I’m surprised he didn’t push to get him back too Adam, they worked so well together…. Such a great shame really…

I wonder if he tried but Kroenke blocked it?

  70. ScottfromOz says:

    Thanks Rico.
Damn, we’ve sold some great players since 2008, especially since Stan has never denied Wenger money.
    Just saying 🙂

  71. rico says:

That’s where men and women differ Potter, we don’t allow friendship or the lack of it, stop us from doing what’s right…. 😉

  72. Lee says:

Exactly Rico, weren’t we supposed to rivalling all the massive clubs in Europe once we’d moved from Highbury?

Last time I looked the spuds & dippers were way down the pecking order compared to the elite teams….. ho hum.

  73. Lee says:

We’ve also bought some absolute dross, held on to players for far too long and rewarded average players with bumper deals….

  74. rico says:

I’m sure I heard those muttered by Ivan Lee… lol

But in reality, we are not competitive at all. We are nowhere near the likes of Bayern, Barca, Madrid and a long way away from Utd, Chelsea and City. Certainly not when it comes to what matters, the football played and the squad…

  75. rico says:

Spot on Lee. Money wasted is so many ways and still is… The man is so tight but pays vasts amounts of money for utter garbage….

  76. potter says:

Which potentially highlights the problem then Scott. If Kroenke has never withheld the cash then it comes down to whoever makes the final decision. Dein had the drive to do it and whether it’s Wenger , Law or Gazidis someone obviously doesn’t.

  77. Lee says:

But other clubs realise if they’ve bought a dud or injury prone player and sell them not hang on to them or put them on bumper deals….

  78. rico says:

The difference is Scott, other clubs don’t keep their rubbish players, they get rid of them. Arsenal keep them and reward them handsomely…

  79. Adam says:

Perhaps Wenger is too pragmatic in the crazy world of football finance. Trying to bring his own brand of common-sense to a situation as out of control as PL football and the money therein is naive at best. Surely he is quite simply a man out of time and place, filled with the battle between his own beliefs and the reality of a situation that he is quite obviously totally out of his depth with. Add the press and their incendiary agenda that will not let up and the fact that he is losing, or has lost, the fans and surely he must understand that his time is up and the experiment has been something of a failure. I could even believe that his inertia in the market is a direct result of all these things combined.

  80. Hell Raising Devil says:

no Rico….I am not trying, nor ever will I try to sound like AW.

Yes I could have compared our club to the above three……but we had mortgage to pay, while Chavs and shitty had zilch to pay but money put on a plate by wealthy people. So they can afford it atm….until those in charge shaft them and up and go elsewhere.

I am only against using certain stats as an agenda.

I don’t agree with AW regarding purchases, regarding square pegs in round holes team players, regarding tactics and regarding the way the club is managed. I don’t like the present situation, don’t like the results, don’t like the current transfer market haggling by AW and the club.

there are somethings which I will never forgive AW for….even if he manages to win the league for the next ten years…..the 8-2, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 results will forever rankle in my mind. Selling great players simply because they could look at him eye to eye and challenge him and replace them with ass holes just because they are yes men and keep quiet is also simply unforgivable.

No I don’t like all this……but I hate it when stats are manipulated to suit one’s point

  81. ScottfromOz says:

Sugar Daddies-“other” clubs have them, we don’t, so please, there’s no point comparing.
In fact, I’d love to know which big clubs around the world do offer a fair comparison to us.
    That’d be an interesting exercise.

  82. rico says:

I didn’t say you were Devil, just that you did sound like him. So many excuses for the lack of transfers, the money, the stadium, the rich clubs etc etc..

Arsenal have £250m in the bank, they can compete with the bigger clubs but they/he choose not to..

  83. frednerk says:

Wonder why Arsene was as quick
as a flash to get Vardy in.
Is because it was for 20mil or
    that we needed a forward?
