What's Mertesacker been up to? Transfer window opens again today…

Morning all.

How boring is the football world when the internationals take place?

Is it just me, or does everyone dread these breaks and really have little interest in watching the international game? Not even England, my own country and a side which includes our own Theo and Jack interest me, in fact all I look for is to see if we have suffered any new injuries.

Thankfully, tonight it’s all over and fingers and toes crossed all our players return fit and healthy and ready for Sunderland.

Poor old Per Mertesacker is the latest Arsenal player to face stupid questions from the media ahead of Germanys fixture against the Faroe Islands.

Oh, and guess what they wanted to talk about, yep, you guessed it, Mesut Ozil….

I think he is worth what we paid for him. He is a phenomenal player and I think he has not reached his best, at the moment.

He will fit in. He will suit Arsenal. We are really looking forward to playing with him and being his team-mate.

I think his contribution to this club will be massive. He’s an exceptional player and we are over the moon to have him at Arsenal. You could see his intelligence, especially the last pass, the decisive pass, is vital in his game and we can expect a lot.

He’s shy but he developed in the last few years. When he went to Madrid, went abroad, I think he improved a lot. He went through rough times as well so his experience is vital and can make the difference.

His confidence is still big and that will rise. Ozil played up front for the final few minutes of Germany’s 3-0 victory over Austria on Friday and Mertesacker suggested he could play there for Arsenal if circumstances dictated. The defender also said the capture of a proven world class performer had changed the mentality at the Emirates.

When we met at the national team we spoke a lot about Arsenal and a lot about London and I always said it’s a big city and a good club to be at So maybe that was in his mind when he took the decision to join us.

So then, has our naughty new captain been tapping up Ozil? In fact, was he behind Lukas Podolski signing two, both joined us after he did…

I jest of course but you never know do you for sure and with all the rumours about Arsene Wenger returning to the German League in search of new players in January and then again in the summer, maybe word of mouth is the way many transfers happen.

Lars Bender is being tipped to be the next German international heading our way, if we are to believe what is written in The Daily Star.

According to them, we are set to go back for the German international in January, with an improved offer of £25m. Bender is known for his tireless work rate and incredible stamina.

That’s all very good then…..

Talking of transfers, the loan transfer window opens today. Not sure for how long but it’s likely we could see one or two players depart, at least until January 1st. Serge Gnabry is rumoured to be one of those players but my own view is he’d be one of the first  to step up should we suffer injuries in his position. Ryo Miyaichi and Gedion Zelalem are two others who spring to mind but considering all three are listed as being part of our first team squad it would be a surprise to see anyone go.

Emmanuel Frimpong though, is in desperate need of football, if he is to have any chance of remaining an Arsenal player. He needs to get away from the social media and concentrate on all things football and prove he has what it takes to play at the top level.

Finding the right club for any of our players must be difficult as very seldom do they seem to get much playing time. Jack Wilshere was the exception when he played under Owen Coyle at Bolton. They need playing time, not bench time, otherwise they may as well stay and play in the reserves…

Four more days and we are back – fingers crossed for tonight…

That’s it for another day…

Good Morning Lady, Sir, Gentlemen and Ladies.

    Good post Rico.

Per naughty??? That should be what other AFC players should do.

Imagine Santi telling Cesc that life is getting better at AFC.

Imagine Kozzer telling Benzema that he will start scoring again.

Imagine Mesut telling the Bender brothers that AFC is the team for them.

  2. Terry White says:

How I agree with you on the Internationals, especially injuries.
On the Potentially new “German” signings in January, can you really imagine the Emirates lot especially Wenger “Broadcasting” that we are going to sign Lars Bender in January ?
Wenger makes a clam look wide open when he is negotiating
There is so much crap on the media

  3. rico says:

    Morning Devil and all, thanks..

Santi could be telling Cesc that already, he’s certainly telling the press a lot about us these days…

  4. devilgunner says:

Imagine an advanced midfield of Cazorla, Cesc and Mesut.

Mourinho would be spouting shit from all of his openings. Not that has not always been happening but such a midfield would see him falling over himself trying to stifle them.

Especially with Ramsey and Wilshere behind them.

    Or the Bender twins.

Jesus. That would make our midfield the greatest Gods of football ever assembled.

  5. rico says:

No Terry, like you say, it’s all crap and made up because we had an offer for him turned down this summer, according to reports..

    Would be a nice signing though… 😉

  6. rico says:

    Merts
    Podolski
    Ozil
    Gnabry
    Eisfeld
    Zelalem…

Wenger is definitely keen on the Germans..

    Next in:

    Ginter and Draxler imho…

  7. devilgunner says:

I dont know. sometimes I get the feeling he will. Sometimes I get the feeling he will stay at Barca.

But its good to have that AM trio in your team. makes you sort of feel INVINCIBLE. That AM would be slightly superior to that of FL,DB and BP in the assist stakes and possession percentage.

Only one forward would make that lot powerful……..BENTEKE.

  8. devilgunner says:

Gintner and Draxler make more sense than the Bendtner twins and Cesc Rico.

    Mine was just a dream.

    Yours is slightly more realistic.

  9. rico says:

Benteke would be ideal imho too devil, can’t believe we didn’t go for him when he first said he wanted to leave Villa. Maybe the flirting with Spurs put AW off…

  10. rico says:

Ha ha, both have a bit of presence about them too, over 6’…

And we all know AW is obsessed with midfielders…

Ginter would be the perfect ‘DM/CB’ kind of player – two for the price of one 😉

  11. rico says:

West Ham have signed Mladen Petrić..

Wonder if that means we are going to sign the Romanian?

Reports suggested it was between us and West Ham.. 😉

  12. malaga gooner says:

not sure rico, but people outside arsenal dont give him enough praise.
the defence has been outstanding for the past year, steve bould has been immense,i dont think we give him enough praise.

  13. BrainwashedKev says:

    Bendtner Twins…………..!!!!!!!

    Don’t tell me that there’s another one Coach…… 😉

As Mick would say, ‘saints preserve us’…..

  14. Gtid says:

I dont believe in those reports about us going for midfielders when we have them plenty in the sqaud unless ofcourse we’re offloading some.

I’m just wondering why Arsene went for Yaya Sanogo when we have Joel campbell who’s doing very well and he’s already in the senior team scoring goals

  15. rico says:

That’s because he’s a bit slow Mg, and I am one of those who have given him stick for that but his reading of the game is second to none.

When he comes up against a pacey forward line, his lack of pace shows…

🙂 Kev – I did notice the ‘t’ but I’m less cruel than you 😉

  16. BrainwashedKev says:

    Campbell couldn’t get a work permit….

I have read that the PFA, who advise the Home Office on work permits, are going to make it more difficult for non-EU passport holders…

Don’t suppose it’ll make any difference to ManUre, they never get refused a work permit…

  17. potter says:

Someone should do a comparison of the visa granting system . we always seem to dip out , whether this is because we chase the wrong horses or someone doesn’t like us – who knows ?

Untold Arsenal like to investigate anything that deflects criticism from the club , this could be right up their street.

  18. rico says:

🙂 Kev, I just about managed to …

Potter – I think it’s easy – if players join us, no permit, everywhere else, they get one..

  19. devilgunner says:

    Oui Kev……….there are two.

One plays for Moenchengladbach and one plays for Dortmund.

One can play RB,LB,DM while the other can play RB,RW,DM.

To buy them both I think would need around 55 to 60 million.

So its fair to say that Gintner and Draxler are more viable money wise.

If it were for me I would go for the twins.

But knowing AW he would go for the latter two.

  20. tsgh says:

    Afternoon friends,

A good read Rico… Metro should be taking tips from you. 😛

Hmm, the Benders… well, the are like the Williams sisters. One minute one is hot the next the other is hot.

At the moment Lars of BVB is being rotated with club captain whilst Sven of Leverkussen is hot right now..

Will BVB 09 sell Bender with Kehl close to retirement and Gundogan dragging his feet with contract extension?

I think Leverkussen may sell next summer as they did with Schurrle if we go in early next summer before anyone else goes for one of their main stars.

In my view, if AR16 and JW10 maintain their consistency then I would rather AW went for Ginter if Miguel does not cut the mustard instead. I will prefer Ox or Aneke to be given a chance too in CM.

  21. devilgunner says:

    Bendtner twins???? Oh God.

That has to be one of the worst Freudian slips ever.

    A LAPSUS with capitals.

as if one isnt enough already. To fit one is already impossible. to fit two would require the whole infinity of the universe.

  22. tsgh says:

Wenger has always been keen on Germans… Volz, Klinsman to name a few…

Its the German or Bavarian in him I guess which he tries to deny…

  23. devilgunner says:

Ginge………Gintner would be more viable since he would not upset the applecart. He would fit in much more than any one with stellar status as he can expect to be rotated while the Bender twins would expect to play everytime. And with Aaron and Jack bossing the midfield that would be quite difficult.

  24. tsgh says:

I think Kroos will be an option for CM if needed.

Toni can play anywhere in midfield and behind the striker. Against Juve last season he conpletely marked out Pirlo like Oscar and Wooney did with MA08 when we played the chavs and Yanited last season.

I think Pep may want to move Toni on for Thiago to establish himself in the starting XI. If Thiago fails that will be another entry to Peps long list of bad buys in his relatively short career…

  25. devilgunner says:

so and so Ginge thank you.

the heat is still killing me although its decreasing bit by bit. It makes me and the little one suffer a bit.

but one the whole we are ok.

  26. tsgh says:

Dev, I agree with you on Ginter… mark my words he will be the next Canavaro or Thuram…

Its interesting to note that the Benders have fallen behind Kroos in the DM position even though he is not one himself at club level.

Schweinsteiger and Ozil are starters with Kroos and the Benders fighting for the other pivot role for the Krauts…

Hummels is now also being dropped and not favoured next to our BFG as their pairing is similar to BFG and TV last season.

    Later…

  27. emma says:

    Good post rico,

    Good day everyone

Love the way we are going about Ginter, kroos, cesc etc coming to ‘The Arsenal’. But have we thought about it that we are already stuffed in the midfield(DM,AM and CM). We’ve already got Flamini/Arteta/Frimpong for the DM, Wilshere/Ox/Ramsey/Diaby for the CM and Rosicky/Ozil/zelalem for the AM role. Our utmost priority should be getting in a striker. It’s a world cup season so it will be very difficult to get one in during the winter transfer window. Still think NB-52 sorry NB-23 can do a job for us until next summer.

  28. cork gunner says:

Afternoon everone at h.h could wenger have his finger on the pulse again with our recent taping into the german market.a title winning squad could be assembled as soon as 2014 if we spend wisely in the next 2 windows in my opinion. Exciting times ahead fellow gunners

  29. tsgh says:

    Hiya Emma,

I am with you TGSTEL. He could be a revelation if he stays fit. e definitely wants to play in Brazil so you never know…

  30. potter says:

Big game for Denmark tonight away to Armenia , 3 points would take them right up the table, probably 3rd , with italy and Malta to come. At the moment he is not in the squad.

  31. tsgh says:

Hi Potter, I believe the Danish head coach told Bendtner to play or forget about the national team…

ESPN reckon we are interested in Yevhen Konoplyanka .

  32. SD UK says:

Aguero didn’t even mention us as title contenders , he mention the manures , Spuds and even Liverpool.

I just laughed, because for him not to mention us at all says a lot about what he really feels.

Have got them all scared ?

Good time to be a Gunner right now.

  33. tsgh says:

Zelalem is out for 6-8 weeks allegedly. He won’t be an AFC player/prodigy if he didn’t get injured at some point. 🙁

  34. tsgh says:

It is Emma, but the plus side is that it will be an opportunity for him to bulk up a bit more in the gym…

I personally think he should be playing with the u-21’s like Akpom until January at least. The u-21’s had to suspendd a fixture as they did not have enough players recently…

  35. tsgh says:

Hopeful Sagna, Kozzer, Panzer, Ozil, Ramsey and TR07 get less than 90 minutes and come back injury free tomorrow…

SC19 featured for 62 minutes last week so another 35 to 60 minutes won’t do him any harm.

Monreal did not play either for Spain…

  36. tsgh says:

    😀 😀

    Arsenal Repört ‏@ArsenalReport 22h

Came across Dumb And Dumber when flicking through the channels, but realised it was McManaman interviewing Gareth Bale on BT Sport 1.

  37. tsgh says:

pffff- we got no breaks at all.

“Haringey councillors, agreeing to let [Spurs] drop £16m legal commitment to fund social housing, schools and transport” – The Guardian

  38. emma says:

Hopefully he comes back stronger. On the subject of Ramsey, the sky is his limit. He just keep improving. He has cemented his position in the team and will be difficult to drop. Hopefully Wilshere gets to 100% soon. Rosicky will be affected by Ozil but will love to see him in the CM role alongside ramsey. Arteta will find it difficult to get into the team now

  39. emma says:

It will be interesting to see how TV is integrated into the squad. Will he be giving the armband? and who drops to the bench?. Good i am not the one to worry about that. Hope TV comes back stronger though and fights for his place and armband.

  40. stevepalmer1 says:

    Evening all
Another post i dont agree with Rico, sorry.
Every proffessional footballer wants to play for his country. Maybe some people believe that Englands team cannot win anything so they have no interest. I like to think that all English fans would be watching tonight hoping for an England win. Personally i am proud that some of our players are part of the team in fact i would like to see more. Injuries can happen at any time you hope that your clubs players are not amongst them but if they are so be it. I see no difference between a top league game to an Internatiional .shit happens. I love Arsenal but my country comes first.

  41. tsgh says:

I feel Theo is being overused by both AW and our national team.

I dont see the point in Ozil starting when the Germans are almost through…

  42. malaga gooner says:

evening all, england missing a fit wayne rooney.
actually think he will be an arsenal player next season, think this is why we never bought a striker this window.
    he would be perfect.

  43. cork gunner says:

Wos really looking forward to seeing zelalem this year, arsenal dont seem to do one or two week injuries.is eisfield injured long term as well ,evening everybody

  44. malaga gooner says:

evening corky, eisfeld was the 1 for me to step up this season.he was at dortmund with goetze and was suppose to be better than him until his injury.he dont seem to be in any of the 1st team plans.

  45. cork gunner says:

Alright mg the last few years we’ve been losing our most promising youngsters to injury In Ramsey, jack, eisfield and now zelalem.even frimpong lwos one of our best players pre season a few years ago before he had a bad injury.a little luck on the injury front would be nice this seaso

  46. cork gunner says:

Id say so mg.we dont have enough quality in my opinion . watching dunphy and brady at each others throats is class ha ha cranky bastards

  47. BrainwashedKev says:

    Rosicky defo out for weekend….

Gotta be doubts over Wilshere and Walcott…

Also heard that Ramsey was injured as well.
    Hope that it’s a wind-up?!!!

No doubt Rico, you’ll know more when you check in the morning…

  48. devilgunner says:

    Good Morning Fine Folk.

I see that the effects of jealousy regarding the signing of Mesut are starting to go on the overdrive. I love reading them on NN.

Regarding the injuries we will know later on today but at the moment the news is not that good.

  49. tsgh says:

    Its unbelievable really Mg…

I hope with Czech all but out of the WC, he will resign…

Saying that I believe he came off as a precaution.
