What is more important for an Arsenal Fan right now???

Short post today but be honest with yourselves, what would be more important for you as an Arsenal Fan next season?

A couple of £30 Million signings or winning?

A few ‘not so big’ named signings and winning ?

Similar under Wenger or winning under a ‘low profile’ manager?

Money in the Bank of Arsenal, or sail close to the wind with our finances and winning?

Be run as we are at the top or see a takeover and big stars come in?

Watch wonderful fast flowing football which the whole footballing world admire, or winning?

Seeing new signings announced, only to find out it’s yet another 15 year old or winning?

Watching the likes of Squillaci, Denilson, Diaby and Almunia, or winning?

Winning 1-0 with good old fashioned English Football or same old same old under Wenger with a few 5-0 victories thrown
in?

What really is important to you, is it winning with a few so called sacrifices at the top? Or are you happy with the way things are?

If it’s winning, do you want to be winning in style, or right now would just be happy to be back winning, regardless of the score and sometimes regardless of how we get the win???

That’s it for today, have a good one….

    Morning guys.

I think we can have both, I think we can win and play great football, I just think we need to bring in a few proven winners.

Buffon would be an amazing role model and teacher for Ches.

I think we need a proven “hard” centre back to compliment TV, JD and Kos. Squil is just not good enough.

Parker from West Ham to had desire and bite in midfield. Once Cesc is not there, we lose all desire in the middle.

Eto’o up front. A striker who doesn’t care about passing to someone else. A striker who is greedy and who when he see’s the goal, has a shot and also follows up other’s shots. We have had no one who is willing to do that since Pires.

    Buffon

    Sagna TV JD Clichy

    Nasri Parker Cesc AA

    Van Persie

    Eto’o

    Subs:

    Ches
    Gibbs
    Kos/A.N. Other
    Jack
    Rambo
    JET

    HAve I missed anyone?

  2. rico says:

    Morning folks..

I would like both but i no longer see wenger changing, seven years ago he started all this….

  3. Will says:

    Buffon free

Parker if West Ham go down between £5m and £10m
Eto’o would be the big cost, maybe £25m
    Top class defender? £15m?

Sell 7 players and make between £10m and £15m

Win the league for the next 3 to 4 years.

  4. aj says:

It’s not about winning or finishing in the top four for me.It’s about seeing our players actually giving a shit.To be outfought by Blackburn when we are going for the league is just a disgrace to the shirt. We lost the League cup to a team that wanted it more.I guess the problem is when you make 40+ grand a week you think you’ve made it already. We need to sign players with attitude and real desire.

  5. rico says:

Will, Keown has said that before, he is right that they should be playing for their futures, but in truth, are they??

  6. rico says:

Nice comment aj, none of ours appear to have given a toss for the club in the last few games, AA and Theo seemed up for it at the beginning on sunday – and they were both subbed..

  7. rico says:

    Will,

An Arsenal player wouldn’t behave in such a way…!

Interesting to read Keown say Arsenal had a 5 year plan on youth after we moved and that he thinks wenger will finally spend some money in the summer…

I think some of that money should be on a wage for Keown and get him back to sort out our defence…

  8. Will says:

I agree, Keown teaching players what it is to play for The Arsenal and also, learning how to defend.

But I think we need those 4 players and we win.

  9. Potter says:

Will, the problem with the sell 7 players idea is that they earn so much and really are only fringe players , other teams will not pay the wages and a fee to take them away.

  10. Rocastle says:

Will. Amazing. They are the players I was talking about in the pub at the weekend. The big bruiser would be mertrsacker, lucio, Sakho. Someone like that.

8 games to go with a game in hand…funny how people are saying that Chelsea are not out of it but we’ve blown it?!

We need to get behind the team now, get off almunias back cos climbing all over someone with no confidence is just plain crazy.

    Keep the faith.

  11. rico says:

That is most of our problem Will, the players we have, have liitle or no Arsenal in them, do they know much about our club? Do they know how it all began, do they care who Herbert Chapman was, does it matter to them that the clock is back, do they actually care about anything other than picking up a wage slip???

Who ever Wenger buys they must WANT to play for Arsenal football becaaue of what we are as a club, not just because Arsene Wenger is manager, or because Cesc Fabregas is the captain, we need players who will give their all until the final whistle goes….

  12. rico says:

    Hi Potter and Rocastle…

Ok, we get the four players and we start winning, would eveyone be happy then?

Would Wenger suddenly be forgiven? Would the price increase on season tickets and match day tickets be forgotten, would the fact that many hardened fans can’t get to see Arsenal because too many jcls attend the games be forgotten?

All that is down to the board, and they are another story. We have Stan with his shares, The big Russian with his – wouldn’t it be better for Arsenal to get all this kind of stuff sorted out too?

  13. rico says:

Potter – i think we need to cut our losses with them,
    what are some worth??

    Nik 8M
    Den £5m
    Diaby £8m
    Almunia £2m

They are prob earning between 30 – 50K a week

Thats a lot of money on rubbish…

Wenger could get Scott Parker, Gary Chaill and afford Drogba’s wages if we sell them

  14. rico says:

On top of those, look at some of the reserves we could afford to offload

    Eastmond
    Randall
    Hoyte

Just to name three, they don’t need replacing either, we can use what we save on their wages to pay the others…

  15. Potter says:

Totally agree Will, we need to do something and I am firmly in the uprating the squad camp. All i was saying is that the popular list of players to go , i.e. Almunia , Diaby, Denilson , Eboue etc are unlikely to bring in enough on their own. So their sale cannot be used as a basis to fund enough new signings

  16. Potter says:

Rico:- Pruning the squad would certainly help in generating some funds but only if the Lansbury’s Jets etc are ready to step up as fringe players next season.Lansbury has certainly taken his chance at Norwich and could be on track to replace one of the Denilson /Diaby axis.

  17. Will says:

Not saying to fund the new signings but lets say they are on £30k a weak each.

    £10.920.000 a year in wages

Bring in £20m in transfer fees from 7 players (not even £3m a player) and there you have £30m to add to whatever money you already have.

  18. Lee says:

Will, I think we’d generate more wedge from selling the dross, but anyways this squad is in desperate need of these additions and not to be supplemented with bargain basement….QUALITY UPGRADES!!

  19. rico says:

I think Lansbury is ready too, it’s equally as hard fighting for a Championship title as it is the PL and Norwich are doing bloomin well, Lansbury seems to be at the heart of it too – my fear is that if Wenger doesn’t give him positive news in the summer, he will ask for a move to Norwich, who will also be in the PL probably…

  20. Joaquim Moreira says:

    hi1
    Psrker? ??? Eto ????
    I’m perplexed !!!
Post: be champion now! No matter play well. Have we played this season and not adding anything more. With hypothetical victory opens up the door for the arrival of players who want to represent Arsenal desire for more wins, more fans, more support, more roll, more respect, and especially more pride!
Note: have you seen the last post from yesterday?

  21. rico says:

From last post by Joaquim Moreira…

F.C. Porto: Champion of logic constructivists http://www.eleganche.es de Jose David Lopez

American baseball fans, tell a story about the difficulty of the work of their members. Three of them met to talk one day. “There are plays and plays failed success. I determine which is which, “said one. “There are plays of success and failure.

I sanction what I see are, “said the second. The third, however, stressed that “there are moves to success or failure unless I not been punished as such.” Everyone wanted to argue their decisions but while the former was intended to be objective, the other two were constructivists.

And since there is a valid criterion to discern whether a theory is better than another, we must endorse those approaches that are useful, consistent with its context, not exclusive and facilitators of change.

And there comes the logic. In football, despite the efforts of the humblest and equity still existing in many championships, continue to excel those who mix work, good management and quiet sports policy.

Because constructivism is imposed, structure success successful ideals who recycle and punishes those who dare challenge him without adequate means. The status of Portugal’s leading logically constructive F.C.Porto.

It is not news. Seven of the last nine championships in the Superliga, have gone to Do Dragao. Everything responds to a project hopefully will continue, which saves kept their proposals despite the change of players and understands the path to success as a long-term path where, above all, do not break their premises. The club is paramount and prevails over those who advocate on the lawn, in turn, strictly selected by a group of scouts and international specialists who know how to make maximum profit to euros invested. That explains why a club that has lost more than half of their stars in recent years (say it has been historical regret) and got almost 300 million euros with recent sales as (the first to come to head), Lisandro Lopez, Lucho Gonzalez, Quaresma, Anderson, Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira, Bosingwa, Deco, Cissoko, Bruno Alves, Diego Ribas and Raul Meireles, keep the script untouchable crown it as ‘untouchable’ in Portugal.
A giant in the design entity working, disciplined in its estates and left in a country with archaic legends where it has real rivals to overcome. After the failure of last season, where summer sales in excess over the amount contributed by new recruits, forcing them to be isolated on a lower step, the Dragons again show hierarchy. Prepared for greater challenges and with immaculate image of who would be able to compete head to head with the greats of the current Champions, only the tertiary cache Superliga, historically prevented reap greater international success. However, it is the most titled club in the new century. The precariousness of their surroundings, avoids development on a larger scale an obligation to export their best pieces and restore the machine. Have scouts around the world and a perfect gear market. The pledges, from all over the country and abroad, go through several satellites properly structured teams for their benefit. One more statistic that reflects the huge role of an institution struggling to rein in what may be ostracized primary that football has on those who do not live in soils Spanish, English, Germans or Italians.
And after a campaign in which his tyranny had been more cruel than ever (unbeaten) with 23 wins and two draws in 25 league games this Sunday closed ranks. Porto were crowned champions in the best way possible in the stage of the enemy, a Benfica without the freshness of the last year and showed to be a mirage, a project with good roles but without the necessary continuity. And also tried to sabotage the rival joy stadium lights off and turning on the sprinklers in the celebrations of Oporto. Vilas Boas, coach of the future, which can not be separated ever José Mourinho (with whom he worked and learned), he lifted his first title of champion and starts and a career expected to be enigmatic. Thirteen consecutive wins that equaled Mourinho’s own records in the 2003-2004 season, the third youngest coach to win the Portuguese championship (just weeks apart) and the ‘double’ (Super-League) and in hand mythical data can make if you add the Cup (it is in semi-final against Benfica) and the Europa League (located in rooms with lots of flavor and forecasts Portuguese title in sight).
His ideas on the grass begin in the tactics of their core discipline (Fernando, Moutinho, Belluschi and Guarín), in his invaluable outlet pressure on the ball and love rival to open the turf by gangs seeking to deepen. Lanes lover of long-distance side (Fucile and Pereira are examples of this) and ends with imbalances to reach baseline (Varela and Hulk), has re-established the usual order of football Portugal.

The 21 goals (as well as top assistant championship) of outstanding Hulk whose sale this summer fall into that disciplined corporate strategy and the response capacity of a resurgent Falcao and character of a united and created years ago to repeat success , I returned to the dais. Constructivist logic prevails and that for years, has an exclusive basis in Do Dragao.

  22. rico says:

    Hi JM –

Scotty Parker would be good, not so sure about Eto, I think he’d cost us too much to buy and on wages..

  23. John says:

For me as a fan it is most important to go to a game, watch great attacking football, surrounded by people who 100% support the team and not @rseholes who swear at our own players or Wenger and Booh the team. I’m convinced if we created a great atmosphere winning results would come as well. We’re oh so close to greatness, just need everyone on board. Best players for the team? I’ll leave that for the professionals.

  24. rico says:

    John,

You are obviously easily pleased then…..

I would agree that we are not far away from being great again, in fact we have been for 5/6 years now, just a shame that wenger and the club couldn’t see it in them to get the right players to make it happen…

I call that ignorance on their behalf….

  25. W.A.T.H says:

The board needs a huge kick up the Arse Rico….. they the root of this problem and are quite happy to shaft the fans at every opportunity…! They sanction wenger to pay inflated wages to very average players and youth and its crap….! They sit by watching the bank balance just getting ready to sell off the club and make a fortune on their shares….!

  26. rico says:

Hi WATH, agree – they also stop people like me going to games as its too expensive – its all very well putting ticket prices up every year but not every fan lives on the doorstep of The Emirates, some have to travel….

You reckon why they keep paying off all the dbts when we sell players, just so they can be debt free and then take the money and run…

They need to get out then…..

  27. rico says:

Stan and the russian must see that though, why don’t they make their move now whilst the shares are cheaper?

  28. W.A.T.H says:

Did you see a team play great football on saturday John….?

Being a customer if you get a crap piece of meat from Tesco’s that cost you 20quid do you go back and complain…???
If the footy is crap and players are going through the motions as a paying “customer” thats what the club call us these days, I think ppl are entitled to show that they are not satisfied with the “product” if that means they boo then thats their choice…!

  29. W.A.T.H says:

I think Stan and the Russian have cancelled each other out Rico, will be interesting to see how it all pans out but it’s def not good that Hill Wood is a fossil and the rest just kiss wengers arse and let him do what he wants cos they have limited ambition and top 4 is it….! Drive needs to come from the board and that should then flow through the whole club…!

  30. rico says:

I still think someone different to those two will eventually take over WATH, if we have to be, i hope it’s the Qatar group (i think i have their name right) the ones who were looking at the mancs – the so called head of that group professes to be a gooner…

  31. rico says:

As much as i didn’t like what Roman did at the Chavs, everyone thought he would get bored and gone by now but he has done the opposite – he now seems to be spending a little different and not just buying every player to stop everyone else buying them…

  32. Potter says:

John ,I don’t mean to be impertinent but : How old are you ? . I have had this conversation with others before in my family and the ones that just want to watch the game for the entertainment value are usually youngsters that were bought up in the ” nobody should lose , school sports ethic.

  33. joshua says:

i have follow our games this seasion our problem is not defence as such kos is very good defender.if wenger can sell almunia, denlison, diaby,NB52,and rosicky.repleace, buffon, ramsey, frimpong,Eto and Harzard.

  34. rico says:

I don’t care if I’m honest Will but, why should he go?

If he did, he would sell to another wealthy man who would carry on from where he has left off i’m sure…

  35. Will says:

I am not sure Rico, he may have turned it into shares but Chelsea still owe Roman £700m.

How much do you think Chelsea would cost with that level of debt?

  36. W.A.T.H says:

Interesting reading Keowns thoughts on whats going on at the moment, Wenger gives his players time and his trust but when your times up your gone…. Is that a little bit of inside info from Martin maybe…?

  37. rico says:

I read that too WATH, if that is a little inside snippet, the summer could be a fruitful one, both incoming and out going….

  38. rico says:

At lot of money Will, but someone will be prepared to pay if all the they keep winning….

Look at the mancs – reported to be worth 1.5billion…. i know the chavs are not in their league but they will get there… eventually

  39. Will says:

I have to disagree with Keown a little. If Wenger gave the player his time and then gets rid, why has Denilson been getting starts for god knows how long?

  40. W.A.T.H says:

I don’t think its Keown you disagree with Will I think its the time that wenger has given these players to prove themselves and its prob 2 years to long….! Keown merely states wenger gives the players time and his trust but once that time is up they gone… 5 yrs of trust and time is for me too long…!

  41. Joaquim Moreira says:

The press says today the interesting in Cavani. Good.
Parker wasn’t a Chelsea player? Why is it out? No space on the team. I think he adding nothing substancial to us. The spuds wants Gameiro !

    Article today fron http://www.eurosport.com:

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp wants to buy Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue, according to Tuesday’s papers.
Team of the Week: Bobby’s back Perhaps still flushed with the success of last year’s move for former Gunner William Gallas, Redknapp has set his sights on the 27-year-old Ivory Coast star, according to The Mirror.
Eboue has not had the happiest of spells at Arsenal since joining nearly six years ago but it would be a shock to see him leave, given that he has seemingly settled of late and even signed a new contract at the end of last year which runs until 2014.
Bolton’s Gary Cahill has become one of the hottest properties in British football this season, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool just a few of the clubs rumoured to be keen on securing his services.
But it seems the word is out on the defender over on the continent as well, with the Daily Mail reporting that AC Milan have now joined the race to land the 25-year-old defender. Milan see Cahill as the perfect long-term replacement for the ageing Alessandro Nesta – praise indeed for the Yorkshireman.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is looking to swoop in and pinch Lorient forward Kevin Gameiro from beneath the noses of Tottenham.
The Mirror reports that the Black Cats boss sent his chief scout to watch the 23-year-old as he seeks to arrest his side’s slump since selling Darren Bent. Gameiro, who is high on Spurs’ list of targets, is expected to cost around £12m.
Everton’s Marouane Fellaini and Newcastle’s Joey Barton are both expected to agree new contracts with their respective clubs after beginning talks, but there’s no such luck for Manchester United’s Michael Owen.
The former England superstar has admitted in The Sun that he has no idea whether he will stay at Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season. “We’ve not held any talks yet,” he said.
But in this case it’s safe to say that silence speaks volumes. Sorry Mickey – if you ain’t heard yet, you ain’t gonna.
And finally, the Mail has leaked the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year. On it are Charlie Adam, Gareth Bale, Carlos Tevez, Samir Nasri, Scott Parker and Nemanja Vidic.
If you’d been asked to predict the list last August you might conceivably have put Tevez, Vidic and Parker on there – but as for the other three… what would you give for a time machine and a fiver to take to the local bookies

  42. W.A.T.H says:

JM, Do you think Boas would consider leaving Porto if the rumours are true that we are looking at him…?

  43. W.A.T.H says:

I wish we’d go get Fellaini………. Big strong and technically very good as well. Just what we need.

  44. W.A.T.H says:

JM… I have not seen anything on Cavani although his stats look very good indeed…! Just what we need maybe..? you think Cavani better than Gameiro ??

  45. Joaquim Moreira says:

Villas Boas is referenced by major European clubs. He is from Porto, partner and supporter of F.C. Porto., except that FC Porto has a policy that is explained in the article: it sells well and especially when the lifetime of the players at the end of a cycle and when a coach is over.
I made a summary of the titles in football (F. c, Porto has several sports) 25 Leagues and 4 Championships Portugal (predecessor of leagues), 15 cups, 16 Super Cups (“Charity Shield”, may Have arround 25th editions) , 1 European Champions and 1 Champions League, 1 Uefa Cup, 1 European Super Cup,2 Intercontinental Cup

  46. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Different players.
Cavani does not a lost ball. Go to all. Is “tough” There seems to be very fast but is a player shock, fiber, good head, good height. A player from area to hold the defenses. He has 25 goals in the Italian championship.
Gameiro not know well, but it is a different player. Thin, fast, appetite for goals, more technical. Player deselection fast, as is De Villa or Raul

  47. W.A.T.H says:

JM, I think we should buy them both then 🙂 Who do you think would suit Arsenal better, If they are both good goalscorers either one would be a good buy, yes..?

Boas has had very good teacher…..! Mourinho, I hear Boas likes to play good football though and is very studious with his tactics which is good. Only 33 very young but age is nothing if you have the quality.

  48. rico says:

    Boo,

I saw that about the Porto boss and wenger going upstairs – no truth in that though is there??

  49. W.A.T.H says:

Who in their right mind would take over with wenger upstairs………….???????? if wenger goes sweep the room cleam, start fresh new manager new backroom staff new ideas new players new start, use Bould, Keown etc etc have Arsenal ppl involved so the players know what it menas to represent “OUR” club…! no more passionless gutless foreigners who there for their wages only….! If we buy foreign they must know whats its all about to want to wear the famour red shirt.

  50. rico says:

I don’t Will, i’d rather we buy players who will give their all, show passion – obviously they have to be very good aswell…

  51. Joaquim Moreira says:

W.A.T.S: I read somewhere today Arsenal, MU, Liverpool… want Cavani (uruguai player); Gameiro, like the article said, is in the top of references from spurs but I’m quite sure Gameiro is also on the top off preferences of AW. Others center forward are not in the market.. or are very expensive (De Villa, Falcao, LLorente …)

  52. Will says:

I don’t give a monkey’s where they come from or who they support, as long as they will fight and want to win. I am talking about players who have the desire to be the best.

  53. W.A.T.H says:

    Buffon, Cahill, Fellaini, Drogba/Cavani/Gameiro

That would be the basis of my wishlist, sell the deadwood and we’d be fine for money and for wages.

Cavani or Gameiro as recommended by JM 😉

  54. Lee says:

To quote Stewart Robson: “If Wenger moves upstairs you might as well put a noose around the next manager’s neck!”

  55. W.A.T.H says:

Exactly Lee, always have him looking over the shoulder of the new bloke advising the board to say yes or no etc etc ….. Wouldnt work, not a chance…!

  56. Lee says:

WATH, so what are the options re: AW? I don’t think filing him is an option….personally, and that seems to be the general feeling on HH…

  57. rico says:

Sorry Will, i misunderstood you, i thought you meant we should buy the ready made big names for lots of money…

  58. W.A.T.H says:

In all honesty Lee i’ve stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea on what to do with wenger, it’s all well and good saying what he’s done etc etc but thats history, i’d never ever slag the bloke off but enough is enough, do we give him the summer to put right what we know we all need player wise…. What if come Sep 1st it’s the same old story and then we left with the season of thinking here we go again, can’t sack him then as a new manager has no time to bring in new players he’d have to work with what he has. We need someone in the club to tell wenger the time has come to shows we mean business, does wenger plan on new players and who are they, we need ready made top quality not kids and we want a winning mentality, if wenger doesnt answer these questions correctly then the board need to grow some and make an exec decision and bring in someone new…. Will they, in my opinion not a chance…!. The other side of the coin is if we get a new manager are the fossils on the board going to back him in the transfer market and allow him to spend the money that we have. That doesnt mean getting us into debt either it measn using what we have. Simple.

  59. rico says:

It would Lee but it would break the AFC Bank 😉

Right now, who would have loved Samba back in January…?

  60. SD-London says:

Remember the spirit , the speed and the determination the Carling Cup Team of 2006 had and used to beat everybody in their path to qualify for the final? (Which they would have won if Wenger had used Henry and Gallas that day)

After loosing i thought Arsenal had a bright Future but then Wenger didn’t keep this team together somehow they went on various loans and fizzled out .

They were fast and very fast – we are not fast anymore

Counter attack was the best in the country – now we just pass side ways

We were the most lethal attacking force – Now we trail Man utd

We kept on losing our best players – and we gain relatively lesser compared

Chelsea use to defend with 10 men against us – now they actually want to play us

The team was very strong they knew each other, they played for each other and passed almost without looking.

So then , what is the problem with this present team , why are they really lacking focus, drive or Gas-on the feet?

Wenger is asking the same questions but my guess is he cant find the answer before our next game.

But a positive from all this is we have not lost in the last 3 games.
    So if there is an element of wisdom available in the player’s DNA make up, they will know / figure out that they just need to add a little bit of effort and concentrate harder than before with believe that;
They are the team Man utd is scared of , The team that beat both Chelsea and Barcelona .

So they are capable in this most unsure season ever.

  61. Lee says:

The catalyst for this team, will be the signing of 3 quality players (with winning mentality) and once it gels….i really believe this team will go from strength to strength!

  62. agirlagunner says:

Boo! I’ve forgotten what’s it like to win… And I’m sure our players have, too. 😉

  63. rico says:

    Hi agag, we all have…

But, we have Blackpool at the weekend, it should be one of the best games of the season for all football fans…

We should of course win, however, right now I am not so sure, they play good attacking football but cannot defend… 😉

  64. agirlagunner says:

What our players have been serving up the last x number of games is exactly like my cooking… difficult too swallow. 😀

And if we don’t win against Blackpool… then AW had darn well better hold that fire sale. 😡

  65. rico says:

I’m thinking of having a ‘Highbury House Suicide Watch’…

KT and Will are going to be on it 😉 😉

  66. agirlagunner says:

Ahaha, rico. You may need to give them a lifeline. Crisis support service and all that. 😀

  67. agirlagunner says:

You could include it as an item on your sidebar. Hyuk. That list would grow longer as the season closes, I am sure of it. 😛

  68. rico says:

I think for this season agag it could be dangerous, maybe next 😉 😉

Mind you, that could be worse…. 😉

  69. rico says:
