Wenger wants Petr Cech! We need a proper winger!

Morning all,

Gossip up to start and this one has to be one of the most stupid ever to have been made up and no prizes for guessing where it is from.

This is the exact couple of lines for The Daily Mail:

Petr Cech is the surprise name on Arsenal’s six-man shortlist to replace goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny next season.

The Chelsea keeper has been watched extensively by Gunners scouts.

Think we’ll leave that where it belongs and move onto today’s main post.

Liam Brady was a class act for Arsenal. The man was legendary and a complete footballer.

He was mercurial and that Superstar for us in our successful years in the 70’s. He has been involved with the club for so many years and has “The Arsenal DNA”.

Which brings me to the point, why has he all of a sudden relinquished his role as head of youth? It’s come as a bit of a surprise, especially as you don’t go from being involved to being content with celebrity dinners as a guest speaker.

Surely he would want to see his work rewarded with a few more Jack Wilshire’s. No?

Bob Wilson also left quietly and our goalkeeping standard has obviously dropped. Since Lehmann, we haven’t had a decent enough stopper between the sticks.

Pat Rice hasn’t been seen at all since retiring, this was another die hard “Arsenal is my life” man. You would think he’d watch us play.

C’mon, even Samir pokey Nasri and his Shisha buddy have come to watch us.

This is a man who for over 10 years sat next to Arsene Wenger for hundreds of games, a man who gave most of his life to the Club.

So here we have three key former players, legends in their own right who as midfielder, goalie and defenders could offer invaluable coaching leave the club.

Who has replaced them?

Steve Bould is the only one I can note and he seems very restricted recently, like you can see the masking tape over his mouth and hands super glued inside his tracksuit bottoms.

While we can’t defend, we aren’t particularly prolific either. This brings be to the point of wingers at our club. Or shall I say lack of them!

We simply get into good advanced areas of the pitch and cross blindly, more often than not without clearing the first defender. Wenger has addressed that target man over the years by buying lumps that actually can head the ball, but our crossing has been so substandard there’s no point.

Giroud-can head a ball.
Bendtner-can head a ball. (even if he has a heavy first touch)
Podolski- Can head a ball.
Chamakh- Can head a ball. (even with 2 tubs of Wella gel on that ridiculous barnet of his)

We have missed that George Armstrong, Anders Limpar, Marc Overmars type of classic winger that would not only take his man on, but beat a few and actually put in a decent cross into the box. We might as well try to stop scoring from corners as I have not seen this team win a single header from a cross or those 20 corners in the sloppy defeats.

Furthermore, we cannot play defenders as wingers!

Remember Eboue, decent RB, not a winger!

Same can be said about our central attacking midfielders like Arshavin, Cazorla and Ramsey, they are not wingers so why play them there?

Don’t even start me on what position Diaby or Gervinho play.

We have Oxlade-Chamberlain who could be a good winger, Theo Walcott is not bad there, but they are not wingers. Our fullbacks could not whip in a decent cross if their life depended on it. (Although Jenks is getting there)

Sagna’s crossing is shocking! The man needs to put in the hours, honestly on that kind of money. Until we fork out some serious money on 2 world class wingers, we will have £240k per week worth of striking talent warming our bench or jumping for the fun of it when a cross comes in.

It’s true we don’t play to our strengths, like at Bayern when Theo was up front against 2 giants at the back. Like he will win the headers?? Or trying to play through the middle when the other teams weakness is at full backs.

We have the Cannons up front but the ball is never loaded..

Remember these?

Anders Limpar, Marc Overmars, Robert Pires, George Armstrong and Graham Rix to name a few….

Come on Arsene, go get us a proper winger in the summer……

That’s it for another day, have a good one….

  1. Scott from Oz says:

    Pat left.
    Bob left.
    Liam is leaving.
Each one has inside knowledge of the way Arsenal is run.
Each is a massive supporter of Wenger.
    Enough said.
    Morning all.

  2. Mattyboy says:

Zaha is going to be another like another Ronaldo lost and a bite wegner in a ass losing him out on him to manure

  3. rico says:

    Morning all

Good post George, and spot on re the winger issue. Instead of making players fit, sign the right one to do the job they are supposed to do…

Can’t see it happening though, AW will no doubt persits with Gervinho, Podolski, Walcott and OC on the wings….

  4. ozgunner10 says:

agree and hello Rico – and remember we have to be nice to the forehead otherwise he gets upset and doesn’t play well

  5. ozgunner10 says:

i do hope the suds regular slide doesn’t effect his thinking, we’re miles of the pace and the season has been very poor regardless of what others do surely?

  6. Dick Swiveller says:

The thing is, ozgooner, the issue is mostly in the players heads I think and that isn’t an easy gap to bridge. We need another option up front, and as the man said, a winger, plus maybe a Diaby replacement, that’s not miles off the pace in terms of players needed imo.

  7. George says:

Good morning all, Was missing yesterday , A Wesley Sneijder would have suited us to the T. I know he is on stupid money , but after a year in Turkey, providing he does the biz for Galatasaray, we could try and snap him up. remember Anelka went there and went back to Bolton?

Surely there must be a few wingers withing our £10m transfer per player budget?

  8. ozgunner10 says:

i think that is what Arsene wants us to believe, he’s worked this line hard in the press – personally i think its rubbish. It about preparation for me, we so clearly are not tuned in so much of the time this season. There is no fear factor of daddy Arsene at all and neither should there be because he will defend them regardless – they need fergie up their backsides for a few months is what they need, all of them

  9. George says:

Scott, why have our old guard vanished, re the legends at the club?

Rico, I fear your right , we will have Central mids and Star Trek klingons as wingers.

Oz gunner, Wenger should leave the flying boot treatment to Steve Bould. A week up north somewhere not far from Accrington Stanley, make them realise what they have at Arsenal. They will come back tougher , stronger and will run like they did aganist BM in the 2nd leg and we will see Resilience like vs Sunderland every week.

  10. ozgunner10 says:

hey George, i agree. The team has been turned out many times this season simply not ready or not wanting to play – they have been giving it lip in the press all year and delivered a poor season. its not about confidence its about application. They weren’t not confident against the likes of Bradford and Blackburn, they were not prepared properly and that points to one place. RVP, Cesc, Clichy have all mentioned on how much more intense things are at their new clubs – get someone in here to shake this lot up and add some fire to their bellies, every game not one every now and then. Until that happens doesn’t matter who we buy, it won’t change a thing

  11. rico says:

Maybe boot camp for pre-season George, instead of these ‘nice tours’ they get…

Morning Adam, I forgot the Welsh wing wizard…

  12. Dick Swiveller says:

Well, whatever it’s down to, a lack of confidence or inability to prepare, it’s something that when it clicks for this team it might actually bring a trophy.

I think it seemed to be innate in players like Nasri, Song, Clichy, Almunia (the way he’s playing at the moment I’d chuck Theo in there too…) the core of our last team aside from Cesc and RvP really, that’s why I’m a little more confident in these guys.

  13. George says:

Rico, I like the sound of a boot camp. Instead of luxurious Asia, or somehere hot, somewhere brutal and cold-remember Arsenal play in England and Europe-its cold mostly. I think they should go to the North- east and stay in a travel-lodge..

They can do whatever go wherever 2 weeks in the summer like the majority of their fans do.

Ramsey would be a better DM than Arteta I think Adam and Rico

  14. rico says:

    I wouldn’t even give them a travel lodge George… 😉

Navas – we have been linked to him before..

Ramsey, well as long as he is not shoved on either wing, it’s a good start

  15. Dick Swiveller says:

I’m pretty happy with our spine atm, assuming Vermaelen sorts himself out we have 3 top CBs, with Arteta/Wilshere/Ramsey/Cazorla in the middle the only thing we’re missing there is a bit more brute force, and I like Giroud as our CF although I think another striker or a winger to allow Poldi to play in the middle more is a priority.

Navas is never happening, he can’t leave Seville.

  16. rico says:

I just don’t get how they can’t be in the right ‘mood’ to play Oz – the CC Final spoke volumes for me. Turn up looking like they are off training… No suits and ties, from that moment I feared we’d lose….

  17. rico says:

I’m not DS, new keeper, CH, DM/HM and definitely another striker…

Then we might start looking competitive…

  18. Dick Swiveller says:

Wouldn’t say no to all those, rico!

Didn’t think about a new keeper, depends entirely on Fabainski at this point.

  19. George says:

rico, ok no travellodge – TENTS!

Gervinhos wig getting blown away hahahaha..

Navas is the level of winger we could do with imo @DS and Lexoshoke

  20. allezkev says:

    Cech…. Ah yeah, of course.

    Tomorrow we’ll be signing Rooney.
    Thursday it’ll be Kompany.
    Blah blah blah…

The Daily Mail, a rag produced by toads…

    Morning Gooners.
    Nice read George, well done.
    Morning Rico… 😉
Morning Adam, how are things down by the riverbank?

  21. rico says:

He’ll be off DS, his contract expires in July, as does Mannone

Ten/Caravan would do George or maybe an Igloo if they go somewhere cold enough 😉

Morning Kev, that duvet keep you in this morning?? 😉

  22. allezkev says:

    Interesting point on Bob Wilson.

Not withstanding, that he a gentleman, but Sir Bob has never criticised Wenger and has actually defended him against critics.

  23. Scott from Oz says:

    Exactly Kev.
    Bob is a true Gooner.
Would he defend Wenger over Arsenal??
    No way,
    How are ya mate?

  24. allezkev says:

As for Fabianski, if he retains his place, and Arsenal get a top four finish, would a new contract be out of the question Rico???

  25. Dick Swiveller says:

Aye, I agree someone like Navas would be brilliant, struggling to think of any others off the top of my head but there’s plenty around.

Maybe the rumours we were looking at Downing were true, whilst he isn’t good enough it might show we’re in the market for a winger at least.

  26. Bradster says:

    Morning all,

Good post George, our game is really narrow and one dimensional.

My thinking is that there’s no one for Sagna to aim for in the box. He could send an aimless ball in like the rest do but I reckon sagna waits for Giroud and by then the full back has got in the way.

I still agree with ts. If Arshavin was given Cazorla’s free role would their play be any different? AA has a killer shot from outside the box, plenty assists in the past from precise balls, great ball control and neither can tackle.

  27. George says:

    Thanks Kev,

Re Fabianski, Hes playing to attract a club when he is released.

We will “Can” Mannone, loan out Chezza and Buy a proper goalie Stekelenberg mould.

James Shea may be moved on as well as Martinez may be promoted to No2

  28. devilgunner says:

Good Morning my Esteemed Fellow Gunners.

Nice read George. We do need one or two proper wingers. Gibbs might already be an answer if he is played in front of Nacho.

    Hiya Kev, evening Scott.

Cech, Valdez, Begovic etc etc etc. I think that next season will see Chezzer and Flappy still at the club. Yes Kev, I still think he will be offered a new contract.

  29. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning Devil.
    I want Fabianski to stay.
I remain a big fan of his.
He as a lot to prove, but i reckon that is the positive for him.

  30. George says:

Morning Bradster, Couldn’t agree more re Arshavin.

Something going on there, as He is still a class act but does not get the chances lesser players do.

You could have a point re Sagna waiting for Giroud to come into the box and as he isnt the quickest the full backs recover…

I watched the 49 dvd 2 nights ago and when Lauren or Cashley put a cross in we had 3 runners into the box.If it was over hit the LW/RW would nab it Ljungberg or Pires, and if it was decent enough Henry would have a go, or if it was behind him a galloping Vieira would head in..

Funny how narrow we have become

  31. Scott from Oz says:

Sagna continually hits the defender with his crosses.
This is not an issue with Girouds positioning.

  32. Dick Swiveller says:

I don’t think Arshavin being left out is a mystery, his fitness simply isn’t up to scratch so he can’t play that often or for that long; I think he’s the kind guy that needs to play regularly to get into the groove too, so when he can’t it’s almost not worth playing him, ever.

Incidentally, Santi might not be able to tackle (he’s not an awful tackler from what I’ve seen, anyway) but by God, he can run and chase which is almost as useful from a forward.

  33. Lewis says:

    Morning people,

Nice post George. I agree we do need proper wingers, especially seeing as our formation basically means we need two. Ox could do a good job there, but it would seem he’s being primed for a more central role. I wish we’d got hazard, that lad is awesome.
So summer wish list growing all the time:
    Experienced GK
    Top CB
    Top DM
    Top Winger
    And a top CF

Not too much to ask is it?! 😉

  34. Bradster says:

I don’t agree Scott, the rest of the team cross early but no one is ever on the end of it. If it’s not looped into the middle then it’s over cooked.

  35. rico says:

    Kev – your 10.49, I hope so 😉

Yossi showed us what having a proper winger can do.

I wanted us to get Ashley Young….

  36. George says:

in a win, yes Bendtnersgone…but in the post i was referring to the “sloppy defeats” in those games we had like over a dozen corners …only to get doen by the other teams 1 or 2 chances from ironically a set piece.

I thought of drafting a post on our set pieces , as I wonder in disbelief why on earth Theo takes EVERYTHING.

Granted he takes a corner as he won’t win the header but the freekicks?

Isn’t he better off hovering round the far post , 6 yard box hoping to pick up a giroud or Kos header/Flick on?

  37. rico says:

Bg, I think we scored one earlier in the season too, near post knock on and then headed home.

Can’t recall who did which bit though 😉

  38. rico says:

Trouble is George, TW is the only player who seems capable of taking corners, but even the quality of his have dipped.

TV from right and Jenks from the left could be an option, then leg it back into position 😉

  39. devilgunner says:

Theo the only one capable of corners??

That has to be the greatest joke ever.

Is he too small to be involved in the six yard box? Oh jeeezzz do not make me laugh. I do not recall Michael Owen taking corners, he lurked in the six yard box or the far post. Or near the D.

Arteta can take corners. Cazorla can take corners.

For heaven’s sake these FEKKINNG things are coached. No one is born with them.

  40. rico says:

Not at all devil, every other player struggles to get passed the defender…

But I do think you are right, things like corners and free kicks don’t appear as if much thought has gone into them.

Hit and hope seems the Arsenal way….

  41. George says:

You right about hit and hope Rico

@devil, Gervinho aside(even he doesnt know what he’s gonna do), they should be undedrstanding each others game better by now..

    Definately a coaching issue

  42. stevepalmer1 says:

After noon all, Good post George, i make you right about wingers i can see nothing quite as exciting as a good winger chargeing down the wing, Defences hate it especially if the guy can cross and dribble. People think that a centre forward spearheads the attack but in all honesty wingers have done that job since football was created. Good wingers will always be in front of the centre forward and usually have to pass backwards to pass the ball. Wingers are an art form when they know their positions guys with speed guys that can take a knock tenacious little buggers like a Terrier with a ball . Any winger worth his salt can cross a good ball while in full flight they look up and instinctivly they know where their target is and get it there. Unfortunatly the guy i thought may turned out to be a great, Now thinks his a CF. Having sad that , he never looks up never tackles never dribbles and very seldom uses the speed he’s blessed with, why we extended his contract I’ll never know, In my eyes he has let us down badly for all the support we have always afforded him.
As for guys leaving, and top guys at that, the only thing i can think of is interferance, not being trusted to do the job well. These guys who are leaving are true Arsenal blood experienced people they have been hero’s here so why leave. Wenger is a magnificent Manager but he wants to be in charge of everything and that is not allowing these guys to do what their good at.

  43. Bradster says:

Theo is too worried about spear hearding the attack and running onto balls through the middle or to feet. If he just watched Henry he would see that he hardly ever attacked teams through the middle. It was always from a wing and used his pace and skill to come inside.

I agree with Devil, corners are coached, the shape and pace on the ball.

  44. stevepalmer1 says:

Trouble is Bradster that we use players out of position and expect them to do a top job and it doesn’t work. Arshaven on the wing when he should have been in the hole Ramsey midfield then left back then inside and we moan about performances. If we brought the right players for the positions we could then judge them properly you can’t moan at players when out of position trying their best. We have Needed a DM for a couple of seasons what does Wenger do sell our only decent proper DM (song) and buy players who i still don’t know their best positions.

  45. Wavy says:

Perhaps the old brigade who are leaving have just had enough! Not necessarily of Wenger and the club, but they are just worked out! They have reached their sell by date and have decided to all go together or rather within a year or so of each other. One out all out. Happy as a complete unit, a “team”! Not too happy working with “new boys”. In it together out of it together.
Unless my eyes were deceiving me, Pat Rice was at the spuds game, spectating. Gone but not entirely.
Same with many other ex players or staff, like bad pennies they keep turning up from time to time.
I do not think anyone can draw any strange conclusions from them all leaving, sort of together. It’s what happens when there is a large staff of long term employees. You turn round one day to find that all the old trustees have retired. They have retired because they are tired! The clue is in the word! “Retired”!!
Time the younger guns came along with new ideas and fresh enthusiasm to fire up the tired old routines. Every dog has its day!(sorry about that Rico, but they do!)
The old guard are gone, long live the new guard!

  46. rico says:

Totally agree, apart from those who seldom play or train, they should all know what each other is thinking by now…

    But I bet they don’t….

  47. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Hi all, as you know I am a massive fan of Wingers but football is changing in such a way that you rarely see the traditional wingers like George Armstrong types. Now you don’t get the old back four, teams use their full backs as wing backs/wingers. A better description would be defenders who push into wide midfield. 4-5-1 (4-3-3) is really 2-5-3 when we have the ball or thereabouts. Same is true with the old CF. How many teams play with a big target man, not that many. So wingers have become largely redundant.

The problem you are therefore going to get is the lack of quality in the wing play and crossing that at times is awful. Plus as Steve P says the crosses are made from angles in front of the penalty area, as opposed to the byline, which is not as hard to defend and means the strikers are having to rotate or flick to get any power into the header as opposed to heading a ball that is coming onto them at pace. These guys are really defenders and part time wingers. Jenks and Gibbs are better at it than Sagna, that is for sure.

With arsenal you will see Pod/Ramsey/Gerv/Theo etc playing wide but supporting the lone striker. Ramsey tends to stay wide when he plays there but these guys are not used as wingers, they tuck in. They are asked to do a different role.

Hitting the first defender from a cross is a crime but as you have said on here, it happens regularly. No excuse, these guys should have teh basic skills to cross the ball. Others are floated crosses, what a waste of time they are. And don’t get me started on theo’s delivery, it is shocking. Playing with your head up is crucial, as too is hitting that area between the 6 yard line and penalty spot, always coached to do that.

I was a schoolboy and youth team winger for several years before being released and playing non-league football as a right winger, before injury so it is close to my heart. We were told to beat the full back, hit the byline and fire in a cross high or low for the strikers to run onto. killer on the cartilages, hence my injury. You would get shot if you crossed from just past the half way line or looped crosses into the box. Hitting the first man was also looked upon as a sin. Basic stuff really. Dying art in the modern systems but you can’t beat a winger flying past a full back.

  48. devilgunner says:

We all praise SAF for changing his coaches every few years. But when one of ours leave we grumble. Then when a group leave we think there is something going on.

I think the reason is simple really. There will be an overhaul of the backroom staff. Wilson, Rice, Brady………all old school football. Yes they are legends and will rightly remain so. But new faces and new methods need to take over now.

I am not too fussed about it. What if they are replaced by….wait for it……….Bergkamp, Overmars. Pires, Van Basten etc? Would we grumble about it?

Would we grumble having Gilberto at the club?

Would we grumble having a spanish or a brazilian or a dutch coach or coaches?

    No.

  49. George says:

KJ, I echo your sentiments and thoughts . I too, played at a high level and was released at 17 as a right Winger. I suppose I fell into the Theo Walcott description. I ran the 100m at 11.10 and my finishing was A grade. I scored bundles of goals , whinged to my coaches at Palace and Brentford to play me upfront only to get bundled off the ball. I would get dropped or subbed if my crossing didnt beat the first defender or find my strikers coming in. I also remeber getting the bolocking of a century if I didnt beat my man or at least run back (with that speed ) to get the ball back.

Theo should get that rollicking too. He has it too too good.
Eventually I was replaced by a less prolific winger who would track back and he made a bundle in football and I last kicked a football for Chelmsford in the 8th division …

  50. devilgunner says:

Kevin, a winger is not a dying art. It is a killed art. Why? Because as you said the lateral attackers are now told to come inside and let the full backs stay outside.

I play the 4-3-3 differently. I play it in a 4-1-2-3 system with the wingers staying outside while the fullbacks cut inside to provide triangles and at the same time leave the centrebacks and DM back to provide cover in case of a break away attack from the opposition. It is a sound tactic and provides necessary cover while it leaves the wingers out to stretch defences while there are two players behind the centreforward who provide a triangle and wait for the knockdowns.

  51. allezkev says:

Hiya Coach. Yeah, a good run of performances, could well see Fabianski get a new contract.
All these goalkeeping rumours could be a diversion, with Wenger signing a striker instead.
It’s all a case of smoke and mirrors for AW in the transfer market.

  52. Kevin KJ Downton says:

DG – Killed art probably describes it better! Bergkamp back at the club would be something else! George, I was at Fulham and Orient as a lad, before deciding girls were more fun. How wrong can you be!

  53. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Hi Rico, some good posts today on the technical art of football. It is definitely a changing game.

I had to sort one of my players out for his Nike footwear. like bits of skin they were. Not like my Puma Kings 🙂 His girlfriend bought them and paid over £120 for the priviledge, bright orange too. I told him that if someone stands on his foot he would be in agony. Lost him for the rest of the season due to a metatarsal injury. Things change but not always for the best.

  54. rico says:

George – you were nothing like Walcott, you said you scored bundles of goals 😉

See you devil, take it steady…

  55. George says:

Like Walcott in the sense i could run and shoot and had this warped idea i was destines to be a centre forward once i went past the 15 goal mark. In my 4 years, i got 19,11 at palace then,19 and 11at Brentford..each time thinking id made it already..

Walcott probably wont score again this season lol ..”.sign da ting” and we got nothing.

  56. rico says:

Nothing wrong with Nike Kj, my Tempo’s served me well during my playing days 😆

They were black too, unlike these rather bright colours in today’s game

  57. rico says:

George, if he plays against Reading, I bet gets at least one goal 😉

Didn’t realise you played to such a level. Best you feed me some gossip to write about 😉

  58. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Rico – Tiempos, they are leather so fine by me! I had a pair of Ronaldinos but didn’t make me play like him.

  59. George says:

i am halfway looking into Stan Kroenkes Wages..

rico, I was one of many talented kids, and now through chance and through youth football and scouts I am involved at an ealr y mgr level looking to do stage 3 coaching. At 36 , and 14 stone, no more footy for me lol, other than the odd powerleague or as a ringer for Vets footy in Herts and Essex.

I did play with john Lukic in a 5 a side tournament a few years back. What a goalie-very underrated. we lost in the final comprehensively 3-0. Ashley young was in that side (he was on Luton’s books) and it was Kings estate agents charity tournament.

How I wished we had him. I couldnt even land a kick on him he was that quick lol

  60. George says:

KJ I had ronaldinhos ..nice leathers blues, but the studs would easily unscrew and you’d lose 1 almost every other game!

Tiempos a much better boot though…

  61. Kevin KJ Downton says:

George – I had to give up playing around ten years ago, aged forty. Degenerate knee condition, virtually no cartilage in my right knee, which I damaged in my twentys and gradually got worse. I manage a first division side in Sunday league and train with them but knee balloons and I am on anti-inflams for a few days. Got to have a new knee but they say I am too young! I think I could have made it, just lost interest in my teens, I could kick myself but that’s life. Not as quick as you but I could skin anyone and could cross a mean ball. I scored loads too, nothing like that feeling is there? These players are so lucky, what a life, need a wage cap big time.

  62. rico says:

Callum McManaman is facing no action by the FA for his tackle on Massadio Haidara.

    This is outrageous!!!

  63. George says:

Hi Kev, get Adam and KJ in and we’ll coach them..

Transvestite toad with Football league experience lol

  64. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Rico – Callum McManaman. I told you!!!

It is a complete joke and makes a mockery of the desire to remove bad tackles. All we get are soft yellows and sending offs for nothings. The world has gone mad, nobody ever gets punished any more.

  65. allezkev says:

KJ, I,be not seen that Mcmanaman, but I understand he escaped a ban as the tackle was seen by one of the Linesmen….

If so, then that Official should be banned for 5 games.

  66. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Kev – It is a joke. So what if the lineman saw it, what difference does that make. The FA is an ass. That was a shocking tackle, forget the technicalities, set an example.

On a lighter note, I heard that a lorry load of frogs broke down in London and had to be toad away.

  67. tsgh says:

    Evening all,

    morning Scott & Oz 😀

Very good post George. I am surprise you think Pat Rice has not returned to the club since he left… I believe he works as some sort of ambassador and scout for us on part-time basis… He was always present at the u-19 games at the beginning of the season. Even his lady attended the Marseille game with Brady, AW and Boro…

  68. stevepalmer1 says:

FA are wamkers and so are their bought refs. Dfiferent outcome had it been an Arsenal man that tackled, probably would never be seen again.

  69. stevepalmer1 says:

They are as rotten as a pear Adam, Unless your a UTD fan who’s team cannot do any wrong. I would lay money that whatever top team we may get Utd would still be ahead of us.

  70. tsgh says:

What would you do if you won the lottery? Quit your job? Go on luxury holidays around the world? Buy a mansion? 42-year-old Roger Griffiths did all of those things, and now he hasn’t got anything left.- Roger Griffiths’ comedown from millionaire dream

  71. rico says:

smudge – this is your very last chance!!

No more youtube clips, no more silly comments, just stick to football or something which isn’t annoying!!

  72. rico says:

If it was Euros, I sign some afc shares Ts…

Spot on Sp, but i thought Pardew was one of their blue eyed ones…..

  73. Scott from Oz says:

    I haven’t seen it.
Was it as bad as Balotelli on Diaby last year?
    Same loophole, same outcome.
When a players leg is broken, will they finally act?
    Good morning all.

  74. tsgh says:

De Jong broke Hatem Ben Arfa leg and he was made a ‘reserve player’… now plying his trade in Serie A… the rest get a wink and pat on the back…

  75. tsgh says:

Sir Bobby Charlton plays down Jack Wilshere hype-
“I think he’s just too young. It’s just too soon for him on the world stage,” Charlton is quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard. “Arsenal have a lot of young players, and very good young players at that, but there’s something that’s just not quite right, it seems to me.

“Don’t get me wrong, Jack Wilshere is a great player but there are lots of great, even greater, players on the world stage, who are outperforming him. He’s still a young lad who needs more time and we’d be wrong to pin all our hopes and expectations on him.”

    mind his own business

  76. rico says:

    Bobby C.

I won’t call you Sir Bobby because that belongs to Bobby Robson…

Push off and concentrate on all things Rooney!!

I’m off for the day folks, have a good evening…

    Night Ts, Scott and all…..

    ‘Til tomorrow

  77. tsgh says:

The funny thing is the Alan Hansens of the tv world said during the 2010 WC final match between Holland and Spain that such brutality was not football but a few months later they were saying how Arsenal were soft on TV…

Additionally, when you google the first FA rules on football published 100 odd years ago, it appears football was always a non-contact game until recently…

  78. George says:

    G’Morning all..

Lets hope the Internationals bring no bad news for us…

re Jack W Rumour , he will be back in a month at the worst case scenario
