Wenger 'throwing tie' as Fabianski replaces Szczesny & No start for Walcott, Mertesacker or Cazorla either…

Morning all,

Well here we are then, the last last chance to remain in a competition for a trophy is here.

Things were looking up it seemed.

Frank Ribery looks like missing out through injury, his natural replacement, Robben is also injured and of course, Jerome Boateng and Bastian Schweinsteiger are both suspended.

So things were already looking better than they were in London.

I get the feeling Wenger has already said goodbye to this slim chance and is concentrating on the league:

Swansea is a massive game this weekend and qualifying for the Champions League is massive.

Add that comment to the news about Jack Wilshere, Lukas Podolski and Sagna being ruled out and Diaby being a doubt and it’s already looking grim. Then though Wenger plans to leave Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla on the bench. Per Mertesacker won’t be involved at all and nor will Szczesny, he’s been dropped rested. Fabianski returns and is likely to start.

Even when Fabianski has been playing regular football, he’s been full of errors, costly errors but this season, I don’t think he’s played one game for the first team, yet he’s being thrown in at the deep end against a German side who are full of quality.

Fabianski lacked confidence before this game, what the heck will this do to him?

It’s cruel on the player, really cruel in my opinion and it’s not fair on the rest of the team travelling to Germany.

The other option of course is starting with Mannone. He was on the bench for the fixture at The Emirates but is that option much better. I’d say not!

Our goalkeeping situation is a joke, no, it’s embarrassing!

That situation and the comments from the manager about this squad makes me raise an eyebrow:

I have great belief in the quality of my players, when I look individually at this team, they have a fantastic attitude. We are in the opposite situation to Bayern a little bit.

I am convinced that if this team can find a big game, with a big win, you will see a completely different animal.

This season we have fought to find that in the big games and we have another opportunity on Wednesday night and I hope the team takes this chance.

I have a great respect for this team and its attitude and they have not been rewarded yet. It is important for the end to our season that we do it.
So what is Wenger saying there, we have a great bunch of individuals who can’t quite work together to make us a great team? We fight in the big games? What like losing at home to Man City and Chelsea with ease, allowing the neighbours to score two really soft goals to win the NLD? Let’s not mention other fixtures we have just rolled over in, or the two domestic cups shall we?
That’s hardly fighting in the big games is it, but if we are to stay in this competition, this team does need a big game, but not only the players.
Wenger needs a big game too.
He picked tonight’s squad, it’s full of players he signed, no-one else but him. The same players who he says are top class and have great mental spirit, togetherness and attitude.
Well it’s high time he managed to get all of those qualities out of each and every player and on the same night, tonight!
Anything else could just do a lot more harm than it will good.
That’s it for today, good luck to the boys tonight, I think they are truly going to need it….
Have a good day all…..

  1. Adam says:

Morning Rico. Let’s hope this is the last CL fixture that Wenger has at Arsenal. All you say is true. If ever a club needed a new direction it is the stale institution that is Arsenal these days.

  2. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all, Nice one Rico,
Its massive to qualify for Champions league but not massive to win it. So its all about the money then. Kinda tells you where were heading doesn’t it.

  3. rico says:

    Morning Adam, Sp and all….

It is stale, and it’s boring isn’t it….

It’s only about the money we made getting into the CL, never about having a squad that could truly win it….

  4. Philbet says:

All this club needs is a few more ‘supporting’ fans and blog writers.
Regarding Keepers, when someone spots this Goliath, mistake free, game changing, mythical type who controls a ‘force field’ in front of his goal posts a player who only exists in the minds of the moaners, then please point him out because I have never seen one play for any team ever.

  5. Bradster says:

    Hi all,

Ok so we threw the FA cup away preparing for CL and now we’re throwing that away so we can try get back into this tournament next year.

I don’t mind Pod, Mert and Cazorla rested. I believe we do have players that can do well in the right formation.
I think pace is really important tonight, Walcott needs to play and perhaps Ox too as no pressure if Swansea is a major game.

Will Gibbs be fit to play tonight?

  6. stevepalmer1 says:

Pleased to see Czezesney Dropped or Rested but devastated to hear that Fabianski is his replacement, (haven’t we brought a keeper yet) Resting Jack for a Champions league game only to play him against Swansea. (Man we need a new manager) Mertsacker not travelling, Sagna too possibly why not just phone them and not bother travelling at all. ( we can’t beat you so were saving ourselves for next year) What has this club become.

  7. rico says:

I think it needs a bit more than that Phillbet.

How about direction, tactics, motivation, organisation and a bit of financial input and better quality of players??

An owner with ambition and a manager who shares that ambition…

Supporting fans, of course we are supporting of the club, the club runs deeper than it’s manager and players you know…

  8. Bradster says:

Not sure what your point is Philbet. Why does a keeper need a rest? Hmmm sure does get tiring manning that 18 yards of his, I guess.

We don’t need the mystical creature you mention, just one that plays like other teams seem to have. Oh and he must try be Maradonna from the back to add to your list.

  9. Lee says:

It just shows you what Arsenal F.C’s intentions are….five of my mates have travelled to Munich for the tie, they should be reimbursed! It’s a joke…

  10. rico says:

Exactly Brad, the CL was the biggy, yet most fans wanted one of the domestic cubs, both were actually possible but no, we blew it!

I bet Gibbs starts, big risk, but I bet he does….

Suggestion is Flappy will start Sp, it’s a joke isn’t it.

  11. g c says:

How do you know the keeper will have a bad game its people like you that have ruined many a football players confidence at arsenal

  12. stevepalmer1 says:

Philbet, sorry we have not come up to your expectations, 8 years may seem like a drop in the ocean for you but some of us still want to see Arsenal competing to win trophies not just qualifying. You support your way and leave the rest of us to push for change

  13. Bradster says:

Know what the worst is that Tottenham, Chelsea and Man U went into their European games looking to win, we’re just going to go roll over and play dead.

We need TV to be rested, at least Arteta might get some fight out of the second stringers that he needs a trophy before he retires and this is their best chance this season.

  14. potter says:

We are watching the death throes of the Wenger era, I have always been one of his defenders and I have blamed the board for the starvation of sufficient funds to do all that was required but now the man is unable to know which way to turn. He has lost it and should go gracefully and leave the club and it’s supporters to work out which way to go in the future.

  15. Joywedsjeff says:

What is happening to arsenal fans these days… They are becoming worse than their manager. Can anyone make a sincere case that any of the players dropped will win us the match tonight? Imagine if we lose with a full strenght team? The low confidence will simply expire and we wont be able to push spurs and chelsea for that fourth spot. We accuse wenger of not being ruthless and now we crucify him for being one. The message to the players who have been dropped from such a great fixture is that either perform or risk being dropped or sold. Our young pole has had ten days of rest yet he was dropped? I think he and the rest of our players are being sent a message and we will see their response against swansea. Whoever starts tonight has to play well. The team has flaws and i hold wenger responsible for that but on this occasion and considering the circumstance i think he has done the right thing.

  16. Scott from Oz says:

    Just a second guys.
After losing to Bradford and Blackburn with strong sides, nearly every Gooner suggested we should have tried some of the benchwarmers and younger guys as at least they may show some fight.
Now Wenger is doing it and who is giving up the fight…..the fans!!!
Come on, you can’t have it both ways.
    Morning all.

  17. Steve says:

Didn’t need to read the post – it’s all in the headline.

What you have to remember is the ambition of Wenger Utd is to qualify for the CL, not to win it.

  18. Scott from Oz says:

And before anyone tells me we shold ot be in his situation, don’t bother, because i know that but we have the players we have.

  19. Scott from Oz says:

    Steve, get serious.
We played our best available in the cups and did no good.
    Short memories!!!

  20. rico says:

We have got to the point where we don’t look confident in any games. Arsene Wenger says the players have great mental attitude, well I don’t see it. I think they are very very frail and have lost belief….

  21. Bradster says:

Really? We would prefer a weaker side against Bayern? Yes maybe against the lower leagues because our prestigious players believed they could steam roll them by showing up.
My take on your comparison is: how did we do in Greece with a weakened side?

  22. rico says:

jeff, it’s the keeper situation that really irks me, really irks me, we are going to play a guy who hasn’t played all season.

And I fear for the players should they be on the receiving end of a hiding.

  23. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, i do agree on the Fabianski situation.
    I can’t work it out.
Are we putting him on show for an interested German side??

  24. Bradster says:

Only because the first teamers showed no interest and put in zero effort. They will be up for this one.

  25. Scott from Oz says:

    We want our best side.
We all agree our best side isn’t good enough.
What is the point of playing them when hey cold not get abresult at home?
    Why risk injuries?
Yes, we need a squad rebuild.
    Did i miss anything 🙂

  26. Scott from Oz says:

Had to be one, hey Rico lol
Bradster, sorry mate, but they should be up for every game, and if they can’t produce, then should not be rewarded with a CL berth, imo.

  27. Scott from Oz says:

Emma, we have a chance only if we get an early penalty resulting in a red card.
Not much of a chance, but what the hell…..you never know.

  28. rico says:

Emma, I have to agree it’s pretty much a dead rubber, but if we listen/read what Wenger says, he thinks we can win and we are taking the match seriously…..

    He contradicts himself so much…

  29. stevepalmer1 says:

Most supporters would say that Wenger was one of the best Managers football has seen, many would say that his innovative style has changed and bettered English football. Where Wenger was never frightened to speak his mind and strove to transform fitness health training and style. He now tries to tell lifelong supporters that the players we have, are good enough to win trophies, while telling us that they lack confidence. The season is three quarters gone we are out of everything almost, and the chances of making top four looks impossible. The man has never come out and said we do not have funds available and has gone along with Gazedes and the like when they say funds are available but he hasn’t changed our diminishing players. just for that he needs to be changed he is either lying or has lost it, and supporters need somebody to believe in and it isn’t Wenger.

  30. rico says:

Far too complacent in the domestic cups Bradster, they thought they just had to turn up…

    Bit like the CC final….

  31. George says:

Morning all, Id take the dodgy Uzbek all day…

Not sure about the team selection. We are resting players for a league game against a good but not brilliant Swansea side. Shocking to see what we have become.

As for supporting those carthorses in Germany,i will always support the Arsenal even if we have unworthys wearing the famous shirt.

Can’t say I agree with Philbet

Its not fans like us who kill players careers, they are responsible for their showings and non showings. Wenger is responsible for getting this lot in. We can only hope they repay thee boss. Hope is a BIG word.

  32. rico says:

But Scott, the manager has to take responsibility too, he should prepare them for such games and motivate them to perform.

Of course they should be able to do that for themselves, but clearly, they can’t. Wenger isn’t earning his money right now….

  33. Joywedsjeff says:

Yes Rico…neither of our goalkeepers should be anywhere near our first team. But i dont think we will be beaten 8-2. Today’s match is more about our workrate than talent and i think Wenger recognizes it. We can’t match bayern for talent even at our best but with a high workrate we can leave with a creditable result. We could do with ten ramsey’s tonight.

  34. rico says:

Sp, Wenger was all those things, but he’s stuck in those glory years, thinking that today’s players can play like the great team we once had.

    They can’t.

We should be playing a different way, to the strengths of players, the tactics to help them flourish, not just throw them onto the pitch and say get on with it…

Wenger has undone all the great he did and unless he wakes up one morning and realises this, we are never going to improve under his leadership….

  35. Steve says:

Scott, we dont have a squad to take us to the finals of all the cup competitions and get us over the finishing line in the EPL. They are not equipped physically or mentally for the task.

Every season Wenger fails to rotate at the right time and he then gambles on the fitness of a few individuals. As of today we have the prospect of trying to catch Spurs and Chelsea without a goalkeeper – that’s not Stan’s fault !

  36. Scott from Oz says:

I am off to for the night guys.
It is disappointing to see we can find so much wrong with the club and so little right, but it is what it is.
Still, i think we can find a massive positive in a good showing tomorrow, win, lose or draw.
I would say have a great day guys, but morbid lt have our minds made up on that one 🙂
    FIRE UP FELLOW GOONERS!!!!

  37. JOEL says:

The Manager is turning the Club into a joke! Why not get rid of all the better players (some still reside at the club) and just have a team capable of finishing mid-table in the Premier League. That way Arsenal would reduce it’s wages and its overhead whilst offsetting the drop in revenue for the Champions League. The Club would maintain the same levels of profitability and wouldn’t have to bother about competing in Europe at all. Then of course,we don’t “compete” in Europe anyway,we simply play a series of friendlies before arriving at the crucial knock-out stage and promptly get “knocked-out”-without so much as a whimper. The players and the manager seem to have lost all respect for the fans.Yet many still support him. What’s the point of this ridiculous vicious circle that the Club are caught within:-
PLAY AGAINST PREMIER LEAGUE TEAMS-WIN ENOUGH MATCHES TO COME IN THE TOP FOUR-NEVER ENOUGH TO WIN A TROPHY-PLAY IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE-GET ELIMINATED FROM THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE-PLAY IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE!!
The liklihood is that the circle is about to close and Arsenal will not play in the Champions League next year-and unless the Manager is replaced by someone with the right philosophy-someone who wants and knows how the win;who is prepared to look at the opposition and work out the best way to beat them;someone who is prepared to bring players to the Club who want to give their all in every single game;someone who wants to bring trophies to the club and not embarrassing excuses!

  38. Lee says:

We’ve needed a squad rebuild since 2006 but all AW has done is weaken us by selling our best players and replacing them with wankers…..

  39. George says:

What would really hurt is a line up like this:

    Flapper
    Jenks miguel TV5 Meade
    Coq Diaby
    ox TR Klingon
    Theo

Still @ Lee, at least your mates will enjoy the beer there. THey are a good bunch those Bavarians

  40. emma says:

rico – quite agree on that but we don’t expect him to come out and say we stand no chance. AW knows that bar miracle arsenal stands no chance. If we are to believe the media on resting some key players, that simply contradicts what he has said in the presser. Even when the so-called first teamers played in the first leg they were steam rolled by bayern. Not just bayern but have disappointed against (manure, chavs, scums, dippers etc)

There is something fishing about Szezesny situation, we will get to find out this weekend if he will be b/w the post v Swansea or eventually dropped

  41. Scott from Oz says:

    Steve, exactly as predicted.
We have the players we have, and that is what my comments revolved around.
You ignore the fact i clearly said we needed a squad rebuild.
    Good night.

  42. rico says:

jeff, to be honest, those coming in tonight may just have a point to prove, could make for a good game. We’ll see.

    Night Scott….

  43. George says:

    rico , signing them …

After tonight, they will all be ruined 1 way or another..

Oh well, roll on next season

  44. rico says:

emma, i agree he’s not going to say we stand no chance, at times like this i wish he’d say very little 😉

Re Ches, I think Wenger has lost faith in him. Hopefully, a keeper will be one of the first in in June…

  45. stevepalmer1 says:

To be quite honest i feel that we can win tonight, as lets face it we have been written off, our performances have been appalling this season and our position in the league is unbelievable considering. But because we are the underdogs and we look to have no chance at all, i believe we will pull out a good performance, We need 3 goals with none against and that is possible, but we need teamwork and no mistakes can this team produce that Maybe not, but the travelling fans will believe we can, and i support them..

  46. Adam says:

To all the parachutists who drop in here to have a moan that some of us aren’t blindly following Arsene Wenger’s view of Arsenal and for those Ostriches who think that disagreeing with Wenger is tantamount to being either ungrateful or disloyal I would ask this. Please, please give me a list of reasons that Wenger should still be our manager. Go on, list them and let me see your agument rather than just spouting some load of nonsense about those who doubt him being is some way responsible for what you perceive as a lack of confidence from the players.
The reason that we are putting out tonight’s team of young millionaires is because we don’t have a very good squad and that is because one man has decided that we do, despite all evidence to the contrary.

  47. stevepalmer1 says:

If i was the Manager tonight i would ban our defenders going up for set pieces i would make sure that breakaways were covered. I would rely on my forwards to fight for every ball and i would expect my midfield to put extra effort in attack and defence. tonight’s game will be about fitness work .rate and belief we have to overpower them in every position Expect nothing from the Ref. This game is all about grit and we have to be prepared for 95 minutes of hard slog. I would use my substitutes as new legs for when players have given their all. Do that and still lose will give supporters hope for the future roll over and were doomed.

  48. George says:

SP, I 2nd that..we need a proper Midfield shift if we are to leave Germany with some respect.

As Adam , quite rightly questions , reasons for Wenger still being in charge?…Can’t think of any…He signed that tosh, so he is responsible

He had a go , not credible any more, and at any other club would have been sacked by now.

Thanks for the good times, but they seem like a long time ago …

  49. frednerk says:

    Afternoon all
Enjoyed reading the post lately well done all of yer.

Over the weekend wenger made a statement regarding our Jack.

He said the trouble with Jack is ………….

He wants to play in every game,
    and do you know why,

    He is a winner……

    Well I agree with him.
At last we agree on something

  50. stevepalmer1 says:

George Missed your fine post yesterday, as i was out all day, but bloody good effort, i know its your first but i will expect a lot more good stuff from you 🙂
Yes i must agree, he seems to have lost the magic, but the old bugger has pulled a few good ones out the hat as well. Here’s hoping. 🙂 🙂

  51. stevepalmer1 says:

Hi FredN Rico does a fine job, hard to write positive stuff when we all know were not at our best. Positivity is fine when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but just lately the end of the tunnel is still out of sight. Wenger is annoying but sometimes he does surprise us. 🙂

  52. Gunnerdna says:

Adam your 11:11 comment is a realistic and honest 1. I have noticed a few who seems less interested in the success of the squad and more concerned with AW legacy, which is tarnishing the reputation of the club. Adam there is no reason for AW to keep his job at afc….

  53. emma says:

Love our away fans. Hope they come back happy today.
‘There were 7 tottenham pts(scum) in the gap’ And the pts from the arsenal shut the gap’

  54. George says:

    Emma , V good mind the gap…lol

    Thanks SteveP,

Hope you like the 2nd one…

Tonight we will see which Arsenal turn up..

  55. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Morning sp – No manager would ever come out and say his players are not good enough. Wenger knows they aren’t but he isn’t going to say it. He admitted you can’t be successful if you sell your best players.

I agree that the current squad is not good enough but with a few World Class Players in key positions, now that we can compete for them, it will make a massive difference. In my opinion, we couldn’t have a better manager in place. (I can hear the grinding teeth as I type this Steve!)

I am happy to post my reasons for being positive about the future and why there is light at the end of the tunnel, as you indicate in your post.

As long as you want me to be brave enough and you promise I won’t be put in the naughty corner 🙂

  56. tsgh says:

    Afternoon all,

Joywed, Scott, Emma, Philbet – ditto

This morning tonnes of Arsenal fans called in to Talkshite to repeat the same all gibberish. Romford Pele as the guest host even said the rumours of SB being blackballed by AW is rubbish but I guess the fans choose to listen to the lies of a WHU fan instead…

The other point people keep going on about was that only a clueless manager would play Ramsey at RB…. are they being serious? When CJ25 was on we conceded 2 goals when Ramsy played there how many goals did we conceded. Parlour also asked if they knew Valencia and Carrick have been used at RB by rednose several times?

  57. tsgh says:

Emma re 10:52 am Ray Parlour went as far as saying that AW agrees a lot of his players are not good enough…

  58. emma says:

I believe this summer will define what happens to arsene. I will still give him a chance. He said 2 wks ago that this is the first time that we have money to spend. Lets see what he does in the summer. Just 2 days ago arteta said this: ‘We want to be better and next season we want to get more points, which means we will have won more games. I think the board know that and, hopefully, this summer we’ll do something about it.’
Just spoken to a reliable friend of mine who has inside info. He informed me that there will be wholesome changes in the summer. Wenger wont be able to hide behind the curtain anymore because there is money to spend. The board are willing to compel him to improve the squad and move it forward. He said for the first time we might break our player purchase record

  59. ozgunner10 says:

emma – he’s said a lot of things over a lot of years and his ‘we finally have money to spend’ is simply a another load of… and a reaction to being found out – He wouldn’t know a world class player if he fell over one any more, let alone buy one. World Class players want success and to play with other world class players, what can he offer now having sold them all to top up the 100m plus player accounts?

  60. tsgh says:

If he qualifies for CL nothing will change.

    Btw, I believe your post…

Last season AW thought he had money to spend. In fact that was one reason Rice decided to postponed his retirement for another year so that with more money to spend a younger Asst. Manager will not have as much pressure because a better team will be in place.

What happened then? The board were unwilling to let VP run down his contract when the board and everyone in football knew only 1 striker in the whole of European can be poached to reasonably replace VP.Rednose tried but failed so that means we would not have a chance either.

As PHW always says AW does magic and what he does is unbelievable. The board were counting on AW to somehow turn a tractor into a Ferrari…. but he can’t be lucky every single time. Even Simon Magus run out of magic and tried to buy some from Simon Peter… 😀

When we look at it, even though we bought SC19 we actually made a profit again…

As always the board will look at the balance sheet and the potential sale revenue of a player and sell. just a thought!

  61. tsgh says:

Hi Oz, so what would the magic coach you have in mind to replace AW have to offer to entice the WC players you are hoping for?

  62. NashuaGunners says:

Kevin KJ Downton: Come on Kevin the curious minds are waiting for the reasons ‘Why AW should keep his job?’.

Don tell us because he has been force to sell his best players every season, even though he tried hard to retain them…Cesc Fabregas and Nasri, for example. We know that already

Don’t tell us we have not spent as much as Chelsea, Liverpool and ManCity but yet we still maintain 4th place and qualify for CL for the past 16 years and counting. Even Everton has spent more than us but still mid-table. Even though Spurs spent more than us and 10 points ahead of us last season, we still able to catch them and beat them.

Don’t tell us Stan doesn’t care as long as we are ‘Sustainable’? We already know that . And please don’t tell us we have NEVER bought the ‘So called World Class Players’, because we all know they cost more than 30M plus. We been known to sell world class but not to buy world class.

And please while you are at it, don’t compare SAF and AW. RVP alone cost 24M. And someone at the top authorized him to sell to our rival and they are at the top of the table. But this we already know.

Please don’t tell me AW is happy the way we been humiliated as a team in the pitch and by the media. And how disrespectful even some fans have treated him. We already know that. 🙂

  63. George says:

£150 pw , a £30m+ bid for a proven Star Striker wouold be a good start. Then we could change the squad from top to bottom. One thing though the magic “£” has to come from Cowboy Stan, and that wont happen.

Why would say Falcao come to us to race into a box only to find Sagna’s cross hasnt beaten the 1st defender, again!

  64. tsgh says:

All Arsenal had to do was keep VP for one season and forfeit the dirty bucks from Rednose last summer. But I recall most Arsenal fans rejoicing because we had sold a one season wonder for £23M…

    Isn’t hindsight a beautiful thing!

Some will ask why we did not go for the Swansea striker at £2M? There is no guarantee Michu would be playing with the same freedom and confidence he does at Swansea with all the negativity, pressure and sighing that goes on at the Erms…

Spending 30M plus £150k p/w? Has PHW said Arsenal will not spend £50M on one player. That amounts to £7.2 M over a year. Over a 3 year contract it exceeds the £50M mark…

Its dooms day with these folks in charge of AFC. Its about time some fans realise what the situation is and stop stressing. Life and health is precious…

Is it not a shame when some fans get so depressed and downcast over football and vent their frustration on their kids and wife etc…

  65. Judge me in May says:

Afternoon, I don’t mind wenger playing the reserves tonight. .I don’t think they could do worse than his best 11..it’s a lost cause anyway..
I think wenger had his chances and his failures lately has little to do with the board or money. .
Blind faith destroyed nations and empires. .never mind a football club..
We all used to worship the guy, but it’s time to move on..
Comparing The great Ramsey with Valencia as right backs in completely different circumstances and tactics tells u everything you need about unconditional love. .
Wenger might have given alot to the club. ..but the club has given him more me think..

  66. Rick says:

    Emma re your at 1.39
I agree that there will a turn over during the next transfer window. But I do not think it has been a case of Arsene hiding behined a curtain. There is an aspect of the Premeirship game which allmost everyone has overlooked. Arsene has stated he could write a book about what happened in the transfer window of 2011 and not one single person has come up with a view of what it could include. I will start the ball rolling.
In July 2010 following our shocking performance in the last world cup the Premeiship introduced th 25 man squad. They stated the aim was twofold (1)To reduce the number of foreign players playing in the premeirship (2) To encourage clubs to develop more young english
    talent.
I can put forward facts that these aims effected Arsene more than any other manager in the premeiship. They put a noose around his neck tied his hands behined his back ,and gave certain players the chance to hold him to ransome.. This summer these players are out of contract and Arsene will be able to do what what he could not do
two years ago thats show the door.
I believe the 25 man rule has done and is still doing Asenal a lot of damage, and for that reason I not only think Arsene should stay he should extend his contract.
To any reading this who thinks I am talking rubbish I am willing to enlarge on what I have written.

  67. George says:

Our set pieces suck. Corners freekicks, we are rubbish at them. Why? Because someone thought it would be a great idea to let Walcott take everything..

If we got the early goal, ie a set piece, but there is a famous saying in Greek, translated= If my Gran had nuts , Id call her grandad”

  68. ozgunner10 says:

Judge – trouble is mate many supporters have spent serious bucks to go support a team in a tie he’s now throwing away effectively – he excuse is also poor, these guys are well rested there is no reason not to go all out. At least he’s created his excuse early i suppose. Maybe he’s hoping BM will not not be fired up and take it easy on him

  69. ozgunner10 says:

George – another classic PR blunder, around the forums they have copped some real backlash in places over Wenger decision. Does stink of laying down, i can see their point i guess

  70. NashuaGunners says:

Kevin KJ Downton say: “I am happy to post my reasons for being positive about the future and why there is light at the end of the tunnel, as you indicate in your post.”

    you didn’t get the joke???

  71. Judge me in May says:

Oz, yes I feel for the away fans in Munchen..hopefully they can compensate on other unfootballing matters. .However I am convinced that our B team would entertain more than the A one…providing flapsky doesn’t play…

  72. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Rick – great post. There is a lot that is misunderstood and there seems a lack of interest in researching the facts. You can explain things until you are blue in the face but if someone does not want to listen, they won’t.

The club should take some of the blame for not explaining things clearly. To those of us who understand the wider picture, we know what a great job Wenger has done despite having everything possible go against him. He has made mistakes but we all so.

  73. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Nashua – No, I didn’t get the joke, sorry it can’t have been very funny, perhaps you could try anothr one. 🙂

  74. allezkev says:

Whilst I don’t like the idea of Fabianski in goal, i’d much prefer Mannone, i’m not too upset at Wenger’s rotation.

Hand on heart people, do any of us truely believe that even a full-strength team is gonna beat Bayern 3-0, or 4-1, or 5-2 etc. Because that’s what we’re going to have to do…
Remember, this is Bayern, not some shit team.

For me, 3 points at Swansea is more important than trying to kid ourselves that we’re gonna beat the Jerries on their own patch…

    With all due respect… 😉

  75. Joywedsjeff says:

Rick… I have been having the same thoughts but can’t just put my finger on anything. Looking forward to a post from you. It will be worth reading.

  76. Kevin KJ Downton says:

tsgh – talksport should be boycott by all Arsenal fans. Some idiot even went on there to complain about Stan Kroenke taking a £25,000 salary. Seriously, 25 grand, about one days work for Theo ‘hold the club to ransom’ Walcott. Unbelievable. It is a show for the poorly educated, intellectually challenged, clueless moron who believes everthing he hears and reads in the media. Adrian Durham should be tortured, before he is finally buried alive.

  77. NashuaGunners says:

    Barc: Andres Iniesta
    Lionel Messi
    Xavier
    Alexis Sanchez

    RM: Karim Benzema
    Mesut Ozil
    C.Ronaldo
    Sami Khedira

    BM: Franck Ribery
    Mario Gomez
    Thomas Muller
    Javi Martinez

How much are we willing to spend for any four from one TEAM??? IF it possible.

  78. allezkev says:

Anyway, what’s more important, is this delicious and very fattening slice of chocolate cake I am demolishing, with this cup of tea…. 😀

    Hi KJ, and Howdy Adam.

  79. Adam says:

Kev. Hello mate. We just had a mini blizzard here. Are you in the West End with your chocolate cake?

  80. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Nashua – Good question and it may be possible we certainly will have the income to buy some. Not enough money on the planet to buy Messi – the greatest player I have ever seen. That first goal last night…!

  81. Rick says:

Thanks Kevin, like you I believe that better times are coming.
I honest believe that the reason they do not whant to listern is they dont know what the regulations are and the effect the are having,
But I will say that Arsene is the only manager who had the courage to speak out against them and more than once he has told those who listern to him just what is going on. But then again if they did listern
they would not sell newspapers would they.

  82. allezkev says:

Adam, I am currantly sitting outside the Tate, on Millbank.
    And it’s sunny…

That cake has cost me about 400 calories, but it wzs heaven… 😛

Adam, I am going to have to get a train out to you, and take you out on the piss. Because I think we could both do with a ‘serious session’…

  83. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Kev – Talking to my dad (77 years old) last night about George Armstrong. He said he was one of the best players he ever watched at highbury, apparantly my late Grandfathers favourite player. Do you remember Peter Marinello, think he was a record signing at the time? Never lived up to his reputation though. Did you see him?

  84. Adam says:

Kev. If only I drank they would be great. If we win and go through tonight I might entertain a ’61 Claret with you though. 🙂
I like the Millbank Tate. The Turner gallery is very nice. I was in the National just a couple weeks ago.

  85. allezkev says:

KJ, yes mate, I saw Marinello…
£100,000 club record signing and a waste of talent.

But Geordie Armstrong was both a great Arsenal player, and a gentleman. A sad loss indeed.

  86. NashuaGunners says:

    Hi Adam.

Since everyone miss my point let me say this, Arsenal will not buy any four such players. As long as Stan is the majority shareholder. I don’t care how much is in the Kitty. Imho.

  87. allezkev says:

Adam, a ’61 claret would be wasted on me mate, although i’m willing to give it a go… 😀

Newcastle Brown Ale…. Now yer talking. 😉

Think i’ve done a wrong ‘un, nothing coming out of the Tate.

  88. SD London says:

Bacelona was a dream yesterday and i remembered not long ago (2008) we use to play like that.

AC Milan just literarily gave up the fight like 60 minutes into the game excpet for the right winger.

And then they had a free kick in the last minute then stupid Robinho (Walcott) decided to take it quickly, stupid stupid stupid .

All i could see is Walcott doing the same at a crucial time and i usually scream no give it to Artheta or Carzola but no Wlacot gets there first.

It is high time the Verminator behaves like a captain and instructs who should take those crucial corners and free kicks.

  89. Adam says:

    Hi Nashua,
As the only thing we really have to go on, apart from half-baked thoeries and gut- feelings, is experience of Wenger’s nonsense and lies for the past few years- plus of course the horrible truth of the points in the last column of the PL table and the disgraceful capitulation in the domestic cups, I would have to concede that you are very likely correct. Sad but the general apathy around our decline these days speaks volumes.

  90. Adam says:

Kev. Keep waiting and a Heathrow wait and return will come out.
You would love a good ’61 Claret Kev, with a packet of crisps it is great.

  91. tsgh says:

Kevin- good point made on talkshite… but I love listening to the undercover Spuddies (host) trying their hardest to justify why being a scum is the trendy thing whilst Arsenal fans need to be sectioned. 😀

  92. tsgh says:

JMIM- I do quite understand your view on the Ramsey and Valencia comparison?

I did not hear a single armchair football manager venting how clueless playing Ramsey at RB almost through out the whole 2nd half during the 1-0 win over Sunderland was !

What Ray Parlour was trying to say (and I agree with him) was that we did not lose against the scums because of one player playing out of position. What about all the fans favourites who did not turn up include TW14 and JW10? SC19 has been shocking since November imo.

Crucifying a young player just because he is no Cesc does the team no good. In fact, the so called fans who do such things may not be able to handle such negative vibes if they were in any of the players shoes…

  93. Lee says:

Finally got to Gatwick, the M23 can be a cruel mistress! I’ve just spoken to my pals in Munich and they’re absorbing what could be our last CL game for a while…..sad but true!

  94. Wavy says:

Peter Marinello arrived under a banner headline of “the scottish version of George Best” – he wasn’t! Lots of mazy, winding pointless runs, sometimes even with the ball! End product, a hazy, smokey puff and he disappeared up his own orafice! Shame really. I remember being really excited when he was signed, but it all fizzled out, he just wasn’t big enough, strong enough or determined enough to be a success.
    Is he still alive?

  95. tsgh says:

As The Mirror headline stated months ago… 90% of fans do not believe in AW”… then the article says 2000 black scarf members were surveyed …

Lets just say every Arsenal fan believed that AW was = to failure and he was rubbish and a fraud and every other adjective that can be mastered… what then happens?

Will that make Stan and the board sack AW? It will be nice to know peoples views…

  96. George says:

    Wavy:

Peter Marinello (born 20 February 1950) is a Scottish former football player.
Marinello started his career at Hibernian, and could play either as a forward or right winger. He was regarded as being talented enough there that he was dubbed “the next George Best” by the British press.[3] In January 1970 he joined Arsenal for £100,000 (a club record fee and the first time Arsenal had paid a six-figure sum for a player) and he scored on his debut, against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 10 January 1970.
However after that his career quickly took a downturn, a combination of homesickness,[4] his celebrity lifestyle and heavy drinking[5] and a knee injury[5] led to a dip in form which meant he was left out of Arsenal’s first team; he did not take part in Arsenal’s Inter-Cities Fairs Cup triumph of 1970 and only played three matches in their 1970-71 Double-winning campaign.[4] Unable to break into the first team consistently in his Arsenal career, he only played eight league matches in 1971-72 and thirteen in 1972-73; he eventually left Arsenal in July 1973 for Portsmouth after failing to agree a new contract.[5] In total he played 51 matches for Arsenal, scoring five goals.
He later played for Motherwell, Fulham, Phoenix Inferno, Heart of Midlothian and Partick Thistle. Though he retired a wealthy man,[4] a failed business venture left him bankrupt in 1994,[5] and he suffered a nervous breakdown.[4] He now lives in Bournemouth, Dorset.[5]

  97. Wavy says:

George, thanks for that. Iremembered thhe drinking bit! And the glam rock hair and clothes! Shame about his demise. He could have been so good.

  98. DutchGooner10 says:

Many Arsenal fans are furious with Wenger’s decision after they had already paid for the trip to Munich and tickets to the game.

One disrgruntled Gunner, Ken Barkway, tweeted: ‘Its a disgrace really. It is the final proof that the club is little more than a cash cow. Glory clearly no place in the agenda.’

Media personality and outspoken Arsenal fan Piers Morgan tweeted: ‘If this is true, it’s an absolute disgrace, and an insult to our travelling fans.’

Wenger’s reply: ‘Mind the gap, I’ve been coaching for 30years, how many clubs did you manage in the meantime?’

  99. stevepalmer1 says:

Sorry Kevin, had to go out, we all have our own views mate, and all entitled to say what we think. Yours is no less important as anyone else’s. 🙂 bet iv’e missed you now.

  100. Adam says:

Lee. Bon voyage to you and Mrs Lee. Have a great and relaxing time. See you when you get back.
Hi Wath. Is Rico still without power?

  101. potter says:

tsgh :- will anything make Stan sack Wenger and if he did , What difference would it make ? Any appointee would have similar constraints financially but hopefully would be a little more accommodating to tactical changes.

  102. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Wavy – Thanks for that regarding Peter Marinello, interesting.

SteveP – Cheers Steve. Opinions make the world go round. Just a shame our club is attracting so much criticism at the moment from all sides.

  103. potter says:

I don’t care if we have 11 dustbins out there tonight. If they are in the red and White of Arsenal I want them to win.
Tomorrow we can chew the fat over whatever happens , but for tonight it’s “”up the Gunners””.

  104. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Potter – Absolutely, come on boys go and play with some freedom and who knows what can happen. I am down the pub cheering them on.

    Going to be tough though.

  105. W.A.T.H says:

Evening Adam, how you mate…? How’s that 61 Lafite..? share it around mate don’t be why…!

    Evening Rico, hows those thermals..?

  106. DutchGooner10 says:

Rico I made the entire quote up. Just tired of the redundant patronizing.

Many on HH here served the Arsenal longer then Arsene been at the helm. Yet he bluntly states their opinion holds no value cuz they’ve chosen different occupations.

  107. rico says:

Well worn Wath, well worn 😉

In that case Dg, well said. He treats us like we are idiots sometimes doesn’t he. Tiring, boring and like you, I’m fed up with his pointless, empty words……

  108. stevepalmer1 says:

Well said Rico, you don’t know how true that statement is. But seeing how we don’t splash the cash, i suppose it looks ominous

  109. George says:

I put £2 on us tonight..

    £1@ us to win 3-0 100/1
    £1@us to win 4-1 140/1

Its only £2 …My Quarterpounder at Mcds will cost more..

    Skybet.

  110. rico says:

Me too Adam, I can feel it in my bones…

Maybe it’s our turn Sp, I thought it was in 2006, but Jens had a mad moment…

  111. emma says:

Ye!!! White smoke emerges. There is a new pope in town. Arsenal smashes the bavarians to bits. COYG’s

  112. stevepalmer1 says:

Jens, how do we attract so much talent. George you could be in the money mate, Id’e have that bet.

  113. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Rico – I nearly ‘pulled the plug’ on this thread. After all, the ‘current’ topic is a little con’fuse’ing. I was ‘shocked’ and ‘hertz’ with some of the ‘negative’ comments but when I tried to ‘switch’ to another subject, ‘alternating’ proved difficult. I did wonder ‘wire’ we bothering but I couldn’t ‘resist’ it? I tried to ‘enlighten’ the other posters but there was no ‘spark there’.

Why can’t people ‘conductor’ sensible debate? 🙂

That’s it for today, I am off ‘Ohm’. 🙂 🙂

    (Cue drum roll………………)

  114. George says:

SP , thought it was worth the £2 I printed it out…If its our last game in CL , I wanted that bet as a memoir

  115. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Adam – I love it when you are so ‘positive’. Who’s to say we can’t do it, it is a funny old game.

  116. W.A.T.H says:

We can open your 45 Haut Brion when we do the double again Adam 😉

Dutch, spot on mate, seems sometimes “he” thinks he the only one who watched football for 40 years…!

  117. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Steve – When my left testicle itches, it normally means my Mrs has got her chin on it again. Wish she wouldnt’ do that when I am trying to watch the footie ………….. its embarassing in front of my mates in the pub.

  118. Adam says:

Wath. I have drunk a ’61 Haut Brion and possibly a ’78. I would have to check. I have the tasting notes somewhere. Full of mineral goodness as I recall (’61).
I was negotiating only yesterday over a few bottles with a Phillistine and general git I know well. Price was the debate as per usual.

  119. Scott from Oz says:

    Mornng all.
Adam, i have written enough on why i think Wenger at least deserves defending…….the unknown factors behind the scenes have me believe the ultimate blame lies elsewhere, imo.
The is no blind faith here.
There is the realisation that the man is no tactical genius.
There is the understanding that he makes plenty of mistakes.
Overriding that, however, is the fact that he must make a profit each season on transfers.
That single comment clarifies, to me at least, the fact that has things stand, we will never attract a manager worth two bob.
We could get has been’s, never were’s and wanna be’s.
Is this good enough for Arsenal, or at least any better than what we have?
I will return serve with a question.
Every manager people have thrown up as “better option” than Wenger is either just plain ridiculous or a massive risk, and nobody has come up with a viable, well credentialled manager that would want to do the job under the present circumstances.
If we few that still defend the guy give up the ghost, then this could easily turn into a Le Grove.
We are delusional, blindly in love, loyal to a fault….take your pick, but we choose to remain positive for our own reasons, and that should be respected.
My brothers wife recently left him and his kids.
I am tired from working 1000 hours a week with little sleep.
My wifes good friends husband has cancer in the liver and pancreas…..35 y.o. and with a 4 month old son.
No sob story, but there is enough serious crap going on in the world for me to see Arsenal and yes, even HH, as an out from reality.
If i started seeing nothing but negative in the club and game and yes, even Wenger, then what the hell…..i would stop watching.
    Each to their own.
Everyone has their own perspective, own opinion and it should be respected.
    COYG’s.
    Off to bloody work.
Hope they give everyone a reason to smile with a decent performance.

  120. stevepalmer1 says:

Got a bottle of my home made red wine just letting it breathe March 2013 a good year (i hope)

  121. W.A.T.H says:

Adam, Had the 61 Haut Brion, Lafite, La Tour and Margeaux.. also 55 Latour…! Magnifique my mate…. best one for me was the Lafite 61….

  122. emma says:

Putting out a strong XI v Bayern. I have the sneeky feeling that Szezesny have being stripped of the No1 spot. Happy TV5 is sitting out as well. COYG’s We Can Do It

  123. W.A.T.H says:

Adam….. Angel wee wee mate that’s all I can say…. Had the 70 and 83 Haut Brion as well both very very nice. Had a chance of a 45 Haut Brion and missed out was rather miffed…!

  124. Judge me in May says:

    TSGH, 4.45
My point was not about rambo, as I said I feel for the lad and AW not doing him a ny favour..he substituted Diaby for rambo ,knowing TR7 would give better input in attack as the game was on the balsnce..then after 10 mins realized that his substation didn’t change anything. .took off jenks who was having a good game for TR07 and put rambo as right back. ..what that about? Why didn’t he just play TR07 in the 1st place…just to prove a point I reckon. .it just worked with Blackburn thanks to santi….didn’t with the spuds..

Red nose play Valencia who is a natural winger and not bad at defending when he tries to double his attacking play..completely different players for different tactics. ..anywho good luck for the boys tonight

  125. rico says:

    Scott.

Highbury House will never ever be like Le Grove, please stop suggesting that will happen. The two sites are miles apart…..

  126. rico says:

You should know by now that that really winds me up Scott. We don’t do comment insults to each other and never will. Just because we may disagree we never stoop so low as to call each other names….

I have great respect for Geoff and Pedro, but the comments section is not for me any more….

Oh and because of all the serious stuff which goes on in life, I know fans come here for a bit of a break, real world and the arsenal world are also gulfs apart, that’s why I seldom compare the two….

  127. Scott from Oz says:

I wasn’t comparing real life and football.
I was suggesting for me at least, football is an outlet and not real life.

  128. emma says:

Where the fuck is this referee from. He doesn’t give us fouls when our players are fouled. He gives them foul against us which are not

  129. stevepalmer1 says:

Theo Walcott is the biggest waste of space i have ever seen 45 minutes without one tackle one challenge his work rate is the worst on the field and he backs nobody up. watch him in the second half he will not make a challenge. On a day that we need teamwork and we have him. Jenkinson has done more in 45 than walcott will do in ninety.

  130. Gunnerdna says:

Sp none of our wingers can tackle, AW need to pull rosicky or ramsey off, move SC19 to AM and let gerv play left side, we can score more.

  131. Scott from Oz says:

I am getting info from two camps
    Ramsey is on fire.
    Ramsey needs to be replaced.
Arteta was our best in the first half.
    Arteta is useless.
Theo is getting towards world class.
Theo is a waste of space.
Rosicky is cutting them to shreds.
    Get Rosicky off.
Just saying how interesting it is, nothing more 🙂

  132. Gunnerdna says:

rico arsh is out of sort, i dont even know why AW include him in the team. It was best to bring one of the youngsters.

  133. Adam says:

You see Rico. All that positive thinking from you and I has worked so far. 🙂
I actually do not see the fact that I would like Wenger to leave as being negative. It is merely an opinion and I do wish people would stop suggesting that it is, by it’s very nature, a negative stance where Arsenal are concerned. It really isn’t.

  134. rico says:

Not seen much of Arteta to be honest Scott, either that or I am half asleep 😉

Fabianski is doing ok though, I do know that…

  135. tsgh says:

SP 😀 Rico won’t be happy with that comment. On a serious not we have 4 players in our team who don’t try but knock the workers who are not favourites.Ramsey and MA08 keeping the 35M DM quiet in midfield…

  136. stevepalmer1 says:

At least Ramsey is trying, Rosiski will have to watch himself he looks like he is struggling but may liven up in the second half . we have to work harder pressurise them they seem a little stiffled if we can get another we can take them but we must keep pressing. A lot depends if our injured can shrug off their knocks Giroud looks to be fucked.

  137. rico says:

But Gdna, he is the kind of player who could change a game. It’s not his fault that our manager has ruined him!

I actually find that funny Adam, and I certainly agree about how having an opinion can be turned in to being negative.

    I always say, it’s not negative, it’s just real…..

  138. Scott from Oz says:

Adam, i know where you are coming from, but you asked for a reason people can defend Wenger and i gave mine, whether it is right or wrong, it is my reason.
If there is someone better, then bring them in, and i have said that for a while now.
As i said mate, different perspectives.
It is difficult for me to understand yours, and anyone who lives in England to be honest, but i am doing my best.
Would we take a 2-0 win guys…..it would be bitter sweet, but a win would be great, i reckon.

  139. Scott from Oz says:

    Hi Ginge.
Our midfield isn’t dominating, but maybe nullifying Bayerns is enough???
    Lets pinch this game!!

  140. Gunnerdna says:

Its pointless people still debating about AW abilities when the team he manages haven’t won a trophy in 8 yrs. Deluded

  141. rico says:

    We do Adam.

    Thanks Gdna.

Subs: Mannone, Vermaelen, Diaby, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Coquelin, Arshavin, Gervinho.

Arshavin, Diaby and Ox for me 😛

  142. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, gotta love his timing hahaha.
    Later guys.
Back to spruik over Aarons second half hat trick!!

  143. rico says:

    Can’t stand him Adam.

    I really quite disappointed.

I am out very early in the morning and no way will I stay up and write a report tonight, otherwise I will never get up in time.

So tomorrow will be a lunchtime post…

  144. DutchGooner10 says:

    Guys and Gals

We flip both sides of the coin on HH. Head or tail, deal with it. It shouldn’t be preached as if we have 2 different religions having prayers in the same church.

Mind you, I’d have said ‘both sides of the medal’ if we won anything recent. 😛

  145. rico says:

I’m off folks. Off up the wooden ones on the final whistle.

    Catch up around lunchtime tomorrow….

    Night all…

  146. tsgh says:

Very good performance.typical Arsenal season.Nearly!then again the team had only 1 week of preseason

  147. Joywedsjeff says:

Rico, tomorrow’s caption should be an apology to Wenger for today’s caption. That’s the honourable thing to do.

  148. DutchGooner10 says:

CL run over. We really bottled the home game. Creditable result and a winner’s fee in tha bag to pay for their return flight.

Wasn’t sure all would make it for Swansea in time, swimming the canal.

  149. HunGooner says:

I wonder how it would have played out if get the decision on the TW offside, just seen replays he was clearly on, then Bayern would have crumbled….Once again too many ifs…. somehow the referee is suspicious to me….3 added minutes that wasn’t right either….

  150. agirlagunner says:

Proud of our boys but the officials did EVERYTHING they could to let Bayern get away with EVERYTHING.

  151. DutchGooner10 says:

Emma that was my thinking as well – re surgery for Giroud, fitting a 3rd leg. 😉

Joywedsjeff go on, graft the post for tomorrow. Rico will appreciate your effort. Not sure about the commentators.

  152. agirlagunner says:

I know, emma!! Offsides, yellow cards galore, free kicks. All sorts of dodgy decisions. Again Gervinho’s finishing failed him (and Us). Sigh.

  153. Judge me in May says:

    Shocking refereeing. ..
Defence was solid for a change..
Midfield was terrible. .how many miss placed passes? ??
    Wallcot was hopless..
Giroud worked hard but no quality. .
MA8 lost it completely at the end ..erratic ..could have been 1999 final all over again. .
Anyway the tie was lost 3 weeks ago.
Good effort but as always not enough..
Well done flapsky..clesn sheet in Munich is good achievement.
That’s said.. Bayern were shocking. .

  154. Adam says:

Hi Agag. The officials were bad again I thought. We were ok tonight and defensively excellent. Credit to the boys.

  155. agirlagunner says:

Boo, Adam! Howdy? The officials were awful. I was appalled at how Bayern were allowed to get away with fouls and time-wasting with such impunity. That ref is card-happy for all the wrong reasons. Oh, and Robben made me remember just what sort of disgraceful player he is. Arteta was just dumb in the final stages. And did Cazorla play??

  156. DutchGooner10 says:

Evening Adam. Mac purring like a sleepy cat no more I hope!?

Fecking officials, hey. To the lion’s arena with them, I say. (Like the proper celestial Christian I’m.)

  157. HunGooner says:

Ohh forget to mention credit to all Arsenal away supporters they were brilliant! Another replay AFCON’s best was so close to a legendary goal, could have done miracles to his confidence but it wasn’t to be 🙁

  158. DutchGooner10 says:

    Boo Agag.

Busy to rule the world on black coffee. Crisis momentum has hit my industry hard. I will retaliate on behalf of my pocket. Hahaha.

Card-happy for all the wrong reasons – indeed my sunshine. Wouldn’t be surprised if match fixing sticks on this lot.

  159. agirlagunner says:

HG, shame about Gervinho. 🙁 🙁

DG, I wouldn’t be surprised either. In football these days, there are far too many dodgy decisions for it to be mere coincidence.

  160. Scott from Oz says:

Well, i can not wait to watch the game tonight!!
My first thoughts are that it actually raises more questions over Wengers and his future than it answers.
He has obviously got the guys fired up today but that effort is needed much more regularly.
We did the same thing v Milan last season……left our run to late.
I am rapt with the result and would have taken a draw prior to kick off, but we have obviously shown we CAN compete with the best, and at their place!
So is it applause for Wenger for having brought in these players who showed today they DO in fact have the quality to compete, or a slap in the face that he can’t get them firing more regularly?
We want answers, and we get questions.
Still, let us all rejoice in a great victory!
    Go you mighty Gunners!!

  161. Scott from Oz says:

I heard the ref has recently been banned for 3 games in his own league for some “questionable” decisions.

  162. DutchGooner10 says:

    Agag

If what Scott says about the ref is true, UEFA can’t mistake patterns for coincidence. Could they?

How you, yourself? All well in the Pacific region?

  163. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Could be interesting on HH tomorrow. Shame I am out but I do hope credit is given where it is due. Arsene played a blinder, great team selection, great tactics and a great win at Bayern with a bunch of so called rubbish players – and a team selection some thought meant throwing in the towel. I just know some will blame it all on Bayern, always looking for a negative. Please don’t do that, that is a cheap shot and you know it. You cant go around saying the manager is rubbish and the players are rubbish and then watch that manager and his players go to Bayern and win, while keeping a clean sheet and restricting the opposition to long shots. Bit hypocritical. Take it on the chin and enjoy what was a very good performance by a bunch of lads under immense pressure. Takes real balls.

Well done Fabianski, brilliant mate you took loads of unfair stick from some Arsenal fans and stuck it to them, so fair play to you. If Sir Red Nose, Miserable Moyes or Arrogant Mourinho had pulled off a win like that, at Bayern, the media would be talking Sainthood. Could be the confidence booster we need for the run in.Okay, we went out on awAy goals but lets hope the positives are taken and this gives us the momentum we badly need at this time of the season.

  164. DutchGooner10 says:

    Evening Scott.

Spoken like a true AKB. Hahaha just pulling your leg. Indeed we wanted answers but tonight’s result payed dividends in questions. Lots of headline grabbers on NN to be expected.

  165. Scott from Oz says:

All is well here Dutch…..hope you are flying high atm mate lol.
Kevin, yes it will be interesting, but i hope people just enjoy the win and not go on about what should be happening.
It has been a tough time, so let us smile for a while lol.

  166. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Hi Agag – ref was poor tonight but they often are in Europe. The Bayern players were dropping like flies and could give Bale a run for his money. Another ten minutes and we would have done it.

  167. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Scott – well said mate. Going to be some unhappy people in the media and on forums like LeGrove. Hope the weather is bad, they can moan about that 🙂

  168. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Adam – .Nicely said. I agree the defence looked well drilled, I have always been a Kos fan. We restricted them to pot shots, that big lump up top didn’t get a kick.

  169. DutchGooner10 says:

    Kevin

I will copy/past your comment on tomorrow’s thread. So you’ve something to read related to you on your return. Happy bunny satisfaction is all us at HH.

  170. Adam says:

Hi DG. The old iMac seems to be purring nicely at the moment but, as I said before, I really only use it to work on doing the whole writing thing. Surfing and that stuff I tend to do on the iPad. Are you based in Amsterdam yourself?

  171. DutchGooner10 says:

Night Scott. Cloud 9 is awesome, changes the view for once. Back on earth tomorrow, promise. LOL.

Night Agag, Adam, Kevin and whomever is reading. Topple some I say.

  172. DutchGooner10 says:

Adam sounds like your old Mac needs extra memory, got a bit of Alzheimer. Wouldn’t invest in hardware older than 4years though. Isn’t worth it to bleed your wallet over. You’re not only looking at memory costs but mechanical service as well.

No not based in Amsterdam atm, living near Nijmegen for the time being. Need info or a parcel of cheese?

  173. Kevin KJ Downton says:

DG – Great to see such positive posts for a change. Amazing how good it makes you feel. Tea and toast then off to bed. Night.

  174. DutchGooner10 says:

    Adam

I recently took temporary residence in Winterswijk close to the German border. Yes, Goonster country and near Arnhem as well. Give me a holla when you’re traveling, we’ll meet up, shake hands and pull the cork of some bottles.

    Off now. Sleep well.

  175. Adam says:

Still here Scott. But nodding off. Lots of writing in the day and hard to turn the brain off too.
    DG. Thanks mate. Will do.

  176. allezkev says:

Didn’t see the game, but heard enough of the commentary on BBC5Live, for me to be suspicious of the referee.

I agree with Dutch & Agag, there are some quite appalling and criminally biased refereeing performances in the Champions League. And these clearly unbalanced perfomances by officials have increased massively since Platini took charge of UEFA, and almost always at the expense of English teams.

Platini’s well-known antipathy to all things Anglais is quite obvious, and shines through in everything he does and says.

He is a true, French wanker…

    Proud of the boys tonight.

Has any English team ever won by two clear goals in Munchen before???

  177. Scott from Oz says:

    Just saw some extended highlights.
A long way to go, but if Fabianski can get some confidence from that performance, we do not need a new keeper in.
The talent is there, as is the technique.
If the confidence arrives, we have a world class keeper, imo.

  178. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Gr8 effort in the true George Graham/Steve Bould style. The flappy Frenchman left little “runs on the board” from the 1st leg for Steve to work with & that eventually cost The Arsenal. But it was fun watching those smart arse Krauts shit themselves 😆

And as for the ref, he was a disgrace.

  179. gnarleygeorge9 says:

How disappointing is Gervinho. He led that merry dance into the box, like he does, but shat himself yet again.

  180. tsgh says:

    Morning,

the first time the bavarians have failed to score at home in over 24 matches…

The last time Bayern lost by more than 2 goals at Allianz was against Bremen in 2010…

It would have been a different story if we had played them first away…

The media do not like to give ‘soft under belly’ Arsenal any credit but this is no fluke win. In fact when we beat BVB 2 consecutive years in the CL, the media said they expected us to win… but when the BVB dismantled the oilers up north last Autumn, talkshite and their cronies suggested its no disgrace losing to BVB… This is not considering we beat Dortmond when they had a much stronger squad with the likes of Kagawa and sahin…

Isn’t life a bitch for us gooners? 😀

  181. Bradster says:

    Hi all,

KJ I’m pretty sure that was the strongest team we could pick bar poor formed TV and Schez. Cazorla and Walcott started, Wilshere, Diaby, Podolski and Sagna we knew were injured and wouldn’t be picked. Fabianski proved me wrong but with so many poor performances previously and just back from injury I’m sure I’m not the only doubting him.
I’m happy how we played yesterday but Cazorla went missing again, didn’t help Gibbs at all against Muller/Robben and Lahm.
Walcott bar the shot that scewed in Giroud’s direction to score ( was not a cross as Walcott didn’t look up to see where Giroud was) was also absent and pulling central too often. Kept looking for the ball inside or to feet. Hence no crosses came into the box as there was no width.

Gervinho did really well yesterday and with the amount of time and space did well with his shot, pity we didn’t have a Ronaldo type on that far post.

Nice to see pressure higher up the pitch from Giroud and Rosicky and Walcott at times. Should always be that way.

  182. Scott from Oz says:

The greatest club the world has EVER seen!!
No Yank owner, French manager nor Alaskan boot cleaner will ruin it for me either 🙂

  183. allezkev says:

Ginge, what TalkRubbish say has absolutely no importance whatsoever.
No Arsenal fan could ever take what they say, to have any relevance or add anything of consequence to any debate concerning Arsenal.
They are a quite appalling organisation.

I wonder if the refereeing performance will be highlighted by any media outlet?
    Probably not….

As for me, I’m enjoying my humble pie regarding Fabianski.
    Hmmm delicious. 😉

  184. allezkev says:

Why was Koscielny cautioned for trying to retrieve the ball after he scored, whilst Neuer, who obstructed him by holding onto the ball, escaped a booking???

    That referee was suspect.

    Morning Gooners

  185. Scott from Oz says:

    I rated Fabianski lads!!
Bradster, i meant add…….it was too close to goal to be a shot lol!!!

  186. George says:

    morning all,

    I thought that too AK@9.30

Regardless of how kak the ref was , over the 2 legs we didn’t do enough, only played well in patches.

Very proud of the effort in Germany, and watching the Germans sweat was very entertaining indeed.

Another 5 minutes and who knows?

  187. gunner10 says:

good result for the lads,. Remove the pressure and they thrive. We saw the same against Milan – loose to the likes of Bradford and Blackburn and deliver a 2 nil win in Germany. Strange game this football

  188. allezkev says:

Morning Brad, yep it goes down nicely with a cuppa. 😀

I watched a bit of Barcelona the other night.
Wonder if they are on some kind of drugs?

Anyway they were pushing and shoving opponents, and diving all over the place.
Not sure how great they are tbh, because they are a team of diving, yelping, cheats?!
And again, the referee was appalling…
UEFA are full of corruptable referee’s in my view…
I have absolutely no confidence in the honesty of that competition…

  189. ozgunner10 says:

Adam – haven’t seen any highlights but he must have done ok – they are listed as having over 20 attempts at goal on the stat sites, although most list around 12 on target

  190. Adam says:

The BM players looked like a load of old tarts to me with their antics. No sign of the master-race to be found last night. Falling down, clutching their faces, leaping to their feet, arms wildly gesticulating, asking the bent ref for fouls that never were. Typified by that disgusting pile of effluent Robben’s who has made a living getting people booked while working the ball onto his left foot for a shot into the stands. Another one for the glue pot. I could see Wenger biting his lip about the ref in his interview afterwards. What a card-happy dickhead he was.

  191. allezkev says:

    Morning George/Scott.

Maybe Fabianski is in for an extended run up to the end of the season?

Tbh he needs another 8 or 9 clean sheets to make up for all the goals he’s chucked in during his time at Arsenal.
But if he proves me wrong, then I shall be delighted…

  192. Adam says:

Oz. last night he did better than ok mate. He was excellent, as was the defence in general. Koscielny looked like a player again and not the hesitant, slow-thinking imposter of late.

  193. Scott from Oz says:

Barca are superb in their own league or at least with refs from the continent.
The brand of football in England is different, and refs officiate accordingly.
Well, some do, for some sides….

  194. Scott from Oz says:

    Hi Kev…Adam….Oz….alllll.
    Agreed Kev.
I always qualify my opinion on Fabianski by saying his problem is a lack of confidence, and if he can sort that out……

  195. allezkev says:

Morning Adam, you know mate, there is something rotten at the heart of UEFA.

Something that stinks, in their referee’s dept/office or whatever.

Certain clubs always, that is always, get the rub of the green.
    That isn’t just luck mate.

It’s favouritism, corruption, call it what you will.

    But UEFA is bent.

And Platini is a ticket tout.

Right there’s a cuppa with my name on it
    Lata Gooners

  196. tsgh says:

:-d Ak, Views of Talkrubbish is a barometer for knowing what the gullible believe… I know I bring them up quite a lot but I think you know I do not share their views at all. I listen to it because I am its easy listen especially when stuck in traffic apart from the Ginger man A. Durham. my namesake lol

Interesting observation on the yellow card btw and the news outlets views on the refs performance. When manure lost last week it was due to hard lack or the ineptness of the ref. Forgetting that Rednose has won several titles with the help of refs issuing unwarranted red cards to opponents.

How come Rio is not facing charges for his blindsided jab at Torres?

Scott Bob wilson always said if Fabianski had Scez’s head he would be the best goalie in Europe…. maybe a late bloomer… perfect for a goalie in my opinion.

I mentioned to Rico a few weeks back that, Flappianski was still in AW’s thought as Martinez and Shea were both dropped at reserve level to allow Flappy to play… he was still flappying when I last sawhim play against the scums at u-21 level but last night with no Poo-lis or Fat Sam on the touch line he looked as assured as Neuer…

  197. Scott from Oz says:

Ginge, Bob Wilson is quoting me lol!!!
    Oz, how goes it mate?
We are having a great run with he weather atm.
28 degrees and not a cloud in the sky but turning soon, me thinks.

  198. Bradster says:

We need to defend better in the first leg, that way we don’t have a huge mountain to climb in the second leg.
Wonder if Sagna, TV and Monreal will play Saturday? Other than that, there’s not much that can be changed.

  199. George says:

what are peoples thoughts on dropping Walcott for the ox, starting Rosicky instead of Arteta and letting Ramsey to the DMC job? Also thinking we have a position for klingon. 20 min man at the end on the left..

Fabianski is on a par with our other doormen…chez and Vito…£1m Ipswich standard

We need a real man between the sticks. not some prospect…

  200. Adam says:

Kev. I think it’s called money and I believe it will be found in numbered Swiss bank accounts. The Swiss have always had a rather cosy financial relationship with the Germans.

  201. George says:

Bradster,I think only Monreal will play to allow Gibbs a breather.TV5 and Sagna won’t feature i think. Diaby will probably come in for TR07 who was v good last night

  202. Scott from Oz says:

    Gunner10 said it….remove the pressure……
Winning is a habit and a culture.
Am, we do not have it.
It is easy to lose, but not so easy to get back.
Still, today was a great start!
Finally….9pm and the replay is about to start!!

  203. Scott from Oz says:

I am seriously buzzing….kick off is about to take place!!
George, i would suggest we at least give Fabianski his chance now.
That was a pressure game against quality opposition….this is usually when he fails, but he thrived.

  204. Scott from Oz says:

    Mate, Rico is struggling.
She got on the turps after the win and is still recovering…..have no fear, i have the con!!!

  205. W.A.T.H says:

    Morning all,

Well all I wanted last night was to see a bit of fight, passion and commitment from our players and I think they did that for the first time in a long time… players throwing themselves in front of shots, making challenges getting stuck in…. Now for them to realise thats all we ask for week in week out…. Jenks cannot be dropped, he is Arsenal through and through and I don’t give a rats arse that he is not as polished as Sagna, he needs to play his enthusiasm helps bind the team. He also gets better and better. It’s a shame Theo strolled about doing sweet FA for most of the game and did no covering what so ever…! If only we had a bit more bite in central midfield. Back four had a great game and for once was visible they were all talking… Fair play to Flappy as well he had a very good game.

Bayern were poor and anyone who says otherwise is blinkered and delusional….! That does not however take away any credit from the way we played or restricted them to pot shots and diving and falling all over the pitch….! Must of been that sniper in the stands… shame he didnt get that horrible little cnut Robben…!

  206. Scott from Oz says:

    Wath, how are ya mate?
I looked after things for you!
I will make a firm comment on Bayern after this replay, but you can only play as well as you are allowed to.
    Here we go..kick off!!

  207. W.A.T.H says:

Scott, Flappy’s day of reckoning is when he can come out of a game where the penalty box is bombarded with long balls and he has to command the box… Then and only then can we say he has come right otherwise he is no different, he’s always been a very good shot stopper it’s the crosses and commanding the box thats been the problem.

  208. Scott from Oz says:

Fuck me……..Robben just fell over when the ref blew time on.
Mueller walked over and told him “that is not the signal, you crazy Dutch bastard”.

  209. George says:

Scott, Im for Fabianski having a go in the premier league, , think Sagna and TV5 need a reality check. Jenks was good, but how good was Gibbs? That block when Bayern looked like levelling the game…

  210. W.A.T.H says:

I’m ok ta Scott, all good your side I hope. I been here mate just observing 😉

Think you’ll find that after watching we did an average job in midfield but could of done better, didn’t put them under enough pressure going forward and didn’t create very much but back five had a great game..! See for yourself.

  211. Adam says:

I liked the way that Jenks handled the post match interview with him and Arteta. When the knob who was asking the questions tried to shift the focus toward the negative he just pulled him on it and spoke very well I thought and said he was proud of the team. I really admired his attitude.

  212. Scott from Oz says:

Adam, Jenks is just brilliant, isn’t he?
He is living the dream, and his dream was not to make loads of cash.

  213. Adam says:

Morning Wath. After all the crap we have had to put up with coming out of Germany since the first game, it was very nice to win and shove a bit back. German arrogance eh? They do make good cars though.

  214. W.A.T.H says:

He’s proper Adam, he has come on leaps and bounds and what he lacks in quality he makes up for with heart and attitude BUT the boy can also play and some overlook that, he should not be dropped at all whether Sagna fit or not… play him til the end of the season, he bleeds red n white like we do and you can’t put a price on that…!.

The full backs being exposed due to lack of cover is a huge problem but then again going 442 would solve that but that’s not going to happen. Maybe play Gibbs in front of Monreal…? As TS says Ramsey wide right at least protects the right fullback but then where do we get width from..? Wrong players for the wrong formation is still a huge issue…!

  215. Adam says:

He is a true Gooner Scott and will get better. I can see that he hurts when we lose. It means something to him. Seems to have a level head on his shoulders too.

  216. W.A.T.H says:

Morning Adam, how’s you mate…? All good I hope….! I thought Gibbs did well as well to be honest, though he was going off on sick leave again after 25mins but he stayed on and put in a good shift… maybe he has gone through a bit of pain or maybe he wasn’t that hurt lets hope it’s nothing that not keeps him out for another 4/5 weeks… we need these players to have a look round at each other and see that getting stuck in makes a huge difference…!

  217. Scott from Oz says:

Agreed with both of you guys on Jenks.
Crikeys we are defending hard, tough, rugged…take your pick.
I can not remember the last time we were this physical in defence all over the park.

  218. W.A.T.H says:

Scott wait til you see some of the challenges we made and won the ball only for the Kraut ref to give Bayern a free kick…!

  219. W.A.T.H says:

Scott, we were sloppy in midfield giving the ball away far to often putting ourselves under pressure but we did in general get behind the ball apart from Theo on his strolls….!

  220. Scott from Oz says:

Theo was thinking he was taking a walk in the park with Rico 🙂 Wath, and they were the first two calls i was talking about….100% WRONG lol.
    Glad you liked it Ginge!!

  221. W.A.T.H says:

As for Mueller, He was squeeling like a stuffed pig the whole game…. non stop whinge whinge whinge….!

  222. Adam says:

I think he was the one who came running out with his arms waving before Clint dispatched him. Pity Robben wasn’t behind him.

  223. W.A.T.H says:

Adam, Robben really is a slimy horrible little weasel…. I detest that piece of shit I really do….!

  224. W.A.T.H says:

Adam the bit at the end where he runs straight into Merts and throws himself Torvill & Dean style onto the grass was pathetic and then that twat books Merts…..

  225. Adam says:

Wath. And as Merts looks at Robben in surprise, the slimy git ignores him, turns and walks away with that “job done” smirk on his disgusting boney face. Glue pot fodder for sure. Straight after Durham I think.

  226. rico says:

    Morning all.

Sorry it’s a bit late, just put a few words together and have now posted …

    New Post up 😛

  227. Scott from Oz says:

Mandzukic just goes down and gets the freekick due to Kozzer kicking him in the face.
It must have been one hell of a kick, because the wind smashed him.
His boot was app. 1 foot away from the grubs head!!

  228. Scott from Oz says:

    Did anyone else notice??
The ref actually kept the yellow card out, and put his whistle away until required!

  229. Scott from Oz says:

Where the hell did Jenks come from when Robben broke through??
Great save from Fabianski, but Jenks pressure was immense.

  230. Scott from Oz says:

On that note, and the fact everyone is gone, i am off.
    Good night all.
I reckon we played bloody well and closed the Stukas down brilliantly well.
We have absolutely no excuse not to get top 4 now, as today showed we are good enough.
    Go you good things.
