Wenger rules out striker signing and business as usual please boys….

So, with all the speculation surrounding the return of Henry to our training camp, Wenger has made it clear that he has no intentions of re-signing him.

Good, forwards, not backwards is where we need to go, excuse the pun! However, if were to come back in some kind of coaching role, then that wouldn’t be so bad would it?

Back to the real business today, the internationals are over for a few weeks and the boys are back in action, travelling northwards and then off to the east to face Norwich City side who sit just two places below us in the league.

Injury news:

Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs have this week joined the long-term injury list, all the rest have returned unscathed from international duty.

Norwich have no new injuries to report following the break.

If our big fella who wears the number 10 shirt scores today, he will become only the fifth player to score 30 goals in a calendar year, one of the other four is Thierry Henry, so it would be lovely for Robin to reach such a milestone and match our old boy. Then he can go on and beat Alan Shearers record!

Today will not be a walk over, far from it and I hope the team know that too, West Brom are the only side to have beaten Norwich at home this season and our away form isn’t spectacular either, well, barring the stunning victory over the Chavs.

The last time we lost to today’s opposition was back in 1992, at Highbury can you believe?

However, we haven’t lost a match at Carrow Road since 26th December 1984 but it’s our first trip there since August 2004 and we won that one 4-1. We have scored thirteen goals in our last three battles with Paul Lamberts men, two 4-1 victories and a 5-1 but I don’t think we will see that kind of score line today, I think it’s going to be tough.

Our defence need to be on their toes, actually, maybe that should say off their toes as Norwich have scored six headed goals this season, the only side to better that right now is Fergies lot.

Things are starting to get better for us though, we have won our last four matches in the Premier League and that’s something we haven’t been able to achieve since Feb/March 2010!!

The downside of facts for today’s match relates to the dick who is the official today, in the last four matches we have played with Phil Dowd in control of the whistle we haven’t managed to win..

Now that is one thing we need to change and I know we all have our own words to describe Dowd, I just hope that another isn’t added to our collection today!

Should we come away victorious today, it will be Arsene Wengers 200th away win notched up in all competitions but maybe more importantly we will have won away again, something we struggle to do these days….

Paul Lambert has said, his side are at home, they are going to play footaball and have a go at us. He also says that regardless of how good other top sides have been, we are up there with them and it’s going to be tough and he believes that after their loss to Aston Villa, the break may have done his side the world of good.

It did for us after a loss, we cannot allow that to happen for them…..

I’ll leave you with a comment from the BBC about Arsenal:

‘Arsenal’s dismal start is disappearing fast in the rear-view mirror’

Let’s make sure Norwich are left even further out of view today…….

    morning
boxing day 1984 was at the match it was freezing. think it was 1-0 carn’t remeber who scored for them. there had been a fire in one of there main stands and it was closed so we ended up in with the norwich fans. lucky for us they were a friendly bunch, on the way home hit some black ice and slid the car into a ditch took about 2 hours to get it out thats why it sticks in the mind. but it only seems like yesterday.

  7. rico says:

If he gets in there in Jan though AK, I think Cahill can talk to clubs then, sort a deal for the summer and bobs your uncle, freebie who will be able to be offered a better wage than if we pay for him 😉

Morning JM, have a lovely walk and look forward to the translation…

City) ?

    Wenger: “I stayed the course”
A 62-year, fifteen at the head of Arsenal, Arsene Wenger has faced criticism. He returned in the Mag, pre-Arsenl Norwich (13.45).
The French manager of Arsenal back on its recent difficulties, and is projected (a little) in the future. (Reuters)
Heckled last year and early in the season for his poor performance, Arsene Wenger is facing criticism in an interview to read L’Equipe Magazine on Saturday. After 15 years at the helm of the club, he acknowledges that he “probably” experienced its worst time in the club last summer and made no secret of going through bad time. “What is hard is the feeling that something is ending.” Will it still at the club next year? “I will point at the end of it. After, I have two years of contract. ”

The French manager expects to have the support of the club-house, as the applause which greeted in the last general meeting attests. “People have realized that I do what I can, that in the storm, I was strong and I stayed the course.” Where will Arsenal at the end of the year after his departure followed disastrous an adjustment (seventh to twelve points behind leaders Man. City)? “People come from afar, though. It was rebuilt in a climate of absolute lack of confidence. It takes time. ”

“What is hard …” Arsene Wenger is on the front page of L’Equipe Magazine on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger rules out any return of Thierry Henry (34) at Arsenal where the former Gunner was trained on Thursday. “I have not thought at all. We have a large staff, with twenty-six players, and in every way, this problem can be addressed before the end of December. “Moreover, the general manager of Arsenal was pleased to see Abou Diaby resume training this week. The international environment was absent since the end of last season and an operation to his right ankle.

  11. K-TR7 says:

Hi AK/rico.Reus looks good so far but i want to see how he does over a prolonged season.i remember when Hoffenhaim were promoted to the Bundesliga they were top of the league till December mainly thanks to goals by Ibisevic.he was the top scorer of Europe by December.unfortunately he got injured ending his season.he has never been the same player again.you never know if its just a purple patch so i’ll be cautious with him.

  12. K-TR7 says:

Rico am hurt you forgot my birthday was on Monday.you were after all the one who pointed it out to me last year that i shared a b/day with verminator…and AK said i was 12…im 13 now 😉

  13. Joaquim Moreira says:

AW is in the cover of today “L’équipe Magazine” with a photo and the title “What’s is hard…”
AW words: “what’s is hard, is the feelling than something is over”. and the question from the magazine: will be AW in Arsenal next year? AW answer: I’ll doing the balance of the end of the season. Then, I have more two years of contract.
“I’ve stayed the course” said AW in the beginning of the interview. They speak also about the poor start of Arsenal this year on the League and about the worst moments of the final of the last season with no trophies again. “People have realized that I do what I can, that in the storm, I was strong and I stayed the course”. At the end, AW his happy with the return of Diaby and Henry will not be in Arsenal squad.

  14. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning all, nice one Rico and thanks for yesterday.

  17. rico says:

Morning Steve, no, thank you and it’s always a pleasure..

Ditto re the changes, i know we have to make a change at right back but if wenger makes too many changes we will lose our balance and could be bitten hard on the butt…

Norwich will be up for this, they will fight and give their all just as B’ham did in the CC…

I hope he is not thinking about Dortmund already…

  18. Micko says:

    Morning all,
I see an open game today, i see goals, i see us winning.
Norwich don’t know how to park the bus.

Wenger denied the link to psg but came across a bit downbeat, the press are quite funny, either he should go as his time is up or they start pressing the panic buttons if they think he might be leaving.

KT, rumours were gathering pace that you had moved on a bosman.

  19. rico says:

Morning Micko, i have a funny feeling about today 🙁

Probably because i just made my bread dough and it has failed to rise 😉

  20. rico says:

    Kos at RB then…..

  23. devilgunner says:

Good afternoon guys and chicks. Seems as if the family is all here except AGAG. What has happened to her???

  24. devilgunner says:

Up till now same old story. We pepper them with shots and attempts and they go up and show us how to score.

  25. EastSidePaul says:

Can someone please explain it to me, because I really don’t understand, how does Arron Ramsey start for Arenal? I really don’t get it, he does nothing for the team and AA sits on the bench while a guy living off his name plays in his position…

  26. stevepalmer1 says:

Santos is the weak link, his pace will cost us, Ramsey has trouble making a normal pass why try back flicks, getting a bit anoyed at them to be honest

  27. Joaquim Moreira says:

Whats a mistake for Mets even was a fault…
Why we change the wingers? why is now Wlacoot play on the left side and Gervinho on the right side It’s an unbalance team because Kos stays in the back (and now try to go forward…) but Santos plays well in front. so he can does quite well the left side and Gervinho can go inside, like we play on the fist 20 minutes…
Ramsey out but arshavin in it’s an unbalance team or he must change a position 😉
AW reads my comment and follow my suggestion 🙂

  28. devilgunner says:

To be fair, although Norwich are level, they are extremely lucky to be so. We should be out of sight already. I predicted 4-0 and even though they scored with their first shot I still stand by my prediction. If we convert the chances then even my 4-0 will look a pauper by comparison. We have had 8 shots on target and 3 off target. Norwich had one on target and one off target.

  29. Joaquim Moreira says:

I count three back saves close the goal line…
I hope we win in the sond half but the team start to be tired…

  30. EastSidePaul says:

Rico, Ramsey always has an off day.
Gervinho and Mert were awful, you really get what you pay for.
Calling us a one man team is a bit harsh, I would say more of a 3 man team.

  31. rico says:

    I am happy DG 🙂

Esp, i didn’t think Arteta was much good either, good game from Theo, shame his shot didn’t creep in….

  32. EastSidePaul says:

Arteta was off alright, but he still put in a better shift than Ramsey, Arshavin must be highly pissed off watch Ramsey play in his position.

We need players in Jan, a lot of players.

  33. devilgunner says:

Unfortunately I am not. Although I like RVP I do not like the fact that goals keep coming in from one man. Ok, I agree that the system is geared for him to score. But we need to have more scorers so that the other teams will find it difficult to mark any one player.

But I have a feeling that soon we will see Arsenal thrashing someone in the Manchester United vs Ipswich proportions.

  34. EastSidePaul says:

Another thing, Holts dive, if that was an arsenal player you would never hear the end of it, unreal double standards.

  35. rico says:

Surely Arshavin has pissed Wenger off, how he didn’t start in a game like today is incredible and why did he not come on when Gervinho went off?

Something is wrong and i think he’s a gonner in Jan….

I am stunned by todays performance…..

By Dowd the Dick i mean 😉

  36. devilgunner says:

Oyyy mates. Games like these will always happen. One day we are praising Merte. Another we criticize him. For heaven’s sake we won albeit not playing at 100%. A sign of a good team no???

  37. rico says:

    TV was my motm…….

What about Kos though, he wasn’t touched and got Bennet (i think it was) a yellow card….

  38. rico says:

DG, thats just it though, when he’s good, he gets praised, when he’s poor he gets a tough time – can’t only be praising him all the time 😉 😉

    Same with all of them…

  39. EastSidePaul says:

It was a great 3 points today, but I’m still worried.

Has Wenger ever made a strategic chance before 60 minutes?

  40. devilgunner says:

I agree Rico, 100%. But I get pissed off when someone does a mistake and people start shouting for that person to be subbed with someone else. He made a mistake. He got criticized. End off. But it does not mean that TV needs another player because Merte made a mistake. He learned from it and we did not concede another.

  41. stevepalmer1 says:

I think you have hit it on the head Rico Arsh is off, he’s been off for a couple of seasons and i think this time he’s really off, A left back and Cahill will do me and arrrrrrr

  42. EastSidePaul says:

I think its poor management allowing Alex Song to wonder around the pitch, the guy is a great DM, and protects the back four very well. But he wonders around and is caught out of position a lot.

  43. stevepalmer1 says:

I think Song plays very laid back, but he seems to have slowed everything he does and gets caught a bit to often

  44. allezkev says:

Two away games on the spin.
    We go a goal down.
And still come back to win.
But you lot are still moaning…. 🙄
Come on you lot of Victor Meldrews, we bloody won!!!
That’s 5 wins on the trot isn’t it???
    Come on, cheer up…. 😆

  45. rico says:

Esp, no is the short answer to that…

DG, We talked about needing another centre half in the week and i stand by that evemn more so after today, we have three quality central defenders, all three had to play today as we have no RB for a few weeks – we only have one LB for 6-7 weeks and he is a liability…

    Smudger agrees with me 😉

  46. devilgunner says:

Tell them AK!!!! I have been trying to do that. And we are sniffing at the scum. albeit with two games in hand for them. That doesnt mean they have won them do they?? If they do not take more than a point then they are very reachable.

  47. allezkev says:

How bad is this you lot of Victors {except Rico} 😉
    3 points in the bag.
And now we can sit back & relax whilst the others stress out.

  48. Micko says:

A bit of a nail biter, shouldn’t have been, should have won that 5-1.

Walcott had a blinder, arteta had a stinker and rvp was his imperious self.
Gerv has to start showing more composure in front of goal and start taking a few more chances, we need some of our other players to start chipping in with goals and taking the pressure off of our goal machine.
I’m gonna sit back and enjoy the rest of the weekend now.

  49. rico says:

AK, I’m thrilled honest, but we can’t just sit back and say all is rosy after conceeding a shocker, and Santos stupidity in the last few minutes could have cost us… That Norwich guy takes a mean free kick and earned his side a draw from that position against B’burn and scored again against Villa, thankfully he was off target today 😉

  50. devilgunner says:

I agree Rico. We need another centrehalf. But not at the expense of dropping Merte. We need to have quality to have more options according to the games. What Merte did was a schoolboy error….he could have hoofed it. But that is not Wengerball. He was simply trying to play the ball out of the defence to start another attack. He failed for one reason…..nobody shouted at him that an opponent was close to him

  51. devilgunner says:

Eat lots of peas Rico!!! Soon they will be sniffing you…..and if you fart they will know.

AK I also remember that not only after an interlull but also after a champions league. Now that Cesc and Na$ have gone….!!!!!!

  52. rico says:

Micko – totally agree re Theo, he gets lambasted so so often, i thought he was outstanding today, he ran into space, made the lb look daft and delivered some quality crosses – maybe he’s finally found his game and was good to see him not be taken off until right at the end……

So often he gets subbed, even when he’s causing problems….

  53. stevepalmer1 says:

I must admit after Merts fu he started to do what he should have done HOOF IT AWAY Wenger might have Mentioned it at ht, but i’m still happy with the 3 pts and i aint sniffing any body

  54. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Hi!
    I’m watching M.City-New
    yes, cebolas!!!!:-)
I’m not agree with mostly of thr comments. Gervinho is a fantastic player. He is always in the game.He has a great dedication to the game. He plays on the right, left and forward. His eyes are to the goal.
Santos is very strong in one to one, in physical contact and has a great safety with the ball at his feet. The problem is if he has a fast opponent ahead. He can never give room grabs.
Mets, failed at goal but was preceded by failure. You must realize that sometimes you can not play nice.
We were superior in all the play time and at all stages of the game. With a little luck, the game was decided in the first 20 minutes. Norwich (who was 9, do not forget …) felt from the beginning and lower with few arguments.
Again, the biggest problem is in midfield. Arteta and Ramsey have to run over two/three players. Rosicky is one of them. Diaby, if he could play 10 to 15 games per season was another. A lack for another one. Fist priority in Janaury.
Same in the attack. Chamack and Park and reale valid options or only in an emergency?

  55. allezkev says:

For all their faults, and even Barca have them,
this team has shown a resilience to come back from a poor start to take 3 points, yet again…
    It’s a nice habit to have…
We can always improve and i’m sure we will.
Of course, i haven’t seen the game, so i suppose that accounts for my view.
The lack of a cutting edge besides RVP, may make these games a little less stressfull.
So while we may criticise certain midfielders and defenders, lets not forget those up front.
Wtf would we do or where would we be without RVP?????

  56. rico says:

And all after Newcastle could have had two JM….

That worries me AK….. Gerv should have put the first away but he fluffed it leaving a tap in for RvP…

Sometimes though when needed, someone steps up because they know thay have too…. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that, and you know what, i wouldn’t be surprised to see Henry signed in Jan to do just that….

  57. Lee says:

Wasn’t that long ago when we were a goal in front you’d feel comfortable, not shitting yourself every time a long ball goals into our box……

  58. rico says:

Hi Lee, didn’t see you sneak in 😉

Aree AK, those days are gone but, i think when Big Sol was with us we could have kept a 1-0….

  59. allezkev says:

Not sure it’s simply down to the back-four Rico…
Vieira, Gilberto, Petit, we still haven’t replaced them…

  60. rico says:

Bolton being in the mire and conceeding so many makes me think two things…

    1) Cahill has made up his mind he is going and his game has declined because he can’t wait to wear a red and white shirt

    2) He isn’t as good as i thought he was

    😉

  61. rico says:

I understand AK but Big Sol would clear anything near him when he was focussed…

But yes, our midfield don’t protect the back four as much as those you name, Arteta and Ramsey just don’t do enough….

Song is good but as Steve said earlier, he gets caught out a bit too much….

Anyone else think we were playing in reserve today and at anytime we could have stepped up?

    3-0 Citeh…

  62. rico says:

AK, RvP’s i/v after the game was class – he said he should have scored more, he missed out on three chances and he needs to go and work on that….

    Class……

  63. rico says:

Me too AK, i still believe he is joining us and will do until he signs elsewhere….

Wenger i/v was also funny, he was asked about the story we talked about earlier – he clarified that by saying that he loves the club and if in May things are not good, he would have to consider doing the best thing for the club he loves so much – he laughed all the way through that question….. And that was asked of him when we were in a pickle…..

  64. rico says:

AK, i bet many wish Reus would sign for us, has to be easier than writing:

He plays for Brosssiaiaiai muchengladbaccchhhhh 😛

  65. allezkev says:

    So you’ll be leaving us at 7pm Rico….. 😉
    Wigan drew 3-3. Blackburn scored 98th min….
Wow Steve Kean must have borrowed Fergie’s watch…

  66. rico says:

To true JM, beat BD and we are group winners 🙂

AK, maybe 7.30 as like to record it and bypass the bits that are boring, and no i don’t mean Brucie ….

  67. Lee says:

He has one of the most recognisable voices in television history but few will recognise his face –  Tim Gudgin the voice of the BBC football results service is to hang up his microphone after more than 60 years.

Best known for his distinctive rising and falling intonation as he delivers the scores to fans around the country, the veteran broadcaster will deliver the football results for the last time on Saturday 19 November during the BBC’s Final Score – a week before his 82nd birthday.

Having started out on British Forces Network Radio in Germany in 1950, Gudgin came to the BBC two years later to take up the job of studio manager for the corporation’s European Service, where he was also a news reader.

In 1976 he joined Grandstand, one of the broadcaster’s longest running sports programmes, where he read out the racing and rugby results in the final score segment of the programme.

Following the death of Len Martin in 1995, Gudgin became only the second person to read out the football results for BBC television on Saturday afternoons.  After Final Score became a separate programme in 2004, he continued in this role.

Speaking of his retirement, Tim told the BBC : “It will be emotional. But as far as I am concerned I will go in and do it and that will be it,”.

“It is a triple reason why I am going, age, distance – I am down on the south coast and the (BBC) team is going to be up in Salford – and my granddaughter’s wedding in Australia which I have to be there for.”

Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker described Gudgin as “one of the most familiar voices in sport” and “a quintessential part of Saturday afternoons in this country”.

Tim will be replaced by Mike West, presenter of sports bulletins on BBC Radio Lancashire.

Video below shows Tim Gudgin making a rare on-screen appearance in Grandstand’s 40th Anniversary programme on Saturday 10 October 1998.

  68. rico says:

    That is incredible, 60 years!

I recall as a kid with my brother and sister guessing the scores because of his ‘rise and fall’ in his voice….

82 years old, bless him, he deserves retirement….

  69. allezkev says:

Did you notice, that the guy replacing Gudgin is from BBC Radio Lancashire……
BBC moving to Salford means it’s gonna be even more full of boring Northerners…. yawnnnnnn.

  72. Joaquim Moreira says:

Good first half. Very balanced. Dortmund is not inferior. Well distributed across the field, with a happy football is creating many difficulties for Bayern.

  73. devilgunner says:

I think that come January AA will leave. However I also think that AW will not buy a winger to replace him. He will push up Santos and buy another defender. Maybe Vertonghen.

And I’m off for the day guys – another great result for us, we don’t need to worry about the others, just us 😉

Nighty night all, have a good evening…..

  78. alan b'stard M P says:

I reckon AW won’t buy in January, due to the team, well RvP anyway, doing well, AW will be cocky and covinve himself he;s safe.

Vertonghen woud be good to help keep RvP, if not an English defender would be good

    I’m dreaming, though
