Wenger really could ruin everything for everyone if he doesn't sign class players this summer….

Morning all,

Szczesny:

You try not to think of the sagas — Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri.

But it’s always in your mind you’ll lose another top player.

This time, everyone is talking about who Arsenal are bringing in. That makes us feel stronger.

The Poland No 1 was dropped for a dip in form last term but will fight for a place even if Arsene Wenger signs a keeper.

He added:

I’d do my very best to compete. I wouldn’t be thinking about going elsewhere.

So players believe new signings are on their way. If they don’t arrive, those same players will be absolutely gutted, just as we all will be. No doubt like us, they have read the newspapers, heard the positive statements from Ivan and Arsene and they believe.

They believe that finally we will have our best transfer window for many a year and we WILL be ready to challenge for the Premier League.

No different from us fans really.

Big statements are all well and good but failing to back them up could be catastrophic, not just because fans will be infuriated, players hope and belief will have been shattered and that won’t win us silverware.

Yesterday we continued our good pre-season work out with a 3-1 victory over Nagoya Grampus. The home side offered more of a threat than the two previous sides but despite them being half way through their season, we were the much better side, especially in the first half.

Regardless, we need a few signings and todays gossip pages are filled with:

Suarez and our  expected £40 million offer.

Bernard and our rumoured £21 million offer which has been accepted and he’s due for a medical on Friday. However, Arsene Wenger strenuously denied such a deal yesterday.

Higuain is off to Napoli so it seems and we are now interested in Benfica’s £30m-rated star Salvio according to the Daily Star.

  1. Ian Hawthorne says:

Wenger WILL ruin it for everone, including the players. We have NO chance of signing Suarez and the only realistic target who actually wants to come (Higuain) will go elsewhere as Wenger is too stubborn to match Napoli’s bid. So hat if it is over the price he wants to pay, we have money to spend and because of that ALL players we try to sign will be over priced. Not only will fans be gutted, so will thevplayers and then we start next season losing all our top players again due to our pathetic and feeble transfer policies

  2. micro says:

He is the manager and whether he signs or not should ruin nothing for anybody. You can still sign big names like Chelsea did with Torres and had to wait years to get anything. I think the biggest problem with people involved in Arsenal is that they dont know their role in the club, as supporters or fans, they think they should have a say on what the manager does. This is not tenable even when you are a player, because management is a total Idea which must be fully conceived and no third party patching up is required. So signing or not, Wenger has come a long way towards stability and he is not likely to loose any valuable player soon and thats good enough.

  3. rico says:

You don’t know that for sure Ih, it’s just your opinion which I understand as history suggests that little will happen.

Never before though have we heard IG come out and say what he has, so hopefully they will back it up with some action

  4. S2S says:

    Rico,

Patience.. This time we’re making Eiffel Tower and it will take some time to build. Just like time England took to win first Ashes in years and after that there have been so many. So, just be little patient.

  5. Rob says:

Certainly getting a bit fcuking tense! What is going on? We’re buying him, then no him, then seemingly losing out to someone else. I do worry even if we have the money are we equipped to spend it and seal the deals??? Totally agree this is not the time to renege on the planned buys – everyone will be disappointed and the number of players…Jack, Arteta, Poldi etc who are expecting something means the team will be as deflated as the fans. Come on Arsene, pay whatever it takes to get these deals done!!!

  6. rico says:

‘So signing or not, Wenger has come a long way towards stability and he is not likely to loose any valuable player soon and thats good enough’.

    No it’s not good enough…..

S2S – I am being patient, have you not been reading my comments over the last few weeks 😉

  7. John Aderotimi Bishopton says:

Let leave Wenger alone he taught he alone understand Arsenal very soon he will be in hurry to sign players who are not worthy to wear Arsenal shirt we in Nigeria have become a laughing talk because of his stubbornness

  8. S2S says:

I can understand if some deals like MF of Everton take time. People say pay him 100K/week, he’s worth it. But what they forget is that is some of the highest amount we’d be paying to a player who is not a world beater and in that case every one else will want pay rise which may range from 10-20K/week/player and that would mean around 240-250K a week rise in wages which amounts to 12M a year and that is effing insane money to spend.

So, I understand all the negotiations.

  9. BigSanty says:

    Morning Rico & all HHer’s…
Sure you are right as Wenger could ruin it all. Players & Fans hope are high now over making a marquee signings which we need & oh God we would not want that hope be tarnished as usual by the club. Already Bennard purported signing has been denied by Wenger, Napoli is on the verge of signing Higuain leaving Rooney (whom definitely is Chelski bound) & Suarez for us to make a statement of intent which we are yet to decide.
Rico like you said, 2nd of Sept is the time for you say anything & am with you on same date.

  10. Adam says:

Morning Rico. I see that Zelalem is giving Wenger excellent reason not to buy. What a bloody joke.
Although I never read a word uttered by Myles Palmer I did find the mails he printed about Arsenal’s board, owner and manager being immoral quite an interesting slant on our ongoing and impending predicament. As the days role by and there is no movement and even more there is no joy to being an Arsenal supporter.

  11. rico says:

Morning Adam, what has been said about Zelalem by AW?

I haven’t read ANR for many months, is that todays post of his?

  12. micro says:

Rico, all of us have hope and it is not in only one direction. Hope that we can get Giroud, Walcott, Podolski etc finally turning up well, getting some one already in the team like Zel stepping up to do a Fab in the team, all the players stepping up their game and commitment to the required level etc. That would be bigger than any signing. Before van Persie stepped up his game, the same fans were crying for a big signing, he became bigger than the signings people were crying for and all was forgotten. I always believe in leaving it open. All these players being shouted about will retire one day, there is some one getting to the lime light tomorrow and all these fans dont know him, coaches have a clue, let them do their job.

  13. Adam says:

Not Wenger Rico, but the way that people are going on about an extraordinary pass by a 16 year old against Japan it does make you wonder what the hell some people are seeing. Yes, he might be a great player in a few years but the PL season starts in a few weeks and we have effectively added nothing to our squad.
The debate was, briefly, that Arsenal charge the highest prices in the World yet they lead the fans on with talk and boasts that the years have shown are hollow. They have no interest in winning anything and are content to plod along, paying Wenger a fortune to continue our mediocrity. The argument being that this stance is deceptive and in fact immoral. I really can see where they are coming from with this.
The problems the club and team are now facing today are the same as they were last season and the season before that. Perhaps they will improve the squad. Who knows? But the scenarios unfolding look iffy to me.

  14. Scott from Oz says:

    Good, negative start lol.
Shit, you’d think the poms lost the cricket by 1000 runs 🙂
Ian, credit where it is due….i am not sure how you find the strength to get out bed each morning lol.
    Morning guys.

  15. S2S says:

    @Micro:

Agree. I just hope people don’t go calling our players not good enough or bunch of nobodies. If somebody ever opens blog I am sure it hurts them.

For me if this year Rosicky stays fit, I am sure he’d make PFA player of the year award and if Rambo gets all the love and support and keeps pulling Zidaneesque stuff then he’d win Young player of the year award.

Btw, does any one think once AW is back from Japan, he’ll have few drinks with his old pal Manuel and convince him to sell us, Edin Dzeko?

  16. rico says:

Sorry micro, that won’t keep me happy, we have needed a strong midfielder for years and yesterday showed again how much we need one now, Arteta is getting older. Zelalem is good, but we should not be looking at him to play 38 games in the PL and other matches. All that will do is burn him out…

And we still need a Gk, striker and defender…

  17. rico says:

Adam, there is a lot more to him than just that pass, honest, he’s good. But, no way should he be ‘relied’ on this coming season, he’s far too young….

I remain hopeful and will do for a while yet 🙂

  18. S2S says:

    Rico,

If we need striker we’ll loan Diouf from Leeds and Jeffers from hmm..Accringotn Stanely is it?

But I think we’d get Dzeko from City for 15M.

  19. potter says:

Problem with Sept 2nd is that’s 2 champions league matches and 2 London derbies inc tottenham already gone. Dip out on those and the players won’t want to join anyway.

  20. Nizam says:

Agree with the headline. He won’t give up his y project y, If the gunners are unable to get going, then he shd be shown the door. The thing is at any major club winning counts and frankly he has been given too much time compared to the likes of other top managers to turn things round.
By the time the board call time on him, Arsenal could be in irreversible decline for at least three to five seasons. We will know for sure how the gunners get going by October. If they fai l to challenge,it will be another season to forget By then the rot would have set in.

  21. S2S says:

    Rico,

You might be mocking me but if you ask me I’d say ‘YES’. Abou for PFA. But I think even AW has given up on him. But if he goes back to France in a year he’d win Player of the year by beating both Cavani and Falco.

  22. Scott from Oz says:

Damn, is the weather that bad in England today?
    Must be pelting down.
    Smile guys…it won’t hurt 🙂

  23. Ifeanyi Urigwe says:

Arsene Wenger is not going to pay anything above €20m just to sign a player. It doesn’t really matter if that player is Luiz Suarez or Wayne Rooney. The man is carefully biding his time, hoping the transfer window would be over soon.

  24. Ian Hawthorne says:

Please not Dzeko. He is simply another squad player. He is not as good as Giroud. I, too think Giroud will come good this year but he needs competition to keep him on his toes. I must admit my comments do come across as negative and more like rants but I have supported this club for 48 years and travel 120 miles by train for every match and this season as supposed to be tha start of something big now the stadium is paid for, but it’s the same old stuff we get every year. Only this season the board and manager are the one’s responsible for raising the expectation levels by practically bragging about us being able to compete with the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. At what? Tiddly winks?

  25. rico says:

If anyone wants to rent a season ticket for the coming season, please let me know.

The seat is in block 93 of the upper tier.

  26. Adam says:

Rico. I agree but we have been down this path a million times before haven’t we. No club had had more “next big things” than we have. When we were winning things we did so because of the quality of our players.
We need 2 new, proper strikers, a class midfielder, a central defender and a winger. We also really need a new owner and if things carry on like this and Wenger takes the piss again then I can see 40,000 crowds this year and a seriously massive failure to renew next year. The whole character of the club will change.
After all the bluster and promises the fans who attend the matches sighed and put their hand in their pockets yet again. This was because they love the club that used to play at Highbury. They did it from their heart. It was their last chance to show they still believed.
The board, Kroenke and Wenger have short memories if they don’t remember how bad things at the Emirates got last season. They ain’t seen nothing yet.

  27. tsgh says:

    Morning all,

I guess its going to be on of those days 😉

Life goes on, football is not life or death.

    Good point micro btw.

The last time I checked a couple of bids and enquiry had been made. It might not be true some will argue but then it could be true. We just do not wash our laundry in public like the new ginger man metamorphosing into the vile Rednose man still pulling the strings at old trafford.

Everyone blames Aw for not concentrating on coaching the team but then say he is not negotiating properly to bring in new superstars… he can’t win can he?

If AW is such a dictator who is going to mess up our beloved club then maybe we are all supporting the wrong club.

As I always say I know nothing about money making but all I do know is that if AW was in anyway stunting or hindering the chances of the board or share owners making more money he won’t be on the blink of being offered a new deal.

  28. rico says:

Ih, you rant on, that’s why we have blogs… 😉

Must admit, if they don’t back up their words then they really are stupid. I still think that for that reason alone, we will sign a few top players….

    Hi Scott..

  29. SD UK says:

    micro! micro! micro!

    Have you been away ?

Leave the coaches a lone to do their job ?

micro! micro! micro! come back to us on earth man.

    Surely we all know and have agreed collectively worldwide – real fans pundits, journalist & bloggers alike;

That coaches cannot be left alone.

  30. potter says:

    Micro are you serious ?
O.K. RVP stepped up and solved one problem for 1 season but the underlying midfield and defensive problems remained then and still do.

  31. rico says:

Adam, there is time, plenty of it….

Things have to happen soon but I strongly suspect we won’t get two strikers.

  32. Ian Hawthorne says:

I’ll rent any season ticket for away matches as it’s impossible to get tickets to away matches as a red member. Anyone who is being serious and doesn’t go to away matches, email me. I AM BEING SERIOUS. would love to be able to get away tickets. My email is iawilha61@live.co.uk. Get in touch. will buy an away tickets in Arsenal end

  33. Adam says:

By the time the transfer window closes we will be well into the season won’t we? When is out CL qualifier?

  34. rcraig911 says:

Sure Rico, I agree the selling clubs have a part to play. However look around at who is securing the players they want and what is happening (or not) with the players we go after. There is a long way to go but if the players we were after go elsewhere and we don’t make the top acquisitions we need then our inability to deliver will be clear.

  35. Adam says:

rcraig911. I agree – we are very far from being proactive aren’t we. The players we are (apparently) after are always going to be too much money. It is the very nature of high-end football transfers.

  36. rcraig911 says:

Just like to add…maybe I am paranoid…but does it feel to anyone else that most ‘big’ managers would like to put one over on Arsene, sell elsewhere, ask more from us, take our players for less etc??

  37. Oscar says:

I feel AW is a sadist, he enjoys watching & hearing arsenal fans all over the world groan & moan from crushed expectations each season. Its very sad being an arsenal fan these days… I’ve always avoided the distasteful feeling of disliking som1… I think I dislike he’s method of doing business.

  38. SD UK says:

Oscar ! I would not go as far as calling Arsene Wenger a sadist

But he does experiment with our emotions and he is getting his desired results of frustrating us

  39. Scott from Oz says:

Oscar, it is only sad being an Arsenal fan for sad people.
    Speak for yourself champ.
My god, i have never read so many whiny comments so early in the piece lol.
    You guys are killing me.
    This is no fun.
    Must slit wrists.
    No, must fight it.
    Must survive.
    Wenger can not win.
    Blah, blah, blah.
    Toughen up you lot 🙂

  40. rockyrocastle07 says:

Micro – Our coaches clearly don’t have a clue. Otherwise the continuous trophy drought would have long finished.

  41. rockyrocastle07 says:

Wow… Just read through some of the comments…. Some seripously deluded people out there!

The comment that has given me most pleasure and cheered me up was the outstanding joke that “Abou could get PFA player of the year””!! What a belter!!

  42. Adam says:

The simple fact is that the club made a lot of promises this time round. The great pot of gold, the fact that we have been through the hard times building for this. Then there was getting the business done early, closely followed by the fact that new managers would need to be in place before the big deals could be finalised. What has come true out of these commitments?

  43. rico says:

Isn’t it just after the season starts?

r911, yes but they are all paying over the odds like Man City have done because money is no object for them…

    Hi potter, Sd and Ts…

  44. Scott from Oz says:

Adam, there is no doubt about it…..Wenger has stuck his neck out this time, and even those of us defending him know full well he has no excuses this time.
Still, early days and they are on tour, so nothing was ever really going to happen am anyway.

  45. rockyrocastle07 says:

good to be back Adam… Will only be a breif spell but I’ll see what I can bring to the party! (not much, most likely….)

  46. Oscar says:

Scott, its nice to see a cheerful arsenal fan, its really nice cos for me arsenal’s fortunes have been very depressing, I think its bcos I kno we could achieve greater things with a slightly different approach, now the thing is the fans keep screaming @ the top of our voices for a change but every transfer window d same thing hapns, @least I thank God its not another “who’s leaving saga story” anyway its just the love of the club that matters in the end

  47. Scott from Oz says:

Oscar, as many here will attest to, i am a simple man.
    I like the simple things.
Arsenal playing and competing is enough for me.
Yes, i would love to see them win trophies, and i do expect this to happen this season or next.
    Wenger n
Has the cash available…..there is no excuses this time.

  48. Adam says:

But Scott. Wenger doesn’t do the transfers so that really isn’t a valid excuse. They said early business followed by the management thing.

  49. Adam says:

Anyway, I am fed up with moaning about it all. They either do it or not. If they do, then great, let’s have a go at the league. If not then that is the end for Wenger and certainly Gazidid I think and time for Usmanov to do his thing and get Kroenke out.

  50. Adam says:

Scott. Believe me. He doesn’t do the transfer work and even if he did he is cocking that up as well.
    Enough said. We will see.

  51. longmanandersen says:

Hi everyone, first time poster, but I’ve been frequenting this site for a while now.

I have too agree with tsgh that the criticism of Arsene lately is unjustified.

Sure I’m as frustrated as the next fan with the lack of signings, but I remain patient as I’m sure negotions are in place behind closed doors. For all we know there may well have been a number of deals already finalised and the clubs just waiting for the right time to announce it. What’s the point in announcing it right now? “Ladies and gentleman, I present to you new Arsenal signing Gonzalo Higuain, who’s going to hang around London for a couple of days waiting for the lads to come back from Japan”.

Anyway my point is, I’m not expecting to see any new signings before Wenger returns, and I will reserve my judgment until at least the end of the transfer window. Hope everyone else can do the same.

  52. rockyrocastle07 says:

I’ve been pretty good thanks Scott. Work keeping me far too busy though! All good over there?

  53. Scott from Oz says:

    Brillant over here, Rocky.
    Life is good mate.
It will be even better on August 10 when we line up with the new boys starring 🙂
    Well, we all hope.

  54. rockyrocastle07 says:

Apparently we have a plaer called “Abou Diaby” or something like that. Apparently he is this world class player who is simply amazing, and worthy of gracing any top club in the world. He must be amazing. Must have been a real coup signing him this transfer window…. Can’t wait to see him play….

  55. rockyrocastle07 says:

Glad we’re buying people of his apparent calibre, rather than wasting money on deadwood players……

  56. SD UK says:

I must say that I wasn’t sure why Wenger would be ready to pay £40 million for Suarez but not ready to pay £30 Million for Higuain.

Then I thought well , Wenger might know best after all because Suarez will hit the ground running ,has experience of the PL (bag loads) but Higuain will need a season to gel and acclimatize to the weather, PL, and the referees 

Also Higuain’ salary is in the excesses of £130000 per week while Suarez might settle for £100000 comfortably.

Therefore Higuain will be more expensive after a while and might and might not fit in but Suarez is ready to go today if we buy him today. I have a feeling that Liverpool will like to sell him

BUT the negative side is that, Wenger will have to work on his attitude on a personal level.

  57. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Rocky – Some of us thought you had dropped of the face of the earth. Welcome back.

    Ginge – I agree with your 11:00 a.m.

    Off to read the comments.

  58. rockyrocastle07 says:

Thanks CG. Felt like that for a while!! Work has basically become my life at the moment. How shit is that?

  59. Wavy says:

Nice one Rico. Am now back from the Emerald Isle, what a place to be, when the sun is out! Magnificent!
I might have been interested in the rented out season ticket but, given its situation in the ground I find can’t make an offer for it as I am not very good at high altitude and the breathing apparatus they offer up there is very cumbersome also I am not very good at wide angled binoculars, I find these add ons tend to distract me from the football. Now if you have anything in the lower tiers then I might be interested.
Despite my absence for the last couple of weeks I notice there have been no changes to the playing staff. Well there’s a surprise.

Finally my take on the Higuain thing is this. Wenger will not buy the player after unreal upped the price. He had a deal in place, or so we are led to believe! I think a similar scenario occurred when he tried to buy Cahill. Coyle/Bolton upped the price that had been agreed, Wenger was not going to bullied into paying more, either then or now. So if the Higuain deal was ever a deal, it certainly ain’t now!

  60. rockyrocastle07 says:

No Breezy…. We make do with “exciting prospets” Joel Campbell and Hugo Agogo or whatever the hell his name is…

  61. ajus tombo says:

Hello, Arsenalites. I absolutely love the feeling every summer and January transfer window. The season invariably opens with a highly charged sense of hope with big names linked, then it slows down smoothly, followed by major complaints and whining in all Arsenal-related blogs and ending with frantic signing of some unknown football quantity on the deadline date, just before midnight. Deja vu all over again. Well, there we are and the script remains unchanged this far. He he heeeeeee!

  62. tsgh says:

    Hi Rocky,

Hi Cg… you must be please about the new Royal baby… Adam has named him already so…

Jeez Rocky, you are turning out to be like your idol Abu Dhabi… one appearance in 3 months if we are lucky… 😛

    Glad you are well…

SD_UK, I won’t pay more than £23M for Hig and that is already £7M over his actual price!

People go by his stats and say he scores one goal in 2 games etc but As I always say Bent has a better goal return but is considered a no-no even though his good goal return was playing for the likes of Charlton and Ipswich…

I watch a bit of Spanish football and he has been considered a 2nd grade striker for some time now especially since he injured his lower back in 2010. I agree AW can improve him but that does not mean we should be forking out ludicrous amount just because that is what they want. The player’s is consider very weak in the head according to those who have worked with him in the past and having the tag of our record signing is not going to make him perform from the go… imho

We may have wanted £30M for TH14 but we got £16M that is life.. you win some you lose some. Was SC19 worth more than £16M? yes he was but the plight of Malaga and AW’s inside knowledge ensured we got a good deal…

    ROCKY WOZ ERE!!!!!!

How are you mate? Log time no see???

Manure lost 2-3. Well dont bother…….it is only a friendly and its only during the EPL season that they will have it rosy.

  66. agirlagunner says:

We live in hope, rico. Surely, a big name signing will come in! 🙂 🙂

And I see Manure has lost in Yokohama. Haha.

  67. SD UK says:

the thing is if Wenger wants Suareze he should snap him up quickly because if Man Utd , Chelsea and Real Madrid should join the hunt, then even if we are ready to pay £40m , he will be out of reach for us.

  68. allezkev says:

    Afternoon Gooners/AKB’s/Doomers/Mick

And talking of rocking, we have our own rocking Rocky back in situ, welcome home buddy.

Hiya Adam, Canuck, Scott (you owe me 5 dollars), Ginge, Potter, and everyone else.

Ok, let me join the moan fest.
We are our own worst enemies for believing all the spin and lies.
The club don’t help, as they could simply deny all the shit.
I don’t believe anything they say, the Press are full of lies ( now there’s a shock), the agents fcuk deals up because of their own personal greed ie backhanders, selling club are a bunch of effin crooks ie Perez/Madrid.

We gotta keep some balance here Gooners.
Remember Diaby is almost fit. 😉
And Zelamen will be world-class in 4 years, just in time for our useless club to sell him….

    Happy Days.

  69. rico says:

I am surprised, given the appalling PR nous at Arsenal, that they haven’t announced it though.
We still have that plonker Bendtner too. Another casualty of our socialist regime.

  76. C Hills says:

Good afternoon all, including those in Canada and Down Under.

I see its much ado about…err, watchamacallit?

  77. Wavy says:

Rico the holiday was grand, largely because the sun shone. Apparently Ireland has not seen above a few consecative days of sun since 1995! Several people said the same thing so I guess it must be true! Horrendous! Did all of the west coast, south to north. Beautiful place but, I wouldn’t want to tour around in the rain. The weather was everything. Better than going to Greece or Turkey! Friendly folk too very easy going and laid back. Just my kind of destination! A bit like Wenger’s approach to the Transfer Window!
However, the more this inactivity goes on the more I become convinced that he is not over concerned with buying any player. I believe he thinks what he has is good enough, from the youngest to the eldest in the squad. If he can’t wrestle Rooney away from manure or hire Higuain from unReal, or even snatch Suarez from the dippers, capture Cesar from twitchy’s lot then he will be untroubled by his inability to attract big names. He will make do with what he has got and be happier for it because he will have a huge pot of gold to count in his counting house along with giant Big and the whole of Gringotts Bank! Not to mention Ivan the Transferable!

  78. allezkev says:

    Bloody cheek Rico… 😉

Adrian Clarke was around the Arsenal reserves/youths around the same time as David Hillier, if my fading memory is correct.
I was tempted to mention Wath as we’re onto ageism again. 😛
But it’s best we leave old grumpy alone in the Hawley Arms. 😀

  79. rockyrocastle07 says:

    Hi again all. Hi agag!

Rico… Poor Gooner D! Making the poor sod wait ages to get his point accross!

  80. rico says:

JM, apparently we are trying to tie up a deal with the new born, but seems his Dad wants him to go to Aston Villa 😉

  81. Paddywhack says:

Never mind AW, my poor old dog had to be put down yesterday (Pele a Staffordshire Bull Terrier at 15 years 3 months). Not a bad innings.

  82. Adam says:

Wavy. You could be right. He could be feeling the same way as he did before an average Man U gave us a fearful 8-2 kicking a couple of years ago. The day we made Ashley Young look world-class.
We should not forget that, up until then, Wenger was going to go with what he had.

  83. rico says:

Wavy, good to hear that re your holiday…

Paddywack, really sorry to hear that, must have been awful for you and your family……

  84. allezkev says:

‘Ere, I just noticed, is that Rico’s woofa you have in your Gravatar Adam…

Blimey, every day is a suprise.

How about Robert Mugabe tomorrow, mate? 😉

  85. allezkev says:

If the latest rumours are to be believed, and that’s a big ask, then it seems that Arsenal have upped their last bid for Suarez, from £35million up to £35million plus another £7milliln with add-ons, making a potential bid of £42million.

It might not still be enough to trigger the clause in Suarez’s contract, but we’ll see.

Rumours that there have been discussions with the agent (parasite) of Suarez, seem to point towards both parties being closd to agreement.

All down to Liverpool now, it seems?!

  86. allezkev says:

    £42m for Suarez, £21m for Bernard, £63m total…

Still not £70m Rico, so that Fiver is still heading my way…

    😛

  87. allezkev says:

Gervinho could be out of the door to Roma by the weekend..,

    Another good piece of business…

Just Chamakh, Bendtner and Park to go…

Been a very good summer window in terms of getting rid of those expensive players with no future at the club…
My only question is, why did it take so long for the club to ship them out…

As for Frimpong, with Coquelin out of the picture, and hoping that he can regain some fitness, then who knows, he might still have a future at Arsenal?

  88. C Hills says:

Hi Kev, £42 million form arsenal? Even if that transfer happens, it’ll take me sometime to wrap my head around.

  89. allezkev says:

Not sure where all these rumours surrounding Santi Cazorla in particular and Monreal came from….
I suspect the dark hand of an agent sniffing around another pay-day for his player, but more importantly for him, a fat pay-day for himself…..

There’s more chance of Canuck wearing spandex, than there is of Cazorla leaving IMHO…
It would be an absolute joke if the club allowed Santi to leave…
    It ain’t gonna happen….

  90. allezkev says:

Ha Scott, you can spend what you like Digger, because if you win your bet, you won’t be collecting from me until May 2014, and you’ll have to travel here to get your Five Dollars…

More chance of the Baggy Greens winning a Test I would have to say… 😛

  91. allezkev says:

CH, I would not be surprised at all, the drop in season ticket sales has put the shits up the club believe me….

  92. allezkev says:

Ginge, there still a long way to go and a lot that our transfer negotiators can fcuk up, but it’s looking positive…

I’m not getting the Champagne out yet though…

My money is on Akpom being our new striking addition come August…. 😉

  93. tsgh says:

The question I keep asking is what is the proof that AFc is going backwards judging from the latest CL financial intake…

    Manchester United’s 2013 earnings were exactly the same as 2012 – 35.5m euros (£30.5m); Arsenal’s were 31.5m euros (£27.1m) compared to 28m euros (£24.1m); Manchester City earned 28.7m euros (£24.7m) compared to 26.5m euros (£22.8m).

Chelsea earned 60m euros (£51.6m) when they won the Champions League in 2012, but their income from the most recent competition was almost exactly half that figure, 30.5m euros (£26.2m).

By contrast, the other major earners in Europe were Real Madrid with 48.4m euros (£41.6m) , Barcelona 45.6m euros (£39.2m) , AC Milan 51.4m euros (£44.2m), and French side PSG 44.6m euros (£38.3m).

    Hi CH, all good bro?

  94. Scott from Oz says:

Hello guys…good to see a few up still.
Kev, the pain from cost of 20 grand to come over will be negated by grabbing that fiver mate 🙂
Wenger stating publicly for the first time that the cash is there, has filled me with confidence that he will spend.
I reckon if he wad signed a few half decent players, it would actually mean we are less likely to buy the top class guys.
4-5 squad players will make a little difference.
Two world class players will make ALL the difference.
Suarez or Rooney and Fabregas……fingers are crossed.

  95. tsgh says:

The dippers view on the purported release clause… ‘Liverpool have always insisted that is not the case with club officials only duty bound to inform the striker of bids exceeding that amount rather than having to actually accept that kind of figure.’

Liverpool echo reckon we bid £40M+£1… very recently

  96. C Hills says:

Keep thinking they’ll sign, Kev. Its not as if the shareholders take a profit and there’s only so much you can pay the board, except they want to move all that money to Cayman Island.

  97. C Hills says:

Keep thinking they’ll sign, Kev. Its not as if the shareholders take a profit and there’s only so much you can pay the board, except they want to move all that money to Cayman Island.

  98. tsgh says:

    Hig and Soldado stats…

    Champions League goals in 2012/13

Higuain: One goal in nine appearances, six starts.

Soldado: Four goals in seven starts.

Hig is another player who goes missing in big games as I said…

  99. C Hills says:

    All good, Ts. U?

Yea, 2 or 3 ‘top top quality’ signings can make all the difference. It was only one for manure this past season.

  100. allezkev says:

Well, Liverpool can say what they like, Arsenal can string this deal out, maybe raise their bid a tad, but £55millilon, ha, they can whistle for that…

Suarez can now ask for a transfer and the Scousers get stuck with an unhappy player.

Remember they lost Michael Owen for nothing, I wonder if they are prepared to take a massive financial hit and risk hanging onto to an unhappy player, who might leave in 12 months time for less than half….

Would the American owners allow such a scenario???

  101. allezkev says:

Ginge, the more I think about it, the more I think that we’ve had a narrow escape missing out on Higuain….

  102. C Hills says:

It would be foolishness on the part of lfc to turn down £30 + million for a player who’d end up being unhappy. Don’t know their thinking though.

  103. tsgh says:

Kev, the yank will not allow that at all.40M will ensure they can buy 1 or 2 other players plus pay for some consultants to think about how to improve that dump called Anfield.lol.
Brendan is saving face and the brave talk will backfire like a 50 year Maurice Minor… lol

  104. allezkev says:

If Real Madrid only value Suarez at £25m, do Liverpool seriously consider losing £15m in transfer funds, to ensure that Suarez moves abroad…

Would the American owners be prepared to lose £15m???

  105. C Hills says:

As has been said before, Higua is similar to OG so, divey bitey Suarez would be the perfect complement.

  106. W.A.T.H says:

Kev, you gotta be chuffed we’ve made such an audacious bid…!
It does show the club have moved out of the dark ages and accept they need to pay proper money to buy quality players.

How you doing old fella..? hows the red spandex’s..?

  107. tsgh says:

I always said I did not rate Hig. Manuel brought him to Unreal but he is not interested in him now. Why?

He had a Denilson like back injury and he has not been the same… The boy can’t ebven dribble.

I know Aw can drive even his staunchest fan crazy but Aw knows what he is doing when it comes to players.. sometimes some buys fail to work out but no one can honestly say AW buys poor players until they have kicked the ball.

Even Santos looks good in Brazil now but the EPL is a different challenge.

Look at Kagawa 18M and he was almost non-existent last season..

  108. allezkev says:

Scott, that’s why LFC and Rodgers are pissed off.

They thought that ‘old tight-arsed Arsenal’ wouldn’t come back with a bid in excess of £40m+…
The ball is firmly in their court.
They can complain as much as they like, but they’ve done it to other clubs enough times when it suits them…

If nothing else, it buggers up their pre-season…

  109. tsgh says:

    allezkev says:
July 23, 2013 at 11:10 pm.. That is the question AW asked himself when the Old Lady of Turin bid 10M for Judas last summer…

    Hi WATH…

  110. tsgh says:

The statement Suarez released a few days back shows he was not expecting a club or a distinguished manager like AW to make a bid for him..

  111. W.A.T.H says:

    Evening Ts,
The question now is how does Suarez react…? Surely he has to put in a transfer request if he really wants a move and 2nd the offer means although LFC don’t have to accept they have to allow Suarez to talk to us…. seems many variations also on what exactly is written into the clause and different perceptions from different parties.
I did say next two weeks from Monday 😉

  112. allezkev says:

Hey Wath, I’ve got it on. It keeps everything in place… 😉

Yeah mate, about time Arsenal played these games.
We’ve been on the receiving end enough times, isn’t it nice to see Gazides doing if to our competitors….

Bale leaving the Spuds as well. Yeah the shit is hitting the fan…
Where is JM, Spuds top four, yeah right?

  113. W.A.T.H says:

    We all in London CH….!

As you say mate about time we hit the big boys head table and rocked the boat with some financial muscle…! As we well know, you cannot keep an unhappy player…! Let the games begin..!

    Ts, you fancy Gustavo..?

  114. tsgh says:

WATH… I fancy him for his experience… I can’t see him and MA08 working together because it will be like a bunch of Snails and tortoises on their way from a veggie buffet.. both too slow. 🙂

But I think him or even Barry will ensure AW can play JW, Ox or Frimps next to the experienced head i.e MA08 or Gustavo.

  115. W.A.T.H says:

Ts, Soldado to LFC and they can cover their arses a little by then selling Suarez under duress and save a little face… Not much mind you lol

  116. allezkev says:

Wath, I still maintain that the drop in interest in season tickets, has had a galvanising effect on the ‘Powers that Be’…..

They needed to be reminded that even loyal fans like they have at Afsenal, will not be mugged off with 2nd rate shit forever…

Saying that, we’ve bought nobody yet….
And if we don’t then things could get rocky this season…

How was the Hawley Arms tonight btw?

  117. W.A.T.H says:

HE slow Ts but so was Gilberto…! Does he read the game well enough or do we try for Alaba or Ginter…?

  118. C Hills says:

Good to hear Ts. Who was playing?

WATH, a transfer request won’t go down well. They reckon they’ve stood by him through his toughest times.

  119. tsgh says:

WATH… I bet you Suarez has told the dippers he wants out… Even Brendan said the player wants to play and deceives to play in the CL….

  120. allezkev says:

    Ginge, Barry as a short-term signing wouldn’t be a disaster…

Not sure about the Brazillian at Bayern. Arsenal still need to keep up their English contingent…

  121. C Hills says:

    London heh, and still awake.

We could rotate MA08 and Gustavo, its just about having quality options.

  122. allezkev says:

Wath, you could be right about everything kicking-off this Monday…

Can’t see anything happening until Wenger is back from the club Tour, so we’re in for another period of speculation and rumour… 🙁

  123. tsgh says:

Ginter will not move this season as he thinks he can make the Krauts squad if he is lucky for the WC… we can’t guarantee him a place.

Alaba is very skillful but the lb spot is his at Munchen so I doubt Mr Pep will sell to us…

Kroos is playing deeper now in pre-season so I think Gustavo knows the score. All I know is AW prefers left footers for the traditional no.6 role i.e deep sitting play maker role.

I play sometimes for a small team called Dulwich Hamlets… I leave about 2 hours from them so I only manage 1’s every 4 weeks or so… I played against a bunch of travellers today and it was quite scary.. 😉

  124. tsgh says:

Gilberto had an engine though… Gustavo is very much like Barry… he hardly goes out of the centre circle.

I am with you… we need an experienced head to rotate with MA08…

Kev, I think Aneke will be given a short as a DM depending on how Frimps looks in 2 weeks time.

I know a lot of fans don’t rate Frimps but even JW10 stated last week that Frimps was the best at youth level and if it was not for the injuries he would be playing in the team ahead of him.

AW trusted Frimps to play DM against Udinese in 2011 in the £25M CL game

  125. tsgh says:

I think AW will try the saints resolve with a bid for Morgan Schendelin. You are right we need to make up the home grown player list for the 25 man squad..

  126. W.A.T.H says:

I sense LFC know full well Suarez wants to leave and all they doing is for PR and trying to save face but like us they know the players wants to go and that bottom line best for all if they sell. We had the same shit.

Kev, think they know long before ST’s were or are an issue that this was the make or break transfer window. Think it’s very obvious we have been pro-active and I would say we are also doing stuff under the radar as well which is normally how we like to do business.

Ginter may move Ts if he is told he’ll plat 25 plus games this year…!?!?

  127. tsgh says:

    W.A.T.H says:
July 23, 2013 at 11:26 pm. Exactly; that is what the yank at the dippers should be doing…

Iaspas is more temperamental than Suarez and he looks very leggy watching in in preseason… Coutinho was their saving grace. Alberto looked good but he looks like going from BArca B to the EPL will be a jump to wide for him so soon.

  128. Adam says:

Kev. Remind me to give you a matching posing pouch when we next meet. It presents a fab profile in Spandex. 🙂
Wath. You and I know it and everyone who goes to the games knows it. I just hope that Wenger, Gazidis and the sceptic really get it-big time. Reading through the websites though I simply cannot believe the amount of twaddle I see about Arsenal at the moment.

  129. tsgh says:

WATH, with Ginter its a difficult one. The boy could be worth £25M after the next WC. But he has only played 35 games or so in his career at the top level. He reads the game better than most youngsters his age but I don’t see him as a starter for us in place of AR16 or MA08.JW needs games too. He is not better than Kos or the BFG nor Sagna if Bacary moves to CB…

The Suarez rumour has not even made it to Sky yet… its too good a news for a club like AFC… I bet they are saying to themselves. 🙂

I will go for Camacho of Malaga… he is like Ramsey with the good engine and not as high profile as the boy who moved to Unreal. He has CL experience too…

  130. allezkev says:

Wath, even tight-arses like our mob, must have realised with so many changes at our rivals, that the fans would never ever forgive them if they fcuked up this summer…

I’m still to be totally convinced, as I’ve seen these idiots bugged if up too many times before, but so far so good….

CH, don’t upset Adam…, he is a dangerous man to upset…
Have you not noticed how I always keep on his good side…
    Be very careful….

  131. tsgh says:

No… Kev. I live in Reigate which is miles away. I only go to that ends to play football… a few times. Do you use that gym?

I am very cautious going to such areas with my previous background and all… the demography if you know what I mean 😉

  132. Adam says:

I have a watchmaker friend who lives in Reigate. It’s a nice part of the world but every time I go there I get caught on the effing M 25.

  133. tsgh says:

kev,A lot of things happen that do not make the news… I heard a former colleague was nearly kidnapped in hyde park last week whilst jogging.. he was lucky a patrol car came by and the guys legged it. But he was chloroformed.

  134. W.A.T.H says:

Kev, hear what your saying mate and on history we can be very skeptical about our transfer dealing. We also cannot guarantee the selling clubs will agree to a deal for our top targets but least we trying which is far more than we have done. Long may it continue and lets hope we manage to brings in a couple of special players.

  135. tsgh says:

    😀 kev…

WAth.. I hear you at 12:01 but a least there appears to be some effort even if it may be superficial 😉

  136. C Hills says:

Oh! Kev, I’m not trying to upset him at all. As a matter of fact, I think he understands the question perfectly well. Its just that I haven’t really gotten a hang of those smileys, sometimes they work, sometimes not. Who would want to upset a wordsmith?

  137. Adam says:

TS. I do believe you know more about me than you have previously let on as that is simply uncanny. 🙂
I will contact Department S in the morning and ask to speak to Jason King.

  138. tsgh says:

Why is Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger so keen to sign Luis Suarez?

Wenger knows he needs more than a striker, which is why he is so keen to revamp his side with Suarez… and CF04 according to the Daily Fail… Rico’s favourite.lol.

As I always say AFC has won nothing not because we are shite but the fact that we have too many big stage bottlers.. Hig would have been the same. Suarez is a magician who can inspire… like Tevez use to do for $hitty.

$hitty can’t win without him with over £500M spent on players and that does not include the £250k p/w salaries.

  139. C Hills says:

Now I understand you, Kev. You guys take it to whole new level.

Adam, hot weather can be a curse when it means to. Not hot at all in southern Nigeria, wouldn’t know about up north though.

  140. Adam says:

Oh well, an unusual but fun late night laugh between us all I think. I am just about to eat a grilled midnight Mackeral which is something I do most nights during the summer. I will therefore bid all you good fellows a good night. Chat on the morrow I hope.

  141. W.A.T.H says:

It was not us Adam… I had a word with Ts, he said “L” down at HQ had spoken to “P” who said it was OTT and that “Y” was busy with Ops in MSHQ so all lines of fire were put on hold Umbrella’s were packed away and “Z” said leave it………….! Job done

  142. W.A.T.H says:

Cheers Adam take it easy mate time 2 switch on the air-con cold GG and off to Uncle… No…….. not man from Uncle..!

  143. tsgh says:

😀 Now that is something to be scared of Adam…
    Night Adam..

I am off too. Same place later on… Stay safe buddies.

  144. tsgh says:

    Morning HHers,

I wake up this morning and turn on ESPN and the first cack I hear is Stewart Robson slating AW again. Then there is the media loving of Mauren-hoe going on about his buys being superb. If I remember rightly Schurle and Ginkel were not Mauren’s buys..bids were made for both last seaon even though Schurle joined this summer.

2 united defeats under Moyes already… hippiee

Navas says he turned us down in 2010. It appears the rumours were true we bid for him but he chose to stay at Seville.

  145. tsgh says:

Interesting comparison of A williams with our CBs.

The conclusion is that Ashley Williams’ all round play and years of playing a similar style of football at Swansea City would see him slot into the Arsenal defence with ease and offer good competition to the current players. However, if Arsene Wenger wants to sign a defender who is an upgrade on what he currently has to work with then Williams might not be the right option to opt for.

    http://www.eplindex.com/epl-news/35763/ashley-williams-suitable-fit-arsenal-1213-stats.html?

  146. frednerk says:

    Morning Rico & All
We now look like a club who want the best,
but can we make it happen,
can we convince the top players.
The old saying…no smoke without fire,
    Mr Henry..looks real.

Ts..stats are stats can’t argue with that,
    but.
If a defender gets caught one on one,
99 out of 100 he will get skinned,
big defenders need a bit of cover.
    Just my opinion.

  147. rico says:

Morning Fred, now it’s up to Suarez I think, he needs to ask for a transfer – if he wants to join us of course, could be he’s waiting for Real to come calling….

Just hope they are really aiming for Bale…

  148. Bradster says:

    Morning all,

I heard Ronaldo’s free kick against Bournmouth broke a kids arm when his father ducked out the way.
Nice, definitely not taking a bullet for his family.
I guess I’d be happy with the signed shirt for a broken arm.

  149. frednerk says:

Thats the thing rico….Suarez’s agent must have said something,
for us to be offering this kind of money.

  150. rico says:

That’s my thought too fred, surely we wouldn’t be wasting time on Suarez had the club not been given a hint that he’s up for a move. One paper suggests we have already agreed personal terms, £150k a week…

Not sure I believe that though….

  151. emma says:

Suarez agent said that clause entitles him to leave the dippers. The dippers said it’s just to inform the player and are not oblige to sell. Lets see how it plays out as he has withdrawn from today’s friendly v Melbourne victory
    Good morning b/w
