Wenger puts ego ahead of Arsenal. Taxi for Bendtner & Could relying on FFP to save us be dangerous…..

Morning all…..

What an idiot Bendtner is and how he’s still on Arsenal’s books, I’ll never know.

Most sensible people, regardless of how much alcohol they have drunk, will usually spend the last pound in their pocket to get a taxi home. Yet over rated, over ego’d and  arrogant twit Nicklas Bendtner obviously earns so much money he doesn’t know what to do with it does he.

If he did, he too would have hired that taxi to take him home, but instead, he chose to drive himself, on the wrong side of the road and all whilst having well over the legal limit  of alcohol in his body!

Unsurprisingly, Juventus want to send him packing and should they succeed, I guess he’ll be heading back to Arsenal. Not that he is eligible to play. I don’t know why we don’t just tear up his contract and kick him out.

Denmark have already banned him from playing for his country for six months!

Something which has taken longer than six months is our decline.

This is from an article in The Independent:

The great eras in football tend not to fall to pieces overnight or end in one great Hollywood finale, instead they disintegrate over months and years until one day no-one can quite recall what it was like when they so impregnable and so certain.

Arsenal will still be in fifth place in the Premier League come tomorrow, only five points off the Champions League places but, as so often is the case these days, they find themselves diminished.

We have disintegrated over the years and what is most concerning is that no-one at the club appears to have seen it happening. Or if they did, they didn’t care enough to try and do something to stop it getting so bad.

Why are those on the board, still on the board? Apart from an odd speech here and there from PHW, what exactly do any of them do, as I sure as heck don’t know.

Why hasn’t Stan ‘I’m here for life’ not bought in his own staff by now, people he trusts and can rely on to do what would be right in order to protect his huge investment?

Wouldn’t you, especially when you are sat a million miles away in a different country?

My own view is that he doesn’t really care what we do on the pitch, just off it and how much money he can make rather than spend, and what Liam Brady has had to say kind of supports that:

I hope that Arsene is given the resources to spend and have a go at putting us back where we were eight years ago.

I think he should be given that chance and, from where I am in the club, I don’t think there’s any pressure on him – I think the board are 100 per cent behind him.

The majority of the fans are behind him, the staff are behind him and I think the board are behind him. So we wait to see what the future brings.

Now that we are in a very strong financial position, I hope the financial fair play thing kicks in. There are a lot of people saying it will never happen. So I think Platini and UEFA are under the spotlight to see what they can do.

If that kicks in and you’re only allowed to spend what you make it’ll put us in an even stronger position.

Missing out on Champions League football will mean missing out on a large amount of money, fans not renewing their season tickets etc, there goes a bit more and let’s not forget how much the club make on a match day from the food/drink stalls.

That will all add up and we won’t be making as much money as we are used too.

Arsene Wenger doesn’t get given much now, it could be less the way things are going!

Finally, there are more stories going around about how Steve Bould has been stopped from doing the defensive training regime he started back in the summer. You know the training, the kind of stuff that saw us have one of the meanest defence earlier this season.

Suggestion is Wenger didn’t like the praise and attention his understudy was getting.

If that is true, then sorry, it’s time for him to be employed by someone else.

Wenger insists he loves the club, behaving like that would suggest he cares no more than Stan, after all, if Stan cared, he’d have known and would have done something about it wouldn’t he!

That’s it for another day….

  1. Bradster says:

    Morning all,

If Wenger stopped the defensive training I doubt it’s due to something that petty. Pretty sure the attack minded coach was not happy with our lack of creativity and toothlessness in attack and decided to focus more on that with our new attacking players as all others were there last season.

  2. herbert chapman 2 says:

Arsene has caused Arsenal to decline the last 5 years. Missing out on the cl could be a game changer. The gunners could be out of the cl reckong for some time. Once you are out,it won’t be easy to get back
Thanks to Wenger’serrors of judgement the gunners are paying the price.

  3. rico says:

I’d like to think there was little truth in the Wenger/Bould spat too, however, having started the season so well with defending, and to what we have been witnessing for the last few months, sadly I think this is more than a bit of naughty gossip.

  4. George says:

NB52 should come back to Arsenal.Put his head down , work hard.Shut his mouth, and behave. Maybe if he is fit enough we can bring him off the bench for 10 /15 mins till he starts doing what he was beginning to show. Then we flog him. steve Bruce might buy him at Hull who will come up. He was with his daughter some time and they always got on.

As for our board…well..The yank will sell and run off richer. Who we get who knows?

As for Bouldy, I doubt he is being stopped from training them , more like the players are letting him and le prof down with silly mistakes.

My real concern is the goalkeeping coach. SInc eBb wilson took a back seat we see chezza trying to dribble outfield and making stupid naive mistakes..

    BTW morning ladies and gents

  5. davi says:

Bradster – I agree with you there, but it is still really disappointing because I thought we looked like a proper team at the start of the year. Really up until the Norwich game, I thought we looked a pretty strong side with a dominant midfield and a defence which seemed comfortable with everything it was being asked to do. The goal Norwich scored to beat us went against everything we had seen before it because no one closed down Tettey’s initial shot. That simply wasn’t happening before that game, EVERYONE was working hard to protect the defence, not least wingers like Gervinho, but since that game we have generally looked fatigued in midfield and far more focussed on pushing up the pitch than ensuring we don’t concede. The annoying thing is, I think we have sacrificed that defensive stability for not much gain going forward. We weren’t too prolific early on because our main attack force was new to the side and the league, and Walcott wasn’t playing much – you’d expect that to natually improve over the season and we looked all set in the WHU game. Very disappointing because it looked like we had the players and playing system to have a decent season but we just threw it all away.
Every top side makes sure that their defence is well protected and when we did that properly, players like Mertesacker, Jenkinson and Vermaelen were able to show their true abilities, but the change in style has piled the pressure onto them and they come out looking like absolute clowns at times. It’s not fair on them IMO. The last time we were truly competetive it was because players like Hleb, Rosicky and Flamini worked hard to give us a defensive balance, and last year Song and Arteta combined really well to do that and get us up the table. We’re so close to having a strong side but we just don’t seem to get it right!

  6. Adam says:

    Morning Rico.
We may never know the full facts of the decline of Arsenal but we know what matters. The failure to replace our best players, shopping in the basement area of the market (I would say bargain basement, but thought again), allowing a manager whose only job is to win matches to become the financial conscience of football. Then there are the annual pack of lies told to the fans regarding transfer intentions ( in itself, unforgivable). On the field we have witnessed the slow but gradual decline of the team who, regardless of personnel, are making the same mistakes week after week with no contemplation of a remedy anywhere on the horizon. The failure of our manager to make the slightest allowance and planning for our opponents and his seeming refusal to make use of the help available. The clearly stated aim that our main objective is a 4th place finish and that our manager considers this success. The fact that we have watched those clubs above us move far away and those below us catch up by not taking the opportunities offered by transfer windows. Our spineless capitulations in the domestic cup competitions. The crass failure of the man who owns the club to utter a word to the loyal supporters other than to proclaim at a board meeting that he didn’t know why he was there. The madness of our wage structure that rewards failure and this extends through the managerial hierarchy too. The alarming drop in match-day attendances.
The list goes on and on. These things we know. The points total and our position in the league are fact, not conjecture. Where, in all of this, is the argument that Kroenke and his crass board and indeed Wenger himself, should be trusted by the fans with the future of this once-great club?
Our club can be great again but every step backwards mean that it is that much further to come back.

  7. davi says:

Maybe Wenger is under pressure to push an attacking Arsenal “brand”??? I can’t imagine it’s anything to do with ego and being afraid of Bould gaining too much influence. If anything I think he’d like that kind of influence as he’s a person who could potentially take over the management position in a few years?

  8. rico says:

Hc, I certainly think missing out on CL football will force things to change….

    Gdna, I think it’s both.

Lack of funding to sign proper players and pay a wage which competes with top PL sides.

And, coaching, or being able to get the best from who we do have and to be fair, most are internationals, the level of their game should be a lot higher, and as a side, we should be far far more organised.

But don’t forget what RvP said……

    It starts at the top…..

  9. Bradster says:

I agree with GDNA, we actually have good players but each doing their own thing. No communication in the team from the front to the back.

  10. Micko says:

    Morning all,
Whoopee, FFP will save us, Gazidas has been saying this for years now, sensible, prudent, financial management, that will make us great again, give that man a payrise, pretty sure that’s how it works at Arsenal.

  11. Scott from Oz says:

I did not think there is another Gooner alive who thinks Stan is doing a good job, but there you have it….we have found one lol.

  12. George says:

Americans and “soccer” don’t work well.

Look at Sunderland , Villa, the merrygoround that happened at Liverpool?

    Look at us.

Exception being United but they are laden with mountains of debt.

FFP wont happen. Vieira, Bergkamp, Lehmann, Overmars and Keown as coaches would make the difference!

  13. rico says:

Wenger should have played Walcott at the beginning of the season, we’d have had more attack to our game and he would have signed his contract earlier.

But no, stubborn Arse..ne decided to punish him.

  14. George says:

Adam you are very right, even our Prfessor is not getting it right. We all know the sub happens at 70 mins, the team which will start, and youth which does well being sold on or loaned out….

    Crass…

  15. George says:

Id drop Walcott and Giroud for the next game -Ponies!

Ok we have a substandard bench but Ox and Poldi might actually out the ball in the net

  16. rico says:

Spot on Adam, morning to you..

Brad, don’t think anyone is denying we have quite a number of really good players who we are not getting the best from. That is down to the manager.

But, what we lack is the 4/5 better than what we have players, and until we get those, and they are managed correctly, things will remain as they are or worse…. imho

  17. rico says:

That’s the easiest way Scott – Hello everyone. I am always worried I have missed someone…

Micko, FFP is a joke isn’t it, they’ll be loop holes, and we’ll be taking a lot less than we were, so a lot less to hand out imho…

  18. Scott from Oz says:

Attack every game…what have we got to lose??
Do not play an attacking style but have a lone man up front…get two up there.
George, i reckon Ox would be worth a shot up front as well.

  19. ozgunner10 says:

and when you have a manager who after years of standing still declares that replacing what he has is very difficult well…. “i don’t make transfers for the sake of it or to please fans” he said – what about being a country mile off being a EPL challenger? Or a challenger for anything come to think of it? Reason enough??

  20. Scott from Oz says:

It is the safe option Rico lol.
FFP comes down to balls…..do they have enough to enforce their own rules?
Probably not, but we can hope.

  21. Scott from Oz says:

You need money to replace what you have Oz.
We all hear it is there.
    Then we hear it isn’t.
    We never hear the truth.

  22. George says:

Hi Rico, Defo have to make an effort against Bayern.

Scott, Why not drop both frenchie and speedy. They could always do a job from the bench.

Also surely Rosicky will get the nod over Welshie for that game?

  23. ozgunner10 says:

financials don’t lie mate and even Wenger has now opened up that there is plenty there. He does try to convince us its only all just arrived but we all know how true that is 🙂

  24. Gunnerdna says:

Blame the majority share holder at the club for having the highest wage bill, the lack of defensive coaching, buying cham, squid, gerv, park and keeping diaby, djour, ramsey, and others, no proper goal keeper for the last 5yrs, top four is a trophy, selling song to give diaby playing time and countless other mistakes. AW lovers needs to take a hiding because all his coaching method is expired. I know AW defenders was going to come out because they have a short memory, how you all feel to known SPURS is the top team in North London.

  25. rico says:

Don’t know how they can Scott, they are still relying on figures presented by clubs. They can easily be massaged …

Oz, the classic line was ‘i was looking hard in january and there was no player who would make us stronger’…

Bradford have a couple of players who would make us stronger 😉

  26. Scott from Oz says:

George, Podolski shold be our first choice up front.
He is our one player who can have one chance and finish it.

  27. Scott from Oz says:

Spurs 4 goals, Arsenal 6 this season.
    Thems the facts DNA.
    Short memory indeed.
Stop telling us what we should bloody think.

  28. SD London says:

Why are we all blaming Stan?
He is a business man and we all know that.

If you want to blame somebody, blame the board members including the ex board members(for example David Dein and Lady Bracewell) they are life long Arsenal fans , most of them inherited their shares and they decided to sell to an American (sorry US folks in here) who we know only has (Soccer) as his third love (sport wise) because he owns an American Football club and a Baseball club as well.

If the board wanted to cash in , they could have sold majority of their shares to fans and sell only 26% to Stan so he doesn’t have veto power over football decisions but he can appoint the board or the CEO if he so wishes.

Just like Bayern Munich did majorly owned by fans (they look like real contenders for the trophy and they just moved to a new stadium and made more money than us last year)

So blame the traitors, so called Arsenal fans that left us at the sake of a man that is known to be silent even when their is fire.

Alisher Usmanov might not be the most highly recommended candidate but at least he clearly has passion for the club (or for the sport ) .

  29. Scott from Oz says:

Oz, mate, you can not possily know that the “available funds” are made available.
They might be there, but it does not mean they are there to use.
Again, they might well be, but who knows?

  30. rico says:

They all play their part though Gdna. Why is Wenger not be questioned over his actions, why has he not been told to change his ways etc etc…

The answer has to be that our major shareholder supports everything he does.

The other not quite so major shareholder wouldn’t stand for it, he would demand change, and no doubt success and if any manager wasn’t do everything in attempt to get that, he’d be out….

Everything is all a bit to laid back, Wenger, the board, the players. They all expect glory to come to them, well they need to wake up and realise that success comes to those who work their butt off!

  31. Gunnerdna says:

In Arsene we rust. Its Arsenal FC not Arsene FC. Any coach who lack ability to coach defense is an ass hole…

  32. Scott from Oz says:

SD, i have always blamed those who opened the door for Stan.
    Bloody politics.
George, Podolski and Ox up front…why the hell not??

  33. Breezy says:

Forgive my ignorance, but how will FFP really help us, given that without selling our best players the clubs actually makes a loss?

  34. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, the first two sentences of your 10.40 echo exactly what i have been saying all along.
If Wenger is the problem, then it is the responsibilty lf those above him to piss him off.
They won’t because they know the truth and what he face in doing his job, imo.

  35. Gunnerdna says:

Question should be directed to AW by IG, not stan. Stan hire them to do a job, why would an American be interested in football when his basketball team is nearly unbeatable in their gym, he trust AW judgement. AW runs AFC not Stan.

  36. ozgunner10 says:

laid back rico – totally spot on. Not one ounce of pressure on anyone, no questions to answer on anything, perfect life really for all of them. They stuff up, Wenger jumps to their defense and tells them they just have to believe how great they all are and when Wengers under fire, out they trot with the “its not his fault” rubbish

  37. rico says:

Matters not Scott, points on the board are all that count at the end of the season. Right now, we haven’t got anywhere as many as we could have had…

  38. Scott from Oz says:

So it should be IG’s job to direct Wenger, yet it is not IG but Wenger who runs the club?
    Okay then…….
If i own a business that is flailing, i will kick arses and attempt to sort the problem out.
I will not sit back and watch from my ranch.

  39. George says:

    Scott its worth a go..

Im fed up seeing Giroud hold his head in his hands and Walcott playing like a div 2 player .

Since TW signed his contract he has become that inconsistent numpty he was beofre his silver streak pre contract wrangles..

Maybe a benching by le prof might anger Theo a bit and he might stop actually shooting at the corner flag. Also , someone stop him taking freekicks and corners please.

  40. ozgunner10 says:

you can’t hide from the fact of all the millions he’s wasted with rubbish Scott in fairness. Look at our summer payroll and the millions of quid that goes to dead wood – he is accountable for every one of them and its a long list

  41. Scott from Oz says:

George, Giroud is going better than most think, imo.
He makes runs quite often that are not rewarded.
He also gets terrile service from out attempted crosses.
Yes, i hate his little petulant antics though.

  42. Scott from Oz says:

It is so easy to say that Oz.
Name me a manager who hasn’t had as many, if not more, costly failures.
The difference is we do not make 4-5 high price signings each season, so when our one big gun fails, 100% of our big guns fail.
When Citeh or Utd get a failure, 20, 25 or 33% of their big signings fail.

  43. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Why is there any discussion about the tenure of Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager. There wouldn’t be at any other club, anywhere. He has to go @ seasons end, with a replacement sought in the mean time. End of!

  44. Wavy says:

    All this confusion.
Stan out, silent Stan -but is he? What goes on behind those Emirate doors, well it’s anybody’s guess.
And there lies the problem. There is no honesty, privately or publicly. No frankness just half truths, half lies, open ended answers to direct questions all of which fudge the truth.
Ornstein’s statements on radio 5 all ring true and yet the players seem to be happy enough with what’s going on. WHY?

There is something wrong in the state of Arsenal. It’s something to do with deceit and lack of candour. Wenger’s “i could write a book about what has gone on this summer (2010)” but you know he never spilled the beans, we were just left to fill in the gaps! A bit, it would seem like his coaching of the defence. Nothing said except maybe “if you keep possession of the ball the opposition cannot score a goal….mmmm!!!!!

I think he needs a slap to remind him that he is still a sentient being and needs to take notice of what the criticisms of his performance are and how he can, sensibly improve his coaching, man management and performance skills.

We should send in Ofsted! That would sort it, a notice of improvement needed at every level or they will be put in Special Measures!

  45. Bradster says:

Am I the only one seeing Ox on a poor run of form? I think he needs some time in the reserves to find some form and relieve the pressure on him.
Pod my be our best finisher but from what I’ve seen his movement and first touch is poor. I doubt he can hold the ball up or be a target man up front alone or header from a cross nor quick enough to run in behind nor skilled enough to create his own space from a magic dribble. So he’ll be a passenger in the team until we find him with a perfect ball.
I reckon drop the no existant holding mid idea, have 2 up front, Pod playing off Giroud and get the midfield to work harder and tackle.

  46. Scott from Oz says:

Gnarley, who will sack him though?
Even if every Gooner alive agreed, the board seem to have a different perspective on the topic.
Wavy, maybe they all forget what the truth is, things are so blurred.

  47. rico says:

    I’m not sure Wavy …

Scott, I know. But, Wenger too has played his part in our demise, a huge part.

He has signed a few shockers.

    He can’t motivate players.

His subs are always at the same time.

    His training is dire

He doesn’t analyse our opponents before we play

    There is more, I’m sure

In fact, what does he do, other than sulk and throw his toys out when it goes wrong….

He is responsible for all things on the pitch, and he’s getting it very very wrong.

  48. Micko says:

Gdna, you mentioned Djourou, a player we loaned to Hannover, a team renound for parking the bus in their league and the first game he starts for them they lose 5-4, you gotta laugh.

  49. George says:

of course we could blame Vic akers, who sits next to him. Weren’t he quite successful with the ladies team?

Liam Brady leaving says something is going on…

  50. SD London says:

    Scott from Oz says:
    March 5, 2013 at 10:47 am

Arsenal is not failing as a business but only failing as a football club so in Stan’s opinion,Wenger is doing a good job.

In this day and age for a football club to make a profit is almost impossible and Arsenal does that after paying everybody’s salary.Trust me Stan is a happy bunny.

He owns one of the biggest ranch in USA so imagine the contrast when he comes here , I dont think the need to buy a top striker or DM will be his top priority.

trust me and check this out :

    http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/12/03/article-2242280-1653D352000005DC-768_634x466.jpg

  51. rico says:

    😆 Micko re JD….

George, he was, very successful with the ladies, must be all down to wearing shorts regardless of how cold it is…

  52. rico says:

Bradster, it’s hard to single out Chamberlain’s poor run of form, we could add Walcott, Podolski, Merts, Vermaelen, Ches, Ramsey and a few more to his name…

  53. George says:

lol Rico Vic Akers Shorts hahahahahaha

PSG, might have their door open but what about uncle Carlo?

    Coming the other way?

We will scrape into 4th thanks to Rafa

  54. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, i have never, ever suggested Wenger has not played his part.
His responsibility should be on field performance, but until the guys upstairs give him cash to spend and make him accountable, it doesn’t matter.

  55. SD London says:

All I am thinking today is seeing Real Madrid smashing Man Utd to peaces. It will give me great joy.

Man Utd willl not allow RM to train on their pitch using excuse of preserving the pitch (clever bastards).

  56. ozgunner10 says:

interesting player purchases in brackets since 2004

    Alex Ferguson IN (19) £159.10m OUT (62) £128.50m
    Rafael Benitez IN (49) £210.50m OUT (80) £125.28m
    Arsene Wenger IN (34) £ 99.25m OUT (62) £108.20m

  57. rico says:

    Good point George…

Scott, I know but how about getting more from who we do have, I moan about Merts and you say tell me I am wrong…

Why, if he’s that good, can’t AW get more from him. Same with Pod, he signed with a great reputation, he’s half that player now….

Things aren’t good on the pitch, and it has to lead back to what goes on in training….

And no matter how hard anyone tries, SK cannot be blamed for that.

  58. Micko says:

Scott, don’t think it’s asking too much giving Wenger a squad that could compete against the likes of Bradford and Blackburn, do you ?
How long more have we gotta put up with this shite.

Anyhows got a plane to catch, laters guys.

  59. rico says:

    Fido needs to be walked…

For those on here who own dogs, be very careful and vigilant, dog thieves are on the prowl and many are getting stolen…. 🙁

  60. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, i do not have the answers, and not do i pretend to.
I do there is a lot more going on than we know about, and that the repairs are not as simple as we think.

  61. ozgunner10 says:

i was just thinking back to pre Emirates days – has Wenger actually ever spent real money in any one season? Henry and the likes often followed on the back of a big sale in this case it was Anelka – bobby and wiltord arrived on the back of the sales of overmars and petit, may i suggest Arsenal is doing nothing different from what he always did? Even the purchases of Reyes and RVP only showed us 10m or so in the red on the season

  62. George says:

@Oz gunner, your right he has always balanced the books. Must say as much as I like the emirates, north bank at Highbury was like a dream. Miss those days.

@Scott from Oz,there are definately behind the scenes off pitch stuff affecting the boys on it.

@Bradster and Rico -As for the Ox, I think he might of been partying a bit and Wenger is punishing him.We all know he likes a boogie with Frimpers & co

  63. Bradster says:

I still don’t see Ox as the solution to our problems and he doesn’t need the pressure either.
Perhaps you’re right there George because that’s quite a sad face I saw on the bench against Bayern.

  64. emma says:

    Goodday gunnersphere,
I don’t believe a word of what Orstein said on 5live last night. This are season professionals who are not pulling their socks together. TV5 and Mert should take responsibility of our failings in the defence. When there is lack of communication amongst the defenders on when to drop deep or push out it becomes a problem. Our keeper is also part of that problem because he is not vocal enough. Mert is a better reader of the game but his failing is his speed. Something has gone wrong with TV5 after coming back from his achilles injury. He has not being himself. I would rather see Sagna become a full time CB and I wouldn’t mind his pairing with Koscielny. TV5 should be converted to a DM in my opinion.

  65. Gunnerdna says:

Sack AW, appoint SB as interim manager for the remaining games. Start looking for a suitable replacement. I’m certain we would win all our remaining games, it might not b free flowing football but we will b in the CL next season. New manager, new ideas, give the new manager 70 to improve the squad, ship the dead wood out. Something fresh is needed. Problem solve, Le grove and HH unite big party at the ems. Happys days. Lol

  66. Gunnerdna says:

Emma u might b right, but when players continually mistakes and the manager pat them on the back how they are going to improve. Mancini call joe hart out after the howler against Sunderland and in the next game he saved a penalty against Chelsea and joe hart is the best keeper in the pl. Manuel Almunia leave his goal and get caught at half line and AW play him as no 1 for years. Players will never improve under AW style management. If SB is allowed to get at them when they fuck we would never b in fifth position. Aw style of management is for the academy, when kids need motivation to get better.

  67. Wavy says:

Benitez will be free in May*!*!*!*

    Who would be Wenger’s successor??????

I’ m blessed if I know or could even pick, given a free choice!

Be careful what you wish for!

  68. rico says:

Oz, I’m pretty sure AW has over the years, earned the club more on player sales than he’s spent…

I suspect he is the only manager to achieve that…

Not much bleedin good to us though eh…..

  69. rico says:

    Hello again….

The Dortmund manage would do me Wavy….

emma – Tv could be missing RvP, maybe his head is elsewhere….

  70. George says:

rico, Leavemyarsealona may have tapped up TV5

To replace Wenger….won’t happen unless he walks…

The outgoing Bayern wouldnt be bad Wavy & Rico.

Or even an untried , God himself=Dennis Bergkamp

  71. emma says:

rico – It could be he is missing RVP but last season’s performance was no different to what we have now. Since he returned from that injury he has gone backward. He is neither good in CB nor better than Santos on the LB position. His positioning in our defence leaves room for questioning. I still think he could do a job as a DM

  72. George says:

Emma, think you are right TV5 is a good passer and can tackle. Perhaps DM would suit him better.

  73. ozgunner10 says:

Emma 12.19pm – are you copying and pasting from the Senderos days? Slow, can’t turn etc etc hahah only kidding

  74. ozgunner10 says:

rico – you can only keep selling assets so long and the cupboard runs bear – once jack is gone god knows where we’ll be. Actually even he has been ordinary lately as well and showing heaps of frustration in his game

  75. ozgunner10 says:

agree 100% on TV Emma, i remember naming him to Scott as one of those over rated players Wenger has put so much faith in

  76. Wavy says:

Is it Klopp at Dortmund? If it is we could all go clippity klopp down the Holloway Road until we reached Hammelin and drowned in the river, or better the Board would follow him!!!

Would he want to move to a club that is not playing CL?

  77. Bradster says:

We’re shite with a holding mid, might as well just go with another striker and try out score other teams

  78. Wavy says:

Bradster, I think thar is Wenger’s philosophy. I. Reckon he read the Matt Busby book of football! That was his only tactic, if you score 5 we’ll score 6! I am sure that’s why Arse cancelled the defensive coaching, he couldn’t se the point!

Rafa getting 4 th thats a trophy isn’t it – get him signed up, he’s obviously better than what we presently got!

    Just kidding.

  79. SD London says:

So we all know that Wenger actually stop Steve Bould’s defensive training sessions.

Wenger can see that the only reason we are loosing is not because we are not scoring (or Gervinho missing empty nets) but because we keep conceding stupid goals.

With this knowledge and Wenger still does not allow Steve Bould to continue the training or take over the training totally, then I am afraid although with a heavy heart , Wenger’s position is no more tenable and should be asked to leave because this only confirms that he has put himself ahead of the club.

He should read the history books many great men fell because of unchecked ego(Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great)

  80. George says:

I once read in Adams biography that GG used to have a rope / String in a straight line for hours with the back 4…so it didnt matter if one or two were slow , they were programmed and had it drummed into them. If you played that legendary back for blindfolded or in the dark there would be dead straight line over and over again. ….

Im sure Bouldy is aware of that. How AW could do with some of that now..

  81. DutchGooner10 says:

One way or another the Emirates must face its Arab Spring.

Wenger is rapidly becoming more King Lear than Robert Mugabe – an increasingly weakened as well as absurd figure, his reputation and power in sharp decline.

  82. DutchGooner10 says:

    Look it’s simples.

Bale is set on 1.5 bln otherwise we’ll suck on bitter Lennon awaiting our trial, while (social) media condemns us to deathrow.

    Afternoon all.

  83. SD London says:

    Hey Picture this:

Wenger in Kroenke’s London courtyard apartment that came with buying Arsenal sipping red wine from the french mountains laughing at jokes about each other and Ivan Gazidis pretending to get the joke and of course Bould wasn’t invited.

And we are here angry and pissed at the state of things in the club.
Trust me guys they are not in the same wave length with us, they just declared profit in six months of operation.

Stay away from games and send panic mode to the board , they will get the message.

  84. DutchGooner10 says:

Candor from an African Gooner…….. made me chuckle.

Watching Arsenal was like witnessing a bunch of Band Aid footballers, organised by Bob Geldof, do well paid volunteer work for Tottenham Hotspurs. It was baleful.

For 30 minutes our do-gooding lads had much of the play whilst they developed the Spuds from sacks of potatoes – as our Highbury man, Karl Marx might have said – into fully flourishing Champions League plants. Much of the Arsenal largesse came in the final third as Olivier Giroud (humming We Are The World passionately but out of tune) flung himself, like temptation, on the thankful, though largely unimpressed Spurs centre backs. (You can get up now, sweetie…)

Giroud had opportunities to be the hero but he preferred to play pantomime dame whose advances, he hammed to referee Mark Clattenburg, should have been rewarded not rebuffed.

  85. potter says:

We have a number of average to good squad players , this is a direct result of the dumning down of the squad. It is time for the powers whoever they might be to bite the bullet and buy back the class they sold. We need performers like Cesc , RVP , Gilberto etc . 3 or 4 of those and we could be back in business and going places again. Sadly the number of “” top, top players”” needed has grown year on year and the cost of buying them will outweigh the money we recieved in the cull in the first place.

  86. rico says:

Totally agree Potter. Add 5 high quality players to who we have and then we’d be challenging the PL….

  87. rico says:

All very quiet here so I’m heading out of the house for the day…

I guess real v Manure is keeping everyone away ;)…

    I’m off to watch too…

    Come on Jose 😉

    Night all……

  88. Lewis says:

What a novelty to see 2 teams well drilled in how to defend and that obviously have a game plan. Utd actually have a plan to deal with Ronaldo and so far it’s worked. Our manager should take notes.

  89. Lee says:

Lewis, on paper that manure is not loads better than us BUT they play & defend as a team plus they have a game plan! As you say take note Arsene,,,,

  90. rico says:

Ha ha ha, hee hee hee…

Funny how these commentators mention bad decisions/sending offs…

Not one mention of RvP against Barca!!

Tough eh Fergie, when you don’t get a referee in YOUR pocket!!

Sorry, only popped back on to say that…

    Night all….

  91. Scott from Oz says:

How is the game going guys?
Rico, i slept like a log, thanks.
I hope Real allow you all a good nights sleep 🙂

  92. Lewis says:

Morning Scott. Utd were winning 1-0 and playing well. Ref sent off nani, (unjustly is putting it mild) Madrid then scored 2. Game over. Couldn’t happen to a nicer team.

  93. Scott from Oz says:

    Thanks Lewis.
I just said to a rabid mob of Yanited fans that if and on the numerous occasions it has happened to Arsenal, i am told not to make excuses.
    Seems ok for them though.
Best start to a morning i have had for a while lol.

  94. Lee says:

Fergie unhappy with a referee’s decision so he doesn’t speak to the media…..
What about RvP’s sending off at the poo camp? No mention of that last night, eh?

  95. Adam says:

Lee. The saddle-sniffers lost but I enjoyed Roy Keane’s assertion that it was the correct decision.

  96. Scott from Oz says:

Did everyone see the Fergie foot stomp?
What a spoilt brat that prick is.
He never complains when decisions go their way, and it happens often enough.

  97. Adam says:

Morning Scott. What most seem to have forgotten is that, when we were at Highbury, Van Persie got sent off in CL match for exactly the same offence. I cannot remember the exact match but the ball came over his head and he raised his foot high to control it and a defender ran into it. He was sent off. I don’t recall much of an outcry at the time.

  98. Bradster says:

    Morning guys,

Great result to stay up until midnight watching. So glad Man U get a feel of the trash other teams get put through by their ref’s in Fergies pocket.
I must say I’m impressed with Ryan Giggs, still so pacy and skillful at 39.
We really should’ve tried to get Welbeck in the RVP deal, that’s a guy for the future. I would reckon he’s everything we want Theo to be.
So the insterest in Williams and Hummels, is that the sign of another captain to Barca?

  99. Lee says:

Morning Adam, Bradster & Scotty, as I said earlier no mention of the RvP sending off for us v Barca last night! Did you see the ref’s name? Cuneyt Cakir, I bet Fergie thought he was a Cuneyt (spelling) after last night’s decision. 😆

  100. Adam says:

2005-arsenal v FC Thun. RVP sent off on 45th minute for exactly the same offence. We won the game 2-1.
Also, as you say Lee, the sending off for VP against Baraca was a far, far more controversial event that Nani’s last night and as moon-faced Adrian Chiles quoted the rules, I have to agree with Keane, it was dangerous play. According to the rules, the ref was right.
VP ‘s sending-off in Barca was the night I finally realised that the CL is bent anyway. Naive soul that I am. 🙂

  101. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all,
United with the hump. Ha Ha. Was Nani’s foot at chest height did he catch the player and at the end of the challenge did he put in a little kick as well yes he did. United seldom have decisions against them like this but it was still dangerous. Right decision. I am more concerned with Ferdinands goading hand clap in front of the referee at the end of the game, which nobody has spoken about, had a fan thrown a banana at Ferdinand in a goading Manner they would have been banned for life, this act of Ferdinands was a mocking Gesture. Was it because the ref was white. In full view of everybody.

  102. Scott from Oz says:

No red card for mine, but the Utd and have the hide to whinge, and Fergie NOT to speak?
Gee, they are a bunch of spoilt brats.
The poor ref has one chance to see it and make a call, and for once, i went against Fergies mob.

  103. Adam says:

Within the rules of the game though Scott, it was play likely to endanger another player. Keane is right. Intention is not considered to be mitigating. I understand what you mean though but also agree with SP in that once he felt contact Nani added a bit of extra spice to the contact.
    All rather enjoyable nonetheless. 🙂

  104. Scott from Oz says:

    Great post Steve.
Rio should be hauled over the coals for that.
No Utd fans whinging about Raphaels attempted dive either.
This is the reason people hate Utd…well, one of them.
Even Gooners can say “we played like shit”, but any Utd fan will tell you after a loss that they were robbed.
Those raising the RVP send off V Barca….that was the single most ridiculous decision i have ever seen.
To this day, the ref is the only person who thought the guy carried on and shot over petulance.
The crowd was screaming, and you could see it just was not the case.
I killed us, and who knows, if it does not happen, we may well have been CL winners, still had RVP and a few others and be leading the comp.
Yes, that is a stretch, but it is possible that much hinged on one decision.

  105. Scott from Oz says:

Adam, i am talking with the Massive advantage of hindsight and camera angles, admittedly.
I don’t believe there was any intent, but agree with you that to the letter of the law, it was a send off.
It was almost as good as an Arsenal win, and i didn’t even watch it lol.
There is an EPL sledging group on FB i frequent.
98% of the time, it really is all in good fun.
Today though, Utd fans are blowing up big time, and everyone else just keeps twisting the knife.

  106. Scott from Oz says:

Steve, i have thought that of Jose for quite a while now.
Fergie won’t last forever, and Jose loves the big stage.

  107. Adam says:

    Agreed Scott.
If he had lost I doubt if Mourinho would have made that comment. Methinks he is trying to change people’s perceptions of him. And trying to appear magnanimous in victory. It doesn’t really suit him though.
The papers over here are busy taking Fergie’s trousers down and kneeling before him in the their massive admiration. They have prosecuted, tried and convicted the ref while Man Utd fans are turning against Keane.
It is all rather hilarious and brings a touch of much-needed levity to a depressing time for Gooners.

  108. stevepalmer1 says:

Sorry Lee i missed you out mate. I laughed when Fergi came running out he certainly through his toys out the pram. Loved it 🙂

  109. Scott from Oz says:

Fergie is god, or so it would seem.
If he were English, i may understand it, but as French is foreign, so is Scottish..
If Wenger did the little foot stomp and pc ban, would he be copping it?

  110. Adam says:

Scott. Wenger got sent to the stands for the heinous act of kicking a water bottle at Old Toilet. 🙂

  111. Scott from Oz says:

I just read Ryo is back fully fit and ready to play again.
Sorry to interrupt the Fergie bash, which is bloody enjoyable, i might add.

  112. stevepalmer1 says:

£35 mill don’t make me laugh. I think a lot of hardships are coming our way before we can even think of the next transfer window.

  113. stevepalmer1 says:

Never seen so many footballs come on the pitch when the ball went out of play, not so many down the lane was there. can we learn something from that.

  114. Lee says:

You’ll have NB52 pissed going the wrong way and the Klingon running up blind alleys….what joy, worth every entry fee!

  115. rico says:

    Good Morning all.

Missing Person Report in the papers this morning.

Male described to be of reddish facial complexion, glasses and often seen to be chewing gum and waving his arms around.

If spotted and you speak to him, not he’s not ill, that’s his normal voice….

Last seen at some old toilet in Manchester….

    😛

  116. Adam says:

Morning Rico. Was this man’s nose bulging with burst blood vessels and was he wearing the cloak of entitlement?
If so, then I believe I saw him last night.

  117. Lee says:

Was he swigging a cocktail of methylated spirits & irn bru?? Whilst munching on a deep fried mars bar?

  118. stevepalmer1 says:

Fergi spent the night with Ronkeys Grandmother friend, he said just keep whipping me till i stop swareing.

  119. Scott from Oz says:

Plenty are questioning Van Persies performances in both legs.
Just raising a question here……..is he part of the reason we have won nothing over the last few years?
    Does he struggle under pressure?
Is he part of a number of past players that suffer this ailment ahen the heat is on?
Nasri, as good as he was for three months, when we needed him to show his true class, after Xmas, he fell in a heap and disappeared?
Recently, somebody me tioned the lack of winners we have.
Well, plenty the players we have let go helped us win nothing, so are the part of the reason?
We have had our chances over the years.

  120. Adam says:

Martin Lipton’s report on last night’s match in The Mirror is, in my opinion, one of the worst written pieces of Sports Journalism I have ever read. The grammar, punctuation and formatting make the BR look like Anthony Burgess. Fergie must have been hurrying him up I suppose and they by-passed the editing process completely.
Just thought I’d let you know. 🙂

  121. rico says:

I think he’s still in the changing rooms Sp….

Wonder what was deeper red in colour, the glass of wine shared with Jose, or Fergies snozzer…..

  122. Adam says:

It looked to me as Van Persie had been eating rather too many of those delicious horse-meat pies that the Northerners love so much. Perhaps he goes out for dinner with the chubby little Brazilian left-back. You know, the one who handballed the ball on the line and didn’t concede a penalty or get sent off.

  123. Scott from Oz says:

I just was chastised elsewhere for calling the cretin Fergie.
Apparently he is to be known as Freddo, as the real Fergie is in the Black Eyed Peas 🙂

  124. rico says:

I won’t bother reading then Adam, in fact I will go and spell/grammar check today’s post, again …

  125. Scott from Oz says:

Adam, maybe that is why Andre swapped shirts with him…..Van Persie looked as though he needed a bigger size!!

  126. rico says:

I watched most of it Scott, I loved it when the ref branded a red card for Nani. Deserved in my opinion.

What followed was something quite amusing and I so hope Fergie and a few of his players get hit with lengthy bans which cost dear in next years tournament….

  127. Adam says:

    Rico. The voice of reason.
Oh and I should have used a capita C for Crapaud in my earlier post. I shall pay personal penance, alone.

  128. Scott from Oz says:

No i didn’t Adam, i was just running with your post.
I never saw the game…just the HIGHLIGHT 🙂

  129. Scott from Oz says:

    Rico, agreed on possible penalties.
Ferdinand was disgraceful, and Freddo himself carried on like a child.
I am sure there we more.
Funny, i just watched the ESPN soccernet show, and not a mention of these gits carrying on.
It was about the red card, Rooney on the bench and Van Persie playing badly.

  130. rico says:

Well UEFA will have their say I am sure Scott..

The way Rio clapped in the refs ear at the end was a disgrace. Had I been the ref I would have sent him off, a one or two others….

  131. George says:

    Morning /Evening ladies and gents..

Ecstatic about last nights footy result …

Could not happen to a nicer team..

Does that mean we will get Nani on the cheap now , now that the Highland plonker has had enough of his petulance..

He’d fit right in with direct competition with star trek
