Wenger goes on £80 million signing spree! Performance of the season, maybe the last few seasons…..

Morning all.

Why did I fear yesterdays NLD, it really was a piece of cake wasn’t it…..

Apart from a deflected shot which clipped Koscielny in the first half and a desperate last ten mins of basically playing hoof ball into our box to try and grab an equilizer did they really cause us many problems? I’d say not really, no created chances and very little to show for a lot of money spent.  Tottenham barely troubled Szczesny. Whatever was thrown at our Pole though he certainly handled with care, especially that first half save.

In front of him was a resolute back four. Ok at times, especially early on, both Gibbs and Jenkinson had a few stutters but as the game went on, their game went up a gear. Centrally, Kos and Merts were solid from start to finish.

In front of them was a midfield of Wilshere, Ramsey, Rosicky and Cazorla, not the tallest overall, but that didn’t stop them fighting for every ball and apart from early in the second half when we had a period of being unable to keep the ball, we won that midfield battle. Not even the big strong Etienne Capoue feared any of our little ‘uns….

I’m not even sure who was meant to be where as they seemed to cover ground everywhere. I’m sure someone will tell me how we set up etc etc but in all honesty, I don’t care, not today.

Then in front of them was Giroud and Walcott, the latter had a quiet game but was crucial for the goal, providing the perfect cross for Giroud, whose movement towards the near post was perfectly timed. His finish was world class. He could only have had a couple of inches to aim for but he found that small space and left Lloris with no chance of stopping his pinpoint shot.

Walcott had a few half chances but Lloris was on fire, without him between the sticks, the scoreline would have been much greater in our favour. He really was outstanding. Ramsey had a good chance to make it 2-0 but unlike him of late, he fired his shot high over the bar. Walcott and Giroud were also guilty of not taking other chances that fell their way.

Cazorla saw his first free kick saved well, his second was cheeky as he fired it under the jumping defensive wall, only to see it miss by a whisker….

Jack had to leave the pitch with a stomach upset just before half-time and on in his place came Mathieu Flamini, his first crunching tackle let Tottenham know he was back and meant business. It also earned him a booking.

Half-time saw Flamini stay on the pitch with the sprinklers…..

Nothing of great note happened in the second half……. Like heck!

The second half we dropped our level allowing the Toots to enjoy a bit of possession, even when we won the ball back, we were a bit sloppy in possession but that didn’t last too long….

Szczesny made another top class save to keep Defoe out, the defence, midfield and forwards defended like their lives depended on it – Walcott forced another save from Lloris which he could only parry to Monreal and how he didn’t make it 2-0, I’ll never know.

The Totts gave their all to nick an equaliser as the game drew to a close, but there was no chance that our players were going to let that happen. They threw whatever part of their body in front of everything thrown toward the goal.

They were a team, they were united and they all wanted that victory, they got it.

And well deserved it was too. Top top class performance…….

The day was set up by Olivier Giroud who tweeted before the game:

Big Derby game, we are ready, passion, commitment, need the fans, attitude, strength and honour.

Boy did those fans at The Emirates oblige!

For a while now, we have seen numerous empty seats at the ground, fans too busy using their mobile phones or other devices rather than watch what has been going on on the pitch. Fans have been quiet, the stadium has very quiet, more like a ballet was taking place rather than a football match…

But all that changed yesterday, fans were loud and proud from the moment the players walked onto the pitch until the moment they left, they were magnificent…

They set the tone of the day, they made it very clear that yesterday mattered, the players followed that theme on the pitch. The fans and players were united as one, they all wanted one result and they got it.

As the game came to an end and some of the players looked on their last legs, the fans seemed to carry them through with their voices.

In return the the players gave everything, there was no way in the world that our 1-0 lead was going going to be surrendered…

And it wasn’t…

When the fans see the effort on the pitch they respond and yes it was the swampies but it would be the same week in week out if we saw that kind of effort and commitment and passion from the players on the pitch.

The fans feed off of that passion and drive and in return the team will get the fans onside and get a huge lift. One drives on the other in my opinion and it’s been a long time in coming. We need it to continue and if the players show those same qualities throughout most of the season then the results will follow and the support will always be behind them no matter what.

The atmosphere lifts the team lets hope it’s like yesterday for the rest of the season, it most definitely makes a difference.

What a day for Arsenal FC, the players and all of us who support this mighty fine club….

The Daily Telegraph report that Arsene Wenger is ready to spend £80 million today..

Do that Arsene and you may just witness that same kind of support each and every week.

Have a good day all…..

    it lifts every 1

  2. ArsenalDK says:

    morning everyone.

What a satisfying victory yesterday! I’m over the moon. Just been reading that we are on the verge of buying Özil, Viviano on loan (Where’s Begovic!?), and a couple of others. Would that be enough? And would Özil be cup-tied?

  3. devilgunner says:

    Great match report Lady.

Especially the fans bit. When they see effort their support will grow and make the Ems a hotbed.

    Have we signed anyone yet?

    Mg…..over to you.

  4. devilgunner says:

According to the Real Madrid website, Gareth Bale has become the first “Welch” player to move to the Bernabeu.

  5. W.A.T.H says:

ADK, nope Ozil would not be cup tied….. As I always say, when the player has passed a medical and is holding up the shirt then it’s a done deal, until then take nothing for granted..!

  6. devilgunner says:

Crystal Palace expect to make Australian midfielder Mark Milligan their first signing of a hectic transfer deadline day.

The Eagles are also confident that Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner will sign after agreeing a severance package with the Gunners, and that he will be joined by at least two more players.

  7. rico says:

    Morning all..

I feel you will be saying that for a while Wath 😉

Thanks Mg, Devil, a good friend tipped me off about the fan bit 🙂

  8. emma says:

    Emiliano Viviano(Goalkeeper) -> Arsenal
How good is he? Hope Scez doesn’t return back to type ego after window closes. Super save yesterday

  9. vernat1066 says:

Hi, great result yesterday superb commitment by the players yesterday and I think that the players we have now that the deadwood has gone give their all for the team. Hopefully we will get some more good news today on the signing front and if the players coming in buy into the team spirit we showed yesterday we should have a season we can be proud of, like you say the fans want to see passion and commitment and will respond to it.

  10. devilgunner says:

Nicklas Bendtner would be a last resort for Palace – but the Arsenal reject won’t accept a penny less than £52,000-a-week, having already turned down a big move to Eintracht Frankfurt as they wouldn’t even go near £40,000-a-week.

  11. W.A.T.H says:

Rico, I’ll be saying it til be play the vermin again….! Amazing how the swampies all go so very quiet and go back to their hovels tail between their legs…! Forever in our Shadow..!

  12. ktr7 says:

Good read.i was unable to sleep due to having too much adrenaline in my system after that game.i loved the fight and determination to win over anything else yesterday.

  13. devilgunner says:

I dont give a Malagan’s arse how much we spend MG.

I am interested to see where the fiver will end. In Rico’s purse or in Kev’s wallet.

  14. Adam says:

Well, what a day at the Emirates yesterday.
If Wenger ever needed further convincing as to the indescribable bond between the team and the fans inside the Emirates, this would have left him in no doubt. Harness the goodwill and support of the crowd and it will certainly be worth points this season.
Before the game everybody was nervous and I am not kidding when I say that a point would have been accepted by most. But the previous evening I had thought about the game and considering that Spurs had won a couple of games by a single penalty and looking at the new players they had bought, seemingly without too much thought of an ensemble act, I was hoping for something better. But I kept it to myself in case, by some bizarre twist of fortune, it backfired. It was almost as if speaking my thoughts would, in itself, put the mockers on it.
You saw the game, as did I. Spurs made very little inroads into our quite excellent defence all game and with every attack repelled and every counter launched, the crowd began to believe and when Giroud, now sporting a quiff of gravity-defying proportions scored, the place went wild. The Arsenal team grew in stature and a very small ginger man in a tight suit leapt from the Spurs bench and started a furious dance that involved a lot of pointing from a crouched position. That little chap really is a pratt befitting of a Spurs manager.
After the game there was much merriment, made all the better by the stark contrast of the Villa debacle that now seemed a lifetime ago. As we made our way out of the stadium, chatting quietly there were a group of lubricated Gooners in front of us shouting the usual rather mundane songs of triumphalism reserved for Spurs visits. All of a sudden they were confronted by a fat, short, bull-necked man with the requisite shaven head. I could see him searching his limited vocabulary for something meaningful to say.”You effing Gooners got loadsa verbal aintchya” seemed to be the deepest philosophical debating point he could come up with. His piggy little face, blooming a bright crimson was just about to drop another pearl of wisdom as I watched and debated how far down the evolutionary scale he must be when, all of a sudden a magnificent police horse with a rider so fat I doubt any Jockey’s scales could accommodate him, appeared from nowhere. “Move on” barked the copper as he manoeuvred the great horse between the gross, thuggish little man and the Gooners, who were now laughing out loud at him.”I’ve been watching you all the way along here. Now move on or you’re nicked” he commanded. Even for a brain so conspicuously limited in cellular synaptic activity, the revolting specimen got the message. As he skulked off I swear he almost reverted to walking on all fours before scraping his knuckles on the Tarmac of the Danny Fiszman Bridge on his way back his tower block flat just off Tottenham High Road.
I envisaged the evening that lay before him. Ten pints in the Cretin’s Arms then a stagger back to his peroxide-blonde, tattoo-covered wife with her gut drooping over the top of her leggings, south of her crop top. No doubt she would get a slap and some abuse, while his bull-terrier consumed the remnants of the Iceland Pizza she had so lovingly prepared for him earlier in the microwave.
All in all a very satisfactory day and a poetic lead into what we all hope will be a day of nice surprises as the transfer window eventually ends.
Spurs eh? You’ve just got to love the fact that the greatness of our club is reflected in the ghastly drabness of that appalling shithole located in what must be the worst area of London. I often wonder what their new players must think, after being made to sign at the training ground, to arrive at Shite Hart Lane for the first time with its corridors dedicated to an event that happened in 1961. Then to look at where the ground is and to gaze in disbelief at the throng of sub humanity that make up the crowd. Spittle drooling through rotten teeth from their gaping slack jaws. Last nights takeaway staining their Danny Blanchflower replica shirts stretched across their monstrous beer guts and that’s just the females.
    I love genetics.

  15. ozgunner says:

big day yesterday, now lets top it off and have a great break waiting to see our new stars in action – Ozil would be huge, have to admit, hard to see but huge if we can swing it – our edge might be the loan issue, United will not offer that, its commit or nothing i think

  16. ktr7 says:

Am with wath on this one.right now its too early to get excited about the prospect of signing a player like Oezil…the thought of it gives me an ozilgasm 😉

  17. stevepalmer1 says:

Very very good report Rico the old Rico is back, Nothing like a NLD win to get the fans back. I was realy impressed with the teams display, the players worked their butts off and were a very tough outfit to break down. I must admit i dont like praising the Spuds up, but they fought right through the match but the Gelling that Wenger said could be a problem turned out to be right. Make no mistake Spuds will be a tougher prospect on the return but so will we. Spuds will be up there all season, i have no doubts about that, and i feel they could be our hanging on our shirtails all season, Results like Villa’s Will have to be minimal if we are to win the league. The top sides from last year look to be slightly less intimidating they will not want to face us thats for sure. Hopefully we have a good result today just to make them even more Warey

  18. devilgunner says:

How many Liverpool fans does it take to change a light bulb? None, they just talk about how good the old light bulb used to be…

How many Spurs fans does it take to change a lightbulb?
None – they’re quite happy living in the shadows….

  19. W.A.T.H says:

Totally warranted Adam carry on mate, the nastier and more spiteful the better as far as I am concerned with regards to the sheenies…!

Seems Man ure are NOT in for Ozil…!

  20. devilgunner says:

Adam………………. a very small ginger man in a tight suit leapt from the Spurs bench and started a furious dance that involved a lot of pointing from a crouched position. That little chap really is a pratt befitting of a Spurs manager.

were you referring to AVB or to Clive allen???

  21. ktr7 says:

I’ve seen some fans say we don’t need Oezil…

    Ozil: 2010 – Goals 15 – Assists 33. 2011 –
    Goals 12 – Assists 32. 2012 – Goals 13 –
    Assists 28. 2013 – Goals 15 – Assists 29.
    Ridiculous.

  22. tsgh says:

    A very fine post.

WATH, you are buzzing mate… pace yourself becauseyou will have more time later on for more GG later before JIm White goes pink in his face.lol

Ibrahimovic: How Wenger saw through me when I nearly signed for Arsenal… and my clash with Barca boss Guardiola

  23. ktr7 says:

I must say i really liked the way flamini played yesterday.he is a guy you’d follow to the trenches during a war.he was immense barking orders which ensured we never lost our midfield shape.he gives us something our other midfielders don’t.

  24. W.A.T.H says:

Ts, GG for breakfast does that to you…………!

    😀

Kt, Ozil is without doubt top top quality BUT……………..

We also need a stiker to get on the end of what he creates, what if Giroud gets… You know where I am going with that eh!

  25. devilgunner says:

Arsenal are expected to make a last minute bid to land Udinese’s highly-rated Colombian striker Luis Muriel before the transfer window shuts on Monday night.
Muriel first emerged as a target for Arsenal after they had a bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez rejected.
The north London side, despite promising big-name signings at the beginning of the summer, have failed in attempts to add quality players.
It is believed however, that the Gunners’ pursuit of Muriel may prove more fruitful than that of Suarez or Gonzalo Higuain – to whose signature Arsenal were beaten by Napoli.
The Udinese forward is understood to be available for a fee in the region of £15 million, a sum Arsenal are more than capable of matching.
Muriel would certainly fit in well at Emirates Stadium, matching as he does the profile of player manager Arsene Wenger appears to favour.
The 22-year-old is a quick and dynamic forward who possesses the attributes required to make significant progress in coming years.
Arsenal are also hoping to push through a £42.5m deal for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil on what is likely to be a busy transfer deadline day.

  26. tsgh says:

Muriel scored last weekend too… he is scoring for fun. I prefer him to Jackson Martinez currently… in terms of fit to our style of play.

  27. W.A.T.H says:

Did you say Muriel doesn’t have legs Dev…?

Oz, Ba has been mentioned last 48 hours….! Anything is possible mate, do we have enough “suits” to complete 5 signings from al over Europe..?

  28. W.A.T.H says:

kt, ANYTHING to get rid of Bendtner is good in my book…! sounds over the top though as thats more than his years salary..!?!?

  29. ozgunner says:

we are the Arsenal mate, they come to us Ozil is already medically cleared – this could actually happen you know, holy shit

  30. devilgunner says:

Harry Redknapp is trying to do deals aplenty out of his former club Tottenham.

QPR boss Redknapp is in for Benoit Assou-Ekotto and young midfielder Tom Carroll is set to move to join to Loftus Road.

Redknapp also wants Emmanuel Adebayor or Jermain Defoe but both strikers will take some persuading to move to the Championship.

  31. devilgunner says:

    yes WATH………I doubt everything.

saves me from getting depressed if we do not sign anyone.

or a couple like Santos and Park.

  32. ktr7 says:

Wath i know what you are getting at but signing Oezil is quite a good start…

hi ts.i remember earlier in the summer when we were discussing how surprising it was we were not being linked to a #10.i said we had no one who really excels between the lines and thats why we create fewer chances.Ozil is the best player at it; not in my wildest dreams i could’ve imagined we’ll be going for him.we create so many openings and half chances; with him they become 100% chances.if he does come theo will explode…just watch.

  33. W.A.T.H says:

kt, no doubting that mate but Ozil alone won’t be enough that’s all I am getting at..!

Vernat, a bonus for that lanky piece of crap..! His bonus is we don’t sue him for not turning up in an Arsenal shirt when expected too..!

  34. Andrew says:

Theo will explode actually good point!!!…. If and i pray if so we shall see!!
    Draxler as back up???
Wages I was reading would be around 7 million a year….
which equates to roughly 135000.00 a week

  35. ktr7 says:

Oz am still trying not to believe we could actually sign Oezil!!!…with all the adrenaline left from yesterday i’ll probably be reduced to tears if it happens 😉 just imagine santi and ozil in the same team…my heart can’t take this anymore…

  36. tsgh says:

Thank goodness… at least Odewinge is off limits. lol

Borini & Dossena to Sunderland, Odemwingie to Cardiff, Bendtner to Crystal Palace & Sessegnon to West Brom

  37. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning all.
What a sensational 18 hours or so.
    Loving it.
    Spending spree to begin.
    Ramsey still the man.
Szczesny still doing evrything right, though still being questioned.
    Yep, i am happy.

  38. emma says:

wath – The bendtner news on the mail is false. Bendtner is leaving but £3m is all false. Arsene wont be so stupid to pay £3m when he has 10months left on his current contract which sums up to £2m. Probably subsidies his wages and pay off £1m

  39. tsgh says:

Kt- re 10:47 exactly mate. Exactly. A proper no.10 will make Theo and the likes score more goals imo…

    I thought a proper no.10 was needed…

TR07 has proven to be an effecctive box to box midfielder… he senses danger too…

  40. ktr7 says:

Wath lets hope we have more in the pipeline and we get them over the line.

also am fine with us paying off Bendtner so long as we send frimpong after him to beat him up and bring us back our money 😉

  41. W.A.T.H says:

Thing is Emma we all know that Bendy couldn’t give a rats about football he’s just in it for the money so he would be happy to sit earn 52k and sell his jewellery line on the side… Nothing would surprise me with that twat.

Ts/kt, Ozil will bring quality and brains to the team but that won;t equate to Theo reading his mind and being on the same wave length… we have to realise Theo still a little dumb on the footie brain stakes..! Sorry Rico but it’s true.

  42. tsgh says:

‘we have to realise Theo still a little dumb on the footie brain stakes..! Sorry Rico but it’s true’. – that is you barred by Rico. 😀

  43. W.A.T.H says:

Flamini will give us scope to use TR7 effectively Ts and hopefully not burn him out…! Great player proper baller..!

  44. tsgh says:

I think Tom Carrol is the best English no.6. It hurts to say but the boy has brains. At 21 y.o its a shame he is not playing more…

  45. HenryB says:

    Good Post, again, Rico.

The most sensible words this morning come from Wath, when he said until the contract is signed and the player holds up the shirt take nothing for granted. So true.

With the wind from the East and the sun in the West squinty eyed Ozil may think United are best.
Stoop to the right or crouch way down low, Ozil might think Arsenal are go.

Meh … I don’t know what I am typing either — just years of disappointment make me cynical.

But that brilliant win yesterday has me glowing with pride. Them boys done good.

  46. ktr7 says:

ts i think Oezil/santi axis will be even better than fabregas/nasri…its so damn exciting that we could be playing them both at the same time… 🙂

also BFG being club captain right now must really appeal to Oezil.they were together at Werder Bremen before he left for Madrid.we also have poldi from the German NT.we have the #Britishcore and soon the #Germancore 🙂

  47. stevepalmer1 says:

He aint that daft Wath i only saw him in 2 challenges yesterday and one of them he got a clump that i would have liked to give him.

  48. tsgh says:

I agree, it hurts me to think this could be the last season I watch TR07 at Arsenal.

He turned down an offer to go back to my other club BVB where he is considered a legend…

The man could have made our invincibles even better imo…

  49. ArsenalDK says:

Vernat, have you seen the video with his amazing saves? Possibly every goalkeeper in the world have made flops, it’s called being human..

  50. rico says:

Hello again all, just off to catch up…

Sp, thanks but if AW mucks it up today, the real old rico will be back 😉

  51. tsgh says:

Al Jazeera arenormally are 99% correct when it comes to signings imho…

Sky and other European TV station do not publicize deals because of betting intake. Agents are told not to stamp deals until bets are recoup…

Spain has started taken more bets on Ozil this morning after closing shop… its all about money.

  52. ktr7 says:

Apparently this is what transpired at madrid yesterday…

    Jan Aage Fjortoft @JanAageFjortoft
I understand Özil wanted to stay at Real. Perez to
Ancelotti: – You prefer Özil or Di Maria? Ancelotti:
    – Di Maria.
    Özil-Camp: Adios!

this guy is close to Ozil’s family.

  53. vernat1066 says:

DK i am sure he is a good keeper, he has six caps for Italy and was or is second choice for them after Buffon. Just thought the clip was funny and yes all keepers make mistakes but you have to admit that was right up there with some of the best.

  54. ktr7 says:

ts rosicky is my favourite player at the club.we should keep players of his quality and experience around to act as mentors to our young ones.i’d love him to retire at the club.its also good to know that he can play that deep midfield role too despite the potential arrival of Ozil.

  55. Woody says:

Theo doesn’t always make the right decisions, but he’s making them more often each season and I think we should give him a bit more time this season because he looks to have improved to me

  56. agirlagunner says:

Hello hello you happy Gooners! 🙂 🙂 Well done, rico!!

WATH, GG for brekkie?? 😛 Devil, I think rico will be getting the fiver. Kev has to cede some money from his shopping fund, but he wouldn’t feel too bad about it, I suspect.

Adam, you really should write some AFC book. 😉 I’ll order a kindle copy, and I wouldn’t even ask for a discount! 🙂

KT, I think you’ll be shedding a fair few tears of happiness later on!

Hello, Scott, Oz, ginge, emma, vernat. 🙂

  57. ozgunner says:

ktr7 i would imagine they have offers coming out their backsides for this lad though, agree? Its down to time now and i still think the loan offer is the winning ticket for him – it keeps his connection to real alive and gives us a chance to impress him – just can’t see us getting a straight out deal

  58. Xr!s says:

Yesterday was great for Us here.. Arsenal haters on twitter flushed themselves down their toilets,it was quite silent.

The Ozil transfer has many rumors on it. Some say we are in advanced talks and have agreed a fee with RM,some say he’s staying to fight, others say to MUFC. Until it’s done,my lips are sealed

  59. ArsenalDK says:

agreed vernat. Didn’t mean to mock you or anything. It looked quite strange though.. It looked like he injured him self in the process ha ha

  60. rico says:

For anyone thinking I always support Theo, please note that most time we attacked I was shouting at my television ‘Move Theo you f*****g static lump’!! 😉

He really needs to look at his game off the ball…

And Wenger should be hammering that point home..

  61. tsgh says:

Emma- you know he is my favourite player. Almost every player at the club considers the lil Mozart the best player in the squad, a few thing Diaby is there too…

The reason why TR07 seems to be still effective is because of his brains. If you watch him closely he does not waste energy at all. I think he is one reason AR16 has improved immensely. Him and MA08.

The move by AR16 yesterday where he checked back and passed to TR07 was just superb. Most players would have run into a wall but AR16 notice there was no one ahead of him and he checked back passed to TR07 and the rest was history with a fine assist from Walnut…

Its funny how all of a sudden the net is going wild about Ramsey.

I remember when I said I rated Ramsey higher than Jack… lol

  62. W.A.T.H says:

Ts, watch Flamini have a positive effect on both Jack and Aaron…! He has that bite that the others lack and most of all he talks and organises…!

  63. tsgh says:

kt- I remember saying Tr07 played DM too and got told off; He played no.6 for BVB when the won the title.

One reason for his alias… He was once the most expensive player in the Bundesliga…

  64. rico says:

    Adam, 10.08. Very good..

A word on AVB – peobably won’t please most but I had a bit of respect for him yesterday. He was very gracious in defeat and it must have been hard for him to admit in his interview that AW was right and signing so many players did cause a problem on the day but they will all bed in…

I wish AW would conduct himself in such a manner when we have been beaten..

  65. tsgh says:

Ha ha Scott I do remember… the abuse we got… its all fun though…

You even had a fallen out with Dna for that… hi Dna. lol

  66. ktr7 says:

Hi AGAG.am crossing my fingers that it happens…we deserve this for all the torture we have endured over the years.

Oz from what i’ve read PSG did not pursue him because of how it would affect Pastore who is quite fragile in terms of confidence.MUFC are looking at CMs since they have enough forwards.City and Chelsea aren’t interested so it seems that its down to us convincing him to come.

  67. tsgh says:

I agree Rico.. personally I would take AVB if AW retired.. ex-scum all not. At least he develops players unlike Mauren.

AVB made Bale… before AVB, Bale was a traditional 10 for a penny winger…

  68. vernat1066 says:

KT I think that Viviano was injured for about half of last season

    23.07.2011 20.01.2012 Cruciate Ligament Rupture

But he has been there or there abouts for the Italy squad, I would rather if we are going to buy a goal keeper go for a top class proven keeper like a Casillas (probably not for sale)

  69. stevepalmer1 says:

Hiya Agag, Always a ray of sunshine when your on. Catch rates are low Agag Decorating at home and laying new floors has kept me away from the banks, Hopefully Wenger wont have that problem 🙂

SSN: Should Ozil agree to join Arsenal, he will undergo his medical in Germany, where he is currently with national team.

I know Dev; you always backed him too… I apologise to you both…

I am not trying to take all the credit. honest.

  71. ktr7 says:

ts thats what we need more in the team:brains.Rosicky has that in spades and wenger rates him very highly.he is not as effective in the final 3rd and changing his role to a deeper one is fine by me.he has the intelligence and tactical nous to play there no problem.

Say what you want about theo but so far in the season despite not scoring he has been involved in most of our goals.his decisions are much better nowadays and as a result fewer attacks break down at his feet anymore. So long as he makes intelligent runs buggy eyes will find him.he is our most decisive player in the final 3rd.

  72. tsgh says:

    Emma too supported JW…

    But Scott was more vocal…

Dev, like you I always thought AR16 had more tactical nous to his game.

  73. agirlagunner says:

I think everyone in here thinks Rosicky is class. Far too injury-prone, but definitely one of the best technical players we have around.

Oz, I am positively on tenterhooks!!

Ging, well, I always had faith in Le Quiff. 😀 And look at him, now. 😀

  74. tsgh says:

Dev, have you seen much of Tom Carrol of the sperds?

I can’t believe Holtby is now surplus to requirement… he is as good as Lamela or Chadli imho…

    Morning Fellow Goonerdom-worshippers,

Halfway through the comments I found the literary equivalent of Terry Richardson portfolio. Marvellous read Adam.

Rico loved the positively packaged warranty. Loose the effort, loose the crowd (even if you do spend £80 mln today).

  76. Scott from Oz says:

  78. AndyT says:

    Morning all.
I’m getting anxious about the Ozil signing. I think he is an excellent player but just don’t have any faith in our reps in closing the deal

  79. tsgh says:

    Mg,

Stephan El Shaarawy confirms he will not be leaving AC Milan today.

Of course Scott re JW. I rate him as a player but as I have consistently said he is choosing to believe the hype than learn.

JAck has technically been superb… but believe me, (maybe Kev who has watched the youth game too may confirm this) JW has always been behind certain players tactically at youth level…

Özyakup and Barazite were more creative and even JET…

  80. GunnerDNA says:

Scott, I certain it’s AW doing those deals, those fuckers don’t have a clue, DL probably is still sleeping, its holiday in America.

  81. tsgh says:

If true I will take Dev’s fave Pastore…

  82. agirlagunner says:

SSP, I didn’t know you were handy around the house, too. 😀

Ginge, KT has always been a TR7 fan. WATH was never harsh on Rambo; Dev likes Poldi and Kev has a soft spot for BFG. rico, used to check out Judas v. Pursestrings thighs, but Theo was always her pet. 😀

  83. emma says:

ts – Spurs just couldn’t cope with the midfield yesterday. The way Cazorla/ Rosicky drops off and ramsey darts in b/w their midfielders was breathtaking. Love the system we are currently playing

    BREAKING NEWS

John Cross has sent us this – and it’s big news for Arsenal:

Am hearing agreement has been reached between Arsenal and Real Madrid to sign Mesut Ozil on a permanent deal worth around £42m.

Ozil is on international duty with Germany and will have medical there. He is keen to come. But the deal is done in principle.

  85. rico says:

    Thanks Dg…

Guys, international break looming so if anyone has something they’d like to put in a post, I’d be really grateful…

As long as it’s footie related, don’t care what it’s about 🙂

  86. Scott from Oz says:

Ginge, some players like JW are too good at a junior level.
Theo was too fast at a junior level.
They are often used in a way to win a game but not develop them as a player.

  87. devilgunner says:

  90. rico says:

    🙂 agag…

Kt, you are right about TW and as long as he keeps getting assists, he’s doing his job as a winger 😉

Tbh, there’s not a player left that isn’t playing his part, just sometimes, fans choose to focus on their favourites and that’s not a criticism…

  91. tsgh says:

I love Poldi too, and SC19… Agag

I think people think I am being overly unfair when I say SC19 does not turn up in big games… I must admit last night he was immense.

The fact that he has not scored any CL goal yet is baffling…

As I always say AW can and will improve any player who wants to learn…. it is up to the player to.

WATH loves any gooner when he has had GG for brekkie… lol

I want the old Kev back after the window closes… he always remained positive but understandably this window has been frustrating…

  92. vernat1066 says:

Another player who is vital for us right now is Mertesacker I know he is slow but it is notable how Kosielny or whoever he plays with are more confident with him there. If he just had a couple more yards of pace he would be superb as it is he organises the defence and with Arteta has definitely been a successful signing.

  95. ozgunner says:

vernat – agreed. Tactics have to be right with Mert to cover the pace issue and against most, that is doable. He covers the grass between passer and target very well. He reads the game better than anyone in that back line IMO

  96. tsgh says:

V1066.. I think it is a bit of an exaggeration when they say the BFG is slow. I think his issue is that he has a poor turning circle due to technique and physique…

When he does not have to turn first he has an ok speed based on what I have heard through third parties close to some players…

  113. vernat1066 says:

  115. devilgunner says:

Ginge………..I did not miss the comment regarding Jack and Theo. Yes they were too good/fast and were used to win games. As a result their technical and decision level suffered.

I am with you all the way mate.

At under 17 level I always used to give my players targets. For example in the game today I want you to focus on diagonal passes which free the lateral players. Today I want quality crosses from you. Does not matter if you are blooming fast I want you to get to the byline and put in a cross. Today I want you to keep passes short and simple to the nearest man and make yourself available for the return. you cannot dribble the ball but only pass and move (especially to ball hogs).

And so on and so forth.

A couple of years ago I had the pleasure (sic) of watching Liverpool scouts at our club who came over to do a training camp with our coaches and it amazed me how during a session the lads were not given specific instructions of what they should do or not. I asked one of the coaches why not and he told me that they assume their lads to know what they should do. At under 17 level they had never been coached by instructions before a game or training session.

Amazing. And I though that I could learn from them.

  118. tsgh says:

No V1066. I hope not. Arteta has no legs to play box to box. With Ozil or JW or TR07

Arteta is a starter for me… Flamini is not quite good with possession. I think Flamini should be used against teams we do not expert to have possesion against like Swansea and Yanited.

Against teams like BVB I will play Arteta… if one of Gundugan or Groskeurtz are not around…

  119. vernat1066 says:

I agree that Arteta has not the legs to play box to box but in a deeper play making role like Pirlo plays with Flamini providing the cover behind and the aggression i think we make best use of his attributes, accuracy of pass, intelligent reading of the game and more importantly players in front can make runs confident he can see what is on and find them more often than not.

  120. Radiogunner says:

Four of us ( I was the only gunner) on a sports radio who analyzed Epl games during the weekend unanimously agreed that of all the top teams, Arsenal were the most organised, compact and the most dangerous so far. There is chemistry, forward movement, pace, determination etc. And that at the moment, the top teams would find it extremely beating Arsenal.
Good 1st 11. But should add to their depth either one or two game changers or very decent players whether free, on loan or at whatever price. If they do that, they would be feared this season in the epl and europe.

I always tell gooner friends who bash AW for playing certain players in wrong position that even DB10 was a winger before he became a no.10. or striker. Pep was a winger before he became a no.6 or 4 not DM even though he was the smallest on the field.

Laudrup was a striker and was turned into a CAM and then started to score more goals as a midfielder than when he was a striker.

I think it is only in Britain that pundits assign players numbers or positions at such young age.

Apart from Lampard and Gerrard how many English players can play more than2 positions effectively?

J.Cole is an example of a player who could have been world class if he had any catch bar Jose managing him at his formative age…

Now lets get some defenders in as we are still short there.

  124. asiangooner says:

  125. Scott from Oz says:

Dutch, i must say, my perspective comes from a much lower level, age group and standard than the other two guys though 🙂

  126. ktr7 says:

I bet Wenger is a bit smug right now…spuds spent £100 mil but could barely create a chance.with them selling bale to madrid they have effectively handed us Oezil who will eclipse any signing they have made 🙂

  127. tsgh says:

    vernat1066 says:
September 2, 2013 at 12:08 pm that will be ideal with Ozil or SC19 playing as Maschisio.

It won’t be different to what AW did with Ramsey and Arteta from February last season or Ramsey and Flamini in the last 15 minutes of the game yesterday…

  128. devilgunner says:

Ginge that is why I think JW on the wing is good for him. It will help his development.

At my club aroung 6/7 years ago they used to think I was nuts playing players in different and alien positions. Now everyone from under19 to under 8 they are doing it all the time. Its two games in your favourite position then 2 games in another. then back to your position and then another 2 in another different position. It increases awareness………and coaching options where to play players.

That is the legacy I have left at the club. And three of the present coaches are ex players of mine who could not continue as players due to injuries or not being up to standard. Till last year they were my assistants and now they are going to have a squad of children in their own right and its up to them to impart what they were taught.

I bet AW is not keen anymore…

  159. ozgunner says:

WATH – I think the media and us fans have a lot to do with this and should be proud we have broken through somewhat – the players also made no secret of the fact they wanted names. Bit like last night, good team effort got him spending money he’s been sitting on for years watching it grow. We’ve sold a 100m of talent now at last some real money is going back in. Without the pressure, wouldn’t have happened… if in fact it does

  160. Scott from Oz says:

Having money and making it available are two different things.
If it was always available, why are we suddenly looking to spend big right now?

  161. W.A.T.H says:

Money wasn’t spent Scott cos he didn’t spend it…!

Oz, it’s long overdue and if we buy a few great players it doesn’t make up for the fact it should of happened a few years ago. We’ve been a few players of being competitive for a while now but that’s just my opinion and I am still saying Ozil isn’t enough..! need 2 more to go with him and one needs to be a decent striker and also i say we lack width and Tom Ince would do me for sure, good solid player who will only get better. Draxler for 40mil maybe…? the club must know who they are close to doing deals with. We wait patiently… As usual…!

re Casillas what goes around comes around…

As a teen he did the same to the RM no.1 then even though he was not that good…

  166. W.A.T.H says:

Not my opinion Scott it’s someone else’s who I trust very much… What does profit get you apart from a large tax bill…? Money wasn’t spent cos someone didn’t spend it…! Now the pressure has finally sunk in it seems also the fact he wants a new contract… Does a few signing cover up a piss poor transfer window…? lets not all get to carried away..! It’s all about realism…!

  167. Wavy says:

If true that’s 2 Ozil and di Maria we need at least one more, then we’ll have a squad to win the EPL, not just come 4th again. Speaking of which, I notice that we lie 4th in the current table, our favourite spot! Ever upwards if today’s foray into the world of buying special, special, top, top players becomes a reality then really, really do have a realistic chance of at least winning the Milk Cup!! Ad maybe a few other lumps of silver too. “I have a dream…….”

  168. asiangooner says:

you and your stats TS….. I am not keen on benzima but LS for sure. We do need a prolific striker and Ba does not fall into that category……

If we get ince instead of di maria I think that money saved should be used to finalize the striker deal

  169. W.A.T.H says:

Andrew, think Ba would score us goals though… a year long loan could be a clever move if our first choice targets can’t be got… Ba knows the league scores goals and would add to the squad…!

  170. rico says:

Andrew, I liked the bit about the player who has joined Stoke from Werder, ‘he is like a problem child and will smash cars’

    🙂

  171. Scott from Oz says:

Does a few signings cover up a piss poor transfer window??
    Strange question, that one.
If they are the right signings, they do.
Then again, if they are the right signings, it can hardly be called a piss poor transfer window.
    Still opinions mate.
Well, until i see proof it is in my eyes.

  172. ozgunner says:

there is no doubt his transfers have been hit and miss and he’s cost us millions is a fact but… if he has learned 8/10m buys you little most of the time i am happy the penny has finally dropped. The window is looking very promising and i will be the first to admit that – again this year as with 2 of the last 3 he’s got a real opportunity to press for a top 2 place. maybe just maybe he’ll finally get it right. Again.. if the transfer comes off, its the buy of the window for me

  173. W.A.T.H says:

How’s it a strange question Scott..? does 100 days of pissing about and doing nothing in the market and letting the squad get so thin with injuries and playing players more than what they should have be covered by a couple of decent signings in the last day of the TW..? I think not…! If the business had been done earlier we may not of had so mnay other extra injuries and I don’t mean the top top quality obviously we’ve waited for that due to Bale but no excuses for not bringing in others to bolster the squad…!

  174. rico says:

Ba is hardly the striker I hoped we’d go for, but, he’s better than nothing and at least no time needed to adjust…

  175. devilgunner says:

Ba or Torres for me. Not Suarez (definetely NOT) nor Benz.

    Yes they are quality.

But if they come Giroud will be destroyed like Chamack was.

  176. potter says:

Ramsey is a year older than Wilshere and incurred his injury a year before Jacks’. This year he is reaching his potential. Next season will see the full return of Wilshere , he needs a similar amount of time and then I believe he will come good.

  177. devilgunner says:

Rooney is a different matter for me. If he comes he can play with Giroud in a 4-4-2 or in a retired position. But Benzema and Suarez cannot play with Giroud.

  178. Scott from Oz says:

Ok Wath…i reckon it is strange….just my opinion.
I just want to see the guy signed and read the reactions.
See how many come out and say they were wrong.
Some did it when Ramsey “suddenly” came good, but most didn’t.
    Still, all opinions again.

  179. W.A.T.H says:

Oz, Ozil is a top quality player for sure and I am buzzing that we could get him but we also need more than him and also it doesn’t cover up the fact we’ve acted poorly in this transfer window.

  180. rico says:

Radiogunner – sorry your comments were stuck in moderation, you are free now, hope you haven’t got fed up with waiting….

  181. vernat1066 says:

From what have seen Ba seems quicker than OG so would give us option for balls played behind the defence and with Walcott breaking as well gives us speed up front. Scored 29 in 54 games for the geordies

  182. ArsenalDK says:

Ha ha ha. I just had a dicussion with a Liverpool fan, who claims that Kos isnt better than Toure. Oh how deluded they are those Liverpool fans..

  183. Woody says:

I’d still like Suarez and I think he could play with Giroud. In fact I think they would compliment each other very well.

  184. devilgunner says:

Vernat I agree with you mate. That is why Ba is better for us than Suarez and Benzema.

Viviano, Ozil, Ba, Flamini. Now we need Ince as well.

    That will give us bodies.

  185. W.A.T.H says:

Dev you surprise me… You don’t think Suarez can play with Giroud…?

Who exactly are you expecting to say they were wrong Scott…? wrong about what…? Think 95% of people on here all expected us to buy big…! The last week or so have just killed peoples expectations and kicks you in the bollox when we have heard it all before and start to think that it won’t happen yet again…!

I’m greedy I want the 100million spent not half of it….! Get us a winger and a goalscorer and we’ll give anyone a run for their money..! Can’t see defensive midfielder with Flamini, Arteta n Vermaelen back soon so for me it’s width and scoring goals we have to look at.

  186. malaga gooner says:

i am going to put my head on the block, feel free to take a swing.
i think were going to make a move for suarez or rooney

  187. agirlagunner says:

We can always make a cheeky bid for Torres. 😀

ADK, ha ha. Toure was never as good as Koz is now.

    WATH, grumpy again. 😛

  188. W.A.T.H says:

Dev, will manure sell us Rooney now though… If we have Ozil will they suddenly think hold on a minute that lot are looking half decent again…!?!?!?

  189. tsgh says:

Potter, I agree but Ramsey was rusty when he came back and even went on loan but jack is not.
I believe jacks issue is to do with his tactically awareness imho…

If you consider both players form before injury, I can wholeheartedly say AR16 was more influential…. again just my opinion.

I want JW to improve for us. i.e both Arsenal and England.

My fear is that AW is so determined to make JW a star so that he can say he make one for England, he may end up either over playing him or skewing his development.

Yesterday for instance, I believe even if everyone was fit i.e Poldi and Diaby or Arteta I am sure AW would have started JW because it was a north london derby. He does not want the questions of why he did not play a boyhood Arsenal (WHU) fan missing out on the derby. 😉

I agree Wath that Wooney can be a decent business. But I would rather have wingers/strikers who can go behind opposition defensive line and play Poldi as a striker and develop Akpom who is English too…

  190. ozgunner says:

a quote from Red London – my question is, how the hell do they know haha!
Demba Ba is yearning for a move to the Emirates stadium.

  191. rico says:

Same here Wath, excited about Ozil possibly joining but he alone won’t help the defence or Giroud up front and he won’t fill the big hole in midfield..

Yes Flamini was good yesterday but I still think we need height in there… A beast.

    Fellaini 😉

  192. W.A.T.H says:

Ts, Rooneys best year at the mancs was when he played as their striker, he runs the lines and gets in behind… imagine with Ozil and Cazorla supplying him the ammo

  193. W.A.T.H says:

Fellaini is going to the mancs Rico,

I can’t believe am saying this but I am with Malaga, I reckon we’ll make a sneaky last ditch effort for Rooney or Suarez..!

  194. devilgunner says:

I accept that that comment may be clouded by my opinion WATH. I have never like the player and never will not even if he smashes the spuds for 6 in every game he plays. I hate the sight of him.

  195. tsgh says:

I agree but I think he has those years behind him…

On the other hand if anyone can AW can. I rate Wooney on the big occasions that I will give to him… just imagine a semi-final match with 20 minutes to go… phew…

  196. rico says:

SS’s report that Tom Ince wants to run down his contract at Blackpool and leave for free next summer to where he wants to go…

  197. W.A.T.H says:

As i said to my best mate Dev, you don’t have to like him… hate him all you want but know for sure the bloke is a top top player and would give us something special up front..!

  198. tsgh says:

13:15 – Bit of breaking news that has been developing all day.. Demba Ba set to join Arsenal on loan, the reliable Al Jahzeera report.

  199. W.A.T.H says:

See where your coming from Ts but have the mancs used him right, they got 30 goals out of him then moved him all over the place, bad management or using him to cover up other areas where they were poor as they know he had the class to offer them an outlet..? Anyway all hypothetical…. we’ll know by 11pm..!

  200. ozgunner says:

we seem to like loaning these Chelsea lads – Tell you what Rico, Everton would do anything not to sell to United so it would only take an offer? 🙂

  201. W.A.T.H says:

Adam, Tom know’s exactly what Tot hi rd looks like.. His Uncle Mickey been taking him over the Arsenal for years…! Much to his Dads disgust of course

  202. devilgunner says:

The only thing I have against Flamini was that he shafted us for money. But then maybe I and you would have done the same if we were in the same position.

But Suarez is all that is wrong with today’s young players. His character is practically slimy and the club will never know what he is going to do next. This renders him a liability in my eyes. Yes he may score but what if the club’s win percentage drops with him in the team??

  203. Woody says:

So Manure are looking like doing a bit of panic buying today, but I bet you it won’t be published as panic buying like it is with us.

  204. devilgunner says:

Demba Ba is yearning for a move to the Emirates stadium.

The Gunners are currently in talks with Chelsea over a season-long loan deal for Ba, but the 27-year-old is already intent on joining Arsenal.

After it was made clear to the Senegalese that he will not be enjoying much action for the blues this season, Arsenal made an enquiry over a permanent transfer for Ba, but like Victor Moses, who has completed a loan move to Liverpool, last year’s Europa league winners were unwilling to negotiate a permanent deal with any Premier league rival.

According to French journalist Matt Spiro, Demba Ba, who scored two goals against Arsenal in Newcastle colours last season, has verbally agreed to make a switch to north London which is still subject to official terms being signed and agreed by all three parties.

Ba would represent the first bit of business between Arsenal and Chelsea since Yossi Benayoun’s loan deal in 2011.

  205. Woody says:

    He’s bloody good though DG.

I totally agree with you, but if we’re honest the same could be said for any quality player.

Look at Ronaldo kicking and screaming because he wants to be number 1.

They all have egos and if you meet them on the street 9/10 are complete pricks no matter who they play for…

  206. tsgh says:

    Very true woody.

As I said last week, MCFC bought a 29 y.o who has less caps than Santos for close to 30M but Flamini was deemed a poor business.

Kev, also asked once that if MArk S had joined us instead of chelsea would the media say that was good business.

  207. agirlagunner says:

Dev, but AW does have a “calming” effect on players. Suarez will score us loads of goals. Has to curb the diving though. 😉

WATH, i don’t doubt the GG bit. 🙂 I fully contest your claim that you’re not grumpy though.

    Hello, Dutch! Howdy?

  208. Adam says:

Wath. It was at its best when burning down. It did enable a whole refit for fried chicken joints and a stream of Cash Convertors shops though. Throw in an unused Job Centre and a shop offering cheap foreign phone calls and that’s about it.
Soldado, who I see has been designated as Bale’s diving replacement, will love it down there. The continental cuisine is second to none.

  209. W.A.T.H says:

AGAG so harsh….. I’m the only one with an outlook of realism and I’m classed as Grumpy… So unfair… Grandad Kev is the grumpy one.. you must see how ratty he gets when he don’t earn a grand a day off the tourists…!

  210. Andrew says:

has not been agreed in the sense that they may want different installments etccc…………Nothing too worrying i hope!!

BBC oddly enough are reporting the fee is agreed!

  211. ozgunner says:

now we wait hope not to see a Wenger comment being “we tried and failed to get Ozil, my team worked day and night to try to get the deal done” – forgive me if i sound sceptical – come on lads announce the signing and lets move on!!

  212. GunnerDNA says:

    If true, is this professional?

According to the BBC’s James Pearce, the deal went dead after Newcastle owner Mike ashley allowed Cabaye a first hand audio recording of Arsenal’s phone call in which they made their bid.

I’m told Mike Ashley let Cabaye listen to phone negotiations last week + he heard Arsenal say: “25 million a lot for a reserve” #moodchanger

  213. BrainwashedKev says:

Afternoon Dutch, it’s all quite exciting isn’t it mio amigo?

Adam, Kroenke has a collection of syrups that would rival Agag’s shoe collection…

Wath I just drove past Camden Lock, and I saw some geezer in an Arsenal shirt dancing in the road,
That wasn’t you by any chance???

Rico, my Fiver is in the post…. 😀

    Afternoon All….

    Isn’t it a great day to be a Gooner/Doomer/AKB…?

    Kif Int Coach

  214. agirlagunner says:

Adam, you’re scathing. The Spuds fully deserve it. of course. 😀

WATH, you’re the resident grump. Cant shake off that rep now. 😆

    Hello, Andrew!

  215. Woody says:

I don’t really want Ba I have to say.

I’d rather Torres, because I think he’s a better player and one that would suit our style of play more that what’s he’s had to put up with at the Chavs

  216. devilgunner says:

Woody……..I am with you on that. I would rather see Torres in an AFC shirt than anyone else……….including Benz, LS, and whatever.

He is the one who suits our style of play.

  217. rico says:

I hope to collect it in person Kev, by the way, my mobile won’t send texts or email – bloody Samsung! 🙁

    Will keep trying ….

  218. agirlagunner says:

All these last minute transfer talk is bad for the nerves, Andrew. Make sure your tea has no caffeine. 😉

Dev, You know I’ve been after AW to get Torres for the longest time. 😀

  219. W.A.T.H says:

    AGAG I am deeply hurt……….! 😛

Wasn’t me Kev you know I never wear colours it’s not fashionable…!

  220. BrainwashedKev says:

Ah the ubiquitous Samsung cellphone Rico, commonly known in the trade, as a pile of shit…

Ha ha, Grandson trying to deflect attention away from his uber-grumpiness…
It ain’t gonna work… Mind how you cross the road young man… 😛

  221. Woody says:

What’s weird is that Bale’s had a medical and presentation pretty quickly and the Ozil medical has been going on ‘right now’ for about 3 hours or more….

    WHATS GOING ON?

  222. W.A.T.H says:

I object to being called bloody grumpy….. What is wrong with you people….! Right where’s me pint of GG gone….! The ultimate misery and Grandad Kev is having a pop at me….! Ourbloodyrageous…!

    😛

  223. tsgh says:

SSN: Zenit have offered Hulk to Spurs on season-long loan, but for a fee of £10m.

ha ha.Every dog wants a piece of sperds money…

  224. ozgunner says:

we won’t get Torres, Ba on the other hand and i think he’ll be superb if we can pull it off. Love the player and his unpredictability. We’ve had one sensational signing, well nearly. Ba and maybe Williams and a great window for a change

  225. ArsenalDK says:

hey! Here’s an idea! I know it’s a long shot, but let’s bid everything Real have paid for Bale + 1£, and buy him back to England, before he has a chance to impress at Real. Now that would make spurs’ fans angry!

  226. Andrew says:

Indeed it’s green tea…My Health will need it after today!!!!
Ozil,Ba/Hernandez,Viviano isn’t bad! But we will see
Apparentely Ozil has to do a commercial with the German national team after the medical??….
Could that be the hold up?…

  227. agirlagunner says:

rico, have you tried restoring your factory settings? Back up your files though. 🙂

Come on, Torres for 15 mil.

  228. tsgh says:

Napoli, Valencia, Roma and Newcastle all in talks to sign Ba from Chelsea. Arsenal offering £1m loan fee. Talks continue.

  229. vernat1066 says:

Rumour is that Kedira is also for sale at RM, and Chelsea are interested rather have him than Di Maria i think.

  230. Keith says:

Malaga gooner ….u really are outrages..no one even responds to u anymore…its crazy rumours like yours that made this a ridiculous and frustrating transfer window! stop trying to be the first to break a signing..its embarassing and it doesnt help the quality of this fine site.

  231. malaga gooner says:

keith i did not reallise i had posted any rumours on here today.
what gives you the right to tell any 1 what they can post.
    is this your site??

  232. Woody says:

Are we thinking that Ozil and Ba would be it IF we got them?

I’m still not convinced by that forward line. Yes Giroud has improved and 3 goals in 3 in the Prem this season is a very good start, but if you compare to others.

    United: RVP, Roomey, Welbeck, Hernandez
    City: Aguero, Dzeko, Negredo, Jovetic
Chelsea: Torres, Eto, Lukaku, One other if Ba leaves

    Arsenal: Giroud, Ba

    We’re short!

  233. rico says:

Keith – calm down – Mg has been asked not to post rumours and he hasn’t –

If anyone breaches any rules, regardless of who, it will be Wath or I who deal with it….

  234. rico says:

agag, the only thing I know how to do is turn it off and on again, think it’s a service provider problem, going to call them in a bit, if they ever bother answering the phone….

  235. vernat1066 says:

Woody Ba is 6″2 and Giroud is 6″4 thats not short its quite tall. Add Walcott and Podolski and thats four forwards. It is Defensive cover I am worried about and no rumours today about defenders coming in.

  236. agirlagunner says:

    “ourbloodyrageous”- WATH, you’re slurring. Haha.

Kev, please, please get Pinky Boots away from Arsenal. 🙂 rico may be persuaded to hand over her fiver. 😉

  237. Woody says:

I see what you did there Vern!!

And we also have Sanogo, but…

I’m not convinced by Poldi up front, but maybe he can prove me wrong and I’m definitely not convinced by Walcott up front as I thin he’s much better where he is.

Also, we’d be moving people from other positions.

I do agree on defensive cover though. We’re good at full back now, but we only have 3 centre backs.

  238. rico says:

Chelsea want £3 million loan fee for Ba, we have offered £1.5 million… Some things never change ….

CB and DM for me as well as Ba and Ozil..

  239. vernat1066 says:

DG i am all in favour of some Park Life just what we need to improve the depth of the squad. Feel sorry for the poor sod to be honest never got the chances that NB in particular got and got to be better than the Giraffe on Ice Sanogo at the moment surely if not why the hell did we sign him?

  240. AndyT says:

I agree Rico. I’m still extremely tense about the Ozil signing at the moment. Especially with PSG still apparently in pursuit.
I would be getting hammered tonight if we were to seal the signings of Ozil AND Fellaini tho

  241. Woody says:

One questions I have is why do we want to take Ba on loan and not permenant?

Could it mean we have something else lined up?

Maybe the Suarez deal would be easier next year? Or we have our eye on someone who’s contract is running down this time next year?

It’s unlike Wenger, he normally wants people in full time.

  242. ozgunner says:

I think we’ll get this one done somehow, the transfer makes sense with Pod gone for weeks – now they are saying we’re within 500k surely we not going to argue this are we? If true of course – Still like to see a 6 footer in DM or Defence/Midfield

  243. Woody says:

I tell you what, if I hear ‘right now’ one more time I’m going to do something extreme.

We were told this hours a go and the German reporter said he had a commercial to shoot at 2pm – if thats German time it’s 1pm here, which was 2 hours ago!

    So whats the hold up!?!?!?!?!?

  244. Woody says:

Ahhh shit, they’re now saying ‘as we speak’ instead of ‘right now’

And we have to keep listening to this German guy who spoke over 4 hours ago – hardly latest news

    I give up…

  245. devilgunner says:

Three issues keeping me on edge now……

    Will we sign anyone??
    Will Bendy leave?
    Where will the fiver go????

Hope I will not be kept waiting till 23.00pm.

  246. ozgunner says:

gunna be a long night for me Devil, its already 10.15pm here – jesus we really need to start announcing some info

  247. vernat1066 says:

Are RM playing funny buggers again about the fee or are we really doing a two fer from there and that is what is holding us up?

  248. tomstoned says:

Great news for Arsenal-fans. I understand that there is verbal agreement between Arsenal and Özil. My source: Just signature missing! #AFC
    JanAageFjortoft twitter….

  249. vernat1066 says:

PSG reported to be after Mata so hopefully that means they have pulled out on the Ozil bid and we can finally do a deal with RM.

  250. tomstoned says:

excactly Vernat…seems like psg turns to mata after having lost out on Ozil..still..until its confirmed im not getting overly excited, but Fjortoft has good connections….mostly right.. 😉
c’mon Rico…relax have a small glass of champers and just enjoy 🙂

  251. Radiogunner says:

    EPLStuff ‏@EPLStuff 3m

BREAKING: Mesut Özil has reportedly passed his medical with Arsenal and agreed personal terms. Transfer to be announced soon

  252. ozgunner says:

can’t see it tomstoned – absolutely no need for another midfielder surely – lets get Ba and a quality DM or versatile CB and we sorted

  253. vernat1066 says:

Incidentally Bales transfer fee was more than buying PSG cost Qatar Investment Authority. The game has gone completely mad

  254. tomstoned says:

    great Rico 🙂
Oz mate..it could be ba instead of course,CB no chance Wermy back soon,Sagna as cover…DM sorted with Flamini who had a cracker yesterday…
to me wengers words yesterday means big surprise Ozil, but he mentioned one or two…well as you say it may well be Ba…or de Maria…
    but we’re havng a great day,arent we..?..

  255. tomstoned says:

    BBC reports Ozil confirmed 🙂
BBC Sport’s David Ornstein: “Arsenal are preparing to confirm the signing of Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. The Gunners are set to make an announcement in the coming hours. The documentation is being signed and completed as we speak.”

  256. tomstoned says:

    Wath mate…hehe
You know us always in it for a good argument, most probable topic…the downfall of manure 😉

  257. ozgunner says:

tomstoned – yes mate we are. If we land Ozil and Ba it was more than i expected I must honest. not sure if its enough, unless we simply aim to outscore anyone else 🙂 but yes more than I expected

  258. W.A.T.H says:

Arsenal have gone from having Andre Santos as number 11 to having Mesut Özil as number 11. That’s like dumping Susan Boyle for Mila Kunis

Tom, nothing wrong with a good argument where you all discuss in a proper way… chatting about the demise of the mancs and the imminent relegation of the yids would also be great fun…!

  259. tomstoned says:

agreed Qz..ive been one of the most critical for a very long time, but heey it has been plenty of reasons to be,then again i love being wrong..
and it may not be quite enough but my god its a big step in the right direction, past summers all have been about selling our best players,
lets hope we have turned the leaf …and are seriously gunning for being the best…

  260. W.A.T.H says:

I think our midfield is as good as anyone’s anywhere, I think we still lack a little width as we still don’t have proper wingers but technique skill and vision in the players we have will be 2nd to none..! Another striker please and I’ll be very happy..!

Draxler, Rooney, Ba or Rues would do me….! I suppose Lewandowski is me asking for far to much….!

  261. malaga gooner says:

wath, there seems to be rumours (not from me) that di-maria is still a go,thats the width problem sorted

  262. vernat1066 says:

Wath we will argue over how we should have bought more players etc.. and that we should have bought them earlier .. or the same arguments in other words. We need to sign two more players after Ozil and the keeper so that would be six brought in to the club in total

  263. devilgunner says:

BBC Sport’s Saj Chowdhury: “I just bumped into former Manchester United and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves in Manchester. I asked him whether he had been following the latest developments on transfer deadline day, to which he responded, “not a chance”.

“I then informed the former Bayern Munich player that Arsenal had agreed a £42.4m deal with Real Madrid for Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil. His response to that? “Really? They don’t even need him.”

Blimey………are we that good already??? Good thing AW did not hear him hopefully.

  264. rico says:

🙂 Wath, hopefully a good CL run, good league run and a CO Cup success 😉

SS’s are also reporting we are about to confirm Ozil..

  265. tomstoned says:

well back to work ..Have a superb day Rico Wath Devil Oz Malaga Vernat Tsgh and all Gooners…
im the happiest ive been since 07…..:)

  266. Wavy says:

We will talk about…………. how long it will be before we see tthe real Mesuet Ozil turn up?
And, ‘it takes a year to settle in to the EPL, look at Santi!’
And what was Wenger thinking of, spending all that money? Etc etc.
    But,
What a stroke of genius getting Flamini back?? ,!!

God knows what will crop up but there’s always something to spout off about. Rico and the other bloggers are adept at finding a ‘burning issue’.

    Don’t panic!

Incidentally who else have we/are we going to sign today?

  267. W.A.T.H says:

V10, six is about right number wise with the players that have left so anything less than that would still leave us thin I reckon and we know AW hates buying in jan…!

We are always gonna argue over who we should or should not buy which is always good..! Be boring if we all agreed on things.

  268. ktr7 says:

    Phenomenal signing. Best signing since
Bergkamp. In shock. Just an unbelievable
    player. But enough about Viviano…Who’s
    this “Özil” bloke?

  269. ktr7 says:

The best announcement would be if Mertesacker
walked out and held Ozil up in the air like in The
    Lion King. 🙂

  270. rico says:

The keeper signing must suggest that Fabianski will depart before 11pm – shame really, he did little wrong when he came back and whose to say this Italian is any better..

  271. Andrew says:

Fabianski needs a chance for the world cup though and if a team can afford him that opportunity the best of luck to the fella!…..I’m getting excited should i be:L

  272. rico says:

I’m not so sure emma, we’ll soon know I guess. If I was him I’d go, it’s the only way he’ll get to be number one for his country….

  273. emma says:

Did anyone watch Roma’s match yesterday. Gerv had four sitters and missed. Put thru twice one on one with the keeper and still missed 😉

  274. tsgh says:

Emma- re Herrera; isn’t that the Yanited way. Fergie last summer said he heard Rowley had gone to see Kagawa a few times and so he decided to go and see him play against BM and he decided to buy him before Arsenal did.

He repeated the same like about Powell… none have really worked out have they?

  275. Woody says:

I’m trying Rico, but it’s been a looong Summer and it’s crunch time!

I fear that something is happening behind the scenes..like United coming in for him…

  276. vernat1066 says:

Can see if my minds eye now what a picture that is

ts – Kagawa is way better than Welbeck, cleverley and grandpa giggs. He hasn’t being given the chance to showcase his talent. He is being wasted at manure

  278. tsgh says:

I am hearing rumours that the reason why AW left the UK was to have a face to face discussion with PSG after AFC started suspecting that Perez and Ozils’s agent were still offering Ozil to other big clubs including BM,PSG, Yanited.

As I posted around 22:00 last night, the deal was agreed according to Al Jazeera but AFC were unable to get clearance from RM by mid morning…

    Expect a twist… but

Is in reality money/budget subtracted from public needs for a global society in crisis.Where people struggle to make ends meet simply having mouths to feed.

Sorry to be a party pooper on what promises to be a joyful day for the Arsenal.

  280. tsgh says:

Dg, I totally agree with you.

I never call for signings myself considering Syria and all…

And then the f@@kers have the audacity to sent me a form asking me to re-join…

Hell No… I have a beer belly now; I can’t did push-ups or pull-ups… idiots they all are.

Tottenham spend £117 million on players when only a matter of months ago the district they represent was in flames as rioters demonstrated about a lack of investment in their area…

  288. Adam says:

Kev. Your 4.58 is excellent. Real Madrid are most needy, self-centred, hypocritical bunch of knobs in the game. Their sense of entitlement is sickening. There could be people starving at the gates of that place and Perez would still be as arrogant as ever. If football ever had a sense of social responsibility, it vanished some time ago.
Now go and spend that bloody £100 million Arsene. 🙂 oops.

  289. rico says:

It’s in one of the newspapers Dg, mind you, Mg posted that 😉

One thing I can’t work out is whether would have got Ozil if we got Suarez?

Or was Wenger planning on both?

They are different players, so I can’t see Ozil being instead of Suarez.

If we are not getting a top striker in the Suarez category, is that because Wenger thinks he can get one next Summer and fill in with Ba for the current year while he waits?

  306. ktr7 says:

  318. devilgunner says:

According to Spanish paper MARCA*, who are quoting La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea striker an Arsenal target Demba Ba has passed his medical at the North London club ahead of a potential move on Transfer Deadline Day. There is nothing as yet to suggest the deal has been agreed or is even imminent, but having had a medical suggests the two clubs aren’t miles apart and that a deal is likely to be done by the end of today, whether as a loan or a permanent transfer. It’s not time to get excited just yet, but this is very much a “watch this space” situation. Given that Samuel Eto’o’s arrival will severely-curtail his playing time at Chelsea this season, it would be no surprise to see him leave today. I think we all just hope it’s a good deal for the Blues.

  319. ktr7 says:

I think Arsenal.will be surprised by how many shirts Oezil will sell.worldclass players sell shirts since they get the fans excited.Oezil’s debut at the Emirates will see the stadium packed to capacity just to see him.

I agree ts.they must be finalizing things now.

  320. devilgunner says:

This is madness. Or is it………..????

Gunners hope to be able to take advantage of Argentinian’s possible unhappiness with the Ligue 1 champions.

Arsenal have made an inquiry about the availability of Paris Saint-Germain forward Javier Pastore, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The future of the highly rated Argentina international has been in doubt for some time now, although rumours about the 24-year-old’s possible exit from the Parc des Princes have started to increase in recent weeks, especially following the announcement of Laurent Blanc as the club’s new head coach earlier this summer.

Pastore only arrived in the French capital from Serie A outfit Palermo two years ago for a whopping 39.8 million euros, as the Parisians started to embark on their massive spending spree that has continued ever since.

However, as the Ligue 1 giants have started to bring in even more big-name recruits, so Pastore’s place in the first team has come under more and more pressure, with the playmaker struggling to earn a starting berth under Blanc so far in the new campaign.

In fact, in the opening four league games of the new campaign under Blanc, Pastore has failed to manage to find the back of the net, with Blanc giving the attacking midfield player the hook in three of those contests.

But it remains to be seen though whether the Gunners have the time to be able to finalise a deal for the Argentinian in what is left of the transfer window.

Now I do not know if this is true or not. But if we were interested in him that means only one thing…………..bye bye Ozil. We cannot have him and Pastore together at the same time.

  321. tsgh says:

Crystal Palace tell SSN that Nicklas Bendtner’s move to the club depends on Arsenal signing a replacement.

Heard that Chelsea leaked #thfc Ba story to press to get higher loan fee from #afc

Don’t worry Andrew, it is done… RM can’t afford to walk away from £40M cash in this climate…

  322. ktr7 says:

I think its plausible to think that we may be holding off on an announcement since we may be trying to tie another big deal.

  323. tsgh says:

    Jeremy Wilson ‏@JWTelegraph 1m
No issues on Ozil – Arsenal putting together statement and lawyers reading and re-reading contract. It’s all agreed and medical done

  331. tsgh says:

Arsenal are so naive… as I said they pulled out of Mata talks and offered Ba to us and we went for it like a rat on a bait… pfff

  332. BrainwashedKev says:

    How stupid are Arsenal….

Mourinho has deliberately strung out the deal, with no intention of allowing the move, and ensuring that Arsenal have hardly any time left to bring in an alternative…

  333. BrainwashedKev says:

But then again, if you look at if another way, Mourinho has just admitted that he sees Arsenal as a major threat….

  334. tsgh says:

Kev- do you not what is frustrating about this… I heard from someone itk that they cancelled Mata talks immediately after our win and offered us Ba instead…

That is what happens when you have suits in charge of the ‘common’ game

  335. tsgh says:

If only AFC fans believe in the team a bit we could make the Erms a fortress… imagine if over the last 3 seasons we had picked the same points at hoime as much as we do away…

So, let me re-cap, Arsenal have signed both Ozil and Viviano???

Still time to get two more if they get their fingers out…

  337. GunnerDNA says:

Aw should just get Cabaye and use Podolski and Walcott as back up Giroud until January, i prefer to do without than get another park.

  338. BrainwashedKev says:

Ginge, tbh signing Ozil makes signing Mata redundant in my view…

Kalou is a possibility Ginge, we need another striker, that’s for sure…

  339. potter says:

Would be a disappointing possibility though Kev. Another Eboue / Gervinho level player . Apart from filling a shirt wouldn’t really add much.

  340. tsgh says:

I know Kev, but they strung us along from Tuesday. I am hearing personal terms were even under consideration/discussion…

Still a bit of an anti-climax after all the excitement.

    Lets go for Ayew…

  341. GunnerDNA says:

Ozil is the best player in the PL, Mourinho scared. I hope AW comes up with some more surprises, they couldn’t take all day to work on 1 deal. Although the Americans don’t have a clue.

  342. Woody says:

    We definitely need a striker.

I guess Wenger sees Flamini as covering defensive midfield and right back, allowing Sagna to make up the 4th centre back.

So surely a striker has to be the priority?

  343. W.A.T.H says:

Two hours to pull a striker out the hat when we have had all summer…! Having to rely on loaning a player from the chavs was doomed to failure…. very shortsighted..!

  344. asiangooner says:

I hope we finalize ozil for sure……. so far we have bought two freebies and one goalie on loan

There has been plenty of talk and hype but honestly we have not yet spent a single fucking penny!!!!!

  345. BrainwashedKev says:

Mascherano would have been nice if we could have persuaded Barca to release him, even if just on loan…

Of course, the parasites could be causing delays and us losing out on some targets…

  346. tsgh says:

I was wondering where twitcher was then,… boom

Harry Redknapp says he’s “confident” he will get Tom Carroll over the line on loan from Spurs.

    😀

    ARSENAL’S FORWARD THINKING
France football writer Matt Spiro: “With Arsenal’s move for Demba Ba collapsing, will Arsene Wenger turn to the foreign league he knows best for a late deal?

“One striker he would surely be able to sign if he wanted to is Olivier Giroud’s France colleague Bafetimbi Gomis.

“Lyon have spent much of the summer trying to sell Gomis, who has one year left on his contract and is refusing to sign an extension. Their talks with Newcastle fell through a month ago, however. The powerful attacker, 28, has never been prolific but consistently weighs in with 10-20 goals a season.

“Nice striker Dario Cvitanich could be another possibility. The Argentine poacher scored 19 goals in his first Ligue 1 season last year and has been seeking a move this summer. However, it is un likely Nice would sell at this stage.

Mesut Ozil has put pen to paper on his £40 million-pound move to Arsenal by signing up for a five-year contract, smashing the Gunners’ previous transfer record by over £20 million.

According to Goal.com, the German international will be on a deal of around £130,000 a week until 2018, taking pride of place not only as Arsenal’s most expensive player but their highest-paid as well.

Ozil had been in negotiations with the Gunners since Sunday and underwent the second part of his medical in Munich, where he is currently based with the Germany squad ahead of this week’s World Cup qualifying fixtures.

I still fancy LS though I know its not gonna happen but who knows…….. rumor is that we have pulled out of ba!!! so maybe something else is cooking

  363. Scott from Oz says:

    Bendtner…..tape his mouth up.
    Break his old mans jaw.
Tell his mum to pipe down.
    Done.
If he ever realises it is about the team, he can make it.
Such a tosser, and yes, a waste of talent.

  364. tsgh says:

Stan K. asked Ba deal to be called off as a result of RM asking for extra cash up front a few hours ago… That cash will be siphon off to Perez allegedly.

  365. BrainwashedKev says:

Giroud, Bendtner, Sanogo, Afobe (if he ever gets fit), Akpom, Lipman, that’s all the strikers we have at Arsenal….

It will have to do us until January it seems….

  366. W.A.T.H says:

It’s shows the two sides of the coin here, we’ve signed a truly top class player in Ozil yet fucked up big time by not adding a decent striker to go with him and help out Giroud and at the same time we decide to keep Bendtner… How pathetic and scrapping of the barrel is that…! Afobe is already miles better than that danish dickhead…! he also shows miles more commitment and passion in an Arsenal shirt…! 2 steps forward one step back so far today if it stays like this.

  367. emma says:

So B52 back in contention for the striker role. You never know he might want to prove a point as this is his last hurray on £52k

  368. potter says:

    Bendtner…..tape his mouth up.
    Break his old mans jaw.
Tell his mum to pipe down.
    Done.

Another player that’s family runs the show and ruins their career . Reminds me of Anelka who got shuttled around for money to keep his brothers happy.

  369. BrainwashedKev says:

Wenger has to take every opportunity to rotate and rest Giroud…

Bendtner will have to be a starter in all the League and FA Cup games…

It’s gonna be pretty much like it was for RVP’s last season, with us fans having our hearts in our mouths every time Le Quiff goes over…

I suppose that Diaby is an alternative up front if and when he recovers.
He started out as a striker…

Yeah, I know, I’m starting to sound desperate. 🙄

  370. tsgh says:

I agre Emma, B-52 may do.

Time for Afobe and Akpom to sign…

    Is Afobe back from injury?

AW has not been able to produce a striker from the academy in 16 years…

  371. Scott from Oz says:

Potter,i see it today with talented kids aged 7 that have parents who know absolutely nothing about the game…that is made obvious every time they speak…..yet have their kids careers mapped out already, and see their time and money spent now as an investment.
    It makes me sick.
They are already all about winning.
At training, they keep count of the goals scored.
It makes me sick to the stomach, because these kids will wake up one day, aged 15 or 16, and hate the game….done, career over before it began.
Family should be banned from sport 🙂

  372. tsgh says:

Speculation in #Uruguay & #Italy about #Palermo striker #AbelHernández could be signing for #Arsenal is not even mentioned by @SkySportsnews

  373. W.A.T.H says:

The fact we’re even entertaining keeping that dickhead is pathetic enough and shows just how short we are up front….!

As I said earlier we’ve only had all summer to buy a striker..!

  374. tsgh says:

    John Cross ‏@johncrossmirror 1h
Sadly for Arsenal, Ba not happening. Chelsea don’t want him to join a rival. After signing Ozil, Arsenal are a title tival IMO. #afc #cfc
    Details

  375. BrainwashedKev says:

I think that’s it for this evening Gooners, barely 90 minutes left and I reckon that the club are satisfied with the business that they have done…

Gnabry, Bellerin, Zelamen, Akpom, they are gonna be the new signings this season…
I kind of accepted the status quo as it is awhile ago…
Ozil is a very big suprise, but spending £42 million on one player, wages as well, has pretty much used up the clubs available funds…

Di Maria wasn’t really an option at £25 million when the fee for Ozil became apparent…

    It is what it is…

  376. tsgh says:

Indeed Kev… you make the point perfectly.

Did AW have the money we were told he hard available?

Ozils first year salary of nearly £7.5M a year plus £40M up front well…

Sagna and TR07 need new contracts too…

  377. tsgh says:

Juventus cancel Quagliarella’s move to Roma. Champions have great depth now: Vučinić, Tévez, Llorente, Giovinco & Quagliarella.

  378. malaga gooner says:

its as if the club thinks we the fans owe them something the way they keep treating us.

im sorry lads but its a f********* disgrace.

demba ba dont make me laugh.how do we go from suarez to him.

even if ozil comes we have been sold out AGAIN.

    i give up

  379. W.A.T.H says:

Oh pleeeeze lets not get onto the cash question… we have save 500k a week from the shit we have got rid off that won’t even be used up on the players coming in or new contracts so lets put that one to bed and kill it before it’s used as an excuse…!

  380. BrainwashedKev says:

Righto, I have been sitting outside my house, listening to the radio for an hour in my cab…

    Not a good image…. 🙁

I going in for a cuppa, it’s done for the night…

I have to be up early to catch the Postman with my £5.00 Postal Order… 😉

    Goodnight All….

  381. Scott from Oz says:

A 42 million signing….a truly world class player, and we are complaining?
Well, in my most humble opinion, a guy like Ozil will improve Theo and Podolski so much that in a few months time we will be wondering why the hell we needed another striker.
These two need ball at feet and space to move.
Ozil will deliver that to them.
I said months ago i thought we needed creativity in the final third, because it is where we fall down.
    Ozil delivers it in spades.
    Brilliant signing.

  382. ArsenalDK says:

Is the Özil deal even happening? We have one good striker, and that’s it. Maybe he’ll use Theo or Lukas in attack, but we need and all out goal poacher. I’m delighted if we sign Özil, but one world class player doesn’t change the fact that we have an incredibly thin squad…

  383. tsgh says:

Scott lets play the Ozil deal goes through… I agree he could be the difference,

Juve went unbeaten with no recognised striker 2 seasons ago and were so desperate they got B-52…

  384. W.A.T.H says:

    Night Kev….

Don’t see anyone complaining about Ozil Scott….! It’s not backing his signing up with another quality striker Podolski is out for nearly 3 months remember and we’re desperately short up front have been for years… Ozil is top notch but we needed more…! When you leave it late you run the risk of getting shafted… we’ll never learn..! Yes I am moaning about our shortsightedness and alos being realistic about how our squad looks one world class signing won’t make us competitive yet we could of been…. “IF”….! so close again but yet so far…..! I hope I am wrong time will tell eh…! A striker in just over an hour…..!?!?!?

  385. tsgh says:

Adk, Frimps and Flamini will have 2 weeks to get match fit. Aneke may be recalled. I have high hopes for Serge, Ryo and Yennaris will get a shout too. Time for Eisfield and Hayden to shine before January.

Arteta, Diaby will be back. TV is back and will be ready in 2 weeks time. Bellerin can play midfield too…
Flamini signing makes alkl the difference. Free or not he is better than Gustavo who does not probably speak English or French very well…

  386. tsgh says:

I understand Arsenal may be submitting a late £12m bid for a Southampton player. I’m assuming either Shaw or Schneiderlin

  387. W.A.T.H says:

Scott, your first line said a 42 million signing truly world class and we are complaining….!

I am complaining mate at the fact that as a truly world class signing we’ve only done half a job….! Even a half decent striker would help matters and help Giroud and the injuries…! Cannot believe we have been so negligent on that front…! Defies belief if I am honest…!. Moving people around and getting ppl on loan is bollox… go buy what we need, As Ts said why not offer 30mil for Benteke a week ago..? surely there are decent strikers around for 15mil who would add to our squad. Can’t help feeling very very frustrated by what we’ve done.

  388. tsgh says:

AW fancies Lambert too… but I doubt he will move..,

Saints just said according to BBc that they do not intend to lose any of their players for £12M…

  389. tsgh says:

@wayneveysey: Arsenal striker twist: Told AFC are working on a new deal for a forward. Unlikely but not impossible.” COME ON

  390. tsgh says:

😀 Breaking News: Imposters tried to represent Man Utd in the Herrera deal earlier. They said they’d pay £30.5m buy-out clause!

  391. W.A.T.H says:

AFC will announce Ozil about 10:55 so they think we’ll all forget they ain’t signed a striker………… 😀

  392. tsgh says:

    John Cross ‏@johncrossmirror 4m
I’d be nervous if I didn’t know that Mesut Ozil was done. But it is. So I’m not. #donedeal

  393. DutchGooner10 says:

    Guys and Gals

Ozil confirmed by Dutch press as well, just minutes ago. Superb and marquee signing we craved.

Still, number’s wise, as in marking ourselves as title contenders. I’m thus far dissatisfied with our club’s abysmal handling of the transfer window, YET AGAIN!!!

  394. Joaquim moreira says:

Give thanks it could have been worst, Fellani playing AM for Man U. Welcome to afc Ozil, i look forward to your contribution.

  396. tsgh says:

    BBC Sport ‏@BBCSport 1m
Arsenal confirm the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil for a club record fee of £42.4m on a long-term contract.

RM confirm too… Perez the parasite… it took AW to fly in to fly to PSG to beg Nasser to stay of Ozil so that we can negotiate before RM sent their reps and docs to Munich.

  397. tsgh says:

Ozil- Arsenal’s £42.5m record signing @MesutOzil1088 says “From the negotiations it is clear the club has huge ambition.” Number announced soon.

  398. tsgh says:

Gazidis: “This is an exciting day for all of us. We have signed a world-class player who is one of Europe’s brightest young talents.

  399. DutchGooner10 says:

    Joaquim

    Evening my fellow Gooner.

What’s up with this Paco Ferreira loan guaranteeing a Baby. Is he a footballer or a black stallion???

  400. Wavy says:

That fcuk for that we have bought a player, not loaned, not borrowed BOUGHT, and a good ‘un at that
BUT we are still short by at least two. Can this italian gk play DM? Or is he a striker in disguise. We all know how Wenger likes to ‘develop’ players!!
Ozil well he’s a start. Who are we going to buy in Jan?

RVP maybe wants to come home and play with his little boy’s toys. Cos he’s playing with his nappy droppings at present. Lol.

  401. BrainwashedKev says:

Hmm, I certainly enjoyed that cuppa…

Yeah Wath, I can see your point, and I tend to agree with the view that in general, the club has really botched this transfer window…

But never, in my wildest dreams, did I expect a signing like Ozil…

He is a truely World Class player, in the prime of his career…

He would walk into any other team in the World…

As someone (KT I think as he was having a nervous breakdown) said earlier, Ozil is a signing of Bergkampesque proportions…

Was his signing planned? Or was it a case of Wenger being reactive to the opportunity of signing him. And the club needing to make a statement by shelling out £42 million…

Make no mistake, Kroenke and Co were shitting themselves at the thought if no major signings and the fans’ reaction… The 40,000 at the Grove vs Fenerbahce certainly woke those tossers up out of their inertia….

  402. DutchGooner10 says:

I ponder and wonder if Arsenal paid 10mln extra cuz of RM/Perez’s evaluation of Bale’s head price.

    Ginge? Others?

  403. Scott from Oz says:

Wath, you are solitting hairs mate.
I never suggested people complained about the Ozil signing, it is obvious i meant people we complaining about our signings in general.
    Pretty clear mate.

  404. emma says:

The ramification of this deal is huge. It will now open the floodgate for us to get super top top top quality signings in the future(winter/summer windows). Just the beginning of many to come

  405. rico says:

Interesting that Ozil talks about the exciting plans for Arsenal, something very different from what AW/IG must have told RvP…

  406. Scott from Oz says:

And splitting the bastards, as well 🙂
Look, my point is we should at least be grateful to have signed a world class player.
Imagine no player of this class, a few free transfers and a loanee?
I do not think we need a striker now we have Ozil, but time will tell.
I am also comfortable with our defence.
In fact, Flamini and Ozil solve so many issues it is just sensational.
    Again, time will tell.

  407. rico says:

Possibly Dg, but that’s football, especially this late in the day and AW knew he couldn’t afford to walk away from this deal…

  408. rico says:

I’m off now, think the day is done for us, really disappointed we haven’t signed a striker, really really disappointed….

That will bite us on the backside…..

    Sleep well all.

    Night….

  409. BrainwashedKev says:

I am very very happy with the signing of Ozil, he has been a favourite of mine for awhile now. Tbh, I never thought we’d ever get him, so I am chuffed..

It softens the blow of an appalling summers work by those responsible for the clubs transfer activity.

They did a sterling job moving on those players deemed not fit for purpose.

Bendtner and Park (has he gone or not?) being the only ones left from those known as deadwood…

Bendtner will have a job to do. Yeah, nobody really rates him but what alternative do we have at this present time???

  410. asiangooner says:

alright guys i am off. Absolutely delighted about Ozil but we should have had atleast one more player, a striker.

  411. malaga gooner says:

if we do not win anything this season wenger should not be given a new contract.

well done every 1 for a bit of craic on here today.

    night every 1

    cheers rico

    not happy

  412. BrainwashedKev says:

Bloody shame about not getting Ba, his addition, even just on loan, would have saved this window in my eyes…

Sanogo, Flamini, Viviano, Ozil and Ba would have looked a solid summers work.
More through luck than judgement all the same…

Sanogo, Flamini, Viviano, Ozil and Bendtner doesn’t look quite so good…

Roll on January and 31 more days of angst, ha ha…

  413. Scott from Oz says:

    I am with you, Emma.
Anyway, i wll say it again.
Ozil means we do not need a striker, in my opinion.
His delivery is that good, i could score goals.
The reason we did need a striker was because w did not have the guy delivering the killer ball, so needed someone who could create something from nothing….that issue is gone, imo.
    Time shall tell.

  414. DutchGooner10 says:

    Night all.

Look forward to your comments after a sleep deprived night wondering what 100mln could have bought.

    Hahaha haha hahaha.

  415. W.A.T.H says:

We’ll agree to disagree Scott can’t see how anyone can be happy when we have one recognized forward fit at the club, We’ve always created we’ve never finished so unless Ozil gonna get on the end of his own passes if Giroud gets a knock then we stuffed. One brilliant signing still don’t paper over the cracks i reckon but seems plenty happy just with Ozil and ignoring the other areas we short. Keeping Bendtner says it all…!

  416. W.A.T.H says:

Kev, Ba would of done a job for us for sure but why would we even be looking to loan him from the chavs when we have another 50mil sitting in the bank…! Madness…!

I just think we’re so close and not getting another striker in is so gonna fuck our season up…!

  417. Adam says:

Wath. I simply don’t understand why everything needs to be so last minute though. A great signing but a job half done by the club. Apparently Mourinho took great pleasure in screwing us over Ba.
Anyway, it is what it is.

  418. W.A.T.H says:

As i been saying Adam, why would we even look at Ba, we know what an utter cnut Moreenyo is… We have 50 plus million still sitting in the bank the players reactions on twitter says it all, imagine a decent striker as well and we’d be right up there but as you say when you wait til the last minute you run the risk of getting shafted and no time to put it right. Surely we had other striker targets but obviously not..! Infuriates me… so bloody frustrating..!

  419. Scott from Oz says:

Wath, i would have liked more for squad depth, but i just reckon Ozil fixes more than of our issues, that’s all.

  420. DutchGooner10 says:

I feel guilty, should be stoked about welcoming Ozil but….. ahh f@ck it you know the rest.

    Night Wath, Adam and others

  421. W.A.T.H says:

Night Dutch, mate you should be stoked about Ozil he’s a top top class player for me it’s just tinged by the fact i reckon we a striker short of being a top side and a top squad, square pegs in round holes for to long, should of bought a striker no good playing people up front who are better off elsewhere, anyway all done now so now we got til Jan to moan… We’ll I’m gonna moan 😀

  422. Adam says:

You would have to ask just what the club have been working so hard at transfer-wise for the last 100 days. A great opportunity missed really but Ozil still a great signing.

  423. Scott from Oz says:

Onya Wath…keep the (lacka) faith bud 🙂
Lets get some more wins on the board and be in a position to win the thing come January…maybe inspire the coub to spend more.
You have to admit though, considering we have both got an app. Net spend of 30 million, at least we have improved a few notches.
    Spuds haven’t 🙂

  424. Scott from Oz says:

Adam, any chance this deal has been on the cards for a while?
Obviously it was never going to happen til Real coughed up for Bale, but under the pressure Wenger has been, surely he knew something.
If not, he has a bloody thick skin lol

  425. W.A.T.H says:

As i say Scott we’ve bought a brilliant player, just think we’ve missed a trick not getting a quality striker to go with him to give us the ammo up front to leave us in a position to challenge come Jan to push on and buy what we’ve missed out on this summer…! We have one fit striker it’s mad mate and does my head in.

We should not be making do mate we should of bought….!

    Anyway I’m off mate… have a good day…!

    Night all.

  426. Adam says:

I am sure Wenger wanted him for a while, but apparently it all came together over the past few days. Just seems to me like the club must have had several strikers marked. Wenger said he wanted something extra upfront. Leaving everything so late just left nowhere to go. If Giroud gets an injury we are down to Sanogo.
Seems careless to me but who could complain about Ozil?

  427. Scott from Oz says:

Wath, we have what we have so lets cross our fingers, hope Giroud keeps firing and healthy, hope Theo becomes a real player with Ozil feeding him, and hope we win the League.
Watching the other big sides play, we are a chance.
    Later guys.

  428. BrainwashedKev says:

    Can’t sleep, so here’s a question???

What if Liverpool had accepted our £40 million bid for Suarez, does anyone think that Kroenke/Wenger would have sanctioned the £42.4 million signing of Ozil…???????

    Because I gotta say no…

Despite Ozil’s quality, I think both Wenger and Syrup would have shy’d away from two multi-million pound deals…

  429. Scott from Oz says:

Agreed Kev, but i revert back to what i said earlier.
With Ozil, we do not need another striker.
His set up play will add a new dimension to the guys we have.
    Just my opinion mate.

  430. BrainwashedKev says:

We gotta hope that Sanogo learns fast and grows up fast as it seems that Wenger is placing a lot of faith in him.

Despite the rumours it seems that Park is still on our books.

Imagine him and Bendtner leading our ‘assault’ on the League Cup at the Hawthorns in a couple of weeks time?!!!
    Mouthwater or what?

  431. agirlagunner says:

I realize I am a little late to the party, but woohoo!! Drinks on WATH who has a GG warehouse!!

Suarez/Torres in January, it is. We still have money to burn, I see!!

  432. BrainwashedKev says:

Sorry Scott, i’m not sure that I agree with you….

I think it’s already been said on here, Wath I think, it’s not the creating of chances that is the problem, it’s finishing them chances.

Look at Sunday, that game should have been put to bed at half-time. Instead we were, at the end, hanging on….

That’s why I desperately wanted us to get Suarez…

Ozil is a great player, of that there is no doubt.

But look at how RVP transformed ManUre into champions last season….

Suarez could have done that for Arsenal…

Not sure that Ozil can if Giroud misses 10 games thru injury?!!!

  433. BrainwashedKev says:

Agag, there is as much chance of Chelsea selling Torres to another EPL club as there was Mata being sold to another EPL club, which is no chance buddy.

Same applies to Rooney. I never thought that his transfer to another EPL club was plausable. ManUre do not sell their quality players to rivals. Nor do Chelsea.

  434. agirlagunner says:

I have a feeling we’d still go for Suarez or another top, top quality signing in January, Kev. We’re really short up top.

Mouriho is k-l-a-s-s-y! This is the same guy who only last week was mouthing off about Rooney not being prevented from joining a rival club.

  435. agirlagunner says:

Stranger things have happened, Kev. By January, Suarez may well be pariah in Scouseland. Who knows, he could hand in a transfer request? 🙂 Ozil is a step in the right direction, at least. I hope Le Quiff stays fit and that Poldi recovers quickly!

  436. ozgunner says:

morning all – I guess the we need numbers all summer, doesn’t apply any more? What a strange window that turned out to be and now watch Giroud get injured

  437. Wavy says:

Don’t disagree with you Kev but despite the influence RvP had onthe EPL, that was last year, ain’t gonna happen this year, even with Fellaini, however, we haven’t had a player like Ozil since Cesc. We have now! The goals will come – from all over! Watch!
Ozil was not enough imo, but he can be a huge influence on how we play and how we perform, not to mention how he influences the results we get. If he stays fit! Just wait till our medics get their stethoscopes on him! Then we’re in the sh1t! For sure every opponent will want to cripple him, all of them! Someone will be successful and then we are back to where we started. With a very good side with some very good MF players.
But for now he’s a pretty damned good signing. Rejoice. Let him stay fit…please.

  438. BrainwashedKev says:

Yes Wavy, I do see your point, and I am, like you delighted at Ozil’s arrival.

He is a fantastic player who will offer us a totally different dimension from midfield.

You can just imagine his passes slicing thru the opposition for Theo to speed onto.

But I cannot help but think again of last Sunday’s game.
Only one goal, exquisitly taken by Le Quiff…

Not sure who else we have who could have scored it mate?

And therein lays the predicament we might find ourselves in if he picks up an injury, like Podolski for example….

But I am still delighted by our record signing.
Hence, why I am still bloody blogging instead if sleeping…
So I am really gone this time.

Night for the third time… 😉

alright ya’all that’s a wrap…hungry as hell. hey adam say me well to the missus you kev WATH ginge and that irish prick micko owe me a drink plus a day of whoring in old Hampton street. gosh what a day that ll be. see ya pals. my job here is done. PEACE!

  449. goonster says:

Rico you owe me you country gir you….how about fido for a birthday/compensation gift. I guarantee you I wont roast its head. just the tasty carcass. the head I ll probably give to micko. I hear he is really a mug of the highest order.

  450. agirlagunner says:

10 am Manila time, Goonie. 😛 You okay? I hope the missus is healthy and well. Bet you’re happy with our signing. We still need a striker thought!

  451. goonster says:

hey AGAG whats your take on Vietnamese chics? I ve got one at work. she is ugly as hell but a freak under the sheets I heard?

  452. goonster says:

manila!!! hmmmm the city that never sleeps. I ll find you AGAG. am planning on a trip to the far east some time next year. I ll comb the whole of manila. I wont stop till I find you.

  453. goonster says:

i see manure got sideshow bob…..good. i never really rated hm. he is shit as passing and way too physical for my liking. plus we ve the FLAMSTER back. who needs him?

  454. goonster says:

no am not……am probably just …….LORD GOD in heaven????? did you say a hundred??? Christ blondes really are dumb! i thought 988 comes after 888!

  455. goonster says:

that’s it guys i hold my hands up….i know when am beaten. i ve got to throw in the towel. the missus is already calling me to bed plus am starving. hey i tried guys.

  456. devilgunner says:

big head will play if all options are exhausted. that means if Giroud is unavailable, Sanogo is tired and maybe the youngsters like Akpom etc are deemed not yet ready.

  457. devilgunner says:

I would have like us to go for another young one who plays in the Italian or French divisions. Or the Spanish one. A player around 19 who is up coming and wants to play.

  458. devilgunner says:

For example Juventus got Berardi, a highly exciting 19 year old. just 4.5 million. but a future Italian international.

  459. devilgunner says:

and at the moment we do need bodies.

yes we have Arteta, Ox and Podolski coming back by December.

    but what happens till December??

  460. devilgunner says:

imo goalkeeping wise we are good. Viviano will offer good competition. Chezzer will get better while Martinez will be given another year to develop.

  461. devilgunner says:

That leaves Fabianski. Now I am sorry this has not worked out in his favour but imo he needs games. And I feel that he will leave by January in the TW. I think there is an agreement with AW that in the next TW he will be released so that he can find a club which helps him reach next WC team.

  462. devilgunner says:

Like Almunia before him I have utmost respect for Flappy (which has become an affectionate name now not an insult). Has he ever bad mouthed the club?

  463. devilgunner says:

But Flappy needs a club so that he can get games.

And Viviano is not going to hang around playing second fiddle.

  464. devilgunner says:

mark my words…….Viviano will challenge Chezzer for the no1 spot and rightly so. We need competition there so that each would perform up to the highest standard possible.

Based upon what I know about him I reckon that eventually he will worm his way in the team.

  465. devilgunner says:

Viviano plays as second fiddle to Buffon and while he will never eclipse him he is also solid and and has a calming influence. Whenever he played for Fiorentina he always gave a good account of himself.

  466. devilgunner says:

So for the first time I think we will be having real competition there. I feel that while in the cups Viviano will get the nod by January both keepers will be sharing the no1 spot equally especially if AW decides to keep the Italian.

  467. devilgunner says:

I have just seen this and smiled a wry smile…………

Premier League side Arsenal reportedly failed in an unexpected bid to bring Udinese captain Antonio Di Natale to London just prior to the English transfer window closing.

The Gunners smashed their transfer record on Monday’s deadline day with a €50 million deal for Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil, but it appears the London based club were looking to bring in more reinforcements.

Reports in Italy suggest the London-based club also submitted a bid – believed to be in the region of €7m – for the 35-year-old.

However, given that the timing of the bid was after the Italian transfer window had shut, the Zebrette could not have brought in any replacement for their talisman and the bid was subsequently rejected.

Di Natale, who agreed a contract extension until 2015 with Udinese earlier this summer, recently admitted he has not lost hope of returning to the Azzurri squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Do not get me wrong. I like Di Natale a lot. One of the finest goal poachers I have ever seen. Up there with Inzaghi and much better than Rush, Owen or Aldridge.

    But E7mill for a 35 year old??

Sk would have choked in his silence.

  468. devilgunner says:

    To the defence now.

I feel that although all of us knew that we needed someone to help Aw has decided that he will go with what he has. At the moment we have Jenkinson, Gibbs, Monreal as proper full backs while Sagna is doubling as a CB and FB. Kozzer, Per and Tommy V are the CBs.

I feel that for the moment AW is happy to let it stay that way and buy time till Bellerin makes the final step. Bellerin has played well with the Spanish youth at under19/21 level so I am sure this is the year he will break in the first team.

Sagna I feel will cover the RB and CB positions and if needed at LB. It is of paramount importance he is given a contract and not a one year one but a two/three year one. A player like him is worth his weight in gold.

So we have it this way……………

    Jenkinson, Per, Kozzer, Gibbs
    Bellerin, Sagna, TiommyV, Nacho.

Good and the permutations with that lot are numerous.

  469. devilgunner says:

However with 50 million sitting in the bank I would have thought that at least AW would have bought in another defender.

I would have liked another Jenkinson, a young raw talent who could be groomed for the 1st team gradually. We are all satisfied with Jenks and while he is not yet the finished article he is getting there and I feel that in two years time he will become the next England RB.

  470. devilgunner says:

I would also have like AW to get Ince. Yes he plays as a winger and not as a forward but whenever I see Ince play the position of a striker comes to mind. I feel that AW could have moulded him as a striker who could play left or in the centre. and his team were asking for 8million.

For me that would have been better than getting Ba or Kalou. and for that sum he would have been a great bargain since it would have rocketed sky high by 2016/17.

I have always liked him and he would have given us many options up front.

    Plus he is another Englishman.

  471. devilgunner says:

Agag do not raise your hopes that Suarez or Torres will come in January. Neither will.

The dippers will not sell him to us and maureen will not sell to us either. And if AW goes after them now he would have learnt nothing.

  472. devilgunner says:

The Podolski injury was a setback. 10 weeks at AFC means till around January when he will be like a new signing.

I doubt he intends to sign anyone since I felt that all along AW saw Giroud and Podolski sharing the CF role together with Sanogo getting game time in the last 10 or so of the game with him playing as back up to the other two.

  473. devilgunner says:

So we have to do with Giroud, Sanogo, Youth players and if all goes tits up we end up with NB (heaven forbid)

  474. devilgunner says:

We constantly moan about having a bad window. And maybe rightly so since we expect the best for our club.

But imagine how RVP must feel now that we have a team brimming with talent in midfield and the wings while he has Wellbeck.

    Ouch.

    And a grumbling Rooney.

    Double ouch.

and a creative talent like Kagawa on the bench.

    triple ouch.

  475. devilgunner says:

    I came across this……..

Manchester United were claimed to be in for Mesut Ozil, before denying it. Was it just to spare their blushes regarding Arsenal’s latest player?

Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil in a club record deal, beating off reported interest from Manchester United in the player.

It was claimed early on deadline day that Manchester United were interested, with SkySports claiming via his agent that the club had made an approach.

United then denied this, claiming had no interest in the player.

But here’s a conspiracy theory in keeping with United’s disastrous summer in the transfer market…

    – After being linked with him for a fortnight, United decided at the last minute to make an approach.

    – Ozil’s agent told them “Too late, he’s off to Arsenal.”

    – United denied ever making a bid to save face, as a PR exercise so to avoid headlines about being beaten to a deal by Arsenal.

It’s just a theory, and there are of course reasons why United do not need Ozil – Shinji Kagawa being a principle one.

But in keeping with the Red Devils’ poorly managed transfer window to date, it would not be surprising if it was the case.

  476. devilgunner says:

how much would you bet that RVP wanted Ozil with him at manure? you can bet all that you have on it.

However now we boast…….Cazorla ,Podolski, Wilshere, Ramsey, Theo, and with them Ozil behind the CF role and that role is occupied by Giroud.

RVP must wish he does not have Welbeck, Fletcher, Grandpa Giggs and maybe another flash appearance from Scholes.

  477. devilgunner says:

Speaking of Manure, would you have liked Kagawa?

I think that for now we are stocked up to our forehead in the creative department, however Kagawa would have supplemented our forward department even more.

  478. devilgunner says:

Right now we have someone who we can term to be the king of assists. We already have a number of Princes in the assist department and to add to them the king of assists is the cherry on the cake.

  479. devilgunner says:

This deal puts paid to the notion of having Cesc back now. It will be impossible at the moment. With Ozil, Cazorla, Rosicky, Wilshere and even Aaron able to fill that role I cannot see Cesc ever coming back.

  480. devilgunner says:

but then maybe next year when TR07 and his legs would not carry him anymore, and when Arteta slows down even more, maybe we can get Cesc back.

  481. devilgunner says:

I think we would lord the EPL with Ozil, Cazorla, Cesc, Ramsey and Wilshere prodding our midfield with Flamini behind them.

  482. devilgunner says:

    Not that I am complaining.

However had AW recruited another forward and maybe a defender we would have had one of the best squads ever, and we could have not only challenged but also won at least one of the FA/Farling cups.

  483. devilgunner says:

We are celebrating this signing. Not since Dennis Bergkamp and Sol Campbell joined the club can I remember being truly as excited as I am now. The move to the new stadium was meant to allow us to unleash our “financial firepower” and I’m glad we finally have. It’s a signing worth waiting for.

  484. devilgunner says:

ok, granted he is not the same anymore.

But I think AW will sign him so that he can rotate with Giroud and Podolski and teach YAYA a few tricks.

yes you heard it here first.

TH14 will be our next signing on a free.

  485. devilgunner says:

yes some of them may have been genuine. Maybe AW really was after them.

But not after them all surely.

There was enough to fill three teams.

  486. devilgunner says:

Was this TW all panic buying?

    Maybe yes maybe no.

maybe Flamini was not a panic buying. Imagine what we would have said back in June had we signed MF then.

  487. devilgunner says:

we would have screamed murder at AW and the club.

yet maybe that was in his plan all along.

    then again maybe not.

  488. devilgunner says:

whatever it is we can be sure that he was one of AW’s options. maybe not the first option yes since it is highly possible that AW wanted someone else and then he moved to the next target when his first option did not arrive.

  489. devilgunner says:

I would have liked Gustavo to arrive as well. He would have given us a big presence in front of the defence and would have allowed the creative department all the time in the world to bamboozle the opposition.

Instead MF arrived and with him and Arteta sitting in front of the defence we look secure although not dominantly strong.

  490. devilgunner says:

Only one team I am afraid of this league season.

    and that is the Chavs.

Not because they are intimidating. or have awesome strength.

but after seeing their game vs Manure and the final against Bayern they will be steely hard to break.

In the game vs manure maureen played 4-6-0.

It was not his intention to win. it was his intention to frustrate.

  491. devilgunner says:

I think that this year we will finally beat manure as well.

it will be tight but I have the buzz of knowing that a team is growing game by game.

  492. devilgunner says:

I think we will get 4 points this year from both games if everyone is fit and AW has a full choice for the games.

  493. devilgunner says:

what I like about this team is the ability to keep the ball and mix it with strength and a good bite in tackle.

  494. devilgunner says:

our endavour and perseverance got us through last Sunday.

granted we should have put the game to bed by halftime and we were playing against Lloris practically.

However what amazed me was the fact that barring one great save by Ches the latter was hardly troubled.

We have to keep in mind the whole game not sporadic incidents.

  495. devilgunner says:

    take Giroud for example.

we were all barking mad for a CF and I was one of them. Player this that and what’s next. However we have to keep in mind that a lot of the criticism Giroud received was unwarranted, however, given the player was still settling into life in the Premier League. But what he has demonstrated over the past few weeks shows he can develop into a top class striker in this country.

Giroud’s close control, his touch and his ability to finish – as showcased in Arsenal’s North London Derby win over Tottenham – shows he has the attributes of a very fine footballer, and with a fee in the region of £13m, he could prove to be an absolute bargain.

  496. devilgunner says:

would RVP have given us that?

maybe yes maybe no. maybe more yes than no.

But we would never know since Giroud is the one we have right now and he has given us that last sunday.

  499. devilgunner says:

Mesut Ozil says the opportunity to work with manager Arsene Wenger was a major factor in his decision to sign for Arsenal.

The Germany international completed a sensational club record £43million move from Real Madrid to the Gunners last night.

Ozil had attracted interest from Manchester United and French giants Paris St Germain over the course of the summer, but he insists it was an easy decision to join Arsenal.

“It will be great for my own personal development as a player and I am particularly looking forward to working with Arsène Wenger,” said the 24-year-old.

“From our negotiations it is clear the club has huge ambition and I look forward to being part of an exciting future.”

Ozil will wear the number 11 shirt at Arsenal, and he becomes the Gunners’ fourth signing of the summer after goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano, midfielder Mathieu Flamini and young striker Yaya Sanogo.

  500. devilgunner says:

    number 11 shirt ehhhh.

the last incumbent went like a little child to take RVP’s one as a souvenir.

maybe this time around it will be RVP who will go like a little child (he has one in his heart after all) to beg for Mesut’s shirt.

  501. devilgunner says:

I doubt that this time around Manure will bully us like they used to do. I look at the other squads and maybe with the exception of the chavs I see ours as superior to the rest.

  502. devilgunner says:

you might say what about shitty and the scum and the dippers.

yes they have strengthened…….but they all have a lot of signings

and they need to gel together.

we do not know if they will work out.

  503. devilgunner says:

manure may have signed Fellaini and that is a bonus for them, however they have not strengthened that much and this is where moyes will be found out.

he is used to Everton where the level is not so high as manure. he went to manure and saw that what he had were superior to the ones he had and thought that he would not strengthen, neglecting the fact that other clubs in the EPL are stronger.

  504. devilgunner says:

time will tell if he was right.

shitty and scum have good squads but they need time and the teams they have now will need at least till next season to gel together.

  505. devilgunner says:

our team did not have wholesale changes. Flamini returned but he knows what to expect. Ozil will integrate gradually and I feel he will not be used immediately. Sanogo is still young while Viviano will start but not in the important matches.

  506. devilgunner says:

the rest of the team have been playing together regularly now for over a year and are used to each other. that will serve us in good stead for this year.

  507. devilgunner says:

    Rico must be happy now…………….

    this is 1001’st comment.

    is this a milestone Rico???

    is it a first time?????

  508. devilgunner says:

    I am happy too.

    result vs the scum.

    Ozil signing.

AND THE FIRST BLOODY RAIN FALL HERE AFTER THE HOT SUMMER.

  509. devilgunner says:

    I started at 937.

    it was fekking tiring.

but I went after it like a dog with a bone and never let loose.

I was determined to pull it through.

  510. bradster says:

    Hi Devil,
Been here a while? I guess everyone is sleeping in after the late night.
Gotta hope Giroud stays fit until Jan when we buy Rooney who by then will be pissed off not playing or Suarez if Liverpool’s season takes a turn for the mediocre.
I truely hope some of the youngsters get their chances now that the squad is thin.

  511. devilgunner says:

Goonie tried to reach 1000 by himself but soon got tired.

shame on him 😉 ….a 27 year old beaten by a 45 year old. 😆

  512. devilgunner says:

nope. the missus and the little prince are still asleep.

and I always wake up at 5.00am no matter what time I sleep.

so I came immediately to the laptop and logged in.

  513. devilgunner says:

    Hiya Bradster.

I do not think Shrek will come in January or another striker for that matter.

Its Giroud, Poldi, Yaya and TH14 next October when his contract expires.

  514. devilgunner says:

So here are some lucky numbers for you to play at the lotto……

    3, 7, 13, 20, 34.

that is five numbers for you all to play.

hopefully you can celebrate when your next lotto draw goes up. 🙂

  515. devilgunner says:

yes EPL clubs can still loan………but not to each other. Only to the lower divisions or outside England.

  516. devilgunner says:

no we cant loan from abroad.

We can loan to others but Premier clubs, or the top clubs in the premier of any country cannot add players.

  517. devilgunner says:

it means we cannot have players coming in from anywhere.

for example we cannot get Ince on loan from blackpool

we cannot get a player from another club outside the country.

but we can send our players, like Bendy for example on loan to a first division club……but they must play in an open field because stadium enclosures must be able to allow his head to pass through first so he can be crane-lowered in the ground so that he might play. 😆

  518. devilgunner says:

    wooowwwwww. look at this……………..

our total gross spend on transfers over the last 3 seasons, since Kroenke took control in fact, is as great as our total gross spend over the previous 10 seasons combined.

  519. devilgunner says:

Brad those numbers are a combination of the the exact time and date the 1000th comment was entered today……..3rd September 2013 at 7.34am.

    hence 3 7 13 20 34.

you can add the 9 for September as well.

  520. rico says:

Oh, bugger. Thought AW might try and loan a striker… Guess not..

The Mirror reckon we tried for Benteke and Rooney yesterday…

  521. devilgunner says:

    I doubt it Rico.

But I feel that he will give it a go till December 31st and then maybe Benteke and Rooney might be bought.

but as I said earlier in my comments this morning…………it will be Giroud, Podolski, Yaya and maybe TH14 when his contract expires in October.

  522. Lee says:

Morning all….cracking signing but I’m gutted we didn’t get a top draw striker. Seems weird that you’d bid £40m for one and then decide not go for one….ho hum!

  523. devilgunner says:

Here is the quality that makes up the top four including our very own Özil:

    Ozil – 47
    Messi – 47
    Ribery – 38
    Ronaldo – 37
Having the likes of Ronaldo, Higuain and Benzema ahead of him, it is hardly surprising the midfield maestro is high up there but to be at the top alongside Messi is a exceptional and bodes well for his future as Arsenal’s main creative force through the middle.

We’ve also had a quick look at some of Ozil’s statistics from the last campaign and compared them to our most fruitful attacking midfielder last season – Santi Cazorla.

    Ozil 2012/13 stats

    Appearances: 23 (9)
    Total Goals: 9
    Total Assists: 13
    Pass Accuracy: 85.1%
    Key Passes Per game: 2.9
    Accurate Through Balls: 17

    Santi Cazorla 2012/13 Stats

    Appearances 37 (1)
    Goals: 12
    Assists: 11
    Pass Accuracy: 86.8%
    Key Passes Per game: 2.5
    Accurate Through Balls: 30

  524. devilgunner says:

if we had got another winger in that category we would have the most dangerous advanced midfield in our history.

yes it would have rivalled the DB10, BP07,FL08

and it would have rivalled the one of Alex James, Bastin and Hulme.

    OMG.

    what is next???

  525. devilgunner says:

Brad……..there are so many permutations and combos that I can tell you that it has Mourinho running scared.

that is why he did not allow Ba to join us.

it would have made us dead certs to run away with the league.

  526. devilgunner says:

    enjoy Rico.

I dare say you will be singing a tune and wearing a grin as wide as Kev’s steering wheel.

and do not steer clear of any spuddie fans you might encounter.

Tell Fido that they are all postmen. 😆

  527. bradlop says:

I see Flamini been a fixture as Cazorla and Ozil will not be breaking up much in midfield. We may even see Arteta alternating with Flamini and Ramsey.
I’m not sure where Wilshere will fit in this team as a regular starter.

  528. devilgunner says:

Brad….as I said there are so many permutations its frightening.

first of all they will be rotated. all will play.

secondly you can play Flamini and Aaron as DM
Wilshere on the left, Ozil, Cazorla on the right.

Ozil and Cazorla will not play all the matches.

Many have been crying for a striker. But I have been saying it all along that Podolski was bought to play as a CF not as a winger.

  529. Lewis says:

    Fantastic signing!

Shame no striker or defender, but we have to take the positives. The boost this player could give everyone involved with the club cannot be underestimated, this will get bums on seats and a buzz throughout the stadium I don’t think we have seen the likes of since we moved to the Ems. Gutted it’s now the interlull and will be literally praying none of our players pick up knocks, lets keep this momentum going.

What a great few days to be a gooner!

  530. bradster says:

Pity there’s an international interlul, i’m excited to see how we fair with Ozil.
I prefer Pod as a second striker, shoot on sight kind of player. He doesn’t come accross for me as a neat finisher or someone that can bring others into the play how Giroud can nor run onto anthing behind the defence.

  531. Lewis says:

Indeed lee. The recent tactic of smothering cazorla isn’t going to work as now we have another player who is even more devastating. I can’t fucking wait!

  532. tsgh says:

    Morning all,

    I am chuffed… I almost creamed like Goonie… 😀

Dev, our midfield will be oozing with class.
Remember Ozil can play on the RHS and cover Theo. He can even play as a striker too but he has not done that at senior level…

B-52 will come good. He will want a new contract with a bigger club and I think even TGSTEL will have humility to develop; we may not like him but the boy had talent 3 or 4 years ago but unfortunately his dad messed him up…

With TV, Flamini, Frimps, Sanogo all staying behind to train for the next 2 weeks I believe we will have a decent squad for Sunderland away after the break.

I will rest the likes of Ramsey and Sc19 for OM in the CL afterwards…

  533. tsgh says:

Serge looked good against Napoli in the Erms cup… he looks ready.

Abou comes back in October for 3 weeks 🙂 and MA08 comes back just before October. Players like Frimps will learn from Flamini and he is a nice option to have too…

  534. tsgh says:

We also made a late bid for Benteke on Sunday evening I heard but Villa told us if they found a replacement then we can discuss… allegedly.

  535. malaga gooner says:

    morning all.
how can any 1 be happy with the clubs transfer dealings.
we have yet again been mugged of,it was only pressure from the board that shifted wengers arse into gear to sign ozil.
we had a huge opportunity and the money to buy more than 1 quality player and then we make a deadline day move to loan demba ba.
i think this is wengers last season, great manager but he is own worst enemy
    very unhappy

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere believes his club made the best signing of the transfer window with the club record £42.5million capture of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.

ginge,, when a big club makes a move for a player they get him.
if we had offered villa 35mill they would of bitten our hand off.

    Morning All

Blimey Coach, you was busy this morning…

I as that Stan popped in and creamed his pants…

Morning Lee, we thought you’d been kidnapped? 😉
But as you say, doesn’t make a lot of sense, bidding £40m for a striker and not getting an alternative in the end…

Mg, we will be more than ok…

A few on here believed a proper no.10 is more crucial for us than a striker.

And thankfully, Ozil is one of the last of a dying breed of no.10 in the mold of Gheorghe Hagi, Valderama, Laudrup, Gullit, Viali, DB10 and there I say Maradona. Players do not come out of the football factory like him anymore…

There was never any guarantee Suarez would fit in. I will take Ozil above Bale, Mata and even Pastore any day. Only Lavezzi may be as good as a no.10 but he won’t have given the regular gooner the same buzz as Ozil..

I believe Akpom will score for us.. AW will make Sanogo good. Even B-52 will do a very good job for us. He was very good for Sunderland the year before to get a loan deal with the Old Lady…

There is no point in seething.. we have what we have now and it is far far better than what we had on Sunday.

  540. tsgh says:

Mg, Yanited made bids several as a matter of fact and failed… big clubs in this climate means jack all.

The Benteke bid was too late, we gave them less than 24 hours to find a replacement. Benteke did not join the Belgiums until very late as he was expecting a move…

As Dev said earlier even Di Natale who I rate very highly was keen to come in because of AW but it was a bit late.

Even Ibrahimovic who has won it all said in his autobiography he wants to work with AW…

PSG tried to pinch Ozil from us and tried to offer us Pastore instead… As I said yesterday AW had a face to face with Naseer and after AW had a chat with Ozil he was convinced this is the place for him…

No one knows what was said but this morning the papers are saying Ozil chose us over PSg… it is either true or AW begged Naseer to back off…
