Wenger confirms New Signings, Perfect New Partnership Unveiled today and Lansbury to Stay…..

‘Save The Children’ is the new Charity Arsenal will be in partnership with and the club will unveil this today before The Emirates Cup begins. We all know how much stick Arsene gets for signing the young plays, so when I heard this I chuckled, just for a moment.

I thought it was quite funny 🙂

In no way though am I ridiculing Save The Children, it’s a fantastic charity which helps transform children’s lives across the world and if you want to donate, please follow the link in the sidebar.

Our Chief Executive, Ivan Gazidis said:

We are extremely proud and excited to partner with Save the Children. We have a tradition on and off the pitch of bringing the best out of young people and know the Arsenal badge can open the door to youngsters who may otherwise not be reached. By working with Save the Children we will provide more young people around the world with the skills and opportunities they need to be the best they can.

Justin Forsyth, Chief Executive of Save the Children added:

We are absolutely thrilled to be joining with Arsenal Football Club on this exciting new partnership. With our combined local and global reach we can make a huge difference to children’s lives in the UK and overseas. Indeed, it seems that everywhere I travel children tell me they support Arsenal! This partnership is built on our common belief that every child is born to fulfil their potential. By working together on education we can help thousands of children do just that.

Reports came out yesterday suggesting Mata will be at the Emirates today with Ivan so whilst you are sat in your seats, or tuned into ESPN, keep an eye out and keep us updated – you never know, his signing might be confirmed just before the tournament kicks off, wouldn’t that be something?

Great news came out from Arsenal, well from Arsene Wenger and Young Guns broke the news that Wenger intends to keep Lansbury at the club. I’m chuffed and hope we see him playing this weekend and that convinces him not to ask for a move on for first team football.

Henri has the talent to play for Arsenal football club and he has a chance to play for us this season.

Amen to that Arsene.

Talking of Arsene, he’s was more open yesterday about any potential signings:

Our business will be done sooner rather than later but it is difficult to speak about any individual player because that makes things difficult, I cannot complain about other clubs talking about our players and then do the same.

I like the player [Mata], but that does not mean we will buy him. The other player [Jagielka] is under contract at Everton. If we want to buy a player, we need first the agreement of their club.

Well, well – Go Arsene Go and I don’t mean out the door…… 😉

Have a good day all, enjoy the footie….

GOod morning. Great news about lansbury indeed. But when it comes to mata, I’m not so sure.. I’m quite pessimistic actually.. but I would love to be proved wrong…

  2. W.A.T.H says:

    morning 😉

Sorry Rico don’t mean to upset you on Lansbury but he also added that we’re conjested in that position and wenger must also decide if he will get a game or not and maybe if not he would have to look at letting him go….!

As for the other Mata………. nothing happening it seems and all gossip with no action….! I hope Stan doesn’t have to go slit his wrists…!

  3. W.A.T.H says:

IF we were getting Mata it would of been done by now, to give others a sniff that he is available and a deal is possible we’d lose out so if its not done already it wont happen if it ever was….!

  4. W.A.T.H says:

This the last comment he makes……… Leaves the door open for him to get rid eh….!

“I have to give him a chance at some stage and as quickly as possible. I believe in him. But if I honestly believe he will not play this season or has no chance to compete for a position I will tell him and let him go.”

  5. EN2Gooner says:

It was this stage last season (Emirates cup) Wenger decided Wilshere could play a role, after toying with the idea of sending him out on loan. So I’m curious because after Wenger has said he has a future at the club, he can play for arsenal, next romford pele blah blah, he played Lansbury in a reserve game last night. I’m not expecting him to feature this weekend and If i was him I would leave, he needs 1st team football, not going to get it here and he has 1 year left on his contract, no point in him renewing. I don’t see Wenger losing out (or wanting to at least) on a transfer fee and possible hefty sell on clause. Remember we got £7.5 million when Bentley went to Spurs? Wenger sees these players as investments and sadly over the past few years Money, Diaby and denilson have taken precedent over young british talent

  6. REDgoon says:

WATH, Wenger said he would let him go if he thought Henri has no chance of getting into the first team. And he thinks he has a chance, so he stays unless he asks to leave.

  7. kola77 says:

make hail when d sun is shining. Encourage fans and lovers of d club. Good morni.overs of d club. Good morni.

  8. ken says:

This Mata stuff is all over. How just wish it would have some truth in it. This I think has been our “busiest transfer” ever under Wenger. Really looking forward for the start of the season and our offensive line is looking the deal. How I wish I could say the same about our backline.

  9. GunnerPete says:

The record so far this summer is IN = one Frenchman and one young Fin and out One Frenchman and five Englishmen. Not what I was hoping for. Not a massive queue for Bentner,Almunia, Eboue, Denilson was there? And why are still holding onto Sunu, Manone, Eastmomd, Bortello etc and yet sell JET?????

Sorry but its the same old story ie; all UK players have usually one chance only and unless they excel immediately they are gone…but some foreigners have chance after chance and fail but are still being paid???

As for signings, over the last 60 years Ive learned that with AFC nothing is sure until the last minute.

  10. rico says:

That’s not so good then WATH, hope he plays this weekend and shows just what he’s made of….

Morning to those just joining HH today, welcome….

  11. rico says:

    Pete, Gervinho isn’t French 😉

He’ll be off to the ACON…

Agree re the chances the Brits get, Jack is the exception but every man and his dog can see what he has….

  12. W.A.T.H says:

REDgoon, why say you think he can make it but then add we’re conjested in that area and if I dont think he can get a game I will tell him and let him go…? very contradictory…!

  13. rico says:

WATH, but he also said that Lansbury has the talent/ability to play for Arsenal – I don’t know why Wenger doesn’t give him a chance this season, i’d rather him in a red and white shirt than Nasri and Fabregas right now, ok he may not be as good but he’d bloody well fight for the club he loves…

  14. K-TR7 says:

Good read.im tired of the cesc saga.he has shown the club no respect whatsoever during the entire summer.its disappointing that our club captain is behaving like a child.he may want to leave but that doesn’t give him the right to behave the way he has.he has strengthened barca’s hand while severely weakening ours.a real captain who loves his club would show more professionalism by letting the two clubs thrash a deal as he participated in our preseason.now cesc is far behind the others and if he is forced to stay he has burnt the bridges already.this sitiuation stinks…

  15. K-TR7 says:

We won’t get Mata.if its true that we haven’t bid yet then we won’t sign him.spurs have bid £22mil already according to reports and with Mancini saying he is after a midfielder/winger you can bet on it that he will be interested.Mata for €21mil is an absolute steal and we are going to lose out because the club lacks that killer instinct in the market nowadays.Alvarez deal was hijacked because we dallied over a few mil,the same thing will happen to Mata unfortunately.

  16. Potter says:

All this discontent with Cesc is playing into Rossell’s hands. At the moment Cesc has kept quiet in public and has not created the situation where he has to be sold at a knock down price. If he publicly says he wants out then the Barca offer has to be accepted. If the fans turn against him then his attitude may well change and he will ask to go ,which would cost the club the best part of £3 to £4 million.

  17. rico says:

Hi Kt, i don’t think we have got Mata either….

Hi Potter, he’s our captain, he can’t play in pre-season because his head is not settled, dreadful example to set – it’s a shame he doesn’t go up to wenger and just say –

if barca want me and they offer the right money i will go if you let me, if not, i am the captain and i will make sure i am fit and ready for the new season with my club

  18. W.A.T.H says:

I kind of disagree a little Potter, cesc came out straight away a few yrs back and always stated his love for the club and he was going nowhere… since when have you heard that from him in the last 18months…? The club needs to show they are also not being help to ransom by anyone let alone the so called captain, wenger needs to stop the pampering and give the captains armband to someone more deserving and state that cesc cant cope with the pressure so best all round if someone else becomes club captain. we need to grow some all round as a club actually not the first time wenger has let one of his stars take the piss and them pamper to them…!

  19. W.A.T.H says:

Spot on Rico thats how it should be, not sulking cos “his” boyhood club actually don’t want him as much as he thought, his mates want him but seems the club really dont care as other players are far more important to buy from their viewpoint.

  20. alan b'stard M P says:

Well, looks like AW and the board are getting closer to young ones via a charity. If you think that is in bad taste, well, the truth as I see it is not always palatable

I believe sincerely that is what they are doing

  21. ArsenalDK says:

Has anyone seen that Pastore has been sold to PSG? Those Qatar people go on my nerves (in a non racist way). They’ve transformed City in to a big club, and now look at PSG, hardly a team to fear, but they’ve already bought Menez, Sissoko, Matuidi and now Pastore.. They’re certainly going to be exciting to follow…

  22. K-TR7 says:

Thats exactly what he should’ve done rico.at least nasri is doing it despite all the specultation.cesc having missed the entire preseason schedule smacks of petulance from our captain.Wenger must feel very let down by cesc for him to come out in public to hung him dry.thats not how a captain should behave.he should be stripped of the captain’s armband regardless of whether he stays or goes.

  23. rico says:

    Hi alan,

i think they are trying to capture more fans across the world, and i think it’s more about money on sales, shirts etc…

  24. W.A.T.H says:

He wont do it KT, we will not want to “upset” cesc by taking the captaincy away…! Pathetic needs to be done to make a statement to the fans as well to show noone is bigger than the club, even TH14 said that yesterday….!

  25. Merlin96 says:

    Henri Lansbury?
The fate lies in his hands.
WIll he signs the new contract extension and waits patiently like Aliadiere, Justin Hoyte and Jay SImpson, who all reluctantly leave Arsenal at 23/24 year old when they accepted that they can’t break thru’ into 1st team?

Or does a “David Bentley” and leaves thinking he got a divine right to play in the first team when he cna’t even nailed down a “starter slot” at Norwich?

Wenger said he will only sell him if he refuses to sign that new contract extension.

  26. rico says:

WATH – i’m with you about Barca, i don’t think they really want him, the ‘love’ is in the players not the manager/owners…..

Kt, yes nasri is keeping himself fit but no doubt it’s so he starts for Citeh 😉

Totally agree about the captaincy, wenger needs to give that honour to a player who loves arsenal, not Barca!

    Tv or RvP for me….

  27. K-TR7 says:

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if nasri signs a new contract the minute cesc is sold.we all know nasri craves individual awards like the ballon d’or but he knows that at our club any success will be attributed to cesc.he will always be in cesc’s shadow.if cesc leaves he will have more responsibility and the likelihood of him winning such awards will increase.if we were to sell cesc and sign mata i’d bet on nasri signing a new contract shortly after.

  28. W.A.T.H says:

Will be very interesting to see if your right on nasri KT………! what if we bought mata which i now doubt very much and sold nas n kept cesc..????

No Stan on here this morning yet, I hope the fella is alright……….

  29. Potter says:

Rico , hi, He probably has the first part at least, the problem is that the Catalan’s are working whichever way they can to bring the price down. It’s not just Rossell but also his family that are pressurising him especially his father who is very much in the social set of the Barca directors. This is all about their pride , they feel that we steal their youngsters and in all fairness we probably do. They want to salvage face and by getting Cesc at a knock down price they can say the same about ransom to their fans that ours want to hear from our club. We are at an impasse and both sets of directors should now be open to finding a resolution that suits both parties. Perhaps we should say that if they pay we would undertake not to keep stealing their youngsters until Spanish law has at least allowed Barca to offer them a contract. I feel this is more political than anything else and that Gazidis and Bartolemeu should work on it and get it done.

  30. rico says:

Potter – that’s their problem though, in the current market, Fabregas is worth at least 40 milion, it’s simple, they either pay it of forget it, or throw in one of their players who would be good for us, into the deal…

Re their younger players, maybe Barca should look at why they leave in the first place ratehr than throw toys out the pram and try and get Cesc on the cheap….

  31. K-TR7 says:

Wath i think thats the scenario we are facing.nasri loved it when cesc was absent the team looked up to him.he loved all the media attention then.you could see he enjoyed it.when cesc was back he was just another player in midfield.cesc was king again and he didn’t like it.nasri was widely reported to have agreed a new deal but he refused to sign.i think thats the reason why.he wants Arsenal to be ‘his team’.the only way thats going to happen is only when cesc departs.am also sure he doesn’t like seeing how pampered cesc is despite him wanting to leave.he wants the club to treat him that way too.he wants to be the new golden boy;the posterboy of Arsene’s next team after cesc’s.d up to him.he loved all the media attention then.you could see he enjoyed it.when cesc was back he was just another player in midfield.cesc was king again and he didn’t like it.nasri was widely reported to have agreed a new deal but he refused to sign.i think thats the reason why.he wants Arsenal to be ‘his team’.the only way thats going to happen is only when cesc departs.am also sure he doesn’t like seeing how pampered cesc is despite him wanting to leave.he wants the club to treat him that way too.he wants to be the new golden boy;the posterboy of Arsene’s next team after cesc’s.

  32. rico says:

Kt, i said similar yesterday, if Wenger gets a CH, LB, DM and Mata, he is showing he means the biz this season and Nasri will sign but to be honest, how long has he been with us, he’s hardly showing loyalty – if we all knew wenger would definately use the money to strenghten, Nasri can shove off….

  33. Cap67 says:

Just heard the swamp dwellers have bid £22m for mata, just hope it’s not true as bad enough losing him but to lose him to them would be unbearable

  34. Cap67 says:

Always happens we do all the donkey work with our network of scouts and then the others jump on the bandwagon with bigger offers. Wenger needs to be more decisive and offer the going rate to get the transfers through quicker. Anyway in arsene we trust and fingers crossed of course

  35. rico says:

Hi stan, no we haven’t and sadly, i don’t think we will now 🙁

C67, spot on, if we want him, call them, offer the right amount, fly over and seal the deal in the same day….

We need to stop faffing around….

  36. Potter says:

Re their younger players, maybe Barca should look at why they leave in the first place.

In Spanish law they cannot offer a contract until the player reaches 17 yrs old , whereas in England we can at 16. This means that we can put them on higher wages earlier than they can and why we are attractive to them and Barca can do little apart from making promises that they may or may not keep.

  37. rico says:

i didn’t know that potter, but surely if their players show great promise, it’s down to the club to reassure them of their future?

wouldn’ you rather play for the club of your birth place or leave your family and go abroad at 16 years old?

  38. Potter says:

I left home and lived near Barcelona when I was just a little older and I didn’t take my family and live in 5 star accommodation either.

We seem to offer the carrot of first team squad action almost immediately as opposed to waiting in line in La Masia.

  39. Potter says:

It’s easy to paint them as all the dark side but they have a point, we do seem to be attracted to their youth system . Maybe they should ban our scouts from parking their cars outside La Masia’s gates.

  40. rico says:

Anyone hear Radio 5 live today??

Suggestion is that Mata’s father was i’v’d and said Mata will be at The Emirates and he will be signing for us…

I’m going to check bbci to see if i can find out….

  41. rico says:

For sure they would Potter and who can blame them but Barca can’t moan really, if they won’t play them, let some other team 😉

I just don’t like the way they have gone about wanting to buy Cesc, when at the end of the day, they can if they will pay what he’s worth and they seem not to be prepared to do that…

  42. arsenal fan says:

hope lansbury gets his chance,if almunia ,denilson got so many lansbury also deserved it…..
that mata thing is slowly turning out like a rumour…..

  43. rico says:

agree af, also about the mata story, we’d have announced it by now if it’s true…. another false one i suspect..

  44. arsenal fan says:

will, that mata thing hope it turns out to be true,
but who knowns spuds have put a 22 million offer then it will be chavs paying 25 million or anyother club and he could be gone ,just as we lost that ricky guy……

  45. arsenalDK says:

I’m with rico re MAta. I don’t think we’ll get him. IF we could get some quality defensive signings, I would not mourn the loss of MAta.. I think we are in a good position up front…

  46. rico says:

They have to be the priority ADK, Mata would be nice though but we have left the door open to wide for another club to step in….

  47. arsenalDK says:

It honestly doesn’t surprise me rico. It’s like wenger is letting the other clubs snap up the players on purpose, just so that we will all think that he at least tried…

  48. rico says:

    Nor me adk

but we won’t be fooled as easily will we, he has tried that old chesnut for the last 5/6 seasons – now is time for him to back up yesterdays works about doing buisness in the window sooner rather than later…..

  49. rico says:

He did Potter and whats he done so far? Taken two months to sign Gervinho and Jenkinson….. Hardly busy eh…

You spotted Mata at The Emirates yet 😉

  50. allezkev says:

Miyaichi not playing today i guess. I do hope we get a work permit for that lads because he’s gonna be the dogs rollox.

  51. rico says:

    Hi AK, how’s you??

She’s the same, leg up in plaster and nipping around on her frame 😉 Thanks, one week down, five to go 😉

There is a link, i saw it somewhere earlier but cant remember where 🙁

  52. allezkev says:

Hope to go and see the Stiffs at Dover Athletic this Weds’, then i can see how Lansbury is performing.

  53. allezkev says:

Yeah Rico, i didn’t realise she’d broken some bones, must have been one hell of a fall… bloody carrots eh 🙂 ????

  54. rico says:

Lucky you AK, i’m hoping after this weekend he’s in the squad training hard to face Benfica 🙂

  55. rico says:

She never did get to eat them 😉 Broken Fibia just where the leg joins the ankle….. I think i’m going to grow some carrots kev, could do with a rest 😉 😉

  56. allezkev says:

Yeah Rico, that would be great, even if he got a run from the bench.
But has Aw said what he’s said just to get him to sign a new deal???? 🙁

  57. rico says:

Its rubbish Will, like a friend pointed out to me, why would they offer 22m when his get out clause is much less??

  58. allezkev says:

I’ve really missed all the banter. When i got the chance, i had a peek using my phone, but as quick as i left a comment i was off again.
But there was some really good posts and some great discussions.
it’s good to be back on board, especially as it’s beginning to feel like the footie is back in earnest.

  59. allezkev says:

Will, it’s those Press tossers getting us at it again. I despise the Press/Media, all they do is shit-stir, causing fans to turn against each other etc.

  60. moses says:

I think mata saga wil never gonna happen and this bcos Arsenal wil never gonna spend 20 million and more to land player like mata, we all know mata is very morden and fantastic tactinical vision, who wil fit ever so quickly to the way arsenal want him to play and i would love to see him in the pitch with our new striker combaine together, but the problem with arsenal board are all greedies, special wenger, i dont think they real care about their fans and all ther care is wht going in their pockets, how many time have we rised our voiced concern about our defenders and all they do is bought very low class producters defenders like Squillaci and all those crape, why cant he goes there and find one of two decent defenders like samba and cahill and see if we cant win trophy this season, we all know our side do play the best foot in English premier and no any side there will play the way arsenal play as simply is tht but is we wont shake our pockets and buy these plys this club wil never gonna win anything.

  61. arsenalDK says:

I just don’t understand.. why all the spin? WHy can’t he be honest about whether he has cash to spend, and if he will be buying or not.. he hasn’t exactly gotten more popular this way… I used to be hard core AKB, but not anymore.. I appreciate what he has done for the club, but if we don’t win anything soon, he should go..

  62. rico says:

They have to write about something kev and good job they do or the football blogs would have no stories 😉

ADK – i don’t think you are the only ex akb to change his views, i’m not anti-wenger so much, just anti the stories, fibs and his constant empty words and promises…

If we knew the truth, fans would understand a lot more…

  63. rico says:

    Arsenal team:

Fabianski, Jenkinson, Koscielny, Djourou, Traore, Frimpong, Wilshere, Nasri, Gervinho, Arshavin, Van Persie.

Subs: Sagna, Vela, Ramsey, Song, Squillaci, Mannone, Eboue, Gibbs, Chamakh, Afobe, Bartley.

    No Lansbury then….. 🙁

  64. rico says:

hi moses, mata, samba and cahill would be three perfect signings, can’t see us getting any of them now….

  65. rico says:

Nasri looks happy enough…. He ‘s having a laugh about with AA…

    Fabregas is with the team…

  66. rico says:

What was the point of that…..

two ch’s go up for the corner and we take a short one and lose it….

  67. rico says:

Me neither Will, Nasri and AA need to get involved first…

Same old ball over the top of the defence nearly caught us out again….

  68. allezkev says:

    I like Jenkinson, seems a good signing….
Frimpong has done quite well, i think he’s style will suit the EPL’s more agricultural style like a hand in a glove.
But the ref…… We’ve got another 9 months of dopes like him!

  69. arsenal fan says:

    good 1st half,
    really impressed by jenkinson,
however i think our problem is playing a highline and we get caught out,we were lucky that boca player had that 1 on 1 and he missed…

  70. allezkev says:

Wow, i’d forgotten about the Cricket Rico. That’s good. Keep India’s lead down to 60 or 70, get last bowl on this wicket. If Trott, Cook and Morgan make up for their first innings knocks then we could see a 2-0 lead by Monday… 🙂

  71. rico says:

kev, i like the look of jenkinso too, big strong and pretty quick, has a good cross on him too….

af, same old mistakes from the defence – we def need a leader in there and a brit imho….

Trott is injured kev, may not bat 🙁

  72. rico says:

What a goal, great play by Vela and a stunning strike by Ramsey – see that is why we should shoot on sight…..

  73. rico says:

We have taken more shots on goal from distance in this game than we did all last season 😉

wasn’t that play him or sell him Will? Last season he was low on confidence as wenger never played him, even when we had no strikers he preferred to play AA up front…. crazy decision…

  74. rico says:

He has a good chip on him Will but most instinctive, i’m not convinced but, doesn’t mean i’m right….

  75. allezkev says:

Yeah Rico, i thought that about the shooting. Wonder if the influence of Cesc is on the wane?
    What’s the problem with Trott???

  76. rico says:

    Dislocated shoulder kev….

You could be right about Cesc, too many times we play the game around him, play as a team and we’ll do better….

bummer, 2-1 and who’s to blame for that one Squilli, come on Arsene it’s as clear as the nose on your face, Squilli is dreadful, get rid asap…..

  77. ArsenalDK says:

    Great! 2-2 🙁

Our Whole backline needs a change, throw everyone out except Vermaelen and Sagna.

    bye bye top 4 finish…

  78. arsenal fan says:

    shish…not learnt a thing…….
if wenger doesnt get a cb hes gonna be in big trouble……

  79. rico says:

    Exactly kev…..

Exciting Will, there is nothing exciting about see two defenders make shocking errors to give away a 2-0 lead…

Talk about ‘Let’s give the papers more evidence to slate us’ Dreadful….

  80. rico says:

af, spot on – the fans at the ems booed both goals, and the season hasn’t even started….

    Boca aren’t even that good……

  81. rico says:

Thank goodness Will, I’m sat here livid with this display in the second half….

I know it’s only the Ems Cup but its about building confidence and winning now – two weeks to the beginning of the season and we are still leaking soft goals….

  82. arsenal fan says:

this is the time when the likes of manu are so good or even chavs especially manure they seem to have a plan b,c,d even if it is pre season, but we are stuck on plan a only we dont have any other plan to throw at them……

  83. allezkev says:

On the plus side… Frimpong, Gervinho, Wilshere, Ramsey, Jenkinson and RVP.
But it’s the ‘Usual Suspects’…. Everyone can see it…
    Well, almost everyone…!

  84. allezkev says:

Maybe the defensive balls-ups are better being highlighted now, than at St James’ Park in a couple of weeks.
Wenger cannot hide behind a clean sheet. So maybe a couple of Red Bull goals via cock-ups tomorrow are just the nudge old smarty-pants needs to push him shouting and screaming into the transfer market for a centre-half..?

  85. rico says:

Nurse duties for me guys, if anyone wants to write up their thoughts on that game, please feel free to email it 🙂

    Be back about 8.30 🙂

  86. W.A.T.H says:

    Defence = Shambles
    Wenger = Blind

Whats new…? cant expect a better defence when we don’t buy decent defenders.

  87. coadsi says:

same crap different season. Rico i told u from last season that chamack was rubbish, happy to know you are finally seeing that. until things change i will same the same defense is our problem and until we solve it we are going nowhere. when ah-sen talk crap about we are an offensive team that says it all for me. but things will never change because as usual ah-sen is correct while everyone else is wrong

  88. Graham Waller says:

Lansbury will leave Arsenal this year… permanent or loan. There are too many options that are now in front of him to allow hime to play enough game time to develop further.

The defence was ok in the first half, 5 changes made for a shabby second Geronimo was always in a position to go forward even Arshaven was moveing quicker than he did all last season, Jenkinson was brilliant in the first half and frimpong as well but the five changes killed us and when the sixth came on we died a death, geronimo and jenkinson were the stars for me

  90. stevepalmer1 says:

One thing i did notice Will but in the first half everytimr Gervinho went forward players were chaseing to get in the box when he went off we were lacking in that department

  91. stevepalmer1 says:

I know this is a fun competition where by teams can make many substitutes and give the manager a chance to try certain players out, but i would have thought that if your in it you would also want to win it as well, surely he knows that to many changes kills off a game, if he must make changes at least space them out, allowing the game to flow and players to work themselves in, to much too soon has shown many times that its a recipe for disaster

  92. Will says:

I agree but maybe he wqanted to give certain players 45 minutes.

I was very impressed with Frimpong.

  93. stevepalmer1 says:

When they started Will, they gelled very well, i was impressed with the chaseing after the ball and harrying the opposition till they got the ball, in the second half the cohesion dissapeared and so did the chaseing. I was just begining to think we had cracked it, Fabianski even looked calm when he saw the ball although not to much of it, and Manone i thought started pretty good with good clearances, i wouldn’t put any blame on him at all for the goals just shoddy defending

  94. stevepalmer1 says:

It may be a bit sooner than that Will, and in all honesty i believe they would deal with it pretty well, must mention Trayory thought he did well a bit to forward for me at times though. I wouldnt mind seeing Jenkinson and Bartly together, i don’t suppose i will, but you never know

  95. Will says:

I don’t think Traore was that impressive today but JEnkinson was and I was happy to see someone who’s first thought was cross.

  96. stevepalmer1 says:

Certainly looks good for the future, and there getting better, we need a couple at the back desperatly i only hope before the season starts JD Squilly worries me big time

  97. MistaKen says:

Lansbury will show miles more passion and commitment than Denilson, Diaby, Nasri and Arshavin combined. The type of passion and commitment of the invincibles.

  98. stevepalmer1 says:

Rico, your our leader, we all think its your finest hour, this is what you have been waiting for. exciting prospects with a chance of more on the way and still without a loss, its got your handwriting all over it

  99. MistaKen says:

I have something positive to say. At least we didn’t throw away a 4 goal lead in 20 minutes

  100. stevepalmer1 says:

Do it in your usual style and we’ll love it, can’t beat a womans touch, so i’m told.

  101. rico says:

MistaKen, I’m with you on that, a real Gooner playing for Arsenal, just what we don’t have enough of…..

  102. stevepalmer1 says:

Mis K you must have enjoyed the first half, i was feeling quite happy with that, chaseing after the ball untill we got it and releasing Geronimo and forwards rushing to get in the box, and you didn’t see any merits in that.

  103. stevepalmer1 says:

I still se Lansbury as a may be i don’t think i can comment on him till i see a bit more, i saw him at the lane and he scored but i must admit i hadn’t realy seen that much of him, the way a lot of supporters are talking about him, i think i must have missed a few games, but if you lot think he’s got what it takes i will hold back till i have seen a bit more.

  104. rico says:

MK – I think he’s the modern day Ray Parlour who could do a really good job for us, he’s the hustler and bustler we need, and in time he could be darn good….

The first half was ok but we still got caught with the ball over the defence…..

  105. rico says:

I’m off to write something for tomorrow – it won’t be up until later again, got things to do in the morning….

Have a good night all, til tomorrow…. 🙂

    Night all…

  106. stevepalmer1 says:

I must admit i also feel a bit weary, 3 cans of Scoll 9% has buggered me you all have a good night But hey hey be carefull out there, nte all.

  107. Doc Brody says:

Well I know you are all in bed, but just got say same old same old today…. Some teams always seem to figure out a way to win or dig out a draw. Others, like Arsenal, seem to find a way to lose or give up a lead for a draw. Frustrating.

    Night all.

  108. Adam says:

Arsene Wenger has become scarily weird. What other manager would constantly portray his own club as paupers? What other manager would fail to address our pressing needs? Two weeks before the season starts and two players who don’t want to be at the club are going to end up as the main excuses why Wenger has sleep- walked through another transfer window. Perhaps he will make the signings everyone knows we need, who knows? He said he sees himself as a steely- eyed poker player. I am beginning to see him as a Russian Roulette player. For me he is paid £6 million a year to win games. Let him do that and forget trying to convince the people like me who stump up thousands of pounds a year that we exist on sweat and are a poor little club competing with the big, bad money men. If he doesn’t like the way things are, then let someone else have a go. Djourou and Squillacci? Do me a favor. What further proof does anyone need that this pairing is useless? If we have the start many of us expect then things are going to get very hot for him, very quickly. I don’t think the fans will stand it because they see he has the finances this year, because he told us he did. And if he fails again he will deserve every bit of the shit that will fall on his head.I used to be a huge fan but, as I said, he is scarily weird now.

  109. W.A.T.H says:

Evenin Adam……. Seems he’s paid 6mil a yr to finish fourth and on todays showing not a chance…! Sorrt Steve can’t see what the future holds mate when the present is being papered over…! 2nd hald was awful and we cant defend simple as that how the fuck can we go into a premier league season with the same defence as last season..? mind boggling really. I’m holding fire til Sep 1st but things really aint looking good…! Wenger knew in May the defence was shit and its still shit……! Has he really become so delusional..? I cant believe such an educated man can be so stubborn and such an idiot… and yes on 6mil a year I can indeed call him an idiot just like I am for yet again renewing my season tkts cos come what may bottom line is before all the AKB’s jump up and down I support Arsenal FC and always will, not wenger nor his pampered kids who sulk cos they cant go home to barca…. AFC will be around long after he’s gone and long after I’m gone…!

  110. W.A.T.H says:

We have the basis of a really good team it’s a shame wenger is to scared to buy what we’re lacking…! Time for the excuses to stop..!

  111. allezkev says:

There’s still 31 days to go before the Window shuts Wath.
Today is just a friendly. If we lose to Red Bulls and Benfica, but take 3 pts from Newcastle, i will settle for that mate.
I thought there was a lot of plus’s from todays [yesterdays] game.
Yep, i know the defence was creaking again, but i liked Jenkinson, Traore did ok and we have Vermaelen to come back.
I don’t know what the fcuk has happened to Djourou? When he got into the team last season, he looked ok, and then his game went down the toilet in those final games of the season. But in all honesty so did most of the rest of the team.
To me, the common denominator in most of our defensive nightmares usually have Squillaci in the vicinity. He’d fcuk the head of any back-four partner.

  112. allezkev says:

I really hope that Wenger gives Bartley a start tomorrow [today].
If he doesn’t, then i will be seriously pissed off.
Frimpong impressed me, nobody knocked him off of the ball, he’s like the classic brick-shithouse midfielder, but he can pass and has great technique.
Good to see the players having a pot-shot and Jenkinson put in some sweet first time crosses, right into the danger area. Once the others get used to him, they will begin to anticipate his crosses and look for them. I can see him getting a lot of time on the pitch this season, even if it’s from the bench.
I thought Koscielny looked quite good in the 1st 45. He reads the game well and did some usefull sweeping up around Djourou.

  113. allezkev says:

It’s such a bloody shame that the club hasn’t sorted out Miyaichi’s work-permit, i would have loved to have seen him and Gervinho bombing down the flanks at the same time…
    Brown shorts for Boca maybe???

I know that Wenger has two games in two days and needs to rotate his squad and save his players from fatigue related injury, but my heart sank when Eboue came on. That bloke brings absolutely nothing to the party, we may as well play with 10 men.
Wenger would be better giving a run-out to Afobe, or even giving Aneke or Boateng 20 minutes on the pitch with the 1st team.
Why is Wenger so blinkered with certain players???
He just opens himself up to criticism he can so easily avoid..!

  114. allezkev says:

    And where is our centre-forward???
12 months ago Arsenal had this centre-forward who was good with his bonce and scored quite a few important goals.

Up till Christmas he did a great job ‘leading the line’… but he has simply disappeared. It’s a complete mystery???

Now we have this cart-horse masquerading as a striker who i thought was called Maroune Chamakh.

Has he been kidnapped, and a double been put in his place???

    Answers on a postcard to:

    Mr Wath
    21 Ball Pond Road
    N16…… 😀

  115. allezkev says:

Blimey, i’ve just seen this polar bear, and it’s talking to itself, so i’m offski,
    Goodnight Gooners… 😉

  116. Doc Brody says:

Forget about the August 31st deadline… It’s already too late. We needed to bring in good defenders and any other signings early enough to participate in preseason training and games. Aside from integrating with the team, they need time to find housing and get settled in London. It’s all too late for that.

  117. allezkev says:

So you think that re-locating from Blackburn or Bolton or even Liverpool is too late now Doc??? are you sure? 🙂

  118. Doc Brody says:

Yes. Whether from a foreign land or the other side of town it’s too late. It won’t be as bad for a domestic player, particularly if housing doesn’t need to be worked out, but there is also the small matter of getting familiar with how your teammates play. Bonding with the team. Getting sorted in the locker room and on the training pitch. It takes time, and given Arsenal’s tough first month schedule, it’s something that should have happened weeks ago… preferably even before the Asia tour. The more pre season games the new players (if there are any) have with the team, the better.

  119. allezkev says:

Not sure i can agree with ya Doc…
Because that’s like saying that if Wenger had signed Samba last January, that he [Samba] wouldn’t have had any effect on the way they collapsed post-Carling Cup Final.
That’s like saying it’s never worth making a signing in the January Window.
    Or have i misunderstood? 🙂

  120. tampaGunner says:

come home to find the arsenal has drew boca jr 2-2 but the most disturbing part is they gave up a 2-0 lead … please not another repeat of last year, wenger sign two center backs and employ a defense coach

  121. Doc Brody says:

Misunderstood a bit. I’m not saying we shouldn’t sign anyone at this point. What I’m saying is that it would have been far far better if we had signed our targets earlier to give them time to adjust. I was reacting to comments from others (and Wenger) that we have until August 31st. There should have been a greater sense of urgency than that. At this point it’s too late to expect any new signings to hit the ground running at the start of the season (when our schedule is so tough).

As far as January transfers go, I actually do think they are not “worth” it quite often as they can be pricey acts of desperation. But again, something is better than nothing when you really need it. Had we signed Samba, I expect he would have been settled enough by March and thus could have had a huge positive impact.

And of course we’ve all seen many instances where a new signing makes an immediate impact, so I’m still hopefull, but more often it takes time *cough* (Torres).

Arsenal is in a desperate situation in defense and must act quickly to maximize the odds that new players will contribute early in the season.

  122. Subhash says:

I think Wenger will sign Mata because the “Nasri” situation is quite complicated. i feel Nasri will run out his contract and join Man-City and of course the Fabregas-Barcelona love story has been going around for ages.

  123. The BearMan says:

It appears that Aresnal and Arsene had no intentions of bringing in new defenders but was hoping that his comrade Squallaci would have done a job to convince the fans that he could be trusted in that defensive role. But their is something wrong with is DNA, which is wired to flop. His first game for Arsenal in the reserves clearly vilify that.

Wenger’s major objective like my dear Mrs. Bear is to prove that he maintain the title of Mr. Prudent, by spending the least of all the Premiership Managers. Someone needs to remind him the race is not about he/they that finish at the top by January, but finishing the entire season with plenty left in the tank.

It is not about inviting players to come on trial and hope they sign for the opposition, but having a squad that can compete at the highest level and win.

  124. Adam says:

Nasri cannot be allowed to run down his contract. Simple as that. If Wenger wanted to do that and Kroenke went along with it I would be amazed. The club would be essentially paying a player who we all know will make zero effort, his wages plus £20 million for a year. That is so dumb it doesn’t make any sense. Whe would the money come from for his replacement next year. Another season ticket rise? But Wenger is so obsessed with people perceiving Arsenal as a small club if they loose Cesc and Nasri in one year I think he could try it just to make a point. Although what point it will make to Arsenal fans, who are the people who really matter I don’t know. He speaks as if all this has just dropped on him. He should have had this sorted months ago.

  125. W.A.T.H says:

Same old rhetoric Adam and as you say anyone who think keeping nasri to lose out on a 20mil transfer fee just because wenger is stubborn makes no sense what so ever, as I said weeks ago its not about who you lose its about who you replace them with…!
