Vidal move agreed. Could a second medical be booked for next week??

Morning all.

Seems the official website are struggling as much as we writers are in the Arsenal blog world.

‘Vote for the best headed goal’? What’s that all about eh?

One things for sure I thought, Thierry Henry won’t be up then among the voting options as he didn’t do heading much did he? He sure made up for it with his feet though.

Well shiver me old timbers, how wrong was I?

Henry’s header against Utd is one if the options, as is David Platts v Utd (I remember that well), Bendtners against the Toots, Giroud v Newcastle and Merts against the Toots make up the rest. Then there is the ‘other’ option.

So which is your favourite headed goal? One of those listed or do you have a different one in your mind?

In fact let’s go one step further, what’s your favourite ever Arsenal goal?

There’s been a few hasn’t there, probably far too many to mention. The goal Dennis scored against Newcastle remains of my favourites, as does Henry’s little chip and shot against Utd to take all the points. The ‘team’ goal which Jack Wilshere was another goodie but there’s many more….

At the other end of the pitch there’s been a few good saves too, the one from David Seaman against Sheffield Utd in the FA Cup semi-final sticks is hard to beat imo. To this day I still don’t know how he saved the header from Paul Peschisolido but that’s what a top class keeper will do.

David Ospina did just that last night for Columbia. Nothing Argentina tried beat him, not even the great Messi could find the back of the net during regular time. Sadly for him and the rest of his team-mates, the penalty shoot-out went to Argentina.

Ospina is expected to be the goal-keeper to make way for the arrival of Petr Cech but on last nights showing, perhaps Arsene Wenger will have a re-think.

Talking of Cech, he was reportedly at the club yesterday undergoing his medical, a medical which by all accounts had been scheduled for this coming week. There’s been no confirmation of this by Arsenal or Chelsea but I wonder why it was brought forward. Could it be that another player is heading in for a medical next week and then we hear that both players have been signed? I know Morgan Schneiderlin is heavily tipped to join Man Utd but after the player declared his future will be sorted over the next few days, maybe Arsene Wenger has other ideas.

All just guess work, but in football, just because the papers/sky bet or anyone else likes to think they know what’s happening during a transfer window, not always do they get it right do they.

I’d be chuffed to bits if Schneiderlin and Cech arrive this summer but I’d be even more chuffed if Reus joined them.

In other gossip, Spanish newspaper Marca have published an article which suggests Arturo Vidal has agreed a deal to join a top European club and that club will be confirmed as soon as the Copa America Cup finishes. We are one of the clubs linked to him but considering Marca have printed the story, logic would suggest he’s heading to Spain.

Finally, good luck to the England Women who face Canada in the World Cup during the early hours of Sunday morning.

That’s it for Saturday, have a great day……

    Thanks Scott.

It really is tough right now. Rumours are boring and repetitive, nothing much going on that’s real and apart from Cech, what’s there to talk about… 🙁

  2. rico says:

Hi Agag, he sure would but I can’t see the club spending that kind of money on a guy his age…

Got to nip out for a bit so catch up later…

  3. Induct says:

Can’t someone find me the link to watch those saves by Seaman and Ospina? I will be much grateful

  4. andrewh1313 says:

Morning rico, we need some real news for you to get your teeth into, nice you get something out every day though!

hi agag, hows life out there? I’d take Vidal or Schneid but fear neither.

  5. Malaga gooner says:

    Morning Rico and all.
My Best headed goal was franks goal against the mancs in 79

Good post considering there’s sweet F-A to talk about

  6. agirlagunner says:

rico, Vidal would be exactly what we need… A bit more steel would not go amiss, would it? Imagine all those yellows though!! 😉

Hiya, andrew! All is well here. How are yous, sir?

  7. bondex says:

Morning all, maybe you should be working withthe AFC website they struggle so much to give any meaningful news.. Great post.. If we get Vital and Cech, I don’t see how we won’t be challenging for the title at the end of next season…I had a dream we won something really big.

  8. joe says:

I’d be happy with Cech and Wenger can sought out the other keepers who stays who goes.
Hi Agag from a nice sunny day in Dublin.
I am probably wrong but I can’t see us spending over 20m when we have perfectly good Coq maybe cheap back up.

  9. Dan says:

Best headed goal of all time… Andy Linigham, FA Cup Final 1993… 120th minute… All about timing!

  10. Micko says:

Malaga’s probably nailed it on the head, excuse the pun ! Chippy was always putting it on a plate for Frank !

Best own goals next week, I’m getting in there early, Lee Dixon, Coventry 91.

Morgan or Vidal, we can’t have both but either would be nice, neither more likely.

  11. eduardo says:

some are suggesting that Cech will be the one to announce the move, on his official site, so that he can have a goodbye/thank you message to chelsea/fans

  12. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Afternoon Lovelies and Hunkies.

Ollie would beg to differ on the best header. He acknowledges the fact that many headed goals are spectacular, however, he feels that his best header was scored in a hotel room. where no one saw it.

    lol

I have seen many headed goals which were great. My greatest favourite was not scored by an AFC player but by Ronaldo. I forgot against whom but the way he rose above everyone else and connected with a corner was magnificent.

My favourite headed AFC goal was scored by none other than TH14. Eboue supplied the cross and TH thumped the ball past VDS in the manure goal in added time. I remember it well…..my friends murdered me at H/T for being 0-1 down. I did not say anything but at the final whistle I shouted…………Full time score …..AFC 2 Shiture 1

My all time favourite goal??? there are so many wonders. its damn difficult. you choose one, there is another equally impressive. for sheer spectacularity there is the DB10 vs NUFC. And as you said Rico, the flick and volley from TH14 against manure. then there are the Ray Parlour vs Chavs in FAcup final, Sanches vs Villa in Facup final. But the goal which had me roaring was none other than the one scored by Mr Arsenal himself……TA06 vs Everton.

My top three…………TA06 vs Everton; then Thomas vs Dippers (1989) and 3rd Rocastle goal vs the spuds. none of them spectacularly beautiful but of great importance

Good post boss. you had us pondering on something and succeeded.

  13. rico says:

    That makes sense eduardo…

Jm, at least he got one thing right then..

Thanks Devil, I really like the TH one and both from Freddie and Parlour in the FA Cup final were pretty special…

Tony Adams goal was a superb finish too, and quite fitting…

We’ve been fortunate to have witnessed so many top class goals scored by Arsenal…

Fingers crossed there are many many more to come…

  14. allezkev says:

Only one goal for me, that’s Wembley 1971.

    Charlie George…

Closely followed by John Radford at Anfield 72/73.
And Liam Brady at The Slum, 1978…

I saw them all, and all away from Highbury.

    Afternoon All

  15. Micko says:

Maybe it’s not as open and closed as I thought rico !

C’mon wath, put us out of our misery, did you or did you not start the Great Fire of London.

  16. Hell Raising Devil says:

Charlie George ‘s goal was a screamer as well Kev.

we are so fortunate. as I said…..make a choice and an even better one crops up.

I also like the goal against the spuds by TH14 when he dribbled past the whole scum team.

    beautiful goals.

Pa got the letter mate. he has enjoyed it a lot, I as well, and soon he will answer you.

  17. Hell Raising Devil says:

Last I heard was that the great London Fire was started by an old man who farted near a small fire and the gas which came out put the curtains on fire.

Its simple to know really. Just check whether Wath eats beans on a daily basis. the answer will fall in its place.

  18. allezkev says:

As for headed goals, David Platts against the Mancs in 1997/98 is hard to beat.

    George Graham’s against Stoke,
    FACup replay 1971 or 1972?

  19. allezkev says:

Yeah Coach, Thierry, Wrighty, Bergkamp, Ljungbergs at Cardiff, Parlour against Valencia and at Cardiff, Pires at Anfield when he lobbed the keeper, Rocastle at Villa Park and Anfield in the League Cup, Charlie Nicholas at the Slum – League Cup, Willie Young at Wrexham, Alan Sunderland, FACup replay at Highbury, blimey there’s been so many…

  20. allezkev says:

Yeah Mick, what a player he could have been, but for the injuries that fecked up his knees…

I remember seeing him coming thru the Youths and Stiffs…
Him and Brian McDermott, another player who was totally mismanaged by Terry Neill…

  21. eduardo says:

some swansea blogs are saying arsenal are in for defensive midfielder Ki Sung Yueng, who was Swansea’s player of the year last season

  22. Geziah says:

    Good day fellow Gooners.

Just seen that Lucas Silva of Real Madrid is available for loan. What do think of a loan move for him with the option to buy? The few games I’ve seen him play for Real he has done well and can really pick a pass plus he shields the back 4. Not the most aggressive but a more elegant type of DM.

  23. Carl Shadbolt says:

I was calling for a New Keeper and then Cech turns up ! I was calling for a defensive midfielder and Vidal has turned up. I also call for a Winger Reus is my first choice and think it may happen as we are crying out for a Winger now Walcott is going up top !! Reus can play anywhere along the Front line and is class !!
I never thought Vidal i was more of the thinking Carvalho of Porto. As he is young and will be good competition for Coqulein but if Vidal comes i won’t mind but he will expect more starts than Coqulien !!
Cech well where do i start, Best singing for ages in my eyes we haven’t had a Keeper of his stature since Lehmann and look what a team we had then before him Seaman and look at the team we had then…. Behind every good team is a Quality Keeper iand in Cech we have the Rock that every good team is built !! Arsenal for all their good football have been caught time and time again by silly Keeper mistakes ( Errors of youth i call it ) but not needed if you are trying for titles !!
All in all if these signing come off then wow !! I will defo be excited for next season !!

  24. rico says:

    Welcome Carl

Sadly, the only one looking likely to sign for us right now is Cech. If we get the other two, then yes, what a great TW it would have been…

  25. Hell Raising Devil says:

Sorry to barge in on this Rico……but Geziah has a point on Lucas Silva. First of all he would not threaten Le Coq and destabilise him. second he is unkown….so he can be bought relatively on a low budget. Third he is the typical AW signing….Koscielny/Gabriel type of signing. He is a good player and will complement our passing game plus shield the back four. Yes he is a technical DM.

What I do not agree with Geziah is the loan move. I would prefer to buy him outright. and no added clauses or whatever.

Geziah…..Vidal is not a DM by trade. he is more of an aggressive B2B midfielder.

Lucas Silva fits the bill. Oh……aaahhhhh…..he is 6 ft tall. 😛

  26. Malaga gooner says:

Rico I know you don’t do rumours on here but a mate of mine im spain says its between us and Barcelona for vidal

  27. Geziah says:

No problem Devil. The only reason why I was thinking loan with an option to buy is if he doesn’t work out.

Rico in terms of experience yes it is important to have in the team but it’s not important in every position. Look at how Bellerin has done at RB. Would you rather the more experienced Debuchy to start ahead of him? And also Coq who we all prefer to Flamini or Arteta. Maybe some youthful exuberance is needed.

I still don’t entirely rule out Jack Wilshere at that deep pivot role. MOTM for England when he’s played there just need two box to box midfielders in front of him. Like Pirlo has Vidal and Pogba for Juve or Marchisio and even De Rossi for Italy.

  28. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Evening to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Rico – A great article, a pleasant change of pace from the transfer hyperbole of the commercial media.

As for favourite Arsenal goal – that would have to be Dennis Bergkamp vs. The Toon. The look of confusion and surprise on the Newcastle player’s face as Dennis passed the ball on one side of him and Dennis ran past on the other to calmly pickup his own pass and score. Truly a classic.

By the way I and my younger son’s family will be cheering for the Canuck Ladies – of course! There are a lot of English expats here who aren’t sure who they should/will be cheering for.

  29. rico says:

    Mg, I reckon it’s Barca..

Geziah – I know how good Bellerin has been last season but I just think in key positions it’s wise to have experience. The spine of the team imo needs to be top quality and experienced but that’s just my opinion.

  30. rico says:

    Evening Cg, thank you..

I shall of course be cheering for England, well whilst snoring… 😉

That Dennis goal was simply awesome, who else could have done something like that…

  31. Hell Raising Devil says:

My favourite defender and who I would like AW to sign is Darmian of Torino. RB,LB,CB. Can play all three positions.

  32. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – Understandable, but I’m not sure the Three Lionesses will benefit from your somnambulant support.

  33. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – Where’s that “…some chicken, some neck…” English spirit that Winston Churchill refered to in his famous speech. If the Three Lionesses had feathers you’d be there for them. LOL

  34. Bob John says:

Hi all. I’ve just come to the party. Agree with Potters choice of headed goals and would add Stapleton in the cup away to Forest in 1979, They hadn’t lost at home for over 50 gsmes and battered us all game until we got a late free kick. Brady to Stapleton game over. Also diving header by Paul Davis at the end of a sweeping move at home to Charlton in the 89 run in.

  35. Joe says:

How about Alan Smiths goal against Liverpool in 1989 followed by Michael Thomas’s goal later on it’s the only time I ever levitated across my sitting room. 😉

  36. Micko says:

Well done rico, it was great tapping into everyone’s memories today, really enjoyed it.

Man up Joe, we all know Smudger never got a touch on the ball, the Arse just got lucky on the nite !

  37. Joe says:

It did Micko it deflected off a bead of sweat on he’s forehead I saw it and that’s how I remember it.

  38. Okello says:

I love Arsenal wish we win trophy next season. However I don’t like the Arsenal transfer policy of dragging feet during transfer window. Just do the business quickly and wrap up the deal and move on.

  39. rico says:

Thanks Micko, I’ll try and do just that again today.. 😉

Morning all, welcome to those who joined overnight, sorry you were stuck in moderation…

Okello – a DM/HM would be the priority if it was down to me….

  40. Drake says:

Rico it looks like we have signed vidal but will have to wait for it to be confirmed, if true then arsenal are the best at hiding their transfer dealings.another good news is that then lyon striker could be on a move

  41. allezkev says:

    Morning All.

    Morning Rico.

Okello, it’s the media who wind us up and agents of course…

95% of what you read is pure speculation, misinformation and lies.
The club can’t refute every lie that is in the media.
In fact I think they let these stories run to cover up their real intentions…
ManCity & Chelsea haven’t done any/much business yet, so it’s not only Arsenal…

  42. allezkev says:

Next week, things will start moving Okello, contracts expire on July 1st so players will start to move and squads are gradually reporting for pre-season training, although I’m not sure that there’s a Close Season anymore…

  43. allezkev says:

    I wish he was Rico… 😀

Not sure that we were ever seriously in for him.

The Swansea player looks more like an Arsene signing.
Not least the fact that Swansea play a very technical game like Arsenal, so he would fit in easily…

  44. rico says:

Vidal is ours Kev, a Chilean reporter has confirmed it… 😉

You have a point re the Swansea guy, rather Vidal though as I’m sure you would…

    New post up now..
