Vela to get tough, Owen wants move and Wenger’s exceptional'….

We all know Carlos Vela is going out on loan this month and Owen Coyle has him sitting at the top of his wanted list. This could be a great move for all involved, Coyle is a great young British manager on a shoestring budget but his Bolton side sit 7th in the Premier League. They are there for a reason too, Coyle has got his side playing football, yes a bit of toughness in there but he’s moved them well away from the days of Fat Sam.

I hope Vela goes there, reaps the same rewards that Jack Wilshere did and comes back with the same strength and confidence our little fella did after his loan. I would really hate to see Vela go off abroad, he needs to be toughening up and getting used to the English game, not the mamby pamby Euro football..

So the transfer window is open but no doubt Wengers cheque book is closed, he makes me laugh really. He’s gone from saying he won’t buy anyone, he will if we lose a player, to, he will if there is an exceptional opportunity’

What exactly does that mean? Blowed if I know but this is what he said on Friday:

I haven’t ruled out signings, if I have an outstanding opportunity, maybe I will take it. I do not want to sit here and say we won’t, then people can come back and say ‘but you said you wouldn’t sign anyone. There’s still a big chance we won’t sign anyone because it’s difficult to find better players than what we have, but if there’s an exceptional opportunity, you never know.

What about the times he has said he will then doesn’t? He should be more worried about that, anyway, let’s hope an ‘exceptional opportunity’ and he stands 6’ 6” high in the centre of defence….

Talking of which, those rumours about Per Meretsacker are doing the rounds yet again. Now I’m pretty sure that every Arsenal fan would love to see such a towering figure in our defence, surely this is just old news? Or could he be the exception Wenger is referring to? If it is, I just hope he does start with us the same way he started his footballing career. An own goal, a broken nose all with weeks but now he’s classed as hot property – time will only tell if he will ever become ours. Suggestion is that the dippers want him too and out to get him – well, if it’s down to the player, I think we know which club is more attractive right now…. Sorry Roy!!

Finally, Lee Bowyer is being investigated by the FA for the stamp on Sagna, good, lets hope they throw the bloomin book at him, when of course the FA finally get back in the office – suggestion this morning is he could be banned for six games. Good!

That’s about it for today, have a good one…

“Owen Coyle is a great young British manager…(who) has got his side playing football…”.
I saw something the other day saying they have gained the most yellow cards and fouls for the year 2010. Just because the media spout this “young British manager” rubbish interminably, doesn’t mean we have to repeat it slavishly, much less believe it. They still play exactly the same way as they did under Allardyce. It’s just that Coyle smiles more and goes on chummy Sky football shows with his mates…..

haha heard about Hleb actually hilarious!!! btw I swear isnt this just a clone copy of the Le Grove Blog layout lol

    Morning rico nice post,
You was asking why Wenger comes out with different statements about is he or is he not going to buy in the window, i believe he says this because he has players in mind or perhaps a deal is being negotiated and he doesnt want a lot of press building up the price, also with the squad we have to bring a player in would almost certainly mean somebody going , and those players are aware that it could be them so they start looking for possible new homes. We know whats needed to shore the side up and he must know the same. Speaking out in the last window that he wanted a keeper bumped the price up which resulted in us missing a new keeper but put Wenger on the spot when Szcz wanted a new contract had it been done quiet no one would have known any better

  4. rico says:

clockend, we will have to disagree, i think they are a footballing side these days…

yloops, when one uses wordpress, the layout is as it is, but as for being like LG, i take that as nothing other than a compliment….

  5. Gary says:

So just what is the point of this negative crap. I keep on ending up on your stupid blog by accident, must really find a way to stop coming here.

  6. rico says:

    Morning steve, thanks…

If i were him i would say nothing and just get on with his plans, then we expect nothing and don’t feel let down but hey, any signing this month as long as its not a silvestre or a 12 year old, will be a bit of a bonus 😉

  7. rico says:

Wow, sweeping statement Gary, what’s negative about today then??

Feel free to go back to your own blog, I’m sure thats pure class…..

Oh, but you don’t have one do you….

  8. rico says:

Steve, i get naffed off when folk come on and just slate without backing it up – don’t you worry though, he’ll be trashed soon enough unless he respects others…

  9. rsd says:

they still play the rough stuff look at the stats for the bolton chels game 2nd most fouls in any game of the season so far

  10. Steve Palmer says:

My concerns at the moment is with Clicky, Why does he always have to play the ball out of defence while under pressure, and not just kick it out and regroup, he has made a few costly mistakes and hasn’t learnt, beginning to be a problem

  11. Tom says:

Clockend, are you sure you watch Bolton. They play alot more football with a hint of bully football with Davies. When you look at their midfield it is a footballing midfield. Wilshere in the space Of the 6 months he was with Bolton changed to a starting 11 player for arsenal. This could be the same with vela. It could be a great move and bring many benefits to both teams.

  12. rico says:

rsd, but its a different kind of game they play, they are nothing like the FS days, look how Jack toughened up, that’s all we need Vela to do, it could make him…

  13. rico says:

Steve, he needs to direct a few to row z when he’s under pressure, to be fair though he has been better the last couple of games….

Hi Tom, agree, they are not 7th without reason…

  14. Tom says:

Do you think that sender would want to send a player to Bolton now though looking at them stats. After the wilshere loan relations between Bolton and us improved. But in the meeting earlier on this year when coyle complained about us because of cahill’s sending off. Do you really think sender would want to send one of his players now?

  15. Steve Palmer says:

If were talking about toughening up Vela perhaps we could send Theo And the russian we may even
    get 70mins out of Arshaven

  16. rico says:

Tom, that was the ref’s decision, not wengers so hopefully he’ll let vela go there…

going abroad won’t help him develop for the PL imho..

  17. Rennie says:

You’re right about Vela Rico, he needs games and if he’s gonna have a future with us it has to be in the Premier league! I believe the same goes for JET as well, he needs to play regularly in this league if we are to find out what he can bring to our squad.

  18. rico says:

Hi Rennie, its a tough one, we are still in all comps and we could need the likes of JET if we get a lot of injuries…

But, yes, JET def needs a loan in the PL…

  19. Rennie says:

Hej Rico, as everyone of our strikers are fit (touchwood logs & logs of it) there is adequate cover for our front 3 positions.

    Left – AA & Nasri
    Center – VP & Chamak
    Right – Theo & Bendy

To add to this we can also play Rosicky & Eboue on the flanks. So we could afford to send Vela & JET on loan, with an option for callback if possible

  20. Derek says:

Good morning/afternoon all, I am a Bolton fan who is also a huge admirer of arsenal. Having watched Bolton over recent years I can confirm we do play more football under oc but this isn’t difficult. We still have route 1 in our locker but with Davies being the target it creates many opportunities for his partner and I feel vela would have many opportunities to sharpen his ‘fox in a box’ instincts. Who knows, he may be the new francis Jeffers?

  21. rico says:

Good point Rennie, especially the call back option..

Hi Derek, nice to hear from a Bolton fan and a good comment too, thanks…

You fans must be a lot more pleased to have Coyle instead of Sam, i think the rapport with other clubs is possibly better aswell?

  22. Red Arse says:

    Afternoon Rico, 🙂

Well I liked your Post today; newsy, upbeat, Arsenaly!!

Mind you, when you get a half wit like Gary criticising the blog, that’s a compliment! Especially as he is unable to press the right button and keeps ending up here. Duh!! 🙂

The transfer window rumours bug me, as you know, but they also intrigue me and leave me full of hope!

  23. Red Arse says:

    Derek,

For what it is worth, I think Bolton play much better football now. A good club and a good manager! 🙂

  24. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

I have been reading the post on another blog and it fills me with gloom. The misconceptions and half truths espoused by some Citeh fans regarding Arsenal is appalling to behold.

Fortunately, HH hasn’t suffered too much in that respect. It becomes really pointless and boring to become involved in chat with other club’s fans.

I’m worried about WATH, has he been captured by midgetnappers do you think? 🙂

  25. K-TR7 says:

Howdy all.some interesting views on rotation:
Wolves manager, Mick McCarthy, who was fined for sending out a weakened side knowing that his chances of winning a statistically unlikely game against Manchester United were lessened, intimated so:

“I read an article where Carlo Ancelotti had said that the risk of injury in one game is 10%. And then that goes up to 30% or 40% if another intensive game follows in three or four days. We believe that anyway, but that came from the Milan Lab research centre set up by AC Milan.”
Jose Mourinho’s former fitness coach at Chelsea, Rui Faria,

“Normally you change three players, four maximum, without losing the structure and balance of the team. A left-back for a left-back, a right-winger for a right-winger. The question is to know your team well and the performance of the player in that moment. And then you select which player is better for that game, according to the strengths and weaknesses of the opponents.

“You need to be well prepared and you need a good management of his condition. The only moment when it’s really difficult is where you have game after game after game in a short period. Then you need to manage well, to recover well and to give condition to the players.”

  26. rico says:

That doesn’t sound so good RA, I won’t go and read that then, WATH is fine I think, he was here a few days ago, just think he’s busy this time of year..

Maybe he really is Santa 😉

  27. rico says:

Hi KT, not wanting to sound flippant but MM is quoting the obvious really, too many changes are bound to disrupt the balance – wenger made too many and it showed against wigan…

best he make none on wednesday …

  28. K-TR7 says:

Miyaichi was signed by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger last month after the 18-year-old impressed during a trial stint in the summer.

Unlike Wenger’s previous signing Junichi Inamoto, who failed to make a single league appearance for the North London club, Miyaichi is determined to succeed where his compatriot failed nine year ago.

“I’m confident I have the ability to penetrate defences over there and hopefully I’ll be given the marks that I am looking for,” he said on Kyodo News.

“I just have to go there and give it a shot, compete and hopefully one day I will be standing on the pitch at Emirates Stadium.”

A skillful winger with searing pace, Miyaichi has been likened to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo, but the former Chukyodai Chukyo High School captain was quick to dismiss the comparisons.

“I don’t feel pressured (by the comparisons) but I know in myself that I have nowhere near the talent of such great players as Cristiano Ronaldo and Thierry Henry,” he said. “I just have to do my best to one day come close to being the kind of players they are.”

  29. K-TR7 says:

Anyone see Alexander Hleb’s interview on ESPN? Too honest for his own good, Hleb ADMITTED he wants to come back to Arsenal and said that Birmingham play crappy kick and rush football.

In Hleb’s excitement, he forgot he’s still employed by Birmingham! Honest. Yes. Loyal. No. But we knew that already didn’t we?

Alex ice cream hleb,s’ saga should be a lesson to our players that the grass isn’t always greener.

  30. K-TR7 says:

Kieran Gibbs is about to return to full training and will be pushing for a first-team comeback soon.

The full back has been out since injurying his ankle against Partizan Belgrade on December 8. But Arsène Wenger told TV Online on Monday that the 21-year-old should join in full training on Tuesday and just may make the squad for the FA Cup Third Round tie with Leeds at the weekend.

Before that, on Wednesday, Arsenal face Manchester City in a crucial Premier League game. Thankfully, the Frenchman has no new injury worries.

“Apart from a few bruises we are alright from Birmingham,” said Wenger.

“But Kieran Gibbs is very close. He could be in full training again tomorrow and there is a little chance he is available for Saturday.”

That will leave just Manuel Almunia (ankle), Abou Diaby (calf) and Thomas Vermaelen (Achilles) on the injury list. The Belgian is penciled in for the end of the month while the other two “are still two or three weeks away”.

  31. rico says:

KT, you been busy reading the footie pages then 😉

Read those earlier, good news re Gibbs and Hleb is a cuckoo 😉

  32. K-TR7 says:

Bolton boss Owen Coyle has hinted at making a move for Arsenal striker Carlos Vela in the January transfer window.

The Mexican has struggled to break into the starting line-up at the Emirates and Arsene Wenger confirmed last week that he would allow the Mexican to leave on a temporary basis.

Coyle signed Jack Wilshere on loan for the second half of last season and has suggested he may use his relationship with the Gunners to swoop for Vela.

“Carlos Vela is an outstanding player,” Coyle told reporters.

“I think Arsene said at the weekend he could go on loan and people have looked and put two and two together.

“We have a good relationship with Arsenal, obviously with Jack Wilshere last year and hopefully we played a small part in his development, and there is no doubting Carlos Vela is a wonderful player.”

Chievo and Valencia are also believed to be interested in the Arsenal striker, but Wenger would reportedly prefer his player to gain experience in the Premier League.

Vela has scored 11 goals in 62 games for Arsenal, but only 19 appearances have come from the start.

  33. agirlagunner says:

Boo! Was reading the comments but got caught up at work. Clocked in way too many hours. And the year’s just begun! Oh well. 😉

rico, it can only be good for us if Vela goes out on loan. No point letting his bum gather splinters… 🙂
And Hleb and Flamini deserve their wild success at their respective clubs. Yes, I am vindictive. 🙂

Hi, KT, RA, Stef, Steve… 🙂 Gary is a donut, don’t mind him rico.

  34. rico says:

Boo agag, i’m as vindictive as you, may they both reap what they sow, i don’t want either player/money grabbers back in the red and white…..

gary is indeed a donut 🙂

  35. agirlagunner says:

No one about? Robin’s shooting boots will catch fire just yet, rico. We look so much better with him on board. I guess, our wealth of attacking options makes it hard for opponents to target just one or two players, although Cesc seems a favorite. Nasri isn’t getting kicked as much as our captain, probably because other teams knows Sami WILL kick back. He’s a firebrand, that one. 😉

  36. rico says:

He’s such a massive player agag, even though he’s not firing on all cylinders, other sides know he is dangerous and track him, bit like theo really, he make have a shocker but when he gets the ball two/three players try and close him down, theo just needs to pass it just before they get to him 😉

  37. agirlagunner says:

Would that I could, rico. 🙂 But I have frivolities to fund, as you well know. Poor me. 😉

I really hope we remain injury-free. There is, I must admit, a smugness in seeing the likes of AA, Chamakaka, TR7 et al. on the bench, while other teams (chavs, mancs, etc.) have to call on reserve-type players. 🙂

  38. agirlagunner says:

If Theo keeps on performing like he did against the Chavs, we’d have the makings of a world-beater. 🙂 I never thought I’d ever say that about him, but nobody will be happier to be proven wrong.

  39. rico says:

Ha ha agag, i love seeing the chavs in such a pickle…

ah yes, you best get back to work right now 😉

  40. agirlagunner says:

    I know. 😉 I can’t seem to help myself… I don’t think I want to, tbh. 😛

rico, hope springs eternal, we all want our favorites to come good. I am unreasonably, with little or no basis-ly, and quite happily still rooting for Clichy. 🙂

  41. rico says:

Clichy has been better in the last two agag, maybe he’s getting his old form back – slowly, with Gibbs back in training it should help…..

  42. agirlagunner says:

TR7 is a bit puzzling… He looked so sharp in pre-season. he hasn’t had any fresh injuries, so I cannot begin to imagine what is troubling him. 🙁

  43. rico says:

WATH is ok agag, he’s just a busy old fella, i miss him though, he brings great comments and good humour and i bet you miss him too 😉

  44. rico says:

Off for dinner, back in a bit if antone is still around, agag, if you sya goodnight before i return, sleep well and catch up tomorrow…..
