Morning all.
Unai Emery has been talking to the media out in Singapore.
What have been your first impressions of Arsenal?
It’s great, it’s a big club. It’s got the history, the present and we want to create the future. Arsenal is a London club, an English club, but every day I am seeing Arsenal supporters around the world who identify with and enjoy watching this team. I am very excited, very happy, and we are very, very committed to you, to this club, the history and the present. Every day when I wake up, I have a big motivation to start the day with my work, with the fans, and the preparation for the start of the season. After our pre-season friendlies, we are going to play two big games and now we are getting closer to starting the first big match. Every player and member of staff is focused on starting the Premier League season against Manchester City.
How much are you looking forward to that first game against Manchester City?
Everybody who is working at this club is working towards that game and we want to play a good game for everybody. It’s a great rivalry and to start at Emirates Stadium against Manchester City is the first important focus for us. With all the energy of the players and the supporters, we know we can start the season with a big performance against a big team.
How would you describe your style of play?
Each match, you are looking for every player to transmit intensity, aggression, to show that they want to win and are prepared to work hard to win. We want to do that with style, with a personality, with protagonists on the pitch. We want every player to create things and find things when they’re on the ball. When we are without the ball, we also want to show ambition to recover the ball quickly. We want to demonstrate that not only in every match, but also in every training session. We want our players to be energetic, full of action with or without the ball and as protagonists on the pitch doing things.
‘We want our players to be energetic, full of action with or without the ball and as protagonists on the pitch doing things.’
Well Unai Emery is certainly saying the right things and there’s absolutely no reason why his words shouldn’t be believed. He’s young, he likes attacking football and as we’ve heard from footballing people who know the Spaniard, he leaves no stone unturned in training or the way his prepares his teams ahead of a game. If our players buy into his methods, we’re in for a much improved season.
Protagonist players, love it. I’m not sure the previous manager even knew the meaning of the word let alone know how to implement it into the way we played as for too long we’ve looked like a rudderless ship beginning to sink. A bunch of individuals just left to do as they please, now though we might just get to see who does and who doesn’t have leadership qualities within them.
What surprised me most though was he knew the world and how to pronounce it as he’s still learning the English language. lol
The Ivan Gazidis to AC Milan story rumbles on and all the time we hear nothing official from Arsenal, the more truth I start to believe this rumour. Sky Sports in Italy are reporting that it’s happening and he’ll leave for Italy in September. I really can’t get my head around this one. Why would he leave now he’s finally got what he’s wanted for Arsenal for a while now? It doesn’t make sense, not unless that what his goal and now he needs a new challenge. Perhaps he’s upset other board members and the owner, I don’t know and I’me just guessing. The way Ivan Gazidis has spoken about the club over the last year wasn’t the words of a man who is ready to quit anytime soon. It’s odd from start to finish but hey, Arsenal are more than just one man and should he leave, they’ll be plenty of people submitting their CV to the club.
People move on in employment, it’s life as we all know. As long as Arsene Wenger doesn’t get any ideas of a return eh, that’s the last thing we’d need so soon after waving him off…
Good morning Rico, Unai Emery certainly knows all the right words and is saying them in the right order.
We’ll be better able to judge how things are shaping up after tomorrow’s game against Atletico Madrid (kick off 12.35 BST), but we won’t be able to watch it on TV. Not even on Arsenalplayer. Shame!
Morning Cicero, you can watch it if you subscribe to The Premier League channel on Sky. It’s £9.99 a month so I’m considering paying for a month and then cancelling…
Hot, dry and sunny again here in Norfolk, what a great summer!
Rico I know you find Le Tour boring, but in what other sport would the participants get stopped by revolting French farmers, sprayed with pepper dust by the brutal French Gendarmerie, then get back on their bikes and ride up three mountains, only for the leader of the stage to crash into a wall, on a descent and somersault into a ravine. later another rider, UK’s Adam Yates, crashed on another descent whilst leading the stage. both riders got up to continue, Yates to eventually finish third, while the other rider had to abandon the race due to the injuries received in his crash.
Today’s stage promises to be a killer huge mountains to climb, and hot sunny weather with the threat of thunder storms.
………Ha! Despite paying a subscription for Sky Sports, I still can’t watch that channel. I simply refuse to donate anymore of my pension to that88 greedy, grasping, miserly bunch of *%~>@{**s.
Ha ha re The Tour Cicero, you have a point.
The £9.99 doesn’t go to Sky, it’s an independent broadcasting channel..
Great post again Rico the more I listen to emery the more i can’t but love him. Even though he wasn’t my choice for the post he has finally won me over. Am on board full time with him. Can’t wait to see our players pressing en masse and wining the ball back in the opposition half and initiating a counter attack. In emery I trust 😉😉😉morning HH.
Morning Rico and all. I would think that the Gazidis rumour should be met with a denial from the club very soon.
Thanks Stan.
Morning Adam. I hope so.
Iwobi pens a new 5 year contract with the arsenal. Doubling his pay lol. A lot of gooners are gonna lose their shit over that. Me included. Hope emery turns him around from his downward trajectory cause he’s been shit for almost 3 seasons now. Like I said yesterday am willing to give every player a clean slate. Let’s see how they perform under a new regime.
The Iwobi pay rise is a cunning marketing ploy. Other clubs will be thinking “if Arsenal are giving him a five year contract and double wages he must be good. Let’s offer £50 million and see if Arsenal will sell him”.
Lol cicero you wish😂😂😂I actually think there’s a player in there just needs consistency. If emery rates him like it’s being reported then am willing to give him a season to sort his shit out. I still think he stagnated cause of Wenger. We ‘ll see what happens in a few months time.
The Iwobi deal is just the club protecting its investment, we still need to tie down Reiss Nelson and of course the Ramsey deal rumbles on and on and on.
The Gazides stuff is worrying, losing Ivan may mean Junior taking over as CEO just as Senior buys out Usmanov and accountability at Arsenal dies.
I can’t believe that fans actually want Gazidis to stay. He’s a money driven moron with delusions of grandeur and a Peanut Head to boot. I’d gladly drive him to Milan to ensure that he never darkens our doors again.
Certainly the disaster on the horizon Kev, we have all been through the pits and troughs over the years but The Arsenal always stood for something. If it goes 100% Kroenke , I fear for it’s values and future.
Maybe Dankote ( the Nigerian magnate ) will get in touch with Usmanov . Although we will have no say in the matter , rather like the board I don’t want single ownership of the club taking us off the stock market and opening the doors funds being used in America . This was always a possibility from the day that Fiszman persuaded Lady Nina to sell to Kroenke and not Usmanov in his quest to spite Dein . Had she sold the other way the split would have been closer to 55 / 45 and Usmanov would have been in a stronger position.
Potter don’t think the kronks ‘ll sell to dangote. They are here for the long haul. It ‘ll probably be passed down to Josh once the old crone croaks. Like you am petrified with a sole owner and when that owner is America and he is named Stan kroenke??? Then there’s definitely fire on the mountain. God help us.
There can’t be much of a market for Usmanov’s shares as ownership of them doesn’t guarantee a seat on the board nor any influence on the way the club is run.
The last offer, that we know about, for Usmanov’s shares was £525 million by Kroenke, I believe he was told to put his offer where the Sun don’t shine.
Before that Usmanov was unsuccessful with a £1 billion offer to buy out Kroenke.
Questions remain, does Usmanov need to sell?
Would he sell to Kroenke?
How much does Kroenke want those shares?
What price will he go to in order to get them?
Ramsey has apparently said his Arsenal future is uncertain. I reckon he’s offski..
Not much of a statement from Chips about Gazidis..
Evening guys.
Short and sweet statement from our chairman, it’s good to know he can remember our new manager’s name so soon.
Must have been having a good day…
Bon voyage Le Jeff, the first of quite a few to be moved on over the next two weeks.
Clearing the decks for another signing perhaps?
Does it really make that much difference whether Kroenke has 90% or 60%? At the end of the day, he’s still making the decision as the majority shareholder with no input from whomever the minority holder is. We are stuck with the guy and it’s really sad.
Obi, I suggest you read the statements by AST (Arsenal Supporters Trust), there you will find the reasons why it is vital to keep the club out of the hands of a single owner.
Morning Cicero, all.
New post up.
