Transfer Window Officially Open & Medical scheduled for today…..

Morning all…

Sadly, that medical is reported to be for the departing Johan Djourou. He’s not gone forever though, the move is suggested to be a season long loan deal with German side Hamburg.

This move is a peculiar one for me.

Djourou is 26 years old, an age where he should be at his peak and forming a regular partnership in the defence of his team. But clearly Arsene Wenger doesn’t believe he has what it takes to:

A) Be that player at Arsenal

B) Be good enough to step in to allow rotation or to cover injury.

So why just a loan I wonder. Surely the player, who in all honesty has been nothing other than an a true professional during his time at Arsenal, should be sold. He deserves to be the ‘main man’ for another clubs defence. Ok, that might mean the big Swiss guy needs to move to a ‘lesser’ side but he’s the kind of guy who just wants to play. And he deserves that surely, just as he deserves to be settled in his life in a different country, for a different club, rather than just living ย life out of a suitcase.

With him leaving what will happen this season if any one of Mertesacker, Koscielny or Vermaelen suffer injury? Worse still, two of that three and with the recent problems suffered by Thomas Vermaelen, that really could happen.

Is a 20 year old Ignasi Miquel going to be ready to step in should that happen?

Or are we really after Ashley Williams and if so, have we really scoffed at his ยฃ10 million price tag?

I don’t think so….

While there seems to be constant speculation about Ashley Williams, I can honestly say that I havenโ€™t had one call from anybody about him.

That’s what Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has said.

The Daily Telegraph believe that the Captain of Wales, who is soon to turn 29 years old, will over the next few days tell his current club that he wants to move on, with Arsenal being his preferred destination.

Personally, I hope the two clubs can find an agreement which would see Williams at Arsenal next season.

Transfer gossip, well for once, I can’t find any that we haven’t read before.

Well, other than Cesar is meant to be a ‘done deal’……

According to ESPN that is…..

Finally, good luck to Andy Murray and Laura Robson today…….

That’s it for today, have a good one…..

  13. tsgh says:

You traitor Scott… you sound like Nastry…
    lol
Talking about the lil New Zidane who never was… I am hearing he wants to come back to us… He does not think he will get a game with J Navas arriving…

  14. W.A.T.H says:

Am well Ts, trust you had a decent weekend.

Scott, you just highlighted the fact Rico is a secret Murrey lover………. As you can tell the rest of us don’t like him that much lol

  15. tsgh says:

    Yes I had a good weekend WATH…

I like L.Robson but if I said that I would sound like goonster so…

  16. W.A.T.H says:

  17. tsgh says:

… creaming in his pants. lol

WATH, did you keep tabs on Gustavo… he marshalled the 2 amigos in the spanish midfield so well… and he hardly gets booked.

  18. tsgh says:

Rico has a thing for accents… I heard she replied Steve Mcclaren’s interview with the Dutch accent multiple times…

Barton’s french accent was even a feature in Rico-ville… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  19. W.A.T.H says:

  21. W.A.T.H says:

Scott, how many hat-tricks is Aaron gonna score this coming season…?

  22. Lee says:

WATH, it was seemless last week….. a consummate professional, dealt with all the trolls & AK all in your stride!!! The plaudits didn’t justify the sterling work you did…….. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  23. allezkev says:

  25. tsgh says:

Ak, mentioned WATH has a 1920’s brogues he bought in the 20’s and he wears them out every 10 years… that makes WATH a living legend… lol

  26. devilgunner says:

Good Morning Lady, Sir and Gentlemen.

Borringgggggg again today. No news except that we signed the highly known NOBO DY.

    I liked Cesar yesterday. Solid.

Spain got a dose of their own medicine. Serves them right. They should be humiliated for once.

  27. allezkev says:

    It’s ok Rico, thanks.
    Back to work today…

Tbh, I don’t expect any positive transfer news involving Arsenal this week, so we’ve just gotta chill whilst the PetroDollar clubs do their worst…

I reckon we might have some transfer news next week, you know, Miyaichi joining Feyenoord on loan for example.

    Gimme that Fiver Boss…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  28. rico says:

At least you had the sunshine Ak, that and Estrella is a match made in heaven ๐Ÿ˜‰

No chance, not yet and in any case, it’s still only at ยฃ3.92… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  29. W.A.T.H says:

Ts you tit you got it all arse about face… AK has the 1920’s brogues…! Your getting as senile as he is..!

  30. tsgh says:

Scott, Aaron is the new Frank Rijkard… even if we buy Fellaini, Aaron will be starting… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  31. Scott from Oz says:

Mate, if we bought Messi, Cesc, Ronaldo, Iniesta and Meymar, Aaron would be starting ๐Ÿ™‚

  32. tsgh says:

Rico, so Moyes is the new flavour to the media… it seems Jose is not as exciting 2nd time round…

  33. allezkev says:

Ha ha Ginge, yeah, I knew that someone with your counter-insurgency skills would smoke out Wath eventually.

His 1920 brogues were very comfortable and just as good as the day he brought them, for the White Horse Cup Final… ๐Ÿ˜›

  34. devilgunner says:

I like Gustavo Ginge. But I prefer Illarramendi or Alaba in the DM position………Alaba being my first choice.

  35. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence. It seems we are a feisty bunch this morning.

Rico – I have read that Djourou’s deal comes with an option where Hamburg must purchase if he is played more than x number of games. In the meantime he is off the club’s wageroll.

  36. rico says:

But both still part of the squad Ts, but I’m glad they didn’t play, better for us … ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. rico says:

That’s incredible Lee, doesn’t seem that long ago his curly locks were gracing the Highbury turf….

  38. Scott from Oz says:

A 700 thousand loan fee with an option to buy for 1.7 million is what the deal for Djourou is…if he info is right, of course ๐Ÿ™‚

  39. rico says:

Morning Cg, that’s interesting re JD. Looks like he may be gone for good then…

Ts, seems so re Jose at the moment, wait until he starts signing a few big names…

  40. devilgunner says:

What do you all think about the Richards rumour???

Smoke without fire or does it have legs???

  41. Xr!s says:

I do not think JD would be allowed to leave even on a loan deal if there was no interest in at least a defender at his level or better. It might also mean that Miquel would be promoted but it makes no sense to me(if not for JD to play regularly)to let him leave if a better defender won’t be bought

  42. devilgunner says:

    Good day XR.

Alaba is a DM midfielder by trade. He plays at left back because BM are well stocked in the DM department. But with Austria he plays DM

  43. tsgh says:

Asier is very Busquet-like… I prefer Camacho personally.

At Soceidad David Zurutuza does most of the donkey work in midfield… whilst Asier ‘sweeps’ very well..

Assier was preferred for the u-21’s because I think he is more disciplined with 2 very tactical players playing ahead of him… I doubt he will be effective in a double pivot… what do you think?

You are right Dev, Alaba playing at DM for Austria… but he was in a 4-4-2 the last I saw him play in the central role…

The spuddies have raided Soceidad for Alberto De La Bella … a decent left back..

  44. tsgh says:

Miguel could have joined Malaga last season as part of SC19 deal… he chose to stay… he deserves a chance imo…

  45. Canadian Gooner says:

DG – I’ve read that UnReal Madrid are interested in Illaramendi, so I can’t see Arsenal pusuing him until the Higuain transfer is completed or rebuffed.

  46. rico says:

Only when he gets a run in the side will we know if Miguel is good enough, me personally would prefer him to be playing each week and learning…

Maybe loan him to Swansea with a call back option, oh, and we get Williams ๐Ÿ™‚

  47. tsgh says:

Hi Cg, Perez said he did not see the point in having scouts when AW will do the spotting and he can outbid AFC…

Higuain was bought by Unreal because AW was/is friends with Higuain Snr… Pastore moved to PSG because AW could not afford him 3 years ago… with Zizou coming in as Assist Manager and with no ridiculous money to spend Unreal are building a very young team now for the future…

  48. tsgh says:

Rico, when Miguel has come in even at LB he has been good… I think he has stamina issues though as he does not play often enough…

What I like about him is that he is a communicator and an organiser…

  49. tsgh says:

IG and AW are using the scatter gun approach… if we bid for so many, we may get lucky with one or two…

  50. ktr7 says:

Good read.now no more excuses since the window is open.

Credible reports in Germany are saying we’ve had a โ‚ฌ23mil bid for L.Bender turned down with Leverkusen categoretically ruling out any sale.after the fellaini rumours its clear that we are after a CM.

We are also after a GK if rumours are to be believed and it appears Cesar is the guy.add to that an AM due to the Grenier rumours and ST due to hig/roon/jovetic stories.that makes 4 signings.lets hope we can pull it off.

  51. tsgh says:

I am worried about our transfer policy… being AW biggest fan and all I am suspecting that what we are doing as a club is going for the players we wanted 2 or 3 seasons ago that we could not afford… instead of going for in-form players available.

Every one knows Lars would not leave BVB and Sven is better but we have put a bid in for him… what about Ginter who is available?

  52. ktr7 says:

hi ts.on saturday i wanted to engage you on something you had written re:higuain but once i posyed my comment you had already left.it was around 8:45 pm if you could check it out and get back to me.

  53. ktr7 says:

Leverkusen will not sell Bender to us in my opinion.Bayern wanted him last summer ahead of j.martinez but they were rejected and went all out for the latter.they have already lost Carvalaj to madrid and schurrle to chelsea and i highly doubt they want to lose more players.they are in CL group stages and are not desperate for cash.

  54. tsgh says:

    ktr7 says:
    June 29, 2013 at 8:45 pm
Ts you picked out a very good point re:higuain.

My man.. I have seen that… and you raised all valid points too… you know your football…

On the Benders… since Lars is not a DM but a german Ramsey if you like… what does it say about our hunt for a DM?

  55. Canadian Gooner says:

tsgh – I suspect the club have not submitted bids for as many players as the press state we have. There seems to be evidence for Jovetic, Higuain, Grenier, and possibly Cesar and Bender. They have obviously made inquiries about other players, but I don’t think that constitutes a shotgun approach. Arsene always has alternate targets when players like Fellaini are deemed too expensive.

  56. tsgh says:

Your point at 2:07 is exactly my point… even though I get the twins confused sometimes…

This just shows the board and AW are not efficient in the transfer window… AW should know Sami Hyypia will not sell to Arsenal being a spuddie and friends with Roman and all…

  57. rico says:

Ts – not knocking the player honest, I like him, just think we need a bit more grit at the back….

If true, that is really positive about DM/HM kind of player…

    Exactly Kt, no excuses now….

  58. tsgh says:

Looking at it that way, you have a point Cg… I guess my views are skewer by the news Rumour that Reina has agreed to join us…considering reina will make Flappy look lWC at the moment…

  59. tsgh says:

Rico… I agree with you re Miguel… he even admitted to it himself… he was bullied by Jason Roberts against Reading in the CC during the first 20 minutes last season…

Rico, I might be looking at things negatively… but the Lars bid though very exciting is just papering over cracks imho… Lars is not a DM and even his twin Sven was bullied by Ramsey last 2 seasons’….

Why is AW not going for the likes of Medel… the Chilean pitbull or a Capoue. I am worried Aw is not really looking at a pure DM per se.

If AW is going to spend that amount on such a player then Camacho or Asier are cheaper options…

  60. ktr7 says:

Ts i think AW is looking for a player that will have the same sort of impact as Martinez for Bayern.it seems Arteta will still be 1st choice in his role and thays why i suspect we’ll not go for Illaramendi right now but maybe next year to take Arteta’s place in the team.

Martinez added an element of physicality to Bayern’s midfield which Luis Gustavo couldn’t and this gave bayern a whole new dimension as they were now able to physically steamroll opponents as well as also being technically and tactically better.

We need that in our midfield and i believe AW is using Bayern as a template.

  61. Lee says:

If we are going to lift four players, surely they can’t all come from outside the PL, can they? I’m just thinking of the “bedding in time”……. what you think peeps?

  62. Canadian Gooner says:

I can’t see Arsene spending 10 million on Reina when he can get Cesar for 1 to 2 million and probably a lower pay packet. He is now able to buy higher tier/more expensive players, but he still wants value for money.

The bid for Bender, a player who he would like but probably wont get, may also be a bargaining ploy for Fellaini. Martinez may want to keep him, but if Fellaini wants a move, Martinez may be willing to bargain over price. In the meantime Arsene can see if he can get one of his alternates at a lower price &/or wage.

  63. ktr7 says:

Also with higuain as our main forward he doesn’t win many aerial challenges.i believe he won only 43% last season.a player like fellaini would be our main target for goal kicks and he would help at set pieces too.Last season especially in away games despite Giroud being exhausted AW couldn’t take him off due our lack of height in the team especially un midfield.

  64. tsgh says:

ktr7 I honestly think what Martinez brought to Fc Munchen is what Ramsey brought to our midfield from February… I know I rate Ramsey highly but most don’t so it is a sensitive one… but when you re-watch the 2nd league against FC Bavaria, Ramsey dominated Martinez and Schweinsteiger…

Like Munchen, Arteta = Schweinsteiger whilst Martinez =Ramsey… Ramsey/Schweisteinger doing the donkey work whilst the less mobile technician orchestrates and dictates play…

I have written a post about this considering what effect that combo has on JW10… a bit controversial so… ๐Ÿ˜‰

When Cesc left he tipped Aaron to take over his position ones his final ball improves because of his engine…

  65. Canadian Gooner says:

Lee – Would Bender take as much time to bed in as someone from Ligue Un or the Primera Liga. the Bundesliga is a more physical league than those and they play a more robust game? The problem with shopping in the BPL is the inflated prices, especially with the premium on English or homegrown players due to the squad rules.

  66. tsgh says:

Lee, re bedding in period… that is why I am a keen advocate of Benteke or Negredo as the striker option…

We already have so many luxury players.. we need players who will defend from the front like the rest of the top 4 or 6 teams in Europe do..

As I said before a team or starting line-up of TW14, Sc19, Hig, andJW10 as our front 4 will make us very weak defensively

  67. tsgh says:

From february onwards according to opta stats… Ramsey won more duels than any other midfielder in the league… against FC Bayern, he won 89% whilst Martinez won 63% of his tackles…

  68. ktr7 says:

Ts i had lost hope on ramsey but during the latter part of the season i began to see him in a whole new light.i agree on you about bayern.however id like to add that even before martinez went to bayern they had Gustavo doing the donkey work but once Martinez came he could do more.he is even more physical and could make those diaby sort of runs from deep due to his physique.Gustavo couldn’t do this and as a result lost his place.Bayern now had a new dimension both in defence and attack making them so dangerous.thats the sort of impact we are looking for.

  69. Canadian Gooner says:

tsgh – I think the team did start to defend from the front in the last part (10-12 games) of the season, that’s why things improved. Also, I think Arsene will buy a DM/HM. Whether that’s Capoue, Fellaini, Gonalons, etc. remains to be seen. That would shore up the defence and give us a buffer in front of the back four.

  70. rico says:

Ts – I don’t think that kind of player is in his mind, albeit it is ours, is Bender a box to box player?

  71. rico says:

Spot on Lee. So Fellaini and Rooney it is then ๐Ÿ™‚

Seriously though, I am with Ts on Benteke if we can’t get Rooney, I really like him…

  72. ktr7 says:

im looking forward to your article ts.this may sound controversial but right now ramsey is more likely to have a future at Arsenal than jack.however talented jack is he has no role in the team.he doesn’t contribute enough in terms.of goals/assists to play AM and not as disciplined as ramsey in the box to box role.he needs to have a very good preseason where he zooms in on a role in the team.because as it stands we don’t really need.him.Ironically he is very talented not to play.

  73. NashuaGunners says:

Good Afternoon Rico and welcome back. Good Afternoon HHers.

What happened to players from another clubs when AW shows interest… their prices go up and we are out bid by the likes of RM, ManCity or ManU. So, why would he reveal his main interest??? The same with LP9, he was kept under the radar until things materialized.

    @tsgh. your 1:56
I.Wright was bought at the age of 28. MA8, LP9 and SC19 were all middle age players. Its all depends on the price range and what they will offer the squad. The downside to this is their resale value.

I’d rather we get players from the EPL. No time for bedding.

  74. tsgh says:

Gustavo is very immobile though KTR7… be is more like Barry of $hitty…

Rico, Lars is the closest to Khedeira (spelling) or Montolivo… basically he is a Ramsey with better passing but less stamina…

    Hi Ng… long time… I answered your question on saturday… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  75. tsgh says:

If Rico and Lee can remember, I mentioned on here last November than I rated Ramsey higher than JW10 but miost thought I had smoked something funny… ๐Ÿ˜‰ That was when Ramsey was playing his worst and out of possition… but I thought he was being asked to do a job by AW and he was doing it very well tactically…

As I always say AW is very easy to read on players he like… when AW describes a player as inteligent, (like Lars or Felliani) he wants the player… other players AW describe in that fashion are Diaby, TR07 and MA08… he described CF4 that way when he was 16… JW10 is described as ‘
his passion for the game, and keep the attitude of wanting to become a better player. ”

  76. Wavy says:

If we really are after a Bender, will we go back with a higher bid or not?
IsAW serious or was this just a ‘range finder’ for some other German?
Ah, the melting pot is beginning to set! Or not.

  77. NashuaGunners says:

Hi tsgh, I saw it but too late for me to respond. One thing I took notice of was your comment on “Fallaini is not even DM for Everton and Country.” AW can convert him to DM. What we badly in need of is a DM. MA08 to me is not good enough in that role.

  78. ktr7 says:

Ts and thats exactly why they went for martinez.they used to play schweni/Guatavo pivot which never really convinced.

When i think of jack i like to think of kroos from bayern.the same points we are raising about jack were raised about him in CM role.however, last season prior getting injured he played as their no.10 and was brilliant there.he contributes more than jack in terms of goals/assists.he even scored a beauty at the emirates.jack needs to add that to his game if he is to honour the number printed on his shirt.

Guardiola has already told Ribery he’ll play as a no.10 for bayern next season.it will be interesting to see how that pans out.

  79. rico says:

Ts, send the post please, we could do with something away from the transfer window ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks re your view on Lars, I haven’t seen him play.

  80. Canadian Gooner says:

Well it is an interesting discussion, but I’m off to bed while it is still cool. We’re having a bit of a heat wave here, not as hot as the western U.S. of A., but it takes all night to cool the house down to a comfortable level. Till tomorrow fellow Gooners. Keep the Faith!

  81. rico says:

Off for a bit now, catch up later..

And Ts, if you still think that, I still think you are smoking something funny ๐Ÿ˜‰

  82. tsgh says:

Wavy, Simon Rolfes is the DM for Leverkussen.. but Bender never stops running… Simon is 31 though so I doubt he will come in…

Personally, Ginter is the one for me… but when the Bavarians come calling for a German… they do not say no…

  83. tsgh says:

Ng, AW can convert him… as you say and Felliani says he prefers DM but I wonder why even his national team manager does not play MF in the DM position?

  84. NashuaGunners says:

tsgh, when was the last time Belgium qualify for WC??? Was it in 1982??? Or I’m wrong???

  85. W.A.T.H says:

Ts, I think MF can do the DM role easily but I think people also see he offers a great deal going forward hence they want to try and make the most of his attributes, he’s a beast in the box and hence scores plenty goals and is a huge threat from corners n set pieces, he also has good feet for a big lump..!

  86. ktr7 says:

Ts do you think Fellaini can be that martinez player for us?…because i just can’t see it.

just seen JW10 say he needs a solid preseason.he really does.he needs a cesc-esque conversion to play as an AM because thats the only place i can see for him.i can’t see him as part of the double pivot.

  87. tsgh says:

Interesting you say that Ktr7 re JW10.. I see him as the long term successor to MA08… but only with a mobile DM playing in front of him like Song did, during Jacks first season…

The issue is that by doing that Arsenal fans will say the DM is not doing his job because Jack is not tactically sound…

As a CAM, he is not comfortable with his back against play… his positioning is wrong when the team does not have the ball either… Holyby is a perfect modern no.10….

JW should learn from TR07 imo…

I agree WATH re MF… that was his position before he joined Everton

  88. tsgh says:

I see no one is being linked to Keislling yet? Though he is 29… he was the 2nd highest scorer in the Bundesliga… I will take him though…

On JW10… courtesy of Lee :- Q:One of the many strengths of that team was the exquisite midfield balance that Arsene Wenger orchestrated even if it meant leaving out Robert Pires or Freddie Ljungberg. Do you see that as an issue with you and Santi Cazorla?

A: Remember, last season was Santi’s first in the Premier League and he adapted brilliantly. He was probably our best player last year, but he and I are still learning each other’s games. I think we work best when I’m sitting deeper and he’s playing ahead of me like Cesc did during our first season together. But Cesc is a different type of player from Santi. Cesc would pick up the ball deep while Santi likes to play in tight spaces. But Santi and I are developing a good rapport and I think it’ll get even better this

  89. W.A.T.H says:

Both for me Adam they 2 completely different types of players..!

KT, did you ever see much of Liam Brady…? That will be Jack…!

  90. tsgh says:

From what I have seen of Brady on videos… VHS. lol. Liam had other attributes apart from the sweet left foot… both players share…

Liam read the game better… imho

  91. ktr7 says:

Analysing jack’s strongest attributes id consider dribbling and passing especially those 1-2’s.those would be ideal for a trequartista but as you say his positioning isn’t the best.AW clearly views jack as an AM and am sure during preseason a lot of.work will be put for him to see how well he plays there with a proper preseason.this is crucial since when he and santi played together they ended up occupying the same zones in the final 3rd which made our attacks break down more often than not.Rosicky on the other hand dovetailed perfectly with santi and our attacks were better.jack needs to develop that understanding which is why preseason is vital for him.

Ts you may have a point but i don’t see him playing there in the immediate future. It reminds me of how Ancelottii converted Pirlo from a no.10 to a deep.lying playmaker.it turned out to be a masterstroke so i wouldn’t rule it out.

  92. tsgh says:

… and Pep Guardiola was converted from winger to DM by AW senior i.e Johan Cruyff

The same was changing a mediocre Laudrup from striker to CAM and then the rest is history…

AW converted weah from striker to 2nd striker and he ended up scoring more goals…

  93. NashuaGunners says:

… and AW converted TH14 from winger to Main Striker and he ends up with a statue in the Emirate and the rest is history.

  94. tsgh says:

Gervinho, needs plastic surgery to become a finisher like Inzaghi or Papin… lol

Adam, Gerv is a good striker just a useless finisher… he gets in the best positions that you can not coach a striker to get in but his finishing is atrocious to say the least.. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  95. tsgh says:

Ng.. Aw even made Klinsman and the spuddie Glenda Hoddle better players… Gerv ?well, well

With 18 months on his contract he will become deadly… mark my words…

  96. ktr7 says:

I firmly believe jack will be deployed as an AM next season because rambo/arteta are ahead of him in the other roles in midfield.Wenger isn’t planning on spending big for an AM and thats why i think we are being linked with Grenier as a fall back option if jack doesn’t convince playing there.

  97. Adam says:

I am afraid that the subtleties of the modern game are wasted on me. If you can be a good striker and a useless finisher and Ramsey is a better player than JW then I will go back to building sand castles. At least they get washed away when the tide comes in. See you later.

  98. NashuaGunners says:

It really hard to defend Gerv… But very easy to frustrate the living hell out of Arsenal supporters. Just don’t put your hopes on him when he has the ball in front of the net.

  99. tsgh says:

Adam… you seem to take things too personal… just a bit of fun, and light hearted chart sometimes… I was even saying AW who was Gerv biggest supporter has given up on him…

  100. tsgh says:

Ng, Ktr7… do you know Gattuso was a CAM before and even during his time in Scotland? He was then converted to a ball-pressing terrier with Pirlo and Seedorf operating behind and around him…

  101. ktr7 says:

Ts i agree that Gervinho’s movement is excellent.he also has that dribbling ability that can.be quite useful for a frontman.however i think he lacks any sort of shooting technique to be an excellent finisher.he seems to lash at the ball most of the time hoping it goes in.he also seems to be very fragile in terms of confidence in his own ability.the beginning of last season showed he can be quite useful but i think if a good offer comes in he’ll be released.

When Giroud was suspended in the latter part of the season wenger opted to play poldi in his place over gerv for a reason despite the former struggling to make an impact.that tells you how much confidence wenger has in gerv at this point in time.

  102. NashuaGunners says:

tsgh, never knew Gattuso was in Scotland.

Would the current Ramsey or Gerv future in the Invincible???

  103. W.A.T.H says:

Na$ri can come back and mow the pitch…………
Think Jack has more awareness and qualities than you give him credit for. When Jack plays well we play well, he gives us tempo that most cannot you also need to remember he had 16 months out of the game as well just like Aaron. I think Jack can play where ever he wants he is that good it’s a matter of where best does he see himself and where best will the team benefit the most as well.

  104. tsgh says:

๐Ÿ˜€ Ng… you are trying to get me barred from here… ?

I think Wiltord, Ljunberg and a few of the players including Parlour were not great players… what those players had was tonnes of application… our current bunch shirk from trying hard…

Most of our die-hard fans make escises for the likes of SC19 saying his job is not to defend… but even Kanu defended ๐Ÿ˜‰

When you compare most teams to the current FC Munchen team… man to man they are not the best team in the world… Boateng could not even make $hitty’s bench, Mandzucic (spelling), Muller are average at best… but those guys give 100%….

we have players like Theo, Poldi, doing f all in certain games but some fans would rather get on the backs of a misplaced pass by Ramsey

  105. ktr7 says:

Ts i don’t think muller is average at all;far from it.he may not stand out on the ball but i believe some of the best football intelligence around.his spatial awareness is exceptional too.there is a reason he is 1st choice for club and country despite not having flashy attributes.

  106. NashuaGunners says:

Ramsey Gerv and MA08 tells you how low Arsenal has fallen. All those 3 will not futured in the then Invincible.

Ramsey runs around and gives the ball away cheaply; Gerv can dribble pass a defender and get to the net and don’t know what to do with the ball. And MA08, until he get call in the Spain lineup as a DM, he doesn’t cut it.

  107. tsgh says:

    WATH… you have a point…

I am not saying JW is rubbish… what I am talking about is the balance of the team…

People on LG and on here use to say we lost matches when Ramsey played until the last 12 matches of the season when they realised that tactically… we lose a lot with JW in the team… because of who we have in the team currently…

For instance Jose does not play Kheidira, Di Mario, Ozil and Hig in the same team in big matches… why? If he has to play Hig he drops Kheidira and brings in Essien or plays Benzema to balance the team…

JW played better with Song playing ahead of him doing the dirty work and JW taking the ball from deep and running at opposition…That made JW10 look good but made Song look very bad to some fans who expect DM to be sitting in front of the back 4…

Football has changed and most top teams do not do that…

At PSG, DB07 sat deeper and the DM played further forward as Song did…

  108. NashuaGunners says:

tsgh, even TW14 don’t cut the muster anymore. I’d prefer Johnson from stroke City. With Theo you never know if he is going to show up… Don’t tell Rico I said that. ๐Ÿ™‚

  109. tsgh says:

Exactly Ktr7… football brains or intelligence… most of our players do not have that…

Saying that Ktr7… why is Mata preferred to SC19 by Spain when most AFC fans worship Santi…?

Ramseyโ€™s has 88 percent pass completion… one of the highest in the EPl and he was not ebven a starter… but most will say it was all backward and sideward passes…

    That is the mentally most fans have, and that is the reason the English national team look mediocre at tournaments. Until people realise it is better to keep the ball than just hoof it ;

  110. tsgh says:

Ng but Theo turns up in big games… like Kosser and Ramsey… most of the rest go missing… that is why we lose the 7% of the matches we need to win to make us champions or WC…

Note Rednose’s win ratio is only 7% higher than AW…

  111. W.A.T.H says:

As u well know TS I like Ramsey always have done so the argument about him and Jack doesn’t wash it for me. They very different and I hear what your saying about Jack but for me he will be the hub of the team. Yes Santi doesn’t defend like he should or could but he is getting better it shows when 3/4 don’t put in a good shift because primarily for me the spine is still to weak to cover for 3/4 players who don’t put in a good shift. Maybe AW is thinking of changing the formation again to get the best from the players we have not trying to make the players fit the formation..? just a thought.

  112. NashuaGunners says:

tsgh: Mata and torres play together; just like Xavier and Iniesta play and understand each other. This must be one reason why Mata was prefer over SC19

  113. agirlagunner says:

Hello, all. ๐Ÿ™‚ rico, checking out Murray. Eeeek. ๐Ÿ˜›

I will say, going through today’s exchange that … we are all unreasonable about our favorites. ๐Ÿ˜€

  114. NashuaGunners says:

tsgh: to be honest with you Brazil won the match but they got away with so many yellow cards. And I wonder why spain didn’t use the 4:3:3 system and kept Torres on the bench when we all know he has no speed.

  115. tsgh says:

Maybe Ng but what about the last 2 years? If your reasoning is in line with Bosque, then CF4 should be playing instead of Mata in the no.10 role?
    ——————————————————————–
A lot of fans going ‘berserkly happy’ because a bid of 20M had been placed for Lars… but how many have really seen him play?

Lars is not even a regular in the german team at the moment, but most fans will choose him over Ramsey. The same way most fans thought Carrick is shite and that Sc19 should be making the PFA team of the season…

In Belgium Weasel is rated higher than MF as an example…

  116. tsgh says:

Later guys and ladies… its been fun. stay safe.

time for me to make my way home from the office…

  117. ktr7 says:

Ts i believe as good as santi’s technical ability is he does tend to be strongly attracted towards the ball.his off the ball movement lacks that variety the likes of mata/ozil provide;even rosicky is better at it.

When santi came to England he started quite well as a no.10 but once teams figured out his movements he was stifled easily and we lost creativity.when rosicky came in and santi went wide he discovered his mojo again.playing wide up front he is much closer to goal allowing him to excel in those tight spaces.there is a reason why even at Malaga he played wide and Isco in the middle;movement.

  118. rico says:

Boo to you agag and don’t you start on me ๐Ÿ˜‰

Safe journey Ts, no smoking that weird stuff on the tube…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  119. NashuaGunners says:

Agreed, no Mata, no Torres either. The last 2 to 4 years was 4:3:3 and CF4 in second half. They did the same during the WC preferable DV over Torres.

To be frank with you I would prefer at this moment we need a proper DM and I don’t know much about this Lars guy.

  120. tsgh says:

“I’ve never played against him but anyone who plays for Real Madrid and Argentina has to be quality. ”

    -Jack Wilshere.

This is the mentality… Thomas Gravesen played for Unreal ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Hi Agag,

    Off now later all

  121. Micko says:

I’m with you rico, it couldn’t have been easy for Andy Murray growing up as a kid in a third world country.

  122. devilgunner says:

    Lee says:

If you dunked Gervinho in a barrel full of tits, heโ€™d come out sucking his thumb!

That was cracking mate. Really enjoyed it.

Good Evening Lady, Sir and Gentleman.

Nasri coming back did you say????? WHAT?????

I’ll go and get me saucepan. Would feel good to whack it in his face.

  123. Adam says:

The transfer window brings it’s own madness it seems. Perhaps it offers too much time for strategic analysis.
At the moment Wenger is engaged in rebuilding a team that will decide his future. If he shows his usual lack of ambition and lets players slip through his hands then the recent credit he built up with the fans will vanish very quickly. The Kroenke stewardship has already received a big thumbs down from the fans who, I believe, are watching and waiting to see what happens next. The battle is certainly for trophies but the real struggle is for the heart and soul of the club.

  124. devilgunner says:

Thanks mate. I am taking my camera everywhere with me. Will keep sending those photos for you to enjoy.

  125. rico says:

Hi Adam. It sure does, and I agree, AW has this summer to prove he’s worth a new contract….

I have a gut feeling he will do well…

  126. agirlagunner says:

rico, i see no denial that you were off to watch him. He just seems like such a surly person. So that’s your “type” Haha.

Hi, Nash, WATH, Adam, Devil, Micko. Hi and bye, Ginge. You’re too hard on LJ. He’ll come back bigger and better. He just needs playing time.

  127. rico says:

Ha ha agag, I went for a walk with Fido, came back and watched the rest, and he’s just won ๐Ÿ™‚

  128. devilgunner says:

We keep saying that AW has this summer to prove he is worth a new contract. But if the board used to force his hand it will be shameful on them to use him as a scapegoat. Yes he has a fat salary, but he has his own dignity as well.

  129. Adam says:

Devil. I don’t follow that argument. In what way are/ have the board forced his hand or used him as a scapegoat?

  130. rico says:

I know Adam, you are not alone. But for me, things are different this summer for many reasons…

  131. devilgunner says:

I agree about that Adam. However I think that some of the sales were not AW’s decision. I feel that PV04, TH14, Na$ri and Cesc were all forced upon AW by the board. AW himself did not want them to be sold especially the last two.

  132. Joaquim Moreira says:

    hello everyone!
Paulinho is in the way out to Europe.
    Totts? R. Madrid?
why we are not interesting in him? He remember me someone… but he is better

  133. Adam says:

Devil. I see where you are coming from and tend to agree but the club has now got a recent history of low ambition and under-achievement. Sad but true. This will be a negative bargaining chip when signing new players. Is this entirely due to the financial restraints? The next few weeks will tell. I just had a jolt of dรฉjร -vu.

  134. bob john says:

Delighted that my favourite tennis player knocked out that big American bloke.Sabine Lisicki I love you!

  135. Lee says:

Why can other teams just get on with it? Identify their targets and get them done and dusted, we constantly faff about giving other clubs a chance to steal a march on us!!!!
Is it because Wenger is so involved in absolutely anything/everything? If so Ivan (or whoever) needs to tell to him to concentrate on the team and all matters on the pitch!!!

  136. rico says:

Bj, you and me both, I bloomin loved watching Williams go out, and Lisicki was such a deserved winner and her after match interview spoke volumes about what a lovely person she is….

  137. rico says:

    Which other teams though Lee?

Those who just offer over the odds on the fee and personal terms, or those who sign players that most of us wouldn’t want to see signed by AW…

I’m as frustrated and pissed off as anyone about the way we are so slow on signing players but if the clubs we are trying to buy off aren’t playing ball, then how can we as a club do any business?

  138. Lee says:

The whole spiel by IG about having millions to spend on players and being able to pay ยฃ200k pw for a single player……just season ticket sales spin? Why alert teams how much you have or haven’t got? Surely keep quiet and just get on with it…..all this hanging about with Adam and AK is turning me into cynic! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  139. Lee says:

Rico, they’ll be lots of other teams that get their acts together before us……we know how Arsene likes to haggle on the price!! History has a way of repeating itself…..cue the happy clappers!!!

  140. rico says:

All those words have done Lee is tell the football world we have money.

Someone here earlier asked why the prices get inflated when it’s us trying to sign them, well that is probably because they know we are desperate, and thanks to IG, they know we have money.

I’m sure he has tried to reassure fans about how we can be stronger this transfer window, together with putting the pressure on AW to spend and make us good…

Someone back in Jan said that the club tried to get AW to sign one or two players, well maybe now that ‘trying’ will become more like ‘forced’…

And imho, it’s now or never for Arsene……

  141. rico says:

Lee, at some stage, things have to change…

SK wants to keep Usmanov away, if things carry on as hey have been, the big guy will surely step in….

I actually hope that happens, but on the other hand, I’d much rather Wenger/Gazidis get it right this time….

  142. NashuaGunners says:

I wonder why some believe IG spin and why he has to come out and praise AW about ‘Him been a good manager’. He has been saying the same spin now for few years telling us we can compete for big name players.
There must be some disagreement because AW doesn’t need any more recommendation or praise to The Arsenal fans and supporters. The Board promised AW if CF4 goes he will keep Nasri but they let him down and sold him. Every one can see the frustration on his face when we faced those lower clubs and those below us on the table and we struggle to finish them off.

And who the fans turn to when such situations happened, AW. I do agree with DG that AW been use as a scapegoat. Even Pier Morgan has said AW is selling our best players even though the authorization comes from above.

  143. rico says:

Just for a minute, if the papers are true on what they report. When did we ever offer clubs the kind of money that we have reported to have offered for players?

Higuain, Rooney and Bender – all of those offers are higher than what we paid for Arshavin….

I haven’t a clue if that’s all true, but if it is, then it’s looking ok…

    Let’s give them a week or two….

  144. Adam says:

What is over the odds anyway? Is any player really worth ยฃ75k a week, let alone ยฃ200k?
Look at what Arshavin and Squillacci cost over the past few years. Arshavin about ยฃ35 million all up? Squillster about ยฃ12 million? That is getting on for ยฃ50 million for very close to zero return. It’s relative. I remember when Chelsea bought Drogba. Many were saying it was a stupid amount of money. Was it ยฃ24-25 million? Good or bad buy?
Not every big signing comes off as we know and there is always a risk involved. Fellaini for ยฃ24 million and ยฃ100k a week seems, in the stupid world of football, about right to me. Can I justify it? No.

  145. Lee says:

Higuain,Rooney,Fellaini and Cesar….. There’s your ยฃ70m gone BUT would those additions win us some silverware? I reckon the answer is yes!!

  146. Lee says:

We’ve been crying out for a Fellaini for ages, yet wasted copious amounts of money on a series of wankers that have only drained our resources!!

  147. rico says:

NG, is it IG spin though??

As a friend of mine said, all he is, is a mouthpiece for Kroenke….

  148. allezkev says:

    Evening All…

Look Gooners, nothing is gonna happen this week.
Arsenal/Wenger, simply do not work that way…

We’ve just gotta toughen ourselves to the usual inertia we get from our hopeless transfer negotiators…

  149. Adam says:

Hiya Kev. But this is the season when it all changes. I believe it anyway. A friend told me this weeks and weeks ago.

  150. Lee says:

Santos and Monreal transfer fees ans salaries = Leighton Baines.
I think Monreal is a good player but a perfect case of buy cheap and buy twice! Just saying……

  151. rico says:

I can;’t disagree there Adam, and Lee, my answer is yes too….

Also, I cannot disagree with the comment about wasted money. We plead poverty yet spend what we do have on absolute garbage sometimes….

  152. allezkev says:

The problem we have, and have suffered from in the post-Highbury years, is the fact that agents in general and those cnuts in the Press, just wind-us-up with a continual stream of lies and false information…

Easily cured if the club publicly denied a lot of these stories, especially some of the more rediculous….

  153. Lee says:

The misappropriation of funds is ridiculous, look at our wage bill, it’s over ยฃ140m pa and how many world class players are we blessed with??

  154. Adam says:

Someone suggested, just the other day, that if they won’t spend any money, just buy the usual suspects, mix ’em up with a lot of super kids and put the ST prices down to about ยฃ400.

  155. Adam says:

No Kev. I have it on good authority that players with egos the size of small planets are due to arrive anytime soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

  156. allezkev says:

Blackheath is very peaceful at this time of the evening…

We might just be in for a few weeks of sunshine.

Mind you I did read that there is torrential rain due to hit Ireland…

  157. Lee says:

Changing the subject slightly, two of my mates were at Ascot the other week and they got chatting to Titus Bramble, Wayne Routledge and Nathan Dyer, my mate asks Bramble for a photograph. He gets all ready to pose when my mate hands him his camera and puts arm around my other mate…….That really fell on stoney, Bramble wasn’t happy!!! ๐Ÿ˜†

  158. allezkev says:

I honestly believe, that, but for a series of crippling knee injuries, that both Afobe and Frimpong could have been good enough to be regular squad members and important players for us now in both their cases…

We have suffered some terrible luck in injuries to both important and potentially important members of our team in recent years…

Why don’t these things happen to our shit players, it’s always someone who quality or potential quality…
    FFS

  159. allezkev says:

Arsenal are chasing two Croatian teenagers and another teenager from Barcalona…

I’ll leave all you Gooners to digest that exciting news…

Take it easy Michael, see ya Rico…

    Offski now…

  160. Micko says:

Good to see you haven’t lost it rico.
Re your 8.58, I’ll believe ya, thousands wouldn’t…..

  161. rico says:

Night to you too Ak, those two are the one’s the papers believe are heading to the Totts….

  162. Micko says:

First sanogo, now two croatians teenagers on the radar, it’s all too much to take in for one day !
    Nite guys, nite rico.

  163. Wavy says:

Yeh, yeh, we’ve signed a player – today!

    Sandyy No Go!

    Says it all, doesn’t it?

    I’m whelmed, under whelmed!

Hope he turns out to be a god, then my under will become over!
Roll on day two….another signing? I can feel it in my water!
Goodnight everyone, goodnight. ( Harry Corbett style after the fashion of Sooty and Sweep!)

  164. Scott from Oz says:

Well, i reckon people should at least watch Sanogo play before criticising.
He will do me for starters.
    Morning all.

  165. Joaquim Moreira says:

The two Croatiana teenagers aren’t Tim Jodvag and Alen Halilovic? Both go to the Totts… like Paulinho (a similar player of Gilberto Silva but better)….

  166. Micko says:

Have to agree Scott, I can see a lot of people ending up with egg on their faces, this injury prone french kid who we got on a free with less than 50 appearances to his name could be the next Pele, I would even go as far as saying he could win us the league next season, and so what if it doesn’t work out we still have Joel Campbell to fall back on.
Higuain or Fellani would be good starters, I’ve actually seen them play, this kid won’t make 10 starts for the first team next season.
But hey, we gotta keep the faith right, Arsene knows.

Big day tomorrow, I hear Rooney will be flying into the Elstree Aerodrome for secret talks, got no reason to lie, Malaga Gooner eat your heart out and tsgh I ain’t taking the pish either !

    Time for my bunk.

  167. NashuaGunners says:

Nice rant there Micko. As you say we’ve to keep the faith. Good night till t’morrow.

  168. Scott from Oz says:

    Micko,i did say “for starters”!!
We should not judge the kid harshly because of the clubs recent history of purchases.
I never suggested anything other than the kid himself should not be unfairly judged.
I made no comment on Wenger or the club.
    Play the ball mate.

    Morning all.

  170. tsgh says:

Sad news indeed, and the 19 firefighters too.

Nicki,I worked it out…you are also Malaga gooner…lol

  173. Lee says:

Not every player with their name ending in “inho” is any good…….look at our one! ๐Ÿ˜†

  174. Adam says:

Lee. Do you remember that football club that played at Highbury? I think they were called Arsenal. Apparently they were bought out with borrowed money by an American weirdo who wears an astonishing syrup. What happened to them?

  175. Lee says:

I make Jack right………. sign Rooney and we will win silverware!
    Plus Higuain and Fellaini…..

  176. Lee says:

I’ve had a spxd mate saying, i thought it was all due to change this summer…….. a free perma-crock is your first signing, things are looking up! I obviously buried him…..

  177. Micko says:

Adam, my mate is the chief cook and bottle washer in the Battle Axe Inn next door to the Aerodrome, not much gets past him, I’ll keep you in the loop.
Start a new job this morning, already got the butterflies, orrible feeling, laters.

  178. Lee says:
