Transfer talks set for today. Could Reus & Nastasic heading to Arsenal?

Morning all.

Remember this day in back 1999 when we beat Leicester 2-1 at Highbury?

Of course you do, it was debut day for the one of the best players, if not the best player Arsene Wenger has ever signed for Arsenal…..

Awesome!
Awesome!

If only he could hop back a few years in time and start all over again, he truly was a wonderful player. He’s not bad now either…

German newspapers are reporting that Marco Reus could be on the move to Arsenal! 25 millions Euros is the players release clause according to those reports and if Ivan and Dickie could get a deal done for him, we’ll all be going ‘wow’!

What a signing he would be, still, it’s all rumour right now, nothing more…

As is our link to Manchester City’s centre half Matija Nastasic who has reportedly been told he is surplus to requirements as City are on the verge of signing another defender.

Daniel Agger looks to be heading to Barcelona which may rule them out of signing Thomas Vermaelen, leaving Man Utd as the only club really interested in him and some newspapers report that Utd are to up their offer to £15 million.

Other reports around suggest Barca officials are heading to London today to secure a deal for our captain so who knows what to believe.

One player we didn’t sign when I think many of us thought we would was Julian Draxler and he’s been talking about why he didn’t move:

The [buy-out clause] stayed with me. I did not play like 20 clubs were ready to pay this sum for me last season. I have to become attractive to big clubs again.

Now I know what it’s meant to be the bogeyman. After the derby loss to Dortmund, it felt like I was the only one who was blamed for it.

How’s that for honesty.

£37 million is a lot of money and to have that kind of figure attached to a 20 year old shows just how daft the transfer fees have become, well, valuations but, and like with any young player, if they are to go on and really fulfil their potential, that valuation could double by the time he gets itchy feet and wants to return home.  That would be considered a very good piece of business..

Unlike players like Vidal of course who is reported to be valued at a staggering £47 million. His valuation will only decrease as the years go by. No wonder LVG is thinking twice about shelling out for him.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love us to sign Vidal, he’s a very good player, but at that price and with a few niggly injuries recorded, far too risky.

Champions League draw tomorrow and I hope we can’t be drawn against Legia Warsaw, they have just thumped Celtic 6-1 over two legs. Ouch.

That’s it for today and writing that was like pulling teeth, I feel sorry for those who read it… lol

Have a good one all, let’s hope we get some good news on the transfer front real soon….

  1. Adam says:

Vidal for about £50 million plus another £8-9 mill a year. Four year contract. With add ons about £90 mill? No real sell on value? Oh yes, excellent business for the Mancs.

  2. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Haaaaaaa!!!!!! 🙂

if today is the happy anniversary of the legend’s debut…….tomorrow is the sad anniversary of the demise of a what could have been……….the hero of Turin. Paul Vaessen.

  3. bradster says:

Can diaby be included in the CL team but out of the prem 25 man squad? I would only add diaby in the Jan transfer window if he hasn’t started talking to other teams.

  4. Hell Raising Devil says:

If Diaby is injured again and AW puts his name down on the CL list then AW deserves to be shot.

  5. Nickie says:

I begin with a top to break myself in gently. Only takes me 3 pints to be away with the stars haha.

Lovely post. Reus signing would probably rule out a DM. Wenger papering over the cracks although I would rather Reus than no signing 100%

  6. Rick says:

Good Morning Rico and the House.
Nice sunny day in the south and at the Emms for the members day.
TV to join his mate at Man U no way.
Sorry its short see you later

  7. Wath says:

Rico, Least you get an invite to Chez Lee…. He won’t invite me he worried I am gonna drink all the sprite…..!

  8. Getaneh Atinafu says:

Diaby should be ofloaded before end of transfer window to have Nastasich and Reus at Arsenal Squad.

  9. tsgh says:

Arsenal’s possible UCL opponents: Athletic Bilbao, Lille, FC Copenhagen, Standard Liege or Besikta.

    when is the DM arriving?

    Good read Rico…

  10. BrainwashedKev says:

    Following on from the Vermaelen Question;

Coach, it isn’t a financial question imo, forget the money, it’s psychological!

It’s how we feel about our club, it’s how the players, the staff, the media feel…

It’s the reason why Man City won’t sell us Nastastic,
It’s the reason why Chrlski, ManUre, Liverpool, City, none of them would sell to Arsenal, one of their better players…

It sends out the wrong message.

    With respect to your view…

  11. lee says:

I agree with you both…. tough one to call! £5m in the bin for Arsenal, they’ll see it as a no-brainer!

  12. Nickie says:

Reus at 20m is a bargain, you do not turn that opportunity down. Even if you over spend.

Get rid of the dead wood

    Diaby 2-5m
    Coquelin 2-5m
    Miyachi 1-3m
    Cazorla/Podolski 9-15m
    Miquel 1m

Reus covered, still leaves funds for top quality DM and a CB if Verm leaves.

    I’m feeling ruthless today.

  13. potter says:

Warming up for the Dwile Flonking tomorrow , don’t know how quick I will be on my sticks , might have to use a mobility scooter.. however after a couple of goes I won’t care.

  14. tsgh says:

    Long time Scott…

I am with Kev, we can’t keep looking at the money all the time…

If TV is going to ‘coast’ along if he stays because his heart is not in it, then Yanited or whoever he wants to join won’t be interested in him next year imo…

Lew, was asked how it felt like playing for BVb knowing he was going to join FC Hollywood… his answer was he tried to play even better to show FC Bavaria were making the right decision.

  15. tsgh says:

    I doubt Reus would join us imo… he turned us down once already before he joined BVB and possibly turned us down this summer or maybe we did after his ankle injury;

Arsene Wenger admitted on French TV Station TF1 in 2012 that he tried to sign German star Macro Reus before he agreed his £14.1 million move to then Bundesliga champions Dortmund.

In my view BVB want a bidding war but the player wanted Barcelona but will now join FC Bavaria…

As they say in Germany all rounds lead to Bavaria… unlike Gotze, reus was born in Dortmond but he has been public with his views that FC Munchen are going to run away with the league again…

  16. kyawmgmgtun says:

The key of success in our arsenal ,answer is very good striker.
    Giroud -about 15 a season
    Snogo- no sure
    Campdell-watch
    Sanchez-not striker
If we haven’t finishion striker ,we can’t success.
    please, rico
    tell me your view

  17. lee says:

I had to google Dwile Flonking…. looks like a blast! Just add some strong East Anglia bitter, job’s a good un!!!

  18. Nickie says:

Would be amazing Ts lol. Henry comes back to captain Arsenal. The real core of the team, slamming tackles about like Cattermole haha

  19. tsgh says:

lol.. so he was assert stripping?

“We have controlled every deal we have made. We feel comfortable. We don’t see it as a crisis”
“Neither Morgan Schneiderlin nor Jay Rodriguez will be leaving” – Krueger (Southampton chairman)

  20. BrainwashedKev says:

Lee, unfortunately you are probably gonna be proved 100% correct re: £5 million extra for TV…

To me, that would be a short-term gain for a possible long-term loss.

Imagine if Vermaelen is the difference between LVG finishing in the top-four or not.
Imagine if Vermaelen is the difference between ManUre finishing above Arsenal, pushing us into 4th spot, needing to qualify again.
That £5 million would look a bit paltry then…

The short-term view of running the Arsenal had left us, again, with one of our better players, on one year left of his contract…
The long-term approach would have seen TV’s situation sorted 12 months ago…

How many more times are we gonna see our club held over a barrel because of penny-pinching and the reluctance to sort out players contracts when they are on two years?

    Stupid is as stupid does!

  21. tsgh says:

    lol Nickie…

    D. Yorke retired playing as a DM/CM for Sunderland, Birmingham and his native in the world cup… lol

  22. tsgh says:

Rico’s best friend Walcott has less than 2 years left on his contract…
Next year by this time the probabilities are we sell him or give him £150kp/w…lol

  23. lee says:

I am leaning more and more to TV being sold overseas…. as you stated earlier Kev £5m vs the knock on effect of selling another player to those slags! I always liked TV but he’s not the player he was, time for an upgrade methinks!

  24. rico says:

    Hunter re Sami Khedira:

“Club to club, the deal between Arsenal and Real Madrid is done.”

“But Arsenal didn’t fancy paying Khedira the wages he wanted.” Hunter told talkSPORT

  25. BrainwashedKev says:

Yeah Lee, agree, I just don’t wanna sell to LVG.

He’s been chasing TV all summer.

He must see TV as an important cog in his new look defensive set up…
The new fangled 3 man back 4……

  26. Hell Raising Devil says:

    40 million for Jack???

    nah!!

I would hold out for 45 million.

If they are willing to offer that sum then I would ask for more.

and buy a ready made replacement.

  27. rico says:

I would sell him, but, the downside would be all the flack the club would get for selling England’s future captain…

  28. Scott From Oz says:

We have to tell Yanited to get stuffed.
No way known we should sell vermaelen to them, rather he goes to Barca for 10 million less!!

  29. babakrdaemi says:

As we done the majoirty of our business I wouldn’t mind missing out on Champions League. It would mean our squad could compete and lets face it. Arsenal and Man U without European Football would be able to take on the oil clubs. Liverpool would be fucked as well.

I wouldn’t want to miss out regularly, and I expect the money is intergral. However, to not play in Europe and win the title is better to play in Europe and finish 3rd – surely.

I think not being in Europe could hand us the title. Imagine the players we could sign then?

If Europe thought Arsene had his mojo back????

  30. BrainwashedKev says:

I’ll tell ya what mate, Arsenal would be tempted to sell him for £30 million I reckon.

But no, I still wouldn’t sell him, no unless we brought in a top top player to replace him.
And with Arsenal, you know that that isn’t a given…

    So I’d keep him… 😉

  31. BrainwashedKev says:

I’m not sure that the ManUre fans are too happy about being out of Europe.

Nor is the club or players…

  32. Bt62 Gooner says:

Rico, i thought you already had a crown, nice post, Tv, my arm is sore holding the door, hurry up! Lee, like you say ‘fuck them all’.

  33. lee says:

We need to equip the team so that we can say “fuck em!” officials/other teams etc….like the 2004 team!

  34. Gonerjoe says:

If we don’t qualify for the CL we will be playing on Thursday nights like sp*rs and that will be worse.

  35. BrainwashedKev says:

    The most commonly seen football shirt, seen on the streets of London is;

    Arsenal….

    Then Real Madrid and Barcalona.

  36. potter says:

I would let Jack go for “£20 million with a two years time buy back clause. Firstly he should get more football and secondly it would get him away from his mates and allow him to grow up and be a little more responsible out of the sight of the English media.

  37. rico says:

Today was fine thanks Joe, the next two trips won’t be though… 🙁

Nipping out with Fido, back in a bit..

  38. Nickie says:

Just seen a clip of Alexis and Sanogo linking up nicely in training. Very smooth passing build up and goal

  39. Nickie says:

Germans back in training 11th…Remember last year we waited ages for Caz and Ozil to play together….Caz played first couple of game then international break while we waited for Ozil to play. They came back Caz got an ankle injury we waited further. Same this year with Sanchez and Ozil….International break comes in. We won’t see Sanchez and Ozil play together til mid september 🙁 lol

  40. Gunnerdna says:

Good morning all, good post Rico. Just finished watching the Members Day 1st team training session Live on the player which was very boring.

  41. rico says:

Wenger on Frank Lampard’s surprise loan move to their Community Shield opponents.

“If you look at a map, the shortest way from Chelsea to Manchester City is not to fly to New York first,” said the Arsenal manager.

    🙂

  42. potter says:

Did you get my e-mail Rico ? I want an idiots guide to putting a picture on here. I see some people posting videos , how is it done ?

  43. rico says:

Potter, will check now. You can’t post pictures directly into the comments section, at least I have never been able too…But you can post a url link..

That makes it sound like I know what i’m talking about but I don’t honest.. lol

  44. BrainwashedKev says:

Vidal would be a mega signing for those cnuts…

Yet another reason not to let TV go there!

  45. Nickie says:

Wenger has basically ruled out Khedira now. “We have quite a few box-to-box players – @JackWilshere has come back very fit”

This was in response to a Khedira question

  46. Nickie says:

Potter, I think you go to the website, Youtube. There should then be an option to embed that video into a post like this. You just copy the text in the embed link then post the text here as a comment. That should process the video on here

  47. Nickie says:

Yep, you click share tab under the video. Then you select the embed tab within the share option. Copy that text directly to here…

    Then the jobs a gooden

  48. potter says:

  49. rico says:

Athletic Bilbao, FC Copenhagen, Lille, Besiktas and Standard Liege are in the pot for us tomorrow…

    Could do with swerving Besiktas….

  50. bradster says:

We sound bitter. Vidal is great and many wanted him even Wenger. I agree the price is steep but definitely worth 30m at least.

Is sell on value that important if he helps win the league and cups for 2-3 seasons?

Only Wenger wants after sale value. RVP was supposed to be old and done for at 29 when we sold him.

  51. rico says:

£30 million Brad, in a flash, but £47 million is steep, especially if he does have a dodgy knee…

  52. Gunnerdna says:

The panic mode will kick in once the results aren’t favorable. Watching the training this morning and seeing OG12 & YS atrocious finishing from inside the 6yd box is very depressing. AW claimed we have a big squad, but it’s always a good squad that wins the PL. CC is only 19 and every press conference he is cover in a different position, it’s a joke.

  53. frednerk says:

    Afternoon All,
Spot on potter yesterday 11.47 enjoyed the read and the post rico.

Surely southampton want as much as pos for Schneiderlin, why would you say he was for sale.
Wenger has said Khedira deals not on,surely he would say that,
    Khedira is up for sale.
Wengers loves his poker. This time of year.

  54. rico says:

Afternoon fred, hope you are having a good time, thanks re the post.

There will soon be a mad dash in this window, not many weeks left now and I still think AW has a few tricks up his sleeve.

  55. BrainwashedKev says:

Still 25 days to go Rico…

Wenger probably had a few deals set up, all it needs is for him to give the ok.

  56. frednerk says:

Have to say Chambers has shown in the couple of outing at the back that he reads the game well for a youngen, and is very quick over a few yards,at southampton he got up and down the pitch,so recovery would not be a problem for this lad, passing has been good,he has strength and mobility and is tall and commanding and the number one thing wenger loves in a player, first touch.

So is wenger saying to Real and Southampton..Keep your unhappy players….if you want to unload..Thats my offer and to the players you will not be paid more than my players.
Wenger could have all angles covered.

  57. BrainwashedKev says:

Yeah, I think the Sami Khadira deal has left the station…

Khadira wants to walk on a Bosman in 12 months time and I suspect that Gazprom will pay him a small fortune to hook up with the Ordinary One….

  58. BrainwashedKev says:

Not sure about all that nonsense about taking Costa on loan…

Blimey, he wasn’t good enough to get into the worst Brazillian squad in living memory, so why would we want him?

  59. BrainwashedKev says:

As for William Carvalho, I reckon that Wenger has a deal in place, but is gonna wait until after the Charity Shield, before deciding whether to go ahead or not?!

  60. potter says:

Arsenal Football Club can confirm that Johan Djourou has made his move to Hamburg permanent.

    Pravda .com

  61. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

    Evening All…

    Good post, Rico.

Why are fans always averse to selling players to same league rival clubs? Ronaldo, Bale, Fabregas, Modric, Alonso, Suarez, would really have made EPL a better league the years they were no longer here had they ended up with rival EPL teams. But EPL teams instead strengthen the Spanish Liga.

Meanwhile, all German clubs sell their own players within…to improve their own league… why don’t English fans have some level of tolerance that can only help the Three Lions?

Wenger sells to rivals and everyone calls him stupid. What would have been left of the EPL if Wenger had sold RVP, Nasri…outside of England?

If you sell TV to Barcelona, thereby losing 5 mil in the process, Man U will buy elsewhere and could even buy a better player…

  62. rico says:

    Evening Tai.

You don’t help those clubs who are challenging for the top spot in the same country….

  63. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

In other leagues, the FAs reschedule matches of teams involved in UCL to convenient times…in England, it’s like teams playing in the UCL are punished more with odd fixtures, especially when it’s Arsenal…

  64. rico says:

    Absolutely Tai…

Home is where the heart is and I’d much rather we won the PL, FA Cup and League Cup before the CL…

  65. rico says:

We’ve been saying that for a while, I think we quite often get a tricky fixture and usually an away one after our CL matches.

But the FA will always say the PL fixture list is drawn up fairly… Pff!

  66. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

I’d give a limb to just a CL trophy…I’d take 17th position in the league this term, lose all domestic trophies as long as we won the UCL.

  67. Nickie says:

i’d rather win the Premier League than the CL. 38 games to be crowned Champion. None of this silly away goal ruling etc. Just plain win lose or draw. Best team wins, every game as important as the last. Huge rivalries amazing fans.

  68. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

Has this got anything to do with the fact we haven’t really won it and hence wouldn’t care or is this really an honest appraisal of preference?

  69. potter says:

Win your own league first and then everything else is a bonus.

Tai your list of players that have left for Spain could not have played for England anyway and as for Germany those that stay in the fatherland end up at Bayern and the rest of their internationals go abroad. In the main English players don’t leave the country because firstly the pay here is so good and secondly because of the premium put on their transfer fees means that the rest of Europe either can’t or won’t afford them. Who in Europe would have paid the best part of 30 million euros for Lallana or Luke Shaw or even 20 million for Chambers . It only happens in the artificially boosted Premier League where financial sanity went out of the window ages ago.

  70. rico says:

No, nothing to do with not having won it, like Nickie, I’d rather we won the biggest trophy in the country and league in which Arsenal are in. The PL.

    Nickie, how was the dentist?

  71. Rick says:

    Evening Rico and the House.
    Another good read as normal.
Kev a year ago Hamburg signed Djourou on a years loan with the option to buy. I gather they took this option up on Aug2 , so we should be getting a fee.
With Djourou Joining Afobi and Lipman in leaving it looks like Arsene has started his 2nd clearout . I think it is possible that 4 more will leave and he will sign someone before we play the Palace.

  72. Nickie says:

very quick and easy Rico…simple check up, teeth in great shape. Quick clean and polish £18.50 lighter :p lol luckily not a hefty bill

  73. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

    Potter,

Got your point…but then playing against those players makes the English players better and hence improve the quality of the national side. EPL teams shouldn’t readily sell world class players abroad, especially where English players hardly play abroad.

  74. Nickie says:

    Hi Rick

    totally agree,

    Miquel
    Coquelin
    Miyachi
    one of Caz/Pod
    Verm

    to leave

Should bring in plenty of money coupled with our existing transfer funds leaving us a nice chunk for a couple more “quality” signings

  75. Rick says:

    Interesting comments about Champs /L v P/l.
Rico ,Potter you are spot on and this seasons fixturs back you up Rico.
For the first 2 Group games in Sept they are as follows
    13 Sept Man c ( H)
    16 or 17 CL
    20 Sept A Villa (A)

    27 Sept Spuds (H)
    30Sept or 1st oct 2CL

    4 th Oct Chavs (A)
We are away after both games.

  76. rico says:

roger – FA Cup before the CL for me… 🙂

Rick, and we all know those tricky fixtures will be made worse because Bt Sport or Sky will choose to show them live….

  77. potter says:

It’s a kind of vicious circle , many people feel that to produce a better team for the national side there should be certain restrictions on the non British players allowed in a team. Of course decent English players are hard to find and that sort of quotient would push their prices even higher. They believe that the problem is not the import of the Bergkamps or Zolas of this world , it’s the Santos ‘ the Beye , Diame type player , the ones of a lesser standard that are bought in and get in front of developing young players that rarely get the experience by playing. Personally I love watching great players but i also like seeing some of our own making it through. Difficult and I don’t have the answer.

  78. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

Well, I believe you’re as good as the people you compete with…playing against Messi and Ronaldo every week makes a player psychologically assured no other player would be better. Spain’s recent long reign may attest to this. If I was the one deciding, I’d have best players playing in England, challenging English players to struggle more to be at par. I’m sure the Three Lions would be better for it.

  79. rico says:

Trouble is though, the so called ‘lesser clubs’ need to sign ‘Beye, Diame’ kind of players because they can’t afford to pay big transfer fees and big wages so those kind of players will always come to the PL.

Look at the newly promoted clubs, I think they they are snapping up players from overseas because they are cheaper and earning peanuts.

Newcastle are a prime example, that git Pardew once fell out with Wenger because of us having so many French players, but he’s done exactly the same thing because they don’t have the money…

Until transfer fees and wages are capped, I can’t see it changing…

  80. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

Well, I think this season will be positive though…we lost Suarez but Sanchez, Fabregas, Costa, likely Vidal, even Khedira … will only make the League better.

  81. potter says:

They wouldn’t get the chance to play , most managers in the English leagues spend most of their time looking over their shoulders because most chief execs have their knives ready and sharpened. To get English kids the chance to play they need a proper league to play in. In the premier if a manager needs a defender to play against Messi he will make a bee line for an import rather than run the risk of an English kid getting over run and that knife plunging into his neck.

  82. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

I think it’s quite difficult to cap transfer fees…FFP is the nearest to cubing club’s craziness regarding transfers. Like someone pointing out the other day, having to smuggle Lampard to City means FFP is working.

  83. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

Already the FA has taken care of that by foreign quota seal. 25 players …there are injuries and the English player will surely get a chance…the likes of Cahill will always be first choice … Wilshere, Walcott, Chambers, Gibbs, Chamberlain…will always play for Arsenal whoever the opposition line out.

  84. rico says:

Tai, those players won’t make the PL better, they will only make the clubs they play for stronger.

  85. Rick says:

Rico Teo thank you for asking I have had a good day .Had a chat with my Docter who has told that the results they have so far are better then what they expected them to be. I am feeling very positive tonight.

  86. Nickie says:

    🙂 Rico

Winning the home cups mean more to the fans barring the capital 1 because it is special and historical. That’s not to say we discredit the CL it is an amazing cup and i’d love to win it but I’d love to see my team holding up the mightiest of them all, The Barclays Premier League trophy. It gives you bragging rights. you’re the best and no Chelsea, Man u or City can say otherwise. You really earned it to be there.

  87. Nickie says:

Also another point on the away goal rule. How is it fair you go home after scoring the same amount of goals? It’s so pathetic, the best teams adapt to any situation, just because you scored more goals at a different pitch means nothing. Silly rule and ruins the competition

  88. Nickie says:

lol no probs Roger, I haven’t watched it myself. It was just a test for Potter to see how we get videos to post 🙂

  89. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

Any competition has rules … others that win play in same rules…I personally want away goals rule taken out of football…but until it’s done, rules are rules…every club benefits one time or the other.

  90. rico says:

It’s that time for me guys, hens need shutting up and then I need my pillow… 😉

Night all, have a good one…

  91. potter says:

I was trying to get a still photo off of facebook and post it on here, cutting and pasting a video link was not what I was trying to do, Thanks anyway. As i said an idiots guide would be useful.

  92. Rick says:

Potter , I find myself agreeing with every thing you have posted in both the last 2 days. In the same time that I have read your posts I have sen articles by the dwarf and PV4 saying how much they are doing for English football. What utter rubbish . I honestly believe that just like Whisky Face they have no idea how much damage that the present rules are doing.
During the last few days I have been keeping myself busy and have spent time running the rule over which players can play in this years U19 Leage. I find that we have 12 players who are 19 this year.
This means they all become 21 at the same time and if they remain with the club they must be promoted at the same time .
Just how you can do this with a 25 man squade I jhust do not know . but whats more the powers to be do not as well.
I wish I knew the answere.

Rick I love football , I always have ,but what has happened in the prem/sky years has really depressed me. The way that money has taken away the spirit of the game ,and the way that players are no longer developed and shiny new ones are just imported takes away all the things that I grew up with. I went from Sunday football on the marshes to county league to Athenian and Isthmian , for me it stopped there , but you never gave up trying to improve . I look at kids now and just wonder what they aspire to. I never had anyone to look out for my interests apart from my Dad but now they are signed up by Agents and taught to think about money before the game. People like Roman , Mansour , and the other parasites have taken my game away, I have to say that I am glad that I am not starting out now ,I still love my club but even that and the attending the concert bowl we now play in isn’t the same. There used to be humour on the terraces now I see people around me texting during matches indifference rules . I have again renewed my season ticket but I keep wondering how much longer I will continue to do so. I keep wondering if the effort is still really worth it.

Well Nicki, the downside of watching the video was that after putting my housemate through that he made me watch ManUtd 50 bloody goals!

  95. rogerbij says:

Only thing is, they never had Henry of Bergkamp, so naturally we had the more beautiful goals . Highly commended Eric Cantona.

Vermaelen has agreed,in principle, to join Barcelona after talks. Reports claim that negotiation went according to plan. #MUFC #FCB #AFC

  97. rogerbij says:

Bingo Gunner! TV has been great for us, but to earn well on a sale in his final year and and find an eventual successor to Merts is not a bad thing. I know Wenger has a reputation for buying dud defenders, but I have to go back a few seasons now before really finding a dud first team buy, so confidence relatively high we’ll do well finding a replacement. And thank god we have 20 or so days to do it.

  98. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

”Applying my methodology, Alexis Sánchez comes in 2nd, after Messi! Wow, who would’ve thought? He ranked 11th for goals per appearance, 5th for assists per appearance and had the best shots to goals ratio. And Barca *might* actually be willing to sell him. Given that Arsenal needs some power, pace and goals, as well as cover on the wings I would jump up and down if this happened. Transfermarkt suggests that he is valued at £26.4 million – not cheap but at 25 years of age, he is a player in his prime who will retain future sell-on value. My view: do it.”

    Bulls eye!

I went back and saw this in one of the longest articles here but certainly one that keep you glued till very end. I love writers, whose imaginations come real. Apart from the writer himself, how many still remainder that methodical and very professional approach to our striker needs far back in May?

    Morning, Rico, All…

  99. Sukky says:

I think we think need to sign 9players before †̥ђƺ end of this month because
    Giroud-too slow
    Carzola-too short
    Ozil-too weak
    Sanchez-too physical
    Walcott-injury prone
    PM04-last season was a fluke
    Gibbs-too glassy
    Arteta-cant tackle and can’t run
    Poldoski-too playful
    Ramsey-like Marty,last season was a fluke etc

I was at the Chiltern Firehouse last night with a client….it’s the “in” restaurant at the moment!

  101. Gonerjoe says:

Morning all getting ready for the worst possible CL draw later on. It just seems whether it’s the FA cup or league cup it’s always the toughest team left in the draw.
There’s no chance this is fixed is there 😉

  102. bondex says:

Morning all…… wonderful post yesterday Rico, was so busy just didn’t have the time to post a comment. Cant wait for today’s post.

  103. rico says:

No, thank goodness. They will be for the knock-out stages once we come second in the group and then out we go… 😉

    Thanks bondex…

  104. tsgh says:

    Morning Rico and all…

Szczesny was asked “Who would he rather have back, Van Persie or Fabregas?” His answer was quite simply “Özil and Sanchez.”lol

AW can’t seem to forget Sagna leaving the club… in papers this morning he is quoted as saying BS was ‘tapped up’. lol

  105. Adam says:

Lee. I have heard that the food wasn’t great but apparently the place to be seen. I think that Bradley Cooper was ok in Limitless but is incredibly over rated as an actor. Rather like the Chiltern Firehouse apparently.

  106. Adam says:

It is THE gaff though isn’t it? The place to be seen and all that. Do you get to The Wolseley very often? I used to go there quite a bit.

  107. tsgh says:

    AW on our German players

”You have the choice – you get them back very quickly and you lose them in October, or you give them a needed rest to build them up again.”

  108. lee says:

Not been to the Wolsey but the Ledbury is a cracking restaurant (especially if you’re a veggie) We took a client there who is a Jainist and they were very accommodating….. i.e knowledgeable about the use of egg whites when fining wine, which impressed me!

  109. Nickie says:

    Morning,

Thank you Rico for removing that post lol. No one wanted to see me in my Arsenal shirt haha. I had to test it as this is the only place I post to.

How is everyone? Fingers crossed for a favourable draw! 🙂

  110. tsgh says:

It appears CC21 is our new DM…

Arsene Wenger says he hasn’t just bought Calum Chambers for the future, and suggested that his long-term future at the club lies in the much-fabled, much sought-after, defensive midfield position.

Although he may be tasked with filling in at centre-half in the early weeks of the season, the Arsenal manager told the press today that he envisages the former Southampton man playing in midfield.

“He can play a major role because, in what I observe, he has the qualities to impose himself in this part of the team,” he said. “I believe he can play in defensive midfield and that’s where I see him.”

  111. Nickie says:

Not sure how I feel about that Ts. I quite like him in defence. Does he have the technical skills to be able to play CDM

  112. Adam says:

The Wolseley is a Grand Cafe in the French style. I used to like it a lot. Nice atmosphere, not too poncey and the food was very nice. Mrs Adam says that the dressed crab is the finest she has had. Unfortunately, after the incident with the magnum of champagne, I was banned for life though, with my new blue contact lenses, I reckon a I could get back in.

  113. Nickie says:

lol Just got that Ts….It was a bit too early for me to function properly. Can’t wait for my coffee at 10.

I just want Verm gone now, the longer this dwindles on the longer we won’t see a replacement. The longer we will then have to wait for the replacement to integrate. If I was Wenger i’d be pushing this through asap.

  114. rico says:

    🙂 Adam.

Me too re TV, newspaper reports suggest Barca have won the race and we are prepared to loss the extra £5 million Man Utd were prepared to pay.

  115. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

    Ts,

Having seen CC’s calm, strength, pass, runs with the ball, I agree totally that he will be a great DM. My only worry is, at 19…players go out long time if heavily relied on. I remember Fabian Delph’s progress and long layoffs…in Arsenal…Gibbs, Ramsey, Wilshere, Walcott, Chamberlain…

If AW buys a first choice DM…then gradually introduces CC , starts intermittently…that’d be perfect.

  116. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

    Rbj,

I totally enjoyed reading that…as I hadn’t joined HH then, especially when you hit bulls eye. Sanchez is one player, who should have been far greater than he is if he was playing in a team without Messi. let’s hope he claims his top 5 world players’ status with us.

  117. Adam says:

Never get a boy to do a man’s job.
The white heat of the battles to come will either make or break Chambers if that is really what Wenger has in mind. I think it is careless and rather naive to try and make do in this, one of the most important positions in the team. I cannot believe that, after the experience of the last several seasons Wenger is really going to go into the season thus equipped. Remember what happened when he decided that we didn’t need a winger because Ramsey could play there or that Arshavin could play as a striker? To go into the season I adequately equipped with millions and millions in the bank is pure unadulterated folly for me.

  118. rico says:

Celtic back in the CL, their opponents who battered them 6-1, fielded an unregistered player, for 4 minutes… 😛

  119. Nickie says:

Celtic back in CL after Legia fielded and ineligible player.

I hope Wenger doesn’t give Ramsey the armband just yet. It’s a lot of weight on young shoulders plus it’d probably devastate Jack and crush his performances. Per is the main man for me, like someone said 3/4 years Per as captain, great leader. Ramsey will then be 26/27 much more mature, stronger and someone to look up to when Per is finished. Let us not forget how Ramsey captained Wales at a young age, it didn’t do him any favours

  120. rico says:

Totally agree Adam, and I can’t see AW doing that with Chambers. Maybe in a few years time, but not yet.

  121. Nickie says:

Beat me to it Rico 😉

Apparently Man U have pulled out of the deal for Vermaelen because Arsenal wanted a swap deal…Cheeky Wenger. Wonder who the player was

  122. Adam says:

Rico. Nobody knows the Arsenal players as well as Wenger and certainly nobody on the blogs. He sees them in training all the time and knows their physical strengths and limitations. I don’t seek to give him any advice but what I see, from the outside, is that at the moment, this squad is not strong enough when compared to our opponents who we are going to need to overcome this season. I always look at what we could come up with if we have two big injuries and from where I sit this morning, an injury to let’s say Kos and another to Sanchez would be extremely bad news.

  123. rico says:

Agree again Adam, which is why I don’t think we are done in the transfer window.

Up front, in midfield and in defence, we are still short, especially if TV goes which looks likely. Unless AW sees Miquel as being good enough to cover which I hope is not the case.

  124. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

Adam…I think AW refuses to live out of his long-held habit of never doing exactly what he is expected to do. Even kids in kindergarten know what we need…but Wenger will always want everyone to believe he already has what we are screaming for, only we hadn’t the eyes to see it.

  125. Adam says:

Rico. The joker in the pack is certainly Arsene. What we do know is that he is stubborn and rather one-eyed when it comes to certain things. The more the need for a murderously effective DM player, the less likely he is to buy one. Cast your mind back to the fiasco surrounding the hapless Almunia and how long Arsene leg that one roll on for when it would have been relatively inexpensive to address. It cost us. Let’s face it, he could buy the best player for us IF he wanted to. Whether he will or not, nobody really knows. I know who he would like, but I doubt whether he will push the boat out myself.

  126. rico says:

Oh yes, we know he likes to have a joke with the media and history suggests he can be a stubborn and crazy at times with his transfer dealings.

But I still hope that it’s IG doing things and he won’t let AW leave us short. Not this time.
