Tired of the “No Excuses” vibe already?

Mike Hewitt/Getty Images (CNN)

Morning all.

Whilst I think it’s only right for fans and “others” to expect Arsenal to have a better season than last because of the signings the club has made this summer, the “no excuses” headlines and comments made in the media are way off the mark in my opinion.

Mikel Arteta has never been one to make excuses for a bad result or performance, not even when a referee or VAR has stitched us up. Yes, he had a bit of a rant after one particular game against Newcastle, not that anyone could really blame him, but on most occasions he just talks about how and where we can be better.

What does no excuses mean though? That Arsenal have to win the Premier League, Champions League or would a domestic cup satisfy these muppets? Of course a domestic cup wouldn’t satisfy them because they’d still be writing their “Arsenal haven’t won the league for 21 years…..” If Arsenal do by chance win the league, you can bet the goalposts would be moved to having to win the Champions League.

Just because Arsenal have signed seven players this summer it doesn’t mean success is guaranteed. If it was, Man Utd, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest would have won the league in recent years, City wouldn’t have come third last season and they’d have won the Champions League more than the once they have under Guardiola.

Trophies aren’t won just because a club has the most players or have spent the most, they are earned through hard work and a little bit of luck along the way. Good luck I mean like a 50/50 decision going our way instead of in favour of the opposition.

Not taking away what they achieved, the good luck fairies were definitely with Liverpool last season and yesterday, I’m pretty sure they were at Craven Cottage as I’m pretty sure if Havertz, Gyokeres or one of our defenders had shoved an opposition defender as blatantly as Yoro did before scoring Utd’s goal, the goal would have been ruled out.

Instead of just writing easy headlines about Arsenal not having won much over recent years, why not look at the bigger picture to see why because not every answer will be attributed to the manager and/or his players. I suspect that would sit in the “too difficult” tray. I think the writers on Untold Arsenal research their work a whole lot more than most of the football writers who in my opinion, simply express their opinion. An anti Arsenal opinion much of the time I hasten to add.

What if Arsenal don’t win any silverware this season, after all, there is more chance they won’t than they will, purely because of the number of clubs trying to do the same. Not every one can be successful. City, Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal aren’t the only clubs to have strengthened their squads this summer.

Like every other fan, I want to see Arsenal being successful again but that’s not because of anything written by the press, in fact if at all, it’s in spite of them. I just want to see Arsenal being successful because it’s Arsenal. The club we all love.

Catch up in the comments.

    Good Morning Rico and all

A straight to the point post. Well written.

Its a pity that no matter how much reasons there are, those who have an agenda will always find something to comment on.

    Scenarios…..

If we win the EPL the naysayers will say we didnt win the CL
If we win the CL the naysayers will say that its been 21 years since the EPL
If we win it again unbeaten they will say that we had too many draws (remember 2004?? all commented on 12 draws)
If we win both they will say we neglected the cups.
If we win all four they will say that we haven’t made a clean sweep since we did not take part in the charity shield.
If we win all four they will say we did so because there was no competition so it was obvious.
Even if we won the CS as well they will say that we didnt win the Club WC.

So they will always have something to comment.

And yes…..these people can be Arsenal supporters (or so they call themselves)

  2. Carmelsson says:

with regards to the previous post’s comments, yes Dowman may get the reputation for diving however, on all three occasions he was fouled. Against leeds he was touched twice in the same movement. and against Villareal he was fouled while against NUFC he was pushed from behind.

And yes, Gillet would have had to whistle because it was so blatant that he would have faced serious questions if he hadnt because Dowman was trod on and tripped in one movement. And he cannot say he didnt see it because there is VAR and ref is obliged to check for a pen if there is contact.

I couldn’t agree more. How could we replace Arteta yes we could probably get someone with great footballing managerial talent but Arteta is the whole package. He has delivered not just on the field it’s his value of recognising what needs to change across Arsenal the club off the field. So aside from managing the team from a footballing perspective it’s his ability to improve the culture and the family orientated approach to the culture at Arsenal. He respects everyone and all their roles in delivering Arsenal FC to the fans the masses on a global scale. This is what makes him standout from other managers. And other clubs and managers are following his Project he brought to the gunners 5 years ago. Buying youth was about building a team for the future not when he started. Now he’s adding some experience to provide leadership, depth, and balance to the squad and he’s still buying youth for the future and promoting Hale End talent to the first team Max Dowman being the latest prodigy to emerge (as a side point MD is probably worth £80 plus now because that’s how the market works and he’s so young). But we all recognise last season in particular we just didn’t have the quality in our squad depth. When I saw Odegaard and Saka hobble off at the weekend I was far less anxious because I knew we have players who can come in and take their positions. Now we have players who we can turn to fill the gaps in every position. Yes we still need one more left sided attacker but you know I would understand if we cannot afford that last player maybe we can add in January if not next summer nobody across Arsenal and the fan base couldn’t be more happier with our transfers this summer. It’s the media who like to build the narrative and hope people latch on to it and run with it. I think most intelligent Arsenal fans know who we want in charge and don’t buy into its this “it’s this season for silverware or he’s gone” narrative. So I say to the media you can bang that drum all you want but don’t think true Arsenal fans with join in, hopefully it will be filed in the bin along with most media driven stories.

Morning Devil, all and welcome Mike.

Anyone would think the PL race is between Arsenal and Wrexham, it’s ridiculous. It’s tedious too and disrespectful to other PL clubs imo.

  7. rico says:

I’m not Arteta’s biggest fan Mike but I’m not daft enough not to see what he’s done for the club since his arrival. He, along with Edu, the board and the owners, have turned the club around in so many ways. If he and the team can win something this season, it’ll be no more than they all deserve imo

  8. Carmelsson says:

Edu??? he’s not with us anymore Rico. He went and instead of him came Arsenal’s best signing ever….Andrea Berta.

  9. Cicero says:

😎 Good morning Rico, well done for giving us another excellent post, particularly in view of the attraction of a sun drenched beach practically on your doorstep.

Good journalism shoulder depend on truthfulness and not the writer’s prejudices.

    Sorry gotta go!

  10. Obi says:

Hi All. Selling Kiwior for 30m and buying Piero Hincapie for about 50m makes little sense to me. I dont see it, theres no 20m worth of upgrade if you have seen him play at Bayern. An Ecuadorian friend tells me that what makes Hincapie special is he’s terrific when you play 3 at the back.

Btw, these British talking heads are ridiculous. Just out of curiosity, is Arsenal the only team in the EPL that gets corners or every team get them? The opportunity to score from corners is available to all the teams, right?

  11. Cicero says:

Obi, the reason behind our scoring from corners was in response to our lacking a central striker. In order to get a presence in the box it was necessary to move our tall defenders up-field, the only way to do so, without leaving us open to the counterattack was to do so at set pieces. Hence the corner routines, therefore many of our attacking moments were designed to win corners rather than lobbing in crosses to no one in particular.

  12. Carmelsson says:

We have hit a glitch in the Hincapie transfer. Eric Ten Hag has intervened in the Hincapie deal. He won’t sign off on it unless Arteta admits Garnacho was onside

  13. Carmelsson says:

Does anyone here think that Eze will begin the game against Liverpool on the left and Madueke on the right?? Or will it be Martinelli on the left and Madueke on the right??

On which side will Odegaard spray his passes now that his favourite outlet is injured?? Will he continue to do so only on the right or will he mix it now??

Personally I hope Martinelli will begin the game and fingers crossed he scores a goal and give an assist as well.

  14. rico says:

I’ve a horrible feeling Martinelli is on the for sale list. Hope I’m wrong though.. Otherwise, yes, him and Madueke if Saka is ruled out. Will Odegaard be fit though?

  15. Obi says:

I guess they should reconsider spending 130m on a striker and instead get some defenders… The is some comeback.

  16. Carmelsson says:

Porto are close to signing Jakub Kiwior on loan from Arsenal.

The deal will include an obligation to buy of €26million. There will also be a SIGNIFICANT loan fee.

  17. allezkev says:

Sounds like we’re close to getting the £30m (€35m) we wanted from Porto, it’ll be money well spent by the Portuguese club and a good deal for us. Means the bulk of the deal goes into Porto’s accounts for next year, but we can put the whole deal up against what we’ve spent this year – er, I think?

  18. allezkev says:

Zinchenko is the next cab off of the rank, we need to get his wages off of our books, but after him it’s not so desperate I reckon to sell, if Fulham mess about then let’s keep Reiss Nelson I say!

  19. allezkev says:

Albert Lokonga is looking increasingly like we might have to sell him for an ‘undisclosed fee’ plus a percentage of any sell-on profit, maybe Carlos Cuella could be interested, you know, dear old pals jolly old pals.

  20. Cicero says:

    Good morning all.

That idiot Anthony Gordon, after spending the first half running around like a headless chicken on amphetamines, finally copped a red card for an out of control, late and dangerous tackle on Van Dyke. Although the clown with the whistle had to be told it was red not the yellow shown. For once Var got it right. Sadly Gordon will have served his three match ban by the time we next play Newcastle. C’est la vie.

  21. Obi says:

Kev, regarding financial fair play, all monies spent (or gained)for the current season will be counted against the following season taking into account the portion that is pro rated for the future. Which is the reason for club not willing to pay buy outs, or do loans with obligation and Chelsea doing 10 year contracts. Also money today is worth more than money tomorrow, the problem is you ran the risk of future shocks. Arsenal on the other hand, given its reserve/ profitability and future projections is good to spend more of Stan’s money. It’s all accounting irregularities, only small clubs are effected.

  22. rico says:

    David_Ornstein (17/08)

“Arsenal have a lot of PSR headroom, so they could do more, but they’re tight on the UEFA Financial Fair Play rules.” [NBC]

  23. Obi says:

Hi Rico, imho, PSR is harder because it give a strict amount for an assessment period. However, under the FFP, UEFA will allow the owners or their affiliates (Etihad) to cover (put in their own money) certain obligations per assessment period, hence the problem that they have with City and PSG. In reality, for both rules you just need a good accountant every 3 years.

  24. rico says:

Hi Obi, I’m pretty sure the club are red hot on the finances and hopefully they have a good accountant as you suggest. 😜 Must be a financial nightmare though..

  25. allezkev says:

Obi, regarding FFP/PSR I’m still amazed that the club has gone in so big this summer, but I’d imagine that there will be a lot less business over the next three and definitely two transfer windows, although we won’t know what the rules are until next summer.

When one considers the financial chicanery of Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent years it would be a tad rich if UEFA punished Arsenal

  26. Carmelsson says:

Kiwior is in Portugal for the medical. But I cant understand it. Why get rid of kiwior?? he’s a very good reliable defender who knows the system and never let us down. And why do clubs only want our players on loan when the price tag is cheaper than they are actually worth? Porto are getting a very good defender for EUR26 or BP23 when he is worth more.

  27. allezkev says:

Dev, I think he wants to go and it seems that he’s turned down moves to other English clubs which might have got us a better fee.

I guess he fancies a warmer climate?

  28. potter says:

Maybe he has tried England and prefers it elsewhere. Maybe he feels he has to leave for his career and doesn’t want to play against us.
It’s the old chestnut Devil , the premier league is the richest league and when we buy it’s always at premium prices , when we sell however everyone else pleads poverty.

  29. Carmelsson says:

    Good morning everyone.

The week trudges by. Sunday seems near yet at the same time too far away. Cant wait for it

Liverpool have conceded 4 goals already in 2 Premier League games this season. Next weekend they face an attack by Gyokeres, Gabriel Martinelli, Eberechi Eze, Ethan Nwaneri, Max Dowman, Noni Madueke and probably Odegaard. But not Saka. I believe this is one of the games that will decide our PL season.

Fingers crossed we will keep another clean sheet no matter how much added time the ref adds and whatever tricks the opposition get up to.
