Three valuable points. A quick look in the mirror will give you the answer Arsene…

Morning all.

As far as securing third or even second place goes, that was a good result. The performance wasn’t too bad either, well, compared to what we’ve witnessed this year but why can’t Arsenal batter sides when they are there for battering? Last night the match should have been all but over by half-time but again, spurned opportunities were the highlight.

Alexis was the star man with a superb opening goal. He stayed strong against an opponent, turned him and then fired the ball passed Ben Foster. Have to mention the referee too as it would have been so easy to award a free-kick to Arsenal but he allowed the advantage and Arsenal went ahead.

If that was good, his second from a free-kick was equally as good, if not better. Rubbish positioning by Foster but a stunning strike from our little Chilean.

Back to third we went, two points ahead of City, five behind the Totts and ten behind the league leaders.

59000, you're having a laugh Arsenal...
59000, you’re having a laugh Arsenal…

After the match, Arsene Wenger was asked why he thought the stadium was missing so many fans:

It was a special night as well, a Thursday night, and I don’t know if you are intelligent enough, nor am I, to detect exactly why everybody that did not turn up tonight did not turn up.

I believe we dominated from the start to the last minute and in fact, was what we did in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Overall I believe the quality of our game was very good. Maybe, we could have scored more goals.

Come and support the team. If you love football, you go out there and I think you see quality football.

Why can’t he just be honest as if he was, maybe fans would be more forgiving and understanding. Why not just admit that since the turn of the year (insert any year since 2007) something is not right and as much as he’s trying to rectify it, it’s tough. To suggest fans should turn up if they want to see quality football is not only misleading but it’s a fib. Arsenal are not playing quality football, not all the time, in fact not very often and a 2-0 victory over a really average West Brom side, is not the time to be talking about the quality football Arsenal are playing imo.

As for the reason fans stayed away, well look in the mirror Arsene, because perhaps you’ll find the answer staring right back at you……

    Morning all.
Arsene is at his best lol.
Micko, please don’t give me this “out of respect” line.
You’ve had shots at me on a near daily basis for months and you say there’s no malice!
I ask a genuine question as a gain you take a shot, yet when I ask you to back your words, Yu come back with that crap?
    Grow up champ.
For the record, here is exactly a what you said-“sometimes I think you don’t take a blind bit of notice of Scott, the stadium is half full not half empty ” in response to my question of what, if anything happened at the 75th minute as I’d heard there’d be a walk out.
I said nothing if the attendance yet you try this on?
You can’t admit to being wrong so go down the “out of respect” line.
Respect is a two way street, yet your little snide remarks don’t show much lately.
    Who luvs ya baby?

    Spot on Rico. Spot on.
    The mirror never lies!
A friend? Told me at the village beacon that Arsenal were losing 2-1, I’d seen the first goal, the dreadful thing was that I believed him! Nothing where Arsenal results are concerned surprises me, any scoreline is plausible. In a nut shell that’s the current state of the Arsenal brand! Who knows how they’re going to play, brilliant or crap. No consistency. Loads of fear.lack of responsibility. Etc. Etc.
All Wenger’s fault? He’s the coach, he gives the orders. He prepares the team. He picks and subs the team. So who’s at fault? It can only be Wenger.

As for the missing millions. Easy peasy Mr Wenger. We are not cash rich, well not so much as we can spunk £100 a time or more to watch anaemic displays of your brand of football and feel grateful that you have prepared the love of my life in such an inept way. A few more absentees to consolidate the point would not come amiss.

Morning all. A little overcast today. No surprise there, then!

  3. Adam says:

Rico. The actual attendance figures tell only half the story. I have never seen so many new faces at a game. Virtually none of the usual crowd were there last night. But it did give an opportunity for a lot of new people to come and savour the atmosphere of a match night. So, although some seats were filled, most ST holders (I would say the majority from what was happening near me) stayed away.
I have never seen Arsene on his feet so much during a game though. It was notable.

  4. bradster says:

    Morning all,

Yes we dominated WBA but they didn’t double park the bus, not many teams allow us that much time and space and tackle us so gently.

Another turning point would’ve been McAuley’s header that hit the bar. At 1-1 I think the yips would’ve been back in our game and we would’ve struggled.

Giroud was strong last night and played well. Looks rusty with regards to finishing.

  5. Steve says:

The fans have every right to boycott games – after all the team and the manager only seem to turn up for games occasionally. As for respect, the club don’t even recognize the concept of fans. To the owner and management of Arsenal those that go to matches are just customers, who are not entitled to opinions or ambitions.

  6. Adam says:

I think so Rico but the newbies don’t make much noise. The two blokes next to me were Mancs in town on business. Interesting to hear their views. They liked Elneny and his action-man approach and found Giroud amusing. 🙂

  7. rico says:

Agree Steve and it’s better than booing imo, Kroenke won’t hear booing..

I would have too Wavy, that would be so typical of Arsenal..

  8. rico says:

Adam, I reckon the microphones were turned up a level last night as on TV, the fans were loud…

Not sure I’d used the word amusing for Giroud… 😉

  9. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Monring boss and peeps.

Yes it was a good three points, a clean sheet and a better performance than some of this year.

    Was I satisfied??? No

2-0 should have easily been 5/6-0. and the fact that it had to be Alexis who got both goals did not go down well with me either. I would have loved someone else to get it, like Aaron, Elneny, Bellerin, Ozil. I like goals to be shared around the team not from one likely source.

The defence is still not at ease when under pressure and I had the feeling that if WBA really wanted it they would have got at least one.

  10. Hell Raising Devil says:

Now that is a fekking good idea……why don’t they do microphones inbuilt with every seat??? not on the away fans section though. but in the AFC supporters section. that would magnify whatever every one says.

    that would be ear shattering.

  11. frednerk says:

    Morning All
Watch a bit of the spuds game the other night
    in a bar in spain
Spuds scored everyone but me(wife) jumped up
Went to the same bar last night
we scored I was the only one jumping up
What is happening at the home games
I think is happening all over the place
If anything is boring with our club
    its because of one man.
Maybe if you live on another planet
you could pretend its something else?

  12. scottfromoz says:

The TV coverage I watched hardly showed the crowd at all, which is why I asked about the predicted walk out.
Now I know the attendance was right down, it makes sense.

  13. bradster says:

I’m sure the average parts you saw of Giroud was his finishing which I agree is way off. The rest of his game was tops though, he linked up well, held the central defenders off well and brought the other players into the game. Defensively he made a few good clearing headers and marked well in our box.

Ozil hasn’t scored much, that’s why he doesn’t make it to the PFA team. De Bruine, Mahrez, Coutinho, Payet and a few more number 10’s score goals and assist and get noticed for the team. Players like Ozil and Erikssen do not get noticed because they only assist.

  14. rico says:

Don’t tell Arsene that Brad, he’ll play Oliie at centre-back.. lol

Seriously, maybe I’m being harsh as I was judging him on his attacking play, well, his finishing really…

  15. Intolerant Kev says:

That’s an interesting piece from the Mirror, Rico, although I ain’t sure about the guy writing it…

I’m not sure how he would have coped with watching Arsenal circa: 1973/74 to 1985/86…???

Agree with him regarding Dein, it’s been a steady decline in ambition since…

  16. Intolerant Kev says:

Adam, so you made a lot of new friends yesterday evening… ?

    I hope they weren’t tourists, perish the thought… ?

  17. Lee says:

In two seasons Ozil created 269 chances, our world class strikers only scored 32 of them.

Let that sink in for a moment.

    That’s fucking embarrassing!!!

  18. Hell Raising Devil says:

that is a whopping 5 chances per game. Imagine he had TH14 or Inzaghi…or Baggio….or Pires…or Freddie.

How many would they have scored???

we would have won every game he played 4-0 or 5-0

  19. potter says:

Scott you asked me a question yesterday it was :- but wouldn’t it be better if they did have a target, for want of a better term?.A better team is exactly what they want , the trouble is they have lost faith with the club’s ,be it the board, the majority shareholder or the manager’s ability to provide it.

  20. gmv8 says:

Heard the classic anti – Kroenke chant at the match last night, I can’t think of any other Premiership club owner or majority shareholder, who don’t care about their club – Leicester and Spud owners certainly do. I would even take Mike Ashley in preference to him.

  21. gmv8 says:

Ok – maybe all this benevolence is due to the drop looming very large at the moment, but at least he has the guts, no pun intended, to turn up and listen to the fans.

  22. Micko says:

Scott, get over yourself, your boring, it’s not all about you you know !

rico, that’s the last time I tell you to be more positive on a match day lol !

  23. rico says:

Micko, like I said to Scott, please just drop it. Ignoring each other is probably the best thing…

I promise to be more positive from now on, honest. Lol

  24. scottfromoz says:

Potter, fair enough, but I just meant directing their protest at someone, or something particular, rather than just a blanket protest.
I’d say targeting Stan might get the message through better than anything else.
Kev, a of us look like heading over next season with our sons-going to try and arrange a few trials for the boys, so get a mini bus for us lol

  25. scottfromoz says:

    Read this elsewhere…..
“well said****, season ticket holder since 1972 best football i have ever watched is since wenger took charge i support the team always and forever if we win a trophy great if we dont there are 92 other teams who have not won anything either glory hunters fuck off and support someone else .no doubt some so called supporters are now going to have a pop at me do i care no because they are not supporters they are glory hunters”.
Seems plenty of old school fans still appreciate the man.
So since he has sent more money on Arsenal than myself, and probably anyone else here, and is seemingly North London born and bred, so no tourist, is it fair to label him delusional, naive or anything else derogatory??
No, this is not one man out.
Rightly or wrongly, Wenger still has a lot more support than his detractors like to think, and from
long term, staunch supporters of the club.
I see both sides, so don’t agree with his use of the glory hunters as a description of all those against Wenger, but as all AKB’s are described as delusional and naive, I guess we could agree the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Opinions, if offered from a position of passion and using logic, should be respected.
This gent speaks from the heart.

  26. rico says:

Scott, I think whoever wrote that might be ‘deluded’ (his/her word) as there aren’t so many fans in support of the manager as he thinks imo.

    Morning to you and all..

  27. rico says:

Adam, Can’t see Ox being sold unless AW really does want Payet but he doesn’t often do swap deals does he, certainly not after the Gallas/Cole one which still cheeses me off..

  28. rico says:

Sure was Adam. Not sure why the club just didn’t pay Cole what he had allegedly been promised..

    Mourinho wasn’t it…?

  29. Lee says:

“You want your fans to be enthusiastic, and we are not playing to avoid relegation,” he said.

“Ideally you want fans to be happy and I think they can be very proud of a lot at this club.

“We want them to be behind the team, to be proud of the club and the values and consistent achievement of the club.”

“It is not enough, and we can understand that, but that doesn’t stop us from performing, the top level of sport is to master all situations.”

Maybe if we had been in the mix for the title this season the crowd at the Emirates might of been more voiciferous?!? Talk about deflecting his own inadequacies, I’m sick to the back teeth of the bloke!
Thanks for the memories but they were ages ago, your stale and need to go!

At least he’s signed a lucrative deal with a French TV channel to comment on the Euros this summer!

  30. Micko says:

No long winded post all about me this morning, how refreshing !

Interview with Bellerin coming up shortly on Soccer AM for anyone interested.

    Morning all.
