Not a lot of news to write about this morning.
Sol Campbell called time on his playing career yesterday and Theo Walcott told us what many fans have been trying to tell him for a while:
At times people just expect me to knock the ball and run but it is not as easy as you think to be honest. As soon as you start doing that, the defender knows what you are doing every time. You need to change it because you can’t just be one-dimensional.
I am always going to be known for pace, I know that but the next step is the finishing. I have a lot of assists this season but I don’t think I am ever going to lose that.
New signing Lukas Podolski reckons he is the man to finally win us a trophy.
The target must be to win titles over the next couple of years. That is a given when you join a club like Arsenal, and I believe I can help make it happen. Arsenal are a good fit for me, and that’s why I didn’t consider the other offers.
Other than that, most of the newspapers are tipping Jan Vertonghen to become a Spurz player next season, M’Vila to not sign because of his brush with the law and Arshavin to leave us in the summer. Well we don’t know if any of that is true.
Newcastle and Spurz both pulled off away wins last night to keep them hot on our tails for third place but it’s still in our hands, beat Norwich and WBA and we can’t be overtaken so that’s that.
Arsene Wenger is obviously still reeling over a few things from this season:
What you want is a system that is fair and a system that does justice for football. There are a lot of things that work very, very well but my main concern is that there is friction between the authority of the referee and justice in football.
That is a grey area at the moment that has to be explored. You have to respect the referee, respect the difficulty of his job, but also put justice in the game above the referee’s authority.
Basically we are in the position at the moment where if somebody takes a player’s leg off, if the referee has seen it and misjudged it, the player gets away with it. For me that is not acceptable.
If you love football you want justice to prevail. How can it be right that Shaun Derry is suspended and Mario Balotelli isn’t?
Even if each case might make sense individually when they are explained, when you put the whole picture together you have to say it’s not common sense. So there is something missing from the cohesion of the justice system.
I am convinced that a committee with a supreme authority – an ethics committee – could rule on some cases, and make sure justice is done. They should have the power after games, in exceptional circumstances, to make a decision above the referee. Then the system would be perfect.
Amen to that Arsene….
Have a good day all….
We haven’t made another signing yet?!
WENGER OUT!! 😉
Morning all,
Its getting tight for that 3rd spot, who will bottle it……?
If he want’s a fairer system of punishment he might drop down to spec savers also. It’s embarrassing how little he sees when our own players do wrong. Don’t disagree with him though, the disciplinary system is seriously flawed and needs a major overhaul.
😆 Romford
Some in Holland reckon that Verts will be announced on Monday, after he gets the player of the season award 😉
Back in ten, off to sort the chickens out…
Has Podolski ever won a trophy?
Morning Gents
Well what a wondergoal from Papiss last night Amazing!!
The flids are soo close that there sniffing ours butts.
And if rumours are to be true Vertonghen seems to be heading to white shite lane! 🙁
Fingers crossd there – some reports are saying that Vert is a Spurs fan, not sure about the validity of that statement though.
Papiss Cisse is an absolute demon – that second goal :O
Evening all.
Wengers right, the review system as it stands is just crap.
Podolski has all the right intentions,so that makes me believe he will succeed.
We know he knocked back a lot mire money,so he’s here for the right reasons.
Theo….he’s a bloody enigma.
Even those comments are enigmatic.
I guess he at least acknowledged his weakness….that’s a start.
Nice post Rico….simple, yet to the point.
Vertonghen to Spuds,no way known.
They’ll be losing big players over the summer, and they’ve had their run at us.
He will be ours.
CB,what has that got to do with anything at all???
He hasn’t said HE will win us a trophy,he said he thinks he can help us win them.
morning all…
Cisses second goal was incredible, but an incredible fluke.
However,it was a fluke that our guys too often dont attempt!
That’s why I loved Artetas freekick….it showed what you can do if you have a go.
Cisses was like Crouches goal a few weeks back….if they tried it again 100 times, they couldn’t do it,but they had a go.
you seen this…??
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/sportvideo/footballvideo/9242669/Fiorentina-coach-Delio-Rossi-attacks-his-own-player-during-Serie-A-match.html
un real……….
Yea saw the video for de rossi hitting that dude lol!!
Maybe mancini would of taken notes for when teves and balo go awol next 😛
Cisse’s was even better because of the angle he was coming from and the way he came onto it. To try that sort of audacious thing with the keeper on his line is magnificient.
Crouch’s was a lot more hit and hope.
The manager just found out the guy was shagging his wife!!!!
morning rico, housers
3 is the magic number as the chavs might just win the CL, so there is no room for complacency in the next too games, I think westbrom and Roy will be up for it, he wouldn’t want to leave on a loosing note would he!? so that one will be a tough one. Lets win the home game 1st and then worry about WBA.
Cisse 1st goal was spectacular the second one is ..well.. just outragous! shame that Pardew brick had to celebrate it though!
up the arse..nal.
RP,both were hit and hope.
Again,if you don’t try,you’ll never know.
His first goal was pure brilliance.
@Scott From Oz Look at the title of the post. If he is a proven trophy winner then that has to be a positive for me. I don’t know if he has, just asking the question.
CB,the post is based on some comments Podolski made.
He didn’t come across as arrogant or cocky, which is great, but he genuinely seems excited to be coming.
Just checked CB,and it looks as if he was part of Bayerns winning squad twice.
I wouldn’t read too much into that though,as he didn’t really hit his straps there at all,so probably wasn’t a major player in that time.
What about the ladies matty 😉
I don’t think Podolski is being arrogant, he turned down both Milan clubs and just wanted to join us and help us win trophies in the future…
What else is he meant to say, he wants to help us secure a place in Europa???
Not convinced we needed Vertogen. Who willbhe replace? Vermallen??
Arsene suggestion is very good. An ethics committee will keep the officials on their toes. They will have to account, like eveyone else for their action or inaction. especially now that they are being paid handsomely for their efforts, and the ever present danger of officials being bent, this type of committee will be timely.
good morning everyone, i read this morning, that De Boer is urging vertonghen to sign for Barca!
KC,I’m leaning more towards him than M’Villa.
Vertonghen can play CB,LB or DM.
I reckon TV5 or Kozzer could also play DM.
We would have some great options.
Scott,
I’d normally be inclined to agree – but look at Cisse’s conversion rate, it’s the highest in Europe!
He shoots with his laces, sidefoot and outside of his foot. The variety of goals he scores is fantastic. True steal for Newcastle. They deserve 4th to be fair.
Great to see Fabrice back at the ground.
Lovely to see Muamba back – shame they couldn’t stop Spurs though.
Rossi – what a numpty….
RP,I’m not for one second underestimating his ability, but that second one, from that angle, that distance….it was flukey.
All credit to him for taking it on.
Thats my major point though,I guys should take more long distance shots, especially against sides sitting deep in defence.
I thought Fabrice would give Bolton a huge lift and they’d win but it seems Arry has got his mojo back, shame the FA didn’t hang a couple more weeks and keep him dangling….
Is bent going to be playing on sunday??
No Lee, don’t think so…
Annoyingly – he’d have loved to have beaten that lot….
Morning all, nice one Rico.
Let me run this past you, England manager’s job comes up and word is out that the FA want Redcrapp he hesitates then gives his conditions pay off his contract employ all his helpers talk of about 30 mill FA gulp and decide to pressureise him Spuds 10 point lead deminishes and arry is looking bad lead dissapears but Arrys demands are still to high public all for Arry and FA are worried about the dosh, FA see Roy of the rovers who will be a lot cheaper decide on him with the understanding of Arry FA help spuds to CL at the expense of Arsenal as compensation.
M.villa is first choice it may be reported that we’re close to signing J.V but do not buy into that it is very unlikely we will sign him
Steve,I said last night we have our destiny in our own hands.
I know what you’re saying, but we did all the hard work to get to third,if we blow it now,we’ve nobody else to blame.
Steve, get 6 points and the f.a can go fck themselves!!
Why not,Font?
Our Dutch members seem pretty confident its a done deal.
What’s your info?
Lee,and so can ‘arry.
Thats not what i’m thinking Scott, referee’s could take it out of our hands. Last night in Spuds game Gallas handball’s in the box only to get a corner which results in a goal, then another hanball and clear foul at the other end and ref waves play on, i don’t believe it is in our hands.
Perhaps your right and i’m paranoid 🙂
It’s fair to say i’m not confident about our next two games. We only have ourselves to blame though if we don’t finish third.
Steve,
A cunning theory…..
Vertonghen looks a great player and will do well wherever he goes, but I don’t think it will be us.
Wenger has Squillacci and JD on fat contracts and nobody else would want to buy them. Wenger’s business model won’t allow him to buy replacements for players that haven’t left. That’s why we always look like rabbits in headlights when the transfer window comes round.
(In terms of this business model Podolski is a replacement for Arshavin).
The font, until any player is confirmed, stories are just stories…
Lee, i echo that…..
Romford – nor am i…..
Another conspiracy theory, StevePalmer, ?????
Could it perhaps be more likely that most of the refs in the EPL aren’t competent.
We should’ve sealed third a couple weeks ago.
At the moment our midfield has no balance and we only have one source for our goals.
We need to go out all guns blazing. I’d be tempted to start both The Ox and Gervinho against Norwich on Saturday. Their defence is very slow and we can stretch them out wide.
I’d also be tempted to drop Rosicky deeper and play Ramsey further forward. Rosicky recycles the ball a lot quicker and we are going to need to move the ball about at speed to open them up.
The thing that works in our favour is that both Norwich and WBA have nothing to play for so they may go for it a bit more.
Maybe your right stevieboy only time will tell
I read somewhere yesterday that Man City fans are up in arms because their game at Newcastle will be refereed by Howard Webb !
Are we all paranoid ?
Morning all,
Ethics? in football? Is he mad? Football is run by FIFA, EUFA and The FA. If they all got together they couldn’t manage to spell the word let alone have a clue what it means. Great idea but Arsene, reveillez et sens le cafe.
Squlli is on the way out the door steve..
It’s ironic that any player linked with Arsenal is treated with cynicism by Goonwrs, yet as soon as said player is linked elsewhere, plenty choose to believe it.
Just saying……
Tbh, i don’t care who wins the PL, as long as it’s not Nasri 😉
No info scott just an opinion we have koz verm who are almost identical players who can play in a multitude of positions and mvilla in my opinion is what were missing
Vela scored again then, another rise in his value….
What you trying to say Billboy 😉
Fair enough Font.
I wasn’t trying to put you on the spot, just wondering if you’d heard anything.
Hey,why not grab both?
Especially if we can offload Squillaci.
Rico,I think he’s hinting their corrupt.
That’s scandalous,Billboy,just scandalous.
Scott –
the last 4/5 years of transfer windows for us is the reason for that, loads of rumours and we sign very little….
Blame Arsenal for our lack of confidence when it comes to signings…
I know Rico, but if the Podolski signing doesn’t give us reason to think the clubs attitude has changed, nothing will.
I would also think we still have a chance with Eden hazard wengers been on the case for about 3 years I do not think it will be about money with him it will be the team that suites his play in that department we will be top of the list on the negative every top club in the world is looking at him
If Wenger wants Hazard enough,I think he will spend the cash.
Thanks for that Rico. Can I have your word on that ?
Strangely, for a season which began so poorly its looks like we are all going to be sitting on squeaky bums right to the end. All of us, that is, except Stoke City fans, who don’t really have an appreciation of football anyway.
Scott – I know, was being ironic 🙂
I’d put my mortgage on him being out the door in the summer Steve, either sold, given away or loaned for his final seasons contract…
I can safely say Scott if the price is £35million and hazard agrees to join then we will pay the money it’s a no brainer at his age his sell on value will be enormous wildly tipped to be one of the best players in the world in a few years time lets just hope he wants to join us
Hazard is worse than Nasri in my opinion. Why would you want a player who whores himself out while still being contracted to Lille??
He has no respect at all for he’s current employee’s.The guy lacks class, something we all berate nasri for.
Morning everyone sorry
Podolski is only a fraction of what we need Scott, 3 more signings and fans might be a little less sceptic..
Mr A, is it Hazard or his agent though, don’t believe all you read that he’s supposed to have said… Mind you, can’t see us signing Hazard anyway…
The font – i disagree there, our club wouldn’t spend £35M on one player imho….
Your having a laugh mr arsenal if we had a vote on who wanted hazard at the club it would be 99.9 in favour
Wasn’t it Lille who wanted Park last summer, maybe we naffed them off so much they wouldn’t sell to us anymore anyway 😉
Mr A,I have said this a few times, and not one person has disputed it.
Vertonghen has said he has given his agent a list if clubs he’s willing to join.
Vertonghen has been asked about certain clubs, and always given respectful answers.
Hazard has done EXACTLY the same thing.
Vertonghen is wanted by everyone.
Hazard us a whore.
Please explain this, because I’m buggered if I know how you can differentiate.
Its a fact that journos have asked Hazard what he thinks of certain clubs being interested in him.
He simply says they’re great clubs, and it would be an honour to play for them.
What exactly should he say????
I only use Vertonghen as an example, but M’Villa has done it,Podolski was respectful to a few clubs mentioned…….every player does it.
Give Hazard a break.
Rico,we did bid over 30 million for Gotze…fact.
That came from Arsenal and the Germans.
RICO they say it’s all about wenger the board not wanting to spend the money that’s the biggest myth or contradiction if we can sign a player who undoubted will do a nasri if you believe mr arsenal make the club tens of millions if you buy into the theory that it is all about the money (which I do not) then we will defo pay the money
I honestly think Wenger sets a fee he believes a players worth and that’s it,no going over that figure.
Rico,I re kon.Lille will take 35 million from whoever pays it.
I choose not to believe that Scott, all paper stories and i take them all with a pinch of salt…
Morning all,
Two games to go and we’re spluttering over the line, it’s no coincidence we haven’t won since Arteta got injured, think AK mentioned it the other week, we haven’t won a game this season when he’s been out, now we have to win 2 in a row, more than do-able but have to dig deep, no more pussy footing about like we’ve been doing the last few weeks.
Micko – spot on, shows what a signing he has proved to be..
3rd is our to win still, if that isn’t enough to get the best out of our side for 180 minutes then we are in deep do do…
Dream on Scott, over 30 million fact, my arse.
Maybe they will Scott, but I have a feeling Citeh will just outbid, all depends on where the player wants to go I guess and if that clubs pays what Lille want….
Please before you think i’m going off hearsay then go on youtube and type where next for Hazard and you will see.
So it’s ok to hate on Nasri for leaving us the way we did and yet we want a guy who is doing worse than Nasri and you want him ok.
The font – what makes you think that, Wenger has said on numerous occassions that he/the club will not pay inflated prices for players, it’s no myth, it’s reality….
Have i also said that our very own Gervinho out shone him last season, when they where both were at Lille by scoring more goal’s and assist’s then Eden??
I just don’t share everyone’s hype over the guy.
Mr A – I’m not sure when Hazards contract expires, it could just be that its next summer, maybe Lille have accepted he will move on and wants to move on to better himself..
Don’t forget that most of what we read/hear comes from agents, not from the player himself.
His agent is no doubt touting his player around to get him the best deal….
One minute he say’s im joining the spud’s,then it’s Arsenal, then he’s going Real, then manchester intrigues him.Don’t you think he should have a bit more respect for Lille??
Micko,you’re entitled to be wrong.
Mr A,every player does it….its all media spin.
Hazard was signing for us,the Real, then Barca, then AC Milan,Then Spuds, then us,then Utd,then Citeh, then us……each turn,he was quoted as saying how it would be great to play for the club.
Media spin.
Mr A,he has never, ever said he’s joining any club, that’s just wrong.
Mr A – Gervinho is three years older than Hazard, he should be further forward in his career – and Gervinho has been pretty poor for us this season….
Have you seen the video with him in?? -Where next for Hazard??
I’m still convinced Gervinho has about five gears to go up.
I’m always an advocate of giving a foreign player a year to adjust to the league. Judge him next year.
People have short memories. Henry and Pires didn’t adapt straight away either.
I watched a lot of Gervinho at Lille, and as Mr A points out, he was a lot more impressive than Hazard in a lot of games.
It is all media spin, just as the story about us offering £30M for Hazard last summer…
Scott he has said things along them lines. What he is doing is worse than what Nasri did to us.How can we hate on one man and then laud the other guy for doing the same thing???
That’s hypocritical in my opinion.
Romford, agree re giving players from overseas a season to settle, just why i wish we could sign a few more from the PL..
I agree on Gervinho, and hope he’s given the time to show how good he is.
I want him to take players on more and pull the trigger.
Even when he shoots, its with little confidence.
He coukd be sensational for us.
Bang on romford pele.
Have a look at all the quotes he has made, they are all from the player himself. He would come and just see us as a stepping stone anyway.
I’d rather us bid for kagawa.
Mr Arsenal – where has Hazard himself actually said all this, you sure it’s not just his agent?
Mr A,what’s hypocritical is singling out Hazard when all players do it.
I hate,Nasri for being a grubby liar.
He said he wasn’t leaving for money.
Why is it when offered 90k a week he asked for 120????
If he’d said he was taking the cash, fine,at least he’d have been honest.
Hazard was with Vieira on Monday night at the Etihad, maybe that solves that then 😛
Just admit it scott, wenger heard there was a brilliant 19 year old creative midfielder at Dormund and came back with the wrong one.
Mr A,just one point here,I’m not suggesting Hazard is the answer to our prayers.
He’s a great player and will get better, but there’s definitely other options out there.
Scott ok players want to leave and yes Nasri lied, but was he talking about other clubs when he was at Arsenal???
Don’t all players say they are not leaving for money reasons, knowing full well that’s all they are really after??
Cesc aside that is…..
So using that logic,Vertonghen is ours Rico.
No Scott, until afc announce we have signed him he could go anywhere…
Mr A,his agent was.
Rico,I’m not saying players dont do it,just saying why I can’t stand Nasri.
Mr A – what i thought funny though, Nasri really wanted to join Fergie…..
And Mr A can’t stand Hazard Scott…. Done, onwards and upwards eh….
Hang on Rico, you said the question us answered on Hazard as he was at their ground…..Vertonghen was at ours not long ago.
Read my comment again Scott, what does it actually say 🙂
Scott i’m just not fed all on the hype mate.
I just don’t want another playing using Arsenal as some bit part club.
There’s just something i don’t quite like about him.
I’m not gonna lie and say he dose not have talent thou.We all want what’s right for afc aye.
Micko – just seen your 11.59 😆
I saw that from Micko…..he’s I’d into Alans seat while my Aussie mates not here lol.
Rico, your 11.59 suggests Hazard being at Etihad means he will go to Citeh.
Using your logic,Vertonghen will come to us.
I was talking with my friend about this and sometimes I think Wenger coaches certain attributes out of players.
Gervinho’s best asset is his dribbling ability. Honestly, him and Hazard were making mince meat of so many defences in Ligue 1 last season – and that is a pretty defensive league.
Bar the first few months, Gervinho hasn’t really taken on his man – maybe the ACON had an adverse effect on him too.
I really think we should play a wide 433 with the wing forwards hugging the touch line. That will free up space in the middle, making it less congested and would make the team as a whole less predictable.
Anyway, i’m still convinced Gervinho will be a major success – if he doesn’t have a bigger impact next season, i’ll eat my hat.
He’s going to be world class Mr A, if we got him he’d be a great signing – whether he stays for years or moves on after a couple no-one knows but if we start winning things with him on board, why would he want to leave….
Other than money reasons of course but then that’s what most seem to want these days, bigger wages….
To be fair Mr A, if Arsenal were winning tophies, people wouldn’t be using us as a stepping stone. Wenger has to take some of the blame for that.
No it doesn’t really Scott, at the end of my comment is a big smile, it’s irony, nothing more……
You chose to read it the way you did 😉
Vertonghen to Barca, RVP to Madrid, Higuain to Chelsea, kaka to AC Millan, Drogba to PSG. M’vila to Arsenal, Modric to United,
that’s my bet, I am confident that I will be 100 thousands richer next season!
I hope so re Gervinho Romford as right now he resembles Chamuck a bit too much….
How much you bet on that Rokabox ….
Well its not an exact science deciphering the written comment…its near impossible.
We’ve all been misinterpreted.
Keys hope AFC.com announce Vertonghen soon, hey.
What a start that sound be.
I think if he’s given a chance and we play to his strengths, he’ll thrive. Whether that happens remains to be seen though.
I’m not convinced Wenger will change the formation next season and if that’s the case, Podolski will start ahead of Gervinho.
I think he could be world class if he choose’s the right club. But i bet he goes to the team where he’s getting the most money.(manchester)
I really want to see if this guy lives up to the hype.
£35million for Micky Hazard…..???!
Your having a larf…
Romford you could be right on that i hate to say.
Charlie 😆
You could buy that geezer for £35 😉
But it shows that not all comments are what others read into them…
I hope we start playing 442 Romford and get at teams a bit more…
Pod and RvP – 60 goals between them 🙂
Room for one more on Alan’s seat Kev, you naughty naughty boy.
Hi Charlie, any news from the city?
Gervinhos not a bad option off the bench….imagine what he could do to tired defenders???
I know Rico.
We’ve all suffered it,and we are all guilty of it.
AK,I heard you’ve offered to pay for Hazards airfare over
Afternoon Gooners.
Afternoon Rico. The City is wet and miserable.
Talking of miserable, where’s Wath… 😀
Mick, moi, naughty?
Nah, you got the wrong guy there.
Gotta say that i sympathise with MrA’s view on Hazard.
Talented player, yes!
Loyal player, no!
He would just be passing through.
I still prefer Gotze.
Maybe next season for him…?
Scott, nevermind Hazard mate. Were having a whip~round to send Stan over there…
Gotze has shown absolutely no interest in Arsenal at all….how do we read that?
I don’t know,its a game,and the players are mostly shonky,and that’s just HH lol.
Seriously, you have to feel for managers having to deal with players and their agents must be a demoralising, frustrating experience.
That’s just bloody Nasty AK.
Gloves are off now champ lol.
Thats good for you Charlie, wet and miserable 😉
😆 re Wath….
I too understand where Mr A is coming from….
Im off guys, catch you all later.
If hazard is supposed to be worth £35 M, how much will Gotze be valued at after the Euros if he has a good one… £50M ??
Who’s got more attitude, Stan or Eden, my money would be on stan, he ‘d chew him up and spit him out.
Night Scott
Stan? as in goonster ….?
if so, my money is on stan….
I like the fact that Gotze decided to stay with his home~town club for another year, maybe two.
Shows he isn’t just money motivated and may just enjoy living in his home town and playing for the club he supports.
Scott, Stan is on the plane.
See ya lata Digger.
Henri Lansbury will seek showdown talks with Arsene Wenger before deciding whether to sign a new contract at Arsenal or hand in a transfer request.
The youth team graduate has spent the past season on loan at West Ham but will return after the play-offs desperate to know whether he has a future at the Emirates.
Lansbury was persuaded not to leave the club last summer, but it is thought Arsenal want him to sign a new deal as he has just one year left on his current contract.
The England Under-21 international is keen to know whether he has a realistic chance of breaking into Wenger’s first-team, though, and is understood to be likely to request a transfer rather than sign a contract extension and go out on loan for a fifth successive season.
And with the likes of Swansea, Norwich and Reading likely to be interested if Lansbury was available at the right price, the 21-year-old could have his pick of clubs if Wenger does not give him the assurances he wants.
Charlie – i can see him staying in Germany for his entire career…
Gervinho is more than a bench option though – he really should be aiming to be a match winner for us.
With regards to 442 Rico, i’m not opposed to it but like i’ve told many others, we are so stocked in CM we’d have to let about three/four players go.
CM options:
Diaby
Song
Wilshere
Ramsey
Arteta
Frimpong
Coquelin
M’Vila possibly
Rosicky can play there
Realistically you have about 8 players vying for 2 CM positions – it’s just not viable.
Another thing about 442, hardly any of the top teams use that formation anymore for obvious reasons. It’s a rigid formation and doesn’t allow players to roam. You can easily get overrun too. I’d use it at home against crap teams though.
Rico, put yourself in Lanbury’s boots and what would you do ?
Well Romford, the best thing would be to sell a few, sounds harsh but how many that you listed are really really good enough ??
Micko, go and sign for Reading….
I don’t mean play 442 every game Romford, just when we need to, against the likes of Stoke etc…
That is definitely a question which is open for debate. You could probably get rid of Diaby and Frimpong…
I just don’t see it happening anyway – we know what Wenger is like. Despite how much we love him, his stubborness grinds my gears. He is very predictable in terms of formation, personnel and isn’t the best tactically.
I’d rather Lansbury than Ramsey ……
Romford Pele, start chopping into the top of that list of yours.
Rico, he has Arsenal DNA pumping through his viens but he must know deep down he’ll never be a regular starter for us, join one of those clubs mentioned and he could go on to be a real stalwart for them and still have a great future ahead of him, I think the writings on the wall.
No way Lansbury over Ramsey. I like Lansbury and think he deserves a chance, not at Aaron’s expense though. People have very short memories. Aaron at the start of the season was very good.
Assist for Gervinho vs Stoke
Pre-assist for RVP(1) vs Chelsea
There are a few more which have evaded me. Ramsey is a major talent – 3 months of inconsistent form shouldn’t make people think otherwise.
Many forget that Wilshere only got his chance because of Ramsey’s injury. And Ramsey before that injury looked a world beater. I’m convinced he can return to that level.
I like Lansbury a lot but he is older and has many in his position ahead of him – I doubt it’s gonna happen for him.
Micko, who would you chop?
Thats exactly why i hope he stays Micko, we dont have enough of Arsenal DNA in our squad…..
Romford – just my personal choice 😉
Diaby – out
Song – out
Frimps – Loan
Ramsey – Loan
You want rid of Song?
So who would be your first choice partnership?
Long term, I still think this is Wenger’s thinking:
Coquelin/Frimpong – Wilshere
—————–Ramsey—————–
That would be my thinking as well unless he goes and buys a young playmaker.
Yep, if it means AW would sign a proper DM and because its rumoured that he’s mucking around about signing his new contract
As for Wengers thinking, i wouldn’t even try to guess what goes on in his mind…. 😉
I’d only sell Song if it means we get M’Vila. Yes, Wenger is a mad man… Only he could transform RVP into a fantastic striker but think Squillaci is worth buying.
Denilson is still on the books, add him to Diaby and Benny.
Song doesn’t do it for me either but he has no real competetion so until then he stays.
Denilson, how did i forget him, def on the out list….
Yes Denilson too. To be fair i’m pretty pessimistic. I only see Wenger making a maximum of two signings this summer. Do people really think he’s going to bring in another 4 players?!
Another 3 imho Romford and that includes a keeper…
So keeper, Vertonghen and M’Vila? I seriously doubt that’ll happen.
The last 7 years have drained my optimism 🙁
I doubt it will happen too, maybe Vertonghen and a keeper and that’s it…
Vertonghen can then push Song for the DM and cover at LB…
It’s not what we need, but as you say, the last seven years suggest it’s the more likely….
RICO regarding your 11:43 if you think £35 million for hazard is inflated your living in the 80s and as for some comparing hazard with gervino it’s like comparing messi with Walcott both good players but one is in a different league I think the calibre of the clubs chasing hazard speaks for it self
Er, i was referring to what Wenger said the font, and in his eyes, that amount is inflated!
Afternoon, rather than sign Hazard or Goetze i would like to see Arsenal put in a bid for Sigurdson who is on loan from Hoffenheim. And about vertoghen maybe someone should point out to him the sad story of Rebrov who chose Spurs over Arsenal ?
hi vernat – you mentioned Sigurdson the other day didn’t you? You obviously rate him highly…
Rico, 12.58;
I think that Gotze will leave Germany, unless he joins Bayern.
But he’s still very young. He could do another 4 years in the Bundesliga and still only be 24ish.
Unfortunately, having seen him ‘live’, i think your £50m could be close to the truth.
I reckon Bayern will snap him up Charlie…. £50M at least i suspect, Ronaldo was £70M and Gotze has it in him to be as good if not better….
It’s more that he has played 14 games for Swansea and scored 7 goals (according to wikipedia) he’s the right age and the right price for us as well. He has experience playing in this country the language should not be an issue as well.
RICO by reading what you say I know your true gooner but when wenger says inflated he means andy Carroll Torres people write about arsenal only caring about the money side of things and seeing we’re the 3rd richest club in the world someone obviously is doing a good job on that front we want to sign the best players and the club knows what they cost and is prepared to pay the right price for true quality there’s no doubt we offered £30 million for goetze and we will have a similar bid for hazard tabled you can also bring into the equation Christensen of Ajax who will be around £25 million but if someone like city want them and they want to go there we can not control the situation city control the situation in two ways ( 1 ) they can offer wages from la la land (2 ) they can out bid us by 10s of millions if they wish to only a mad man would think wenger would not want ronaldo and messi at the club but neither of them want to come to arsenal and even if they did man city Chelsea and psg would inflate the price out of our reach that’s why the board will stretch to £35 million for possibly the new ( Ron messi) with a slight gamble that he does not make the next step up to super stardom
Also i agree with you Rico about looking to buy players from inside the league. There seems to be a view that so and so is great in that league therefore he must be in this league as well, remember Veron, Kezman and Schevchenko? Factor in that at Arsenal they will Not receive the protection from the referees that they would at Utd. or Chelsea as well.
Good afternoon
Hazard don’t play for Lille next year. anyway it depends of the final position of the french League. Tey are now 3td but can win the title again. But, I’m quite sure he will go to one of the Manc.
Verthongen depends. Probably Totts or Newcastle
M’Villa,… Bayern?
Hulk … Chelsea?
vernat, you are thinking like wenger 😉
with the greatest of respect the font, i think he means all players don’t you, his last seven years of signings suggest that…
most football players are over priced these days, as well as over paid…
Arent we the 5th richest club these days??
Probably the 6th now we brought Podolski
To be honest I think that if we are going to pay 30 million for a player I want it to be on one who is already a star not he will be in a few years or has the potential to be, heard that song and dance to often now. So lets spend it on someone with experience, and a proven record or lets add a mixture of experience and youth and look for value around the 15million mark which is realistically what we will spend on a player and the rest on some good youngsters to come in and add some enthusiasm to the club.
😆 Steve…
Fellaini vernat….
Yes Felaini, pay the money and get some one who knows the league, the language etc.. no guarantee that they will be a success but more likely to adapt faster. And then go for a creative mid-fielder
Fellaini is already a success vernat 😉
I’m sure there are few in the PL who could be snapped up for the right price….
Saw a rumour that Wenger had asked Rogers about Sigurdson and if RVP goes buy Bent from Villa who are skint, in his last 299 league games 100 goals, should do better than that in a team that creates more chances
Off to get dinner…..
I saw that rumour too vernat about sigurdson ….
back shortly….
Steve, re 4.07, don’t worry it’s just a blip.
😆 Micko, you are nearly as cynical as me ….
evening all. Just back from a day of business realism I’m afraid. Have we signed anyone?
Hi adam – no, we are done for this summer 😉
Rico. Say it aint so.
No idea Adam, really hope not but years gone by fill me with my doubt… one day i think we will sign three more the next…. i don’t….
I am still debating over whether to sign up for another season Rico. The emotional toll it takes is getting harder to bear. Those silent drives home. Bummer Saturday evenings, avoiding the football on the telly. I wish I could adopt a more level headed attitude to it, but I do find it a bit much at times. I had lunch today with a magazine editor and Arsenal fan. Very bright bloke who has been convinced for the past 3 or 4 years that Wenger has to go. He’s not a rabid, ranting doomer but he reckons that AW hasn’t moved with the times and the club really needs new blood and new ideas. He cited the average teams that Man U have won the PL with and thinks it a disgrace the way Arsenal have carried on in the transfer market. The usual arguments I know but I couldn’t help agree with a lot of it today.
We have no choice but to sign up for another year Adam, it’s just in our hearts…
AW breezed into England with his wonderful ideas and changed football for the good but other managers have followed his example to a degree – they are looking at younger, cheaper talent from overseas and building their squads well, Pardew is todays example – a free Ba and a very cheap Cisse and just loook at what they are doing….
I agree that AW has stood still for too long, he’s gone from buying credible players and turning them into greats, to signing too many risk players who really haven’t made a great impact.
Kos, Sagna and TV are an exception to that rule….
But for each of them, there is a Silvestre, Denilson, Nik, JD, Squlli, Almunia etc etc etc….
It’s ok to take a risk on those players, but holding on to them and playing them for so long is wrong and that is where other managers differ, they would drop them, sell them and move on….
That’s why imho we don’t get stronger….
We’ll have to see how Pardew gets on in his second season. But Newcastle are a good case in point. When they came to the Emirates recently they showed no ambition as far as i could see. Like Man City in fact. If he doesn’t learn from this season and demand the money from Stan then I am at a loss to see where the future lies. How many seasons have we been at the crossroads where investment would have pushed us forward, possibly to a championship? Lots of them. For me the whole squad was bought into sharp and painful focus in the AC Milan home toe when we had done all the good work in the first half. When the team went a bit flat from the effort everyone, including Wenger, looked at the bench. A couple of quality players would have done it, but there sits Chamakh. It isn’t his fault he isn’t Arsenal quality, but it is Wenger’s fault that he is our go-to guy.
I started to feel a bit funny about it when I went to that QPR away fixture. How could a team that had been performing so well fall to bits against a really, very, very average team like that? And then came Wigan. Why? I know we all have our reasons and trot them out regularly but, the simple fact remains that the squad is not good enough and by some distance. Now is the time to address that. Now. And that will take money and a degree of ruthlessness that Wenger has not shown. Is he the man to take the club forward? Another season of finger crossing just aint gonna cut it.
The Qpr result was always on the cards Adam, we had had a good run, got away with results in a couple of games and then off we went to face Barton, a player with issues with us and a manager who is just like him.
They wanted our scalp and outfought us but that is because they have the players to scrap and we dont.
We have far too many players who are nothing more than average and only one man sanctioned their signings…
In my humble opinion, the biggest signing this summer will be Pat Rice replacement, new ideas, different approach when needed and a tweak in training where it’s needed.
I don’t honestly believe we need superstars, what we need it a bit of pride and grit but the signings AW makes don’t bring that.
Podolski will be a breath of fresh air, a German player who probably doesn’t like losing, we ned a couple more who don’t like losing either because right now we seem to have too many players who walk off after games like the Qpr one and only appear to be thinking about who to swap shirts with….
‘Another season of finger crossing just aint gonna cut it.’
Adam, another season of fingers being crossed will se Arsene Wenger sacked, the fan pressure will grow if/when it goes wrong and it will if we don’t add the right players now…
Tbh, we need to buy to just keep up, as sure as heck both Mancs, Newcastle, Liverpool and the Totts will be making sure they strengthen their squads….
But will Wenger really appoint someone that he will listen to? So many questions eh? Ok, Rico. I have had a weird old day with a few negative things floating around. I should be in Munich but am caught up in an upside down house, rubbish everywhere, doing some refurbishment. Next week I should be on a press do in Dallas but I can’t cope with that length of flight at the moment. So, tonight the world of Arsenal seems a rather negative place. I am sure I will get up feeling in a more positive frame of mind. Sorry for my down mood. Have a nice evening.
No probs Adam, its not negative, it’s honest without lambasting a man who has worked wonders for Arsenal – but in recent times he’s faltered. I think we all just want the ‘Magic Hat’ Wenger back, or something pretty close to that….
Have a good eveing, I’m heading off too…
Nighty all….
Evening Adam, sorry to hear your in a bit of depression, but look at the positives Podolski signed before the end of the season and talk of another any time, Arshavin Vella Bentner showing no signs of wanting to come back Chamakh knows his time is uo Diaby starting to look usefull Jack back next year, i can feel a few new faces coming in and quite a few leaving a new No2 and if all goes well CL football next year, we have some good youngsters breaking in i don’t think things are that bad.
what do you think steve, they will come round.
Nte all
We aren’t far off being a great side.
We aren’t far off being an average side.
Over to you Arsene.
Morning all.
How frustrating is that Scott….
How much of a contradiction is that…?
how can we be so close to mediocrity yet also so close to being a very good side…! It’s nothing new is it…. We been like that now for 4/5 years…! Who exactly is to blame..?
Makes you wonder eh……………..
news:
Belgium’s Thomas Vermaelen, who represents the Arsenal central defender is that Real Madrid want to replace Ricardo Carvalho, who must leave the meringues in the season finale.
The news portal is advanced by Tribal Football.
The values we intend to present the Spanish champions Arsenal in order to convince the Gunners to release the Belgian defense were not disclosed.
In addition to Ricardo Carvalho, Lass Diarra, Sahin and Altintop should leave the meringues in the summer transfer market.
Morning all,
thomas vermaelen linked to Madrid £25 mill for M’vila Vertonghen a Tottenham target. Its started ha ha
Vermaelen will not go anywhere,I will bet my house on it.
Wath, its a good spot to be in….you know me,always positive.
At least we have options, and a few minor adjustments will make is great.
Could be worse…..could be Liverpool lol.
The other truly positive thing is this…….the side will definitely improve next season even without more signings.
Don’t take that the the wrong way.
We MUST improve a fair bit PLUS Make new signings, but at least the capacity is there.
Can you say the same thing about other clubs and their currents squads????
I’m looking forward to next season, where I think we can make a decent old go at the league given two more top class signings, and three or four good solid squad players.
What we have right now is the basis of a great side.
Not many clubs have that, and if they do,they’re older than ours.
Wenger needs to keep the core of this group together, and I am 100% positive on one thing….the early problems we went through this season have hardened our players resolve, and made them a tight knit unit.
Onwards and upwards,starting with Norwich.
Chin up Adam.
Morning all……. AW knows he’s gotta step up to the plate, imo this will be last chance saloon! I’m positive I really think 3rd will happen and more quality signings will follow……COYG!
I reckon you’re right Lee.
Doom doom doom get’s on my nerves!
check this out….this guy works in our New York office!!

Hope that makes sense?
Hey guys, anyone remember one Garry Owen….played for West Brom and City(before they were Citeh) ????
Not really Scott
He’d be 40-45 I guess.
Not sure how successful he was,but I was chatting to his brother yesterday.
Just looked him up, he is 53 now, had bad injuries and meningitis in his career, not nice….
Rico, yeah,I was guessing his age based on his brother….
Must have been decent,he won 22 caps.
But they were for England Scott 😉
New Post up ….
I know Rico,I was being very kind lol.
with a name like Gary Owen he should have been a rugby player
