Football is on its way out, a bold statement for someone to say I know but I think I’m right you know.
I was looking at a photo of Carlos Tevez lazing on a sunlounger on a far away beach while his club are off around the world on their pre- season tour and thought to myself, these players are prima donna’s, they think there above the likes of you and me but really they are complete scumbags!
I’m not just having a go at City or Chelsea but clubs in general, especially Premier League ones. They are producing demigod players who, because they earn fantastic money demand to be treated differently from the normal man in the street.
Just lately I have been hearing about players going on strike, players who don’t want to play for the club they are at, players who think they should be playing with better clubs and be on a greater wage. Maybe they think their above all the pre-season travelling and training now they have a nice little stash in their bank accounts!
In all honesty that is the problem.
Most normal people like you and me earn just enough to last you a week. By the time you pay your rent, your poll tax, your gas, electricity, your groceries for the week and your fuel to get to work and home each day travelling to and from work each day, you may just have enough left for a packet of fags and maybe a pint!
Most of us work a forty odd hour week for the money they earn in less than a week….
These so-called superstars are earning ridiculous amounts of money for kicking a ball maybe four hours a day! They turn up for work in their luxury flash cars, they block themselves off from the real world with their headsets on and live their lives in a somewhat fantasy world, almost like saying look at me I’m different I am a superstar, and I should be treated with respect because I am important!
To me they are just overpaid and over glorified scumbags!
I’m not going to pick out individual players as they are everywhere but it appears to me that players who are earning the most are the worst.
They are not happy with just the one woman, one car or even one house are they? No and that’s all because the wages they are earning, they want everything and they can afford pretty much everything.
Things that we consider to be luxuries they purchase like we would a chocolate bar, they flaunt themselves at nightclubs drinking their crystal champagne at two to three hundred a bottle, some even take girls back to their rooms and not always just the one either – they too very often come at a cost but again, they can afford it..
Some have no scruples either, they have gone off with their teammates wife which really is the lowest of the low but they think they are above all that.
Some have been asked to take drug tests after training but have just gone home after and not bothered. Some just seem to like being in the papers, not all for how well they have played either! Some just appear in the red-tops having been outed as a persistent philanderer.
What the hell is happening to the game we all love?
Maybe because I’m getting on a bit now I look at things a little different? No doubt you younger fans will soon let me know. 😉
Footballers have always earned more than the man in the street, even back in the days of George Best and Jimmy Greaves.
We saw back then, young men abusing the skills they had been given instead of training and dedicating themselves to getting better and improving on the talent they had been gifted.
Footballers have fairly short careers but living it up was all they wanted to do.
Today we have players with half the talent but are earning far more than that of yesteryear, footballers and football is on free fall.
In my opinion we have to help these self-destructive players because they seem not to be able to help themselves and this may sound harsh but most seem to lack the education to do anything about it.Yes, many will tell me that Albert Einstein couldn’t play football!
Surely for the sake of the footballers and the game that we all love, the best way to help them out is to cap their wages?
The Government have put in place wage restraints to most ordinary workers as they believe you only need so much to live on, of course while they have these restraints in place they still earn bundles but you see where i am coming from?
If you earned ten times more than what you’re earning you would probably only want to go to work when you fancied it and it appears that the players are getting a bit like that now these days.
If the ruling body were to enforce a wage cap, things would change. Loyalty to the club a player is signed for could come back as they know they can’t earn more elsewhere, contracts would start to be honored again and above all else, players may start to look at what they are earning and think about what happens when their short career comes to an end. That career of course could be ended at anytime, a mistimed tackle, an overgrown blade of grass, anything could happen.
It may just make some think about investing their not so hard-earned wage packet, rather than trolling around like a spoilt brat who thinks he can have anything, just because he is a footballer…..
Should that ever happen, surely the players would benefit, big time and so would the game we all love and that’s Football…..

Just a little bit to end with and that’s about the Ladies side.
The WSL got back underway yesterday after the World Cup and our Arsenal Gals thrashed Liverpool 3-0. Julie Fleeting opened up the scoring on the ten minute mark and Rachel Yankey made it two on the hour.
Kim Little finished the game off with two minutes to go, driving home a super shot into the bottom left-hand corner to make it 3-0, a convincing victory I’d say…
The victory leaves our Ladies four points off the leaders Everton with a game in hand and seven games left to play….
Well done Ladies…..
Morning all…
Good Post Steve
Refreshing change from reading my old moans and groans again 😉
Wage capping is a must for the sake of football – it would certainly help bring back a bit of loyalty in the game too if every club had to pay within the same scale of wages which i guess would have to be based on their performances.
Performance realated pay? i am sure we have all heard of the in the workplace 😉
But, i don’t honestly believe it would help certain players, they are who they are will cheat etc regardless, they are born that way. Such behaviour goes on in the ‘ordinary’ world too, it just doesn’t hit the headlines as it’s just ‘ordianry’ people who won’t sell a red top…..
Unfortunately this post is MOSTLY correct. We can still find the honest, hard working footballer every once in a while. Look at Robben van Persie, he says that he doesnt go to discos but practices football instead, and that the most important thing for him is to eat breakfast with his two children every morning. This man is a role model for not just any footballer, but for a human being
like the idea.. however a european-wide wage cap would be against the EU laws on rights to work…
it could be passed in the uk but that would just mean all the best players would go to other countries to get the bigger wage..
Why Unfortunate Arsenal??
Most of our players aren’t seen in the papers for naughtiness- Jack has been recently and was it JET who trashed his car or Sanchez-Watt?
Not every player is as loyal as RvP….. Sadly….
Once the PAYING public disengage with the players and are priced out of watching live games you end up on the road we are now on. The football I grew up with as a kid living in Highbury and playing football day and night in Highbury Fields has long gone. Not so bad in itself perhaps but what we being left with is something I personally find less and less interesting.
Why ben? I don’t think Steve means bring in the minimum wage into football, i see it as more like all clubs pay between a certain scale, rather than clubs like Citeh being able to offer a player 250K a week – everyone knows Yaya is there for that reason rather than being elsewhere….
Hi Adam, you and me both – i’d much rather see a bit of passion and grit than over paid pampered players who are frightened to ‘play the game’…
But, I guess television coverage has a lot to do with the changes…
Looks like we are interested in Wigan’s James McCarthy….
20 year old midfileder who represents ROI….
The arrival of the really, really rich sugar-daddy owners will be seen as a major turning point when the details of football’s demise are gone over. I think it can already be said that Chelsea and now Man City have destroyed football as a competitive sport. Yes, there have always been the richer clubs who could afford to buy the best players. Man Utd are proof enough of that. But I do have some sympathy with Wenger’s financial doping claims as he sees unearned money being pumped in to clubs purely for advantage. This has destabilized the transfer market and put the very best players out of reach of the many and into the grasp of the very few clubs that can afford them. What does it matter if City spend £50 million on Aguero when their owner can slap a dollar on a barrel of oil and earn another £10 billion? Yes, I admit that there is an element of jealousy about it too. Our owner is richer than yours syndrome. Forget Financial Fair Play too. City have removed that particular check at a stroke, as will Chelsea and all the other top heavy clubs. And most of the money ends up in the players pockets. We are going to have to get used to some real changes as Arsenal fans I think. Usmanov anyone?
Good morning
Interesting post.
Arshavin – Galatasaray ?
Adam, Usamanov is mega rich and i would rather he than Stan and I stand my own view that within 2/3 years time he will have bought out Stan………..
Hi JM, Eboue seems off to Galatasary – not sure about Arsvain though…
Great entry and I agree.
While there are clubs who are willing to live in player related debt, the game will get worse and worse.
Hi Rico. We could face a football “arms race” with the players, yet again, being the real winners. Why don’t city offer £1 billion for Messi and pay him £1 million a week? It is feasible isn’t it? Then the new sports company from Dubai could sponsor the club’s training ground to the tune of £10 billion a year. Where’s the problem? It’s only higher figures than we have now. The principle is the same. Would you buy a season ticket, secure in the knowledge that we will be fighting for a place in the Europa Cup alongside other teams with similar financial clout as us? Would you go to watch the same film every week for 8 months? As for Usmanov? I am not so sure. I look at his age and the size and shape of the man and I think Cardioligy,Cholesterol and strokes.
Will, it’s not about the debt for me as the owners/suga daddies can afford to pay the wages…
But Rico, the debt always Man City to pay Toure £250k a week.
😆 re Usmanov Adam, he’s not the prefect owner for us either but without sounding like a broken old record I don’t believe that Stan is in for any other reason than a money making project.
He’s not going to invest his own money to make us a bit stronger so why is he really bothering.
Usamanov i am sure would have invested in places for a quick fix, maybe only for this this summer due to the FFP coming in but the question that would always be, would his long term aim be in the best interest of our club? I guess we will never know that answer and i’m not going to try and guess.
I always thought Roman would ruin the chavs but he hasn’t….
Good point about Messi, but on a five year contract Citeh would be broke 😉
They can afford it Will and right now they are allowed to pay him that….
Rico. No way would they be broke. Their income is linked to oil prices and when was the last time fuel went down by any reasonable amount. If Usmanov had managed to get control of the club let us imagine that he said to Wenger “Look Arsene the world and his wife know we need blah, blah, blah. The team is stagnant. We are being held to ransom by one little chubby Frenchman who, along with Cesc is dictating our agenda and our transfer strategy. I want you to get proactive, buy the best players and here is £100 million to do that. We must win something and to do that we need to compete so clear out the shite and buy the players we really need now, not in 5 years. The youth experiment just ended 5 minutes ago”. What do you reckon Wenger would say Rico? Because I am pretty sure most of us have a good idea.
I know Adam, the Citeh owners are mega rich….
Wenger would say no, but i bet there would be a queue of mangers who would say yes 😉
But I am not so sure AU would do that quite as bluntly because he has great respect for Wenger – after all it’s probably him who has a big part in AU’s reasons for investing in the first place.
I’m sure they would have come to a mutal agreement on who to buy and what to do to atek us forward quickly.
One thing he might have the balls to do though was to stick Nasri in the reserves for a season as he wouldn’t worry about losing the money next season. I bet the little frenchman would soon sign a contract etension then and we could sell him for more than he is worth today…
Ok. Have a good day Gooners. I am off to the strange world known as Selfridges. Another temple to the rich. If I see Usmanov I will tell him to la off the Foie Gras.
Eboue has agrred personal terms with Galatasary according to talksport….
Have a good day Adam…
Oh no. Eboue off? I am too upset to go out now.
K-TR7, when you come on later, what do you know about this guy please??
Sebastián Coates Nion – Uruguay player
Adam, behave 😉 😉 😉
Adam, that is a short term view. What we need from a rich manager is.
Man Utd get almost £75m a season from their commercial department so we need to up our game to at least £60m a year. We need someone to pay off the debt and even incur the early payment fine.
That makes us £160M a season to start with, now, with the Emirates joke taken away, we can sell shirt sponsorship for £20M a season and stadium sponsorship of £30M a season and with just those 4 things we are making £210M a season clear.
Add the little sponsorships and other payments we get and I am sure we can easily clear £250M a season for player buys.
rico,
Coates is the young central defender of Uruguay. Was the revelation of Amarican Cup.
Eboue out? bad…
Seb Coates…?
Hope he’s not related to Ralph.
Good post SP.
Hi Rico. It’s hot in London.
Tendulkar out.
Where’s Shrek?
Happy Days. Lata
Quiet on here today.
Arsene Wenger has “promised” to work hard on transfers and I for one think that is very nice of him.
Just two more should do it, evening all.
Ak, if your still about, where you been you old bugger
Looks like theres only you and me on here Steve
Yeh i noticed that, must have been a shit post
Yeh didnt think much of it i must say

Some of it is getting me down i must admit, Just hope tomorows post is better
Yeh lets hope so, going for a beer do ya fancy one
Yeh nothing going on here i’ll come with ya, nte all
I think that when we talk about player loyalty to club, we should also talk about club loyalty to players.
These days managers have so much pressure on them from owners and *cough* fans like us, that they can’t afford to be loyal to players. Meaning young players and older players who go through a dip in form are discarded all to quickly. Its a hard and unforgiving world out there. I don’t entirely blame players for thinking of themselves first.
Hi Guys,
Sorry i’ve not been around, my Mum had a fall and has broke bones in her ankle – few hours at the hospital and one poor old gal in plaster 🙁
Fair comment Doc, seems a bit unfair that some players seem to get chance after chance but others are assesed a lot quicker, maybe personality or favourtism, there will be trouble withJack soon if he keeps playing well he will also be looking for a pay rise
Sorry to hear that rico was she shook up
