Theo Walcott – Arsenal’s new ‘Postman’ is on a par with Ian Wright….

Morning all.

So it’s Man City, Tottenham and one of Chelsea and Man Utd who join us in the FA Semi-Final and I reckon we’ll get either City or the winner of tonight’s fixture. What better for the FA than to see an all North London Final eh, and we know who they’ll be routing for.

Say what we like about Theo Walcott, and we most certainly do, but so often he delivers in the big games.

His first Arsenal goal came against Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final back in the days when he wore the number 32 shirt. Since then he’s scored a few important and good goals. His game is very hit and miss, but in the big games, he seldom goes missing.

The Tottenham game a few years ago stays with me as after a shocking first half which left most of us wanting him off the pitch quicker than Hector Bellerin can run 100 metres, his second half was so much better and Arsenal came out on top. Then there was the 2-0 victory over the same opposition in 2006. He may not have scored but he ran their defence ragged and but for Lloris, would have grabbed himself a goal or two. His 2-0 gesture whilst being carried off on a stretcher was amusing to say the least.

Against Man City earlier this season, he opened the scoring. We lost in the end after a typical second half capitulation when Mesut Ozil and a few others again went missing but my point is, another big match, another Arsenal goal.

The against Bayern just a few days ago Walcott opened the scoring, not that it did us much good as funny enough, another defensive comedy show followed but only after Laurent Koscielny was sent off. The referee was as fault for that hefty loss and I know that because Arsene said so. Many times….

At the weekend, it was the Englishman who again got the ball rolling just before half time and not so long ago, in the same competition, Theo grabbed himself a hat-trick against Southampton. He now sits level with Ian Wright with twelve FA Cup goals and another fourteen would see him catch Cliff Bastin’s record of twenty six. No, it’ll never happen….

Walcott has scored seventeen goals so far this season which for a winger isn’t bad and as much as he’s one of Arsenal’s Marmite players, unlike Mesut Ozil and a few other players in our attacking unit, he’s producing the goods.

But I wouldn’t be at all surprised if when a new manager finally arrives, he’ll be one of those heading for the exit door.

Mind you, a different manager with a different mindset might just rejuvenate the Englishman, and a few others….

    From last post ………………….

I think our problem with tactics is that maybe they are lost in translation !………..I can give you an example right this minute !……………………………………I just said to Max ( my puppy)…….” Go get me the squeaky bone ! “…………….he runs down stairs and runs back up with the ball in his mouth !…………………….Now I`ve just got the one puppy and Arsene has how many different nationalities ?………now, Arsene could be barking orders in his broken english to Alexis saying……..” Alexis, mon ami, slip back from zee half way line and cover zee fullbacks monje tieu !”………….and Alexis scampers back with a squeaky bone in his mouth !

    Thansk Rico again .

Nothing to me would better than beating the scummy spuds in an FA Cup final, but nothing would be worse ( in football terms) than losing to them in a final, it`s a toss of a coin and In some ways I hope we never play them in a final !………………..unless they were to lose all their top players to injury as I think currently their style of play would murder us !…….no, lets get Mansahfter Std in the final to settle the busines of who`s the most successfull FA Cup team !.

    I replied:

LC, back in the good old days, Arsene had to deal with many more different languages than he does today so that old excuse doesn’t wash with me… ?

  4. potter says:

He speaks Spanish, German , French and English anyway so not a problem . He shouls be able to communicate. The question is are the players listening and if so do they take any notice ?

  5. Herb's Army says:

    Hi Rico and HH.
Sorry Scott, I respectfully disagree with you that Wenger is or has ever been a great manager. Good but never great.
But he would have made a great Chancellor of the Exchequer, of that I have no doubt.
He has an appalling transfer record, even back as far as when he first joined the club. The vast majority of his buys have been complete failures, and since moving Stadium 11 years ago, Arsenal have become progressively weaker through brazen asset-stripping and consistently purchasing the wrong type of players.
As much as I agree with you and Cornwall that Kroenke is a major problem, one of his biggest crimes is allowing Wenger to use Arsenal as his personal play-thing.
As for his comments about Arsenal fans ‘being brain-washed by poor punditry’, again he displays a complete snobbish arrogance to absolve himself of any direct responsibility.
He has no spiritual connection with the fans because he doesn’t engage them.
If we’re being brain-washed, how about talking to the fans yourself, Arsene, and in your own words explain why you have allowed the club to decline, and why you cling on to something you no longer feel the need to be competitive at? Tell us why you deserve a King’s ransom to continually hold Arsenal back and make thousands upon thousands of people miserable.
But he won’t, because they’re too cowardly to have an honest, open debate at Arsenal, in case the fans tell them what they really think of them.

  6. Le Coq Monster says:

The reason Kroenke lets Wenger use Arsenal as his personal play-thing, Herb, is Wenger`s brilliance as a bank manager……….as you say !

I wouldn`t be surpised if even the likes of Mourinho, Ferguson etc` had some appalling transfer deals, it`s just the fact that they and the big spending clubs have more money to gamble on players !…………….sure if Wenger was to spend as much, he might get some right !……………………….the other fact of the matter is, 3 clubs spend a lot more than we have, but still only one can win the title, 2 of the 3 rich bastards are going to be disappointed and as for us, we are not really in the frame and wont be until we compete on financial terms !……,.,.yes a better coach/manager may/will help, but the big 3 will always be able to up the ante if we produce some trophy or competitiveness………………….. long term Kroenke is the long term problem, I wish I knew the answer to that one.

  7. Le Coq Monster says:

And yes, there is a Mourinho one !…………with Shevchenko top of the list, but was he Mourinho`s signing or Abramovitch`s signing ?……………….hahaha

  8. Le Coq Monster says:

Although I must say……….no one has had a better squad of players he could have bought than Arsene Wenger !……..it genuinely is a top world eleven who he failed to buy and it can be argued that it`s not the appalling players he did buy, but the great ones he failed to buy that is his biggest failure or disappointment……….discuss ! 😆

  9. Kk says:

The difference most don’t mention when comparing transfer and spending of arsenal to other big clubs is the fact that wenger has over 20 years..well say 10 years at least to get it right. .I am sure if he chose the right players needed at the right time he would have spent less in the long term…and we could have had the momentum and the elusive mental strength to compete with the big boys..

Other top 4 managers come in, spend big and win a trophy and then get the sack..they don’t get the opportunity to build any legacy.

Arsene had all the time to establish a competitive team over the last 10 years and he failed, apart from somehow lucky 2 fa cups.

He has been anything but a great manager IMO of course.

  10. Le Coq Monster says:

Typical !………..now someone comes along and Im` off to the gym !………………………….carry on !.
    🙂

  11. Marshall says:

The arrogance at which Wenger points how many games he’s managed and seeing those having a different opinion as brainwashed fans – like we can’t think objectively for ourselves is what makes me hate him as a man and wish he’d vuck off now!

He is a great manager for a mid table team running on a budget.

  12. rico says:

    Afternoon Herb and all.

Good points about Wenger not being in touch with the fans. All he’s done of late is push us further away with comments like ‘I’ve been in management for x amounts of years so I know best’ etc etc, or something like that. He forgets that it’s the footballing basics which he’s getting wrong which is something many people who have played to a reasonably good standard know inside out….

They’d also know by now that in this league the referees are hopeless and only need a sniff to send one of our players off so why hasn’t he over those twenty years drummed into the players not to give them a decision to make….

As for our defending, well I won’t even go there.

  13. Le Coq Monster says:

Instead of watching Chav/Manshafter game tonight you can watch our U23`s Vs Mansour City U23`s live and free on Arsenal.com !……………………….as I`ve always said, I dont watch other teams !………..especially that they might have players who Wenger could have bought……….Cesc wanted to come back…fact !. 🙂

  14. ScottfromOz says:

Herb, the reason I blame Stan is for exactly the point you outlined-he allows Arsene to do his own thing, and so is guilty, imo.
I’ll never understand why more don’t hold him accountable, and responsible but each to their own.
Not sure how you can see he’s only been a good manager though, but again, each to their own but I wonder if you felt that way 10-12 years ago.
If you can name me any manager who’s not had their share of failed transfers I’d be surprised.
    Morning all.

  15. Le Coq Monster says:

Some very good individuals in the young gooner team, but so have City, but City are better as a team as well…….0-2 to Money Bags !

  16. Le Coq Monster says:

Sanogo is probably the oldest on the pitch and also the most crap !….still !……plenty of time to make me eat my words ! hahaha

  17. Le Coq Monster says:

Boom !……..Nelson 2-2…………..deserve to be level with some great play !…..still no Sanogo involvement !
    🙂

  18. Le Coq Monster says:

Jars Jars last attempt before being replaced was some kind of Jedi Karate kick !………….the force is shit with this one ! 🙂

  19. Kk says:

How arsene still thinks sanogo is a football player is beyond joke. .
I mean how old is Rashford? Now that what you call a huge prospect.
Kante for 30 million or xhaka 35?
30 years in football management he says!!

  20. Mark says:

I think the anger towards Wenger is generated by his arrogant stubborn and fear of leaving and the total nonsensical crap that comes out of his mouth ! . He may believe he loves Arsenal, but he loves Arsene more.
If he digs for another 2years I’m gonna find it really hard to maintain any interest in Arsenal. I don’t say this lightly, but there’s only so many times you can hope for change, because we don’t buy the players we need, don’t do tactics and how does he still get away with the team not being mentally prepared for a game, ffs. He’s killing this club, and what’s just as bad is half the fan base have accepted this shit! Stale mediocrasy!
    WENGER OUT!!Gotta keep practicing ! ??

  21. micko says:

Jm, read a nice little story about Kante when he arrived at Leicester, he was running into training every morning and then home again, Kasper Schmeichel went out and bought him a second hand mini…..I suspect he’s driving home in an Aston Martin DB10 tonite.

See Citeh got lucky again this evening.

  22. Le Coq Monster says:

Was I the only one on here watching the U23`s ?………………….was there a fire drill ?
    😀

Mansour City is the best chance for us to make final and that`s a tough one !……………………….if we get to final we will need a plague of injuries to our final opponents as both are currently better than us by a country mile !…………………….why couldn`t we have got Spuds in a final when they were fcuking shit !………….remember that whole decade when they didn`t get a win against us !…….then would have been good ! 🙂

  23. potter says:

They were too shit to get there . Now however Kane out for the season lets see Delle catessen get one as well and see how good they are.

  24. allezkev says:

The reason I was hoping for Man City is all down to my mental state…

I can just about take losing to Guardiola at Wembley…

Losing to Chelsea in the final would be very hard to take…

Losing to the Scum would be absolutely awful…

Can you imagine Wenger signing his new 2 year contract, then going onto lose the FACup final to those shitbags?

  25. allezkev says:

Of course, the optimists out there (I’m looking at you Scott) would say, what if we won, beat the Scum in the final, how great would that feel…

Can anyone really feel confident in this team and this manager getting past two out of the three other semi-finalists, because I can’t…

  26. Wavy says:

    Me too neither?
For us, the number out of the old bean bag was…..you’ve guessed it number 4!
And that’s where we’re going to finish after the semis…..fourth!
Sad but true. Wenger can’t cut it and he can’t instil a winning ‘mentality’ into the players to get them to perform well enough
End of the silver polish dream for this year, I think.

  27. ScottfromOz says:

Kev, I assure you, I have little confidence in our boys winning the Cup lol
Hope-always, but not confidence, not the way we’ve been playing.

  28. Lee says:

Kante was top drawer last night…..beggar’s belief that Wenger chose the more expensive, not PL ready Xhaka over him!

As for the shit transfers, Wenger is massively up there BUT the major difference is other managers get shot of them!

Wenger keeps on playing and paying them…..

Let a proper manager lose with tyrant Stan’s transfer budget, current squad and transfer kitty. Don’t let Arsene Mugabe block another manager joining……

  29. rico says:

    Morning all.

I reckon it will be too Marshall – all part of the FA’s cunning plan. I suspect Dean will be the ref and we’ll be beaten by a dodgy penalty. Either that or we’ll have a player sent off and we collapse as always…

    🙂

Lee, he tried to get Kante, but failed…. lol

  30. Marshall says:

Sanogo is getting games just in time for his contract renewal. So we can be reminded how crucial he is for us hence deserves a new contract. Insanity.

  31. Marshall says:

I hope that as well. But according to LCM he didn’t impress his suitors much. Six goals scored in U23’s match and Sanogo didn’t have a hand (or a leg) in one…

  32. Marshall says:

True. With his (sanogo) wages only a team in top division can afford him, which is not worth his quality. And he ain’t no Adebayor to get insane deals.

I guess that’s why Debuchy is finding it hard to get another club. LP will find it hard to leave too, unless he takes a pay-cut.

  33. Marshall says:

That’s for marketing, nothing about football. On the brighter side if Wenger won’t be the manager by then, we could have a decent scoreline.
