Arsenal ready to secure Rooney deal.. The old boys want to see some spending.

Morning all,

Two old boys have been giving their view on Arsenal.

Lately Arsenal have become very solid and Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker have gained a confidence together, but defensively I think they are still short – I’d like to see them sign another centre-back, a couple of full-backs and possibly a keeper.

The fans are desperate for a trophy of some sort. I would like the players to get used to winning; if you have never had that experience of crossing the line as a winner you don’t know what it is like to be a winner.

Β Jack Wilshere is very important to the club, but you can’t rush him. I think he has played more games than Arsene Wenger would have wanted him to play following his injury, but he’s such an influential player for us.

That’s from big Tony..

This is from Sir Bobby:

Wenger built Arsenal so he is very important to the players and needs to stay.

In my opinion I think Arsenal need to buy English players.

He (Wenger) has changed the philosophy at the club, he brought in young players like Theo Walcott, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and Aaron Ramsey, these players are very good for the future but now they need to buy some players with experience to give a good mix.

No matter what the other players or other staff of Arsenal want to say about our club, there will always be those who loved every minute playing for Arsenal. They’ll always remain loyal and proud regardless…

Pires wants experienced British players, Adams just wants defenders but one player it seems the press jumped the gun about is Ashley Williams. According to Swansea we have made no contact about him…

The Daily Mail reckon one British player we are desperately trying to get and will break the wage structure for is Wayne Rooney. If you don’t believe me, have a read here. There’s another story in the same newspaper and if true it’s great news. It suggests thatΒ Fenerbahce and Besiktas could boost Arsenal’s summer transfer kitty after showing interest in Nicklas Bendtner and Gervinho.

Good, let the clear out continue I say, the more money Arsene Wenger ends up with the better, as long as he spends it and of course, as long as he’s selling who we all want him to sell….

That’s it for today on Champions League final day.

Enjoy what should be a fantastic game of football. See who many you think would look good in Arsenal colours…

Have a good one….

  1. agirlagunner says:

Good morning to you, rico. πŸ™‚ I think the key is to get the ones who have been playing well to stay PLUS to get proven quality in. Splurges are often worth it. The board keeps banging on about how well we are doing financially, so they should stop sniffing around the bargain bin. πŸ˜‰

  2. agirlagunner says:

Good for you, Adam. πŸ˜› Howdy? How do you intend to spend your Arsenal-less weekends now?

  3. Adam says:

    Morning Rico and Agag.
I just thought, Adebayor has been very quiet after all his bluster about wanting to “kill” Arsenal’s CL qualification hasn’t he?
I take a certain satisfaction in his stupidity and arrogance.
Does that make me a bad person?

  4. Adam says:

Agag. A good question. I will take up bread making, crocheting while wearing red jeans and red satin catsuits.
    What about you?

  5. agirlagunner says:

Adam, we all know it’s uncharitable to delight in the misfortune of others. But the rule admits of exceptions; and Spuds must be mocked at will. πŸ˜€ Adebayor, merits special attention. Haha.

  6. agirlagunner says:

Adam, why not sewing, so you don’t have to go to a tailor for your catsuits? πŸ˜› I’m looking into cooking lessons. Hah.

  7. wilcox says:

I don’t know what rooney is going to bring to the park but ma concern is the midfield position; I really think arsenal needs a defensive midfielder dat will shield the back four n a defender as well” williams won’t be a bad ideal”

  8. W.A.T.H says:

Morning Adam & AGAG, leave you two alone and your talking clothes as usual and all sorts of other feminine extravagances…!

    Adam & his catsuit fetish…………. Nuff said….

  9. agirlagunner says:

**WATH. The universe must be reminding you to take a bath though. πŸ˜› Adam is the fashion plate here, clearly. πŸ˜‰

As for Rooney, ick. I’d rather we get Torres, big game player, and one to score winning goals. 😳

  10. agirlagunner says:

Lee, WASH is rico’s deputy, Kev’s grandson, GG guzzler, etc.. πŸ˜‰

Come on, Dortmund!! Maybe if they win, KT will be prompted out of hiding. πŸ˜‰

  11. W.A.T.H says:

If you scrub my back AGAG I’ll supply the soap πŸ˜›

    Cheeky wench…!

Rooney and Torres…….! Now that would get Adam off out buying a new catsuit in gold with diamond sequins..!

  12. agirlagunner says:

I’l send our laundry lady, WATH. ready your steel wool and industrial strength detergent! She’s fantastic at scrubbing! πŸ˜†

Rooney and Torres, now that is a show of intent! Not gonna happen, of course. πŸ˜‰

  13. rico says:

Morning Wath, Lee, Adam, agag and all….

Sun is shining and I have power again – hoooooorah πŸ™‚

  14. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

I can see Arsenal loosening the purse strings, shaking out the moths and spending to bring in three or four experienced players (Sanogo doesn’t count), but I can’t see them obliterating their wage structure just to accommodate Vain Rooney. He strikes me as a bomb about to go off, but you just don’t know when. I’d rather we signed someone else. This is the second season that Vain has put in a transfer request at ManUre.

  15. agirlagunner says:

Boo, CG! How is Canada? I’m not a fan of Rooney; I think he’s a bit of a prima donna and wilts under pressure. I should hope we’d buy better. πŸ˜‰

rico, boo!! How are you? πŸ™‚

  16. rico says:

Morning Cg, I’d love us to sign Wooney, huge statement of intent and to get a class striker from the Mancs would be pretty good..

    But I too doubt we’d pay any one player Β£200k a week…

  17. rico says:

Boo to you agag, I’m good thanks, much better now the sun is shining and it feels warm…

    How are you?

  18. Canadian Gooner says:

Sister AGAG – I am well and looking forward to the Champions League final. I was looking at your avatar. Is that shoe a drawing or a real shoe? If real, have you worn it?

As for Vain, if we sign him and pay him Β£200,000 a week, I’ll believe in fairies.

  19. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – If Arsenal make such a large statement of intent, I’d rather have Lewandowski. Yes, I know I’m dreaming or away with the fairies.

  20. potter says:

All the talk of Rooney and Β£ 200 grand will do is up the ante on negotiations for other players.

  21. agirlagunner says:

I am well, rico. Its sooooo humid here. Yuck. πŸ™ I’m glad you’re having good weather. πŸ˜‰ You cheering for Dortmund, rico?

CG, that is a real shoe. πŸ™‚ Diego Dolcini. I didn’t buy the pair though. I don’t think feathers and work mix. Haha. It would have been impractical to buy something that I wouldn’t really wear. Looking forward to the Champions League final, as well. Go Dortmund!!

  22. rico says:

    Have to love Pires..

β€œVilla is a very good player, score many goals, his time at the club has been hard, complicated. If he comes to Arsenal, it will be very easy for him to adapt.

β€œIf Villa wants to raise his level, the best option for him is to play for Arsenal, who will be in the Champions League yet again.”

Unlike going to the neighbours who won’t be and David Villa has his hair washed on Thursday nights πŸ˜‰

  23. agirlagunner says:

rico, love that Pires interview, too. πŸ™‚

Haha on the Thursday night comment.

I don’t like Ribery and you know how I feel about Robben. I thoroughly dislike Muller too, now. Wasn’t happy with how he kept on moaning at the refs when we played them.

  24. rico says:

I think Bayern might win though agag, if they do, at elast we know we were the only ones to have beaten them in this years CL campaign…

Trophy for that maybe πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  25. rico says:

Cg, certain players will always divide fans view.

Some think Ramsey is good… ;).

    Wooney would be another…

  26. Canadian Gooner says:

I’m off to bed, I want to get a good nights sleep before the Champions League Final kicks off. So, a Good Afternoon and/or Evening to you all. Keep the Faith.

    Dortmund for the win!

  27. George says:

    allo allo

I’d take Darren Bent for Β£4m , shoot on sight no nonsense striker. Cheap as chips, and flog Star Trek. Use the surplus to get the players Fulham seem to be buying and going for ie “Steklenberg” Amorebiata..

Pires was a classy midfielder, not just on the pitch but off it too.

There is Money is Turkey, so I say instead of buying from there (Santos =sanTOSH), sell sell sell. NB52 and spam patch..take the money and run.

For as good as Yilmaz looks , he might be just a 1 season wonder. ..

  28. Eddissimmo says:

    A few thoughts.

    1. Pires is a legend but with the exception (maybe) of Rooney and Ashley Williams what other British players would he suggest we buy that would improve the team now!? There are hardly hundreds of world beaters out there! Maybe bobby thinks we should bid for bale?

    2. Adebayor is a total merc. So good to see him slipping in to mediocrity.

    3. Whatever arsenal for need to buy this off season it is NOT a holding midfielder!!!! Arteta has that position as the pivote in front of the defence down up, and rightly as the stats show. He is effectively our pirlo a La Milan of 5 years ago, and we do not need someone to sit behind him! The closest thing we’d want might be a box to box destroyer like gattuso was for them or yaya is for city, to compete with Ramsey for the privilige of playing next to jack/santi, but given rambo’s improvements towards the end of this season maybe not. Basically central midfield is the one place we’re spoilt for choice.

    Rant over!

  29. STV says:

Darren bent and all that lot doesn’t crack me. Rooney has past it me thinks.. Silvestre comes to mind.. he can never be a silvestre but still we need a prolific scorer like Higuain Lewandowiski or even Jovetic imo..

  30. STV says:

If we are going to take rejects take Real madrid rejects.. they are best and never from man utd..

  31. W.A.T.H says:

Ed, sorry for delay all first posts go into moderation,

I must disagree re Arteta, I think he’s done a great job purely because the bloke is a very good player and has the savvy to know where to be but it’s not his natural game and at his age we cannot rely on him for the future can we..? think it’s still the one weakness we have is down the middle, a proper defensive midfielder can come in and do a great job and also allow us to rotate a little more which will also help through the duration of the season don’t you think..? Again just my opinion.

  32. W.A.T.H says:

I cannot believe the amount of fans that are saying they don’t want Rooney, We crying out for quality players in their prime and people are coming out with bollox that Rooney isn’t good enough or past it or has been…? reality check me thinks…. He’s exactly what we want and cast aside feelings of the bloke off the pitch on it he would give us nothing but quality and the right attitude and before anyone starts with a silly comment I think the bloke is a prized dickhead BUT i would love him in an Arsenal shirt 100%…! Don’t be blinded by the fact you may not like the person…!

George, Yilmaz been doing the biz for a good few seasons now mate he ain’t no one season wonder, go check his stats.

  33. STV says:

Don’t know if the rooney rumor is true.. Am not a fan of him but wath was right about his attitude on the pitch.

  34. NashuaGunners says:

    Good afternoon and All

If at all Rooney wants to prove a point with all the doubters (including myself) let him do what MA08 did; take a pay cut. After one season or two with exceptional performances (world Class) than ask for his original pay that he used to have at ManU.
That would do it… but until than 200k is way too much imo.

  35. NashuaGunners says:

Not even the best striker within the past two seasons (RVP) we didn’t offer him close to 200k a week. Why Rooney??? Don’t get me wrong, good player but not that kind of money. His off-the-pitch attics doesn’t bother me… if his wife doesn’t care, who am I to compain???

  36. agirlagunner says:

SuhailTV!!! How are you?? πŸ™‚ Been a while. offseason planter, πŸ˜†

rico, STV’s right, you’re back to the garden. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Nash, I think 200K pw is much too much to pay a player. That’s silly money. And for Rooney, just ridiculous.

  37. Joaquim moreira says:

    Why MU doesn’t want Rooney?
    not a friendly player?
not a good environment inside the group?
    many injuries?
is a player for half a season or worst?
he is getting older very quickly?
    not work for the team?
    didn’t sell many t-shirts?
    he is a bad ego?
    don’t work ?
    is too expensive?
    is he close the end-line?
    Has he win enougth titles?
maybe all of them and a more few… why weewant this player?
For sell t-shirts? For saying we have one more english player?…
In balance, I’m quite sure he will destroy the team and not United it.

  38. rico says:

    πŸ˜† Stv…

    Hi Ng, I wouldn’t believe all the ‘Β£200K a week’ stuff, it’s media speculation…

Can’t see SK sanctioning such a salary and I actually wouldn’t blame him. In any case, we don’t know if that’s how much Rooney would demand…

    All headline stuff πŸ˜‰

  39. Micko says:

    Afternoon,
More likely Jeremie Aliadiere, cheap french crock with premiership experience, that’s a proper Wenger signing, Rooney, Jovetic, Villa, Lewandowski and Cavani all over-rated anyway, we got Sanogo.
Careful you don’t get fat rico.

  40. W.A.T.H says:

Sorry STV mate popped in for a beer………..

    Hope your well mate….!

Rooney like most will cause many reasons for concern and some may be valid most I would say are not but just the fact people are saying no makes me laugh one minute they want quality players then the bitching when we linked with one…!

  41. allezkev says:

Oi, Wash, drinking beer again, you’re only 14 you naughty scamp…

Never met a 14 year old as miserable as Wash/Wath…

You would think he was in his 50’s the way he moans… πŸ˜€

    Afternoon Gooners.
    Afternoon Leeky.. πŸ˜‰

  42. allezkev says:

    Afternoon Adam…

Are you wearing your catsuit this fine afternoon?

London has been invaded by the Jerries, it’s like 1940 all over again…

I remember it well, the air-raid sirens, the Luftwaffe bombing London, the year Wath was born. It was grim… πŸ™‚

  43. NashuaGunners says:

@W.A.T.H. For me I’m not bitching about Rooney coming to Arsenal but just concern about 200K if its true. He would have something to prove and send a message to his old employer that what they used to pay him was worth it… but not for 200K.

For that kind of money we could do better.

    Hi Rico and agag.

  44. allezkev says:

Yes, it was a tough time back then in 1940…

The Blitz, Rationing, night after night down the Anderson shelter, Wath constantly crying, he was a miserable little sod… πŸ˜›

  45. W.A.T.H says:

Nash, the 200k is the going rate and there are a few on more that are just not worth it, I think AFC would not pay him 200k but will pay it in a round about way… endorsements and image rights and shirt sales, I think he needs a new challenge and we could be the ideal fit…! Agin merely my opinion and wasnt digging you out but a lot of weird comments on Rooney in general. Seems people have actually ignored the fact he is a top top quality player, well I reckon he is but then again WTF do I know I have AK as a Grandad and had to listen to all his drivel about the 30’s side when I was growing up and he wonders why I was miserable…!

  46. allezkev says:

I know that there are a lot of rumours going around, connecting Arsenal to Wayne Rooney.

And Arsenal/Arsene Wenger, seem perfectly happy to have these stories rumbling on as they try to sign some other striker from Ligue II as normal…

Both the media in general and the club, know that this story is utter tosh.
But if sells copy and sells season tickets…

As per usual, we are having the piss taken out of us by all concerned…

ManUre might be happy to sell us a pile of shit like Silvestre, but sell us a top player like Rooney, you’re having a larf….

Zebra if Ebeneezer Kroenke sanctioned the finance for the move, the Mancs would never sell him to us….

Nope, we’ll be signing someone from the Congo I suspect…

    Lata

  47. Micko says:

Kev, I really miss the traffic on the A406 on days like this, Stonebridge estate is very close to my heart, it’s up there with Chalkhill estate.
    rico, 7.45 kick off.

  48. rico says:

    You old cynic Ak πŸ˜‰

Thanks Micko, that’s late. Will clash with Britain’s Got Talent. Maybe I won’t be watching….

  49. EastSidePaul says:

I almost forgot the last time Rooney wanted a pay hike he handed in a transfer request, same game here I think.

So who has everyone got for tonight? Hope Dortmund do it, but I think Munich are too strong. Would like to see a lot of goals!

  50. Micko says:

Still coming to terms with a dog winning it last year rico !!! it’s not like he could even say “sausaaages”

  51. Wavy says:

Rooney to Arsenal not a chance you’ve got more chance of Alex James rising from tthe dead and making his second coming debut in September in place of Cazorla!
Ridiculous. Arsenal will help manure when in a fix ie selling the grey badger so they can effectively win the EPL before April but reciprocate and sell us one of their players, really talented players NOT A HOPE – they are just ot that stupid!

  52. rico says:

Esp – he won’t be asking for a rise this time. My bet it’s more about the new manager…

Micko, Pudsey is the best ever winner πŸ™‚

  53. rico says:

What is the world of cricket coming to, Joe Root has just scored a 100 on his home ground, in front of many of his home fans and he kisses his helmet…

    πŸ˜›

  54. Micko says:

Same here Paul, Bayerns 3rd champions league final in 5 years, robbed against Chelsea last May, should be a cracking game.

  55. allezkev says:

Yes Rico, I am a cynic, but less of the old eh?

I get enough of that from Wash… πŸ˜‰

  56. Wavy says:

Rico, i will so long you wrap them in grand ma-zipan!

Don’t misunderstand me, I would be delighted to welcome Vain to the Ems. He might even improve us, a bit!

Sadly, I just can’t see it. Sorry.

  57. STV says:

Wishing for an entertaining game between two Germans.. am rooting for Dortmund.. just because I like their manager and their style of play

  58. rico says:

I don’t really care Stv. I don’t like Robben much..

But if BM win, then it says a lot about us….

  59. rico says:

I’m offski folks, this CL final is sending me to sleep… πŸ˜‰

Hope the second half is full of thrills and spills….

    Stay safe all, ’til tomorrow…

    Nighty…..

  60. agirlagunner says:

Nighty, guys!! I don’t like Robben either, rico. He divides his time between diving and moaning.

  61. W.A.T.H says:

    Bolloxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I hate that horrible little cheating piece of shit…! Now he wins the Champions League for Bayern… No justice is there…!

  62. agirlagunner says:

Good night, all. Bayern Munich is EXACTLY like Barcelona. Players fling themselves to the ground at every opportunity, and whine, whine, whine. πŸ™

    Good night, WASH! Scrub-a-dub-dub!

  63. W.A.T.H says:

Morning AGAG, sleep tight… who needs soap… deodorant works wonders πŸ˜‰

    AK taught me that…………

  64. Micko says:

Wash, your rubber duck is calling you, I admire ya for your stance on the environment, I only flush the toilet when I go for a number 2.

Credit where it’s due, he may be a little cheating piece of shit but you and me could live to be a 110 and never see Gervinho score a winner like that, skill, composure and a deft finish to win the CL final, the stuff of dreams.

  65. Eddissimmo says:

@w.a.t.h – no worries re the wait for moderation – i talk too much! interesting point, we could use cover there though I think Ramsey’s been looking better and better dropping in There. Still think arteta’s doing for us what xabi Alonso would have. He just makes all the right decisions! Still maybe you’re right, and my box to box destroyer can be your cover man!

@rico – good shout, lowton might be good enough… Not sure about McCallum.
