The Joys Of A Transfer Window.

Afternoon all.

If there’s one thing we Arsenal fans know for sure this summer, it’s that the internet will be awash with stories relating to players who’re heading to the club this summer. Most of which will be rubbish from the headline onwards.

I’m even starting to doubt the Eddie Nketiah’s signing of a new contract at Arsenal because unlike with Mo Elneny, nothing has been confirmed. Neither has the signing of São Paulo forward Marquinhos and now it seems like there’s a problem because Wolverhampton Wanderers claim that they’d already secured a deal for the player. Well, a pre-contract agreement which if verbal, means nothing at all. If Marquinhos had signed any paperwork, I’m sure his agent, his club and Arsenal would have known all about it. The last thing Arsenal, or São Paulo for that matter, would do is set themselves up for a legal battle which headlines on NN suggest might take place. What would Wolves hope to gain anyway because even if they won, they’d have a player on their hands who doesn’t necessarily want to be there. Where did this story actually come from I wonder? Well, The Athletic, often the more reliable news outlet suggested that Wolves had simply held talks with the player’s agent which is very different to ‘signing a pre-contract agreement’.

What other stories are there relating to Arsenal and transfers?

  • Cheick Doucoure – RC Lens midfielder Doucoure is attracting plenty of interest from Premier League sides this summer, with Arsenal among the interested parties (Daily Mirror).
  • Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus – Arsenal are considering a double swoop for Manchester City stars by adding Zinchenko and Jesus to their list of summer targets. (Daily Mail, May 27).
  • Cody Gakpo – PSV are hoping to keep Gakpo at the club by creating a special financial package as they fend off interest from several high-profile European sides, including Arsenal. (Daily Mirror)
  • Mathias Olivera – Arsenal want to sign Getafe left-back Olivera according to reports in Italy, another hint that Nuno Tavares might not have a long-term future at the Emirates. (Daily Mirror)
  • Luis Sinisterra – Arsenal’s pursuit of the Feyenoord winger has been handed a major boost as the player has admitted that he will sit down to consider his future at the end of the season. (Sunday Mirror)

By the time the transfer window shuts, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the number of players linked to Arsenal hit triple figures. Alvaro Morata links are probably nothing other than laziness as each time a transfer window comes around, his name pops up but this time, Arsenal are “very close” to securing his signature say Football London. Logic alone suggests otherwise. He’s 29 years old so doesn’t really fit into the “process” and he’s not prolific enough. Didn’t he struggle at Chelsea a few years ago? Why, other than the fact he’s Spanish, would Mikel Arteta think he’s right for Arsenal now? I think I’d rather a 35 year old Luis Suarez for free! lol

Still, only three more months of it….. Enjoy.

The transfer merry go round is just taking off , I would like to think that our leaders have studied their team and seen where we are weak and where we are not . Their prime directive is to plug the gaps in our squad and to supplement it accordingly.
We keep getting linked to wingers but do we need one ? We have a definite shortage of a goalscorer even if Nketiah stays and if he doesn’t then it’s two plus Balogun .
We need full back cover as we can’t rely on Tierney’s fitness or Tomiyasu for that matter albeit whilst White can go wide right to cover him on the left can we rely on Tavares to improve quickly enough or do we buy another.?
Midfield we have secured Elneny for the duration which is good for cover but Xhaka and Partey need more and Lokonga is one for the future . Every link for a midfielder seems to want Partey in exchange , the players that we want gone and have been on loan seem to be coming back. Torriera , Maitland Niles , Mari all seem not to be required by the clubs they were loaned to.
So we have a juggling act to perform and no doubt the papers , talk sport and Sky will keep us up to date with all the news / rumours , downright lies and agent inspired fiction and we will swallow them or not.

Ah, there is life out there. Lol

One would certainly like to think the club know what we need and get things done soon. Don’t want to be scratching around on DD.

Its logical Cicero, beam me up Scotty.

I had to chuckle at the Morata link, that has desperate agent linking his player to Arsenal to jazz up interest written all over it.

Sinisterra is current because he was on TV the other evening so it’s normal to start linking him to all and sundry – not interested personally, he’s no better than Nelson who we already own.

As for the others in your post Rico, well I don’t really know any of them, not seen any of them even on YouTube and although Gakpo crops up regularly I doubt if he’s a game changer so he’s welcome to jog on if he so pleases.

It’s all a load of bollocks, bores me rigid just roll on August 31st.

I think the Zinchenko link is bullshit, his agent wants to carve a better deal for Olex.

I don’t know the seriousness of the Sinisterra gossip, but he is a remarkable player. Probably ahead of Saka and Martinelli, but due to the differences between the PL and the Erdevisie we wouldn’t know until he is tested here. Applies to Gakpo and Sangare too – the latter is a crazy good defensive midfielder, who would surely elevate Arsenal.
I would prefer to buy all 3 of them, but would be happy with one.

Thierry Henry is recommending Arteta to sign Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku, he would cost around £60million.

The 24-year-old has played in 51 games this season and scored an impressive 35 goals alongside providing 20 assists in these games. Nine of these goal contributions had come from matches in the Champions League, showing that Nkunku can compete at an elite level.

  8. pbarany says:

Nkunku is indeed a great player Cicero, and have the playing style – maybe not the qualities yet – of Bergkamp.
However there are 2 limiting factors not to follow Henry’s recommendation.

First, currently there is no position for a Bergkampesque secondary striker in Arteta’s 4-2-3-1.
We have the AM position – but already have 2 world class player there, I don’t think further competition would bring much benefit here – plus the ST; and despite Christopher’s outstanding statistics, he is not the classic #9 Arsenal is looking for at the moment.

Secondly he is a player beyond our reach. Unfortunately. Not the 60M, which is hefty, but reasonable for such quality player, but rather because he is already courted by Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

He was a young player at PSG, and Emery wanted to sign him 3 years ago, as they had a great relationship there. As far as I know he didn’t get the nod from the board, albeit wouldn’t have cost much; Nkunku ended up joining Red Bull Leipzig a month later for 11.7M. I’m afraid he is another player on the list to haunt us: we didn’t have the balls/foresight ti sign him when he was available and affordable, and now he is out of our league…

Commiserations to the dippers, but deserved. They’ve been second best all year. Shame!
    Not😢

  10. Cicero says:

Typically, Liverpool are demanding an enquiry into the causes of the delayed start to the CL final. Regardless of the fact that it was caused by their own fans, thousands of which tried to enter the stadium with fake tickets.

Liverpool Football Club. Always the Victims.
