The Greatest Arsenal Players of All Time

Football is one of the most popular sports in the world. Every year billions of viewers from across the world, tune in to watch their favourite football matches. And out of all the football matches in the world, it’s the English Premier League that is the most sought after. Teams like Arsenal and Manchester United have crazy fans spread across the planet who wait with bated breath for their favourite stars to hit the stadium.

Arsenal especially has a very tight network for fans also because it’s one of the most successful football clubs of all time. Football is huge in England just like rugby is big in New Zealand enough for EA Sports to release a game as described here. Originating from Islington in England, Arsenal is one of the oldest clubs and their fans are known as Gooners which comes from the original name of the club – Gunners. The team has had some legendary players see them through the years and we have made a list of some of the greatest players ever.

Thierry Henry

Anyone who follows football will agree hands down that Thierry Henry was the greatest footballer to have ever represented Arsenal. His fantastic career includes 228 goals and over 90 assists. Quite simply, there has never been anyone like Thierry Henry. He is currently a Major League Soccer coach for Montreal Impact as reported in this article.

Dennis Bergkamp

Dennis was one of the first footballers to bring a kind of technical ability and skill that was almost an innovation in England. Suddenly, this wasn’t a game but a professional set up and his perfectionism just upped the level and changed Arsenal forever. He took Arsenal to their first ever Premier Leagure title in 1997/1998. In his 11 year career, he also took hom the PFA Player of the Year as well as the FWA Footballer of the Year titles.

Liam Brady

Liam Brady also known as Chippy was an Arsenal favourite. His technique and skill had always mesmerised his fans and his 1979 win against Manchester United is still remembered as a fantastic game. He even won two Serie As.

Tony Adams

Tony Adams was not just a great club captain but he was also a fantastic leader for England’s national team. He was known in the 90s for his back four so much that it became something of a British institution and was even referred to in the movie The Full Monty. His legendary match was the one against Everton, something that fans still remember to this day.

Robert Pires

Robert Pries was solely responsible for the crazy left flank attack in Arsenal. With players like Ashley Cole and Thierry Henry to pass to, this was a formidable team. Pires had his peak in the 2001/02 season when he won the FWA Player of the Year. His big goal against Aston Villa is still the kind of stuff that you won’t believe unless you saw it. And we definitely recommend watching it.

Some of the other players we definitely would like to include in this esteemed list are Ian Wright, Charlie George and Cliff Bastin. Does this list match the one you have?

    Forever the imponderable ,
All time is an impossible task and obviously this article would seem to have been set up by a 13 year old that looked up google to see who Liam Brady was.
Jack Kelsey ,Frank McLintock , Charlie George , George Armstrong , from the sixties and early seventies . My Dad always said Ronnie Rooke from his time and grandad said Drake and Bastin .
We all have our heroes and we all have our time . In mine I believe that technically the best was Bergkamp , but that’s not to decry the efforts of many others that my not have been so talented but wore the shirt with pride , which is just as important in my eyes

Good Morning to the Lady of The House and all fellow Gooners in residence,

A good start to the list with my two favourite players. I can’t speak of Liam Brady as I never saw him play.

Big Tony was a fantastic player and captain for our team, but after he retired from playing often blotted his copy book with petulant and ill advised comments about the manager and the club. He seemed to think he was owed a coaching job at the club, but he never distinguished himself in his opportunities elsewhere. However, we could certainly have used and needed a player like him over the last decade or two. He certainly would not have put up with the disinterested and/or uncommitted players we often had on the field. He was well known for giving players a kick up the backside, figuratively and literally, if they weren’t giving 100%, Can you imagine what he would have done with the likes of Arshavin and Ozil?

I and our team miss the goodnatured cockiness and silky skills of Sir Bobbie.

If we have TH14 and DB10 on the list, surely we should have PV4.

How about Ian Wright Wright Wright, another one of our top scorers?

Ha ha Potter, I hoped you realise it’s not written by me.

I have many players on my list. Their importance being relevant at the time players a big part. Arshavin is a good example. He’ll never be remembered as being an Arsenal great, but for our top four chances, he was huge.

Potter – “… the efforts of many others that my not have been so talented but wore the shirt with pride , which is just as important in my eyes” – a very important point and all too true.

I remember when many people were criticizing our great Brazilian Irishman Gilbert O’Silva with comments like “What does he do?” Those became much rarer when he was out injured for some weeks and his quietly efficient and hard work were clearly missed.

Hi Rico and all as you mentioned there are a lot of great players but I am going for David Seaman after all a good goalkeeper is worth his wait in gold

  6. Sue says:

Brady was before my time… love all the others mentioned though!
Wrighty will always have a special place in my heart, as he’s the reason I became a gooner!!

Willian has undergone his medical and there’s talk of him being announced on Wednesday, as well as Auba on Friday.. all I can say is – about bloody time!!
Being reported that Medley is going on loan to Gillingham…

Zak Swanson has joined Dutch side MVV Maastricht on loan for the 2020/21 season.

Zech Medley has joined League One side Gillingham on loan for the 2020/21 season.

According of Transfermarket.com George Lewis signed for Arsenal on July 1st…

George is a 20 year old Norwegian/Rwandan winger, with a lot of pace, who seems set to join the U23’s, much as Martinelli a year ago.

I wonder if the guy who initially scouted, if he was sacked last week?

Scott – Bendtne????????? Have you had a touch of frost this Oz winter or is your tongue firmly in your cheek?

    How’s life in NSW?

  10. Potter says:

I asked a Norwegian friend about George Lewis . His son plays midfield in under 23 football in Oslo but he says that he has never heard of him .

  11. ScottfromOz says:

CG, that’s Lord Bendtner to us mere mortals hahahaha
All things considered, things are pretty good here mate.
How about in your part of the world?

  12. Canadian Gooner says:

Scott – Lord or not I, and I’m sure some of his teammates and Arsenal staff, found him to be a right royal pain in the backside. Truly a legend in his own mind, but few if anyone else’s.

Things here are good. I have a new grandson born late March, but I didn’t have an opportunity to see him till the end of June. Due to COVID, I hadn’t seen the rest of my older son’s family nor my daughter and her partner since Christmas. We managed to get the whole clan together for a weekend camping.

I watched the FA Cup final with my younger son and his two children played quietly so we managed to enjoy the whole game. The team raised our spirits in these trying times and gave my older son a great birthday present. The summer has been good so far, mostly clear and warm with a few hot days, but nowhere near as hot as NSW in summer.

How are your hounds (Rocky et al) doing at the races?

  13. ScottfromOz says:

    Nik certainly was unique hahaha
We’ve had a wet and wild winter so far, which is good to be honest-we can always use the rain!!
Dogs are going well, one in particular has won 12 from 26 starts and at a very decent level.
Hoping she goes on with the job over further distances and could be anything, so fingers are crossed.
Family are well, business is improving and most of all, we are surviving 🙂
