Another day in this strange world. People are dying whilst others continue to treat this Covid-19 virus as if it’s no worse than a common cold. Idiots all of them, and you if you’re one of them. Boris Johnson is giving us a bit of freedom to roam safely but if we as a country abuse it, a lockdown will follow. I don’t want that, do you?
Arsenal FC remains closed for business. According to the Daily Mail, club doctor Gary O’Driscoll has been in discussions with medical staff from across the Premier League before deciding whether to drag the players away from their settees and Netflix. The two week self-isolation period will come to end tomorrow so a return to training might be on the cards. I guess there’ll be some kind of monitoring of each player as they return, something as simple as a temperature check before they step foot on the premises. As well as a test for the virus no doubt. I’m guessing of course or applying a little logic. Either way, maybe training will resume soon even though the league is on hold for another six weeks or so.
In the meantime, there’s little going on in the Arsenal world. Transfer gossip is just getting going which is not only boring but probably quite far fetched. As we’ve constantly been told, Arsenal are not in a great place as far as having a major transfer kitty which is probably why the back pages and newsnow headlines are focusing on players who are out of contract this summer. Newcastle midfielder Matty Longstaff is one, Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren is another. Longstaff is an interesting one I think as he’s young, English and a defensive midfielder who scores the odd goal. If Mikel Arteta plans to add power and height to his midfield, Longstaff is not the answer. In my opinion, nor is Dejan Lovren for our defence. This Arsenal squad needs more power, physicality and pace from front to back I think. Footballers who are on their way up, not on their way down.
Just thinking about transfers seems odd really. Not because it’s still only March, but because no one can move. Countries are in lockdown, sport has been suspended and there is no sign of the season restarting. Playing behind closed doors is a pipe dream in my opinion. An unnecessary risk for far too many.
Over the next few weeks, I’m going to dig out a few classics thanks to Youtube. Here’s one I think you might enjoy. A night in Milan when no one gave us a chance of getting a result.
Oh those days….
Stay safe guys and stay healthy…
Nice one, Rico… along with the YouTube classic 👍 So nice to watch some football right now
Bloody hell, where are all these rumours coming from? Lovren and Longstaff.. sheesh!! We can do better surely….
Well, it’s another nice day… walked the dog before going to work… oh and the soaps are on tonight! Yay!! How sad is it, that I’m excited about that hahahaha!!!
Plus.. there has been talk of Chris Wood and Calvert-Lewin as potential replacements for Aubameyang…. smh!!! Unbelievable…..
Morning all and thanks Rico, I dont know how you have the spare time to keep doing all these posts!
I`ve been on to my local MP to see about the government giving away free Spud shirts……………this will guarentee social distancing!
Another beautifull day in the Duchy where the locals are in for a treat if they walk past my property as I will be in the garden topless doing stuff and if they are blind then they are still in for a treat as my abs spell six pack in braille!
Thanks Sue. These stories are made up I’m sure..
Lc, I have an ex Toots player in my house right now, any message? 😂
Shit!!!………………. McDonalds are closing as of today!!!…………..if you have a spare Big Mac that fell down the back of the seats or a McFlurry down your knickers they could be worth a fortune on EBAY!…………….even a Cheese Burger wrapper will make money as some addicts will pay a fortune to sniff it!
I hope you have sanitised him thoroughly! hahaha……………….and I dont think you would publish what I`d love to say! hahaha
Come on Rico, spill the beans which ex-spud is it? 🙂
LCM its not so much about who the spuds player is but more the point why is he letting in a spuds player at all must of lost a bet I guess
Stuart Beavon Lc.
Idiots, Rico, or simply people who’ve been totally misled by China and even our own governments???
Very harsh call imo.
My mind has changed dramatically this past 48 hours on the severity of this.
Amazing how receiving accurate information can suddenly make us smarter 🙂
What exactly are you doing to that ex spud Rico?! 😜 hehe!!
Our PM here in the Uk Scott has made it very clear what’s expected of us imo. I don’t think I’m being harsh at all.
England isn’t the world though.
We in Oz have had this downplayed until very, very recently, so to label people idiots is indeed harsh.
Now, we are seeing lockdowns happening everywhere and it’s hitting home.
Ha ha Sue, he played for Reading too so I’ve forgiven him for his mistake during his early career..
I bet he’s relieved 🤣
Being English/British Scott, I tend to talk about what’s going on here in the Uk, it’s those idiots flocking to our beaches, parks etc I’m referring to, not what you are doing in Oz because I don’t follow your news. I don’t know how you guys are dealing with what’s going on.
We barely touched on the subject Sue, not much to talk about when it comes to the Toots.. lol
Rico, we went down the path of some tightening of rules and regulations, giving the public the chance to do the right thing but idiots did the same thing here-heading to the beach etc etc etc
Many were backpackers, fact, but when they attend a beach with 8 foot high fences and break through, they can’t blame the language barrier lol
Now, bars, pubs, clubs etc etc are closed.
Cafes and restaurants are take away only.
Shops, pharmacies etc are open.
A hell of a lot of of businesses are having staff work from home where possible.
Schools are open but the government is advising us to keep kids at home if possible.
All of this has happened just in the past 48 hours, so it’s been a massive turnaround.
Those on welfare are having a lovely old time as their benefits have been doubled in a lot of cases, including utter scumbags who’d never work a day in their life!!!
Employees losing their jobs or even hours are being fast tracked onto welfare which is great.
Small to medium businesses are being given subsidies for staff, interest free loans to buy equipment, a cash injection and the like.
Sole traders can jump straight to welfare if they’re not making money.
My issue is I’m a small business-one staff member only being me hahahaha
As I’m a company and not a sole trader, I’m kind of stuffed as I’ve slipped through the cracks but I’m sure that’ll be sorted at some point.
I’m working through because I have to.
I’ve got clientS who have new kitchens which are literally illegal to cook with until they’ve had a Splashback installed but I’m taking all the measures possible to ensure everyone’s safety.
The single biggest problem I see is those packing into trains, which are still running and though commuters are lower in numbers, it’s still bloody impossible to remain a safe distance from the next person.
On this welfare issue, I’d be better off right now shutting up shop, going into “JobStart”, having my wife tell Centrelink we’ve split up and are simply living in the same house of four sons sake so she could go on the single mother’s pension.
We’d bring home app. $3,500.00 a fortnight!!!
No, I’d never do that, but the incentives, as they stand, are for people to NOT work, rather than bust an Arse trying to keep a pissy little business like mine going lol
We will survive though.
Aussies are a tough breed 🙂 🙂
Scott, make your mind up. You’ve just told me I’m harsh for calling people idiots when you’ve just done the same.
There is a lot of fake news being spread, listening/reading it all is foolish imo.
Listen to our own governments and follow the rules. To me it’s that simple.
Yes, people are going to suffer job losses etc and that’s going to be really hard on those affected but speaking about Britain only, the government in my opinion, is trying to do all it can to help financially and it’s expected today to announce further help for the self employed.
No I haven’t, Rico.
It’s absolutely clear that my suggestion was that those who know the facts and still do the wrong thing are idiots.
The post seemed to label everyone doing the wrong thing idiots.
I’m pretty proud of our Governments handling of things and while plenty will try to rort the system, that’s hardly the Governments fault.
Such a shame the Chinese government didn’t do a damn thing to protect the rest of the world until things had gotten out of hand.
Anyway, I’m off to bed.
The sun will come up tomorrow and hopefully the next day 🙂
Stay safe everyone!!!
That’s your perception only Scott. Read it again and you’ll see.
It’s a beautiful day here in Norfolk, I’m just back from a three and a half mile walk over farm tracks and public footpaths, through fields and forest. The walk starts and finishes about twenty five yards from my front door and I didn’t see a single pedestrian the whole way, just a tractor driver safe in his cab, we exchanged a smile and a thumbs 👍 up.
Hi Scott and Rico I don’t know who to trust our prime minister say’s one thing but the premier of Victoria say’s something totally different.— but it makes you wonder when you see on the news that beaches in Sydney are closed then they show people pulling the signs down and entering the beach
I just hope this virus goes away soon.
I don’t know what you call it in England but I have 2 children who attend scope ( formally the spastic society ) and today they informed us that they are closing any were up until 2 months or longer that tells me that they think it could get worse yet.
Scott we have done similar things here and protected a fair percentage of the population but as with you there is a large number that have fallen through the cracks .
Both Cicero and I have similar problems , so far it’s not clear whether we qualify or not. People on PAYE are well sorted 80% of their pay guaranteed , well that covers the civil servants who surprisingly drew up the deal. The self employed are being left in Limbo and people on single hour contracts are now realising how the big business moguls have been taking advantage for ages .
My wife and I will survive providing that we don’t snuff it but probably not in the way we had planned and certainly not as we wanted.
Our tenants have announced that they will struggle to pay their rent after about 2 months . Their business is falling flat on it’s face and they have 3 kids under 10 .With the supermarket chaos it’s getting harder to feed them and the demand is going up now that they are home 7 days a week..
Troubling times and despite there being many people knuckling down to get through it ,there are idiots out there and they are not helping the majority.
At 1st I was afraid, I was petrified,
There was no loo roll down at Aldi and I nearly cried.
Oh I spent so many nights just thinking how you did me wrong,
I used to wipe,
And now I’m forced to just drip alone
No anti-bac !
No bloody soap,
and if you think you’re buying pasta well you’ve got no bloody hope !
I would have bought that box of eggs, I would have rationed out my bread,
If I’d have known for just one second everyone would lose their head !
Go on now go, walk out the door !
All you bloody stockpilers,
You are not welcome any more !
Weren’t you the ones who just bought all the sodding beans ?
You selfish gits !
I hope you spill them down your jeans !
Oh no not I, I won’t panic buy!
Oh as long as I have alcohol, I know I’ll stay alive,
Though I can’t buy my usual cheese,
This will not bring me to my knees
And I’ll survive, I will survive, hey, hey !
It took all the strength I had not to fall apart,
There was just apples and 1 carrot in my shopping cart,
And I spent hours walking round just feeling sorry for myself,
The empty store, with boxes strewn across the floor
And you’ll see me, somebody who,
Cannot buy anything she came for, and it’s all down to fecking you
And frickin Reg from down the road is such a selfish blimmin git
Because he stockpiled all the loo roll so nobody else can have a s@*t !
Go on now go, walk out the door !
All you bloody stockpilers,
You are not welcome any more!
Weren’t you ones who just bought all the sodding cakes
Can’t you make a crumble,
Do you people not know how to bake ?
Oh no not I, I won’t panic buy !
Oh as long as I have alcohol, I know I’ll stay alive,
Though I can’t buy my usual cheese
This will not bring me to my knees
And I’ll survive, I will survive !
Thought I would share
🤣🤣🤣🤣 absolutely brilliant, Potter 👏 love it!!
You know I can somehow hear Gloria Gaynor making a hit single out of that with just one or to minor changes to the lyrics.
I propose Potter of the Broads for Poet Laureate. Do I hear anyone second that?
It’s that good I’m going to have to share it… hope that’s ok, Potter??
No problem I got it from a friend in Spain
Thank you 🙂👍
Couple from FB………………the serious one……………
THIS IS THE UK RIGHT NOW….!!!!!!!!!!!
Public: how can I pay my rent
Boris: grants and freezing mortgages
Public: what about my business
Boris: 12months interest free grants
Public: what about my kids
Boris:close schools
Public: what about my job
Boris: your employer cannot sack you due to this pandemic period
Public:What about my wages
Boris: pay 80% of your wages
Boris: please stay indoors as much as possible and avoid contact
Public: fuck off.
Asked to do 1 simple thing and we as a nation struggle. Stop being selfish bastards and for once in your fucking life think of others before yourselves!!
Funny one………………….
Plane with 5 passengers on board, Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, the Pope, Nicola Sturgeon and a ten year old school boy.
The plane is about to crash and there are only 4 parachutes.
Trump said I need one. I’ve to sort out the USA!’ Takes one and jumps.
The pope said ‘I need one, I’ve to sort out the Catholic Church.’ He takes one and jumps.
Nicola Sturgeon said ‘I’m the smartest woman in Scotland.’ She takes one and jumps.
Boris said to the ten year old “you can have the last parachute. I’ve lived my life, yours is only starting”.
The 10 year old said “Don’t worry, there are 2 parachutes left. The smartest woman in Scotland took my school bag”
Geoff, imo, our PM has been a major disappointment until now, but your current Premier is the most deluded man ever to hold that position in any state of Oz.
It’d be a toss up on who to believe, him or the The Chinese leader, on anything 🙂
Excellent Potter…
Guys. I know we’re all concerned about what’s going on and we want to talk about it etc, but as Scott and I proved earlier, debating it on a footballing website is not the right place.
Please, please guys, let’s keep the Covid-19 related comments from now on, to do with football and/or sport.
There’s too much rubbish doing the rounds…
Sorry if the song lyrics and comments are out of order but sometimes you have to try and lift spirits .
Covid 19 looms above everything it is near news saturation . How many knew that Croatia had a major earthquake yesterday and that Zagreb was badly affected . Football connection Robbie Burton is playing for Dinamo Zagreb now.
Not at all Potter, it was funny and we all need our spirits lifting. I’m referring to all the rumours, fake news from the internet and all that kind of stuff.
Nice one Potter, I’ve just sung it as I was making a nice cup of tea.
Now I’m singing the theme tune to Dads Army 😉
A little light relief is welcome in these dire circumstances. Unfortunately football is not around to take our minds off the problems facing us at this time.
The new restrictions announced by the Prime Minister this evening make complete sense. Stay home. Go out only to obtain essential food and medicine and for one exercise related purpose per day.
If the fine weather holds I shall be busy tidying up an overgrown corner of the garden. If the weather turns bad I’ll sort through all the boxes of books stored in the loft. I may even dig out my programme collection from the “Double Season” 1970/71.
Good night folks. 😴
We’re marooned Mr Mainwaring
Don’t panic……….don’t panic!!
Hi Scott totally agree our premier said on Sunday night the schools will not close Monday morning he closed all school’s
New post up now
