That result may have just done us a huge favour!

Morning all,

And no, it’s not a good one is it but who honestly expected any different outcome yesterday?

Of course I hoped, I prayed, I stayed positive in my thoughts right up until Clattenburg blew the final whistle but it wasn’t meant to be.

I’m not going to write a minute by minute blow of the game, I know we all watched it, we don’t need to re-live it do we?

Sadly, the same old thing did us, the inability to take our chances in front of goal, and without surprise, our inability to defend.

We could very well have won yesterday, and as much as it would have given us all a better start to the day, a more bearable day in the office and a smug grin on our face if we saw an old mate who is a Tottenham fan, reality is, a victory would just be short lived because other than bragging rights, a victory would have meant very little, long-term.

Of course, the club will tell us that we need top four to secure Champions League football as it earns the club lots of money  attracts top class players, well we don’t sign that kind of player, so why worry about trying to attract them?

Yesterday’s result may have done us a favour.

It may stop the cracks being papered over, it may make Stan Kroenke think about his pennies and all the empty seats he viewed on his last visit. It make him finally realise that fans want more, especially those who will fill his wallet by committing to next seasons season ticket purchase.

Those empty seats could though be a huge indicator that fans won’t renew, not this time! No amount of transfer spin fed to us will change fans view, not this time surely.

Too many times now we have been fed empty promises and enough is enough. Unless of course he allows/demands Arsene Wenger to finally spend vast amounts of money which will make this squad competitive and does so at the earliest opportunity.

Just thinking about parting with such amounts, must surely bring Kroenke out in a bad rash.

We’ve had money for a while, the latest financial report was no great shock to most, we saw it coming. I know I did!

Since Stan Kroenke took majority control in 2011, he’s done more harm than good when it comes to our squad. Yes, the club have made a few quality signings, but they needed to be added to what we had, not in place of those we sold.

Just think for one minute, add Nasri, Fabregas and van Persie to this current squad and how good would we be?

I know they wouldn’t stop us from conceding goals but reality is, coaching and a purchase of a proper defence minded midfielder would sort a lot of that out wouldn’t it?

But no, Kroenke allowed them all to depart because of one reason or another, probably money and we are now paying the price, we have done for a while.

To get us back on track, Stan Kroenke will have to pay the price, literally but I’m not sure he’s ready to sanction such spending.

Maybe it will all get a bit too much just thinking about spending that kind of money and even he did, I’m not convinced Wenger would spend it.

What if it all gets too much for Arsene Wenger if we fail to secure a top four place, would he walk away?

If so, Kroenke will have to appoint a new manager, he will suddenly have to face a man who will demand cash for players, and not cheap ones either. A man who won’t be quite so loyal I suspect, one who will tell Sky Sports  and other interviewing idiots the truth, unlike Arsene who shields his boss..

Is Stan ready for all of that??

If this middle eastern story is true, Kroenke will never have a better chance to make so much money for doing so little.

If we have to suffer abuse from the Tottenham fans for one season, but by the summer we are owned by a consortium/owner with money and ambition, then it will all have been worth it wouldn’t it?

Wouldn’t it?

On a final note, no mater what a North London Derby means to us all, why do fans have to resort to abuse during a game. Throwing banana skins at Bale and taunting Adebayor about the 2010 gun attack on the Togo team while they were at the Africa Cup of Nations by singing:

Shot in Angola, it should have been you.

Well it’s not nice is it….

That’s it for another day, try and have a good one…..

To those that haven’t watched the recording of the game I would advise them to do so. You come at it now knowing the result and will not be clouded by the will they won’t they uncertainty and should be able to be detatched in your observations. Until you see things for your self you operate on heresay.

The game itself was just a re-run a parody of the whole season , defensive lapses a midfield that goes forward and an attack that is pretty toothless and seems unable to think for itself. Nothing we didn’t already know.

I am interested in the “” Supposed offer ” I can’t help wondering if it’s a sprat to catch an oligarch . Was it floated by Kroenke ? Is it a clue to his selling price ? He has apparently said he isn’t selling , but then the offer apparently has yet to be tabled , so how does he or the press know it’s contents.?

    Morning all.

  2. Mattyboy says:

What a shite game… Shows how shocking we actually our! Got no one on the bench who can make an impact… Defence is circus full of laughs as for the keeper… speechless..

  3. potter says:

Matty , blaming the keeper , not sure . When your left high and dry by your defence it’s hard to be consistent .

  4. Mattyboy says:

It is when your not doing the basics, isnt it his job to control the front four? or position the defence and communicate with them?

  5. potter says:

Yes the back four is his domain but , He does shout at them and his captain and the others choose not to listen.

  6. rico says:

    Morning all.

Potter, the club were bound to say that, nothing has come from SK yet, I hope it does soon. Certainly before the end of the season and I pray it’s a ‘yes, I am off’…

Ches stood no chance with either goal though Matty, the only way those two goals wouldn’t have been scored is if the identical chance fell to one of our players as yesterday, as so many times before of late, they were abysmal…

  7. Mattyboy says:

Just a crisis that has been going on for too long and wengers still doenst address it… When the next fixture is a bayern?

  8. rico says:

    A new spine Lee…

    GK
    CH
    DM
    Striker

And one or two to bolster the squad, only then will we be a true force….

And either get a new manager who can coach/motivate, or Wenger needs to employ some help and bloody listen…

  9. ozgunner10 says:

this is the other issue i have matty – anyone who has played at any level understands the importance of protecting the grass between ball carrier and intended targets – where the hell has this gone from our game now days? Basic fundamentals and Wenger needs to learn his “we’ll shoot them off the park” mentality works only in a school yard (sometimes) and if he’s relying on that, he better buy far better than he has

  10. Mattyboy says:

Well im all game for this take over this has been going on for far to long now.. Yanky boy needs to pack his bags and wenger needs a Dein figure back in his life!! David must of thought what the heck is going on here at the game yesterday.

  11. rico says:

Giroud, and a couple of others so annoy me at times, why do they have this habit of having a shot, it gets saved or blocked etc, and they stand there looking at the sky, or in Giroud’s case, poking his tongue out and scratching his head….

The ball is still in play for goodness sake, concentrate on getting it back, or in a position to muck up another chance!

  12. rico says:

    You and me both Matty.

Ideally, but only my opinion, would be Usmanov now steps up and starts flashing his money at SK, that’s if he is not involved in the ME group but otherwise, I’d rather that if we are to have a foreign owner, lets have one with money and if that means its oil money, then who cares….

  13. Gunnerdna says:

Good morning HH, we all blame our defenders for every goal score but it should never be there was no pressure on the ball from the MF. MA08 is just not working out as a DM, AW need to try kos or verm to try and rescue top 4 hopes.

  14. terry white says:

Most important comment, is your final one about the bananas and Adebayor, we don`t need that.
Kroenke has always said he is in for the long term, our finance after the Emirates screw-up was really to blame for lack of purchases, that is almost gone
While we have £120 million in cash, we also still have some £250 million in bond debt outstanding
However, I think we are begining to see a change in the ownership of top clubs, which I was slow to see. I always thought the Chelsea and Man City owners were sugar daddies, but no, there is a good financial reason for doing what they are doing.
PSG are throwing money around like its going out of style
The entertainment business is where the money is going to be in the future(including football), Kroenke has seen this in the USA with all his ownership of sports franchises.
The building of the Emirates is part of that view of a long term change in Football ownership. Previously, almost all football clubs lost money
No way is he going to sell a cash-cow like Arsenal
He also knows we have to win to retain the fans
Wenger has worked miracles with “cheap” imports, but he is an economist by first profession, he knows we can`t keep doing things on the cheap, we need quality players, which definetly aint going to be cheap. Quality players will only come if the price is right and they have prospects of winning, without them Kroenkes investment is going to fail !
He is too succesful an investor with his own investment advisors to let that happen
At the end of the day, would you rather be a Spurs fan or an Arsenal fan ?, stoopid question
From a long time Arsenal fan, and ex-banker(spelt with a B)

  15. Mattyboy says:

Rico i think the partner ship between AU and ME would be great, lot of money injected into the team to compete with the big boys cause as it is were just falling behind… And im in an office full of Lilly white twats who are not emotional bulling me 🙁

  16. rico says:

Agree on Arteta Gdna, just another case of making do instead of replacing Song as we should have done.

  17. Adam says:

Lee. In times of stress I find crack a great comforter. Non-addictive too and very good for all round well-being. 🙂

  18. rico says:

Terry, but had he not wasted so much money on cheap imports and paid them so handsomely, we could have bought proper players.

Quality over quantity is surely much better.

Even Wenger the economist should have seen that….

  19. rico says:

Just the five Adam, with our defence, even that wouldn’t be enough….

Long time until that game comes around, nine day break now….

  20. emma says:

rico – Good post. Even without the oligarch or oil money, the money in the reserve is sufficient to take us to the next level. But are we willing to spend it or is the fund made available to AW.

Gdna – Good point on kos/verm as a DM. Arteta is not aggressive and too slow to play in that role. Wouldn’t blame him cause it’s his first season in that role and it requires a lot of attention as it’s the gateway to the defence

  21. rico says:

Wouldn’t be bad would it Matty…

Not organised at the back Gdna and we didn’t have anyone who wanted to score yesterday.

  22. Wavy says:

Is this pantomime a result of Fizman’s legacy. He sold out, on his death bed to a man called cronky, in the belief that the yank would husband his treasured possession to greater glory? If he did then his dying wishes have seriously failed. Far from delivering delicious football in a state of the art stadium we are left with a degrading asset serving up mediocre footballing fare to an ever disaffected crowd of supporters.
I think we can all see what has and is happening to the club, we are following the american investors pattern. Liverpool on a long term dip, man ure bank balance being robbed by Glazers, A villa well god knows, but no cash going in they’re on a serious slide too. Etc. etc.
And Arsenal the cash cow, too. We are being milked dry. Charge big prices and greater the cash that goes into the boards pockets. Starve the investment, eg the team, let the club founder but do just enough not to let it sink and then when the times right sell your share to some arab oil rich potentate whilst stan the man returns to little ol’ ranch, builds a library and writes his memoirs. “How i fucked the English up the Arsenal!”

    Where to next??

  23. Wavy says:

Meant to add, Arsenal 6 Spuds 4
We won on aggregate, not a lot of pleasure in that but ………..it is a crumb of comfort.

  24. rico says:

    Thanks emma.

Same million dollar questions, will AW be given the given the money, will he spend it and the biggest, will he spend it on the right players and not just cheapies…

  25. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all, Nice one Rico.
Were all disappointed with the result, but lets face it,it was on the cards wasn’t it. Of course we now go through the ins and outs and look for excuses. I can see just one excuse for this and that is funding. Was Wenger wrong to have brought Monrel for £8 mill instead of buying a DM or a top striker, and the answer is no. Gibbs has not been seen since Monreal came so his injury was long term as many of his injuries have been. Monreal was a must buy. I can only assume that our £120 mill transfer kitty is pie in the sky. No manager alive would watch this teams performances without throwing money around if the money was there. Supporters are being Hoodwinked in my opinion false promisses to keep our interests but i believe the club to be in financial trouble. I cannot believe that Wenger would sell our best players unless the club really needed the money. I believe were strapped for cash and our only saviour would be a takeover but i dont believe the stories of a consortium. I really cannot see why any prospective investor would want to buy us out. We are publishing reports of major profits but we dont pay off our huge debts and we dont buy expensive players. we have no trophies and the chance of us winning any are zero, so whats the point.I believe Wenger is on a budget and he also helps to ballance the books. his hands are tied and there is no let up. Kroenke has his money tied up and would be hoping an offer comes in, but i think he’s waiting in vain.

  26. rico says:

Without great change Wavy, further adrift, that’s where we are heading.

Something/someone needs to stop this rot, and fast!

  27. emma says:

In all the big games since January we have failed woefully. Against liverpool Chavs, City, Bayern, Scums we have gifted them 2 goals lead. Not good enough. All these leads have being individual errors(goalkeeper, CB, LB, RB, DM). Stats shows that if not for individual errors arsenal would have conceded 12goals till date all season

  28. rico says:

Thanks Sp, we haven’t won there for many a season, so with all that has gone on, i was not surprised we didn’t win.

But the fashion of our loss hurts more than the result, all this talk about how good the totts are, well yesterday they were pretty average yet we gifted them 3 points on a plate…

  29. potter says:

That Steve is why I would not be surprised if this offer was floated by KSE to try and tempt Usmanov to make an offer.

  30. Adam says:

Rico. As we have discussed many times, there have been no consequences for Wenger as he has steered the good ship Arsene toward the rocks for several years now while, rather arrogantly, refusing all help and ignoring all advice. My Titanic analogy, while you were sunning yourself on the coast and feeding seagulls, was tongue in cheek but fair. Well now it looks as though there will be consequences if we do miss out on our single objective, qualification for the CL. It is Gazidis’ job to oversee the way the club is being run and to be constantly ensure that things are improving. I would say that he bears a huge slice of the responsibility for where we are today. Yes I know that Wenger is powerful and takes single-minded self-justification to new levels, but Gazidis has not earned his money since he came and somehow the fact that he was awarded a new bonus for abject failure says a whole lot about Arsenal.
We have ended up with the wrong man in control of the club. He has no history of sporting success but is good at accruing sports clubs and trawling them along the bottom. It is a sadly depressing truth we have to face, but we would be daft to try and make excuses for him, Wenger or Gazidis though I have no doubt the usual plonkers will show up soon and accuse me of not supporting the club. I just cannot support something I love but don’t believe in and I am sure I am not alone in this.
Tantalisingly and cruelly perhaps, we have a way out of the tedious drudgery in the shape of Usmanov and even perhaps this new consortium of bidders. None of us actually know what either of these options would bring but I feel confident that it must be an improvement on what we have. Why would anyone pay £1.5 billion to watch the club slowly sink as Kroenke has?
The board have let Arsenal down big-time and Fiszman must be turning in his grave to see how his choice of owner has sat back and watched all this happen. A plague on all their houses I say. Kroenke could walk away with a huge financial reward for failure but can anyone see this happening? Are we really going to stand by and watch Josh Kroenke who is by all accounts a horribly arrogant young man come onto the board and continue along the same path? I guess we are.
If Wenger and the rest of them had done their jobs properly, Arsenal would have destroyed that Spurs team by a clear 3 goals yesterday. They were ordinary. To have let things slip this far is absolutely bloody criminal.
But the pressure is ramping up and the press smell blood through the acrid stench of their beer and urine stained trousers. It is going to be a bumpy ride I think and there may be some casualties along the way.

  31. stevepalmer1 says:

We are linked with every top player in the world we know that those players will not end up here, they never have. so we just survive, we are struggling big time but we are still in the top half of the table. We are just a medeocha side who have struggled, but without investment we will continue to struggle. Players are slowly losing faith and we are tumbling, very soon we will go into freefall then we are in big trouble.Changeing our manager may bring chnges but without the funding we will inevitably fall faster.

  32. rico says:

All nof which could have been prevented emma, with a bit more organisation, leadership and direction from the manager..

  33. rico says:

Adam. I like that comment, but -2 by the coast, hardly sunning myself 😉

None of us know what this group from the middle east are about, nor what their intentions are, the same can be said of Usmanov.

But I would put my mortgage on both/either would be out to make us a force to be reckoned with.

Unlike the silent one who clearly seems to be hell bent on saving money, spending little and driving us towards the Championship.

Potter, if you are right about the source of this story, and it works. Then good. I just want the toupee and what sit’s below it, gone!

  34. eastsidepaul says:

I think the power Wenger has in the club must go, and that will only ever happen with a change at board room level, would love to see if this Arab money is legit, with that and Usmonv in place the sky is beyond the limit, No need to pull a City and drop stupid money on stupid players. Lets just get rid of our debt, cut ticket prices, buy 11 top notch players, and lets challenge again. We can keep our business models, but lets not have them ruin the club, which is happening now.

Power need to be taken from Wenger, he is there to manage, nothing more, He has to change, we need a solid defence, we need a manager who isn;t afraid to make tactical changes when they are needed, Wenger use to do these things! Why not any more?!

Steve Bould also needs to step up or just leave, he is doing the club no service just sitting on the sidelines scowling, we get it, you’re annoyed about what is going on, you’re in a position of power, do something about it.

The day we’re given real information on these new investors, name, resources, intention etc, every fan should start protesting in and out of the ground to get Kronke out, If needs be no one go to the games, instead protest outside the stadium, I can see his tune changing quick, with a game going on inside and not a person to be seen.

  35. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the Lady of the House and all my fellow Gooners in residence.

Rico – A very good article – SO SAD, but so true. You were right the first time in paragraph six, “earns the club lots of money”. Something or someone has to give OR someone has to go; which is a matter for debate.

  36. rico says:

We don’t need to do a City do we Esp, totally agree.

And, I blame their spending on having a manger who was like a kid in a sweet shop, signing players for the sake of it instead of who they really needed to become a great side.

All wee need is five players who will come in and give us the right balance and a lot more strength.

And that doesn’t mean we have to sign Falcao or similar, although I wouldn’t mind if we did 😉

  37. potter says:

The ground will never be empty, firstly there are those in agreement of how things are being run. Then you have the thousands of photo taking tourists that head to the””Emirates “” to have their photos taken outside and stand in the Aisles as a corner is being taken to show their mates on facebook that they were there. Already the more expensive seats are being abandoned , loads of gaps can be seen so the club must realise that they are on rocky ground. Attendances of 40000 might do it, but that will be hard to achieve.

  38. kel says:

How many home games do we have left? 4 or 5? Im asking My fellow gooners now, stay away from the emirates its the only way to let kronke know we are not Gonna stand idly by and be mugged off!! Kronke may say he’s here for the long term, well a half empty stadium every Wk will soon hit home, and then hopefully if there is an offer he will piss off!.

  39. rico says:

Thanks and morning to you Cg.

I say start at the top…

Lee, I suggest Adam and Ak.

Seriously, I have a feeling that if a new owner came in and AW was accountable, he’d go…

  40. rockyrocastle07 says:

    Morning all

Well that was a bag of shite wasn’t it? The game didn’t have any sort of NLD feel to it. It was a non-event of a match.

We were so toothless up front. I’ve been a fan of Giroud, but am thinking he is just not the man we need. He was so slow to react to everything yesterday. Was Cazorla even playing yesterday? Jack was anonymous in the second half too. Was Jenks injured? I sincerely hope so, otherwise the decision to swap hiim for Rosicky and play the woefully inept Ramsey as a makeshift Right Wing-back is one of his most bizarre subs. Rosicky or Podolski should have been on from the start. Arteta looked like he couldn’t be arsed to track the runners half the time. It was just the same old dross.

  41. Ryan L says:

Great comment at 11.07 Adam, couldn’t agree more.

Now pass the crack pipe – thats to numb my pain not an accusation of what you were on when you drafted that comment.

  42. rico says:

Hi Rocky, couldn’t have put it better myself.

Didn’t Ramsey play at right back against Villa, I guess because we won that one, he thought he try it again….

Jenks was one of our better i thought…

  43. Bradster says:

    Hi all,

The scariest thing I hear is people expecting this team to beat Bayern by more than a 3 goal margin. We’ll be luck with a draw over there.
We only scored one when they used a make shift CB.

  44. Canadian Gooner says:

Rocky – The team have lost their confidence/mojo, call it what you will. We need a real clearout of the deadwood this summer, some major investment in new players, and promotion of promising young players from the Academy. There has to be serious competition for every position. Otherwise, we will continue to have these lacklustre player and team performances.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Silent Stan will sanction the transfer funds. The current or a new manager wont be able to fix the problem either, unless he is provided with adequate funding to rebuild the team. It will be interesting if Arsene does not renew his contract, as no ‘world class manager’ will take the reins of the club if he is not properly funded. We could be worse off. The big question is – who is refusing to spend. Arsene or Silent Stan. My money (sorry for the pun) is on Silent Stan.

  45. rockyrocastle07 says:

Brad – No-one seriously thinks we will score 3 over there. If they do, then I seriously give up!

  46. rockyrocastle07 says:

Hi CG – Agreed. Anyone that comes in will probably be hamstrung by the lack of readily available funds. The club seems happy in keeping it quiet about why the money we apparently have top spend is not being spent. AW or the board (or both) are being far too prudent.

  47. Ryan L says:

Rocky/Rico – agree, Jenks was the most potent attacking outlet that we had yesterday – I obviously use the term potent very loosely !! But because of that straw that I was clutching at during the game, it was a substituition that confused me. But not as much as the fact that it was a substituition that actually didn’t take place in the 70th minute…………………………………….ground breaking !!

  48. Bradster says:

I wonder if Podolski would’ve been better upfront rather than Giroud yesterday? Seems Wenger tried it the first game, didn’t work out and then binned the idea for the rest of the season.
I think Pods downfall is his lack of pace, creativity and first touch. All 3 is Girouds problem too.

  49. Ryan L says:

I can accept that people will dream and hope and think of miracles, but anyone who does seriously believe we will win by 3 in Munich, should actually be committed !! Blimey, you probably have to go back god knows how many games to find when we actually had more than 3 attempts on target !!

  50. Ryan L says:

I don’t think either Giroud or Podolski are cut out to play in this formation. To me they both look like they need to either play off someone or have someone play off them. Which does beg several very obvious questions, but there you go.

  51. ozgunner10 says:

Barring gifts our season is done yet again – sooner or later we’re going to have to get our heads around the fact these Wenger jewels might be replicas and not the real thing at all. When it comes to stepping up to the plate (for years now) we not very good are we?

  52. Canadian Gooner says:

Rocky – Unfortunately, Arsene is old school and will not openly criticise the Board of Directors or owner. He will not emulating Rafa ‘Tinkerman’ Benitez’s recent outburst at Smirnoff Bridge. We may never know for sure where the unwillingness or inability to spend originates.

  53. Canadian Gooner says:

Ryan L – I don’t think Giroud was bought as a lone center forward, but as a partner for the Lying Dutchman van Pursestrings. He was bought to do the job Chamakh was supposed to do, give us an arial presence so we could vary the play, a Plan B, and not have to depend RvP. He has done that. Unfortunately RvP departed after Giroud was bought and was not replaced.

  54. ozgunner10 says:

with so many passengers out there up front yesterday Emma i was surprised he was withdrawn – surely another forward and continue the crosses might have been a better idea?

  55. Canadian Gooner says:

OzG10 – That is a matter of opinion and in the absence of real evidence, yours is as valid as anyone’s. We may find out soon enough if Arsene does not extend his contract.

  56. Ryan L says:

CG – If the manager and board thought VP was going to stay and then they didn’t make replacement plans for his departure when they accepted the bid for him, then they are even more inept than I give them credit for. Especially as we have had a subsequent transfer window since then. However, I don’t think they were naive enough to think that and Grimandi was quoted as saying Giroud was bought to replace VP.

If you are right, it does beg the question why play him as the lone striker if that wasn’t the intent and why not address this in either of the last 2 transfer windows?

  57. emma says:

oz – AW made a tactical blunder. Jenks posed a threat with his surging forwards and defending. His crosses caused a lot of problem for the scums, just that we had a slower version of a striker(Giroud) who should have gotten to the end of this crosses. jenks was our potent threat who was wrongfully sub. Would love to see a kos/sagna pairing as CB. Problem we are having is lack of communication amongst our CB and Keeper

  58. rockyrocastle07 says:

Has Wenger totally lost confidence in Ox? Surely hooking Rambo and putting on either Ox or Rosicky in front of Jenks would have been the better option that making Rambo, the second slowest player on the pitch (behind Merts), try and continually run the length of the pitch (only to put his foot on te ball, twist and turn a few times and play it backwards)?

  59. Ryan L says:

Yep that did make me wonder Rocky, as Jenks proved, that right side was wide open all game, as Spurs effectively played without a leftside of midfield to accomodate Bale’s “free role” and the need for Sigurdson to get sucked in to add another body to the middle of their midfield

  60. Bradster says:

Merts is too slow for us to play a pressing game. With the pace of Lennon and Bale, they were always going to look to get in behind.
We couldn’t use our speedster as they defended deep allowing us no space at all.
Must’ve been easy to defend, Walcott pulling inside, Giroud up front alone and all other mids in the centre and passing it around in front of them. If ever there was width, crosses were poor, only one striker to watch or a useless headerer like Walcott that won’t need marking.
Worse about the one goal they scored was Monreal pushes up for the offside while our slow CB retreat allowing space and playing them on side

  61. emma says:

Playing a highline when you have mert who doesn’t have pace is suicidal. We shot ourself on the foot yesterday

  62. ozgunner10 says:

see if you had of watched Germany (where he has had some cracking games against the worlds best) wouldn’t you know this already if you had half a brain?

  63. Canadian Gooner says:

Ryan L – When Arsene first came to the club, he had a excellent knowledge of non-British players, especially the French. He then built an excellent scouting system which unearthed all those diamonds in the rough at knockdown bargain prices. In the meantime the other clubs in the Premier League have set up their own scouting systems and we have lost that advantage.

However, the club [insert the name(s) of your favourite culprit(s)] refuses to pay market rate for the players it so badly needs. We still buy a few good players, but not enough or of the high caliber we require. Who is/are the real culprit(s) is open to speculation, but having lost our scouting advantage and hampered by the FA regarding commuting distance/time for youth players we need to spend and spend big. If it is Arsene who refuses to spend, the n our BOD &/or owner Silent Stan should be forcing the issue, but they aren’t. If it is Silent Stan who refuses to spend, then Arsene is between a rock and a hard place. Ultimately it comes back to Mr.Kronke and I doubt he will do anything as long as Arsene can make him money.

  64. ozgunner10 says:

you are closer than me CG but trawling the fans pages is seems he is not popular with any of his investments and is known as someone who really doesn’t like the word team investment after he’s acquired his mark? Some very angry fans out there from all three of his sports teams

  65. Canadian Gooner says:

Emma – Again I agree. The BFG has cost us a number of crucial goals this season when he has played too far up the field and couldn’t recover from poor headers/tackles or balls over the top. He is too slow to play against mobile fast breaking teams like the Tiny Totts. If Koscielny was fully fit, he should have played instead.

  66. Canadian Gooner says:

Oz – Yes, Silent Stan is more interested in a profitable team than a winning one, regardless of the sport. Yet, profitable and winning are not mutually exclusive terms. Unfortunately, I don’t see him changing his ways anytime soon. He is a businessman first, last and foremost; not a sportsman.

  67. Canadian Gooner says:

Anyway, that is it for me for today. The game was depressing/frustrating enough without further debate on what we all can see are our major problems. Although, we may differ on whose shoulders the fault for our problems lies.

So, it is good night from me, a good afternoon to most of you, and a good night to our friends in Oz. Till tomorrow fellow Gooners.

  68. George says:

    morning afternoon evening all.

Reading through this , have to say agree with Oz and Emma.

Walmart tash is only interested in a quick buck and Jenks was great yesterday. Also impressed with Rosicky.

Very very disappointed in Theo, thought he was kak yesterday, and alot of people are slating Ramsey, yet I thought he at least tried and as a makeshift risky RB, werent too bad. Not what we needed, but well..

Also worrying thing I have been noticing. Why is Rosicky not starting and 2nd thing, Poldolski 2nd fiddle to OG12, who clearly needs a 2nd striker to play alongside him

  69. SD London says:

    Hi all;

Strange I didn’t feel bad about yesterday’s result.

Yes all goals are as a result of errors but Arsenal just like them at the moment ? 🙂

There was nothing a Song or a DM could have done to prevent that goal , the CBs were just badly positioned. AVB knew this and he asked his boys to exploit it.

At least there was passion on the bench, I saw Wenger and Bould standing up and yelling at the same time, progress 🙂

Never trust what billionaires say(even their kids don’t trust them) Kroenke might sell (money talks).

Oh! by the way , Walcott is the new Invincible man (Released by Universal pictures) 😀

Wenger scares the hell out of me nowadays, Podolski on the bench ? 😮

Hey , anytime Rosicky comes in we play better surely I am not the only one to see this.

Imagine the away fans yesterday , imagine!

  70. George says:

SD, who would you drop to accomodate Rosicky?

Also do you think we were better off with a 4-4-2 yesterday?

Also Oxlade Chamberlain has fallen off the radar…? he hasnt caught Arshavintitis has he?

  71. rockyrocastle07 says:

Yesterday, Ramsey should have been dropped for Rosicky. No question about it. Rambo huffed and puffed but offeren nothing defensively or offensively so he wouldn’t have been missed.

  72. ozgunner10 says:

SD – maybe Ox has misbehaved somewhere along the line, certainly out of favor now it seems?

  73. SD London says:

went to get yogurt; Ginger and Caramel (what a combination , hope it doesn’t disappoint like Wenger and the boys)

Yes thanks Rocky, I would have dropped Ramsey as well for Rosicky.

Why Walcott didn’t play on the wings baffled me, he was in no man’s land throughout.(I blame Wenger)

AVB used flying wingers on both sides it was a relieve it wasn’t more than 2 goals.

Ramsey was rubbish because he was played out of position form the beginning of the season. I appreciate the guy’s willingness because other players would have been frustrated like OX :@

George; The Ox might have complained to Wenger and if it is the Wenger I know , he will keep him on the bench for a long time until he sober up.

Yesterday I would have changed to 4 -3 -3 in the second half,
bring in Podolski for Ramsey and move Carzola back to the middle and move Walcott to the right at the 55th minute (just saying – not wait till 20minutes or 10minutes to the end).

By the way Bould is not the happiest face on football right now (angry)

  74. SD London says:

I suspect Uzman is behind the rumored take over by the Dubai and Qatar consortium.

I can pictured the board in panic mode right now; they will all be sacked and their privileges removed (Director’s box gone)

That will be the day 😀

  75. George says:

Rocky & SD, agree with the strange decisions…There were some odd selections and a few suspect performances from the “better” players. eg Monreal, Caught out a few times, Cazorla had to bale him out a few times as did the Verm.

Ox defo being punished , Poldi is in danger of becoming another Arshavin

Still could’ve been worse if Klingon had played..

    HI Rico

  76. Adam says:

    I have something to confess.
The consortium behind the takeover bid is Lee, Kev, Rocky and myself. We decided that watching The Syrup destroy our club piece by piece was just too painful to endure. We will of course be borrowing the money from Deutsche Bank unless Lee can swing a better deal in the City. We do this in the full knowledge that like our current owner, we will never actually pay it back. Hill-Wood will be the first out of the door, closely followed by Gazidis and the rest of his cronies. We will get Usmanov on board to deal with the financial side of things and we will pay off several players and sell others (you know who) for whatever we can get for them. A large field will be allocated for Seb to spend his remaining days days grazing. Fillies might or might not be provided for him, depending on the organic quality of his manure.
Our aim will be to establish the club where it should be once again. We will fight for every trophy and 4th place will be seen as abject failure. A lot of people may be shot. Mediocrity masquerading as success, bullshit and telling the fans a pack of lies will not be tolerated, even slightly. Kroenkes, of whatever description will not be allowed within the perimeters of the stadium. In fact nobody who sold their shares to this ghastly man will be welcome. Ever.
The manager will be announced later.

  77. DutchGooner10 says:

I could manage Arsenal just by acquiring a ‘regular’ status on Highbury House. Sophisticated suggestions, educated insights and frequently quintessential judgment. Truly unique place offering the best.

Thing is, our Arsenal has been navigated towards a poker club, big pile of money on the table Vegas-style, suspense is killing, who will get the Royal Flush sweating through an all-in shootout?

We, us fans, are not at the table to call bluff, fold a bad hand or raise the stakes to dent arrogant confidence. We were merely invited to bulk the prize money.

  78. Wavy says:

Arsenal to ban banana thrower for life! Shock horror.

I presume the evil thrower of old White Hart Lane will be accused of racism as that was what happened to John Barnes etc. i wasn’t aware that the yellow self contained super snack was an implied insult to the welsh race! However, if it was an implied attack on Bale’s features and his nickname, well I say chaps that’s really just not playing the game, what!
Can’t approve of any thing thrown by a spectator at a player on the field at all. quite out of order, but a banana – hardly a lethal weapon! And a life sentence doesn’t seem to fit the crime, or am I going soft in my old age?

  79. rockyrocastle07 says:

I did laugh when I saw the lino pick the ‘nana up! thrre’s no way people should be chucking stuff on the pitch at anyone, for any reason… But sometimes the wrong things in life make you chuckle….

  80. rockyrocastle07 says:

Adam… Can’t believe you let the cat out of the bag! Although you did omit the fact we are erecting a bronze statue of Sqid in his honour, in his usual position…. SItting on his arse in the stands counting his money.

  81. SD London says:

Yes Wavy it is the age 🙂 (jokes)
But I must say nothing should be thrown at players , if not they wouldn’t feel safe and we will never see 100 percent commitment anywhere again.

At least we get 75.12 percentage now so we dont want it to get to 30 percent.

By the way , Spot on ADAM, all that sold shares to Kroenke should be banned from Emirates , yes including David Dein, Lady Bracwell, Peter Hill Wood.

What where they all thinking, Kroenke is a proper business man , he didn’t hit the jackpot legitimately of suspiciously like chanv owner , just to mention a few.
He(Kroenke) will therefore count profit as success and will not then give that profit to Wenger to buy an over priced (surely all ) player for £30Million.

So we are stuck with Kroenke , so blame those share selling traitors.
Seeing David Dein’s face yesterday gave me delight he looked really pissed , I was like yes that is what happens when you get yourself sacked from the board and sold your shares to the guy the board hated.

Yes that is what happens when you do that plus you get Walcott to be your highest goal scorer.

  82. DutchGooner10 says:

    Afternoon Goonerdom worshippers,

    About this nectar consortium.

Wasn’t the Sun the same paper that caused Wenger to loose his marbles and tighten his bum preventing the sweat of his back lubricating his crack at the post-Rovers presser; suggesting an 2year extension was practically signed by pencil, cuz a Bic pen wasn’t around?

I believe The Sun has a birdie on the inside no longer to be caged, gleefully chirping the full extent of board room issues. The 2 year extension is part of the bid package, me thinks. Securing the investment with an economist at the helm, guiding the no-limits transition period.

Why does this make sense? Well doesn’t Wenger himself touts in regular intervals he shunted offers of equal conditions at PSG, Man Shitty, etc. Giving him a shackle free reign.

It could be his stubbornness does have a pay-off. This consortium has given up hope of transferring him to means already in place. Now they have opted to bring the means to him.

Just a wildly associative thought, shot in total darkness I confess.

  83. Wavy says:

Do we think then that thenvisionary and philosopher king of the Arsenal Board, PHW was right when he said,We don’t want his sort here.” About Cronky wonky, but the rest pf them just poo pooed him? Or was ot the death of Fizman thatrompted the rest pf the sychopantic members who then put the squeeze on and sold at what they thought was the bestrice for them and at the same time ‘ stuff it up the fat Uzbec’s arse!”

Wharever they did and why ever they did it they managed to drop Arsenal plc right in the spft and smelly!

What next? And for how much? And at what cost to the supporting publc? And for how long?

  84. Wavy says:

Just reread the previous post. I seem to be missing several ‘p s’. I wonder why, maybe I’ just a little peed off

  85. George says:

Kroenke will sell to the BFU probably end of the season. If Dein comes back, then le prof will be Mgr, if not we will buy the league and end up like a better version of Chelsea

  86. Adam says:

The cynic in me just can’t see Kroenke selling. Disastrous for Arsenal the club and it’s loyal fans but ….

  87. Adam says:

Wavy. I imagine that the best thing Kroenke had going for him was that he was not Usmanov. Seems very short sighted now though.

  88. Lee says:

Adam, you’ve spilled the beans to the master plan…
A bloke in the office who went yesterday reckons he’s seen milk turn quicker than BFG! Made me chuckle….

  89. Adam says:

Lee. Sorry mate. Amidst the despair and the ghastly realisation of where we are going, I thought I would let everyone know that all is not yet lost. 🙂

  90. Lee says:

The sad thing though they weren’t miles better than us….if only we’d added 10 world class players in January I reckon we would of drawn yesterday! 😉

  91. Adam says:

If you looked at our squad in September you really had to have doubts as to whether Giroud would be up to it and if Gervinho would have a golden second season. Podolski? Possibly. Cazorla? Yes. We knew the defence was poor but hoped that Steve Bould would be allowed to do a job with them. For me I thought that January was our best hope. Buy some proper players, let SB do some proper coaching and perhaps, just perhaps something might happen. But no. Once again we were spun a horribly deceptive pile of shite and many of us knew that this could be the year when Wenger’s unbelievable luck ran out. How can a club like Arsenal not have a top class forward? How is that possible? Please tell me because I can’t work it out at all. When the manager tells you that Gervinho is the best player in Africa and exactly what we need, you really should start calling the men white coats. He might see him in training every day but I see him on the pitch and he is tosh. Not his fault, but a fact.

  92. DutchGooner10 says:

    Adam

Equally plausible, money makes reputations and an outrageous offer filling headlines for weeks could be the sort of public leverage Stan requires for even bigger ventures on his home soil, taking him up a few ranks of the Forbes500. The sort of ambitions his like adorn to.

Being the disingenuous sportsman he is, business reputation will come first.

  93. SD London says:

What hurts was not losing , it was seeing Gallas giving a cheeky smile for ages before coming in- he was enjoying it.

  94. SD London says:

Well , when a situation is like this in any institution like arsenal and things are just getting from bad to really worse it is always a sign that a change is coming.

We will all be shocked at the news at 7 o’clock one day.

Either Wenger sacked, Bould resigns or sacked, board sacked , Arsenal bought or Arsenal sold, something is about to happen soon.

  95. SD London says:

Rico, they are not even going to renew his contract. I still think Wenger sold him too soon and making Fabregas captain was too soon as well.

Gosh !! Wenger has really been getting things wrong for a while now. Wao.

  96. rico says:

5.09 Adam. Spot on re January, that was AW’s chance to make amends.

Bet he wishes he had now……

  97. DutchGooner10 says:

    SD London

Add to that the fire sale of Toure to appease Gallas the Tantrumnist for the remaining season.

  98. rico says:

Adam. I think Kroenke will sell. IF this story has backbone, mind you, anything Arsenal lacks one of those these days….

  99. Adam says:

Rico. I thought that article you posted made the likelihood of it being true doubtful. What, apart from just a feeling, makes you think he will sell?

  100. DutchGooner10 says:

Why do we still have employee relationships with Denmark’s George Best? We can manage enough headlines on our own, thank you very much.

Arsenal may find themselves with a new striker shortly if Juventus have their way. Nicklas Bendtner could be finding himself back at the London club after being caught drink driving in Copenhagen. The striker is already thought to be in danger of missing the rest of the season with a groin injury and Juventus are lumbered with paying for him.

According to Sporten in Denmark the Italian club are looking at the possibility of being able to sack the player and end his loan agreement from Arsenal early. They’ve already contacted their legal representation, according to Sporten, and have learned that it would be hard to fire him but are exploring the possibilities to see if they can manage it.

Bendtner was caught driving the wrong way down a road in Copenhagen according to the Daily Mail, but he took to his own Twitter account to say he’d been caught for ‘mild drink driving’, if that makes him forget which part of the tarmac he’s supposed to be on then we can only imagine what he’d get up to if he’d committed ‘major drink driving’.

The striker’s attitude toward the offence won’t please Juventus, who are already angry that they found out about it through the Italian press. The Turin club are also annoyed because they trusted him to have treatment in Denmark and have even paid for that, so to hear of him partying and getting drunk is hardly what they expected in return.

If Juventus do manage to send him back, Bendtner wouldn’t be able to play for Arsenal this season even if he did get fit because he’s not on their Premier League designated list.

  101. rico says:

Adam. Because I don’t believe he cares about Arsenal the football club and it being successful.

He cares about money, and if this offer is really out there, he’ll never make so much return on his money as this….

  102. DutchGooner10 says:

Stan is just small fish ending up in a sea factory’s trawler net, inevitably.

MOSCOW, March 4 (RIA Novosti) – For the second year running, Russia’s mining magnate Alisher Usmanov retained his position as Russia’s wealthiest man on the Forbes magazine’s 2013 list of the world’s richest people.

Tycoon Usmanov is Russia’s wealthiest person on the list, published on Monday, with a net worth of $17.6 billion, ranking 34th on the magazine’s list of the world’s richest people, which includes 1,426 billionaires.

Usmanov, owner of the Metalloinvest metals giant and a major shareholder in London’s Arsenal Football Club, also topped the Forbes magazine’s annual list of Russia’s richest people back in April 2012, with a net worth of $18.1 billion, becoming number 28 on the World’s Billionaires list.

Mikhail Fridman, who chairs Russia’s Alfa Group, ranks second on the list of richest Russian billionaires, having increased his wealth to $16.5 billion from $13.4 billion last year.

Russia’s third-richest man, according to the Forbes list, is Leonid Mikhelson, who controls Russia’s largest private gas-producing company Novatek, with a net worth of $15.4 billion.

The total net worth of the world’s richest people on the Forbes magazine’s 2013 list is $5.4 trillion, up from $4.6 trillion in the previous ranking.

Mexican magnate Carlos Slim has once again been named the world’s richest person, followed by Bill Gates.

  103. bc says:

podolski giroud and walcott are a good front 3 and able hack up but we need a great front 3. similarly vermaelen koscielny and mertesacker are good bqck up cbs but we need a great pairing. wilshire needs a dominant partner in the midfield. arteta coquelin ramsey diaby would make great back up. cazorla is a decent cam but not from wide rosicky and chamberlain are d4cent back up.

  104. Micko says:

Don’t worry Gooners, hope is just around the corner, a big money offer and Kroenke will go with a fat profit.

  105. Lee says:

Must be out of date that list Dutch…..Adam and Kev are minted!
Denmark’s George Best, if only he was half as good as him!

  106. STV says:

Fine rico.. hope u too enjoy ur diner

    Hurt by Arsenal displays
This is not even like our past few seasons no quality at all.
we don’t attack fully even after 70 min, we don’t have enough firepower

  107. allezkev says:

Hello Rico and STV, i am quite well, all things considered….

When i left the Slum yesterday, about 10 mins from time, as i wanted to miss the rush, i was rather suprised at how losing to the Spuds had so little affect on me…
Usually i would be fuming, but i just kinda gave a mental shrug and went on my way….
I suppose it’s because my expectations are so low…
Arsenal did not deserve to lose and the Spuds aren’t the Wunderteam that those knobheads in the Press/Media would have us believe…

You know the opinions of football writers and pundits is becoming less and less relevent, as we source most of our info on the Web, and i don’t mean those shit ersatz blogs like Bleachers etc, which i never read…

As for that £1.5 billion takeover…………….. hahahahaha.
Yeah, next you’ll be telling me that i’m behind it along with Rocky, Adam and Lee…

  108. Micko says:

Hi Lee, watched the game in Blackheath yesterday, just a few miles short of the Holy Grail that is Woolwich Arsenal, not a scum supporter in sight.
Back home today, need to see if I can get my tv tuned into channel 5.

  109. Lee says:

It’s just so frustrating because we are not too far off being competitive, surely AW or the BOD’s can see that?!?!

  110. Adam says:

Yeah, but Stan’s got the best range of syrups from a summery quiff with a ginger hint to a somber dark brown for a winter’s day at the Emirates. The touch of grey at temples lend an air of distinction.

  111. DutchGooner10 says:

    Lee 😉

Common you know I meant post-career George Best, I don’t do discrepantic comparisons. LOL

Hiya Micko, missed you mate. Sold your Nigerian Guinness shares have ya.

  112. Lee says:

Yeah my years of taking the piss out of those wankers up the road will bite me in arse next season! Saying that we could still sneak fourth, shows you how shite PL is at the moment! With a board with some ambition we could of won some silverware….ho hum, onwards and upwards!

  113. Micko says:

Nothing will change, Bayern will turn us over and Wenger will get his two year contract extension, we do things differently at Arsenal.

How do Kev, I feel privileged, usually costs what….. £2.40 just to say hello to you.

  114. DutchGooner10 says:

Adam I read don’t ‘Bogarde’ the reefer. Quite funny considering the greedy tosser.

  115. Scott from Oz says:

Lee, of all the comments i have just read, your 6.53 nails it.
I defend Aaron a lot, but only because people attack him when it is not warranted.
He is a good player…not a great one, but a good one.
Yes, we have too many good players, and nowhere near enough great ones to challenge for honours.
    Is the money really available?
Is it, but Wenger won’t spend it?
We all like to think we know the truth, but none of us can be sure.
A short sentence Lee, but describes Arsenal to a tee.
    Good morning all.

  116. Adam says:

Dutch. Where reefer are concerned I used to be just like Andre Santos and a fried chicken wing. 🙂
I am of course entirely reformed now and fit for decent company.

  117. Scott from Oz says:

I do as well Lee, once he consistently plays in his right spot.
The kid is versatile, if nothing else.

  118. Adam says:

When the games are on I have it intravenously fed to me Lee. Even then I am convinced I have seen it all before somehow. One high ball into our defence and I am transported back. The doctors think I have either multiple personality disorder or I am a prophet as I always know what is going to happen next.

  119. rico says:

Hey Micko, great to see you back…

    Evening people….

Whoever said we have too many squad players, well, I think we have a squad full…..

  120. DutchGooner10 says:

Peeps don’t know if you all noticed, but watch closely when there are dead ball situations, those upperbody limbs suddenly go heavy, dropped shoulders, dragging their arms Bigfoot-esque, sulking about.

Mirror that to the coiled springs and chest parades other teams tap from to regroup uniformly.

If talent isn’t missing, the mindset is.

  121. Adam says:

Evening Rico. It’s nice to see that HH’ers have maintained a stiff upper lip and a good show of gallows humour during our recent tribulations. 🙂 🙂

  122. Micko says:

Hi dutch, gnome season is almost upon us, I’ll hopefully be filling me boots.
Hi rico, I’m off again tomorrow.
Scott, can’t agree with ya re top top, praying for change and that the current muppets will be swept away, unfortunately it looks like they will end up doing a lot of damage to us before that happens, its now Everton we’ll be scraping it out with for 5th place.

  123. Adam says:

I for one am a big fan of the Europa League. 🙂
I know Kev is too. We hope to visit Treblinka Gulag together should we be lucky enough to be drawn against them.

  124. DutchGooner10 says:

If Europa League becomes reality, Gunners will be traveling with first aid kits under their arms. Some nasty clubs you crossroad in that competition.

  125. rico says:

Dg, that’s because they don’t know what they are meant to be doing, no organisation, and no leader at the back.

    Sign one Arsene… A brute of a CH….

    Hi Scott.

  126. Adam says:

It’s a date Lee though KO in the east of Russia is likely to be several hours earlier so the Mangal will be a post match feast.
Thank you Rico. Toad is good, right?

  127. DutchGooner10 says:

Rico spotlight is on, cameras seeking closeups, surely they know attitude is easy gain if the crowd voices discontent, distraught with individual performances.

  128. rico says:

Sure is Dg, and rightly so.

But it should be Kroenke looking through that lens and he should have a plan to make things better.

However… the best thing he could do is push off….

  129. rico says:

I think its time I left for the day too. Soap night for me and an early walk up the wooden hill….

To all those still reading, I bid you a very good night, take care and stay safe…

    Night all….

Dg, you be good now 😉

  130. Gunnerdna says:

Wenger stopped Bould’s defensive sessions – says BBC’s David Ornstein
By Stefano on March 4th, 2013 0 comments yet.

    Be the First
If you look at the number of goals that Arsenal have conceded this season, it hardly looks like a club in a defensive crisis. The Gunners have let in 32 goals, that’s just one more than Man United.

The figures are however slightly skewed by the Arsenal defence’s excellent start to the season. They played five games and let in just two goals and their opponents included Liverpool and Man City.

The BBC’s David Ornstein has a theory as to why this is. On Radio Five Live this evening he claimed that sources in the club had told him that the great start was in part due to Steve Bould running defensive training sessions with the team. Ornstein said that the Arsenal assistant manager worked with the players on positional play and marking and it had paid dividends for the side.

However after the early games Arsene Wenger chose to stop the Bould sessions and Arsenal went back to the more traditional training methods that Wenger has employed throughout his tenure as manager.

Ornstein’s insists that there is no rift between Bould and Wenger and that players are behind the manager.

However if this is true, and given the BBC’s high editorial standards I am sure they would not have let Ornstein say what he did were there not a lot of truth in it, it doesn’t reflect very well on the club.

Ornstein also suggested that lack of communication among its defenders and Arsenal’s failure to replace Alex Song have further compounded the side’s defensive frailties.

So what do you think? Does he have a point?

  131. Scott from Oz says:

Wtf is Neville doing as an analyst?
Who is paying him, and how much??
Whatever it is, triple it, and get to Arsenal!!

  132. Lee says:

There’s no point Scotty if what Ornstein is true…..Bould was doing a good job and our great leader put a stop to it!! Wtf?
    Afternoon mate.

  133. Scott from Oz says:

    Hi Lee,
Now, you know i defend Wenger, but if that is true, then he really must go.
No man, nor any ego, is bigger than the club.

  134. Lee says:

I loved Wenger the pre 2006 manager BUT this current Wenger that has his fingers in loads of pies I am starting to detest! If that story is true he needs a massive bollocking from the hierachy and told to just concentrate on the team! I’ve still got a feeling we can sneak 4th, fingers crossed!!

  135. Scott from Oz says:

    We can get top 4.
I did read a report this morning suggesting there is absolutely no ill feelings at all between Wenger and Bould.
