Supporting Willian, Leno and The Lillywhites…

Morning all.

The next four days of Premier League football will pretty much decide who is going to be crowned champions.

Fulham host Manchester City at lunchtime today a game the visitors have to win if they’re to keep the Premier League title fate in their own hands. The Fulham players have been spotted flying kites and having fun away from the training ground which I think is great. I’ve read some comments which suggest the players won’t be in the right frame of mind today but I beg to differ. Fun time is just as important as training in my opinion.

Bernd Leno:

My focus is of course my club and my performance. If we take some points from City, I think a lot of Arsenal boys will text me. A couple of them text me already and I said to them ‘guys don’t worry we will give 100% because we want to finish our last home game in a positive way as well.

I hope our old number 1 has the game of his life and walks away from the pitch knowing that his clean sheet has given his old club a chance. Even better would be Willian scoring a winner….

I know I’m being optimistic but I am a glass half full kind of girl.

Later today, Totts host Burnley and of course, I’m hoping for a home win because we really need them to be going into the City game on Tuesday with a chance of finishing 4th place which they will have if they win today and Liverpool beat Villa on Monday.

I’ve read that Totts fans would rather their club finishes fifth than to help Arsenal win the league which I can understand but it’s a shortsighted view. Champions League football would be a good finish for Big Ange and it would make a big difference to them going forwards financially.

Troy Deeney agrees as The Sun quote him as saying:

I’m getting to a point where, as a football fan, I want a different team to win the league. Not because City are terrible but it just gets boring. We want to see the likes of City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and, hopefully, Spurs all pushing and competing until the final ebbs of the season. I want to be sat there thinking, “Blimey, who’s going to win the league?” rather than, “This is a done deal, it’s City, roll on the summer” because it becomes a waste of time. So, here we go: Tottenham should WANT to help Arsenal win the title by getting a result against City. It will give themselves and everyone else hope that they can win it one day.

For once, Deeney makes sense, up until the bit about Totts winning the league but it has become a boring affair with City being crowned champions nearly every season. We laugh about football across Europe being a two team affair but the Premier League has become similar in a way. Not because the rest in the league are average though but because City has spent vast amounts of money on the best players and manager.

Every football fan barring City’s should hope for another club to burst their bubble. I actually hope Man Utd win the FA Cup for that very reason. Oh, and it might mean ten Hag gets to keep his job for a bit longer.

Anyway, I’m not confident that Fulham will pull off a shock result today but it’d be great if they did. For the sake of football I hope they do.

Catch up in the comments.

Much is being made of depending on others to get the results that we might need should we finish with maximum points .
But is that any different today than it was back in August or September after all they all count the same .
We have lost 5 and they have lost 3 , Liverpool 4 , Titles are won over the whole season not just the sprint at the finish and it shows just how big the gap between top and bottom is because at the bottom the 4 teams in the fight to go down have won 22 games between them .
Mathmatically Liverpool are not out of it , logic says we would want them out of it and to lose against Villa but that pushes them further away from Spurs who we need to fight for their future should Fulham lose
City play ,we play , Pool play , City play then we all play . City might slip up , I doubt it but as you say the next few days will be interesting .

    Morning Cicero.

We’re hanging on to hope but as Potter says, we’re in this situation because of silly points dropped previously during the season. Ironically, the game against Fulham at The Emirates was one of those days, as was the Villa game and West Ham when considering the amount of opportunities we had to score, we fluffed it up.

Now we hope because that’s all we have..

This is what you get with 115 charges of alleged corruption.Dont care what anyone says. Its 3 more than likely 4 BOUGHT titles on the bounce.Which the media ,prem & FA have effectively chosen to ignore since charges announced.
    But,there’s always a but,if there’s any justice.Somehow ,by some miracle of Karma we’ll do it🤞

Pete , it’s a well known political tactic to allow things that are difficult to get swept under the carpet. Just as they got away on statute of limitation rules in Europe the delay here suggests that something similar will happen here.
How often do we hear on the news that someone is convicted for one crime and in sentencing other incidents have been taken into account. They may get hit with a fine and possibly a points deduction at the start of next season but it will be little more than a slap on the wrist and they will make up the points quite quickly at the beginning of the next campaign.
Of course they might get hit hard but don’t hold your breath.

I think City will be hit hard if found guilty. The punishments handed out to Nottingham Forest etc would support that theory and they’ve been for just one breach. If all 110 odd are proved, I can see the book being thrown at City. Plus, I think other clubs/people are fed up with them.

Come On You Cottagers, Leno clean sheet upcoming, Alex Iwobi MotM performance and Willian with the winner. 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Arsenal’s latest recruit is pictured in this morning’s Telegraph. Win, a chocolate coloured Labrador is the most popular non playing member of the squad. She’s not the first canine mascot at the club, the first was Gunner, a bull-mastif who was around for the 1936 Cup Final win over Sheffield United at Wmbley.

There’s just one problem, there are frequent arguments between Ben White and Kai Havertz over who gets to take her home at night when Arteta doesn’t. 😉

Fulham aren’t doing us any favours, there defender just stop chasing leading to there first goal

I’m trying to watch the Fulham / City game but TNT Sport don’t make it easy, between the endless statistics graphics they keep putting and the puerile jokey banter between McCoist and his side-kick it’s hard to concentrate when the game is so one sided.

    Hmm, 0 – 2 now.

Routine win for Citeh against the kite flyers and I’m afraid it’s going to be SpudULike for them on Tuesday night!

  11. allezkev says:

Well despite trying to kid ourselves it’s pretty much going as we feared but I still want us to go up to Old Toilet and give them a hiding, don’t hand to the 115 cheats on a silver platter…
