Striker deal secured today? One transfer that still Irks!

One of the transfer confirmations I read yesterday filled me with happiness for the player and yet much regret about what could have been had Jose Reyes stayed with us….

Great player and a bit of eye candy 😉

Seville announced that their winger has returned to the club from which we bought him from and Atletico Madrid sanctioned the deal so he could nearer to his family, in particular his father who is very ill.

I can remember the day that our club announced he’d been signed….

In fact it was in this transfer window back in 2004, we’d paid just over £10 Million for this winger/striker who was wanted by many clubs, but he chose us and Seville really didn’t want to lose their man.

On the 1st February the same year, he made his debut in a 2-1 victory over Citeh, a couple of days later though it all went wrong for him as he managed to score an own goal against Middlesbrough!

It wasn’t too long though before he found the right net, scoring two goals against Chelsea and with it, dumped them out of the FA Cup!

Towards the end of the same season, he scored a few more too, helping us to go the entire season undefeated.

Sadly he fell victim of the Henry stare and the Neville battering and it didn’t take long for him to realise that England was maybe not for him. He took a lot of stick for going to ground a bit too easy and really struggled. Towards the end of the same season, he bagged a few important goals but it was clear he was far from settled.

So much so, it wasn’t long before the stories broke about him being homesick, a strange thing though bearing in mind his parents and brother had moved to London with him but sadly, some idiot caught him out in a spoof interview in February 2005.

It was suggested that a prankster claimed to be Emilio Butragueño, who at the time was the director of football at Real Madrid, and he pretended to be speaking on behalf of the president of the club and spoke to Reyes about a possible move to Real Madrid! During that little chat, Reyes is supposed to have declared that life in London was far from good and he would love to return to Spain. Our winger was also accused of saying he wanted to leave Arsenal as there were “bad people” at the club!!

In the memorable FA Cup final later that year, he managed to get himself sent off just before the end of the game but it mattered not, we blew the Mancs away in the penalty shootout, having been battered for 120 minutes….

Crazy enough though, only months after all the suggestion about him wanting to return to Spain, he signed a new six-year contract and said he was ‘looking forward to having many more successful years at the club’.

That following season, Reyes played a key part in our side, especially our route to the Champions League Final but as the following season began, Reyes asked to be omitted from our Champions League qualifier and I think most of us then realised he could be on his way out as his inclusion would have left him cup-tied….

Just prior to that summer 2006 transfer window closing, Reyes left us on a loan deal to Real Madrid, a deal which saw us get Julio Baptista – aka ‘The Beast’….……

The Beast left the following summer and we never saw Jose again….

What a great shame, and he’s still only 28 years old………

12:00hrs today is the deadline for us to sort out the loan deal for Thierry Henry, if he is to face Leeds on Monday night in The FA Cup. How long has the intention to sign him on loan been part of Wenger’s plans?

It must be over a month now and yet it’s still not been sorted out!!

Why??

Have a good day all…….

    Morning all…

I bet we don’t get Henry sorted out, just goes to show how hopeless we are at sorting out transfers…

Some reports are that henry picked up an injury while training and that is the sticking point in the agreement…

  2. rico says:

    Lee posted this earlier…

Wenger – Nothing concrete on transfers yet

    By Joe Brewin

Arsène Wenger may add to his defensive resources this month but he admits the wheels are not yet in motion for any deals.

The squad has been hit by a number of full-back injuries in recent months with Bacary Sagna, Carl Jenkinson, Andre Santos, Kieran Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen all sidelined.

Johan Djourou’s suspension has compounded Wenger’s concerns and he may seek a short-term option this month.

“At the moment nothing, we don’t have a concrete case but we don’t rule it out,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “[A loan defender is] the likely scenario, yes.

“[I am expecting a] quiet [market]. Europe is depressed and there is not a lot of money available, only some clubs who have exceptional resources. Let’s say that clubs who are not linked with the economic environment at the moment can buy!”

  3. alan b'stard M P says:

Sorry that Reyes was virtually forced out of Arsenal unless I remember wrongly

    So Henry looks doubtful?

  4. goonster says:

Oh Reyes he was my favorite “invincible”. Had this action figure then that looks like him. Reyes who can forget his goal against fulham when van der sar tried dribbling him. Still makes me laugh. He’s still 28 you say! Wow….morning good people and no more “stanlette” crap today. That means you WATH!

  5. rico says:

hi alan, i think the nevilles and the henry sulk really got to him, shame, i thought he’d be great for us in time, at least he scored two goals for Real Madrid to secure them the title one seaosn, just pipped Barca 😉

Doubtful to be done by midday here, so no FA Cup debut and Gervinho woill be gone too. Wenger has confirmed that RvP will definately not play….

  6. goonster says:

Morning Rico…wish he never left coulda formed a fearsome strike force with robin. Oh well ce sera sera.

  7. goonster says:

What a club! He’s only with us for 6 weeks yet we can’t even sort this out. Donovan is already playing for everton. How do these guys sleep at night! God help us.

  8. Jekyll says:

Wenger actually dithered on Henry until the very end of December if you look back on the quotes, that’s why the paperwork didn’t begin until then. I still don’t understand why it takes so long, or any time at all, but that’s the reason it isn’t sorted.

The market being ‘quiet’ is the very reason a club that does have resources like ours should be in there, taking advantage of the need to sell, but of course Wenger wants us to think it means there is no business to be done.

  9. rico says:

Just as Lee said earlier goonster, if we can’t even sort a simple loan out what chance have we got on actually negotiating a permenant deal for players, we are hopeless…

Hi Jeckyll, so he told the world but he then says as soon as he started training he knew……

Do you think he will buy then?

  10. tbuzz says:

Morning and Happy New Year Rico!

Didnt we play Leeds at some point last season? If so, they were a tough nut to crack so I hope Wenger fields a decent team.

  11. goonster says:

He does! Awwwwwww. I ll take him back Rico. He’s got more skills in his pinkies than chamakh park bendtner and walcott combined. But we know wenger ll never do that. What a sturborn old man. Grrrr

  12. W.A.T.H says:

    Morning Priscilla……..

Morning Rico, shame about Reyes, could of been a top top player for us…! Bit of a nancy though !!

  13. rico says:

We did play Leeds last season, huffed and puffed a draw at The Ems and then beat them away, 3-1 I think….

Will be a tough one and not a given home win either….

  14. Audu Nurudeen says:

Jose Antonio Reyes…where did it go all wrong for this prospect Then?.we wish him a rejuvenated career.Arsene is becoming a slow fella in the transfer market, which is costing the team alot.

  15. colin says:

hi! again but have to reiterate Ricos feeling that we shouldn’t be surprised at arsenal dragging their feet again, my personal feelings are that they want to continue saving every penny they can, even if they have to play the game of pretend we are doing all we can to secure the best players. They like tottenham will show interest in every big name but won’t try one iota to make it happen. can’t you feel the soundbites coming out already. colinc

  16. rico says:

Hi Audu, is it Wenger or Ivan, the latter should be responsible for sorting players out….

hi colin, our club provides one thing that surpases all other other clubs, Spin! Gets boring doesn’t it…..

  17. Jekyll says:

Wenger may have said ‘as soon as he started training’ about Henry but then he always says he was certain about a player after dithering for months, if we actually manage to sign one. My bet is he didn’t ok the loan signing to begin until the very end of Dec.

I don’t expect any further signings. Wenger doesn’t actually want to make any, he doesn’t like the January window, as he’s said in the past. He doesn’t like the summer window much either, come to think of it …

He’ll fly by the seat of his pants and just hope for the best, as always these days, despite it coming back to bite him on the a**e every year.

  18. Thomas - Once a Gunner Forever a Gunner says:

Well, I still remember that Seville VS Real Madrid match where Reyes dribble through the Read Madrid midfield and defence for fun to score goals! Even Zidane was amazed by Reyes superb performance that day. This video shows Reyes’s goals for Arsenal:

    [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5TN1kp4mRE&w=420&h=315%5D

Sadly, he was homesick and left us to join Real Madrid on loan in 2006. Reyes never realised his full potential thereafter. A very sad case indeed.

  19. rico says:

I don’t expect any either sadly, other than a loan or two 🙁

It’ll bite him harder this season i think, fans will be on his back again….

Or they will turn on the board….

  20. goonster says:

Am petrified Jekyll. If we can’t sort out a Loan move for a player that really wants to play for us how then can we convince another that is still mulling over it. We are a joke. God help us.

  21. rico says:

Sadly, I expect little different goonster, right now it looks like a fight for 4th with the chavs but who knows, the dippers and geordies could change that real soon….

  22. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. If, as Wenger says, it is a quiet European market with no money about surely that means it is a buyers market and clubs with money, like us, could make a couple of important buys.

  23. rico says:

Morning Adam, he always says that but yes, ideal time for us, but sure as heck ivan won’t be spending…..

  24. goonster says:

Yeah I hate to say this but I don’t think we ll ever catch up with the spuds this season. Its a shame maam. Just like in previous seasons, two classy players could still transform our season but the powers that be won’t move. Its so sad.

  25. W.A.T.H says:

Well said Adam, wengers comments contradict what his actions are, if money is tight then it’s a buyers market surely and we have money so why are we not getting great deals on quality players..??

    Priscilla…… Calm down calm down…..! 😉

  26. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning all, Reyes never lived up to his billing, good looking Maybe, but no longevity, an Agag type signing, nowadays we look for old spent And CHEAP players. No doubt if Henry ever gets the shirt over his head he will play half a game then be rested for two. what a Fcuking waste of time for a supposedly top premier side, get the fcuking cheque book out and buy the players we need A first class striker, reserve keeper, and somebody that can last longer than 2 games at left back thats showing commitment.Oh sorry the climates bad, always is in north London.

  27. rico says:

Morning Steve, amen to signing proper players…

I’m not sure he’ll bother with a Lb now, he’d be rubbing his hands together seeing Coq play so well there…..

goonster, in a word, no and calm down 😉

Lee, that will be long gone now, paid off more debts no doubt, what a joke….

  28. goonster says:

Its so hard to believe these days. Wish Dein could be reinstated. IG is a disgrace. How much does he earn annually?

  29. stevepalmer1 says:

Last year we could have won the league with a couple of signings 25 to 30 mill could have made us a fortune and we still would have had certain players, forsight is a good thing after the event but we have to speculate to accumulate. we are headed down that ladder if we don’t strengthen, nows the time to stop the rot.

  30. alan b'stard M P says:

    Hi Rico & all

Call me a sceptic, but it would not surprise me if Wenger states all this transfer nonsense to keep us quiet knowing full well it won’t happen

Maybe we should just forget Henry

  31. rico says:

Steve that ‘nows the time to stop the rot’ has been ongoing for the last 2/3 seasons, this Jan will be no different, the club would rather save than spend…..

exactly lee, we are a joke…..

  32. W.A.T.H says:

IG Apparently he earns over a million a year Priscilla, last year he also got a bonus of 1.8million….. what the fuck for noone knows….!

  33. goonster says:

Its so sad Steve all we needed last year was another defender and a new keeper but lescrooge muddled it all up. After chezzer got injured against barca it went downhill. We had to call back mad Jens from retirement! Who lives like this? A guy who haven’t kicked a ball in two years! God give m strength.

  34. STV says:

Morning HH.. About Reyes again !! was my favorite after Pires.. what a player we had lost..

morning goonstr.. wonder howz ur mood today 😉

  35. Joaquim Moreira says:

    good morning
Reys is a player is very unstable. Every year the club changed. Every year, half a season, the clubs want to get rid of him. Makes two, three games, falling on the bench and gradually fades. It happened with R. Madrid, Benfica, A. Madrid.
Samba is wanted by several teams.
    Gourcruff not leave Lyon

  36. rico says:

alan, wouldn’t surprise me but the players are talking like he’s been signed….

Morning STV, sir bobby if you please 😉 😉

  37. rico says:

Hi JM, Samba should be snapped up by us, a cheap price for a very good PL defender in a rubbish side who can score goals…

    I’d rather him than Merts…..

  38. goonster says:

Hi ya STV am good my man how’s graduate life treating ya? WATH if this pricilia crap catches up am coming for you.

  39. Joaquim Moreira says:

Ganso (Santos) – totts? (with this brillant player, Totts can win the title)
    Marroc – Chamack, Taarab (QPR)…
    Cote D’Ivoire- Drogba,Gervinho,both Touré,Kalou,Tiote (Newcastle),Eboué…

  40. rico says:

Ah, TH12 Stv, let’s hope he signs then 😉

45 mins left for the loan to be sorted, otherwise it’s Chamakh up against Leeds – Lord help us…..

  41. t-buzz says:

Hey Rico, am good thanx and xmas was great especially with baby gooner, he’s 8 months old and full of life!
I havent been here a while cos blog sites are blocked in my office and hardly get the chance at home! Glad Highbury-house.com is going from strength to strength though….

  42. stevepalmer1 says:

You know what Rico if TH makes it i reckon we might see Theo up with him The Ox on the wing and ryo and Park Sagna on the bench what do you reckon

  43. rico says:

Great to hear that Tbuzz, you need to get a different job though 😉

Thanks re HH, little lad 8 months now, you must have a had a fab 1st Christmas, no doubt the little gooner was spoilt rotten 😉

  44. rico says:

Tbuzz, has HH been blocked since it changed it’s domain to .com?? Oliver has the same problems in his workplace, they too have clamped down and he can’t get on here as much….

  45. rico says:

Knowing Wenger Steve, he’ll play TH up front on his own and hope…..

Isn’t Ryo off out on loan?

Sagna on the bench would be a happy sight…..

  46. W.A.T.H says:

Can you run in your heels Priscilla…. Am impressed……!

All these loans and players linked and not one gets you thinking Hmmmmmm now he’s a bit tasty would love us to get him……. Nope we get to salivate over Wayne Bridge and Keiran Richardson…. oh fuckin yippee……!

  47. t-buzz says:

ha ha ha! The jobs fine just that some people take the mick hence ruining it for the rest. Yeah, baby got loads of gift but the best was an Arsenal hoody body warmer, he loked really cool in it!! The older one got gooners PJs so was well chuffed.

  48. rico says:

    goonster – £1.6 M 😉

T-buzz, Chavs or either Mancs will soon go sniffing around Ba or even the two Spaish minnows….

  49. Micko says:

    Morning all,
Reyes was an exciting player on his day, but was also a bit of a fairy as well, spent too much time on his arse for my liking.
Was there for the chelsea game when he got the winner, it was a real screamer from about 25 yards in front of the North Bank.

rico, re your 10.55, surely you meant to say we could manage 1.5 million.

  50. Micko says:

Wasn’t Demba Ba getting absolutley slaughtered at West Ham last season ? Imagine if wenger had bought him, everyone would have been going bonkers.

  51. rico says:

OOps, sorrty Tbuzz, thought he was your first 😉

Good point Micko, we don’t have to bid higher, just equal and hope we are more tempting than QPR …..

  52. rico says:

That was last season I think Steve 😉 He’s reported to be going to Fulham…

🙂 Lee, saves us keeping any tabs on this window now, ours is firmly shut…

notice Pires, Reyes and a few others left in a relatively short time

  54. W.A.T.H says:

Am good TBZ, missed seeing you abt mate, must of been good with the nipper first Xmas etc etc… glad the little man kitted out in the red n white… as it should be. All good this end mate..!

Make you right there Micko enough to make anyone injury prone… 😉

  55. rico says:

MON has just been asked if Nikki B just needs an arm around him and guidance to stop mesiing around off the pitch…

MON’s reply was ‘An arm around him, or an arm around his neck’ 😉

Sounds though like he might want to keep the player, he’s impressed with him….

  56. Gooner Sam says:

Morning all, return of the king then…only it’s all a bit short term given that when possibly the worst striker Arsenal have ever had (Chamakh) and the striker who never plays and has to go home soon anyway (Park) will return. Where’s the ambition as always!!!

  57. Thorough says:

@Goonster, Rico n others who want to know about Taiwo, I will give you a little dossier. He was the costliest player in the Nigerian league before he left, and for a defender, that is saying a lot. As if that was not enough, he went straight from the Nigerian League into the OM first 11…and guess who he replaced? Good old Bixente Lizarazu. Think Liza was let go after some weeks or months of watching the mercurial Taiwo. And for the 4/5 years he was at OM he was in Ligue 1 team of d season once (think twice actually). The most memorable one I had of him in OM jersey was at d league cup semi final or final. Om was 1 up when he took a blistering freekick that went right through the wall and into the net. Guess what the commentator said ‘The defenders went for safety first’. His freekicks lacks technique but compensates for that with the power. After that second goal they won 3-0 and a certain young Frank Ribery was also in that team. He shoots like hell. And not just freekicks. He crosses well too and supports the attack too. The major problem with his game is that he is slow and his recovery rate is suspect. I’ll put him above Gibbs attackwise and almost at same level with Santos defense-wise. Lastly, he was voted the third best player at the U-21 world cup (2005, I think) behind Messi and Mikel Obi. I rest my case for now.

  58. W.A.T.H says:

His last game will be the yids Priscilla……….. we need someone in that dressing room to tell the rest what smashing the yids is all about and how much it means..!

  59. STV says:

    Alan!

Who fans voted 5th best arsenal player all time? He left not before winning 3 fa cups and 2 premier league titles and reaching cl final. we should thank Mr. Wenger for that !! (note that he regretted it later)

Reyes.., so much he could have been.. he was terrific in his first two seasons then faded and gone !

  60. Micko says:

Goonster, your be dead a long time, what’s the rush.

The scum will implode, they always do, we’ll be ahead of that shower in april, its a sure sign easter is only around the corner.

  61. goonster says:

Ganso the Brazilian. Played in the copa. Mentioned in the same Vein as neymar? WATH help me out here.

  62. rico says:

They are just starting to pick up injuries too, Gallas, Parker and one other is injured, could do with Lardybayor getting one now….

  63. goonster says:

I hope you re right micko I really hope. I ve been a gooner now for(counting my fingers) 10 years and in my time the spuds have never finished ahead of us. Its foreign to me. I might kill my self.

  64. Joaquim Moreira says:

yes, gooster. Look at my comment at 11.07 a.m.
Neymar is the most exciting player of Santos; Danilo (now in Porto) and Ganso (totts ?) are the two most important players.
    More news:
hulk and João moutinho (Porto) chelsea? next week ?

  65. goonster says:

Have the omani been spotted yet? In training that is? God give me strength. Did I just ask about an omani player? Damn you IG, namesake and wenger. Rot in hell.*hyperventilating*

  66. rico says:

You are a persistant offender 🙂

I’d rather he gets punished if he is found guilty of naughtiness Stv and thrown out the game but if that can’t happen, then yes, i hope he becomes the next england manager….

  67. W.A.T.H says:

Sorry Priscilla, not heard of Ganso at all so was a little stuck….! Jm will always help out on the Brazilians…!

  68. Joaquim Moreira says:

I never see him playing but he has good references and comes from a great club in Brasil (International -Porto alegre). Is a young boy too like Neymar, Ganso and Danilo

  69. W.A.T.H says:

Lee, thats the problem when you actually have “yid” mates…..!

I don’t have any mates who are yids………. problem solved – no problem…..!

  70. Micko says:

Lee, let them have their 5 minutes of fame, even the sun shines on a dogs arse sometimes.
It will be a scrap but we’re come out on top.

  71. EastSidePaul says:

The last name I ever put on an Arsenal Jersey was Reyes :). He would have been an amazing player.

A month to put together a loan deal.. I see Everton had no problems .. Dein would be spinning in his grave (If he was dead that is)

  72. Micko says:

Wath, i’d always imagined you had a tottehham mate to hold your bog rolls for you, every gooner should have at least one just to take the pish out of on a daily basis.

  73. goonster says:

Can’t see that happening WATH if they win their game in hand they ll have an unassailable lead over us. 9 points WATH 9 points. How on earth are we going to overhurl the scums with players like walcott chamakh arshavin and park. Worse still those shower of shit are looking to strengthen their team while we look at omani second division players! God give me strength.

  74. EastSidePaul says:

He talk about recession every time they asks him about transfers…

The premier league began in 93 right? Meaning they ve definitely finished above us once since its inception.

  79. Micko says:

  81. Rockyrocastle07 says:

    Afternoon all

What is it about these clowns in charge that feel they have to have long, drawn out transfer sagas? We should have had Merts’ transfer sorted ages before it was. Same with Chamakh (although I’m gutted that one didn’t over-run so we missed out on him) and if I remember rightly, news of our interest in Hleb went on for ages before we actually signed him (and as controversial as it may sound, he’s another I wish we hadn’t bothered with. He was garbage after his injury). and now Henry. How hard can it actually be to sort out? A week ago we were told it was just down to insurance details needing to be ironed out. A WEEK!. Even if this was sorted out over the space of a working week, and basing that on a normal 9-6 day, that’s 45 hours they have had to get it sorted! And it still hasn’t been? Embarrassing. I could not do anything for 45 hours a week and pick up a fortune, no problem. Where do I apply for these dickheads jobs? And when will we get the shock transfers again? I had no idea we were in for Reyes or even Eduardo until I read we’d signed them in the papre on the way into work the following morning! Those transfers got people excited whether they knew of the player or not. When you hear the same stories day after day, month after month, by the time the player does sign, you’re already bored of him!

  82. rico says:

    Hi Rocky

Used to watch it but sot really a fan, i only saw Lee RIP comment and thought how spooky, didn’t see his previous so my last comment made me look a bit of a wotsit 😉

At least he passed in his sleep…..

Totally agree re your last, utter clowns…..

  83. goonster says:

Just seen pictures of the lads training. Why is wenger not bringing in ryo and AOC to torture opposing teams. Those kids would have kept riise on the back foot at craven cottage. I don’t get the logic behind going all out to get a work permit for ryo and not use him. He is better off on loan than just being used as “training material”. Evening guys.

  84. goonster says:

So why bother….he could have gotten more games under his belt by now for feyenoord. I was looking forward to seeing feature for them this season. Hopefully at close range when he visits us at arnhem. Oh well am not the boss but I can sure so a hell lot better than him. I take a pay cut too. He’s on six million right? I ll take 5.950!

  85. Rockyrocastle07 says:

Not being funny Goonster, but I reckon I’d have kept Riise on the back foot the other day. He’s hardly at the peak of his career! Which is why it is so frustrating that he was put under minimum pressure.

  86. Rockyrocastle07 says:

Me neither! I’m 6′ 3″ and weigh more than Tyson did in his prime… I’m not built for running! But I’d still have torn Riise a new one!

  87. goonster says:

Rocky, you re 6’3! Whoa, stay clear of you if was a spud. Wouldn’t want to be wearing a spud jersey close to you after that 8:2 debacle.

  88. Rockyrocastle07 says:

The wife’s a Spud… she knows not to mock me about Arsenal! Unfortunately though Goonster, my train journey stops at Tottenham Hale (or Seven Sisters depending on the train) so When Spurs are at home, the trains are packed with the great unwashed Spuds fans. I take great pleasure in showing the Arsenal colours in those instances, by the way of the arsenal red and whire bar scarf in winter or having an Arsenal screensaver on myu phone permanantly showing as I rest it on the table in front of my seat!

  89. Rockyrocastle07 says:

Haha!! If I don’t, it’s a long walk home mate! And about £80 in a cab! As much as I hate them, I won’t give them the satisfaction of hurting me in the wallet!!

Lee. Yeah I think so, it rings a bell… Greenbury Utd I think?

  90. goonster says:

definitely lee….it ll be a packed house. Wish I could be there. The place ll be rocking especially if henry scores.

  91. goonster says:

Ahhh come on lee…there’s got to be someone am taller than. Maybe DG or yeah kev am definitely taller than kev.

  92. Fox head says:

Hi guyz,If we don’t buy quality playerz this jan, we shall surely end up empty handed. That would be eight trophyless seasons! Thinking abt it makes me so sad. And if we finish out of the top 4, then the great arsene will have 2 let go. I cant imagine him presiding over a sad decade.

  93. goonster says:

I wish rocky…I live in arnherm in the Netherlands. How on earth will I make it in time. And besides Monday is a working day. Hmmmmmmm I bet I can take a leave of absence.

  94. Rockyrocastle07 says:

HI Fox Head. That’s the thing though, while Wenger is sitting pretty on a £6/7m a year contract, he won’t be sacked. And he’s too stubborn to walk.

  95. Rockyrocastle07 says:

I love the way that people from all over the world post on this site, and get involved in conversations… in English. I can’t even imagine that happening the other way around! The arrogance of the English when it comes to language is staggering!

  96. goonster says:

I guess I can pull it off rocky….I ll give it a whack. Where ll you be rocky? Know any good pubs around? God I can’t wait.

  97. Rockyrocastle07 says:

I’ll be at work mate! Didn’t leave til 9.30 last night, and will be the same today and Monday. I don’t have a season ticket any more unfortunately. Waited 6 years on the list, then finally got one, but just didn’t enjoy going on my own. The people in seats all around me weren’t held by season ticket holders, so it was different people every week so couldn’t get to really know anyone. It’s a shame, but I wasn’t going to pay £1,300 the following season to renew when I wasn’t really enjoying it

  98. goonster says:

Come rocky don’t be so hard on yourselves. I bet you can say a few words in french Spanish German or even Dutch. I went to an English school mind you.

  99. Rockyrocastle07 says:

Curse words are the first words anyone learns in a foreign language, non?!

In response to your earlier question about places to drink…. I’m the wrong person to ask!! As a non-drinker, I rarely go into pubs. And there was NO was I’d go into one on my own (when I was on my own going to the match)!

  100. Lee says:

You can’t help but love Thierry….”for me being able to come here & train, being in the dressing room & seeing all the training staff, I have no words to describe it. To wear the jersey one more time, I can only be honoured’
“people think I’m just saying that, but when I left this club I cried and I cried for the statue. I haven’t cried a lot in my career but when I do it seems something is happening with Arsenal.”
    What a top fucking man!!!!!

  101. Micko says:

Rocky, they say 1 in every 3 people in the world are chinese, but thinking back there were no chinese girls in bananarama so maybe its not true.

  102. Fox head says:

Rocky, great that guyyz all over the world post on this site. While some guyz get to catch the matches at the stadium, some of us have season tickets at our local pubs! And are as passionate as all true gonners. Does the thought of 8 trophyless seasons hit u guyz as hard as it does me?

  103. Rockyrocastle07 says:

Very true Micko! Or Bros! Or even Brother Beyond for that matter……

Fox Head. It bothers me about the trophyless streak. Very much. But it’s not going to change this season. It bothers me very much that these days, I only see us realistically winning the Carling Cup. And that isn’t good enough. I am naturally a very pessimistic person, and moan about things regularly, so that may affect my outlook about Arsenal sometimes….

  104. Rockyrocastle07 says:

STV – Depends who you speak to. The media love to remind us during every televised match, but even they add or subtract a year at will. But I think you are right, this will be the 7th year

  105. goonster says:

Lee henry is a legend. It just keeps getting better for him. Its comments like these that endears him more to the gooner nation. I heard the away fans were singing his name as craven cottage. Like you say top fucking man!

  106. rico says:

Top Top man indeed – hope a bit of that attitude and understanding of OUR club rubs off on a few lee…..

  107. rico says:

Hi Fox Head – didn’t see you sneak on, you are not alone, some of us here in the UK have to do the same …..

  108. STV says:

I’ve been counting that since that cl final loss mate,,, You cant guess how hard for me to see this catastrophe after a sound invincibles era and it’s golden players.. I grown up watching those players.

  109. Rockyrocastle07 says:

He IS a top man, and I do love him for what he did for us. I’m not at all doubting the love he has for the club. But still can’t get away from him leaving for Barca the season after he said he’s not sign for them (and then signed a new deal with us). OK, the timing may have been right for him to go. His last season with us wasn’t his best. I hope he comes back in a coaching capacity, but not sure about Henry the player anymore. I may be way off with my comment, but it’s what I honestly believe.

  110. Micko says:

Thierry was a bit special, I loved the way he used to coast past players, the sad thing is at 34 he’s still better than anyone we have except rvp of course, what does say about our current squad, he’s still got a few goals in him and will show some of the whipper snappers how its done, I’d like to think he come back for good some day as well.

  111. Rockyrocastle07 says:

Know what you mean Micko. The way he used to show the defender the ball then leave them for dead. I really hope he does well. And whetever happens, even if he turns out to be guff, it won’t tarnish the memory of him at all.

  112. rico says:

I thought you didn’t want him to return goonster??

How many goals though, he’ll be up for the game, thats for sure….

  113. Rockyrocastle07 says:

Maybe Rico. Did you not think that at times in his last season he looked as though he was out of sorts? Maybe things in his private life were affecting him. Didn’t seem to be troubling Giggs though! Maybe it’s because Giggs clearly has no conscience!

  114. Rockyrocastle07 says:

I really don’t think he will Goonster. He could drop his shorts and curl one out on the centre circle at the Emirates and his legendary status wouldn’t be tainted! (sorry for the mental image there….!)

  115. rico says:

Thats what i mean Rocky, he had big probs in his private life which no doubt had an impact on his game but he’s never had one bad thing to say about us, and i don’t think he ever will…

Some even suggest that in the summer he will replace Pat Rice….

Maybe then, Dennis will replace Wenger and Keown will come back and join then……

Giggs is just an old dip wick 😉

  116. Rockyrocastle07 says:

Steve Bould will be gutted if TH replaced the doddery old man Rice, I think. ALthough I think Mr Arsenal is the man most fans would want to be Wengers no. 2 isn’t he? He’s definitely my choice.

  117. Rockyrocastle07 says:

Yeah, Keown, Henry, Bergkamp, Adams and Bould. Usmanov as the owner….. I’m allowed to dream, right?!

  118. Rockyrocastle07 says:

I think he’ll be just fine Goonster! My Idol is most definitely Tony Adams. Although growing up, Rocky was my favourite. Loved everything about his game and was gutted when we sold him and devastated when he passed away FAR too young. I’ve still got my signed photo of him that I got sent to me when I signed up as a junior gunner.

  119. goonster says:

Shame I never saw rocky rocastle play. Seen a few clips of him. He does look feisty though. I envy you older gooners. You ve witnessed so much and share in the club’s rich history. God bless us gooners one and all.

  120. rico says:

My choice would be Bouldy too Rocky, any day of the week, him Keown, Adams – any of them should be Rice’s replacement… and before TH12

  121. rico says:

Ha ha goonster, in this window we don’t need one, Suarez is a winger/striker, just what we need 😉

Then, in the summer, get rid of the baggage in midfield and buy a creative and defensive midfielder….

  122. goonster says:

I ve seen him play maam he’s a cool finisher and can play anywhere up top but like I ve been saying all winter wenger sees henry as backup for RVP at least till gervinho and chamakh comes back. He ll be looking to sign a mid fielder instead.

  123. rico says:

Actually guys and gals, i’m off for the day, soaps are on and you know me 😉

Nighty all, be safe and catch up tomorrow….

  124. alan b'stard M P says:

Talksport having a rave about racism and that Abbot woman. Then they mention Stan Collymore and how he is under heavy racist attack at twitter, and they can’t mention it. I go there and have a look, and while true, the comments are uncomplimentary, I think they are more silly than anything else

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. Stan has called the Staffordshire police to investigate. I wonder in they will investigate

    1. Denying Suarez the presumption of innocence prior to the outcome

    2. General inference it’s all whitey’s fault

I wonder if the police would prefer to be doing more important things in the public interest

Incidently, Talksport, via Galloway, Matt Ford are taking it very easy of Abbot MP

And of course there’s that nancy boy last night against Liverpool that overreacted

    Incredible
