Striker deal draws close and it's not Suarez……

Morning all,

This one relates to the outgoing Gervinho.

According to reports, Walter Sabatini of Roma has been in London and an agreement is very close for Gervinho.

After a couple of offers for our winger/striker had been turned down, it appears that some kind of deal has been sorted out which includes Gervinho going on loan to Roma for the coming season after which they have an option to make the deal permanent.

Apparently Gervinho is ready to move on… Good.

As the Suarez story rumbles on, Brendan Rodgers has taken a swipe at Arsenal FC:

I know what we are trying to build, so why would you swap Liverpool to go to Arsenal? I am not sure that it adds up to be honest. Arsenal have a wonderful history in their own right but Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

We are not in the Champions League and haven’t been for a while and we have to step up to the challenge now.

What a darn cheek, maybe he should swap the ‘are’ for ‘were’ one of the biggest clubs in the world! They haven’t been in the Champions League for a few seasons now and I suspect it will be a few more seasons yet before that changes.

Luis Suarez is getting any younger, none of us are, and I strongly suspect he wants Champions League football now, not in five years time or more….

Liverpool are now reported to be going all out to sign Roberto Soldado to replace Suarez who has, according to newspapers told Liverpool he wants his future sorted out in the next 48 hours. It does worry me that Real Madrids main target has suggested he’s ready to stay in London and fire our nasty neighbours onto good things….

Just hope Madrid don’t start sniffing around Liverpool as we all know Rodgers wouldn’t hesitate to sell to them….

Finally for today it’s the last match in our pre-season tour in the Far East, which kicks off at 11.30 against Urawa Red Diamonds and it’s live on ESPN.

After that the players return home and I strongly suspect any transfers we are making will be finalised…..

Let’s hope we go out with another great result with no injuries….

Have a good day all…..

Another good read Rico… you are on the roll… 🙂

The truth has spoken and people have to listen 😛

was told this at the end of last summer window by the same person who told me about alex song leaving.

cesc asked darren dein to start putting the transfer back to arsenal into motion.

he does not want to be seen as instigating the move back because he does not want to look bad towards barcelona supporters.

this is not a footballing decision more to do with his private life.

cesc will only sign for arsenal and no 1 else.

same source says lewandowski and lars bender are the clubs 2 other main targets.

    going on holidays.

be respectful to the eds and each other.

    —————————–

    Morning all btw

  2. tsgh says:

    lmfao…. 😀 😀

Malaga everything you have said has been false, so what makes you think people would trust you, I don’t and I often think you are a spud.

    Tamikonelf

Malaga Gooner is usually full of s***, but he’s right on cesc. He will be an Arsenal player again coming season 100%. Welcome home fab4.

    Flemish Gooner

  3. bod says:

not were; ARE a bigger club than arsenal – how many watched them on their tour – we could drop a division and STILL be a bigger club – FACT

  4. devilgunner says:

tbh I do miss Malaga Gooner and his hilarious predictions.

    Good read again Rico.

but why do we have to loan Gervinho???? Take it or leave it….just buy him. If there are other clubs for him then sell him to the highest bidder.

What about Bendy?? Is he still lurking around trying to pass his big head through the archway????

  5. Bradster says:

    Hi friends,

I saw a good idea posted on another site. Why not get special boots made for Diaby where one is like a high heel to fix his one leg been shorter than the other causing his injury problems?

  6. devilgunner says:

and if he does not train he will have a bigger belly to match his already big head.

    And a bigger ASS also.

Not that he isnt one already.

  7. Bradster says:

Last I saw Bendtner blamed Arsenal for asking too much for the best striker in the world.
Surely those teams told him it’s his wages causing them not to buy him, unless he thinks he’s not worth anything.

  8. rico says:

Thanks devil, I thought the same about Gerv. Seems that we keep knocking back their offers, I’d take £5 million, add it to the Suarez money and see if Rodgers bends…

  9. ed Brown says:

To be honest though it might be painful to say Rodgers is perhaps right, they have at least won a cup last year in legue cup and us its been a while . Though we have been in champions league we have failed to leave a mark and we must do that this time. And perhaps we could consider another great striker Yilmaz at a low price than what lfc are holding up for while they also waste our time

  10. devilgunner says:

Breaking news from Malaga Gooner………seems as if our erstwhile friend has managed to wangle a secret piece of information from Le boss himself who said that Arsenal are in the process of changing their name once more….this time from Arsenal FC to United Arsenal FC.

In this way Cesc would feel satisfied he has gone to YANITED.

  11. emma says:

    Goodmorning all,

Gervinho is not leaving on loan but rather permanent(£7m). Deal will be finalize next week source Gds
Looks like Campbell will not wear the arsenal shirt. 1yr Loan deal to Olympiakos with an option to buy

  12. Canadian Gooner says:

    Good Morning all, once again.

Rico – As for Diaby’s stilettos, I am sure AGAG would be more than happy to to volunteer her vast experience to help Abu make the correct choice.

  13. SD UK says:

Good idea radster , for Diaby, it could work but I suspect FIFA might not agree.

    Anyways , Good read Rico.

    B. Rogers ? 😀 😀 😀

He is in la la land.

He doesn’t even know what he is talking about.

The SPUDS have been finishing above them for the past 3 seasons
So The SPUDS are bigger than them right now and they even manged to get a better coach.

My question to Wenger is : When Liverpool was buying Suarez from Ajax what was Wenger looking , I thought we had a good relationship with them, how come Wenger missed Suarez?

  14. tsgh says:

    😀 Dev

Hi Brad, Diaby leads a clean life he does not cross dress.lol

Ed Brown… I have never consider winning a trophy as a measure of being a big club.

Barca went 7/8 without winning a trophy. The biggest rivalry ‘betrayal’ happened when Figo left Barca for Unreal… they were stil considered a top 3 or 4 team amongst the likes of Unreal, AC, Milan and the Old Lady of Turin.

Anfield is a dump just like Enfield.lol

They need a new stadium like the swampies and the only way ahead for both clubs is downwards.

  15. rico says:

emma, had a feeling we’d never see Campbell play, never wanted us to sign him, not after he and his camp thought a bigger club were in for him and failed to turn up for his medical….

I hope the Gerv stuff is true, we could do with the money…

  16. Bradster says:

I heard the Suarez deal may need to go to arbitration by the prem if Liverpool want to ignore/misread the clause in the contract.
That’ll screw Liverpool over even more as they’ll pay his wages during that period, unable to use him until October and he’ll be unhappy at been stuck with them until Jan.

  17. tsgh says:

SD-Uk because Suarez was too expensive and he had just come back from a suspension. He also took his previous club Groningen to court.

He was unproven at that stage to spend £25M on him especially considering how previous strikers like Mutu and Kezman had fared coming from the Eredivisie…

  18. tsgh says:

Brad, Suarez has done it before…. going to court to force a move…

In my view if other quality players were available I won’t be touching Suarez…

As Ed_B said previously I will gamble on Yilmaz as an option or even Benteke again… Keisling is also an option.

  19. SD UK says:

thanks for the facts tsgh but overall, Ajax always produce fantastic players, Kanu, Bergkamp,Vermalen just to mention a few.

Wenger missed that treat and we are going to pay £40m for that, plus bad press (Sun Newspaper) and bad refereeing decisions (they are mostly Manure or Liverpool fans)

By the way , it will be sad to let Gervinho go (he has an element of surprise) but I guess Wenger is preparing for his retirement so he has lost patience , he needs to win trophies now.

sorry Gervinho, u gats to go

  20. potter says:

Seems that Roma want Gervinho but want to offload Pablo Osvaldo at the same time. Despite having a good scoring record the Argentinian born Italian international has a reputation as being a bundle of trouble off the pitch. Apparently Fulham are sniffing round him too.

  21. Bradster says:

I liked Benteke before he started whoring himself and then Villa got that silly price in their head when more teams were interested. I can’t say anything about Yilmaz but 20m + for a 28 y.o. means no resale value and a season bedding in.

  22. tsgh says:

    Emma, interesting line-up…

Kt-7 will be pleased with ox playing through the middle. JW and MA08 starting together in midfield along side Ox shows that Ramsey is now considered experienced enough to lead a younger midfield 3 alongside either Aneke, Zelalem and TR07.

  23. SD UK says:

    Thanks emma for the info.

Looking at the line up,it doesn’t bode for much confidence for our first team(how Wenger manages to finish in the top 4 baffles me)

We badly need Suarez man , badly.

Please think again if you think we don’t need Suarez.

  24. rico says:

I did too Brad, then he said he wanted to go to the totts, having once declared his love for us, Villa can keep him.. Shame, good player imho

  25. gershom mapala MALAWI says:

Wenger be quick in dealing with these issues,we want new faces capable of delivering, like, Suarez,Bernard to mention a few.Plz hurry up Wenger time is running out

  26. Gray says:

bod, mmm, I wonder, why is Liverpool fan on an Arsenal site!!! Stop splitting hairs, Liverpool are a big club, in Liverpool & were in the 80’s, but thats 30 years ago, move on!! Huddersfield, Preston, Blackpool & Wolves WERE BIG clubs too. As for attendances, who’s bothered how many people go to watch on tour, how many come to Anfield every other week, is it 45,000? I think that you’ll find 60,000 at The Emirates. Do the maths.

  27. tsgh says:

SD what is wrong with that line up? Yes we need 2 or 3 additions in key areas but that line up has a good mix of experience and youth.

Isn’t preseason a good time to experiment and trial things practiced during training? 😉

Poldi and TR07 are on the bench. SC19 is at home too

  28. potter says:

Darren Dein was the agent who was in charge of negotiating the departure of Arsenal Cesc to Barca and who is now trying to bring to their represented Manchester United. David Moyes, hell-bent on signing the catalan midfielder, is willing to pay more than 40 million, although he knows that the key is in the player, who doubles the salary and offers an ownership that Barça still have guaranteed. CESC does not intend, in principle, leave the boat and in case of return to the Premier his enthusiasm would be returning to Arsenal, who has opened the door for him. However, Darren Dean seems to think not the same. ‘ Business is business’…

    From Pozpopuli . Translated. ( badly )

  29. tsgh says:

You are right there Brad about ”… Yilmaz but 20m + for a 28 y.o. means no resale value and a season bedding in.” but in reality we could be left with no Suarez come September 2nd. How long should AW wait for an answer? Is Suarez really worth £55m? If he comes and does not fit in for obvious reasons, how much loss do we take on him if there are no takers either on the continent or in the EPL interested in him…

Even Mauren-ho of all people is not interested in Suarez…

  30. W.A.T.H says:

Morning you lot…………. and Scott 😀

Nothing much wrong with that line up at all, it’s a mic and match kind of team knowing that we will make 6/7 changes in the 2nd half..! Be interesting to see how MA8 copes without Aaron doing all the donkey work…!

  31. tsgh says:

Interesting Potter re DD as we discussed earlier this morning…

I think AW is the only one at management or board level keen on CF04 returning.

If you remember, during the members meeting shortly after CF04 left us… IG explicitly stated that it was AW who was insistent on a clause which prolonged the sale. IG and PHW both stated they did not like the way Cesc handled the move…

  32. tsgh says:

Morning WATH, my client Abu Dhabi is waiting for a response to his Employment tribunal claim against you… you have 30 secs to response or just hire him… lol

  33. Canadian Gooner says:

emma – Thank you for the starting lineup.

It looks like an experienced attack minded roster to start the game. It would be great for the fans’ and the teams’ confidence if we make a clean sweep of the tour, unlike all of our major domestic competition.

  34. rico says:

Badly I suspect Wath, he struggled in the last match when Ramsey was on the pitch.

Could this be the game which determines whether or not AW will sign a ‘DM’?

  35. SD UK says:

I do not even think Suarez is worth £40m but business is business and we are in a crazy football world and for some reason Wenger and the board decided to let everyone know that we now have money.

So Real M increased the asking price on Higuain and we lost that one and now Liverpool is playing hardball and want £50m .

Arsenal should not pay that money for Suarez.

    Now this is my take:
Arsenal should be patient and leave it to Suarez to force his way out.
Liverpool knows that they can’t deal with an Unhappy Suarez so they have to sell.If they keep him he will never play 100% and we could get him for £25m in Januray 🙂

Or if all else fails, buy Fabregas and make him play behind the striker like he does for Spain and Barcelona (he is the best scoring midfielder in the world.)

Don’t pay £50m for Suarez, we will manage without him, just.

  36. W.A.T.H says:

Ts, your mate Abu Diddly will be waiting a long long while on his sick bed waiting for my response.. The PA told him to go sling his hook, he managed to bury it in his head so I am told, 18 stitches…!

Darren Dein is the lowest form of scumbag agent as we are all well aware…!

  37. Scott from Oz says:

    Suarez to Real.
    Rooney to Chelski.
    Torres and Fabregas to us.
Wenger has you all fooled 🙂

  38. tsgh says:

😀 Rico… that is unfair on Arteta… he was good for the first 10 minutes then he looked like a pensioner afterwards.

  39. Canadian Gooner says:

    Ginge – Re your 10:58

Exactly. Pre-season friendlies are for trying out players, formations and tactics. There is nothing at stake other than team pride, no league points or cup place at risk.

    Btw, what time is kick-off?

  40. W.A.T.H says:

Don’t think you’ll find we will pay 50mil for Suarez SD, we def won’t get him for 25 though either..! Higuain not proven in Prem Lge like Suarez so no way was he worth the extra money RM tried to stitch us up with..!

  41. tsgh says:

Scott why are you not pretending to be Stewart Robson commentating on the game today? lol

WATH, note the Article ‘something’ provisions of the EHRC made specifically for Abu…

  42. Canadian Gooner says:

W.A.T.H – “Darren dein is the lowest form of scumbag agent as we are all well aware…!” That means he is the lowest of the low. Lower than than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut.

  43. Canadian Gooner says:

Catch you all after the game. Best of luck to the team. Hope to see the Ox rampaging through the middle causing some chocolate shorts for our Japaneses opposition.

  45. W.A.T.H says:

Scott, next you’ll be telling us we getting Higuain cos it’s a done deal we just wanted to get him via Napoli…! 😛

  46. W.A.T.H says:

TS, I don’t give a rats arse on “provisions” re Abu… the answer is “NO”……….. 😀

  47. C Hills says:

    Morning again all.

Nice un rico, especially because Suarez is getting any younger…:D

    Have we scored yet?

  48. devilgunner says:

Although I feel its impossible………I am still with Scott regarding Torres. Joke or not I feel that Scott has a point. With AW Torres will find his feet again.

I would bid 10 million for him. And he will not come with an applecart full of baggage. He will find his feet again and will blossom like he once was.

  49. tsgh says:

Not even if I talk to B-52 to sling his hook by reducing his wage demands, WATH? lol

The game is very slow compared to previous 3… 😉

  50. tsgh says:

Torres… Yes!! definitely worth a punt.

But mauren-ho referring to AW in his pressser said their clubs manager… spiteful soul he is. You can’t blame him for that though… he has the looks the money and a wife with a face only a brown paper bag is useful for 😀

  51. tsgh says:

Rico, The midfield is a major concern… its scary to be precise.

3 weeks before the season starts, we should not be so hollow through the middle… c’mon banfield

  52. devilgunner says:

ooooffffffff. that was a close shave for Theo. Next time try to hit the space between the posts not the post itself little one. 😉

  53. devilgunner says:

    H.o.w. d.i.d. t.h.e. h.e.l.l. h.e. m.i.s.s. t.h.a.t.??????

Even if he farted he would have scored

  54. tsgh says:

We are being cut open like a hot knive through butter…

AW sort this out pleaaaaaaaaaase! the defensive balance is not quite right in CM…

  55. Scott from Oz says:

Devil, i may have been joking on it happenin, but not on my wanting it to.
    Wath…..shaddup 🙂

  56. rico says:

Totally agree re the midfield, the balance between attack and defence is well and truly lobsided, and not in favour of the defence either..

  57. emma says:

We need our terrier(Ramsey) in the 2nd half. In my opinion Wilshere still got alot to learn if he wants to be a Box-box midfielder. Good dribbler but needs to analyse his options before running with the ball.

  58. tsgh says:

I agree but Miquel is a CB though… we all know how even TV and Verthogen struggle playing Lb as natural CBs.

Emma, any further development on Capoue’s situation?

  59. tsgh says:

Song made JW look good as a box to box midfielder in his debut season…

I think AW has to play him on the wings again for a bit.

I would like to see how a Ramsey and Aneke pairing fares…

  60. C Hills says:

I’d say cut Miquel some slack. Ball-playing CHs have a habit of blossoming a bit late; Kos, Pique, Maldini etc.

  61. tsgh says:

    Tigerish Ramsey the commentator said..

Yes CH, he is playing behind Ramsey and TR07 in the 2nd half.

  62. rico says:

Jeez, how many chances has TW missed today, reckon he’s saving his goals for the PL & CL qualifier 😉

  63. C Hills says:

I sincerely hope Arsene sees that Ts, I hope.

rico, I hope this isn’t a striker’s block for Theo.

  64. rico says:

Mine keeps going too Ts, and that’s on television…

That’s how you finish Theo 😉

Off out straight after the game ends so catch you later….

  65. devilgunner says:

that is 4 wins out of 4 now already. And all the attack has scored. Giroud, Podolski, Akpom, Theo, Ryo,.

    And all this without Cazorla.

  66. C Hills says:

Fruitful from a fans perspective, Ts. In IG’s eyes, even the last one was fruitful. Its not all about the footie, you see. Oh yes, it is.

  67. emma says:

We definitely need another DM. Like Ts said without ramsey we would have lost the midfield. What a terrier!

  68. Canadian Gooner says:

Not one of our classic games, plenty of positives and negatives.

The Asian Tour has been a good series with the competition getting steadily stronger. URD gave us a good workout and more than a few good scares. Yet, I’m sure Arsene has learned a lot about many of our Young Guns. The Emirates Cup should tell him and us a lot more.

  69. emma says:

tsgh – I hope Moyes gets that message into his thick skull

Theo needs to polish on his finishing. He could have played all day and wouldn’t score. Lost count of the number of chances he had. Should have buried at least 3 of them

  70. tsgh says:

Aw should buy Capoue asap imo… even if he is not as good on the ball as he/we would like.

He has a very steady engine and will make the likes of MA08 and

  71. tsgh says:

    what is happening

He has a very steady engine and will make the likes of MA08 and SC19 do what they do best.

I agree though Cg a very good test for a fit outfit in the middle of their season.

  72. Canadian Gooner says:

Unless ManUre offer silly money (i.e. 50+ million), I don’t see Cesc leaving Farcelona this season. Both the player and the team invested too much to get the transfer from Arsenal. Moyes is like a dog chasing a cat, he’s too focused on the one target. I think Moyes and Co. are under more presuure from their fans to make a marquee signing, than is Arsene.

  73. Bradster says:

I still think we could get Kagawa on the cheap. I see he wouldn’t mind going back to dortmund.

  74. Canadian Gooner says:

I have to agree that we need a DM. Whether that is Bender, Capoue or the Brazillian from Bayern matters not. Although Fellaini is a good player, I don’t think he would have the discipline to stick to the DM position, especially after he’s been frre to roam forward at Everton. The others would also cost a lot less. The recent bids for Capoue have established his price.

  75. tsgh says:

kagawa would have been interesting purchase for us…

I am not sure how he will fit in wth us now though?

This shows how fergie also messes up players careers. His stats were very strong. He also scored in big games against the likes of FC Munchen and us in the CL..

  76. tsgh says:

    Bradster says:
    July 26, 2013 at 1:49 pm
So did anyone see Bernard in London or at a Brazilian airport?

Malaga gooner does not cover South America so no news 😀

  77. Canadian Gooner says:

Devil – I can see Arsene helping Torres back to full capacity, but we can’t spare the time, unless he is in addition to the likes of Suarez. Also, I can’t see that vile pygmy Maureen Yo selling us a viable player.

  78. tsgh says:

Emma- re Theo I hope he is taking directions from Rico as she suggested Theo is saving his goals for the important games. He has been shocking in front of goal. He should be burying 9/10 of the chances he was served with on this tour.

  79. Canadian Gooner says:

It is going to be very interesting to see how the Suarez saga progresses this coming week. With all the rumours of Liverfool searching for another striker it is obvious they are resigned to selling him. They won’t be getting anything like 50 million quid from Arsenal though. So, this could drag out until the Dippers have his replacement in hand.

  80. Bradster says:

Personally ts I could see him fitting in nicely in the Fabragas role and a number 10 role next to/ behind Giroud. An alternative to TR07

  81. tsgh says:

The sky transfer ‘guru’ has changed his tune from Cesc being man u bound to only Arsenal can sign Cesc if we were interested.

  82. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – Theo lacks the cool composure in font of goal that a true CF needs. He is also a confidence player. Once he scores a few, he’ll be off to the races. In the meantime he has to concentrate on playing his position on the wing. I think we lost a lot of cohesion in the second half as the Young Guns are desperate to impress Arsene rather than plying their position for the team.

  83. tsgh says:

Cg, I am disappointed Eisfield did not feature in Japan.

Brad, but we have SC19 too for that position…

  84. Canadian Gooner says:

emma – You may well be right about Bernard to Porto. However, his third party part ownership complicates and slows any negotiations as you have to get an agreement from both. I’m not sure if the Portuguese clubs have the same restictions on third parties as the BPL does.

  85. Bradster says:

I never rated SC19 in the nuber 10 role. Seems to play better out wide and cutting inside and playing deeper than a number 10.

I agree ts, let’s hope we see him in the Ems cup.

  86. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – UEFA regs. give them three (?) years to get their books in order. In the meantime FFP could have a massive dampening effect on transfer fees and wages. If so, teams Like Abu Dhabi Citeh could find themselves with high cost high earning players they can’t move out. A parallel to our Bendtner situation, but greatly magnified and multiplied.

The big test will come when UEFA have to enforce exclusion from the Champions League. Will they have the cajones to do it?

  87. emma says:

tsgh- Since the moment PSG and Monaco started spending big, michel platini hasn’t said a word. FFP has being swept under the carpet. Thank goodness we are out of our financial wilderness

  88. Bradster says:

Regarding wages, what’s to stop the billionaires offering the individual players rediculous advertising sponsorship to appear in an advert for one of their businesses as a subsidy to his wages the club pays?

  89. tsgh says:

Ch, SC19 is not a no.10; Pellegrini did not trust him there either.

I think even AW realised that towards the end of the season.

  90. C Hills says:

What stops Shitty from doing a Manure? They could look for a sponsor to buy up their already over inflated stadium naming rights and triple it.

  91. emma says:

CG – I doubt if they can as they make their money through the UEFA champions. The name Gazprom the official sponsor of the CL rings a bell

  92. C Hills says:

Then I guess its going to be between Poldi and SC, Ts. Poldi offers defensive solidity and goals, SC offers playmaking and goals too. And I thought I had the most tasking job in the world…

  93. ktr7 says:

Good read as usual.am going to ignore what Rodgers said.its not worth even discussing.

I am concerned by our midfield at present.if we play against teams like dortmund with multiple off the ball runners we’ll be sliced apart.our midfield needs a lot of work and a signing is necessary.

  94. emma says:

ktr – I do not concur re: midfield. The issue is getting the balance right when Wilshere is playing. A midfield 3 of arteta, ramsey and rosicky looks so balanced. Wilshere has issue defensively. When he starts making those dribbling ball runs he leaves a gaping hole in the midfield and exposes arteta and the back four. He needs to work out that defensive side of his game. He needs to know when to make that dribbling runs or give and take passes. Timing is very crucial

  95. Bradster says:

I still see us having a width problem. SC19, Pod and Walcott will cut inside or try be striker in Walcott’s case. If we have Giroud up front that’s all four looking for the central option. Means our WB working harder attacking and poor positioning of the Wingers will not cover the opponents FB’s.

  96. ktr7 says:

Santi is better wide than central imo.playing as part of the front 3 adds creativity in there and it also utilises his strongest trait which is ability to operate in tight areas.he is also much closer to goal.

To play as a no.10 requires a more direct player who is willing to make off the ball runs for his teammates.rosicky provides that in abundance since he provides overloads and decoys in that zone.santi is strongly attracted towards the ball and at times he ends up so deep isolating our front 3.if rosicky added goals and assists to his game he is the perfect player to play there.

  97. emma says:

What will help is if we can get a DM/Box-box that has the energy and pace to cover those grounds when Wilshere makes those dribbling runs that would be great. Arteta lacks pace. Ramsey has got that energy and pace but we still need someone if injury occurs

  98. C Hills says:

emma, we could also say that the team has to learn to deal with sure exposure because palyers who dribble walk the fine line that is absolute greatness and losing the ball. That said, I concur that he needs to learn to play in a midfield; Kaka wasn’t running all the time.

  99. Canadian Gooner says:

emma & Bradster – I haven’t read all the regs, nor am I a lawyer. Whether or not there are restrictions on non arms-length sponsorship deals, I don’t know, but UEFA should have thought about it.

The big issue, as emma noted, is will Platini and UEFA have the resolve and the stomach to enforce the rules. If not, Platini will be a laughing stock and be banned from the UEFA gravy train and trough. The proof will be in the pudding when one or more of the like of Abu Dhabi Citeh, Chelski, Monaco, PSG, etc. fail to comply. It is bit like a UN resolution, if the membership aren’t wiiling to back it up, it isn’t worth the paper it is written on.

  100. ktr7 says:

emma thats why i’ve said our midfield.needs.work and maybe a signing.if jack is to play CM we.need.to sign a strong defensive player who is quick and stronger than arteta.playing the 2 of them does not work at all and imo never will.arteta is so slow and cannot cover wilshere’s attacking forays.Song helped jack alot and if we are planning to play jack there we need a player of his ilk.

also jack really needs to improve his decision making.he needs to know when to dribble and when to just pass the ball.that will come with games.also he needs.to control his dribbles better since sometimes.he tends to overrun the ball and losing it unnecessarily.he needs to watch how the likes iniesta do it since he has amazing potential to reach those levels.

  101. potter says:

The difference to Jack and Cesc is knowing when to release the ball. Cesc always has space whereas JW seems to invite tackles and picks up knocks. Zelalem is similar to Cesc in this ability. I still don’t think Jack looks 100% fit though.

  102. ktr7 says:

C hills i know.he isn’t getting any younger but at the.moment he is the best we have in that role.

if there is a no.10 in world football that i really admire its Ozil.he would be perfect for us and i would take him over even cesc.he makes so many intelligent runs off the ball that he always provides options to the ball carrier.his decoys also open.lots of gaps for ronaldo especially to cut in.and.score.he is also an assist machine.he is one of the most intelligent and talented players around.when we attack at times we appear to be quite static with few players making off the ball runs to.give the ball carrier options.suarez’ movement alone would really improve our attack alot.

  103. C Hills says:

At 21 no one was talking about Iniesta. Jack has the potential to be much more, he needs to work on it. Hear that Jack? Borrow a leaf from Theo.

  104. Riley says:

I’m sorry mate but in reference to Brendan Rodgers’ claim Liverpool are one of the best clubs in the world. You can say a player is only as good as his last game yes but a clubs reputation is built on its history and its success amount many other things such as global fan base and trophies. Liverpool are without a doubt and no body can bout against this one of the most successful clubs in the history of football. In reference to recent status not only 4 years ago were they ranked in the top 5 powers of world football with the likes of mascherano, Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard in one of the best midfields england have ever seen. Fernando Torres in his prime to net the goals and Pepe Reina also in his prime to stop then with Jamie carragher, Daniel Agger two undeniably world class defenders. The list goes on. He said club not team and if you tried to argue that arsenal were a better club than Liverpool you would be a genuine fool. I feel sorry for you but for arsenal to surpass Liverpool ever interms of club reputation is very slim. 13 league titles is an impressive title for arsenal but compared to liverpool a 18 they lose out. Arsenal also have 12 domestic cups compared to liverpools 15 and arsenal have 1 European cup to their name… Liverpool have 5 . Liverpool were the dominant power of European football for over a 10 year period .we have 5 European cups to our name and arsenal’s so called invincible team couldn’t even manage to claim a 1 even with there in vinciblenteam when Liverpool were packing the cup treble in 2001 and double in 2005. We also made the champions league final in 07 but let’s just dismiss that aye… In terms of global fan base Liverpool had 95000 turn up to a per season game in Australia. Imagine the revenue income that Liverpool would receive from a bigger stadium if the MCG is packing 95000 in a preseason friendly… It would be arsenal in liverpools position not LFC. The whole problem with today is the money and that is the sole reason arsenal have done better than Liverpool in recent seasons is because Liverpool have invested poorly in players. Carroll downing Henderson all examples of this. So don’t you dare ever say something like Liverpool were one of the best clubs in the world because in actual fact arsenal can’t kiss liverpools bootlaces in terms of Presteige and your either too ignorant to accept that it too stupid to come to terms. One final thing… Liverpool have one of the best youth set ups in the premier league. Sterling, Ibe, suso, wisdom, flanigan, Robinson, coady. Allen hendo still 22 courtinho 21 and you still have the nerve to insinuate that LFC are shit. Who do you have… Jack wilshere who is highly overrated and looks at his feet which any unblinded with a bias opinion supporter would note and Aaron Ramsey who was clearly overrated… The next iniesta by some arsenal supporters… Please could you be anymore foolish. Liverpool are a better club than arsenal and always will be when it comes down to the point. And the only reason for arsenals recent better league positionings compared to liverpools comes down to 1 thing and that is stable financial invesent and revenue…

  105. ktr7 says:

Jack can reach those levels CH but he needs to be willing to learn and to avoid injuries.he would get injured less often if he learnt when to release the ball.if he can get anywhere near iniesta levels we would have a hell of a player in our hands.

I thought wenger would play him higher up this season but so far in preseason Wenger has played him as a CM.the Ox also seems certain to play in the middle this season therefore we’ll need to buy a wide player since Gerv is leaving.Gnabry/ryo have not convinced me they are ready to be regular 1st team players.

  106. C Hills says:

Yea, impact injuries. He has to be willing to learn though, and that would mean accepting the fact that he is not yet there. Hope he hasn’t got a swell head so big. Maybe Arsene is trying to create more hybrid players a la Iniesta.

  107. ktr7 says:

I really like iniesta CH.he is my favourite player in the world right now.he can play almost anywhere in midfield and attack without dropping his standards.he can do almost anything with the ball.he has been the key player in all Spanish tournament triumphs.he is a hybrid player and its actually difficult to even pin him to a position because he is that good.

  108. rico says:

    Afternoon all, welcome Riley..

Thanks Kt, I too worry about our midfield, at times we looked awful in the middle… Vulnerable and full of gaps…

Better finishing by both sides and it could have been 7-7…

  109. C Hills says:

That was a blog post Riley. Mind setting up your own blog instead of trolling? If you have a business and manage to constantly make poor decisions, another will overtake you and, you’ll be referred to in past tense. Keep making those terrible decisions. Btw, isn’t Carrol up for sale? El Nino might fancy coming back. Oh sorry, he might prefer staying on a champions league bench. Knobs.

  110. C Hills says:

From the middle of last year to the confed cup, I saw another Iniesta. He truly can do anything at the mo kt.

  111. potter says:

Rico , having the same problem today now, it keeps telling me to slow down as I am posting too quickly.

  112. ktr7 says:

if messi wasn’t around iniesta would’ve won a balon d’or or two by now.jack has the potential but he needs to learn a lot.playing him wide may not be a terrible idea because even schweinsteiger played as a winger in his younger days before Van Gaal switched him back to the middle.similar case to ramsey, gotze and even iniesta himself.

  113. C Hills says:

I know that potter, ‘m sorry. Its not as if I can say to shitty fans that arsenal “is ” a better club.

  114. rico says:

Ch, please read the rules, we don’t name call on here….

I don’t know what is going on Potter, has to be wordpress, I will send them an email. My comments are duplicating sometimes too. Maybe its the heat..

  115. C Hills says:

Kt, yet to see an english lad that would just knuckle down to learn, except Scholes, and become a midfield god.

  116. emma says:

Looks like the Suarez issue has really touched a nerve and Riley has now seized that as an opportunity to troll HH. Nobody is arguing about your history, how great your youth setup is, how many league or CL trophies you ve won or how all 24 LFC players are better than AFC players
Give Coutinho or whoever is good in the LFC setup another 2/3yrs without CL football and he will be singing same hymn like Suarez. Hope Suarez doesn’t leave otherwise mid-table mediocrity is stirring you at the face. Go setup you blog and stop trolling every afc blog you come across

  117. C Hills says:

Sorry again, rico. I kinda agreed with Orwell that some animals are more equal than others. Apologies good lady.

  118. rico says:

But didn’t the RvP issue hit a nerve with us?

When there is a prospect of losing your best player, it’s hard to stomach..

My own view is that Liverpool management aren’t handling things in the best way and are using the media to take swipes at us which is wrong on all accounts.

We however, are remaining ‘above ‘ all of that…

But then over the last few years, Liverpool haven’t handled many controversial issues very well have they…

  119. C Hills says:

We took issues with the player and our mgt team rico, not Man Utd fans’ blogs. Class is permanent indeed.

  120. rico says:

Just seen this on LG, a twitter feed..

    Sam Rhodes ‏@SamuelRhodes_ 49m
Arsenal have apparently launched a £50m third offer for Liverpool striker Suarez as asked by Rodgers. #AFC #LFCSam Rhodes ‏@SamuelRhodes_ 34m
With regard to Suarez, according to my colleague Ben Bloom. Arsenal are hoping to sign Suarez ASAP thus ready to pay the £50 mill asking tag

  121. ktr7 says:

I think after getting a striker we really need to.sort out thatt midfield.if only we could get a khedira/vidal type of player in there because such a player would.go.a.long way to helping us solve our issues.

  122. C Hills says:

How can I manage not to get my hopes up with this constant stream of arsenal related transfer news? Help!!!

  123. bondex says:

@ Riley, I have honest pity for you and I totaly understand how you feel .But I’d like you to be sincere. How did you feel last season when manure were snooping around us ? You probably were as excited as we are now or even more, thinking it was LFC’s oppurtunity to get into the champions league….. RILEY what ever you don’t have now cant be regarded as your asset or property you dont have champions league football what you had in the past is called history…. you cant be better than AFC please refer to the league table 2012/2013….. Afternoon all.

  124. rico says:

Just thought I’d let you all know that the person selling the ST has now sold it to someone who answered the advert here…

Always nice to help out gooners 🙂

  125. tsgh says:

Hi Bondex, long long time… hope you are well?

Kt, excellent point on schweinsteiger, JW10 and Van Gaal earlier…

C’mon Riley, if you are a bigger club and have bigger history you do not have to spell it out to us mere mortals 😉

Yes you have won something since we last won a trophy but I will NEVER EVER want Arsenal to win a CoC over 3rd/4th place finish. 😉

Note you had the money to compete but wasted it on so called english core… a one season wonder…

How does it feel like signing our reject Toure to replace your legend carragher?

  126. tsgh says:

Hi Dna… hope you are well. what are your thoughts of the clueless AW on the well documented LS07 bid?

  127. rico says:

Oops, how rude of me, hi bondex…

Ts, no, someone on Lg… Apparently, two press conferences have now been cancelled…

  128. tsgh says:

What do folks thing about the swampies bulking at Soldado’s asking price?. Their owner is 2 times richer than Stan too. 😀

So far as they have bale it is not quite Spurs but Wales Utd. F.C. 🙂

  129. tsgh says:

Interesting Rico… Has AW gone back for Hig or have Unreal pulled out again because they can’t afford Bale?

  130. tsgh says:

Can me offer Zelalem a British citizenship? He could do a major job for us…

He looks a better all round footballer than most 16 y.o’s in the country.

  131. Joywedsjeff says:

Hi all, Mr Riley we know how you feel but regardless of your past glories am sure you will be the first to agree that liverpool’s management is fast losing it. Comparing the way our board handled van persie’s issues with the way John Henry and co have chosen to go about Suarez shows the difference in class at the moment…. If i were you i will take issues with FSG and hope that they listen the same way we did with ours for the past few years.

  132. rico says:

Ts – you fancy writing something about todays game for tomorrow please? Cheeky I know….

I’m not sure if that is true about Hig. What sprung to my mind was have we pulled out of Suarez and have contacted His agent?

  133. rico says:

    Hi Jeff

Ts – I truly believe that all those young ones who have been out in Asia have a huge future with us.. The only one who I’m not convinced by is Miquel but playing Lb instead of central can’t be easy… Even TV struggles there…

  134. tsgh says:

WoW- Lady rico… very cheeky. Let me get some dinner and then i will get back to you.

    Hi Joy.

Can one of the dippers ask Rodgers what loyalty means because as far as I am aware he showed Swansea no loyalty when Liverpool came calling last summer;considering he claims to believe in working together to build something… 😉

  135. emma says:

Higuain > napoli is now turning into a joke. He was supposed to be presented yesterday then shifted to today at noon. Issues with the add-ons probably R.madrid/3rd party complexity in the deal is holding it up

  136. Lee says:

Quoting Carroll, Downing and Henderson as players they bought….I’d be fucking embarrassed to mention those three woeful players!

  137. emma says:

Lee – Funny isn’t it. What about the best youth setup. Same setup that struggled against an indonesia XI. Maybe it’s wenger’s fault they dont have a 95,000 capacity stadium

  138. rico says:

That’s hot Lee, go steady on the Estrella 😉 At least the sea must be warm….

I did have a worry after the train crash yesterday….. But I bet you have a chauffeur 😉

  139. Joywedsjeff says:

Spot on Ts… Rogers need some reminding. He wonders what Suarez sees in Arsenal when Liverpool is fast turning to a historical artifact? Brendan left a team on the up for a team in terminal decline whilst Suarez wants to leave for a team on the up and yet they wonder what we are smoking? Liverpool had the chance to do what we are doing some years ago when they were still attractive but they decided that Downing was the next Messi and Carrol was the next Cristiano… They lost that opportunity and it will be difficult to reclaim their place except they suddenly get a billionaire owner. Brendan and Suarez both know that with the Anfield redevelopment coming up and the rise of spurs it will be 3-4 years before they can compete for the top four again and even longer than that for the championship.

  140. rico says:

Cardiff are trying to sign Capoue 😮

£9 million Arsene, for fooks sake, go and offer £10 million and seal a deal….

  141. rico says:

I’m off to get dinner, back in a bit…

Stuart Hall has had his sentence doubled. Amazing!! Why haven’t the courts done than to many more who got off with a light sentence…

  142. Lee says:

I know you didn’t!! 😉 I’m off out for some tapas, paella and copious amounts of Spanish beer! Come on Arsenal get the transfers sorted and then I can raise a beer….fuck it I’ll have a few anyways!!!!! Straight out of the Micko/Kev/ WATH drinking handbook……
    Hi Adam!

  143. Micko says:

Blimey O Riley, bias a pint mate, bias a pint and we can both cry in our beers !!!
Scott, I see your coming over next year, does that mean the yacht has been put on the back burner.

  144. tsgh says:

So benteke redrew his transfer request because he reckons on the swampies wanted him but as a gooner he could not play for them. Loyalty or spin?

    Loyalty or spin?

Or a come and get me plea.

  146. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all.
How frustrating was Theo Walcott. Miss after miss and very little help on the field. I feel that i have been Knocking Walcott for some time now, but in all honesty a player who has been with us for the length of time he has should have had a hat full of goals on this tour, When we spend as much time as we do talking about who we should be buying surely we should be moving on the lesser players. Theo’s work rate is questionable, whether or not he see’s himself as a centre forward or not if he is played on the wing he should be able to take a fullback on and actually get passed him and get away with his pace. But game after game if he gets the ball his first touch goes in a backwards direction this cannot continue. Frustrating Theo never looks up never challenges never heads and rarely takes his chances. He has to realise that he will never be the main man up front, he just hasn’t got it so the only solution i can see is we must be ruthless and move him on and buy a proper winger. Theo can talk well in interviews after a game but work rate during a game is way below par.

  147. tsgh says:

    Morning SP1,

    You and Theo again?lol

I concur on his work rate too especially of the ball. I have always complained about that myself…but I think he is still a very useful player.

    Hi all btw…

  148. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning Ginge, I must admit i moan about him a lot, but he doesn’t seem to learn. Its not Rocket science. Young players are taught from the start how to look up and assess the situation why would you cross a ball into the box when no forwards are there. When you receive a ball from your full back why should you pass it straight back and then disappear. why would you bottle every time a 50 50 ball presents itself. I have watched all these tour game and i have moaned all through the games how we seem to struggle to get forward and when i see a player like Theo who should have all the atributes to destroy these types of teams only to see him bottle every challenge and dilly dally with most of his chances. Maybe i feel he should be a whole lot better.

  149. tsgh says:

Of course SP1, Theo and Bale started off together… whilst Bale has sky rocketed, Theo has flirted with greatness for quite a while. But I do insist he is a genuine threat in big games. His stats last season was better than Ribery and Muller of FC Munchen. Only Ronaldo and maybe Mata scored and created more goals than Theo from the wings in Europe…

I guess Theo is a frustrating as Gerv. lol

  150. stevepalmer1 says:

Yeh mabe your right Ginge but he just gets to me that’s all, I can see the player he could be but i don’t think it will ever Materialise.

  151. stevepalmer1 says:

Papers are reporting that Liverpool FC is up for sale again for 350 mill Suarez deal back on and a little closer.

  152. rico says:

7,15 Lee, the comment we have all been waiting for and dreading…. But he doesn’t mean it…. Does he?

Morning to you, Sp, Ts and all..

TW was indeed awful with his finishing yesterday…

  153. Scott from Oz says:

Steve, my theory on Theo remains he same….he was so damn fast that he never had to learn how to play.
Its like big, quick kids who dominate at an early age….everyone thinks they can play so leave them be.
There is one in my boys side.
He scores goals every week because he is taller and faster than every other kid around.
I keep on to him about keeping the ball at his feet, but since he only manages to attend every 4th or 5th training session, it is a waste.
I intentionally put Sean up against him at training, and never gets a touch.
Theo just never needed any tools until it was too late, in my opinion.
    Morning all.

  154. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning Rico and Scott,
I understand what your saying Scott, Natural ability must be nurtured but the reason that football clubs have coaches is because natural ability can be improved. Theo gives me the impression he thinks he is the finished artical and i’m afraid he is not.

  155. Scott from Oz says:

    Maybe Steve, maybe not.
How many coaches worry more about results than teaching kids though??
I see it every single saturday.
Shooting from half way (mini field) pisses me off more than anything.
My kids get told if they do it.
Honestly, 9 out of 10 coaches tell them “great shot”.

I’m not sure he does Sp, in his interviews he often talks about staying behind after training with the keepers to try and improve and pushing his game on….

  157. Scott from Oz says:

I would not stress over Theo atm.
He showed genuine improvement last season.
When he stops improving, then we can jump on him.
    Early trials mean little.

  158. stevepalmer1 says:

Hi Ricolicious, Not many bids going in for him, if they are not careful they will have to keep him. The bosses won’t be too happy with that. They want him to stay as much as we want Bentner

  159. stevepalmer1 says:

Just proves my point Rico, he doesn’t train enough. Probably why our keepers are shit never a shot on target to save.

  160. Scott from Oz says:

Steve, i have to pay that one, mate….pure brilliance lol
Rico, it truly is all Theo’s fault 🙂

    Transfers:

There is nothing to say. I have been away now for two or the weeks and it’s hard to see how things are advanced because everyone is on tour at the moment and it’s very difficult to get in touch with people.

“I believe that every club competes on a very high level. What has changed recently is that in Europe some countries like France suddenly have bought some very very talented players who two or three years ago would all have come to England. It makes the chase for talent very difficult.

“What we want is not as name but as good player. The name is less important. What is more important is the quality of the player. At the moment I must tell you we are not close to signing anybody.

“We try to do the job and we will try to do it well. But that is in front of us. We have worked a lot but nothing has been concluded with anybody.

“Of course we want to do as many top players as we can. But we also have to focus on the players we have and develop them. We have plenty of candidates in midfield now and there is a big fight there. Bacary Sagna settles in well at centre-back with Thomas Vermaelen out.”

  162. rico says:

You are a cruel man Sp, very cruel… 😉

I hope he scores goals when it matters…..

Don’t you make him worse Scott 😉

  163. stevepalmer1 says:

We are talking about a top premier club on tour just a few weeks after the season has ended playing football clubs we have never heard of and the abilities of less than a championship side and we have struggled to contain them. we can make as many subs as we need and the players are feeling tired after 4 games. with all our medical team on hand should we need them and staying in 5 star hotels we have still looked far from the team we should be.

  164. allezkev says:

Khedira is a top quality midfielder Lee, I’d love to see him at Arsenal.
But dealing with a snake like Perez and a classless, dishonest mob like Real Madrid just isn’t worth the aggro.
All the same, if the story is true I’d like to see us try to get him….

  165. rico says:

After AW’s comments, I’m afraid my confidence in the club making signings, has taken a bit of a dip… Just a blip I am sure 😉

  166. stevepalmer1 says:

Koshelney was my man of the match yesterday if he had missed as many tackles as Theo missed chances we would have lost, and against those teams our strikers should always be man of the match.

  167. Lee says:

I really like Khedira and he’s just what we need but as you say dealing with Perez well he’s a prick of Biblical proportions! I’m surprised Maureenho didn’t really hit it off there hand in glove those two arseholes!!!
Pool or beach today? Decisions decisions! 😆

  168. allezkev says:

Rico, we have to hope that Wenger is sending out a message to, in particular, greedy agents, but also selling clubs and prospective signings, that Arsenal are not gonna be ripped off..,

There are a lot of cash-strapped clubs out there, who’ll become more desperate as the close season comes to a close and transfer deadline day approaches…

Liverpool can be as brash and blaise as they like, they are not gonna get much more for Suarez than what Arsenal bid for him…
Remember, he had a six-match ban to serve!!!

So let the season begin, he can serve most of that ban as a Liverpool player.
Let them mugs pay his wages whilst he puts his feet up…

Then go in with another bid close to the end of August.
Suarez will have agreed terms by then I’m sure.

We’ve just gotta force the Scoucers hands…
    £43/£45million should do it…
