Striker deal done? Miyaichi wants to go home………

Morning all…

Our Japanese winger is well on the way to recovery and he’s hoping to be fit and playing in time for pre-season season.

Ryo Miyaichi is desperate to go back to Japan during our tour of Asia late July.

I’m always ready to play for Arsenal. It’s my dream to play for Arsenal. First of all, I have to recover as soon as possible. Then I want to show my quality when I get fit.

My ankle is getting better so I’m comfortable at the moment. My target is to be there on the Asia tour so I think I can be fit in pre-season.

Despite not being involved in a great deal of matches for Wigan due to injury, manager Roberto Martinez has suggested that our young man has “an incredible future” in football.

Let’s hope so, starting next season. We need a winger, not a midfielder who can play wide, we need a winger and Ryo is just that.  He’ll be 21 years old this December, he should be playing. I hope he does….

I suspect you have all seen the story about Stevan Jovetić, well he’s meant to be a ‘done deal’ so that’s the striker done! Of course I don’t believe it, I’ll believe it when I see it and I’m not holding my breath.

Even if it does turn out to be true, his goal ratio for club and country is less than a goal every other game. I don’t know whether that is down to lack of chances, or the ones he does get, just go begging.

A bit like a few of our players in front of goal. They get chances alright, they just don’t take them, well, not enough of them…

Yet Giroud, who we will all miss over the next three weeks reckons he’s obsessed with scoring goals:

You need to have something special, the goal is always in your head. It is always a target, to want to shoot, to score and take your chance.

You need to work on it every day in training as much as your can. In France we say it is an obsession [to score].

You have to be a killer in front of goal, even if you miss a chance you have to keep going and believe in your qualities.

I read that and wondered if afc.com had by accident put Giroud’s name against an old article written by Theirry Henry or Ian Wright……

On that note….

Have a good day all.

Morning all – i think Jovetic has done ok this season its like every second game he gets one but i agree there is some prime livestock out there up for grabs that put him in the shade so who knows.

Had to laugh at he Giroud comments

  2. ozgunner10 says:

if you were serious Lee you would have to be in there but that lad won’t sign for us, even if we did offer the going rate and we don’t do that so…

Good Morning to the Lady of the House.

The Jovetić story may actually have some traction. I can see Arsene doing a deal early, If the price is right. Yes a big if, but as has been mentioned there were rumours of this some weeks back, then things went very quiet, and so far no denials from either club, player, or agent. However, like you, I wont be holding my breath and wont count on it until I read it on Arsenal.com.

  4. ozgunner10 says:

Must say so impressed with Dortmund – totally committed, lovely football, took their chances and won in style. The squad has probably cost what 40/50m? Amazing

So thats 2 in, including Jovetic!
The squad is looking better already!

Wavy – Are you prcticing &/or applying for a job in Arsenal F.C.’s public relations department? You have the standard phraese down pat.

Overall I like to play an offensive game, especially when dealing with the media!
I hope zis answers yor questiun!!

  9. Canadian Gooner says:

Oz – Unfortunately I missed the game, but I did enjoy seeing the scoreline. Did they show any candid shots of Maureen Yo (aka The special Needs One)?

morning all, I’ve watched jovetic’s goal and to me his goal is more like our striker’s,so I dnt see him as a player that even worth 18m if we can Giroud 4 10m and dont see d reason y we should be happy concerning this lad wat we need are sharp strikers that can score anywhere in d box. I will like 2 c player lyk lewan, cavani, falcao, tevez to fire us into winning trophies nxt season bcos we r tired of dis trophyless seasons

All this talk about strikers make me wonder if it is just the agents stirring things up to get more money. Consider this, you represent a journeyman striker from a half decent team. Drop a few hints that a Championship League team are on the verge of signing him and watch as other clubs come in desperate to buy this “quality player”.

  14. Canadian Gooner says:

Dominic – All too true. You have to factor in the length of their contract remaining and if they have been agitating for a raise/new contract recently. It is a guessing game until it is confirmed by one or both clubs.

  15. rico says:

    Meanwhile, back at the ranch…….

Arsenal appear to have won the race for another highly-rated Barcelona youngster as the north London club look set to capture 16-year-old Julio Pleguezuelo Selva.

Premier League rivals Tottenham and Manchester City were both tracking the teenager, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to prevail in the chase for Selva’s signature.

  16. rico says:

Just why fans don’t believe much that is read in the red tops Dominic…

Until it’s official it’s either media, agent or Afc season ticket spin….

  17. tsgh says:

    morning all,

    A very cynical post rico… I love it… 😀

It will be interesting to see what set of 2nd grade players we get…. by 2nd grade I mean the likes of Jovetic, Gundogan (who i have been raving about), Pastore…

It now appears only 7 teams can outspend us… 3 teams in EPl, 1 in Bundesliga, 2 in spain plus PSG… unless you want to add Donesk and FC Anchi…

In the past when we successfully bid for Ozil and Sahin, the tax bracket in spain had always been more attractive… so for instance in Ozil’s case we both offered just about the same but because UK’s tax was 25-30% higher than Spain we had to have to over as much to equate to that offer… The reason Cesc could take a pay cut and still be better off 2 years ago…

It is not going to be like that in a years time…

In the UK, the likes of dippers do not have the money nor the european plan to offer so if the board do not go the extra mile… then the ST holders have to start showing tough love in return…. note sometimes even with kids you have to refuse to buy or give them what they want to teach them a lesson… daniel levy is even tighter than Stan so unless they qualify for CL and we don’t and sell bale for 50m I do not se them outspending us considering they need a new shite lane stadium asap…

  18. Canadian Gooner says:

    The list of goalkeepers we are &/or have been linked with this last two weels continues to grow;

    Simon Mignolet – Sunderland
    Asmir Begovic – Stoke
    Victor Valdes – Barcelona
    Rene Adler – Hamburg
    Federico Marchetti – Lazio

  19. Canadian Gooner says:

The transfer window hasn’t openened yet, and wont for weeks, yet the list of players (in all positions) that we have so far been linked with is growing at quite a rate. Will we break our record for most players linked to in the upcoming window?

  20. Tlailaxu says:

    Morning folks,
I don’t know, this jovetic guy stuff is tricky…asked a friend of mine from Italy and he says jovetic is good but when I look at his stats it doesn’t blow me away(positively) so here is the question if we are reportedly paying £24mil and £100k a week then why not pay £30mil or so for lewandowski and give same wages and get a monster of a striker, what u think?…

  21. Ben says:

Adler was fighting Neuer for the Spot in the German goal. He was leading the race till he got badly injured and he was out for more then a year. He played for Leverkusen by that time and had a release clause just for ManU – in the end they bought De Gea.

Adler never came back in Leverkusen, cause they bought a new young keeper Bernd Leno from Stuttgart. In the end his contract expired he ended up in Hamburg and is now again one of the top keepers of the league. He got back in the national squad as well – but Neuer will stay #1.

  22. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – If only our defence was solid enough that our goalkeeper, whoever it may be, felt secure enough to be able to play the harmonica while in goal. Although that would require truly great hands while wearing goalie gloves. We can but dream.

  23. tsgh says:

Hi Cg, the media or board start off the window linking us with borderline world class players… then by mid June it will be outlandish players like Rangel Angel, then it will be players looking for their last pay day… then finally a supermarket dash to get basement buys in August… the question is why are lots of former players all saying AW told them he had between 15M to 25m to spend every summer when we obviously have a huge cash reserve?

The raining day AW has been predicting for 5 years when other teams are skint and we are the one of the only few standing has been occuring across Europe in the last 2 to 3 years but it seems the Texan is waiting for another noah’s flood before he spends…

  24. tsgh says:

Hi Ben.. the man with Bundesliga info… I still don’t believe Keisling is not an option 😛

What do you think of Stoger, Tasci and William Kvist?

Stutgart vs FC Munchen will be an interesting German cup final match…

  25. rico says:

Cg, Fergie never waits until the window officially opens. And yes, if only the defensive unit was that organised all of the time….

This summer we need to be doing the same. Business done early and all the players get a proper pre-season together…

No faffing around and waiting until the last day of the window…

  26. sulason says:

Thx all gooners the fact is we need super number 9 end dat is Luwandwiski others ur biting around de bush

  27. potter says:

I think i have said it before :- Sort out the defence and midfield and we don’t need to pay for another keeper , harpist or not.!

  28. ozgunner10 says:

Rico you are dead right – many agreements will be in place now. Arsenal’s? maybe one or two although i doubt it, we have the philosophy that leaving it till the last minute gets you the best buys… uummm

  29. rico says:

Gdna – have you just copy a pasted that from LG. I read exactly that comment a short while ago…. Tsk Tsk…

  30. tsgh says:

Dna… what positions do the players you have mentioned play in…

no disrespect but these are the kind of comments that shows the lack of knowledge some fans have…

After watching one game everyone joins the band wagon… typical LG… M’vila can be bought for £8M did someone speak to the players agent or the chairman of the club…?

  31. Gunnerdna says:

Rico that was a discussion I had with some friends while watching the game yesterday. He was impressive that’s why I mention it.

  32. Gunnerdna says:

Ts it was just question because of how impressive he was yesterday. It’s a football blog and I ask 1 simple question and people snapping at me, come on man.

  33. Canadian Gooner says:

tsgh – I know the routine. I too have suffered through every transfer window since the late 1980’s. However, I detect a shift in attitude and strategy with Arsene, small though it may be. He seems to be trying to clear the decks, especially with borderline/marginal players in the Academy. Some first team players have obviously been told they are surplus to requirements and urged to find new clubs. Also, a few of our overpaid under performers (e.g. Arshavin, Fabianski and Squillaci) have contracts expiring at the end of this season. I believe/hope/pray/think our window of revelation and redemption may be close at hand.

We, the long suffering supporters, can’t be made to wander in the desert of broken and unfulfilled promises for much longer. We are losing our faith. Some poor souls already lie by the sidelines; broken in mind and spirit. If our season of deliverance is not close at hand, the the Arsenal flock will be scattered to the winds, never to return. Our only solace and constant torment will be the dreams of our past glories in the land of Highbury. Let this be the window we have all waited for for far too long. If not my brothers and sisters, RISE UP and smite the Phillestine businessman and unworthy owner that resides in the state of Colorado in the the far off land of the Excited States of America; where they little know the wonders of real football, but play and watch a strange and violent variant of armoured rugby.

If your are Brother Kevin, lead us in prayer.

  34. ozgunner10 says:

hiya CG – it might also be he’s finally convinced himself, despite all the world beater claims, he’s collected an awful lot of dead wood that people do tend to keep reminding him of and he really ought to try a shift em’. Not that that has been particularly successful either to date 🙂

  35. Ben says:

    @rico & tsgh:
I think Adler is a top keeper – he won’t be too expensive and I would say Germany always had top keepers. See Weidenfeller of Dortmund – he never made it in the national squad. In my opinion most of the German keepers are underrated. I wouldn’t pay more for Begovic for instance.

    @tsgh:
Stuttgart is shit :). Boring football to watch, Tasci was on the verge of becoming a good defender, but he lost his form. Kvist – nothing special and Stöger never caught my eye. I really don’t know him.

  36. potter says:

I agree with the premise that a better keeper would be nice but I don’t see it as a priority.
I stand yes stand behind the goal on the left hand side of the penalty area and most of our defensive problems come from a lack of central midfield cover to our left back who is often left with two men to cover, A ball over the top directly at our centre backs always catches us out and because the full backs are left high and dry centres are pinged over too easily. Sort that out and the keeper/ centre half positions will become much more stable. We need a 6 footer in the middle to cut out the high ball before it gets to the back 4 who can also work wide to give support by picking up on the second man that runs from midfield. We have never replaced Gilberto Silva who did that job perfectly. I see this as a more pressing problem for our defence. Add in an Ian Wright type forward and things would be looking up.

  37. Canadian Gooner says:

Well it has been a loooooooong day. My hopes are high, but my energy low. So, I’m off to bed to recharge body and soul. Till tomorrow fellow Gooners. Keep the faith.

Also, Happy ANZAC Day to our mates Down Under.

  38. tsgh says:

Canadian Gooner preach on re at 12:08 pm 😀

Rico… LG say he is what we need soit must be echoed by all in the blogshere… 😛

Dna… I was not taking a pop…. just asking a question… based on your question.

If we say we needed a replacement for Gibbs or nacho and I suggested Neven Subotic as good as he is… I am sure most would be wondering what I am talking about… 😉

I tend not to follow what everyone suggests or believes…

  39. bc says:

Wenger never really works with a squad larger than 23. That’s 2 players for each position and a spare keeper. I cannot see to many spaces based on that number. In fact we currently have 34 players in the first team squad when the loanees return a number of the squad will still be classed as under 21.

Szczesney fabianski mannone (I expect fabianski to be released and mannone sold so 2 spaces here)

Sagna jenkinson djourou mertesacker koscielny squillaci vermaelen gibbs monreal (I expect squillaci to be released and sagna and djourou sold so 2 spaces here)

Arteta ramsey coquelin diaby wilshire frimpong denilson rosicky cazorla ( I expect denilson and rosicky to be sold and may be frimpong released so no space here although diaby is out until january at the earliest so perhaps one recruit

Walcott chamberlain gervinho podolski arshavin giroud park bendtner chamakh campbell ryo (I expect arshavin to be released plus park bendtner chamakh sold so 2 spaces here possibly 4 if campbell and ryo stay out on loan)

We must also bear in mind that martinez is very close to taking one of the keeper slots. Whilst miquel hajrovic meade and bellerin are strong candidates for the defensive spaces. In midfield yennaris eisfeld and aneke be in with a shout of promotion this summer.. Whilst gnabry afobe and akpom are pressing for the forward roles. There is a fairly decent x1 there all under 21s. So once again I dont see wenger filling the 25 man squad. He certainly won’t replace everyone he sells.

  40. tsgh says:

So Chamakh’s joint record in the champions league has not been broken…

Its funny how the bright lights in London town can make a decent player lead a life similar to a middle-aged toothless man smoking shisha all day in Marakesh eyeing up western tourist … :d

  41. ozgunner10 says:

So fergie now talking a major reshuffle for the Emirates hey? If we didn’t know better you would wonder what other things were discussed in that phone call 🙂

  42. tsgh says:

Laurent Koscielny believes that Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey have played a big part in Arsenal’s recent defensive displays. Hmm…

  43. tsgh says:

it is always good when fellow players recognise the effort them memebers put in…. but then most people wil prefer 10 SC19 to a few more MA08 and AR16’s…

Kos- “We have this in Mikel and in Aaron. They work very hard and very well in midfield. When we have the ball, they play with passes. When we lose the ball, they have the quality to stop a lot of counter-attacks.

“They give themselves for the squad. I think they are the first and second players who run the most on the pitch during a game.

  44. tsgh says:

Hopefully, Poldi, SC19, TW14 and Ox have learnt something this last few days watching BVB 09 and Munich F.C…. players like Reuz who cite TR07 as their idols bust their …. to win the ball back whereas we have 4 or 5 players in our team who spend their time on the pitch looking at re-plays of themselves on the big screen… 😡

Gerv should get a video of how robben went from a player worse and annoying than he is to become an effective player by learning to pass the ball earlier and accurately…

  45. ozgunner10 says:

I am sure the “we ready now and have learned our lessons” speeches will start so soon enough. 8 years and counting ha!

  46. tsgh says:

Oz… Bayern have no PV4 or roy keane in their team and Bender is skinnier than ryo but the whole team puts in a shift…

In fact martinez plays further up the field like Song use to do… and they paid £32m for him as a DM

Just 5 players defending will only make you an Arsenal of 2008-2013… it will not make you Manure or bayern…

  47. Joaquim Moreira says:

    hello !
    It’s a holyday here.
And Cesar? Wasn’t our goalkeeper target? 😉
Arsenal must be much more concentrate in next sunday game then the team for next season. If we can’t reach the CL, all the names you propose maybe only names and dreams.
Moreover, don’t forget the 4th place must have a two games in August for reach the groups stage. So, if we are the fourth, our season begins earlier; if we are out of the CL no “big” names or we must pay high wages. Even the fouth place in this season, you can be out of the CL in September at play for the other UEFA competition. Not a very good scenario…
Besides, AW wants two players for the same position. Good idea, but answer me one thing, with giroud out for 3 games we haven’t a real center forward for replace him? Note: I ask for a center forward not a “adaptation” (TW,Gervinho, Podolsky…)
Only in AW brain TW or Gervinho are central forwards…

  48. ozgunner10 says:

tsgh – good points mate – i am a long proclaimer of the theory its down to much more than players. We don’t train hard enough and we don’t mentally prepare properly and until that changes, we’re going nowhere. To many ex players have commented on our leisurely (Arrogant??) approach and boy, has it shown so many times this year again.

  49. tsgh says:

hi Rico… the telex and fax machines are still in the cupboard… 😉

Manure have a team of 8 Ramseys with the odd skillful talisman it makes them winnersthat can beat anyone. AW go back to square 1… power and pace not Spainish siesta….

Is Maduric better than Chamakh or OG12? Is Ribery or Reuz better than SC19…..

  50. ozgunner10 says:

i know a lot of you hate RVP but to me he raised one point – the clubs ambition is simply poor – He is right and good on the lad for moving on. Plenty of others have and will continue to go until we actually show improvement, real improvement, tangible progression. Wenger is knocking on about this unbeaten run but who have we actually played? Norwich, Swansea, Villa, Fulham??? We have wasted 10 of millions of trash buys, who we were told would transform our game – we pay premium prices at the gates, into the pockets of people like Wenger and his musketeers and for what? To be out of the race before we even turn for the new year every season? How is this going forward? Where does Wenger get this from the team is progressing? I just don’t get it at all – How many end of seasons have we relied on others for Wengers coveted top 4 cup? We’re miles off again the team he declares “don’t know just how good they are” Fantasy land, pure fantasy land. He has surrounded himself with yes men, so many of them mouthing off only to look fools when its on the line.

  51. ozgunner10 says:

tsgh – you are right again, we need to understand the basics of both preparation and readiness, before we get close to the consistent level required to challenge anyone. How many points have we lost (every year) to teams who should not pose a problem, it will always happen but to us, it happens way to often to be bad luck

  52. tsgh says:

Did man u win the league or did $hitty not turn up until last month? It is a matter of opinion…

I can understand how people feel and I fel the same way because I watch lots of teams who i see have spent 10 times what we have spent but are no where better than us but are able to deliver when it matters…
    —————————————————————————–
It is confusing when people are ‘2 faced’ and on occasions say we are under achieving with the players we have but then say AW is rubbish for buying rubbish players…

PV and any other player who has left arsenal have literally balmed the board for them leaving but some fans refuse to accept facts…

To me AW is a romantic genius and loyal man who could have left 6 years ago like ‘arry and o’neil and Mauren-ho do to save face… the fact that he builds a team yearly and keeps us competing until september at least 😀 is a compliment to his talent… most managers can not even fathom that… Arsenal has never dominated the Uk or europe in its history but at least we are steady Joes… the likes of liverpool and Portsmouth well… they are on the blink of extinction … teams like Valencia, florentina and Deportivo have come and gone and come back…

We could be even worse off than the dippers considering they have outspend us in the last 20 years…

  53. tsgh says:

Rico… if you watch the antiques show you may see IG trying to flog it for extra cash… it could pay for another talent emerging from Cambodia in 2 years time…

  54. ozgunner10 says:

i don’t believe and have never believed its the board now. Wenger runs this show to me its obvious. His lap dogs nod and he answers to no one. IMO. and its only my opinion. We start every year after the wake call of Wenger predictions being wide of the mark again, hoping to get a top 4 finish in what has been a very average league for years. The gap is closing because we are standing still. “i decide who we buy” “I decide who we sell” don’t sound like no board decision to me mate. Again only IMO

  55. tsgh says:

As AU rightly stated recently, when ou’old guard’ thought about moving stadium they spent more money looking at how their interest and investment in the team will not be eaten up by bankers etc…

when FC Munchen moved stadium within 3 years they were paying 19 million for players whilst charging half of the prices we charge in the largest and richest economy in europe… 😉

  56. rico says:

Ts – but should it really all be about just the two Manc sides?

Us and a few other sides, but I’d say mainly us, simply fail to turn up to some matches.

There has to be a simple answer to why that is….

  57. ozgunner10 says:

I question your PV statement as well mate – TH, Cesc, Clichy and others, are all on public record thanking Wenger for their releases. When Fergie wanted the top player in England last season, did he ring the board or Wenger to get the job done?

  58. ozgunner10 says:

and i raise one last point – is there a better paid less pressure job in world football than the job Wenger has?? With not a single person to answer to and we wonder why he hasn’t left? He’d be mad to leave is the truth

  59. ozgunner10 says:

ok, off to bed for me – have a great day gooners and how much would it piss off spurs if Fergie fields a weaker United on the weekend – I have a feeling it just might happen you know 🙂

  60. Micko says:

Oz, Fergie will have the luxury of blooding a few youngsters for the next 4 or 5 games, we on the other hand will be stretching every sinew until the 93th minute of the game against Newcastle on the final day of the season, you could be right.
Tsgh re 1.31, what are you talking about.

  61. rico says:

Cg, 1.29 – Nighty to you too.. Better late than never 😉

Wonder where Scott from down under is, he’s not been here for a few days, who upset him 😉

  62. Micko says:

Think they’re gonna take their foot off the gas from here on in rico, it’s job done.
I’m holding you to the ‘done deal’ btw.
    Laters.

FC Bayern net spend in 10 years £268.84M

    Arsenal:net spend -£85.3M

It says it all about our board’s ambition…

    FC Bayern ticket: £561

    Arsenal ST: £1,955

    Bayerns annual commercial revenue is nearly £180M; ours is roughly £53M;

Bayern truly live within their means whilst we on the other hand are like are like the one who was given 1000 talent in the parable of the talents… tight philistines…

  65. tsgh says:

Rick according to wiki…€340 million, ours was £470 million including the re development of Highbury…

In 2005 the euro rate was 1.19 average, therefore it would have cost them £404.6M sterling back then… (my maths, i may be wrong)

Their cost included infrastructure network whilst ours was eh… victoria line and picadilly line over crowding on match day… 😀

I have been to the Allianz and it is something else… the journey there at least is worth more…

Its a joke with cost in this country but then so was Wembley…

  66. tsgh says:

Schweinsteiger earns £55k a day whilst our highest player earns roughly £14.3k a day…

    according to paywizard…

  67. tsgh says:

In 2012, United’s wage bill was £160m. Commercial revenue is estimated at £103.2M which is roughly 2 times ours but less than FC Bayerns…

Club’s gross debt is £436.9m in last three months of year…
    source Deliotte…

The question is does the board see any point really spending big based on the projected return … unless the club becomes an establishment or institution… For a football club to be considered an institution it has to become successful…. I guess an egg and chicken situation that a non-footballing Yank will not lose sleep over… 😉

What I mean is if Arsenal had a tax burden would the Tax man say carry on or will we be ‘Rangers-ed’

On the other hand Man U is a national establishment or institution… imho… same as RM, Barcelona and FC Bayern…

Where do you copy and paste from Ts, Syg comes up with stats too. Maybe you both have the same site open on your PC 😉

  71. tsgh says:

    Trivial rubbish;

If you call it “tea”, and eat it at around half past six, you are almost certainly working class or of working class origin. (If you have a tendency to personalize the meal, calling it “my tea”, “our/us tea” and “your tea” – as in “I must be going home for my tea”, “what’s for us tea, love?” or “Come back to mine for your tea” – you are probably northern working class.) 😀

If you call the evening meal “dinner”, and eat it at around seven o’clock, you are probably lower-middle or middle-middle class.
If you normally only use the term “dinner” for rather more formal evening meals, and call your informal, family evening meal “supper” (pronounced “suppah”), you are probably upper-middle or upper class. The timing of these meals tends to be more flexible, but a family “supper” is generally eaten at around half past seven, while a “dinner” would usually be later, from half past eight onwards.

Their cost included infrastructure network ours included
a state of arce waste desposal unit. I would like to know if they had any help from their government we certainly didnot.

  74. tsgh says:

rick… wiki says Of the 280 million euros invested in its construction, 90 billion were invested by the insurance firm Allianz, which will keep the rights to the name of the stadium until the year 2021. The rest was shared by the two Munich clubs, while the city and the state of Bavaria were responsible for the infrastructure (roads, accesses).

  75. Rick says:

ts the figures you show highlight the main differance between the clubs and why they can buy big and we cannot. Thats how I see it.

Arsenal boss Wenger is “afraid” of Chelsea’s spending power next season….err, well spend some of our money!!
