Stand And Deliver! More For Thierry Henry But What About Dennis?

Morning all.

Arsene Wenger has continued to talk about Thierry Henry and his retirement from football, in particular, Arsenal.

Talking to L’Equipe he said:

We will organise something in his honour and I hope the France team will also give him the recognition that he deserves.

We cannot just end it like this. He deserves a proper tribute. It is very important.

What Arsenal and Arsene Wenger have planned is anyone’s guess, the Mail think it’ll be related to the stadium, perhaps a ‘Thierry Henry’ stand. How about a Dennis Bergkamp stand too, after all, he was pretty special wasn’t he…

Anyway, that’s all for the future…

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been talking to the Evening Standard about Stoke and the fans who laid into Arsene Wenger:

It’s a hard one for me to say what I would say to the fans. I understand their frustration. I would definitely say that and they are completely entitled to their own opinion. They pay good money to follow us around and support their club.

I am sure they have supported us for a number of years so they are definitely entitled to their opinion and I can understand their frustration. But I wouldn’t put that on the manager. We have to stand up ourselves as players.

On that day [at Stoke], it wasn’t the manager’s fault we went 3-0 down like we did in the first half. It was us as a group of players — we were not at the required level.

On that day, it would have been harsh for a fan to completely blame our manager. As players, we are adults and we need to stand up and take some of that blame ourselves.

As far as the way we played, that has to be down the players and yes, they need to take majority of the blame but more importantly, they have to have learned. Perhaps they have as just a few days after that they went to Turkey, a hostile place to say the least and comprehensively battered Galatasary and then when Newcastle came to The Emirates, an equally good, if not better performance earned three very much needed points.

On Sunday we head to Anfield to face Liverpool who will be high on confidence after battering Bournemouth last night… (cough) We had a horrid time during the same fixture last season and we cannot start like we did back then, or how we did at Stoke otherwise the game will be over before it’s got going.

Sunday is a good chance for this crop of players to show they have a bit more steel in them than we have seen too many times this season.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is right, players do need to stand up and start playing to a level they should be and then his manager might not experience again, what he did a couple of weekends ago…..

That’s it for today, just seven more sleeps…….

Once again, the Ox this time, misses the point . It is wrong to concentrate on not playing well in the first half against Stoke , it was the culmination of a succession of below par performances over a long period of time that has sparked this little revolution. Whilst the players , the club and manager continue to comment on the little blip here and there they fail to realise that the supporters are not stupid and have long memories. When they start to acknowledge that these little blips have a habit of repeating themselves then we will be starting to get on the right road.

    On a serious point….

I am not, and never have been, a fan of naming our stands after anyone…

    I think it’s tacky…

Haha, not at all, rico. Just been so busy, I swear these days, I can fall asleep while standing up. 😛

Kev, everyone has the right idea then. 😛

Slow news day… can’t wait to beat Liverpool!

    🙁

Arsenal midfielder Jack Jebb, who is currently on loan at Stevenage, has been ruled out for the next six to eight weeks with a medial ligament injury.

Jebb has featured five times since joining the League Two side on a temporary basis in October, but his injury setback casts his loan spell into doubt, with the current agreement between the two teams set to expire on January 17th.

The former England U17 international has endured a frustrating campaign- he initially failed to hold down a regular place in Arsenal’s U21 side and has featured mainly as a substitute for Stevenage.

An excellent passer and a superb free-kick taker, Jebb has long been regarded as a promising talent but he has had to bide his time for opportunities to impress in the past couple of campaigns.

In other news The Evening Standard reports that Arsenal are close to agreeing a £1.6 million deal for Polish midfielder Krystian Bielik.

Hi Rico, just had a break, quite hectic in London today..,

Rick, that Polish kid sounds interesting.
    Let’s hope it’s not all hype…

    Lata all…

  7. Rick says:

Kev if the reports I have read are correct he sounds rather good.
I gather he is at the Ems for the game on Boxing day ,will Arsene lay down the red carpet.
Disturbing rumours on Akpom and Ajayi, both are saying they want to play for Nigeria. Thats the end of their Arsenal carears if its true.
Watched the schoolboys international in the international break Kev. Pleased to see 4 of our yougnsters play for England, C/H Bola (spelling?) M/F Gillmore
looked pretty solid but it was C/F Joe Willock and L/W Rees Nellson that caught the eye.. If you remember when we finally signed Chris Willock some one said they thoght that Joe was the best of the three brothers. Against Scotland he scored a very good goal and was a constant threat.
But it was Rees Nellson who really stood out (my opinion) Very Nippy excellant first touch with fast feet, and a real handfull for the much bigger Scotland defence. Size wise it was like comparing it with Joe Haverty and Cliff Holton.
I think you will understand what I am saying.

  8. allezkev says:

Rick, I did hear awhile back that Ajayi wanted to represent Nigeria…
    Fair enough..,
Disappointed that Akpom has said he wants to do likewise…
    But that’s his choice…
It does makes me wonder though Rick, why Nigeria find it so difficult to produce a conveyor belt of players themselves…???

    Nigeria has a huge population.

Thousands of Nigerian boys play football.

Nigeria is a seriously wealthy country.

There are a lot of Proffessional teams in Nigeria…

Is the domestic coaching in Nigeria really that useless???

  9. scottfromoz says:

Kev, as with most countries, it’s probably caching at the youth level that let’s them down.
    Kick and chase.
    Win, win, win.
    Morning all.
Does anyone here subscribe to Gunflash?

Ajayi can’t have much of a future at Arsenal anyway, he is 21 and still not deemed good enough to get a game despite us having an injury crisis in his position.

Nigeria also trying to get ex gooner Aneke to sign up for them.

  11. rico says:

Ajayi hasn’t been with us long though, last summer I think but having been on the bench recently, I think he has a chance with us yet.

Also, perhaps AW is ‘scared’ to play him, just like he has been Isaac Hayden as if either had a bad debut for the first team and we lost the game, AW would get a of of flack.

Perhaps if our performances and results been better, using the under 21 players when needed would have been easier…

    Just a thought….

    Morning all…
