Song agrees Barca deal? Vela departs! Squillaci & Park could follow…

Morning Gooners….

Let’s get the gossipy stuff out the way first:

Sebastian Squillaci has found himself another club and according to Sky Sports yesterday, that club is Olympiakos. To be honest, I really don’t care where he goes just as long as he’s gone!

Another on his way could be Park Chu-Young, according to The Metro, the player’s agent has been told he is no longer required and he will be sold off on the cheap.

The most juicy of all rumours though involves Alex Song – apparently our midfielder has agreed terms with Barcelona and Gerard Pique said he would welcome Song’s arrival.

He is physically very strong and is good with the ball at his feet, If he comes, and from what I have read he could do, we would love to have him.

Well, if Alex Song wants to join Barcelona, they are welcome to him. Arsenal need players who are 100% committed, not ones who think the grass is greener elsewhere. It isn’t and we have a fine crop of ground staff to thank for that!

The Sahin saga could come to an end this weekend, where he ends up is anyone’s guess but suggestion is that we are the favourites but you never know these days, footballers are a funny old breed….

That’s the gossip out the way!

Carlos Vela has finally secured his move away from the club and I wish him all the best. He was never really given a chance by Arsene Wenger, not in comparison to a few who were given chance after chance, regardless of their performance.

Oh well, that’s one off the payroll!

Tomorrow is the final pre-season friendly and I really can’t believe where the time has gone. It seems like only yesterday we were all biting our nails during the last game of the season and now here we are just a week away from the new one, one which really needs to see us defending much better and reducing our goals conceded by at least half.

It looks like Steve Bould has been doing his utmost to make sure that happens too and Thomas Vermaelen is enjoying it:

Steve is really good to work with, especially for defenders as he has been a defender himself, he knows what it is all about and gives us a lot of tips. He works a lot on the shape of the team and that is very important, so I am very happy he came to work with the first team.

He is very focused on details. A lot of players, because we are getting older, we know how to play. But he looks at details and the shape of your body and to be honest I am learning a lot from him.

We have to get the shape of the team right! We have been working on it throughout pre-season and we are focusing on that.

I think having your shape right is one of the most important things in football, whether you have the ball or don’t have the ball. We are working really hard on that and Steve does the job really well.

Despite Thomas being the mouthpiece on how things are going pre-season, Robin van Persie is expected to play tomorrow and he will be wearing the captain’s armband, that is of course, according to The Daily Star!

That’s it for another day, good luck to Gooner Mo Farah, who later competes in the 5,000 metres.

What a fitting end to the Olympic Games that would be for all Arsenal Fans….

Have a good one all, ’til tomorrow……

    Howdy folks

How is the going…..Sahin may be coming to Emirates,

Songinho take it easy son…..the Barca bench aint pretty

  2. Long Suffering Gooner says:

I really hope we get Sahin. Honestly, I wouldnt be mad if we could sell Song if he so wishes to join Barca and get Sahin as a direct replacement.

Also, I am sick of us selling to Barca, we should put a clause in contracts that players cant move directly to Barca from us.

  3. Satan to Saint says:

Hey Rico, been away for a while. How are you?

Btw, you missed out on how Cesc declined to tap up Song.

  4. rico says:

LSG – We could hear this weekend about Sahin, not convinced he’s coming our way though.

If Song goes, I’m sure AW will have been aware of this for a while and could be that M’Vila or Capoue is on the way in…

  5. rico says:

All things are very good thanks Erick, how about you?

Can you believe HH is nearly two years old….

Twitter keeps you busy doesn’t it, any gossip from there on Afc?

  6. Satan to Saint says:

Hey I think I wanted to clarify on how we have spent.

Everyone says we have spent 35mln this year and sold players worth of just 4.5million. But I would remind everyone that we already had 23million in surplus from last sells and we have bought players worth 12million more. From that we have recouped 4.5million and I am very much sure with the sell of Park and Nik B we’ll recoup that money and with them off our books we’d have significant savings in our wages too.

  7. Satan to Saint says:

    I am just as good.

    Here is Fab’ part::

    Here’s a closer translation:

Q: You know Song. What’s his possible transfer to Barca looking like?

Cesc: I prefer not to talk about possible transfers, out of respect to Arsenal, a club I really love. You hear lots of names every summer, and anybody that comes will be welcome, but only the manager knows what we need most.

  8. frednerk says:

Selling to Barca…been doing that for years..other than Fab…..good business.
It could be wenger is waiting to offload Song to bring in M’vila..I said some time ago it would be a late signing..you never know

Tommy likes the new signings..wonder if his best mate thinks the same.

  9. rico says:

The Nik saga is a funny one, thought he would have been long gone by now…

Can’t see him anywhere other than on their bench Erick, if he even makes that….

  10. mwikya says:

    Rico it does sometimes

Work has really kept me busy……Two years, congrats Rico you have really kept it going

    Bleeds you

  11. rico says:

    Good for Cesc….

You could just be right fred and if you are, i won’t shed any tears for the man going.

It will be strange though if both RvP and Song were to go, they have been with us a long time….

  12. pwr says:

Doesn’t Barcelona still owe us over 12 million for Cesc? Isn’t it bad enough people consider us a “feeder team”, now we are becoming a financial lending team to Spain. Are we going to bail out Spain when they go bust?

  13. rico says:

Thanks Erick, hope work is going well?

HH has gone from strength to strength, more than I ever imagined, have a really good ‘family’ of bloggers and we have a bit of fun along the way too 🙂

    Not today S2S, 21st I think 😉

  14. rico says:

pwr – I don’t know for sure, but i think some of the money was agreed to be paid yearly.. Again though, I am not sure if I have that right….

We won’t bail out Spain, but we might sign a few more players from their league 😉

  15. W.A.T.H says:

    Morning all,
    Good to see you Erick…!

Most transfer fees are paid over the course of the players contract very few are paid up front that’s just how it is although we’ve paid up front for Cazorla hence we’ve got him so cheaply as they are skint..!

  16. sazz says:

Selling Alex song!prof.plz!don’t do it,why is it that we never benefit from barcelona atleast a season but they keep on take our best product alway from us.

  17. Long Suffering Gooner says:

    I hear you pwr

overmaars, van bronkhurst, silvinho, hleb, henry, cesc and now they were linked with koz and song.

even though it may have been good business to sell these players, it does not give a good message to other clubs and fans because it makes us look like barca’s feeder club. like what chelsea and anderlecht or utd and sporting have going on.

and what makes it worse is that while we have a history of selling to them, in recent years they have continued winning while we win nothing, its annoying.

  18. rico says:

Kos and TV LSG, the difference is that neither of those two want to sign for barca, and both have recently signed new long term contracts…

If Song wants to join them, good luck to him, he’ll need it…

  19. T-phranck says:

Even though i prefer song should stay but if he chooses to leave then it should never be a problem.De jong and sahin would be my pick because they are top notch players who have experience at the the highest level not media overhyped players like m’villa and capuoe who needs to be nurtured for at least a year.remember gooners does not want to see a barren season this time.

  20. W.A.T.H says:

Loosing Song is no great shakes and as most on here have said if he is replaced with M’Vila or Capoue it makes us a far better unit and gives the defence far more protection.

  21. Mike says:

Not a Song fan anyway, think he is too slow in his defensive thinking and makes a lot of poor passes, sure he has made the odd great ball, but when balanced up I would rather have someone with quicker reactions and who gives the bal away less…. 20+ mill or there about would be great to get for him and would weaken Barca! I hope the money will be used on bringing in a quality player though, rather than just banking it as I hope will be the case if RVP goes, we are just building up a stronger looking squad, lets keep up the momentum!

  22. EastSidePaul says:

I would be happy enough to see Song join Barca and for us to replace him with an actual DM. The guy probably cost us untold amount of goals last year by wandering up the pitch were he should not be.

He has poor positioning, slow and make reckless tackles because of his previously mentioned shortcomings.

  23. Abdi khadir says:

Plz if asene wenger whants arsenal to be a clab that can chalange titlles let him remain whith his tallented players . because like SONG if song leeves what is wenger waiting maybe nothing except defeats.

  24. Canadian Gooner says:

    Good morning all.

Rico — Nice quip about the grass not always being greener. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s game against Koln. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to see how and where Podolski, Goroud, and Cazorla are likely to fit into the squad. The Community Shield game should also be interesting; especially watching Mankini’s face if things don’t go well for Abu Dahbi Citeh.

  25. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. With the Spanish economy teetering on the edge of collapse Barcelona and possibly Real Madrid are facing problems I think. I was chatting to a friend who is a financial journalist and he was saying that Barcelona in particular has a very bad cash flow set-up. He reminded me how they had to get financial support from a Spanish bank just to pay their wages a short while ago and some of the bigger banks declined their request. So, if the Spanish banking system really goes bang then they will need a bail out, like Greece. Money and especially cash, will be tight. This could cause problems for those who are still owed money ie Arsenal and if billions are pumped in there will be strict rules applied by Europe (the Germans). What won’t be looked on favorably by the lenders are ridiculous transfer fees by football clubs trying to borrow the money to finance those moves. In the unlikely event that things get better this is going to be really, really bad news for Spanish football in general. So, if Arsenal do decide to sell Song, they would be wise to only deal in cash. Personally. I love it.

  26. rico says:

I’m not overly fussed if Song goes either as long as we get a proper DM in his place…

Hi Canadian, glad you spotted it 😉

Few red cards and little injuries, that what I hope the CS brings 😉

  27. jimoh ganiu says:

hello good morning every gunners faithful we are bless as we follow our deary club come rain come shine. About alex blog song i think he should do whatever he likes becourse we dont need players that are just puting on our red and white jesay without a full commitment, maybe they are our problem only heaven knows let them go gunners remain the same no long thing in wenger we trust

  28. rico says:

    Morning Adam,

A collapse in the Spanish league and the likes of Barcelona FC would be more than welcome by me 😉

  29. rico says:

T-phranck – there is every chance that either M’Vila or Capoue could have an instant impact with us, if of course either join.

Not all players need bedding in time, some are just good at what they do and can play in any side….

  30. Canadian Gooner says:

Adam — I believe the ECB has already supplied funds to a number od Spanish banks to ease their cash flow problems. So, it is quite possible that some of them are skirting with insolvency. Another complication for both Spanish banks and clubs is that the banks are holding player’s contracts as collateral against loans to the clubs. If either one or the other, or both, go broke that could reult in a flood of players coming on the market. This could/would result in Spanish player valuations crashing like Spanish real estate did. The knock on effects would ripple right across Europe

  31. allezkev says:

Good Morning All You Smiley Spasi AKB’s.
    A Very Good Morning Rico.
    On the Hi-Speed to Ashford.
    Ah fresh air.
Song to Barca. I shrug my shoulders. C’est la Vie.
I couldn’t care less if he goes (so sorry Nasher, but I cannot lie).
Hey Wath, how’s things in Islington?

  32. Charlie George aka AK says:

    10 more minutes & I’m in Ashford.
    Morning Adam
    Evening Canuck.
Lee must be on the beach.
    Alright for some.
    See ya lata.

  33. W.A.T.H says:

Greetings AK…. All fine in this part of North London matey 😉
    Nearly pub time…

Bet your glad 2b back home…!

  34. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico — I am sure he will be. He always has been a great bargain hunter. However, if there are bank &/or club failures in Spain, one of the short term effects would be a tightening or unavailability of credit for PL teams. ManUre with it’s high debts, due to the Glazers leveraged buyout, could be vulnerable.

I know, no tears shead; but the loss of Rangers fom the SPL has caused all sorts of problems for the whole league. Season ticket sales are down, due in part the loss of the big selling Auld Firm games. Their TV revenues are being similarly effected. The market abhors uncertainty.

  35. rico says:

CG – I recall AW making a comment a few years back about how financial hard times would hit football and he was right. Maybe that is the real reason he has been so willing to keep our finances in good order.

He needed have been quite so tight though 😉

  36. Canadian Gooner says:

    Adam — Great article!

Rico — I’m sure The Swiss Ramble did a great article or two on the financial implications of FFP. I’ll have to troll through his archives.

  37. Adam says:

Near me, in the east then. I am a Highbury boy, cruelly displaced to the east.
Was that the last time you came to London then Rico?
I went to Camden Market quite recently. It was awful.

  38. Adam says:

CG. The Swiss Ramble is always top heavy but their stuff is written by people who really understand football finance. Like Gambon.

  39. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico — As for Wenger being tight, thats what happens when your manager has a Masters in Economics. We should be thankful for his parsimony. Unlike ManUre, we don’t have to float a share offering on the New York Stock Exchange to keep our club afloat. Arsene may yet have the last laugh with Sir Anal.

  40. rico says:

Last time I went to London was to The Emirates Adam, the season before Henry left, he was injured and I met him – well, for about 2 mins and shook his hand 🙂

  41. rico says:

    😆 Adam, that wasn’t me….

CG – I can understand why he has been frugal, but at the same time he has neglected the squads real needs. No-one ever wants or have wanted him to spend what we haven’t got but I think he went beyond that….

  42. Adam says:

    He’s never forgotten it Rico.
You seem to be very well connected in footballing circles.
Soon, we will drag you to London. I am dispatching wild horses to Berkshire to accomplish it. 🙂

  43. Canadian Gooner says:

Adam — Yes, their articles are often dry and take a while to digest, but there is always a wealth of back-up information, graphs, spreadsheets, etc. to support their conclusions. Unlike the tabloid journalism of so many financial publications.

  44. Adam says:

Looks like Fergie is timing his retirement perfectly. The record for burst blood vessels in any one person’s nose stands at 63,841. Fergie is on track to beat that within the next year.

  45. Shevo says:

Does anyone really believe this media driven bollox that Song has agreed terms with Barcelona even tho he’s still in Germany with the first team? The same media who last week said Van Persie to Manure was a done deal and he was on his way to the Manc Slum to put pen to paper. Despite! Yes you guessed it!! Van Persie is still in Germany with the Arsenal first team.
Are some of our Arsenal fans really that gullible? Obviously they are judging by some of the ill thought out comments on here.

  46. Adam says:

CG. When you see an institution like Rangers go bang it makes it more real and in times of really deep recession it can happen quite easily.

  47. rico says:

I suspect the poor child i knocked over in my attempts to get to him hasn’t forgotten it either Adam 🙂

The only way I am connected is via the Internet & you know the saying about wild horses 😉 😉

  48. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico — You may well be right, but was it Wenger’s decision(s), the Board’s, or the owners’? We may never know, certainly not as long as Wenger is employed by Arsenal. It would be contrary to his ethics to divulge details such as that.

Anyway, enough of economics; onto lighter topics — who will we buy next and what will the score be against Koln tomorrow?

  49. rico says:

    😆 re Fergie….

Bit harsh Shevo, no-one truly believes all the media garbage but reality is, not many here will shed a tear if Song goes..

You may, and I respect that but hey, respect our views too….

  50. Micko says:

    Morning all,
A little mention for Park last night, scored again for his country, picked up the bronze medal and in so doing excusing himself from Military service, treated like crap by Wenger, I wish him well where ever he ends up.
Made the mistake of going into a first floor bar in Camden years ago, never again.

  51. Adam says:

Rico. You know I ” put my shed up” in order to host the get together. I have ordered the decorations and intend to use Stan’s underpants as bunting. I also have a sprig of mistletoe for you and Stan. 🙂

  52. Solomon timi says:

Morning my one spirited arsenal fans,….it is clear dat all d players dat are eager 2 leave are players dat do not luv our team, fab, nasri, clichy, flamini, rvp all are bunches of ipocrites ,bcox if they do they would stay,…allow Song 2 do wat he feels is right,.its a test, lets see if he pass

  53. Canadian Gooner says:

Shevo — Too many people believe the old Indian adage “if it is written, it is so”. I think the internet gives people the anonimity of the mob where they lose their capacity of independent thought.

Personallty, I think these rumours are just part of the usual Barcelona Recruitment Campaign to poison relationships between player and current club.

  54. EastSidePaul says:

Anyone else watching the Premier league classics on ESPN right now? Arsenal – United from 2005. Team is unreal. Vieira, Ljungberg, Bergkamp, Pires, Henry, Campbell, Cole, Lauren, Flamini. On the bench we have RVP, Cesc and Reyes!

  55. EastSidePaul says:

I agree with Adam, why would the media lie? They have nothing to gain and have only ever had the fans best interests at heart.

  56. rico says:

Morning Micko – I too feel sorry for Park, bet he wishes he’d never set foot in our club. The way he has been treated is simply awful…

Yet Chamakh was allowed to be on the bench….

  57. Borntobeagunner(btbag) says:

The fact is that, we’ve got another Song hater as a blog writer here. From his writing, he never hides his feeling but its obvious. Apart from RVP, who is more committed 100% like Song, Kos., Vermmy, Szczesny, and Sagna? The writer only quotes Pique’s statement which in no where shows that Song had agreed a personal terms with Barca. Neither did he quote the source from which he learnt that Song has agreed personal terms with barca. Pique only says ‘from what he reads, he think Song could come to Barca’. Pique can read whatever the media vultures writes for him to read, its lets for him to believe or not, but i dont think thats enough for any Song hater’s writer to categorically put up a headline that Song has agreed a personal term with Barca. All these headlines point to one direction to a people like me; ‘fibble minded haters who are lazy’. Should have done your homework well b4 putting up such headline.

  58. EastSidePaul says:

When Song does his job he does it well, but that is a rare occasion, he leaves our already shaky defence exposed all too often, he is a DM in a team that leaked 49 goals last season, that not something to put on your CV.. I personally feel he abandons his duties in search of personal gain and glory as an attacking option, which has a negative outcome on the team.

  59. Canadian Gooner says:

ESP — Re your 11:21 post. I almost fell for it again. I don’t want Rico to wrap me on the knuckles again. I’ll have to be careful until I get to know you all a little better.

  60. rico says:

    Sure is Wath… Doh indeed…….!

That’s just it and as Scott (i think) said, when he is doing what he should and he’s on form, we play very well but frustratingly, he doesn’t do that enough….

As the post said though which was obviously missed by ‘one’ – IF Song wants to go, then he can go as we only need players who want to play for one team, ours…

  61. W.A.T.H says:

CG, most of what we say on here is very tongue in cheek 😉 Although I think the media do a great job 😀

  62. EastSidePaul says:

Canadian Gooner – Ha it will take time!

Sad to see Vela go, I thought he could have made it if he’d been given games as an out and out striker in front of RVP, the guy can finish a ball!

  63. rico says:

Keep nipping off to play for Mexico didn’t help Vela, and didn’t he also have a ‘Chamakh experience’ in Las Vegas?

  64. mwikya says:

Rico I totally agree…….HH has come a long way….good to sreee it going from strength to ststrength

    Thanks to you Rico…..

On other news PST new Brazilian recruit Lucas will earn 35k a day……not experience…..football going crazy eh

  65. rico says:

Why isn’t RvP making these kind of statements??

Thomas Vermaelen believes Arsenal’s first-team squad is shaping up nicely ahead of the new season.

Arsène Wenger has already made three major summer signings, bringing Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla to Emirates Stadium.

Vermaelen is pleased with the progress the team have made during pre-season and is confident they can hit the ground running.

“The squad looks strong,” he told Arsenal Player “There are not a lot of injuries at the moment, apart from Bacary [Sagna] and Jack [Wilshere] – for the rest it looks good.

“Everyone looks fit and sharp and it is good that we have so many new players as well.

“At the beginning of last season I was injured with the same problem I had before. For the rest of the season I played quite a lot of games so I was quite pleased with that, but of course I want to do better this year. I want to perform better as well.”

Spain international Cazorla joined up with his new team-mates at their German training camp on Monday and he, together with young winger Serge Gnabry, have impressed Vermaelen.

“Cazorla has trained two or three times and he fits in really well with the Arsenal philosophy and how we want to play,” said Vermaelen. “He is a great signing.

“This is the first time I have seen Serge, but you can see he is really quick, good with the ball and a really talented player.”

  66. Canadian Gooner says:

ESP — If the article on the Arsenal FC website, that Rico quoted in her opening post, are a true reflection of Vermaelen’s opinions and not AFC’s PR staff; I think our defence will be more robust this season. Also, fingers crossed that we don’t have the rash of injuries to our backline that we suffered last season.

  67. W.A.T.H says:

His Captains column in the programme next week could be interesting !! That’s of course if he’s kept on as Captain..!?!?!?

  68. EastSidePaul says:

It will be odd when TV is captain, first captain since Vieira to rightfully earn it not just given to him as a bargaining chip to make him stay!

  69. Shevo says:

Rico- my comments may be a bit harsh but not very far from the truth tho. Song has been one of our improved and most Loyal player over the past few couple of seasons. For some of our fans to now turn on him just because of some media bollox do make them gullible in my IMO.
Of course they are entitled to their opinion as am I, but why slag a player off who has not even come out and said he actually wants to leave. If and when he does, then that’s a totally different matter.

  70. EastSidePaul says:

Shevo we aren’t slagging him off, we criticize his performances, we have said areas where he is solid and areas where he is not so solid!

If I was slagging him off I would say he has a shite haircut!

  71. W.A.T.H says:

Who’s slagging him off Shevo…????? Seems to me people are merely commenting on where they feel he lets us down thats not slagging him off thats being truthful and honest and not pulling the wool over your eyes to ignore whats blatantly obvious but as everyone says it’s again all about opinion..!

  72. Canadian Gooner says:

Has RvP painted himself, or allowed himself to be painted, into a corner by the posting on his website. He may feel that any further comment will be inadequate and bound to offend someone. Nature abhors a vacuum and will try to fill it; much like many fans and journalists are trying to fill Robin’s silence with supposition. We’re just going to have to let this play out. As long as Robin acts in a professional on-field we support him.

  73. Adam says:

Shevo. Who has “turned on” Song? All players have their admirers and detractors, I, for instance, have always been a huge admirer of Squillaci and am very sad to see that he might be leaving but I just have to grin and bear it and suffer the completely unjust criticism that he has received. We will miss his equine presence at the heart of our defence.

  74. rico says:

Good point there Wath, would be a tad hypocritical of our captain..

Shevo – I am just passing on what is in the news… and as much as Song may have improved, imho he is too songinho and not enough the Song he should be…

  75. W.A.T.H says:

    Ask AK……………. He’ll remember Fothringham…!
Am off out, I have a thirst, may see you later if not enjoy your day.

  76. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Ian Ure’s finest hour ….?

Senderos v Doncaster, Adams v Man Utd, Blockley v Sunderland, Cesar v Luton etc have all had Ian Ure type moments

  77. southyorkshiregunner says:

    Hiya Rico.
Gossip? I should have been in Burnley at a wedding about now, but am over in Scunthorpe working the counter at the gym as my lad wanted a day off…. Had a curry and a few beers last night…. The owner of the restaurant (Man Utd fan) told me that no matter who we buy we won’t win anything and that they (Man Utd) don’t need Van Persie…???
….I said that they only “don’t need” Van Persie as it’ll make Rooney look even uglier…

Just for the record, this is the best Arsenal blog on the web. If it weren’t I wouldn’t be here.
    Lovely people too.

  78. southyorkshiregunner says:

    just seen this clip.
I went to West Africa in March and whilst I was there I read the book

Very, very interesting. Arsenal actually enquired about buying him. He only played three seasons of football, and like Paul Vaesson his world fell apart

  79. Borntobeagunner(btbag) says:

Rico, you write saying ‘apparently Song has agreed personal terms with Barca’. You should also remember that Song wasn’t in Arsenal just from last season. Song was staying put when Cesc and Nasri was in the team. If you look carefully, Fabregas like passess was never there when Fabregas left bcos, in short, wenger cannot directly replaced him for the fact that you cant get another Fabregas right now. In our playing pattern last season, it doesnt seems Wenger was using staying put defensive midfielder and that’s why Song has one of the highest assist in the league that any defensive midfielder could have in a season. Scott Parker was staying put for the spurs, he is seen as one of the best defensive midfielder around, yet… Maybe, you should compare stats of such as Parker and Song before your likes focus on Songs’ negativity but ignoring his positivity just bcos your likes wants him at a defensive spot at a point in time of play, he was not there, no players covers for him(play system i guess) and for that, Song is the scapegoat for the 49 conceeded goals last season. I never see in your article where Song says he wants out for Barca, so, why saying ‘if he want to go’? as if you heard it from Song himself. Write your article as a rumour and i will see it as a gossip. You write as if, its something you’re already certain of. Come off it and admit it. Your article was not Song neutrally written, my likes can decode your types based on your write up. You should have wisely hidden yourself as one of Songs’ haters(fibble minded). On other news, efforts appreciated. I should have said that in my first comment.

  80. southyorkshiregunner says:

Hiya btbag. Song is not a bad player, he just isn’t a player that fits into the integral dynamics of Arsenal. He IS the weak link. That is my opinion, whereas you have yours.
One person’s fish eggs is another man’s caviar.

If you replace Song with either Sahin / M’Vila / Toulalan or the kid from Toulouse into our set up, you would find that the dynamics of the team would change, and change for the better.
Song possesses the athleticism, power, strength etc., but his head/mentality is the problem. He lacks pace too.

Song is a player who divides opinion. A bit like Eboue, if you like.

  81. southyorkshiregunner says:

Like I’ve said before – if you compare Eboue to Gary Neville, Eboue had more power, pace and athleticism than Neville could ever hope for. What he didn’t have was a mentality to use his attributes to full effect, whereas Neville did.
Neville won everything as a player as he was integral to Man Utd’s dynamics, whereas Eboue was a loose cannon.
A loose cannon is quite capable of taking out the enemy, but it can also shoot yourself in the foot.

  82. rico says:

btbag – and it was in the gossip section, come on, lighten up and see the first part of the post for what it is and stop making so many assumptions…

You want to see all that Song does as being positive, well that’s fine, I don’t . I’m a realist….

  83. rico says:

It’s out now Syg, don’t know what happened there 🙁

That Manure fan sounds like he’s a little worried about our additions 😉

Thanks re the blog, maybe in time btbag might think so too – once he/she realises that we don’t just criticise players all the time…

Couple of things to do in the garden, back shortly….

  84. allezkev says:

Hey Wath, Islington is fantastic at this time of year…
    Everyone anticipating the new season..
Islington is the place to be…
    Enjoy me old mate… 😉

  85. allezkev says:

    Wow, this beer tastes fantastico…

Got Hendrix on the CD player.

    Totally chilled…

    Afternoon Madam Rico…

    What’s on the agenda today..?

  86. Adam says:

Kev. I decided to forgo the Roller as it would have upset the neighbors. I am in the planning stage but have seen the phallic symbol I fancy and am working out how to finance it. Enjoy your beer Kev and listen to “And the wind cries Mary”.
Rico. I think Fibbling is a term dedicated to shed erection in the urban garden.

  87. Scott from Oz says:

So we have our daily Songsters on here, looking after their man.
Well, they’re entitled to their opinion, and they’re entitled to be wrong 🙂
    Rico,for what’s its worth,fibble means brilliant,sharp or witty,but you knew that!!

  88. allezkev says:

Well, that’s Almunia, Vela and Squillaci (almost) gone, clearing the decks for one more quality signing, then we’re ready to rock ‘n roll…

  89. allezkev says:

That’s very gracious of you Adam…

I suspected, when i met you, that you was a man with deep feelings for his fellow man (and woman)..

Band of Gypsies, Live at Filmore east…

  90. Adam says:

Billy Cox and Buddy Miles. A different rhythm section to Redding and Mitchell.
So Kev, a cab from Tower Pier to Tayyabs, where you had your ruby with the chaps recently. Five people. How much?

  91. Lewis says:

Hey guys. How are we all?

Good stuff on Squill and park. Funny that there is no such news on the self proclaimed ‘future world player of the year’ Nik B.

Song is a tricky one, on the one hand I think he is a decent player and he did a great job last season with Hollywood passes, but the amount of times I was screaming at the TV because of his lack lustre ‘easy option’ passes and lack of effort to immediately win the ball back points out he sometimes does more harm than good. I think he’d be a good back up, but If he’s going, get it done now! Bring in Sahin or a more robust DM, de Jong anyone? Could be a good stop gap.

RVP to stay 1 more year, Yes Yes, I think so.

  92. Scott from Oz says:

Just a quick stopover from me us….have a great day,I shall catch you all later for a full report of the Koln game.

  93. southyorkshiregunner says:

Van Persie for 1 more year. Decent piece earlier on “Untold Arsenal” re: just that, Lewis.

  94. NashuaGunners says:

Good Morning all and to you Rico

@Kev 10:23, “I couldn’t care less if he goes, (so sorry Nasher, but I cannot lie.”)

Nuff respect Kev, I know it not personal just opinion.

Do I like Song? the answer is YES.
Is he the best defensive Midfielder (as some suggested, i.e DM) in the EPL? the answer is NO.
Is he the best in Arsenal crops currently that fit the role? the answer is YES.
Can we get a better replacement that can adhere to only his defensive duties? the answer is Yes.

Song is 24 YO; he’s only going to get better as his years roll by in Arsenal shirt. If he stays there is always room for improvement IMHO. As Adam once said … he has those killer passes… when situations come calling.

Opinions going to differ when it comes to players that plays day-in and day-out in Arsenal shirt, and Song is one of those players.

One man’s Maserati is another man’s transportation. No pun intended SYG. 🙂

  95. southyorkshiregunner says:

Ryo Miyaichi (宮市 亮 Miyaichi Ryō ?, born 14 December 1992) is a Japanese footballer who plays as a winger for Premier League side Wigan Athletic on loan from Arsenal?

    I wasn’t aware we’d agreed a loan move Kev?

  96. NashuaGunners says:

@ SYG, ok mate and you?, hope he stays (Song) but if not let get M’Villa. The other day when you posted Rocky video when I saw Ian Wright cries, I almost did the same. The video was superb.

  97. NashuaGunners says:

@Kev, do you resides in Straford area? What happened to those low-cost housing complex? Is it true that they demolish them for the Olympics. The reason I ask because I was there few years ago visiting a friend.

  98. southyorkshiregunner says:

I don’t know how old you are Nash, but David Rocastle was an exceptional player with a heart like a lion. The first game I ever saw him was in a FA Cup game away at Grimsby when Arsenal beat them 3-4. He hit the bar.
He also scored a “goal” which was disallowed against Man Utd. If you thought that clip in the 1-1 was good – this goal was hit from the half way line. Even the commentator was taken aback.
I could never understand why George Graham sold him to Leeds? He certainly never wanted to leave.

  99. allezkev says:

Nasher, my taxi garage is in Stratford…

I live in Romney Marsh area, South Kent….

Are you in the Middle East?

  100. allezkev says:

Not sure about the housing Nasher, i imagine that there’s going to be a lot more regeneration in that area as it’s so convenient for Canary Wharf…

  101. allezkev says:

SYG, i saw Rocky’s debut at Highbury, think we were playing Newcastle.
GG sold him because of his injuries i suspect…

  102. NashuaGunners says:

Not in the Middle East but the States. I’ve seen you talked a lot about Stratford so I was assuming you live there.

  103. allezkev says:

    Football Source‏@source_football

Rumours circulating that RVP has signed a new contract with #AFC #SourceFootball

  104. southyorkshiregunner says:

The water company – Veolia Water are doing some tunnelling under the Dymchurch railway line in the Romney Marsh area, Kev as part of a potable water pipeline…
… How’s that …. all the way from Doncaster, eh?

Can you remember Dave Rocastle’s mega perm hairstyle when he first broke through …

  105. allezkev says:

SYG, those plonkers buggered up my road a couple of years ago SYG, some massive drainage thing….

I’m on a septic tank, so Veolia can go whistle… 🙂

  106. southyorkshiregunner says:

Stratford? Done the Blackwall tunnel a few times and walked through a tunnel BAM Nuttall were lining as part of the O2 (then Millennium Dome) Arena’s sewerage system…

  107. southyorkshiregunner says:

Southern Water are responsible for that, Kev… Within the next few years all these outlying villages should have first time sewerage schemes implemented…. They are not big jobs … I wouldn’t fancy a septic tank … Especially this weather …

  108. NashuaGunners says:

East Coast Kev. I lives in New Hampshire close to Boston Massachusetts. Look almost like London and have most of the names of England cities.

  109. southyorkshiregunner says:

I told RockyRocastle on here a few days ago … when we got our first (and only) grand kid I bought him an Arsenal shirt with his number & “Rocky” on the back.

  110. Micko says:

SYG, funny Big Tone mentioning Marco Van Basten, he nearly finished Adams England career before it even started back in 88 Euro’s.
Kev, thought I heard your dulcet tones, re 3.35, that will disappoint a few on here, hope its true.

  111. Micko says:

Septic tanks, one of the worlds biggest polluters, worse than cars if you believe what the politicans say.

  112. allezkev says:

    John Cross‏@johncrossmirror

RvP still with #afc in Germany. Unless something dramatic changes, he’s in line to play vs Cologne on Sunday. I’m told dressing room buzzing

  113. allezkev says:

    John Cross‏@johncrossmirror

If #afc sell Song it’ll be because they can get someone to do his job better. I used his assists record in this week’s column. Very good

  114. Micko says:

I still rely on teletext, only its getting harder to see.

So glad I’m no-where near Wembley today, its a real nightmare matchdays.

  115. allezkev says:

Sorry SYG, just noticed, been on Twitter, that’s great mate…
You certainly know how to bring up your Grandchilden the right way… 🙂

  116. Micko says:

Unfortunately not, due to unforeseen circumstances not sure when my first game will be, had no takers for my season ticket either, but i’m sure I read rico say its on the box.

  117. allezkev says:

    That’s a bummer Mick…
My boy offered me the Sunderland game, but i told him to go as we’re doing Stoke together in a couple of weeks…
Can’t you sell the tickets you don’t use?… wow, you should speak to the supporters club, they’ll sell your ticket when you don’t use it…

  118. allezkev says:

    Jamie Sanderson‏@YoungGunsBlog

Arsenal have had further contact with Málaga post Cazorla deal. Arsenal may send some players there on-loan. Good to see.

  119. rico says:

Micko – you can always try and sell them here, I can put something in the post and then forward details of anyone who wants to buy them??

  120. rico says:

    No goonster you numpty 😉

Kev, I like the twitter rumour re RvP, and the Malaga news, great for both clubs….

  121. goonster says:

me too maam, hopefully the creep ll sign a new contact and put us all out of our misery. i ve had enough. either he signs or fucks off.

  122. goonster says:

the song thingy has been over flogged. i want him out too. he really pisses me off with his numerous hairdo. he looks like a shit head most times. commit to us or fucking get the hell on. ingrates all of them. frimmers is right though….loyalty is a thing of the past.

  123. rico says:

I think devil’s comment on Song earlier summed him up really well and he’s right, he is only 24 years old, if he could be more disciplined and less clumsy in dangerous areas, he could improve immensely…

  124. goonster says:

dont get me started maam……song is shit. let’s sell him and get a more reliable non african player. someone who wont bugger off to africa every two years. let’s get capoue!

  125. goonster says:

hey did you just say “poor guy”………..no way. the only “poor guys” in this situation is us( the fans, especially me). he’s been injured for most of his career with us then BAM one good seaso he then thinks he’s no longer robin but BATMAN. well tell him to fuck off. we ll better off without him. the list is endless, first viera, henry, cesc and nashit now him. let him go. with or without him…..arsenal lives on. COYFGS!!!!!

  126. Micko says:

Thanks for the offer rico but it just ain’t worth the hassel.

I think that was Nashua, Songs blood brother who said that.

    How’s the form Stan.

  127. goonster says:

hey micko, how’s it going? men look at my hands shaking. am really mad micko. rico just called robin a “poor guy”……can you believe that? christ……….

  128. rico says:

    goonie 🙄

No probs Micko, I understand, but just shout if you change your mind…

Ah, thought devil said something about his age etc earlier, Specsavers for me 😉

  129. goonster says:

then why is rico laughing at my kami…..fibber dont mean no ramancer you ninny. i ll wait till adam comes on.

  130. agirlagunner says:

Erick!!! Where have you been?? We have missed you! 🙂

Hello, all. All chores done for the day, rico?

I do wonder about who Frimpong may have meant. Interesting!!

  131. agirlagunner says:

goonie, a fibber is a boy who wears girl’s clothes. 😀 And goes by names like Staninha or Goonerette. 😀 😀

  132. agirlagunner says:

Oh no, rico!! You work too hard. I saw the Brazil-Mexico football finals at the Olympics… That guy linked to us, Damiao missed a good one.

  133. rico says:

Stanley, Micko and agag are teasing you, a fibber is a nice way of telling someone that they are not speaking the truth 😉

  134. agirlagunner says:

A fibber is one who has run out of clean trousers, stan. 😀

I feel much the same way when I’m at the shops, rico. No matter how tired, I manage to keep on going. 😛

Quiet day on the rumor front. 🙂

  135. goonster says:

AGAG i have a stack of trousers your height! i always have one handy. creaming or no creaming………..park won a bronze??!!! you dont say?

  136. goonster says:

yipeeeeeeeeeeee, so much for neymar being the next big thing. i think he’s just overhyped.( but God i ll love him in a arsenal shirt.)

  137. rico says:

Tell poor Stanley the truth agag, he doesn’t believe me…

😆 re the shopping, talking of which Kev and Adam must be enjoying this beautiful summer evening we have here in England….

And Lee, well he’ll be baking in the Spanish sunshine 🙂

  138. goonster says:

guys what do you do when a lady…………..christ the guys aint here yet……….never mind ladies. am good.* whistling*

  139. rico says:

    Twitter:

News from @M_Kubacki that Arsenal have taken 17-year-old Lokomotivi Tbilisi defender Nika Chanturia on two week trial.

  140. goonster says:

yes maam, i ve always like him. plays with a constant smile on his face. pity he couldnt cut it with us.

  141. NashuaGunner says:

Micko don’t be telling everybody my secret; I asked you to keep it quiet or else SYG gonna use it against it.

  142. agirlagunner says:

No, Vela didn’t play. Was he even in the squad? I thought he rejected it.

Neither did dos Santos. He did his hammy in, I think. Neymar has great movement; but no cutting edge. Mexico scored early, and Brazil tried half-heartedly to get back in the game. Hulk was Brazil’s best player.

It was a bit of a snoozefest, tbh.

  143. agirlagunner says:

Goonie, rico was telling you the truth about “fibber”. 😛 😛

Hi, Nashua. Howdy?? If Song does go; he would have effectively ended his career. He’ll be another Hleb. Flamini. Nasri…

  144. goonster says:

dude am always here man…….lighting up the place? dont know what you mean fella. but i ve got love in me, AGAG is alright. that damned mud slide didnt get her or her family. i mean could i be happier?

  145. NashuaGunner says:

Agag, Song owed AW big time for what he has done for his career and if given the opportunity he’ll come good for years to come. But again one never know with these players, money before career.

  146. agirlagunner says:

And this is from someone, who said he would cry if he were made to leave arsenal. Eeeeeek. I know it’s all rumors at this point, but I wouldn’t forgive him if he left.

Goonie, you are a fibber. 😛

  147. goonster says:

awwwwwwwwwww shucks……….thanks bro. means a lot to me. AGAG, if am a fibber then you r a “fibbress”………….hey adam, what’s a fibber big guy?

  148. Adam says:

A fibber is someone who tells little lies, often with a humorous slant. Nothing bad just a gentle little fib.

  149. agirlagunner says:

Adam, sloooow news day. I’m eyeing a pair of shoes right now. That’s all the news I’ve got. 😀 😀

    There’s a Nashua-Goonie love-in/bromance, too. 😀 😀

  150. Adam says:

So Stan, are you still working in the US? When do you head home for shore leave? Christmas? Are you coming to the HH Christmas party?

  151. Adam says:

Nashua. I am enjoying Man Utd’s slow unravelling myself and Mankini’s tantrums of course. Did I read that you on the East Coast of the US?

  152. goonster says:

you bet i am……….i wont miss it for the world.hey AGAG, what are you wearing for the xmas thingy? how about we both wear the same thing………..afterall am gonna be mr AGAG pretty soon. SO WHAT CHU SAY LIL MAMA? Please?

  153. NashuaGunners says:

Gooster Song is replaceable but suppose he not the one making all this fuse about Barca? We need to keep our first 1x with little changes and Song should be part of that first 1x. Remember, maybe he can make the necessary adjustment to surprise everyone this season.

  154. agirlagunner says:

Adam, I haven’t spent a single cent on any frivolity since July 21. 🙂 🙂 I marked that in my calendar. 😀 😀 A red letter day!!

It’s the Adams who shop shop shop.

  155. Adam says:

Funny Stan, I don’t see you in Jimmy Choo’s but, whatever turns you on. Agag, Nashua – are you guys coming?

  156. NashuaGunners says:

That correct Adam. New Hampshire close to Massachusetts. This will be make or break season for Arsenal. I hope no injures. ManU are in trouble but just don’t know it yet.

  157. Adam says:

No Agag. We have decided to stop. If I can squeeze my car in during the next 6 months then that would be good buyit depends on a business deal bearing fruit first. Don’t tell Mrs Adamtjough. She is more practical than me.

  158. agirlagunner says:

I’m not going, goonie. 🙁 But it would be the perfect opportunity for you to wear one of your “costumes”. 😀 😀

But nashua, he hasn’t signed a new contract, so in a manner of speaking, he’s making a fuss, too. Grrr.

  159. agirlagunner says:

Good luck on the business deal, then Adam. I foresee a new car in the next three months. 😛 😛

Women are generally more practical than men. 😉

  160. Adam says:

Obviously I don’t include you in any of this Stan. It has become clear to me that you are an uber-mensch.
Have you been here often Goonie?

  161. NashuaGunners says:

Adam 30 minutes drives to Boston where I believe they made the movie and about 2 hours where they made Amistad in Connecticut. I ‘ve never been to the actual filming locations though.

Agag, all the guy needs is a raise and he’ll sign. Some players are grateful to people who help they to flourish in their career even though some are moneyseeker.

  162. Adam says:

Kev. Can you try your art of persuasion? I don’t think the old dropped fiver routine will cut it though.

  163. agirlagunner says:

Nope, adam. 🙁 I can’t manage to convince anyone to go. I should be off to Paris in October though. Christmas, I think will be spent in NY. I always pull for London, but we always end up somewhere else. Next year, I hope. Although the way it’s looking, Tuscany will win. 😉

  164. NashuaGunners says:

Adam don’t know yet but I’ve been to the UK God only knows how many times. I had a son born in Guys and St. Thomas’s Hospital, use to go every other month.

  165. Adam says:

I would have thought an Hermes scarf Kev.
Agag. Paris is only a few hours away from The Emirates by train and is a wonderful city spoiled by the fact that the French live there. Parisians are the most ghastly people. Tuscany? Comme Bella questa? But crazy prices and just too many weirdos.

  166. goonster says:

HH veteran? bah, i am HH! I started this blog with rico while you were still in leshit! remember? hahahahahaha just kidding mate. so how are you?

  167. Adam says:

Ah Nashua, Kev and I know them well. I was in a coffee shop near Guys just the other day. So have you seen Arsenal play at the Emirates then?

  168. seedou says:

    good evening!!!!!!!!!!!!
where is pique getting his gossips from, cos it seems he is convince that song is joining buscalona.
congratulations to squilaci for attracting another club.
cant wait to see Mighty Gunners in action tomorrow!!

  169. allezkev says:

Nice one Nasher, for me it was the the Salvation Army Hospital at Lower Clapton Road and Forest Gate hospital, Forest Gate….

  170. Adam says:

If Song goes, it will be because Wenger wants to sell him and not because that cretin Piqué opened his mouth. With a contract to 2015 Arsenal hold all 4 aces on this one. If Wenger does sell him he will squeeze Braca’s niags for a high price.

  171. agirlagunner says:

Have I mentioned UK makes it almost impossible for tourists to go? Your visa application has questions on pets, for crying out loud. 😛 I know London’s near Paris, but that means two visa applications, two interviews, too much paperwork. Bummer!!

We’re attending a wedding in Paris, Adam. 🙂 I was asking my friend, what exactly was wrong with the Philippines that she couldn’t get married here??? But the husband-to-be is Parisian, so there. Still sorting everything out. Hotels in Europe are crazy expensive. A night somewhere so-so in Paris costs as much as a suite in some 5-star hotel in Bangkok. And the rooms are small!!!

  172. Adam says:

I have a shed I recently erected Agag. You could kip in there. Are you thinking of bringing some pets then?

  173. agirlagunner says:

Hiya, AK, be careful you’re talking to goonie the ubermensch. 😆

How kind of you, Adam. 😛 Thanks for proffering your shed. The thing on pets is among the standard questions. It’s hard to travel when you’re from a third world country. 🙁 The default assumption seems to be that you’ll be an illegal worker.

Hiya, seedou. re: Song— well, it won’t really feel like a loss, provided that we get a replacement in.

  174. agirlagunner says:

Goonie, go watch the women’s volleyball finals. 🙂 I’m sure you’d like seeing all those gams.

  175. Adam says:

Just before I go. Yes Kev. Absolutely, whenever you’re in town, let me know. It would be great to see you again mate.

  176. agirlagunner says:

Oh no!!! I missed Farah. I tuned in to the wrong channel. Eeeeeek.

Maybe August next year, Kev. Plane fare’s to London’s a bi**h!

  177. seedou says:

yep Adam i feel honored too!!
wish Vela the best but not against AFC.he made carling cup very nice to watch by then.

  178. seedou says:

i`m off for now but i will come back later.
hope i will heard a good news went i come.i will love to hear that a DM has sign +sahin and mario gotze.

  179. agirlagunner says:

Good night, my friends!! 🙂 Oh you bet, AK. You’d have a paying customer, promise. 😀 😀

  180. rico says:

Nighty agag, have a good sleep…

I’m off too for the day, whacked!!

    Catch you tomorrow…

    Nighty all, stay safe..

  181. goonster says:

yeah……to the moon and back. AGAG’s love took me soaring over the stars then “thump” am back to God’s green earth.

  182. goonster says:

heard that van persie ll captain the side tomorrow bondex…….if that is not a statement i dont know what it is.

  183. goonster says:

cool, i ve been to lagos twice. nice city. gosh the women are something else though. cant wait to go back.

  184. bondex says:

well a big part of me wants him to stay…a large part tells him to f…k off…IMHO,we’ll be massive if he stays

  185. bondex says:

you serious?!!!!..I’m actually from Lagos…yeah you can say that again about the women, they are really a handful

  186. goonster says:

yeah met a few in victoria island………spent a week at le meridien. had a blast. she still calls me from time to time. her nase is christy or something. men she was something else. think i ll come soon. when is it summer in your country?

  187. goonster says:

a lot of fun actually. a live band plays on friday nights and these girls with skanty clothes just dance to the rythm. gosh just thinking about them is making me wanna take the next flight back there.

  188. goonster says:

good so its a deal right? maybe you ll help me locate lara james. she was a student in the local university back then. hot girl, smoking body. goddamn i cant wait to visit again.

  189. bondex says:

university of lagos?..might not be her real name….remember i live in abuja..will need enough time to plan ahead.

  190. goonster says:

but that’s what she had on her tag….she was a waitress. i called her a couple of times but lost her number. i just hope i run into her again. man, she’s a hell of a babe.

  191. goonster says:

News from @M_Kubacki that Arsenal have taken 17-year-old Lokomotivi Tbilisi defender Nika Chanturia on two week trial

  199. Adam says:

Not bad. Warm night here. Just having some toast before getting stuck into a final edit on an article. Then, push the send button and it’s out of my life. How are you? Will you watch the Arsenal game today?

  200. rico says:

Hope it all goes well – yes I’m fine thanks. Hoping to be home in time to watch the game, have to go visiting in-laws today but should be back by 5pm, 5.15ko isn’t it?

  201. Adam says:

I have a couple of friends in the Olympics closing ceremony although the idea of sitting through 3 hours of it does not appeal. Good luck with the in-laws.

  202. rico says:

    Thanks Adam..

3 hours of the OG’s – it will be worth watching I am sure, I’ll be tuned in 🙂

    Very posh 😉

  203. Adam says:

One of my friends is a Brazilian samba dancer who will be giving it plenty right at the end during the hand-over ceremony. Watch out for him dressed in bright red. Blimey, that guy can move. What’s posh?

  204. Adam says:

Who knows? He said he would be.
Ah yes, I am sitting working at it now while chatting with you on the iPad. What a multi-tasker I am. 🙂

  205. rico says:

And there was me thinking men couldn’t multi-task Adam, you are a rare breed …. 😉

Morning bondex, nothing new as far as I can find out…
