Some things in sport are meant to be…..

Morning all.

Arsene Wenger has been talking about whether Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future is in midfield:

I think so. He can lose balls but defensively he is strong in the challenge when he wants to switch on. He has that kind of robustness to deal with body-to-body which is very important in the Premier League.

When I didn’t play Ozil I had to find a combination with Alex in central midfield. He is offensive and you can see as well he is a guy who can get out of pressure. He has a dribbling skill and acceleration that can get you out of pressure.

He can penetrate, and in midfield that is important. I felt as well sometimes on the flank he is out of the game but in the middle he is more focused. He needs to be involved in the game.

It’s vital he signs a new deal’ said Wenger, ‘It would be a big damage for us to lose this kind of player.’

The Ox is in the same position as Ozil and Sanchez with his contract and those three are not alone. Ramsey, Gibbs, Jenkinson, Cazorla and Mertesacker can all walk away for free in 2018, that’s if they’re not sold off before then and should a new manager come in during the summer, I’d imagine a few will be.

Some things in sport are just meant to be aren’t they, like Tottenham never winning the Premier League, Arsenal finishing in the top four each season and Mercedes winning the F1. Well, that’s how it seems anyway so when Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose ended up even at the end of the Masters, there was only going to be one winner in the playoff on what would have been Seve Ballesteros 60th birthday to break his majors duck. A great weekend of sport, especially as Lewis Hamilton won in China.

There were no surprises in the football though, well, other than my second team getting thumped 6-1!

Man Utd and Everton both won so the pressure is back on us to do the same tonight, if a top four place is still the aim for this team. An away trip to Crystal Palace against an opposition we shouldn’t fear, yet I do. Big Sam got one over Conte not long ago but his team were brought back down to earth by Southampton in the following match. After the 3-0 victory over West Ham, many of the players seem to think all is rosy, a corner has been turned and we’re on the up. What a joke that is eh. Captain Theo is expected to retain the armband as Laurent Koscielny remains on the injury list and Martinez could again be between the sticks as both Ospina and Cech are ruled out.

It’s quite hard to muster up any kind of enthusiasm really but we need a win, a good win because another good performance will increase the confidence and I don’t know about you guys, but I really want us to win the FA Cup again. To have any chance of getting past City to the final, we need to be in great form. We need maximum points tonight and at The Riverside Stadium this time next week.

Have a good Monday guys.

    Afternoon Rico and All

Having gone round the houses with what
    The Board/Arsene will do next:
    Arsene said the weekend..
It would be negative to reveal….What his doing(future).

Surely if his staying it would be Positive news,as regards
    players/Team…..

Arsene then comes out with we must keep Oxo Cube.
The core of the team must be British..
He says..The future team must include,
    Wheelchair,Oxo,Gibbo and Awayday Ramsey.

Is this Arsenes way of getting The Arsenal Brexit Voters
    to remain.

    Afternoon Rico and the House.
Just a short visit on a nice sunny day down South
The U23’s are away to Reading and will shortly kick off.
    Interesting team
Huddart, Jenkinson, Bramhill, M Niles, Holding, Debuchy,Nelson, Adelaide, Sanogo, Iwobi, Willock

    Afternoon

Wenger comments could be interpeted either way. . (Nothing new there!)
The negative effect he meant would likely be on the fans’ and not his beloved players’ I would have thought.
I see our 2nd major share holder has finally spoken…he wants Wenger to have a say on who would eventually replace him, and he is not entirely to blame!!
I don’t know what to make of that!

  4. Kk says:

    Sanogo still playing!?

Wenger should call it a day just for bringing such dross to the club and actually conning us that he is the next messiah.
He should refund all sanogo’s wages and expenses from his own pocket .

  5. Kk says:

I mean the tiny totts were holding (wenger in) banners and singing arsene wenger we want you to stay.. they were playing Watford .

Thrashed them 4/0 and we lost to them at home!

Meanwhile wenger mental going from strength to strength!

  6. frednerk says:

Funny for a matchday to be this quiet.Rico.

Mate of mine who has been going on about Arsene
for the last 10 years or so seems to have got enough
Arsene out support….to finally shut -up for a while.

Not sure how everyone else feels about the game to-night,
but is anybody really looking forward to it?

I told you he is a beast???

    Good luck to Adams,
hope he can rejuvinate his coaching career.

  15. Wavy says:

Has anybody told Adams that Granada only have one food outlet left, at Charnock Richard, if memory serves me!!
Who’d have thought he would have settled for being manager of a motorway service station! And I bet they’ll end up as a Little Chef by the time he’s finished with them.
    Or:
Is this his Arsenal apprenticeship having agreed to take over from Wenger the miracle worker?
Between you and me, I really hope not. Great player, lousy manager/coach, so far his career has hardly even shown promise, so…..???

  20. Alex says:

    Hi Rico and all

    Is just embarassing this team.
There is no midfielder who can touch the ball two times.

The 35 milion man is good as Denilson .Just side way passing.

This team is suited for long balls as there is no midfielder that one can talk about as all they muster is sideways pass.

To accept our mediocrity i guess will help the pain.
To believe in this team is only to good to raise a blood pressure.

    Sad times

  21. Kel says:

Lol careful what you wish for….hahahah

Tippy tappy side to side.. bore the balls of ya and very predictable.

Well done palace do us a favour and put Wenger outta his misery…

  22. Kel says:

I have a feeling guys tonight is the night it all changes… Wenger can’t go in after this..

It’s tough to watch yes but if it means that’s it for wenger then I’m fuckin happy.

  23. Kel says:

Well I said it on the first of February. Arsenal wouldn’t make top 4… think Scott went against me, but I think it’s safe to say now it ain’t happening lol..

Cheer up guys we all want change this result will go towards that..

No top 4… hurts the share price so fuck Wenger and fuck Stan..

  24. Wavy says:

Shot of Gazidis looking on. He did not look happy. Last time I saw a ceo looking like that was Levy as the scum got turned over at home by a ‘lesser side’ (can’t remember which club,) but the manager got the bullet the next day! Has IG got the balls? I doubt it.
Wenger always says judge me in May. Why should we wait? It’s clear he’s failed! Enough said.

  25. micko says:

Gotta love the way some of the so called fair weather supporters jump on the band wagon and twist the knife in at every opportunity, it’s not like Palace are a bottom 5 side and fighting for their lives !
The last time we lost to the Eagles away in the league was 1979, Josh Kroenke was just an itch in his ole man’s under-pants back then, food for thought lol !

  26. potter says:

Gazidis looked extremely frustrated like a man that has been banging his head on a wall for some time. There was an air of resignation about him unfortunately not Wengers’

  27. Meerkat says:

It is surely the end of the road for le prof, and for most of the team.
I kept thinking, if he brings on Giroud and the Ox things will improve. They didn’t.
This bunch of players and their manager are out of touch, totally. They can’t defend, and tonight they couldn’t get a sniff of goals.
    I’m still in shock.

  28. allezkev says:

Nope, I don’t think he’s gone, not yet, it has to get worse I’m afraid…

He is a 67 year old man, desperately hanging on to the only thing that makes his life seem worthwhile, to himself.
He’s lost his wife and daughter, all he has left is Arsenal and they’ll have to carry him out kicking and screaming before he goes.
It’s getting quite distasteful now, he really cannot justify staying on any longer, but he will and he’ll sign that two year contract…

  29. gnarleygeorge9 says:

The Arsenal has turned in to a 3 ringed circus, Wenger & those two other arseholes Gazidis & Stan 🙂

  30. Meerkat says:

For the first time, during his post match interview, I felt that he knew.
It must be terrible to accept something like that, after over twenty years, but heyho, he can cry all the way to the bank.
If the board and the owner can’t see the writing is on the wall, they deserve each other and the hatred of the fans.

unfortunately the real victims in this are the fans, not the overpaid players and management, not the money grabbing owner, but the real supporters. They aren’t looking at their spreadsheets to see how much they can squeeze out of the business, they are spending their hard-earned cash to watch this shambles.
    It must end now.

  31. Kel says:

GG The club is so stale m8 it has now regressed thx to wenger. so whoever comes in has a big job on his hands imo i dont see us competing for the title for few yrs tbh the club is a mess…

  32. allezkev says:

Well there ya go Kel, I’m not quite so pessimistic about the club.

    I actually think it’s in great shape…

The squad is a lot better than it’s been showing, a new manager using modern methods could get another 30/40% out of them.
The club has fantastic facilities, state of the art training ground, wonderful stadium earning a fortune.
Massive fan base with the potential to be bigger than everyone other that Man U, Real & Barca.
Based in London, one of best places to live anywhere in the world.
A shed load of cash to spend.

Wenger has put it all in place, he simply cannot make the most of it.

There’s plenty of top managers out there who would kill for the Arsenal job.

Get the right guy in charge and we could really take off…

That is what’s so frustrating, we could be bigger than Bayern if the club only showed sufficient ambition…

  33. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    kel

I’ll liven the place up in September. I’ll offer to do my Mr Banjo rendition @ half time for the fans to cheer them up. It seemed to work wonders during the Charles Charlie Charles era

  34. Kk says:

I really believe wenger would go..can’t get any worse for him surely. .
Fat Sams stated how easy it was to turn over the arsrnal …
center backs exposed and non existent midfield
Side way passing and toothless attack..
    Ducking out of challenges..
    Loosing every 50 50 ball..
Not a single shot on target 2nd half.
    Ozil..
Taking out elneny and keeping the awful xhka

Theo captin of the day saying from the kick off they knew the palace players wanted more!!
    Oh the irony!

  35. Kel says:

All sounds good kev.. but the club lack ambition so its all rather pointless. A new manager would help for sure though.

  36. Meerkat says:

Last week I thought they might just go on a run like they did last year, and snatch that fourth place. What a fool I was, they are doomed and the longer Arsene stays the worse it’s going to get. This season’s showing should cause the owner to sort things out, but Kroenke is not a normal owner so it will be more of the same next time.

Whoever takes over when AW has run us into the ground will get a poison chalice because unless he gets a new board and a big budget (which he won’t) he will be blamed for the mess that’s going to run and run for many years.

Even Jamie Carragher was frustrated with them tonight, and seeing the things he was pointing out, made my toes curl.
He hit the nail on the head though, when he said ‘this is Arsenal, and has been for a few years now’, it isn’t a hiccup. They have been accepting 4th spot trophy every year, instead of pushing on to actually win the league. The fans are being robbed blind by paying Emirate prices for crap players wages and Stan’s profits.

  37. allezkev says:

Kel, a club that lacked ambition wouldn’t have spent a fortune on Hale End, we’ll never really know about the clubs ambition for sure, till Wenger goes and we have a new manager/set-up.

  38. Kel says:

Sorry kev…for me they’ve failed in their ambition the last decade.. yes they invested in the Emirates etc.. they built a brand to fleece the fans imo…

  39. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    kev

I agree, in reality the Club has never been as strong, off the field that is, but that can be eroded away in the future if the football department doesn’t get its shit together. The football department is all about Arsene Wenger & his ego. And the bloke @ the top Stan Krankey allows Arsene Wenger to get away with it.

In the immediate future, the fans need to keep the pressure on le Gaffer until he is gone. The best scenario IMO would be that all three Wenger, Gazidis & Stan were ousted.

Fresh faces, fresh ideas, might take time, but if done properly it won’t be long b4 The Arsenal are back.

But make no mistake about it, Arsene Wenger is gone!!!!

  40. Herb's Army says:

The bottom line is that result and performance last night is on all those weak sycophantic Wengerites who are terrified of change. They are the reason Arsenal are in the mess they’re in, idiotic fans who put everyone else down and abused them for wanting Wenger out.
Wengerites deserve this pain and misery ten-fold, those of us who saw through Wenger a long time ago deserve better than this shameless thieving charlatan.

  41. frednerk says:

    Morning Rico and All

Rico get your crash helmet on.

Remember Stuart Robson getting slagged off on here
many times, when the word Tactics and Arsene just never
    added up.
Amazing he just reminded everyone what he said 2008.

  42. Adam says:

Morning Rico, Fred and all. Any day now and the ST renewal demands will come through the door.
Just what is the ‘product’, as I am sure the marketing men think about it, that they are offering? More of this shitfest? More Wenger and his mental strength schtick? More embarrassment and humiliation?
Is Wenger’s pathetic “I know, but I’m not telling” stance in some way linked to creaming the money in before announcing that he is staying?
Lots of questions but, until I know if he is staying, I cannot see any way that I could renew if he stays and I am sure there are thousands of others who are asking the same questions.
Many more questions than answers right now, but things are coming to a head for sure.
I still think he will go but it seems I am in a minority.

  43. rico says:

    Morning Adam.

As said yesterday, isn’t it the board who are delaying the announcement rather than Wenger? Perhaps nothing is certain yet re his future..

  44. frednerk says:

    Morning Adam
I’m with you.. I think Arsenes off.
The delay must be season ticket sales,
    Arsene looks dead.
    Its getting hard to watch.
All them years taking the piss out of the spuds,
I never thought for one minute,
I would know how it feels.

  45. rico says:

Yet it’s so simple really Adam. Rip up the contract if there is one and tell him he’s off…

I’ll be glad when we know, either way..

  46. Kel says:

Morning.. is he staying is he going…. right now the club is a mess from top to bottom he has to go to restore confidence.

Yes financially they’re sound thx to Wenger but mostly the fan’s who pump their money into the club.

But the time has come now nowhere to hide anymore arsene this team needs rebuilt but most certainly not by you.

  47. Lee says:

Surely if Wenger is off it would be beneficial to announce it now? Everyone would get behind Wenger and the team until the end of the season….potentially getting top four an CL football for the next manager?

I read somewhere Arsenal have not won an away game from a half time deficit in 5yrs!!! Where’s the fucking mental strength in that stat?

Palace fans singing sign the contract Wenger!! We are a complete laughing stock, cheers for that Arsenal.

    Please just fuck off Wenger!

  48. Lee says:

Let this gem sink in …. Theo Walcott has played more games for Arsenal than Thierry Henry!!!

That is a sackable offence right there!

  49. potter says:

Adam I agree , however I would like to formally inform The Arsenal that it is just “”Inconvenient “” for me to sign my cheque at the moment.

  50. allezkev says:

Morning All, it’s a fabulous sunny day out here in Essex…

The impasse at the club, regarding Wengers contract, must surely be because of the schism caused between Wenger and those Board members who want him to leave, but cannot yet convince a Kroenke to pull the plug on his French Billy Bean. So it must get worse before it gets better imo…

Middlesbrough next Monday and another shitfest vs a relegated threatened club who cannot score goals. Lose that and maybe, just maybe it’ll push Kroenke over the edge. Because nothing will change until Kroenke changes…

I’ve got a ticket for the semi-final but I’m not looking forward to it…

Morning Rico, I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t bother with a post today. Just get out in the garden and get some sunshine.

  51. potter says:

Fred , in all fairness it’s both. Wenger for having no direction and the board for not making sure that he has.

  52. Lee says:

‘If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs….. then you probably haven’t grasped the seriousness of the situation’

    Remind you of anyone?

  53. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Jamie Carragher played for England yes? The fella is giving an opinion about The Arsenal, yet he was apart of some England World Cup efforts where the players were home b4 the postcards. He should think b4 he points the finger, the fool?

  54. rico says:

Morning Kev. I’ve already done it, although very tempting not to bother.

After all, it seems no-one at Arsenal can…

    Sure does Lee..

    New post up now.

  55. Wath says:

Morning you lot, great article which I thought is rather poignant to most….!

    I am done with football.

My relationship with the game is dead.

My relationship with Arsenal is strained.

My relationship with Arsene Wenger is over.

I have tried to remain loyal. Tried to work through the problems. Tried look on the bright side, find that silver lining. I have naively thoughts things would improve. Clung on to great memories of the past. Even some good memories of the recent past. But like many a relationship, it is time to call it a day.

I am drained, emotionally and physically. There are only so many beatings I can take. Only so many times I can get knocked down and get back up again. I need to walk away. Get a fresh start. Learn to love again.

Football is something I fell out of a love with a long time ago. The way fans are treated by all clubs, no matter if you are Chelsea at the top of the league or Leyton Orient at the bottom is nothing short of a disgrace.

Clubs simply do not care about regular match day fans. And the authorities, the Premier League, the FA, the Football League, care even less than the clubs.

The commercialisation of the game, the globalisation of it, has ruined it for match day fans. The clubs concern is no longer the well being of the thousands that go through the gates every season, and have done for years, but their extended reach. For a decade now they have cared about income, cared about attracting more foreign fans, than cared about their most loyal fans who would stay with the club no matter the situation.

Fans who go week in week out are trodden on by all clubs as they chase the dollar, yen or riyal. Clubs would rather 60,000 different people turn up to each game, all spending £100 a ticket, going into the club shop, spending many more hundreds, than 45,000 season ticket holders, who go in and out, have a grumble, don’t spend much at the ground, but are happy(ish) to pay their £1,000+.

Ticket prices are not just an Arsenal thing, but a football things. Leyton Orient, the leagues lowers club, currently charge £20 – £39. How is that right? And they are a club that are currently being ruined.

The FA have a fit and proper person test. I would love to know what it actually is as the likes of Leyton Orient have been badly let down. As the clubs chase foreign investment, it seems both them and the football league do not care how shady this money is, or even if it exists. Coventry, Leeds, Leyton Orient, Portsmouth, and more. The list of clubs with dodgy owners gets longer every year.

Add in the TV companies, changing times not matter if fans can get too / from games all for prime time viewing. Add rail companies and airlines hiking up prices as soon as a game is announced. It all leads to a feeling of not being loved. Everyone is out to make their buck. Their slice of the pie and we as fans are the mugs. We are the ones no one cares about. Yet we are the ones who travel up and down the country week in, week out.

I have not enjoyed football for some time, but what dragged me back was my love for Arsenal. And now that is dwindling.

I moved house early in the year and it has meant that I have been unable to go to as many games in 2017 as I would have liked. It is damning that I have not actually missed football.

2 weekends ago, when Arsenal were playing Manchester City, I did not even watch the game on TV. I was busy in my garden, in the sunshine, painting a fence. I only realised the game was in with about 10 minutes to go.

The fact is, when I have not been at football, I have not missed it.

A few years ago, I made an attempt to go to every Premier League game. I ended up one short. I planed holidays around football. I sacked off family gatherings for Arsenal. My life was about football.

The year before that, I was up at 2am in Thailand watching games. I would not dream of missing a game, whether it be at the ground or on TV. I would get itchy if I was close to missing a game. And if I did miss one, I would spend the entire time refreshing my phone, annoyed that I had missed a game.

But things have now changed. I no longer care. Arsenal do not care about me. Why should I care about Arsenal? I am merely a number. A body through the door. I am not even a bum on the seat, as if I do not take my seat, the club has already got my money.

Arsenal Football Club is rotten from the top down. We have owners and a board who seem happy sitting round their oak table smoking cigars unable to actually make a decision. We have management, coaches, players, all of whom see the club as an employee. A way to become millionaires. They do not care.

We have fans who I can not relate too. And it is not just the selfie holding foreign fans who I can not stand. It is the majority of our fan base. What ever happened to going to a game, having a pint, enjoying time with your mates.

Every is now vying for their bit of attention. Waving to the camera. Trying to be front and centre. Everyone wants their 5 minutes of fame, even if it embarrasses themselves, their family, their children, their club, their fellow Arsenal fans in doing so. Everyone wants to be a celebrity.

No club has fans like Arsenal Football Club. More interested self publicity. Making a quick buck off the club whilst slagging it off. It is all just embarrassing. This isn’t Arsenal.

I always thought I was a fan who stuck with the side through thick and thin. Would stay to the end, no matter what the result. The first time I walked out on a game was the 3-0 defeat to Everton in 2014. I went as the 3rd went on. I have now walked out of the last 3 away games.

At Liverpool it was a couple of minutes before the end. I could not bare listen to the Scousers sing You’ll Never Walk Alone. WBA I went at 3-1. I was surprised when I got back to the pub that a couple of my mates were already in there.

Last night I went at 2-0. I just did not want to be there anymore. I wanted to go home. It was a Monday night. I had a 90 minute train journey to look forward too. I just wanted out of their, I did not like the toxic atmosphere. The toxic performance.

I do feel like a fraud. I should be there through thick and thin. But if the players and management do not care for Arsenal, why should I care for them?

Then we have Arsene Wenger himself.

Those that know me will know I have wanted him going for a few years now. Whilst I will not shout abuse, wish death on him, or undermine his legendary status at the club, I have quietly wanted him gone whilst keeping an unbiased view point with no agenda. I have attempted to be level headed.

The man has now lost it. His selfishness shows no bounds. He sits smugly stating he “knows the future” when it comes to his contract, yet will not tell anyone. He thinks he can do no wrong. He is turning into a Scouser, it is never his fault.

His arrogance, his selfishness, his stubbornness, it is all becoming sickening. It is getting to a point where he is ruining his own legacy.

Whilst remove Wenger from his position as manager will not change the club overnight, he is one of many rotten apples, it would be a start. He should have resigned last night.

He claims to have dignity, class, but if he did he would fall on his own sword. Admit things are not good enough, and leave now. Sadly, he has £8million reasons not to leave. Why would you throw away £16million+ over the next two years if there is no pressure from above to do so?

Wenger has always presented himself as a gentleman of the game. He is now an old man who screams at his long suffering wife to get him a cup of tea, despite him being right next to the kettle.

It is never nice seeing a grand parent slowly losing their marbles, becoming a horrible person, as you have to love them no matter what. As their mind go’s downhill land they become more abusive, you still have to love them. But you will just start visiting them less. Stay for shorter periods. You turn up out of duty rather than love. That is what it feels like with Arsenal and Arsene Wenger.

There are only 2 games left this season I have interest in. Spurs away and the FA Cup semi final. I doubt I will go to any other game this season.

The sad thing is in a month it will be season ticket renewal time. I will renew my home season ticket. I will renew my away season ticker. And I will go again. I will return home, to a one sided relationship where I know I am going to get abused. But there is still love in the heart. And it is that love that will keep me going through the bad times.

I am, like many others like me, a mug.
