Smith Rowe commits as Arsenal snap up Bayern defender.

Morning all.

Seriously, was there really a doubt ESR would extend his career at Arsenal? Aston Villa might have tried their luck but their offer for our new number 10, but their offer was insulting. Sancho has just been signed by Utd for around £80m. Just saying.

This kid, and he is still a kid in footballing terms has everything in his game to be a world class player in time and along with Folarin Balogun, Kieran Tierney, Arthur Okonkwo and Bukayo Saka, he’s Arsenal’s for a long time. And yes, I believe him when he said that signing a new contract was an easy thing to do and that’s what he’s been waiting and wanting to do.

Pre Christmas 2020, he, and others no doubt, was probably wondering why he couldn’t get into an Arsenal team which was seriously underperforming. As were many of us no doubt. Under performing players were, well, under performing. So his introduction on Boxing Day for whatever reason and a turnaround in results, can’t be ignored. The stats read Arsenal had a 58 per cent win rate in fixtures he started compared to 41 per cent in games he didn’t.

Listening to him, he’s humble, he knows he needs to improve, he knows he’s expected to score more goals but I’m 100% sure he’ll do both. I love players like him, I really do. Arsenal through and through. As was Dennis Bergkamp after he’d made the move to north London and if ESR can have a similar impact on the teams performance as the great Dutchman did, we’re in for many footballing moments to enjoy.

I know I’ve said this before but it’s crucial for Arsenal to keep hold of the cream from the academy and add more youth, energy along with a bit of experience too. I still believe there’s a place for Nelson, Willock and AMN in the squad. I think AMN could cement his place at right back if he got his act together, Willock has proved he can score goals whilst on loan and Nelson is or at least could be if given the chance, a threat to Pepe’s place in the side. Willian, AMN, Willock or Nelson from the bench? An easy decision in my opinion but it’s always easy from the sofa. Just want to see Nelson given an opportunity that’s all.

With ESR done and dusted, next up we need to hear Kido Taylor-Hart has followed suit. Rumour has it he has. He’s another youngster with a lot of energy and pace. He’ll be 19 years old in September, old enough to be given a first team squad number and hopefully, minutes from the bench at least. Certainly in the domestic cups. This is where not being in the Europa Cup is a hindrance because I’m sure, if he stays, he’d have been one of a few Mikel Arteta would have called on for the group fixtures.

Who knows though, ESR was called up suddenly, so this season it might be somebody else’s turn.

Arsenal have been busy this summer and not just the men’s side of the club. Yesterday Simone Boye Sorensen joined us from FC Bayern Munich, the third women’s signing during this transfer window. Nikkita Paris, currently on international duty with GB moved from Lyon to Arsenal earlier this month along with Mana Iwabuchi who made the switch to north London from Aston Villa.

Exciting and more successful times ahead for all Arsenal teams I hope.

See you in the comments.

    The kid is future world
    Class footballer imo
Fantastic to get things locked down and yes, Villa were having a launch.
    Morning all

  2. Mig says:

He was the best that came out of last season no doubt and the determined Tierney who we didn’t see season before.

    Good morning Rico and all.

Good post Rico. I don’t know about the post title but it keeps reminding me of clicking 😂😂😂😂

I hope you haven’t caught some bug. 😏😏

It seems that Maddison is closer than we think

I never thought that he would leave but it’s a relief that he has signed because it takes away the speculation.
As much as the fan base like to see nice new shiney players the club needs to keep hold of the ones that have been bought up in the club.
Hale End is a production line and it needs to be clever about the players it develops .The more home grown the better . Some will make it to the top and others will not and if they are good enough to play elsewhere then we have to maximise on them .
We can’t keep them all and we have to gamble that there will be more Gnabrys and Martyinezs’ but bear in mind that for every one of those there are many that leave for a small fee that disappear to non league or lower divisions.
Currently we have a group on the edge , Willock ,Amn , Nelson they need time they need experience , two of them were away getting it last year with varying degrees of success . Willock made headlines on Tyneside and Amn played and got relegated but got good reports . Nelson decided to stay and got nowhere .
I think that sadly Nelson will go , refusing to take Arteta’s advice to take a loan will not have been forgotten and his situation is a lesson to the next crop coming through.
I expect to see a rash of youngsters going out as the window progresses . It worked for Chelsea but the difference is that we have been training them from an early age and are no longer farming Europe and beyond to find them.

Successful clubs knows when to cut their loss and move on. We did some in the winter, we need to do now, we have had enough of William, get rid of him and give nelson and martinelli time to develop. Leno is decent but if the coaches feels that he is not doing enough, get rid of him too. Chelsea, City, Liverpool, and Madrid does that recently. Give willock, Nketiah, Nelson, Azeez, and Moller long contracts and loan them out to clubs where they will develop withing a year or two. They can save the clubs millions or give the clubs millions. It will also the the younger ones hope that they can make it in the club. If we are getting Abraham, I’ll pefer without option to buy. However, getting him should translate to loaning out Nketiah and Balogun.

  6. asiru raheem says:

Arsenal also need a reliable back-up keeper , whether we buy ramsdale or not. It is obvious neither will want to be back-up. After sorting that, what we need is goals, goals, and goals.

Morning Devil, thanks. Two in a summer isn’t bad. Lol

One blog, who shall remain nameless, had something like ten click bait headlines on NN yesterday. Talk about making an honest living. 😜

  8. rico says:

Again Potter, were on a similar page in relation to our homegrown players. I’m sure I read that there’s been number crunching in relation to loans which could affect the club.

    Morning Rico and All
Glad to see ESR sign, now hopefully he gets a fair amount of game time.

noticed a story were Pablo Mari had a go at Lokonga during his first training season
( training exercise kick to kick but with only one touch but Lokonga Touched it twice )
Maybe Pablo should make sure he in our top 3 players every week before he tries to tell some one else what to do, Most players make mistakes during there first training season.
maybe pablo scared of Lokonga taking his position

  10. allezkev says:

Morning Rico and Gooners, yes I think that Okonkwo will stay, at least up till January, then they might send him on loan? It’s a shame for him that the Florida Cup games were cancelled as he needed those games but Leno will be back soon Rico and if we buy another goalkeeper his opportunities will be very slim.

  11. allezkev says:

Just Arsenal News, they post quite a few Rico as do Football.London and the Daily Cannon, it must be quite a lucrative business, so Rico when are we going to get a 2nd or 3rd daily post, if I was your agent I’d get you to do a transfer daily in the morning, then one in the early afternoon and in the evening a woman’s and youth post, what do you think mate, better get going on the old tippy tappy. 😄

  12. ScottfromOz says:

    They play different positions mate.
There’s nothing wrong with training with intent and demanding perfection. They’ll never achieve it, but at least strive for it.

  13. rico says:

Morning Geoff, Mari was probably only trying to help. As an older and more experienced player, I think it’s good to see.

Morning Kev, with a bit of luck, Arsenal will secure one or two more friendly fixtures for next week so he’ll still get a couple of games. I eat the club are trying to organise something. I’m still unconvinced Leno is staying.

  14. rico says:

I can barely muster up enough enthusiasm for one Kev. These guys must be all over social media from the moment they open their eyes. I guess it’s their job if it pays well.

I get about a fiver a month. Lol

  15. Aussie Geoff says:

I still say you should give a new player a chance to settle in not have a go at him on his first training session

  16. Aussie Geoff says:

Rico maybe you should get Kev to manager only making a fiver a month, you are properly paying at least 20 a month on the electric bill just to use the computer hahaha

  17. allezkev says:

I don’t know how they do it Rico, but most of it is recycled from other sources and isn’t worth reading, but if fans are going to click on it then they’re going to provide it.

I honestly don’t know how you do it Rico, I can barely manage 3 or 4 a year, if that.

  18. rico says:

    I couldn’t afford Kev’s rates Geoff.

Agree Kev but I can’t believe people still fall for a great headline. You wouldn’t believe the difference in hit numbers with a signing headline.

    I don’t know either really. 😂

  19. andrewh1313 says:

    Afternoon rico, House.

Saka, Tierney and ESR, 3 favourite players on long term deals, looking forward to season already! Hope it lasts through to June😃😃

  20. Cicero says:

Lacazette will not be offered a new contract and the club are inviting offers of around £15 million for him. The money will go towards buying Tammy Abraham from Chelsea.

  21. Devilgunner says:

    Good morning everyone

I still cannot fathom out how come we had Gnabry….went for peanuts. We had Malen….he went for peanuts. We have Nelson…..not being given a chance and he will go.

And we have Willian (high wages) and a 72M Pepe.

I believe that the above three would have been much better technically and tactically than the other two.

Its like a Jeweler who finds uncut diamonds and sells them to buy Gold or Silver in the hope of their price going up. All he needs to do is polish or learn how to polish the uncut diamonds.

  22. ScottfromOz says:

Devil, Gnabry wanted to go-what could the club do?
Malen-I vaguely remember him at the club, but don’t recall any great outcry when he left.
Nelson, opinion is probably divided on him.
I’m with you that I’d love to see him stay and get his chance/

  23. Bradley says:

    Hi all,
Agreed Devil, we are so bad at transfers. Liverpool will sell their biggest rubbish at unbelievable prices (Brewster prime example) and we can barely get peanuts for our decent talent let alone international players.
Lately, we pay double the price compared to if other teams were interested, is it because the media keep saying we can afford anyone or that we look desperate?
I can only think of Abameyang and Sanchez (mostly a Barca reject by Pep) that came in with a reputation and performed for us, so why bother wasting money on past Laurrels at exorbitant wages.
However, I think Martial might be available as I doubt he will get much game time at United. I’ve always like that guy, silky on the ball and makes space out of no where.

  24. rico says:

    Morning all.

Devil. Totally agree with you. Gnabry was a crazy decision imo. I don’t blame him for wanting to leave because I would too if my manager thought so little of me, he’d send me to a club managed by Pulis. Malen, never given a chance. As you say, next up will probably be Nelson. And yet the club is meant to be broke financially.

The past in unchangeable but what really annoys me is the club doesn’t learn from its mistakes regardless of who is the manager or who is on the board.

  25. rico says:

Hi Brad, I think a lot of blame sits firmly at the feet of Arsene Wenger. His transfer dealings were as bad as decisions to give out huge contracts to players who in the main, we wouldn’t have missed imo.

Allowing contracts to run down back then cost us too because we lost so much money allowing too many players to reach their final year. If they weren’t prepared to commit to the club before then, then clearly their heart wasn’t with Arsenal.

Ramsey is the perfect example and I’m not blaming him but, if he wasn’t prepared to sign the contract when Wenger was still manager, and again when Emery took over, that reported £50m offer which came in for him should have been snapped up. The same with Alexis when City reported to offer £60m the summer before the most awful swap deal was sanctioned.

  26. potter says:

Don’t really want anymore United or Chelsea cast offs either . Abrahams price goes up everytime you turn round , started at 20 then 25 and now some say 40 million.
    It’s madness time to stop.
