Morning all.
Club’s chairman, Sir Chips Keswick:
When I was appointed chairman last summer, there was good reason to believe that the hard work which has been put in, by many people across the Club, over recent years had created the momentum for a successful season in every aspect of our activities.
Thus far that optimism has been well-founded. We believe we are in a strong position to take the Club forward both in the short-term and beyond and to deliver future on-field success.
Why has he said all that?
Because turnover at the club has increased to £136m from £106.1m in 2012, while match-day income was also up, from £37.8m to £45m.
Broadcasting revenue has risen to £52m from £40.1m and there was also an impressive increase in revenue from commercial and retail activities, which has gone from £27.7m to £38.4m.
Operating profits from football also rise to £22.2m, up from £4.4m the during the previous financial year, although profits from transfer dealings fell to £6.1m from a previous figure of £42.5m. (That will be Ozil)
Overall, the group loss before tax was £2.2m compared to a profit of £17.8m in 2012.
So, the good old finances are well and truly in check, or should I say cheque….
But then we have known that for a while. I read yesterday that by the time the summer arrives, we’ll have around £180 million just sitting around waiting to be spent. So if Sir Chips is true to his word and he wants success on the pitch, he knows what he needs to be doing!
Right, onto tomorrow and Arsene Wenger wants the home fans to sign loud, proud and give the players all the support they possibly can:
I sense a huge feeling from the crowd to help the team but we have to strengthen that belief with our performance.
Very true Arsene and it’s down to you to instil a little bit more belief and fire into the players minds and get them playing with more hunger, drive and passion to win. Get any nerves out of the players and of course, let’s see a bit of width and pace up front, the kind of football which will get the fans on their feet and applauding.
The crowd will no doubt be behind us [against Liverpool] but let’s put the vibes out that we have a go and they will be behind us. They were hugely behind us on Wednesday night, [but] they were frustrated at the end of the game like we were.
If they were not behind the team that would be a surprise. We are one point off the lead, we play in the Champions League and we play in the FA Cup. If, on top of that, we have not got a crowd behind us that would be absolutely unbelievable.
The fans are always behind the players, but the frustration is directed at the style in which we play and of course the lack of activity in both recent transfer windows to make us a stronger squad but regardless, those we have could be a lot better…
We are professional football players. That means we have to cope with every single thing [from] the crowd. That is the job. After that if you can help [get the fans] behind the team that makes us even stronger. But we cannot expect too much. Let’s have the attitude to have the crowd behind us. They were behind us at Liverpool, when we were 4-0 down.
I’m not sure what he means in that last paragraph but as said earlier, if he sends out the right team and gets us playing the right way, every single fan will be concentrating on watching the game and cheering the boys on from start to finish because what goes on off the pitch is not their fault.
Tomorrow is a chance to rectify all that went wrong this time last week.
I hope Arsene Wenger get’s it right…..
That’s it for another day…..
Morning Rico, the finances sure seem healthy, bet Stan is smiling just like Sir Chips. I hope the boys are going to come quick off the blocks tomorrow. I for one wouldn’t mind if we go down fighting. I hope Arsene ups his tactics too and have the guts to take a lazy player off if need be.
Wenger is talking out of his arsehole,he very well knows this team is a spent force been running on empty since the Spurs game.Too small a squad and to many injuries is like poison to a football Club. But he only have himself to blame 120 mil in the bank and he cant even settle a DECENT loan deal not a 31 year-old carthorse.Wenger will forever be thinking about fiscal soundnees before winning trophies but when he eventually leaves the NeXT manager will be guarenteed a shitload of Cash.
Morning lule, good to see you back…
Finances have been in a good place for a while. Just need Sir Chips and Stank Kroenke to make sure some of it gets spent this summer. Bit late I know but….
Need a quick start tomorrow, do to them what they did to us…
If he’s to sign a new 3 year deal Danish, someone at the club needs to take control and get deals done, leave AW out of it other than to say which players he wants…
if it’s true Mr Dein’s job was taken by Gazidis then am afraid for arsenal to be the force it once was, either Arsene or Gazidis has to go. We need someone to really take charge. My preference would be to see Stan go and the ownership to go plural once more.
Rico is right.
Someone up top needs to grow a pair and take responsibility, as well as power, away from Wenger.
Tell him his job is to win titles….that is all.
Usmanov for me lule….
the trouble with sole ownership Rico is that if someone’s priorities go south, it can take the whole club down. I believe there should be checks and balances, which pluralism provides. Mr Usmanov sure looks ambitious but what happens when he leaves the reigns to his son/daughter? will they be equally ambitious? if possible, I’d go for 51% fan ownership.
Sorry lule, internet connection crashed…
I’m sure his family would be as ambitious, they are at The Ems every week apparently…
I knew I’d be right one day Scott 😉
The odds were on your side 🙂
Rico, As a top bloke you get it right more often than not 😀
Hi rico, morning all.
Your quote:
“we’ll have around £180 million just sitting around waiting to be spent” worries me.
Instead of an injured player returning “its like a new signing, we don’t need to spend”
it will soon be
“yes we have the resources now … but Financial Fair Play means we have to be prudent….”
That will not happen fan’s don’t have enough money now that the share price has been rocketed. Once Fiszmann , PHW et al decided to cash in the idea of a board of differing opinions went out of the window which is why Usmanov has been blocked at 30% and they do not want his input. Stan wants free reign and his ideals do not see trophy hunting as a requirement and his policy of keeping the “customer ” coming in whilst making as much cash as he can will remain until Wenger goes and the next man in fails , demands cash, gets fired and the process repeats itself a few times the club loses money heavily the gate receipts drop and his son decides to creep off back to the states. Only at that point will the fans have a chance to regain their club, if they can remember where it is.
🙂 Scott..
Oi Oi Wath 😉
Hi Ah,
If we have generated the money and not reporting losses, then surely we are free to spend as much as we as we want?
Rico, we must be careful….FFP and all 🙂
suffice to say the ownership at the emirates is messed up. let’s just hope come tomorrow, flamini turns up with real leadership performance. I really wonder why Arsene signed Podolski!
hey Scott, doesn’t the FFP only penalize one if the finances go south for more than three consecutive seasons? sounds like the guy in charge of transfers at the emirates can afford to let his guard down a bit. if only to give arsenal a chance at silverware.
Lule, that comment was very much a tongue in cheek one, mate 🙂
🙂 Scott, not sure it applies to us.. lol
lule, we have to spend before worrying about FFP… 😉
my bad, I missed that one!
You’ll get used to the irony on here lule, there are some sarcastic and cynical old toads on HH..
Talking of which, where’s Adam? 😉
exactly Rico. coz we might spend till the bank statement goes beyond zero then come May when the books are scrutinized, trophy winnings tip the scales…something like that.
mornig all!
Trophy winning lule?? 😉
Hi Jm..
trophy winnings to mean the money that come with silverware Rico.
I’m here Rico. Thank you for that endorsement and good morning and afternoon.
Potter. Your 11.46 is a goodie.
Fabiansky tomorrow …
Tom Finney RIP
Afternoon Adam 😛
He was pretty good Jm…. back in the day…
lule, one day soon hopefully….
Sunderland 1-0 against Southampton…
rico – “surely we are free to spend as much as we want?”
Now, if ‘we’ meant us, we could have a lovely debate and I’m sure we would come up with a few names 😉
(as we did constantly every day in January!)
But AW see’s it slightly differently.
predictions for tomorrow team?
Jenkinson ?
Arteta subs
Giroud subs
Rosicky subs….
🙂 Ah, yes, old Ebenezer is the stumbling block….
JM, anyone’s guess with Arsene…
Off for an hour now, laters….
BM 2-0 up at 25 minutes…
Good read Rico,
I am not a financial expert but winning trophies does not guarantee increase in profit…
It might increase revenue but the initial outlay always exceeds the return…
From a purely financial perspective we can compare the breakdowns in revenue earned from successfully winning each competition i.e EPL and CL
By winning the Premier League a club would net £9.7m in prize money. The club would have also received £8.9m for being in the league, £340,000 or £250,000 for each live Sky game of which there are 38 (dependent on timing and whether pay-per-view game) and overseas TV, sponsorship and licensing money equating to around £4.02m. So in total the Premier League champions would gain in the region of £34m.
Any team successfully getting through the group stages and knockout matches to reach the Champions League final and then go on to win the competition would have earned a colossal prize fund of 40m Euros including television revenues. If gate receipts and sponsorship are incorporated then that figure rises to approximately 100m Euros or £78m. This amount is far greater than that of the Premier League. We must also bear in mind that a win in Europe may have knock on effects and bring in money indirectly through tourism or merchandise sales.
In my view the downside to the potential output from the Havard analyst IG has employed will say ‘winging’ it to the quarter final or 2nd round is far better with AW in charge than a more ambitious manager who may have similar wants as the fans.
When City won the title they took in only £5M more than we did when we finished 4th…
If you add the gate receipts to the qualifying round then we break even with a team finishing first…
To me I have accepted that the board are willing to ‘wing’ it to win the league/trophy… but it is not their aim.
If anyone missed Balos’ goal…
Jeez, what is happening… no yellow card yet for Frimpong with nearly 45 minutes played?lol
finances aside, let’s hope whoever is picked to play tomorrow, deservedly earn their pay. no more with the pedestrian display they showed at anfield. a professional ought not to be reminded to give his all for 95mins…
‘A professional ought not to be reminded to give his all for 95mins…’- Very true;that is all we can ask for Lule…
Bellerin and Park on bench for Watford…
Afternoon all..
Thanks Ts…
I thing winning trophies solves everything. Attracts better players, brings in revenue and most importantly, they are the icing on the cake for the fans..
And without the fans, Arsenal would have nothing…. Or certainly very little because they are the ones who pay hideous prices season after season on tickets, merchandise etc etc….
😆 re Frimpong Ts…
hiya Rico…
interesting how Manuel is playing Milner on the lhs instead of Navas…
Same tactics but different individuals to execute the plan…
Man city have only 1 passenger too…
Not sure winning trophies does across the board but it will do for us…
BVB win lots but can’t compete with FC Munchen…
hope the game between city and chelsea earn both teams an extra game in form of a replay.
Draxler still not back…
B04 vs S04
Hi Ts, not watching the game tonight, catching up on the sky planner…
Have a favour to ask… I might have to miss the game tomorrow afternoon and wondered if you would write a few words on the game?
And a few red cards lule 😉
It’s different for Dortmund, they always come second, better than fourth 😉
bayern played today, 24hrs earlier than arsenal. they thumped someone (freiburg) by four goals with a clean sheet. hope Arsene are paying attention. the notion of ‘let’s just out there and play our game’ wont do at the knockout stage.
now that would be an added advantage Rico esp to their key players.
Exactly lule, we can but hope eh….
Moreeno really is a nasty, nauseating little gnome, isn’t he?
Unusually I really hope citeh paste Chelsea and the knobby one!
Wavy, I hope City batter the Chavs today, and if we can’t win the league, I hope City win that too….
Mourinho is an egotist and he needs his ego massaged regularly . After his diatribe against Pellegrini I just hope City stuffs it all back down his throat and he chokes on it.
City with Garcia and Toure´at the same time.
Look at this: Villa normally do this movement left to center and if the ball is lost, there is a highway to chelsea players (for instance, forke Ivanovic). But with Garcia and Touré in the midfield and covered in front of the defence, there aren’t so many space for that kind of movements.
Now look at us: with Ozill, Cazorla and wilshere (all of them usually play with the left foot) they doing normally the same mouvement left to center, but they are not covered in back. Also, why we play with so many players for doing the same things?
Well said Potter, well said!
Ask Arsene Wenger Jm, not sure he knows the answer either….
Ayt Rico re match report…
Lets hope I have power
Ayt= alright* 😉
Great to see Moreen squirming on the sideline!
Thanks Ts, I’m gutted that I’m likely to miss the game 🙁
What’s the score Lewis?
Just seen, 2-0. Good!
I’m off guys, catch up tomorrow…
Night all….
Boring Boring Chelsea… 😆 😆 😆
Lets all laugh at Jose… 😀
Night All and Mick…
Morning All…
With Bayern on the horizon, Wenger has an interesting selection job in store today?
Seems likey that Gnabry will be a starter on the right flank.
Therefore the right-back choice could be crucial…
Flamini sitting in front of the back-four, alongside Jack possibly?
Morning Kev and all..
The only position I am sure about is Fabianski in goal 😉
I think….
Good morning, do anyone has an idea how true it is that RVP agent met with AW? It was all over our sport news.
Viviano? 😉
Morning Rico…
Morning Ng, the story has made a few headlines here too but no idea if it’s true…
I know this might constitute too radical a line-up for AW, but I would go for a front-three of AOC, Sanogo & Gnabry.
Plenty to prove, no fear, plenty of youthful pace and energy. Yep, a bit short on experience granted, but if Anfield showed us anything, it is the need to pressurize their defence, keep them on the back-foot and starve their quick forwards of service…
I hope not Kev 😉
Podolski Sanogo Gnabry?
Morning guys.
Morning Scott…
ha ha Kev…
You should give Jose a ride away from the world of football…
His team had 0 shots on target and 2 attempts which went wide from outside the box…
As I was saying last week Jose’s tactical acumen is very over rated… he is pragmatic I will give him that but those ‘pickpocket’ style tactics are only suitable for guerilla warfare imo…
If and when he gets sacked by Roman where else will he go… he is running out of options faster than Graham Hunter can find xxl sized cardigans for a TV appearance…
Morning HH Familia…
Ng, allegedly VP and TV now share agents…
And to think some fans wanted him at Arsenal, Ginge.
Morning Ts..
New post up now..
Forget munich next week. This is most important match of our season.we need this win more than jose needs the lime light.i agree with arteta urging fans to get behind the team I just hope the team gives us something to get behind today.come on arsenal we need this win to shut everone up good morning h.h readers, the most knowledgeable gooners on the web in my opinion.love checking opinions on this site but dont have much time to join in ur banter. Can’t wait for game time, hopefully our boys will do us proud today
