Signing announcement today? Ten players gone! One crock, one kid, now for the real things Arsene…..

Morning all,

It’s officially summer here in the UK and the sun has got it’s hat on. At last….

Dan Crowley is set to sign for us today according to Jeorge Bird’s Arsenal Youth website, one that is very reliable. The same site lists the ten youngsters/reserves who have left us. To read more, click here.

Crowley is highly thought of and is regarded as one of the country’s outstanding prospects who will no doubt start his life at Arsenal representing the U18s.

It’s also expected that the club will soon announce the signing of Yaya Sanogo and despite the rumours about him heading back to his old club on loan, he’ll be slotting into the first team squad. That suggests to me that any thought of us signing two top strikers can go out the window. I actually don’t think we need two, as long as we sign a prolific goal scorer, I’ll be happy. But I know others will disagree.

One player who is flirting with clubs is Younes Belhanda, he’s ready to move away from France according to an interview with L’Equipe:

I want to go to England or Germany. I believe I am made for that football, both physical and technical with a lot of risks. My wish is to play in the Champions League next season, but I could sign for a club with big history.

I will not learn anything else in France. I know how we play here. I need a new mentality, new excitement.

Is there a club with a bigger history than ours?

Well, the Totts are the other club interested in him, and they have no history!!

Anyway, I wouldn’t mind Younes Belhanda signing on the Arsenal dotted line, would you?

In other news, Gervinho has confirmed that he’s set to stay for the foreseeable future, well at least until his current contract expires. However, I don’t think I’ll be alone in hoping that Arsene Wenger thinks otherwise.

Freddie Ljungberg has made a return having agreed to take on an ambassadorial role. According to the club, he will be a key figurehead in the Club’s plans for international growth.

Head of marketing, Charles Allen, said:

We are delighted that Freddie has agreed, in this ambassadorial role, to help us reach more of our passionate supporters around the globe. He is much loved by our fans and it’s great to have him back.

If only he was a few years younger….

Finally, Santi Cazorla has been voted our player of the season on the official site. He romped home with 55.7% of the votes.

Who says all players need a season to get used to this league, if you’ve got it, you’ve got it!

Well done Santi, hope you have a lot more competition for the award this coming season…..

That’s it for another day, have a great day….

  1. Adam says:

Morning Rico. As far as Arsenal are concerned, I hope we wake one day to find some really good news. Signing another kid and Gervinho saying he wants to stay is hardly encouraging.

  2. pressplay says:

saying Tottenham don’t have History is a huge disrespect towards them! Of course they have history – history of finishing behind us!

  3. Dave Highbury says:

YOU try and defend against Gervinho! He’s almost impossible to stop! Think about it, he’s seriously quick and can accelerate and move twist and turn like a fly. You are too quick to knock him and this player in particular is a confidence player who plays almost totally off the cuff. He has perfect unlocking attributes and no full back in the premiership managed to contain him so NO, I don’t agree with you about wanting him to leave. I am not a sheep and I am not a mug.

  4. Adam says:

You don’t need to defend against Gervinho. He’ll do that for you and give you a good laugh at the same time.

  5. mickygunner says:

I think we still need Gervinho in d team cos Ɯε̲̣̣̣̥ don’t have any winger who can unlock defences with much trickery. Nasri was dat arsenal player before Gervinho was bought from lille. I̶̲̥̅̊ feel Ɯε̲̣̣̣̥ should still keep him until Ɯε̲̣̣̣̥ have a better suitable replacement. Cos Ɯε̲̣̣̣̥ will sure need him for some crazy games…

  6. Adam says:

I see the distinction Rico. After his early season performances Wenger never played him if there was an option. There’s a message there.

  7. W.A.T.H says:

No full back in the Prem lge could contain Gervinho…..!! I just spat my rice crispies all over the kitchen table reading that..!
As Adam says he does a great job of containing himself…! A shimmy here a shimmy there a twist a turn and then ooops he falls over or stands on the ball…! Mind boggling…!

  8. Sparks says:

I agree with Dave Highbury. I cannot understand why some people are so quick to get on the boys back. He is one of the few players we have that is prepared to, and capable of causing havoc in the opposition defence. He makes excellent runs get himself in good goal scoring postions. I would bet Gervinhos conversion rate is better than Girouds God bless him. I think with a good run in the team and the support of the fans, rather than them getting on his back all the time, the boy will be as productive as Mark Overmars. When it coms to trickery he has better technical ability than the dutchman. Gervinho is an Arsenal star in the making but his biggest problem is not his finishing, or crossing but his own fans.

  9. rico says:

mickygunner, we could buy one, Belhanda is a winger isn’t he?

As do I Adam, he was soon dropped for the run in too….

  10. W.A.T.H says:

I do agree that Gervinho causes havoc though………….
Better technical ability than Overmars… Seems we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one Sparks…! It also matters not how much ability you have if you don’t put it into practice and or if you waste it and don’t perform. All those attributes you mentioned are rarely seen…! He hides he treats the ball like a hot potato and if he is that much of a sensitive soul then he’s in the wrong game…! Fans get frustrated and react so grow some and deal with it,show them your good win them over, he doesn’t and even Wenger now doesn’t pick him..! Sell and replace with a proper winger who doesn’t sulk or get wrapped in cotton wool when a few fans question his performances. Think they entitled to on 60k a week.

  11. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Rico – I have to agree with pressplay. Tottenham do have a history, NOT a great one mind you, but they do have a history of staying in our shadow. Also, their managers have history of riding our coat tails by letting us do the scouting and trying to sign our transfer targets before we do.

  12. potter says:

Spurs have a history and it suggests that they are a solid cup team, I lived through their league win when I was 13 yrs old ( I retired this year ) but during that time they have won a few cups on the way. Basically they are not a team for the long run but they can string a few games together, they flatter to decieve somewhat like our other subject this morning Gervinho.

  13. rico says:

    Just the three Wath….

Morning Cg, ok, I get what you both are saying 😉

Have they really won a few cups, must have missed those Potter …

  14. Canadian Gooner says:

W.A.T.H – I trust you have survived losing your breakfast. You have to be careful about spitting-up Rice Krispies. You could aspirate one when you take a breath after doing that. It’s a bugger when you get one of those stuck in your windpipe.

  15. Canadian Gooner says:

Potter – Good one – “…they flatter to decieve somewhat like our other subject this morning Gervinho.”

  16. W.A.T.H says:

Morning CG, it was just the last mouthful that i pebble dashed the table with…. Left me feeling hungry still hence the 3 shredded wheat, normally I have 5….! After seeing the mess from the rice crispies I can def dribble better than Gerv…!

  17. W.A.T.H says:

And I had you down for mid 30’s Potter 😉

No not born mid 30’s before AK comes in with a smart arse comment…!

  18. Canadian Gooner says:

I’m neutral on Gervinho, but I certainly would NOT make a favourable comparison of him versus the ‘Flying Dutchman’ Mark Overmars. If Gervinho ever reaches Mark’s level of achievement, I’ll be spitting-up my breakfast too.

  19. Canadian Gooner says:

Potter – You’ll have to live well past a hundred to think you were as good as Niklas Bendtner already thinks he is.

  20. W.A.T.H says:

CG, for me i watch Gerv and he has no bottle…..! It’s as simple as that, yes he has talent but fails to use it, he doesn’t impose himself and do me a favour you cannot blame fans for the way a player plays, I’m sorry that’s just a cop out. There are fans who get on his back but most don’t certainly not in the ground so he’s hardly had it tough like a few have. As said, grow some and show the fans what your made of…!

  21. W.A.T.H says:

I have it on very good authority that Micko was in the pub last night…. Looked in the mirror and apparently he thought he looked 20 years younger…! He then ordered yet another pint of the black stuff..!

  22. Adam says:

Gervinho might divide opinion, that is part of football, but I believe he is symbolic of the lowering of expectation and by definition, ambition that our years without a trophy has bought about.
Some of us forget that we are, or should be, aiming for the stars. We are one of the richest clubs in the world who have been prudently run to get us into this position, while simultaneously taking the piss out of loyal, faithful supporters by charging monstrous prices. All this, while being fully aware at board and managerial level, that we were not going to win anything. If you think that Gervinho should be playing for a super ambitious club, fighting against the bottomless pocketed Chelsea and Man City and against the institution that is Man Utd, with their acknowledged pulling-power, then fine. Wenger clearly doesn’t fancy him.
Would he get a place at any of our rivals? how often has he made the difference? That’s what great players do. I have nothing against him except that I don’t see him as right for Arsenal when he is taking the place and wage-bill of someone who could be. Every year he stays he could be worth less. I say sell him now to a league where his particular skill-set would be more suited and replace him with a better player. If they don’t work out, then sell them too. We have had too many ” if only” players. Those days must stop here and now otherwise the club risk eroding their mainstream long-term support to dangerous levels.

  23. Sparks says:

How many assists and goals per minute has Gervinho anyone? How does that compare to our other players? Remeber he only played 2 or three games as striker. How do you get his stats by falling over clever clogs. Wenger has been reserved with gervinho because of confidence I think. He know if Gervinho is not on top of his game the fans will get on his back and it would likely be a downward spiral. Fans can make or break a player but most of them don’t give a monkies. Just want someone to hate, Gervinho, Eboue, Song, Arshavin, whoever next?

  24. Sparks says:

Gervinho has no bottle. LOL! don’t make me laugh. One of the few players in our side that is prepared to run at the oposition and make things happen, yess… cause havoc, has no bottle what are you talking about. Your hatred far exceeds you vision.

  25. W.A.T.H says:

Show me a stat Sparks and I’ll show you a distortion of the truth….!
As said he has no bottle if a player got no bottle he’ll never impose himself in the Prem Lge simple as that it’s why he did ok in France as it’s not hard and demanding, nowhere to hide in the Prem Lge.
Ebooooie came throug it stronger and won the fans over, Fans didn’t ruin Arshavin, Arshavin ruined himself also the fact Wenger played him all over the place, get some perspective if your going to throw names about and blame fans for players not being good enough and not showing the right commitment.

  26. W.A.T.H says:

My hatred…. you really have no idea what your talking about do you… I don’t hate anyone in an Arsenal shirt actually I just speak about what I see and he lacks bottle yes… If you disagree then good for you, if you think he is Pele reincarnated that’s your opinion but I don’t see anything in Gervinho once every 3 months to see that he is a good enough player for Arsenal if you live in a blinkered vision of Gervinho being good enough then so be it, Next yu’ll be telling me Jimmy Carter was good and Glenn Helder was great…!

  27. W.A.T.H says:

Heard it on TV……………. says it all…!
What bit didn’t you read where I said fans do get on his back BUT not most…!

  28. Bradster says:

    Morning all,

I see we’re discussing Gerv. Doesn’t he first need to want to go to sell him. Sounds like another AA tale just less lazy.

I also think it’s funny that people moan that our judging a player on a blog breaks his confidence. If he’s reading what we’re writing then he needs a new job because he’s not cut out for pro football.

  29. Dick Swiveller says:

Adam, i refer you to one Salomon Kalou. Won many trophies with Chelsea, had less end product than Gervinho.

I don’t think many would complain if someone better was brought in and Gnabry took his place in the squad, but as a squad player or impact-guy, someone who can use a bit of pace to scare a defence or two, maybe create some space for someone else, with the potential to do more, he’s fully capable.

Ultimately, we need to add to the squad rather than subtract, building it rather than destroying it shows more ambition imo, obvious exits aside.

  30. W.A.T.H says:

Apparently peope get on his back at the ground though Brad…. On 60k a week am sure he can smile about that..!

  31. Adam says:

Wath. You know, I was there when Glen Helder trapped a ball. Honestly. I actually went to the ground as saw it with my own mince pies.

  32. W.A.T.H says:

Adam, you lie………..??? I must of still been in the pub turning up late as usual and missed that Helder phenomenon !! I was however there when he scored a goal, Forest at home..!

  33. Adam says:

It has always seemed strange to me that so many people exist in an emotional vacuum where there is only love or hate. If somebody dares express a negative opinion of a player then that is classed as hate. The reverse holds true too. No Arsenal fan who doesn’t rate Gervinho or any other player actually hates him they just don’t think he is right for where we should be heading.

  34. rico says:

Bradster, I think the club can make it clear to him that he has no future, if they wanted to, I’m sure Barcelona would pay him £60k 😉

Dick, but if we sell him for £10m, we could go and sign a proper winger or Tom Ince ….

  35. S2S says:

    Hey Rico and all,

I am with Dave and to an extent with Sparks on this one.

So its Gervinho day, eh!! Personally I like him. I think if he can add an product to his dribbling, he’ll be at least 10+ goals and 10+ assist a year player.

He never hides even if he’s having a bad day, he’d still go out and try. He’d get back and help FB defend. And then just like Rocky even in 90th min he’ll go running down from our end to the other end. And he’s runs from the flank are awesome and really well timed. He hardly ever gets off side against him and never drifts in way too much so as to provide enough width.

I still have hope for him and I really hope of he’s staying then instead of getting on his back, we support him, applaud him and give him confidence.

One of my wish for this new season is that Gervinho gets 75% of Theo’s finishing ability and Theo gets 25% of Gervinho’s dribbling and 50% of his making runs ability.

P.S. W.A.T.H., CG I hope you remember your deal if Ger comes out good this year.

  36. W.A.T.H says:

If you don’t believe a player is good enough then you hate him, if you don’t agree with the manager then you hate him as well and then that means you actually hate your own club and don’t love the club anymore either as your a “non” believer….!.
Opinion is a very volatile subject it seems..!

  37. rico says:

    11.09, spot on Adam…

I don’t hate the guy, I don’t even hate Squilli, it’s not their fault. I blame the guy who signs them, or the guy who scouts them…

I’m no longer sure we were ever in for Jovetic…

  38. W.A.T.H says:

If Gerv comes out good this year S2S i’ll be the first to say well done to the fella and he’s proves me wrong but I think he hides in a game, I think he gets rid of the ball as soon as he gets it and only rarely shows flashes of what he could do.. Is that attitude, commitment, lack of bottle….. confidence or a dash of all of the above…? No idea i am not him but thats what i see when I watch him play, again just my opinion and I think we could do a lot better than him.

  39. rico says:

😆 Adam, you sure about that….

Hi S2S – we are not getting on Gerv’s back, just some of us don’t think he’s right for the club, each to their own I say….

  40. S2S says:

On Adam’s that comment i come to remember weren’t some Dubai based group trying to buy us from 1.5Billion $? What happened to that?

  41. Adam says:

Dick S. By the same token I might refer you to Arshavin. This is a player who Wenger and the club took a chance on. He started OK but then lost control of his life and his game. He must have cost the club about £30 million and to me, has been an absolute disgrace. I think Kalou, the player you mention, has had more impact than this waste of space. The club should have sold him years ago when he still had some value and they realised that London was just too much for him. He had 100 times the skill of Kalou and blew it-big time. It has cost Arsenal dearly. We can all stump up convenient examples.

  42. S2S says:

Rico, W.A.T.H: Its not us here who could ill motivate him but its people who go out and watch the game at the stadium. I think he gets Rambo kind of treatment when he is on. You know everyone is so anxious what would happen like in a mystery novel and are scared that sort of thing. I guess a player can feel the vibes of crowd and they react to that.

  43. W.A.T.H says:

S2S, it’s ok saying you hear something on the TV what you hear is not what goes on in the stadium, it’s a small percentage most of the time and yes Gervinho frustrates fans for sure. Ramsey has come through all the grief and stick he got off the fans and he got way more than Gerv, most want badly for a player to play well as we all want our team to win but he must also show willing and keep doing what he is there to do, for me has looks to hide, Ramsey has got on with his game and slowly won the fans over, do you see Gerv as having the character to do that…? I don’t but i hope he proves me wrong as that would mean he would improve the team which is all i really care about not individuals…! better individuals add to the collective !!

  44. frednerk says:

The only players that the fans will give a chance to,
are the players who come through the youth system,
not the players who cost 10mil plus on 60,000 a week.

The first player I saw boo..ed at the arsenal was,
    Bob McNab,
I went home that day in-shock,
Since then many players have had the arsenal fans treatment.
In my opinion wenger, seems sh-t scared to play a player,
    the fans boo.
Just like wenger back tracked when critized,
about the Steve Bould influence on the team.

  45. S2S says:

So AU it is. I really hope AU gets seat on the board and I am hoping for Pizzagate and/or throwing of mikes in our boardroom just like it happens in Indian assemblies. lol.

  46. Canadian Gooner says:

S2S – What deal? Am I to submit a video of me spitting-up my breakfast for Rico to post? She does have standards you know.

Rico – We are holding you in reserve for the away game at Shiteheart Lane. You can run at the opposition for the full 90 minutes. They wont know what hit them.

  47. Canadian Gooner says:

S2S – Seriously, if Gervinho comes good this season I’ll be pleased for him and the team. No hard feelings.

  48. Adam says:

It is certainly true that armchair fans get a completely different view of the game and the atmosphere than the “customers” who visit the SSF (Stan’s Sports Franchise) these days.

  49. S2S says:

    W.A.T.H.

Everyone has different personality. Some are sensitive to others reaction, need others approval and some of us are like brick wall who get on with everything cause you don’t care what people think all you care is to prove oneself to ones own. Rambo is later Ger former.

  50. Adam says:

Professional sport, at the highest level, is tough, but very well paid. If, when he was 10 yards out, he would kick the ball actually into the goal, then things might be better for him.

  51. rico says:

I’ll have a think about that then Adam.. 😉

    I hope so Oz..

S2S, it works both ways in my book, like Wath says, others have knuckled down, put better performances in and have quietened their critics..

And clearly AW has little faith in him, the number of appearances suggest that…

  52. tsgh says:

    Morning all,

My fave player is being discussed and there id no Syg or Lee to add to others views.:D

Gerv will come good maybe not in this league or at a club looking for trophies. In my opinion backed by opts stats at least, his figures are better than Nasri and Hleb’s first 2 seasons figures. But then stats lie so…

Gerv should be an option like manure have the likes of A.Young and Chelsea with Moses.

Nice post by the way Rico…Jovetic will come in late July!:)

  53. rico says:

    They sure wouldn’t Cg… 😉

Got to pop off for an hour, can’t believe I have a hospital appointment not only on a Saturday lunchtime, but a Saturday when it’s warm and sunny … Grrrr

    Back in a bit….

  54. Adam says:

There is very little dissent toward any Arsenal player at the ground. The TV and the press like to play it up but the paying crowd are more charitable that they are painted by too many blog parachutists on here.

  55. tsgh says:

Sparks you can’t honestly disagree with Wath that Yao Gerv lacks bottle?how many players have you ever seen score 2 good goals in a game and then misses a chance and then forget how to control a pass 5 minutes later?

I agree he could be up there with the best wingers out there if he had the likes of DB10 or TR07 placing around him but there is no denial he is very erratic.

  56. tsgh says:

,Higuain missed a Sitter last weekend in la liga.players miss chances…even TH14 missed a sitter in the CL final…But some fans would prefer him to Poldi or OG12 who both play backup to Benzema…

  57. W.A.T.H says:

Ts, you seen the Grenier comments….?

S2S, the crowd gave Gerv nothing but support at the start of the season and lots of good vibes and love yet he still managed to vanish back into his shell. Ts maybe Gev has problem with concentration and attention disorder…! 😉 Ok enuff about him…!

  58. W.A.T.H says:

Ts, I like Higuain but i don’t think he’s exactly what we want either…! Is he better than what we have…? debatable… would he improve us..? maybe? can we get better for the same money? probably…!

  59. useroz says:

    Hi,
Old habits die hard; you really think Wenger would change by himself, without others kicking his arse?

I’d recall we ‘did well’ and captureda 16 year old Luke Freeman, the next big something or other…what’s he doing? I assume Luke’s still collecting 8k per week at the club? And there are many more. How about the two Barca kids 16, 17 years old that we took? Toral or somebody? We cut 20 more and we still have too many.

Really fed up hearing these official words from Gervinho. If I were him picking up 60k per week till 2015 and there aren’t some 100k offers on the table, I damn well will honour my silly contract. Would you not?

    Frankly, another medicore
Frenchman isn’t ambition so no interest to see Belhanda or similar specimens near our club,

We should be sorting the needy positions and not let Wenger’s obsession with kids and French Africans run riot till the last week of the window when he will say, again, buying players isn’t like going to the supermarket bullshit…and our best signing would’ve been Sanogo and the like.

We should shop at 20-25m range for our priorities.

  60. devilgunner says:

    Good afternoon Lady and Gentlemen.

I was just reading the comments and practically I am bursting with laughter.

Shame on you Rico for suggesting that the spuddies have no history. The do have one.

They have won the league twice which is a feat in itself considering that lowly Preston and even Huddersfield have won it more then them. Even Arsenal who have not won anything for the last eight years have struggled to reach those heady levels of the sixties.

They have won the FA cup like many teams have done.

They have been consistently achieving good placing in the league for the past 18 years and in fact they have always stayed between the 4th and 6 placing. That shows history of acquiring your targets every season..

Throughout their HISTORY they have managed to keep the gap from us. Infact they are so much proud of the GAP that they have made it their intention that whatever it takes even chocking themselves at the end of the season is becoming commonplace.

And even if Arsenal try their best to finish behind the spuddies by fielding their worst Arsenal team the spuddies have always relied on historical experience to manage and finish behind the Gunners,

So to say that they have no history is one of the worst statements you could have made 😉

Adam……………you make me laugh and cry simultaneously.

  61. tsgh says:

Wath,I did see Clement’s comments.its a typical AW dealing if you consider the player only has 1 year left on his contract…

I prefer Cabella to Belhanda.Belhanda could have joined us last summer but like MVila he thought a big fool would come in with more money.

  62. W.A.T.H says:

I like Cabella as well Ts, Draxler looks a top player Dev but maybe a year to young for us to gamble on..?

  63. tsgh says:

Hi Dev,Draxler is good but it seems he is a big fish in a small pond…he has not been able to transfer his form to the national tram yet.Cabella is a big game player whilst Belhanda was very good with OG12 2 years ago but last season he went missing on big occasion in my view…

  64. W.A.T.H says:

Dev, you seem to be forgetting our price range has just doubled if not trebled from next year on…! If we as fans think like that then the club will carry on behaving like a small team/club and carry on buying from Lidls not Harrods…!

  65. rico says:

    Afternoon all..

Ts, don’t you start on me 😉

Wath, where is Grenier going or is he staying at Lyon?

  66. upgunners says:

Gerv, strikes me as one of those players
that move to other teams to become stars!
By my reckoning, he only needs to play with the right quality of players(team) long enough, only then can we truly judge him.I say he stays one more season atleast.

  67. agirlagunner says:

Boo!! Hello, hello! 🙂 rico, I see the Gervinho has touched a nerve in some. 😛 Off to read the comments.

  68. tsgh says:

    Hi Agag:)

Lady Rico,Stevan is coming after a long and protracted huggle…Viola have recognised the player wants out…Aw wanted him and Pastore 4 summers ago so it looks good.;)

Stan and Dick need to remember they have a duty at Arsenal too … Once they find their passports of course.lol

  69. Adam says:

Hi Rico and Agag. Funny old day here. Slightly muggy and overcast but with distinct signs of Gervinho to bring mirth and incredulity.
Come Great Jabba – Dig deep and rid us of Kronkitis.

  70. Adam says:

Ooh, that Grenier is a tease isn’t he? He “could” be joining the jolly Gunners. I have never seen him play and that leaves me in the perfect position to say that he is just what we need. Luscious Umfalozi once scored against a Simon De Montfort eleven and said the same thing.

  71. agirlagunner says:

Adam, that describes Manila weather, too. 😀 My problem with Gervinho is that he does everything right, except get the ball to hit the back of the net. 😉

  72. allezkev says:

Nevermind Glen Helder, or Jimmy Carter, what about the wing-wizard that was Mark Heeley…

You guys haven’t lived until you’ve seen Heeley dancing down the wing…

    Yeah, those were the days…

  73. Adam says:

Very Zen Agag. Low, low maintenance now so I can spend all my money at The Emirates on Goujons of Cod and chips, a menu description that I think might have a problem if ever confronted with the Trade Descriptions Act. Still, I like to think that a small portion of it has gone towards paying Andre Arshavin for his heartfelt commitment to our club and I am sure his wife is appreciative of my suffering too.

  74. Adam says:

Hey Kev you have the advantage on me with Heeley though I do remember being sickened by Eddie McGoldrick.

  75. allezkev says:

You missed out on Heeley, Adam.
Ah, he was in and around the team about the same time as that useless Aussie, John Kosmina.
Now he could run at defences, but maybe not as well as Rico, or Fido for that matter… 😀

Hey Shopping Buddy. You being responsible with that crddit card I hope…. 😉

  76. W.A.T.H says:

Alex Cropley AK….. least he tried though…!

Evening AGAG, don’t worry am sending you over all my old soaps so you to have have a good scrub….! 😉

  77. potter says:

Helder ,Heeley, Kosmina , McGoldrick , add in Skirton , Furnell, McCullogh and Marinello and you have some of the things that have kept my heart beating all these years.
As for the non supporting of individual players , it’s always been the case or has it. It seems only recently that the criticisms have come with invective. In the 60’s expectations were so low that players that were of the inept level were objects of terrace humour and even had their own songs and nicknames. Perhaps it’s all got too serious now or just that it’s so expensive that people demand value for money.

  78. agirlagunner says:

I don’t recognize any of those names. 😯

Nice, Adam. My mom’s garden is a jungle. She has taken over the sidewalk; neighbors are complaining. 😀 Fish and chips à la Syrup. Sounds like a 3 Michelin star meal. 🙂

WATH, I think I’ll pass. 😉 You need those, buddy. 🙂

AK, I have been behaving. But it feels dismal, if I’m honest. 🙁

  79. Joaquim Moreira says:

    hello!
today is Belhanda…. who is the next one?
Belhanda is a good player… like Gervinho is 🙂
Totts have more history then us in Europe.

  80. tsgh says:

Rico, I do because no one wants Stevan as he is injury prone… AW style… his 30 plus games season… 😉

  81. allezkev says:

More reports (don’t ya just love ’em), that Clement Grenier has hinted that he wants to move to England.
And as usual, those advertisment driven blogs, you know the ones, Bleachers, Here in your Imagination, Goal, Footy Something or Other, In the Know Bullshit, etc etc, have it that he is joining Arsenal…

    Well that’s ok then…!

I expect to see him playing for Chelsea in that case….

  82. Adam says:

Kev. I won’t believe it until I read an article by Hiram J. Knobnosher the third in The Bleacher Report that confirms it.

  83. Will XL says:

Sell Gerv? Nah. Not yet for me at least. His problems are the easiest kind to rectify. When he came back into the squad in the second half of the season he put together a string of performances in which he either assisted or scored… just as he did at the start of the season. The lad hasn’t even had a full season for us yet. Not saying he should be a starter in every game, but there are games in which a Gervinho would be more suitable on the left wing than a Podolski. The same patience we have with Ox should be given to Gerv. No reason why it shouldn’t.

  84. Will XL says:

Trivia… how many goals did we concede due to our “disastrous” zonal marking from corners this season?

  85. Micko says:

Wath, I’ll let you know I often get mistaken for a young Richard Burton, there’s a lot to be said for beer goggles you know.

  86. Adam says:

Will. The difference between Gervinho and the Ox is that Gervinho is 27 years old and Ox is still only 19. Gary Neville made this very point and I agree with him.

  87. Will XL says:

Yes Adam that’s the obvious difference, but if you’re going to be required to perform in the first team, your performances are going to have to be compared to the others in the first team.

Now compared to Gervinho, Ox has not been as effective… despite starting only one game less and played in 7 more games total.

I am in no way complaining about the leeway that Ox is given, but just highlighting the fact that Gerv is excessively scrutinized and criticized for a player who is only questionable (frustratingly so) in very specific situations.

  88. Micko says:

Adam, tbh anything pre Wild Geese would be a result.
I remember Romford Pele was one of Gervinho’s staunchest supporters on here last season, he seems to have disappeared off the radar.
Bank Holiday weekend here rico, highlight was the duck race, eagerly anticipated as it was rained off last year !

  89. Adam says:

Will. Can’t agree I am afraid. For sure your performances will be judged against your fellow team members at some level, but age is a factor, a big factor. Gary Neville showed Gervinho’s lack of composure in front of goal. These are situations that turn one point into three and win you trophies, an endeavour in which Arsenal have been sorely lacking for a while. If you remember, Gervinho had a number of these in the season and if memory serves, blew them all. Neville’s contention that this might be okay in 19 year old, but is a problem with a mature player, was well made I thought. Wenger obviously thinks so too otherwise he would have played him more. When does potential have to be translated into reality? Ask any number of the wonder kids that have come in the door and left a couple of years later. It’s surely an area where managerial quality plays a big part.
You like him and I don’t think he is of the quality we need. I would prefer a top class finisher like RVP instead of him.

  90. rico says:

Can’t believe the ‘Beast’ is still playing…

BBQ needs attending to, catch up in a bit….

  91. Lee says:

In our quest for silverware keeping hold of Gervinho is paramount….we need to build a team around him!
    Or b)????
