Signing a Goalkeeper is a must and this player linked to us is a bit of a shock!

Big Sol has been talking about who he thinks Arsene Wenger needs to sign he said:

He’s definitely got to get a goalkeeper and get someone in the back line. The centre-backs at the club are good footballers. It’s just transferring that into consistency, every game demands different things from each player. So he might have to add a different type of defender into that area to handle certain games and help out next season. It’s good to have a variety at the back because every game throws up different things.

Sometimes you need big-time players and he might have to go for a couple of older players who are bit savvy in the Premier League and can transfer it to Europe. When I was there the first time around, there were guys, me included who said it how it is. We cared about football but also said what needed to be said

But it also helped keep a healthy competitive side to us. Whoever joined in, i.e if Arsene brought a new player in and had to understand what it meant to play for Arsenal, it was made clear very quickly.

Well, so many players get all bitter and twisted about us after they left, they tell us we need to do this that and the other – some are right and more often than not the ones who lack bitterness are those who loved us and loved playing for us…

Big Sol’s comments are right, he isn’t saying we need to buy many, he’s just saying we need to buy in the right places but not upset the balance of what is already within the club.

Didn't bother Sol that he was once a Spud! He loved us as much, if not more......

The big that struck me most though was:

If Arsene brought a new player in and had to understand what it meant to play for Arsenal, it was made clear very quickly.

I wonder who drums that into any new signing these days??

On to a couple of rumours:

Blaise Matuidi – yep, his name has finally made it into the papers this summer and the only thing that surprises me is how long it’s taken!
It seems a long time ago since the name Matuidi has NOT been linked with us, each window it’s reported that he wants to join, or Wenger eyes the Frenchman, or some other kind of comment about him.

His club value him at around £13 Million, so let’s forget this story, right here, right now!

Blackburn have confirmed that Samba’s ‘ambition’ is to join us and The Sunday People suggests that Wenger is giving thought to a move for Joey Barton. Samba, great news, Barton, no way not ever, he’s a little s***e…..

That’s it for another day, have a good one….

  1. Steve Palmer says:

    Morning.
I share the same thoughts, A good quality goalkeeper would have been my first purchase, Czezsney i have no doubts will be an excellent goalkeeper but i don’t believe his ready yet. Having said that, i cannot see Wenger buying a keeper, Manone Fabianski and Czezsney on the books suggests to me that Wenger will continue his faith in these young men. Personally i see this as a bad decision but lets hope Wenger knows better. As i have stated before i don’t feel that we need wholesale changes, but again Wenge’rs view on things may differ. Campbell has said that players will welcome in new players and they will soon feel at home, i am not so sure, but again time will tell.

  2. arsenal fan says:

    ya he was….
but rumours are barcelona want to sell villa for 40 million to to fund the transfer of fabregas , rossi and sanchez…

  3. arsenal fan says:

i thought at the start that maybe we could get brad friedel for a season or to but spuds have got him think…..

  4. rico says:

Agree Steve, i’d like to see an keeper with 2/3 seasons left in him but sadly i don’t think wenger will see it that way…

AF, if Barca really want Cesc, we should get Villa in exchange with some cash…

  5. Joaquim moreira says:

    good moening!
I’m agree with Sol. He has the same idea and comments like I’ was expose a couple of weeks ago.
I’m going to the beach 🙂
    Have a nice day!
Note: it’s time to upgrade the friendly matches on the left side 🙂

  6. rico says:

    goonerjon, welcome

i don’t think you would be the only one, there is PL experience needed but not him, Parker is a much better option if we are looking to buy in that area…

  7. Gunner38 says:

To goonerjon – Barton is EXACTLY what we need – nasty, aggressive, annoying but most of all A WINNER WITH GUTS!

  8. goonerstan says:

morning rico I will take Barton any day. he’s got this nasty streak about him. I want to see stoke and blackburn muscle us off the ball. Sign him up arsene

  9. rico says:

Hi stan and G38, but he’s horrid 😉

Wouldn’t be surprised if wenger goes for him though, cheap and english…

    But would he join us…?

  10. Will says:

I don’t think we need a new keeper, as I have said, we need a tough centre back who has a voice and can organise. I watch games and everyone is shouting and pointing but no one is commanding. There is no one voice staying calm and giving orders.

If we had one or two of those, the keepers would be protected from the high balls that come in but I feel that the keepers feel as if they have to come for every ball and there is no trust in the defenders.

One thing that this website has confirmed to me is, there are a lot of angry people out there and the internet gives them a safe and faceless avenue to abuse. Not just about Arsenal but on any subject. On any opinion based website you can find them, the angries (I know it is not a word) who call others idiots or wankers etc etc.

    Some news on finances:

    http://www.propertyweek.com/news/barratt-to-build-arsenal-stadium-resi-project/5020115.article

  11. goonerstan says:

Why not….he gets the chance to play champions league football…I pray wenger gets him. I will like to wipe the grin off pulis’s ugly face. That’s a bargain of a lifetime..

  12. rico says:

Hi Will, you mean HH? We aren’t that bad….

Fair point stan, its his off field stuff i don’t like as well as his thuggery on the pitch, you know as soon as he wears red and white, he wouldn’t get away with half of what he has done…

    Morning Kt

  13. goonerstan says:

Yeah will…..its appalling…I even indulge in it myself and I have made up my mind to stop…..its morally wrong

  14. Gunner38 says:

Rico – that’s the whole point – he’s horrid! Arsenal are too nice and we need nasty fuckers to get stuck in and show we mean business.

  15. Will says:

Rico, not just HH but the internet. How many forums do you see with the angries on there? The internet gives them a place they can swear and abuse with safety.

As for Barton, no thank you. The guy is a liability on and off the pitch.

Remember when we had, Vieira, Adams, Keown, Campbell, even Bergkamp, Ljungberg and Gilberto. Teams like Stoke would never of done what they do now. We had steel with our silk. Players who could pass, play and punish. Now we have players who can pass and play.

  16. rico says:

I know Will, I guess it’s better than taking it out on an innocent party on the street or in the pub though – not that i condone either….

  17. rico says:

It’s all taken from the papers Will, i’ll believe any signing when afc.com confirm it….

I think samba deal will soon be done though, especially as it’s BB owners who have confirmed he wants to join us – all down to Wenger now to pay the asking price…

  18. KING gooner says:

yeah rico,it’s reflective of how low this(uk)morals have declined-with a “me”agressive attitude by the knuckle draggers. i call them”keyboard warriors”sad, really sad..

  19. gunner87 says:

buy samba and cahil stick them in the middle and move tommy v to midfield he can hold very well. buy enrique he had a quality season and more consistent then clichy!! your thoughts??

  20. Will says:

I would say a tough, experienced centre back who can last a season and organise. We TV, JD and Kos we have enough especially with Bartley coming through.

We need a clever but tough defensive midfielder. As good as Song has become, I still don’t think he is a great barrier and a proper def mid.

And as many of agree, we need an out and out goal scorer, someone who lives to score. I would go all out for a name simply because players live and die on reputations. Defenders were scared of Henry because he was Henry and people knew what he could do. We need a striker that makes teams change the way they play simply to try to stop him.

  21. rico says:

    Hi gunner87

I’m not all for changing players to fill a position, if we need a DM in Wengers eyes, i’d rather he bought one, with Cahill and Samba we could finally rotate/rest players at the back properly….

  22. rico says:

If Bartley stays then i think we will only buy one CH, if he goes/loaned we need two imho…

    2 CH’s
    1 DM
    1 Winger
    1 striker

    Mmme, five 😉

Six with a keeper but i know he won’t buy one….

  23. Will says:

We don’t need both. That would mean we would have:

    TV
    JD
    Kos
    Squill
    Bartley
    The Spanish kid
    Samba
    Cahill.

  24. Will says:

My ideal team (including speculation) is:

    Ches

    Sagna Tv Cahill Clichy

    Jack Song Cesc

    Theo Rvp Nasri.

The only one I really want changed would be Song for a brutal and proper enforcer.

  25. rico says:

    I disagree Will

Squilli is rubbish, JD fitness is a concern, Kos isn’t right for the bully boys and Miquel and Bartley will be loaned i think….

  26. rico says:

Will, we are Arsenal, to not be left behind next season we need to build….

    🙂

Got to pop off for a bit, Sunday Lunch with the family and all that 🙂

    Won’t be long….

  27. Arsenal Avenue says:

I agree with Sol. We need someone who cares about playing for Arsenal. I can’t believe that Denilson got his chance to play for our team after he jogged beside Valencia for 25 yards which cost us the FA Cup match against United.
We have too many losers in our team at the moment. Wenger needs to get rid of Diaby, Squillaci, Bendtner, Denilson, and Eboue. Almunia and Rosicky should join them too.

  28. Will says:

No matter how much we love the club, we have to remember we are running a “self-sustaining model” which means we can’t do a Man City and Chelsea and have £100k a week players sitting in the stands.

  29. rico says:

Hi AA, sorry for the delay, first comments go into moderation…

We now have Stan Will, the so called mega rich owner….

  30. Will says:

Rico, he has said we will continue the way we are now. Can you see him having 8 central defenders on the books?

  31. rico says:

No I can’t Will but, as i said earlier, if Bartley and Miquel go on loan, we need to buy two centre halfs imho…

  32. Joaquim moreira says:

    Hi!
Enrique is not a good option.
    Almunia, Rosicky, Squil, Bendtner.. ok
The others, a question mark. For me, Clichy probably is the 3th or 2th left full back of the League.
Will, you miss my name in your favourite team.

  33. rico says:

WATH would have been pleased to read Fellaini wants out of Everton to play CL Football – lets hope Wenger reads and acts on that one….

  34. Will says:

Sorry JM, not sure of your best position 😉

Rico, who knows what to think about Hill-Wood.

If we have £60m before player sales and we can get £20m from those sales, I think we will be very happy at the end of the window.

  35. rico says:

£80 Million in total, and that is without any sale of Cesc…

If Wenger spends it all, thats six players the way he spends…

  36. arsenal fan says:

wenger should seriously spend some money cos already many a supporter have turned their back on wenger and if we get to a bad start who knows what will happen….
we got 60 million already because of the property sales
1.11 million have gone mostly for gervinho means 48 million left
2.samba + cahill will be mostly 28 million
3.menas 20 million left which should go for
felliani for me ….what do you think…

  37. Will says:

Let’s not forget, the number £60m is media talk and we never know how much we have to spend. Maybe we need to get the Russian at 30% so he gets to see the books and lets us all know how much we have.

  38. rico says:

    Cahill
    Samba
    Gervinho
    Felliani
    Sinclair
    Baines or Enrique

    🙂

And I just read that Cesc could be off in a 28M + Jeffren Suarez deal…..

  39. arsenal fan says:

we need a midfielder this summer because
    1.we dont have song
2.no gervinho if we have signed him
    3. our injury problems are very bad during the winter period….
4.likes of frimpong, coquelin i dont know if they are good enough

  40. Joaquim moreira says:

    Sunday news:
    a) The top leader of the ‘Gunners’, Peter Hill Wood, admitted that Barcelona is initiated contacts and that is “understandable” desire to return to Cesc Fabregas of Spain.
“They asked us for Fabregas. Been in contact, but has not submitted a proposal. We did not want to leave, only that it is Barcelona and it is understandable that you want to go home, “said Peter Hill-Wood, told the Sunday Mirror.
The president also confirmed that Arsenal’s Fabregas leave if the English club will be provided the necessary capital to secure his replacement.

    b) The England midfielder Joey Barton, Newcastle, is appointed by the British press as a hypothesis to strengthen Arsenal.
According to the Sunday People, the coach of the ‘Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger, I would count on their squad with the help of Barton.
Newcastle will be available to negotiate the pass of the medium, which only has a contract until 2012. About 1.7 million may be sufficient to ensure the player.

    c) Eden Hazard midfielder was honored to have heard that Barcelona is following closely the evolution in Lille.
“Barcelona? It is an honor to see my name associated with the best teams in the world but have nothing else to say except that it is very gratifying to hear such news, “noted Hazard, told the Mundo Deportivo.
The name of the average Belgian has also been associated with Real Madrid, Inter, Bayern and Arsenal, but the president of Lille has not revealed a lot of openness to negotiate the pass of the young hope.

Note: Zidane said two days ago, that he does not hesitate to buy Hazard

  41. arsenal fan says:

We are also behind jurado of spain who plays for schalke 04 as a possible replacement for fabregas…..
I dont understand this barton situation he doesnt fit in ,he mostly plays long balls and we dont have a target man upfront we have van persie who is mostly injured ,if we play 4-4-2 wth rvp and chamakh then it makes sense…..i dont like barton much but will certainly add some steel and nastiness which is needed to the team……

  42. Joaquim moreira says:

Jurado is good but how old is he?
Christian Zapata (Udnese – Colombia) central back?

  43. rico says:

JM, what do you make of the Barton story??

Reality is we are linked to loads, we’ll soon see what we end up getting, prob Samba and Gervinho and that will be it……

  44. arsenal fan says:

    JM,
ZAPATA has said he wants to join liverpool and he will be signed in the coming weeks i say do we only inquire bout players eg barton… for 1.5mil same as jenkinson we give him cl what more does he want ….if by next week we dont sign players ,nothings gonna happen cos by the 1st of july super signings will be made by likes of chelsea , manchester city , liverpool and manu and we will be again be left with second choices

  45. Joaquim moreira says:

    rico, english press, nothing more.
Jurado was playing at A. Madrid a few years ago. Zapata , colombian press, notihing more.

  46. rico says:

AF, we should have bought our targets by now, i don’t know why wenger is waiting, it’s crazy….

Good, i don’t want him in an afc shirt JM….

Will, in the defence yes, but elsewhere, i am not so sure he means that.

  47. rico says:

Good Will, hope you are right – we sure need it but that kind of suggests that he will get a DM?

  48. K-TR7 says:

Fabregas has created 466 goalscoring chances in the league over the past 5 seasons- more than any other player in the same period.

  49. K-TR7 says:

Its also astonishing how sections of the media are saying we should replace cesc with nasri.cesc had his ‘worst season’ but still had 9 goals and 17 assists compared to nasri’s 14 goals and 1 assist.AA has also been much maligned but had 10 goals and 18 assists.nasri doesn’t have that decisiveness AA/cesc have.if we lose both cesc and AA it will be a big blow.

  50. Will says:

I think it does, I have a feeling we will be seeing the brutal bastard we have all been looking for.

  51. K-TR7 says:

Cesc created a goal scoring chance every 28 minutes last season which was the highest in the top 5 leagues.

  52. K-TR7 says:

Hi will.you seem very optimistic this summer.lets hope Arsene delivers early considering how difficult our start will be.

  53. rico says:

Exactly Will, just what I was thinking – who though is that player?? The ones i can think of are not that tall…

  54. arsenal fan says:

ya cesc has been very instrumental for us ,comparing all the top players playing in his positions eg sneijder , modric , even xavi and iniesta , silva his stats are untouchable plus hes playing in the epl the toughest league in the world dont know how much disrespect barca are showing to cesc by paying 35 mil he is atleast worth 50million
    1.sneijder 4 goals and 5assists
    2.modric 1 goal and 4 assists

  55. K-TR7 says:

AF Modric isn’t anywhere near cesc.even when cesc played CM for us he was much more influential in terms of goals/assists.i also read that cesc made 15 assist-assists last season.im dreading the day cesc leaves us.am going to be broken when he does.an immense player.

  56. K-TR7 says:

If cesc does end up staying after the summer break which he hasn’t had one proper one in a long time i expect him to have a blinder next season especially with the Euros coming up.

  57. arsenal fan says:

me too kt , cesc is just phenomenal and will go down as the clubs greatest , but i still think he wont leave he has a lot more to give and im sure it will happen soon…….

  58. agirlagunner says:

Boo! Good one, rico. A good number of our players do not seem to know what wearing our shirt is about.

I thought I had been spammed. Turns out it’s my internet connection. 😳

  59. rico says:

Hi agag, you’d never be spammed 😉

Big Sol spoke a lot fo sense, especially the bit about letting new signings know what it means to play for Arsenal – you are the first to mention that…. other than me in the post of course 😉

But isn’t that the one thing some of ours lack, the meaning of Arsenal, we need someone like him in the managerial team to drum that into the players…

  60. agirlagunner says:

KT, it would be a massive loss if Cesc were to return to the Stains. But to leave us for Barca is a cop out, imho. He should stay and become one of our legends. He certainly has shown he has the makings of one.

Love the stats; but even without knowing the specifics, we always knew Cesc was that great. 🙂

  61. agirlagunner says:

The page wasn’t rendering properly, rico. 🙁 And WATH spammed me when he was playing deputy. 😛

Our players let their heads drop too easily; so few are up for the challenge. I think that’s what’s notable about Jack; you can tell he loves wearing that shirt. I hate it when they talk about their dream clubs. WTH? Arsenal should be the end all and be all of their footballing lives.

  62. K-TR7 says:

Cesc’s assist record just put it into perspective how good Henry was.he would score 30 goals and claim 20+ assists.not even taking into consideration Bergkamp’s stats…that team was insane and should have dominated England and ended our CL drought.

  63. rico says:

spot on re jack agag, he is a joy to behold – even when his game is off he still fights with every bone in his body…

so many of ours could learn from his attitude….

I’ll have a word with WATH about spamming you 😉

  64. K-TR7 says:

One can only hope that jack/ramsey develop cesc’s ruthless decisiveness.only AA and rvp come close to him at the club in that aspect.id love to see those 3 close to 100%.the closest we came to seeing that was in 09/10 when we beat B’burn 6-2 at home.we were tearing them a now one virtually every time we crossed the halfway line.

  65. rico says:

I’m not sure re Cesc agag, just something makes me think this summer could be the one 🙁 🙁

I’ll post it this week then Kt, it will help me out as i am having a short break but will be around….

  66. rico says:

I’m off for the day peoples, catch you in the morning…

Have a good evening and for all the Dad’s out there, hope you were spoilt today… 🙂

    Nighty…
