Should Arsenal offer Troy Deeney a Premier League lifeline?

Morning all.

Arsenal fans might not have liked what Troy Deeney once said about Arsenal and the lack of balls running through the squad but who at the time disagreed? I know I didn’t. Didn’t like hearing it, especially from that little s**t but he was right. We’d blown a 1-0 lead back in 2017, losing 2-1 by the end of the match. Arsene Wenger blamed our loss on the penalty award but Deeney disagreed.

I said the other day that the Watford central striker is a player one can’t help but dislike but he’s also a player I’d rather have in my team than to be facing him on a Saturday afternoon.

We can’t look at today other than we played against a very good Arsenal team, who are in an FA Cup final and we wish them well for next week. All their players have been great on and off the pitch and you wish them well.

Deeney is the type of player who’ll win his team a penalty, score a scrappy goal, win a game from a losing position. He’s everything Arsenal are not or at least not known for being. He’s like an Ian Wright but with more attitude. I know one of his knees can play up but a pay as you play deal, or something similar and he’d be a great player to bring off the bench when we need a plan b, or even c. He’s the kind of player with an attitude we lack.

Basically, Arsenal need some bad boys but the right kind of bad boys.

Deeney worth a punt, or just a ridiculous idea?

Transfer gossip from this mornings finest…

The Mirror:

  • Mikel Arteta has told Sokratis Papastathopoulos that he has no future at Arsenal. The Spaniard is set to revamp his squad at the Emirates and has deemed the Greek defender surplus to requirements.
  • Atletico Madrid have reportedly rejected an offer from Arsenal for midfielder Thomas Partey. According to Get French Football News, the Gunners bid £22.5m plus Matteo Guendouzi in exchange for the 27-year-old. They add that Atletico knocked back the offer as they only want a straight cash sale for Partey, whose release clause stands at £45.6million.

The Sun and Express:

  • Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal for Sporting Lisbon teen prodigy Joelson Fernandes. The deal could be wrapped up tomorrow.

And the Philippe Coutinho loan rumours rumble on..

See you in the comments guys..

Alright Rico 😉 Nice read, thank you. I agree we lack players with the traits you’ve mentioned, but…….at 32, it’s a no from me!! I want younger and to think long term rather than someone closing in on retirement! Although we love dishing out a contract to someone of that particular age urgh…..Have we sold anyone yet??!! 😄
I’ve just seen the Mancs are eyeing up Sancho, Koulibaly, Grealish and Rice!! Wow!! I’d love Grealish and Rice!
I just hope Raul hurries up and pulls his finger out – there’s so much to do!! This window is crucial….

Rico, did you watch ‘Anthony’ on BBC last night? Omg it was heartbreaking…..

  2. Cicero says:

    Good morning Rico.

Troy Deeney? I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole! Too old and barely able to last ninety minutes.

The Championship is the best place for him to see out his remaining time as a player.

Sue, for sheer entertainment watch A Suitable Boy, BBC 1.

  3. rico says:

Haha Sue, I’d hoped a debate would kick off.

I wouldn’t mind him on a pay as you play deal…

    Anthony? I didn’t. I take it it’s worth watching?

  4. Sue says:

    There’s still time, Rico…😀

True story about Joey Barton’s brother/cousin killing an 18 yr old in an unprovoked racist attack…..

Thanks, Cicero, will have a butchers 😉

Succinct I thought . Martimelli and Nketiah are the Immediate future , Deeney offers no more than Lacazette except he is 3 years older. They will both want similar money and if our midfield is incapapble of getting the best out of Lacazette , it will be no more prolific with Deeney.

  6. Aussie Geoff says:

Hi Rico and all According to reports we want to buy Dani Ceballos who is rated at 30 to 35 million euros if this amount is true what about a straight swap Ceballos for Guendouzi

  7. VCC says:

Its a big No from me rico. By all means get a “different” type of CF, a tall, good header of the ball, but Deeney is well past his sell by date.

it’s getting very frustrating waiting to hear what dead wood Arteta is shipping out. There’s so many who we need to get rid of so the sooner the better, and give us enough time to get replacements.

My hunch is Kroenke will only contribute around £50mil this summer so we need to generate more revenue (sales) to acquire the two quality players we desperately need.

  8. rico says:

I was thinking more of a stop gap, a goal getter who would do for a season before returning to top four, hopefully. Gabriel is out until 2021, Lacazette and Auba might be sold… just thinking outside the box whilst the club is struggling for cash.

  9. VCC says:

    Aussie Geoff 10:41

If Real agree to that, then it’s a no brainer. But I can’t see Real hierarchy being as stupid as ours.

  10. allezkev says:

Morning All, that’s one hell of a brave post Rico are you intent on upsetting everyone before the cup final?
Having said that if my memory serves me well I do recall Adam once saying to me how much he admired Deeney and the formidable physicality and technical proficiency he brought to the Watford attack, mind you at the time he had been drinking….

  11. Aussie Geoff says:

Can some one answer this question please just wondering if we buy a player from another country will he be allowed to enter England with all these virus restrictions. I now it was a different reasons but remember Arsene wenger brought a Asian player who was refused entry then we had to try and loan him out

  12. potter says:

That was work permit related and we did not have friend in the foreign office with deep pockets that needed filling.

  13. allezkev says:

Number of deliveries bowled to take 500 Test wickets

    25528 McGrath
    28150 Anderson
    28430 Broad
    28833 Walsh
    29511 Muralitharan
    30200 Warne
    32959 Kumble

  14. Joaquim Moreira says:

It looks like Arsenal is in Lisbon by Joelson (18 years old)
He is a good player only, who usually plays on the left side (left wing)

  15. ScottfromOz says:

Kev, there is only one Pigeon.
Best ever by a mile 🙂
    Morning all.
Deeney-let that bastard rot where he belongs hahaha

  16. allezkev says:

McGrath was the best in terms of deliveries for sure Scott, you can’t argue there.

So I guess that makes Anderson and Broad better bowlers than Warne… 😉

  17. Cicero says:

Two players with over a thousand test wickets between them playing in a test match for the same side must be some sort of record.

  18. Le Coq Monster says:

    Evening all.

I`ll go with “ridiculous idea” seeing as you said it, Rico. hahaha

If a mate had asked me that question it would have got a …….”bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep” reply, I`m sure you have the imagination to fill in the bleeps! 😉

Talking of “bleeping” ridiculous, is my mucker VCC suggesting Kroenke will spend £50M of his own money ?

Since the ruling to wear face masks I reckon there has probaly been an unforeseen rise in some serious injuries some resulting in the deaths of………..Smokers!…….smoke inhalation from trying to smoke in their masks and third-degree burns from face masks catching fire!………..time to give up the disgusting habit people!……………no!…..cant do it?…….do you need a government health warning on your mask?………..time to carry a face distinghuiser then!😷

  19. Le Coq Monster says:

It is indeed, Potter! hahaha………………….glad you know what I meant, unlike FB, you cant edit your own posts on blogs!

  20. potter says:

Being distinguished I thought it might come with a Terry Thomas type cigarette holder a tiny hole cutter for your mask and a monocle.

  21. ScottfromOz says:

Kev, Warne was the best spin bowler ever 🙂
    McGrath, best pace bowler ever.
Sue, it often gets me in trouble hahahahaha

  22. Aussie Geoff says:

According to Goal.com Arsenal player of the year is between Aubameyang – Saka and Leno if this is correct I pick Leno

  23. Le Coq Monster says:

According to ……………………….Me.com, Geoff, Arsenal manager of the year is between Unai, Freddie and Mikel, this is correct and I pick Magic Mikel.
