Should Arsenal challenge Liverpool for Subotic? England freeze on big night….

Morning all.

New boy at home

Dear friends, last year I realised that my love of football in an active role on the pitch is too big to just be able to see it from the outside.

I am now at the best age for a footballer and naturally want to use this time to bring me and my team forward every day and to have the feeling of being needed on the pitch.

I don’t want to earn my money sat on the bench, but to be an active part of a story as I was until last year. I hope you can understand.

Those words are from Borussia Dortmund centre-back Neven Subotic on his Facebook page as he explains the reasons for wanting a move away from Germany. He’s fed up with sitting on the bench as he wants to be playing. Liverpool are rumoured to be in the mix to sign him and no doubt that’s based purely on the Klopp connection with BvB in the past but at 27 years old, would Subotic be the perfect central defender for Arsenal? We’ve certainly been linked to him numerous of times over previous years but perhaps now is the most realistic time we could actually get him.

Granit Xhaka arrived in London yesterday for a look around his new club and sign his contract.

Granit Xhaka

I don’t care about him missing a penalty for Switzerland and I doubt it’ll bother him too much by the time the season kicks off, all that matters now is Arsenal and I think we can all expect great things from him.

What I am glad about though is Jack Wilshere being the only Arsenal player to have been part of the dismal and embarrassing performances dished up by the England team at the Euros and let’s be honest, even he shouldn’t have been selected by Roy Hodgson. He wasn’t fit, he hadn’t played for most of the season and instead of being in France, he should have been preparing to be fit for his club before the new season kicks off. Why he was selected, or even given the all clear to go by Arsenal, beggars belief.

Last night has to be up there with one of the worst, if not the worst performances I’ve seen by an England side for years. No guts, no fight, no leader, a rubbish keeper and no team spirit. Absolute garbage!

But well done to Iceland and I hope they beat France in the next round because there’s no chance England would….

Have a good Tuesday guys….

Morning Rico, that must have been difficult to write, er, the England bit not Subotic…

A lot of mention of the population of Iceland will be trotted out over the next few days in relation to England’s underwhelming performance…
As I wrote yesterday, I think the English football problem is between the ears of our players, although the FA have long been an obstacle to progress at national level…

Subotic would be an interesting addition to any squad, but why has he struggled to get into the Dortmund team..?

Ginge your the Bundesliga expert on here (yawn ? ) what’s the sitch with Subotic then?

    Morning All…

  2. FREDERIC SLIMANE says:

i agree with everything you wrote except for the part where you want iceland to beat france, being french i cannot allow it:)

  3. rico says:

    Morning Kev..

What a load of utter rubbish on display eh. Over-rated Totts players, unfit Jack, and the rest were dire too and as for Hart being Englands number one, no chance!

  4. Wavy says:

    Brexit
    Engexit
    Total shit!

What a week. What a week……..come on Arsenal let’s have some stunning newsin!
    We all need a lift.

Morning all snowing here, well metaphorically.

  5. rico says:

Thankfully, it’s not really snowing Wavy…..

Wonder if the stories about Iwobi being blocked for the Olympics are true..

  6. gnarleygeorge9 says:

What is this constant love English football has for Hotshit players. 5 in the starting line up, they were doomed b4 a ball had been kicked. On a more positive note, @ least you are still a country, not a puppet state of Germany ?

  7. tsgh says:

AS17 to Juve will happen; not sure if this summer though.. As mentioned when he joined he said when leaving Udinese that he always wanted a move to Turin.

Kev me an expert.. Micko will spit at that. 😉 well Subotic is very similar to Kosser and Gabriel; He was better than Hummels a few years back but it appears injuries and form has taken its toll.

One player Goonie and I use to talk about Papastathopoulos coming in finished Subotic plus young Ginter

  8. gnarleygeorge9 says:

I’m good thanx rico. Still following The Arsenal, though Fox here have lost the PL rights to Optus & that Alexis news is a worry as well.

  9. Joaquim Moreira says:

Subotic why? That central back from Iceland, who had scored and played for Kranosdar is very good, cheaper and has quality..

  10. Marinello says:

    Hi all,

Great summing up of the ‘performance’ from the England team last night. The word Gutless springs to mind….
I hope Wales come out of the traps against Belgium on Thursday. No one expects them to win but……..

  11. allezkev says:

With the exception of 1966, England’s best two performances in major international tournaments, since the end of the maximum wage, have been Italia 90 and Euro 96…

In both of those cases England played three at the back, similar to Italy, with wing backs and reached the semi-final of both…

Of course having managers and coaches who knew what they were doing helped, but maybe there is something in the three at the back tactic…?

    Just saying…

  12. Le Coq Monster says:

Thanks Rico, but I think along the lines of Kev…………….I want the player keeping Subotic out !.
With injuries Subotic is a Substandard Subbuteo Sub !. 😀

  13. bradster says:

    Afternoon all,

I think the poor performance stems from the coach and no game plan at all.

I see Mane signed for Liverpool for an undisclosed fee. Good buy, they need a good winger/striker from the left.

  14. Hell Raising Devil says:

LCM you want the player keeping Subotic out of the team. Fine and good reasoning as well. However…..PV04 was rotting in the Milan reserves when we bought him. He was being kept out of the team by Desailly. Who would you have preferred…..MD08 or PV04

  15. Le Coq Monster says:

No idea Rico !……it could be Senderos for all I know, I just needed to get the Subbuteo remark out ! hahaha

That probably answers Devil as well ! 🙂

  16. Le Coq Monster says:

Come to think of it !……………….we need the player who is keeping the likes of Lacazette and Benzema out of the France team !……………………….who could that be ? 😆

  17. Obi says:

Re, the above picture. AW is not a nice man. Why would you put Xhaka’s locker next to Wilshire? Jack is going to be mad at the guy all season for keeping him on the bench.

  18. rico says:

Blimey Lc, that’s worrying. Is he really he best France has got? 😉

Ha ha Obi but Jack won’t be in the dressing room, he’ll be on the physio table… lol

  19. Le Coq Monster says:

Now this why I dont support any of the so called home nations in football or anything else as the chip on their shoulders and jealousy of England is confusing seeing as most of them (apart from most scots ) support EPL teams !…………………and dont get me started on Eire as they are not even a home nation !…………………….although, I`m 99% certain that these Welsh lads are celebrating that they have won a night out at a Sheep massage parlour !…………….Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    https://twitter.com/90thMin/status/747553101440245760

  20. Le Coq Monster says:

Euro`s and WC………..England have only won 6 knockout stage games since 1966 !…………….dont need the Welsh, Irish(both) or Scots to boo us, with that record I`ll boo them myself !…….we really are shit aren`t we ! hahaha

  21. rico says:

Dreadful record LC, especially from the ‘best league’ in football. What a joke…

Let’s hope so Paul re Rooney and a few others…

  22. Joaquim Moreira says:

why England not go for Iceland swedish coach? Probably after the Euro, he wants to leave…

  23. Obi says:

Rico and Ts, and to think I was hoping JW will be around for the season. If not for nothing to see how AW will rotate him, Xhaka, Elneny, Santi, Coq, and Ramsey – lol.

  24. Le Coq Monster says:

At the end of the day regarding my own feelings Rico, I am an Arsenal supporter first, followed by Arsenal U21`s, then Arsenal youth teams, then Arsenal Ladies, then Arsenal`s Gay team ………………….etc` etc` etc`…….England come way down the list especially with 5 Spuds and my main reason for wanting England to do well was Arsenal related in that I wanted the Spuds exhausted !
I`m sure I`m not alone in that way of thinking !……………………We hate Totnumb and we hate Totnumb…………………………………………..

  25. Adam says:

Evening Rico and all. I wonder how long it will be before Gregg Dyke starts blaming Wenger for England’s problems again.

  26. Le Coq Monster says:

Remember Beckham taking some unsavoury stick from all the rival fans after a World Cup for getting sent off !……………………………well, every clubs supporters should give the Totnumb team some stick this coming season for our inept Euro`s !.

  27. Le Coq Monster says:

Not just these days Rico……always for me !

England has always had some unsavoury characters playing for them over the years making it a dilemna in trying to cheer certain bastards on……….whether it be Sherringham, Kane, Hoddle, Lineker……………..I`m sure you can see some kind of pattern emerging here !. hahaha

  28. rico says:

I tend to support them more if they have a few Arsenal players in LC… 😉

Just for a while anyway but sadly, that doesn’t happen often…..

  29. Le Coq Monster says:

May I add that Hoodle was not put on my previous comment for being an unsavoury bastard because of his fantastic footballing skills, but for his crimes against music for his Diamonds Lights song with another Totnumb player Waddle and for their crimes against Barnet`s for their abuse of Mullets !

  30. Le Coq Monster says:

I think any Arsenal player playing for their Country is just added stress for the supporters in that with our injury record you know it`s bound to happen and worry about it…………certainly with me, just look at poor Alexis`s ankle above ! 😥

  31. Rick says:

    Breaking News.

Kwame Ampadu the new coach of our U 18 side,

His assistants will be Tony Adams and Thierry Henry.

This is out of the blue could we now produce a defender

  32. allezkev says:

    Night Rico…

I know what you mean about the Celts celebrating England losing, GLIC, but I still wanted Wales and Northern Ireland to do well and I’ll be supporting the Welsh against the Belgians…

    Rick; contracts:
Zelalem, Crowley, McGuane (have you seen him, I believe he’s quite good), De Gracia, Da Silva, O’Conner, Gilmour (I’ve heard he’s a bit special) all up to 2017…
    Dragomir & Iliev 2018…
    Bennacer, Keto, Bielik 2020…

  33. Rick says:

Kev DE Kat U18 coach has returned to Holland.

Ampadu’s promotion means we are 1 coach short.
The academy players started training today,
They play Boring Wood on the 18th July then the U 19s play in the Durban cup
    against the following,
    KZN Academy 28th July
    Sporting Lisbon 30th July
    Golden Arrows 1St Aug.
The s-final is 4th Aug and the Final 6th Aug

From what I saw of Mcguane last season he looks very good.
He will be playing for the U19s and U21s this season and he is still only 18.
Not seen much of Gilmour I was told he was injured for a long time.
The Durban Cup is going to be on the internet I will post a link at the time

  34. Wavy says:

Are they grooming He ray and Adams to take over from Wenger in 2024? I wonder. The new ‘dream team’

  35. bradster says:

    Morning all,

That’s a nice dilemma for Wenger’s morale code. If the FA ask him to be the England coach would he jump at the opportunity, which I doubt another will exist for the next 3 years, see his contract out or extend it at Arsenal.

  36. rico says:

    Morning Brad and all..

He’ll stay where he’s ‘safe’ I suspect. Can’t see him managing England as the media would be all over him if things didn’t improve and let’s be honest, he struggles to assemble a great squad with money so managing those England flops would be a step too far for him. imo of course… 😉

  37. bradster says:

I think he would do well with an international team. His problem for me is value for money, eliminate that and he can choose who he feels is the best.

  38. rico says:

But he struggles to pick his best from the Arsenal squad….

Mind you, it might mean those Totts flops wouldn’t get selected…

  39. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. I can’t see Wenger being a big enough mug to want to manage England, especially after the abuse he has had from Dyke and rest of the dickheads on the gravy train.
It’s not as if he is short of money either and his earning potential at club level remains high.
As an organisation England football really are a total bunch of clowns. At least we won’t have to listen to Glenda going on and on about the Spurs players ad nauseaum for a while.

  40. bradster says:

I think England is struggling because there are no world class players available. Who in the England set up or English anywhere would you say is world class?

  41. rico says:

Morning Adam. I don’t think he’d want the job either, especially as he’s ruled himself out managing France. I think he likes the hands on stuff which comes with club management…

Really hope Hoddle doesn’t get the job…

  42. rico says:

    None.

But I think these English players don’t have the passion for their country, they don’t work hard for each other, they are just a bunch of individuals who care more about themselves than winning…

  43. Le Coq Monster says:

    Morning all

Personally I`d love it if Hoddle took the England job again and had Waddle as his assistant !………………it would then be compulsory that all England players would grow a tash and a mullet, we would look like the Germans and play like them !………………..and eventually occupy France and it`s neighbours !. 🙂

  44. Adam says:

Self-obsessed, overpaid, overrated, deluded bunch, bursting with a sense of entitlement rivalled only by Liverpool FC. Young men of indeterminate intelligence with money, tattoos and hairstyles forming the greater part of their motivation. Wankers led by lambs.

  45. allezkev says:

    I haven’t got any tattoos, nor a quiff… ?

    Morning All
    Morning Rico
    Morning Mr Adam
    Morning Lee

  46. Wavy says:

Wenger for England manager? Do Umbro make zipped puffer coats? If they do he’s a stitch in!
Will they pay him £8m plus a year? If not he won’t take the job. He has to consider his pension! And the FA have already built a new ground, so half his vision of the future has already been resolved. As we all know Wenger never does ‘half a job’
Wenger will not be the next Enland manager poster boy! Imo.
