Shock move for Chelsea striker? Seventeen players on loan & Vela wants out…

There have been quite mixed rewards afforded to Arsenal over the seasons gone by from the policy of loaning out players.

Arsenal do this for many reasons, mostly financial but there is a two-fold benefit that I think the club usually hope for.

That is, the benefit of our young players gaining experience and making mistakes at someone else’s expense before returning to Arsenal as players with 1st Team credentials or the benefit of putting players into the shop window and enhancing their saleable value, if they are deemed not to be quite up to the required standard.

In recent times, Ashley Cole and Jack Wilshere have been the two shining examples but for every Ashley Cole and Jack, there tends to be a lot more Rene Steers, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’s, Steven Sidwell’s, Nacer Barazite’s, John Spicer’s and Anthony Stokes’…

These players still manage to make a good living and have a good career thanks to the football education they received at Arsenal.

The income earned from their transfers and the sell-on clause’s often included in those deals, still bring continued revenue when they move again and helps to finance Arsenal’s Youth System.

At the moment, Arsenal have [ I believe ] 17 players out on loan – and quite a good team they could make!

Emmanuel Frimpong has shown an encouraging improvement in just a short space of time at Wolverhampton Wanderers but sadly injury has set him back. Regardless of his injury and as long as he makes a full recovery Frimpong will be an important member of Arsenal’s 1st team squad in the future but, he could yet be heading for another loan spell next season.

Ryo Miyaichi has gone to a tough training ground at The Reebok. Every game Owen Coyle’s team play between now and the end of the season, will be a must-win game. Ryonaldo won’t have time to adjust, he’ll have to hit the ground running, Bolton cannot afford to carry any passengers. I think it’ll be good for him, maybe learning how to look after himself from the likes of Kevin ‘baby-face’ Davies, Zat Knight, Paul Robinson and David ‘pretty-boy’ Wheater. This can only be more beneficial to him than survival tips from Arshavin and Diaby!

Joel Campbell has been coming along nicely at Lorient, where Francis Coquelin spent a good year last season playing regular 1st team football in Ligue Un. Coquelin has been a big bonus this season and hopefully, work permit willing, we’ll see another well turned out Lorient trained product next season, in our squad, in the form of Campbell.

Chuks Aneke has already been red-carded since his spell began at Stevenage Borough, but his suspension shows that he isn’t prepared to be intimidated by the hatchet-men of Division One. Stevenage are on the edge of the promotion race in their division, so every game is critical to them and their new manager. They have asked for Aneke’s initial short loan, to be extended up to the end of the season, despite him missing recent games whilst suspended. That shows the value they place on him as a member of their promotion fighting squad.

What Chuks will learn from that environment cannot be underplayed. He’ll gain enormously from the importance placed on every game and he should return to Arsenal a much improved and mature footballer, ready to challenge for a spot in the senior squad.

Henri Lansbury has had an injury plagued time of it at West Ham. It has hamstrung his attempts to show that he has the quality to be an Arsenal footballer. Previous loans at Scunthorpe, Watford and Norwich have yet to convince Arsene Wenger. The worrying thing for Lansbury, is that he could be passed-over by younger midfielders like Aneke and Ozyakup, and the new German signing from Borussia Dortmund, Thomas Eisfeld.

I hope he isn’t, as I really like Lansbury but this summer could be a crucial one in his career at Arsenal?

Being away from their comfort zone at Arsenal and finding out about the real-world, should do no harm at all to Daniel Boateng [ Swindon Town ], Sead Hajrovic [ Barnet ], Sanchez Watt [ Crawley ], Gavin Hoyte [ AFC Wimbledon ], and the unlucky Rhys Murphy[ Preston North End ]…

This coming summer could see difficult decisions being made about 2 or 3 of them and where their futures lay?

There are two South American lads worth a mention. Wellington Silva [ Alcoyano] and Samuel Galindo [ Gimastica ].

I think these two, still have a good chance of making the grade, if, as in Wellington’s case, he can sort his head out and in Galindo’s, he can stay fit and get a regular game.

Not sure what the future holds in store for the likes of Bendtner, Vela, Botelho, Denilson and Mannone but, in my opinion, it’s doubtful that their future’s will be connected to Arsenal in any shape or form after this summer. In fact this morning reports are in the red tops that Carlos Vela has said: “I don’t want to return to Arsenal. I have asked my agent to negotiate with Arsenal to stay here.”

Do you blame him?

Finally, The Daily Fail link us to Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge who is reported to be fed up with playing out wide for his current side. Whilst the story is probably another load of rubbish, what makes anyone think he wouldn’t play out wide for us, most of our strikers seem too….

    Tlailaxu – who cares πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

Morning all, we need two cracking results today, one is for Middlesborough and the other is going on in London…

Cracking post SAK, i think loaning players sorts the men from the boys, players who really want to prove and improve themselves, knuckle down and get on with it. What narks me though is so often we loan the players out and then the loanee club doesn’t play them…

Vela went to WBA (i think) and sat on the bench, everyone loses out, expecially the player….

Frightening to think we have 17 players on loan, wonder how much we are paying them πŸ˜‰

  2. W.A.T.H says:

Normally the club that has them on loan pays the wages Rico sometimes they even pay a fee as well to loan them…!

Does it show that we have far to many average players on our books or just far to many that are to young and need experience..?

  3. Tlailaxu says:

I in this case totally agree with the policy of loaning out younglings(not that I am ancient) but the loan spell is what shows what the kids are made of…i personaly hope that the likes of Boateng, Hajrovic, Wellington(especially), Hoyte do make it through and then impress Wenger(or the new manager) that they are more than capable of playing in our first team

  4. W.A.T.H says:

Scott, in regard to the question on the previous post about England players…..

Who know’s is the answer, i think a number of factors, i think technically we nowhere near as good as many european teams and thats from decades ago where work ethic and effort was drummed into players more than awareness and touch and finesse…! Coaching was a big problem for sure and the last 10/15 yrs I’d say England players tend to have huge ego’s and care more about the salary than the team and results..! We still not as technical as teams but we do have quality players but we never seem to get the right blend of manager/players picked/formation and of course the right attitude..! Just my opinion, World Cup 2010 prime example….. Utter shambles…!

  5. rico says:

    Wath, do they pay 100%?

I’d say the latter, too many young players all around a similar age, goes back to the question that does signing experience ‘kill’ youth or is youth killing our youth?

  6. K-TR7 says:

Good read AK.according to the mirror Miyaichi has been very impressive at training.he also scored a stunner against Preston.

  7. Tlailaxu says:

money wise i dont think we ever end up paying a penny of their wages as usually the kids do have talent and skills for example Miyaichi in Bolton, so the clubs are more than happy to pay their wages and sometimes even a fee as wath mentioned….
I know Rico, i dont care either just wanted to do it … =P

  8. rico says:

Tlailaxu – I’m really surprised that Hoyte is still with us, just can see him breaking into our first team, isn’t he a right back?

He’s 21 and with Sagna and now Jenkinson, he’s got to be one of many on the move in the summer surely

  9. rico says:

Hi Kt, Ryo is at the right club isn’t he, tougher training i should imagine, it’ll be the making of him…

What is happening with the two Barca kids we signed, what are they actually doing??

  10. Tlailaxu says:

@ rico 9.51 : … i was thinking about this the other day when we have signed Eisfeld…lets say he is amazing talented and ‘doomed’ to be a first team star, but, is there a good balance or not between youth and first teamers with loads of XP…. answer is clearly no(IMO), im more than happy to have perspective young players and loan them out or have a very good reserve team and some1 ready to step in if need be, but why not have less teens and one or two more experienced (23-24yr/olds) that do have what it takes to beat teams like manU,barca, real and so on… thing is we do end up spending close to same money developing or at least trying to develop youth, that we would spend if we bought those players that are needed in first team NOW, not in 3 seasons time…

  11. Scott from Oz says:

    Wath,
I hadnt coached for quite a few years til my boy began playing last year, aged 5.
    4 a side,no keeper……what the?????
Honestly,i thought it was crap, until I actually looked into the reasoning.
The local league gave me some info on the theory.
Brazil and Holland play nearly exclusively 4,5 or 6 a side until their teens,as the close ball control, and the ability to beat a man with skill, rather than pace,is learned.
I would assume England has taken the same approach to junior football, but how long ago?
Walcott is a prime example…….grows up using speed to beat his opponent, and is only now realising that pace isn’t enough.
It’s probably also the reason Australia has produced a physical type of player,in general, moreso than technical guys.
Our national youth teams are very, very competitive, but get to around U/18’s…..we are gone.
Hopefully, this will change in the near future.

  12. Tlailaxu says:

    Devil…me 2…
I think Toral and whats the other ones name, they are still very young, like 16-17, so under-18’s is where they are …

  13. rico says:

Tlailaxu – we have been saying that for a few years now, it seems each season there is a player or two for ‘next season’ – but seldom do they actually make it into the first team.

Jack is one, Coquelin has just started to get his chance but then look at the likes of Barazite, Merida, Vela etc etc – too many just don’t make the grade or remain on the books and get paid a hefty salary. We could be using their wages to pay an experienced player or two….

The probs with the reserves imho is they don’t play enough games in a season so players never really get a lot of playing time…

  14. rico says:

Does anyone else think that Anthony Stokes could have made it at afc, he’s certainly scoring freely in the SPL….

  15. Tlailaxu says:

    oh yeah….wish Middlesborough(sorry for mistakes) win today…
Rico… i know…i just have this feeling that the ones we have now will finally show that we do actualy produce good kids…. i mean the youngsters we have…. if they click all together i c no team stopping them…still think we need to trim the ranks…

  16. Scott from Oz says:

Is there a reason we cant have a B side playing on the lower league…..like Barca?
It would be great experience playing hardened pros, not just other kids as they face in reserves.

  17. rico says:

Tlailaxu – i think this current crop may have a few that could surprise but they still need experience around them too, players to show them the way… but then you know thet πŸ˜‰

Morning AK, he was and he will again i’m sure….

  18. W.A.T.H says:

Scott, Far to much coaching in England used to be about run run run and nothing with a ball…..! Know a few ppl with FA coaching badges who train with a few very good clubs and it’s nothing like that these days but many moan about the passion and the hunger of the kids when all they think they have to do is get to 18 get a pro contract and they have made it…!! As said a lot is about attitude all the talent in the world is wasted if you couldn’t give a shit…! As Devil says many players out there but no so many footballers…!

Rico, we have far to many 16/20 year olds it seems, wasn’t it Sp that did the article about kids killing kids…? seems spot on to me, what is the point if you rate a young player why keep buying more…?

Lots that we thought were ok have made a living elsewhere but were they really good enough for us Rico…? probably not when you look at it…!

  19. rico says:

Scott – in principle that would be the best way forward, and the fixtures mirror the first teams… but can’t see the FA allowing that here….

  20. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all.
Sir AK another fine post from the roundtable.
Your post i must admit has made me think about these youngsters you mention, I may be an old fogey here but i have to say that none of those mentioned there fills me with any confidence that they will be good enough for the first team. Frimpong being the only one i would have had in the squad, but now his career is in freefall for a year, i doubt he will get another chance. Players come in and straight away i can get a feeling if they will progress or not. Chamberlain gives me that feeling that he will become top class, as long as he does not suffer set backs i can see him go from strength to strength, I also felt that with Frimpong, but for some unknown reason he puts him out for loan that decision baffled me.Jenks is another that i had good vibes about he came in and showed me that he will do any job he is asked to do to the best of his ability, i feel he has a future with us. Although i have not seen Bartley play yet i had hopes that he could do a job for us but after two years on loan in Scotland Why would he want to come back here. Lansbury i was not that impressed with him and never had that gut feeling i can see him sold on. Let me say i hope i am wrong and they all make me look a right dick but i doubt it.

  21. allezkev says:

Just waiting for the engine to warm up.
    Sturridge eh???

Sounds like a load of dingo droppings to me. πŸ™‚

  22. W.A.T.H says:

SP, have to agree with a lot of what you just said…… I rate Jenks, Coq, Frim and of course Ox… The rest we really jusr don’t know enough about nor have we seen them perform at a high enough level.

I know Rico loves Bartley and yes I like his never say die attitude, old skool English defender attitude and he’s Arsenal but having seen a lot of him at Rangers I always look and think… Hmmmm not a good enough ball player and doesnt seem to read the game that well…! I like Lansbury as well but is he better than what we have just because we want him to succeed as we know he’s proper Arsenal…?

What about Afobe and Aneke coming through and a couple others that are now 17/18 that look better than the 19/20/21 yr olds that we still have on our books…? surely by 20 if they not in the 1st team or on the bench they are not going to make it..?

  23. rico says:

I agree Wath, far too many kids and far too many of them are average, but, i do think the like of Aneke and Afobe could make it with us, what pees me off is why keep buying kids from overseas and imho they are ‘killing’ the chances of a few home players…

    Lansbury is a typical example…

It take AW too long to make a decision on some imho, just how long did it take him to realise Randall had a bad attitude and was average? Just one eg…

  24. rico says:

    Morning Steve,

Wath – i love lansbury because i know he’ll put in more effort than AA, if i had to choose between AA or Henri, the latter wins hands down..

The same with Bartley – if he and Djourou were on the bench I know which one i’d rather come on to the pitch

I tend to compare who we have with who we have, not against who we would all like us to sign…

    Samba or Bartley – Samba
Lansbury or Parlour – Parlour πŸ˜‰

  25. allezkev says:

Jon Toral has been doing really well in the Youths. If i recall correctly, he’s had a game in the Stiffs as well.
Hector Bellerin is the other guy. Plays anywhere along the right [?] & been doing ok.
The next batch of kids coming up are a bit special as well, by all accounts.

  26. W.A.T.H says:

Am with you 100% on your comparisons Rico and your spot on for sure but again thats purely on attitude and commitment when in theory we need class with attitude and passion and commitment and thats where we are a few players short…! Give Lansbury AA’s class, skill and technique…. Imagine……….! As said some have all the ability in the world with no motivation and look what you get..!

  27. stevepalmer1 says:

I know my last comment sounds a bit presuptious but i feel the only reasons we have brought Ryo and Park is mainly for our pre season tour. Money making exercises that i don’t see as very helpful to our squad but as i said i hope i am wrong.

  28. W.A.T.H says:

AK, I remember Bouldy i think saying not long ago that there are 2 kids 14/15 that are as good if not better than Jack was at that age and as with Jack there is nothing technically they can teach these kids, from now on it’s all about attitude and hunger and how much do they want it….!

  29. W.A.T.H says:

SP, I think Ryo has tons of ability and from what we saw of him in Holland i think when he has bulked up a little he could very well be proper…! Agree with Park purely a commercial deal…..

  30. Scott from Oz says:

There will always be plenty who don’t make it for each one that does.
There are also going to be those who show up early, and the slow maturing types.
As long as a player keeps improving, you keep persevering.
Wath,am I correct in saying Ox didn’t play for a club as a junior……all his training was done with his dad???
Sign him up to help with the youth academy,I say.

  31. devilgunner says:

Hiya Sir AK. Good post regarding our loan players. A great pity to see Lansbury’s progress interrupted by injury. Also its not all roses at youth level…..see Bunjaku. He could have the world at his feet yet he wants to jump quicker than everyone.

  32. rico says:

I guess it’s a sign of the times though wath, I honestly don’t believe we will get what we ‘need’ so the concentration for me is on what we have… πŸ™

  33. devilgunner says:

Statistically all over Europe it is just 1 over 650 who play professional soccer. Out of those who make it only 20% play at the top level constantly and out of those who play the top level at their countries only 1% play at the very top. So statistically only 1% of the 1 over 650 play at the very top.

  34. rico says:

Steve, i think you are spot on re Park, but not so sure on Ryo..

Scott, think you are right, Chamberlains father was a very good footballer, strong and all the right attitude, he was the one who wanted his son to only consider one other club other than where he was – and that was of course us…

He was once the assistant coach of the East Timor national football team – don’t think he’s there now though….

  35. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning Wath, I have the feeling that Wenger can see a player who has been trained away from Arsenal, but to actually train a younster that may have show a bit of talent that is a diferent story. Wenger may be more of a phsycological trainer than a coaching trainer. he seems to get them thinking about their talent, but not showing them how to do it, if you know what i mean.

  36. devilgunner says:

It might do to get Chamberlain senior to coach the young ones. It will help the young one to be more settled. Seeing that he was quite a good player and also a coach will surely help the club.

On the other hand it might also stifle the OX. He needs to become his own man without his father being there for him all the time.

However they might well save a bit on petrol seeing that both of them will be at the club. πŸ˜†

  37. alan b'stard M P says:

Sturridge won’t play for us out of position if he is fed up elsewhere. he will go where his talent is appreciated

  38. rico says:

devil – but, if Chamberlain senior was to take over from Bouldy, Bouldy could take over from Rice and he and his son won’t see too much of eachother at training, and like you say, save on the fuel πŸ™‚

  39. Scott from Oz says:

Devil….get him to the youth academy……he’s done his job with the Ox.
Steve,if and when Wenger vacates the position of manager, how much would he be worth as a talent scout?
The absolute icing on his cake would be seeing Eisfeld blossom and become a regular first eleven player.
I know others are involved, but he has a bloody good eye.

  40. W.A.T.H says:

ABMP…. Sturridge will go to who ever pays him the highest wages mate he comes across as one of those…..! Shame really….!

Scott, your always going to lose the odd player who matures a lot later than others but you simply cannot afford to keep players that mature or develop slowly and are only average, if they 18 and still show promise how long do you retain them and at what cost..? thats where I think we are at… far far to many at the 17/18/19 age group all fighting for 3/4 positions and thats simply not going to work, make a choice out of what we have and let the rest go, buy out add on clauses will benefit the ones that go on to be very good but least your not holding 30 odd youngsters in the hope 2 become great players…!

I read that Wenger is looking at bringing in TA and DB to do specialized training with the youth..????? If there is any truth in that then maybe Wenger is beginning to realise the coaching staff needs a kick up the arse as well.

  41. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning Devil, The Ox seems to know where his going and i agree with you he needs to find his own way, he has talent and he has the right mentality, he has what appears to be a good football brain he can read the game and has the ability to fit in. In the four games i have seen him play in i have noticed that he has recieved some very poor passes and he’s clever enough to know not to chase those passes down. I can remember Theo chasing for everything when he first appeared, this lad won’t, he can pass a ball from one side of the park to the other and nine times out of ten it will find its target, the other players will have to take that into consideration when they pass to him.

  42. rico says:

    Wath

‘Give Lansbury AA’s class, skill and technique…. Imagine……….! As said some have all the ability in the world with no motivation and look what you get..!’

What AA has right now, we don’t want Lansbury having any of it πŸ˜‰

  43. John Lloyd says:

As I said AW`s fixation with will be the death of us.. In 15 years how many stars have we produced? Yeah! and where are they when we need them? Jack suffered the Malcolm Macdonald (oveplayed before time) Didn`t our hotshot medics check his bone density for pete`s sake? Until the body stops growing it is vulnerable. Both Jack and Gibbs appear to have added the odd inch or two this year – might tey be maturing more slowly than others? It sounds bloody suspicious to me.

  44. stevepalmer1 says:

Wath. i must admit they would be perfect coaches, but i don’t know where you read that but i would be very much surprised if that were to happen, TA has said that he wouldn’t come back to work under Wenger and i couldn’t see DB coming either. Both of these men are not yes men they would not take kindly to interferance and Wenger would definitly interfere.

  45. Micko says:

    Morning all,
I think if your a young lad who has come up through the academy and is told your being sent out on loan, in the back of their minds they must know their future lies elsewhere and as you say most will go on to make more than a decent living out of the game.
There are special cases like JW who are probably called into the office, sat down before hand and told they have a big future at the club before being sent out.
Never understood Vela, all that talent and he seems to have thrown it down the drain, same with Bentley, thought he was gonna go on to play for us for years but threw it all back in our faces.
As for cole, he was very close to signing for Custard Palace allegedly until Sylvinho got injured, we may have got a lucky break there.

  46. W.A.T.H says:

SP the mere fact they not yes men leads to think that if they did arrive a change in thought and direction would of taken place.

I heard Bouldy turned down the No2 job last season cos he said he would want input and not just sit there like a puppet hence can’t see him taking it next season unless something has changed….! banfield apparently has wengers ear so don’t be surprised to see him as the No2 and major yes man…! We could well be in for a shock though so lets see how it pans out…!
TA said the otehr week the only club he would coach at in England would have to be Arsenal and under Wenger would be great so depends what you read a swell and who’s telling porkies…!

  47. rico says:

Morning Micko, i didn’t know that about Cole, we did get lucky… I think you are not far off the mark on your loan view, how many come back and make it….

    not too many πŸ™

No, cleared of everything, must have had 12 spuds on the jury, how they swallowed up the defence i never know….

  48. stevepalmer1 says:

I stand corrected then Wath, the statment i read was over six months ago, things change quickly in football and i like the sound of yours rather than mine πŸ™‚

  49. Micko says:

I remember Frimpong on the box a little while back saying that as they were all coming up through the youth teams together everyone could see LJW was gonna make it, he was that special, from the same team the other two players who seem to have made the break through with Jack are himself and coquelin, the others still have a bit to prove yet.
Its like a jungle out there.

  50. rico says:

    Steve πŸ˜›

Odds have been slashed for Arry to become the next England manager, funny how all this happens as Capello is in meets with the FA which could result in him leaving his post….

So glad i am not a cynic!

  51. stevepalmer1 says:

Tell that to Frimpong Scott. But i understand where your coming from. Had that been me and i had waited all that time for a chance and saw eighteen year old Ox fit in as well as he has from outside and Mertsacker Blundering along from outside while i had been shipped out i think i would have been slightly pissed.

  52. rico says:

Scott, maybe it is and as AK says, it’s also the clubs chance to add a few pounds onto their value, clubs would know little about them playing in the reserves….

  53. rico says:

Aneke and Afobe are the next two Micko, they are meant to be a bit special….

Watt could think the same Steve each time Chamakh starts ahead of him, now he’s on loan and looks as if there is no way back…

Freeman – i’d rather seen him start than Chamakh and now he’s gone….

  54. stevepalmer1 says:

Looking at the England team we have Racist adulterers druggies brothel creapers taxi beaters, why not led by a let off tax evader and his dog. πŸ™‚

  55. W.A.T.H says:

SP, I also remember TA saying he could not return to Arsenal and be under wenger but the comments were when his statue was unveiled apparently so maybe a bit older and wiser and out of work he has changed his tune..?

  56. Tlailaxu says:

    Not guilty…unbelievable…

Ech,he’s not worth my time thinking of,it will come around at some point anyway…
RICO…aneke, adobe,Wellington, miyaichi and campbell,if they all make it through this season without injuries and then have a good preseason we will see them all feature for 1st team

  57. devilgunner says:

Welcome Tlailaxu. you mentioned Aneke, Afobe, Wellington, Miyachi and Campbell. If with them you add Yennaris, Coquelin, Frimpong, Wilshere, Ramsey, Ox, Chesney and Miguel that would be a lot of talent bought up by the club. Not forgetting Ozyakup also.

  58. rico says:

But we know that is a huge IF alan….

Adams, Bould, Keown – anyone of those three need to be involved in the first team imho, get the Arsenal back into Arsenal….

The latter three of those though Tlailaux don’t know much/nothing about what it takes to play in English football but yes, hopefully they will….

  59. Tlailaxu says:

Now come to think of it, Wellington and campbell both need a work permit?if yes then it’s a dilemma for Wenger…

  60. Marinello says:

Reports say that the Harry Redknapp court case will cost the British Tax payer Β£8 million…….
Doesn’t seem right does it? But then it is Britain….

  61. DutchGooner10 says:

Commercial enterprise has tightened it’s grip on all sports. Educated by decades of debate, well documented careers from cradle to grave, archived insights on grooming/coaching talent and the relentless profiling in modern society has resulted in an almost scientific earmarking of stock from a next generation. Many merely mortals over-excited, hand wringing to the prospect of guiding the next Mozart in the making or a diamond in the rough.

It has become a self proclaimed industry at recreational/amateur level. Creating military conditions to focus our youth on climbing the ladder. But let us not forget Maradonna, Cruijf, Pele etcetera all developed their joy for the game first. Juggling balls on the streets, playing “deadly grounds” no formations, experience combative intuition and emotional challenges without adult interference, discovering their own strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

I say drive the change, lose the shackles.

Ton-up Sunderland striker Bendtner faces driving ban

    http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/9519116.Ton_up_Sunderland_striker_Bendtner_faces_driving_ban/

Instead of buckling down and working hard to be the top player he proclames himself to be why does this idiot always get in the news for the wrong reason???

    Such a waste.

A piss poor attitude. That is what happens when they are given fat wage cheques early in their career when they still havent proved themselves.

  63. Micko says:

Devil, he smashed up his Austin Martin only a couple of years back, was lucky to get out of it alive, the bloke has the brain of a dead ant.

Mind ya, when your on his wages the first two things you are gonna go and and buy is a big house with a moat around it and a fast car.

Me, I’m quite happy with my vauxhall chevette.

  64. W.A.T.H says:

Spot on Devil, a complete and utter big headed egotistical wanker…! more concerned with the dosh hence the number 52 on his shirt to show off his weekly wage… Says it all…!

DG thats the other thing is this day and age of playstation kids rarely kick a ball about anymore….! Another reason for dwindling talent ????

  65. Joaquim Moreira says:

Bendtner doesn’t want to play for Denmark next European Cup in June…
sometimes, I have watched Vela playing. Sometimes in the line-up team others like a replacement man. Well, spanish football is more accuraty for him, Besides, living in San Sebastian is quite different from London πŸ˜‰

  66. Tlailaxu says:

Agree devil, this guy instead of proving all wrong just keeps on doing things that r wrong…he says he doesn’t want back to arsenal,I say he shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near emirates, such a fussy arrogant git…

  67. W.A.T.H says:

JM, I have always thought that inside Vela is a very talented footballer waiting to escape yet he never seems to quite make it out…..!

Yet another one that doesnt seem to want to work hard enough to make it actually happen…!

  68. Micko says:

Wath, cop yourself on, he was found innocent, its not like he hid the money in an off shore account under another name and didn’t declare it to the inland revenue.

  69. DutchGooner10 says:

    Devil

Talking about piss poor. I remember Bendtner, still with us at the time, being arsed out of a London nightclub wearing jeans and undie around his ankles. Paparazzi being notified before they threw him out to emphasize his shameless behavior in the ladies room.

Never regarded him as a Young Gun since. Although, according to the article he had his pistol drawn from the holster. πŸ˜‰

  70. W.A.T.H says:

    Sorry Micko me bad….!

My apologies to that very lovable and innocent cheeky chappie Dodgy Arry…..!

I remember a Brum mate of a mate who said what a waste of time Bendy was when up there on loan, he said strutted around like he owned the place and never ever put in a shift…! Sounds pretty familiar eh…! yet still he’s on our books and has had at least two pay increases sense then…. Pathetic business sense/management !!

  71. W.A.T.H says:

Spot on Dg thats exactly what they call it, if anyone on here did it we’d be looking at 12/18months of bird……!

  72. DutchGooner10 says:

Don’t know Micko. He tried to stun gun his victim, thinking he had 10.000 volt in his eal. πŸ˜€

  73. Tlailaxu says:

Transfer Tavern claim we are interested in ‘Β£42m’ Olivier Giroud…what loud of crap,he is good and still just under 26 so he might fetch some Β£15m if lucky, but I get sick when I read article title linking Arsene with any1 that cost more than Β£10mil

  74. Tlailaxu says:

That’s what I thought,Wenger would probably manage to put together a team able fighting the survival of PL…I reckon…

  75. DutchGooner10 says:

    WATH re PlayStation kids.

It seems youth is obsessed with mental satisfaction without putting in the effort. Fantasy football allows you to rocket a career and make managerial decisions outside the boundaries of reality. There’s a instant sensation of achievement. It totally ignores physical demands, circumstantial variables and facets.

But it’s not all doom. I think it also serves a educational value. Watching and influencing a game from birdeye view. Get a sense of flow in a game. Building competitive confidence. Experience requirements in athletic confrontations. Taking on a one-on-one and restart when you fail. Finding creativity in concentration.

It’s up to parents to provide balance in entertainment and the reality of life.

  76. agirlagunner says:

A really, really good write, SAK. πŸ™‚ Loans out can only be good for players. My sense is that they go back to AFC with a little more enthusiasm, and they look just that little bit more grateful.

Bendtner, however… what a waste of money. He can go out on a perpetual loan, none of us would be bothered.

    Boo, everyone!

  77. Micko says:

Thailaxu, wenger doesn’t like to spend the sheckles but the board sure like to pocket them.

4th place is still up for grabs, everything to play for, big month ahead, spurs is gonna be fun.

  78. allezkev says:

    Boo Agag.
    Afternoon Gooners.
Although the transfer window has closed. Apparantly a loan window has opened..!
This may only concern young players, not sure.
Saw it on Arsenal Youth blog.
So we might see a few more youngsters going out on loan?

  79. allezkev says:

    Devil, 10.53;

Alban Bunjaku is a very good player, but i think his Father is a nightmare.
Bunjaku has had trials with 3 or 4 clubs as Arsenal seem set to let him leave.
So far he’s had no takers…
    Another David Bentley methinks.

  80. agirlagunner says:

Hey, AK! πŸ™‚ How goes the driving? I’m all for our players going out on loan. No point keeping them around when they won’t be having many games. Better to get experience elsewhere.

Hi, Micko and Dutch and WATH.

  81. Tlailaxu says:

I know Micko, 4th is defo possible. I was thinking now,why and how did we get the result against Blackburn…the way I see it that for the first time this season the team was playing with joy and relaxation, regardless of the sending off I think we would have ended up with some 5 goals, when we conceded the equaliser was when it all went right, can remember a reaction like this from a team, there was no panic, nerves, silly balls and bla bla,the guys just went on with their game…I just hope that Wenger manages to convince them they can produce this level of performance for the rest of season,I always knew we had the right players, but their minds need to be sorted, especially the likes of Walcott, ramsey, djouru, song…inconsistency is what’s killing us for laser few seasons

  82. allezkev says:

    Rico, 10.54;

As far as Toral & Bellerin scuttling back to Barca. Reckon they’ll wait until we’ve developed them before buggering off.

  83. allezkev says:

Hiya Mick. Busy today, thankfully… πŸ™‚
I could be rolling again any second soon…

Agag i know a lot of the loanees won’t make it, but they probably wouldn’t have made it at AFC anyway. At least when they’re out on loan it can increase their value.

  84. Devilgunner says:

Hiya Sir AK. How are you this afternoon??

Pa says hello. he is near me at the mo. We are the father, son and Prince together.

  85. agirlagunner says:

Hello, Tlailaxu. Micko, haha. πŸ˜› I’m safe thousands of miles away in my summery weather. We would at least get better prices for them, AK, I agree.

  86. Devilgunner says:

Top four possible?? I would say with the right attitude, good players coming back and the right choices regarding players and tactics could see us 3rd even though we are 10pts behind the scum.

  87. Micko says:

Tlailaxu, the chavs away was also a fantastic result, it was great to beat Blackburn the way we did but no-one can deny they are a really poor side, Sunderland away this weekend will be a lot tougher, Martin O’Neil has turned them right around, they’re just beneath us in the table, it would be great to go up there and give them a good hiding, make up for the draw last season when rosicky missed the pen.

  88. Devilgunner says:

L’Arsenal ha ufficializzato il rinnovo del contratto del difensore svizzero Johan Djourou fino al giugno 2015…….

Translation…….Arsenal have officially announced the contract renewal of the defender Johan Djourou till june 2015.

    Happy days.

  89. agirlagunner says:

Hiya, Dev. Howdy? That’s not such bad news provided he remains a second stringer or third. πŸ˜‰

  90. W.A.T.H says:

AK re the two kids…. Nope no names were mentioned mate as Bouldy said there is no pressure and when names are mentioned people creates far to much expectations on young players so all he said was we have 2 players who will remain nameless…! That’s how it should be… Keep quiet don’t blow smoke out their arses at such a tender age and let em fight for the right to wear our shirt seeing as it’s not talent alone that makes a great player as we are all well aware.

Evening to you AGAG hows those nice pink Docs of yours…?

  91. DutchGooner10 says:

    Hiya AK and Agag.

Having too many loanees can cost our academy laurels, as it would convey we’re counting on mathematical chance instead of primary scouting and selection. I imagine it drives prices down. Scarcity creates luxury products.

  92. Devilgunner says:

W.A.T.H…….That’s how it should be… Keep quiet don’t blow smoke out their arses at such a tender age and let em fight for the right to wear our shirt seeing as it’s not talent alone that makes a great player as we are all well aware.

We should try and drum that into a few heads at the Ems. Maybe more will make the grade.

  93. W.A.T.H says:

I still get the impression that even the kids are far to pampered Dev and they don’t know they born when it comes to making it as a pro.. it’s all on a plate for them instead of being made to fight for it…. it’s wrong in my opinion, only when your in the first team and played 50 odd games can you claim to of made it…! then a player with ambition wants to win things and still push on not just be happy with 50k a week in his pocket..!

  94. W.A.T.H says:

The good old days of the youth cleaning boots and sweeping up the dressing rooms to teach them the ropes and instill some reality of what they fighting for is long gone it seems…! Hardly a wonder most become such prima donnas…!

  95. Devilgunner says:

That is because there is a hierarchy at AFC. For example RVP will play even in the eventuality that a better player is found. Although at the moment it might be inconcievable to drop RVP what happens if at the club there is a player who averages a goal a game and plays only in the position that RVP now occupies??

Obviously good footballers adapt anywhere. However there is a hierarchy at the club……and once you are in that position they make life easy for you. Whether you perform or not. That is why the present system is not good. We do need to get performance related bonuses, especially with the young ones. You play well….you get a performance bonus and the more you strive the better your chances of being in the first team.

  96. agirlagunner says:

Point taken, Dutch. But some of them are redundant; it seems unwise to keep them and not give them and not give them any chance.

WATH, hmmm. Why do I get the feeling that you’re a closet Nikki Pinky Kinky Boots? πŸ˜› If you were a girl, I’d send you photos of my new shoes. πŸ˜€

  97. DutchGooner10 says:

Agag true, but contrary to a personal shopping spree a institute can sell itself short downgrading quality levels. πŸ˜‰

  98. W.A.T.H says:

AGAG, if you were to send me pics of your new shoes i’d prob be looking at pics all night long…. πŸ˜›

Problem is Dev the bonus and incentive performance related pay package is never gonna work when players can get huge salaries elsewhere, my thinking is it should be set by eufa for all clubs to play ALL players under 21 set wages per age per game per win per draw per goal per game if picked for their national team etc etc… If that was brought in ALL kids would grow up earning the same and knowing winning and putting in a shift is priority to earning a good contract when they turn 21…. what’s the chances of eufa doing something like that…. More chance of me wearing pink Docs watching the yids down the swamp….!

  99. agirlagunner says:

But Dutch, you keep the cream of the crop; and loan out the rest. Keeping them when they have little to no chance of playing will only make them resentful.

WATH, I wish. πŸ˜‰ You really are fond of those pink Docs, aren’t ya? Get yourself a pair in time for Valentine’s day. πŸ˜€

  100. Micko says:

Wath, careful you don’t trip over your tongue.

I thought a young footballer hadn’t made it until his first girlfriend sells her story to one of the Sunday newspapers and his agent has to come out and deny it.

    Afternoon rico.

  101. DutchGooner10 says:

    WATH

Performance based benefits might be a revolution. But there’s a snag to your proposal. It levels the plain with the exceptional. You need 11 players on the pitch. For clubs in lower divisions it could seriously damage their provisional business end selling talents to survive economically.

  102. W.A.T.H says:

If they exceptional Dev then they will still be bought by bigger clubs who will see at 17yrs of age An Other is playing every game for Div 2 side banging in goals getting MOM every week…? back to the old adage of the cream comes to the top…. It would not stop the exceptional youngsters from sticking out it would not stop big transfers but even when bought by a big club those wages structures should be in place until they 21…. I am merely saying impose it on the wages and NOT the transfer if a big club does come in for them at a small club and they at what ever age…!?!?! could work but it would need to be imposed all over Europe…!

  103. W.A.T.H says:

If your after a pressie for Valentines forget it……………. I have far to many already that I need to buy for πŸ˜€

  104. DutchGooner10 says:

Agag I meant there should be a golden nuggets washing at the gate instead of collecting gold dust from piles of waste. A bit of Harvard standards wouldn’t do us harm, me thinks.

  105. rico says:

AK, your 4.20, didn’t one of them say he wanted to go back to barca one day, and on the day he signed for us – what a joke eh but you are right, they are at their temporary training ground for a few years, then the stains will come crawling, if they turn out to be any good…

makes me wonder if we have an agreement with the catalan club…

  106. Micko says:

I heard the other day on the radio its more excepted in countries like Spain and Italy that strikers earn more money than the rest of the team as they’re the guys that bang the goals in and as a result the whole team benifit through win bonuses where as other here if a player gets a pay rise he’s often followed by half the team banging on the managers door looking for something similiar, sounds plausible.

  107. rico says:

Did i see the name Jack Jebb mentioned earlier? think i did a post on him once, he’s meant to be pretty tasty isn’t he?? In footballing terms i mean of course….

  108. Tlailaxu says:

I am pretty sure it’s because of me,but today is so peaceful and hormonical here…u lot needed a peacemaker…=)

  109. Micko says:

Rico, everyone wants to be a striker, if Almunia wants to sneak out the back door tonight i’m prepared to call it quits.
Yesterday was just a storm in a tea cup.
    Laters.

  110. agirlagunner says:

rico, before I am off, I must say that AW is quite the comedian “… I would add that the purpose of a coach is to always buy at a price he sees fit.’ In his case, cents. Haha.

    Dutch,and Micko, behave!

No need, WATH I can buy my own shoes, thank you very much. Plus, your selections are quite eeeek. πŸ˜›

    Bye, Tlailaxu. πŸ™‚ Night, everyone!

  111. rico says:

You and me both re Almunia, as long as he’s handcuffed to Nik, Denilson, AA, Fabianski and a few others πŸ˜‰

    Have a good one…..

Nighty agag, thats not what i’d call Wenger πŸ˜‰

  112. W.A.T.H says:

Night AGAG…………. I know you want a pair of those pink ones your just in denial…….! Sweet dreams….!

Micko, storm in t cup or a sheep in a bar….? All your fault.. to*r*g….

  113. devilgunner says:

Hi Tlailaxu……..what is hormonical??? something to do with hormones???? πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

    Joking dear friend.

  114. allezkev says:

    Wath in pick Docs….

Now that i’d like to see.

Maybe he could wear them when he goes clubbing with spandex JJ…? πŸ™‚

  115. allezkev says:

Have to say Wath, in a rare serious moment, that i sat up when i rwad your 11.22.
DB10 & TA6 coaching our youth players. That would be excellent and as it’s the Academy, comes under the remit of Liam Brady. So Wenger cannot stick his oar in too much.

  116. allezkev says:

Rico, tbh, i’m fairly underwhelmed by the progress or not of those young Spanish kids at Arsenal.
We all know that they’re using us as a stepping stone back to their blasted DNA bolthole.

  117. allezkev says:

Devil i’m not really sure as i don’t associate with men that wear such items.
But Wath told me that it’s a kind of latex all in one suit.
The sort of thing Stan wears at weekends…. πŸ™‚
    Hi to Pa btw

  118. rico says:

I get you AK, if i had my way, we wouldn’t sign any spanish kids for a long while, i’m only just getting over Merida going πŸ˜‰

  119. devilgunner says:

Crikey Rico…..how many soft spots do you have??? RVP, Cahill and now Merida. Bet your house is plastered with wall paper pictures of Arsenal players.

  120. devilgunner says:

Listen Sir AK….as long as they are bought for a few pennies and are sold for millions than I am ok with Spanish lads.

  121. W.A.T.H says:

AK, back to TA and DB coming on board, Although the youth is down to Brady there is no chance Wenger don’t stick his nose in… on a day to day basis obviously not but you know full well he’ll want everything done his way although their personalities would rub off on players thats for sure and their love and passion for the club.

Fabio Capello has resigned as England manager, the Football Association has confirmed.

Capello resigned after a meeting with FA chairman David Bernstein and general secretary Alex Horne at Wembley.

An FA statement read: “The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England manager.”

On Monday, the Italian publicly challenged the FA’s decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy.

The FA’s statement continued: “The discussions focused on the FA Board’s decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello’s response through an Italian broadcast interview.

“In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio’s resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England manager with immediate effect.

Bernstein said: “I would like to stress that during [the] meeting and throughout his time as England manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner.

“We have accepted Fabio’s resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future.”

A media conference with David Bernstein and the Club England management team will take place at Wembley Stadium on Thursday at 1200 GMT.

The FA will not be making any further comment until the media conference.

‘Odds have been slashed for Arry to become the next England manager, funny how all this happens as Capello is in meets with the FA which could result in him leaving his post….

So glad i am not a cynic!’

    Now I know why i am a cynic……..

  124. devilgunner says:

Quick go and bet something that Redknapp will be in charge of the game against the Dutch national team.

In crouch he trusts. Bent, Defoe, Sturridge…………..

  125. Tlailaxu says:

unbelievable, this capello thing is so messed up…
if it will be The Tax Dodger the next manager in charge of Team England then i guess there will be more drama than until now…but resultwise probably he will get the players up to the level where they can really be and perform as a team as until now they were too busy with their egos and capello didnt really have any control over some of the individuals…

now regarding tottenham, its really interesting who is gona be their next manager and in how many days come summer they will sell bale modric and few more?… i might be wrong but it looks like a way down starts here for the totties…

  126. W.A.T.H says:

I reckon Arry may ask to do it part time until the end of the season to stay with the yids til then…?

OR does Pearce take over part time til the euro’s….????

you will be amazed Rico……but I can also tell you that we will all be shitting in our pants.

    I dread even the thought.

    I am skedaddling off today.

It was a nice day. As Tlailaxu said…..”very harmonical”

Calm sea is the delight of every sailor.

“hat’s half-time! Gervinho gives Ivory Coast a 1-0 half-time lead.45’No one got a challenge in on the Arsenal man and he made them pay.
44’GOAL! MALI 0-1 IVORY COAST. Gervinho collects the ball from Yaya Toure inside his own half and dribbles right the way into the area and curls right-footed into the far corner!

  132. rico says:

Ah, thanks JM, he’s back at AM?

No way will Ronaldo come back to England, let alone to play for the yids, Jose wants Manure, he wouldn’t go to the Totts…. never….

  137. allezkev says:

So it’s gonna be Sunderland in the next round of the FACup. That’s going to be a toughie.
Glad the game went into extra~time. Sunderland should be tired this weekend, especially in the 2nd 45.
Lets hope that TH12 has saved a goal or two more for us this month. The winner vs Sunderland FAC, the winner vs Milan and the winner vs the Scum. That’ll do for me.
    Goodnight Gooners.
