Shame on the fans! Our boys did ok didn't they?

Morning all,

There should be a few fans, both from Brazil and England, who should hang their heads in shame.

On a night when a period of silence was to be observed as a joint tribute in memory of the victims of the Munich Air Disaster, the anniversary of Sir Bobby Moore’s death and the Santa Maria fire, a certain ‘few’ couldn’t keep quiet.

Shameful, it really was.

At times like last night it didn’t matter whether you like or dislike Manchester United, Sir Bobby Moore or West Ham. It matters not if you weren’t there, or didn’t know anyone in Brazil when that nightclub burned down.

Lives were lost and many family’s were left grieving after each incident. How could decent humans beings not want to be part of observing the memory of those lives?

Maybe the answer is in the question……

I haven’t watched England for a while but with both Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere selected to start, it seemed like a good idea to do so last night. It had nothing to do with Brazil being the opposition, honest! Well, maybe a little bit.

I enjoyed the game too. Watching Jack Wilshere boss the midfield and pinging accurate passes left, right and central was so pleasing on the eye, and witnessing Theo Walcott cause the Brazilian defence all sorts of problems was good too. Shame he didn’t grab himself a goal.

Joe Hart and Julio Cesar were outstanding in their respective goals and the latter, well if he is still at Qpr on the 31st August I will be amazed. He simply is an outstanding goal keeper and one we really should have tried harder to sign.

Elsewhere, Giroud, Sagna and Koscielny  were all involved at some stage for France in their 2-1 loss to Germany. Mertesacker and Podolski both had a run out for the victors. The tall one of the two played the entire match!

Monreal and Cazorla had a run out for Spain in their 3-1 victory over Uraguay and Tomas Rosicky featured for the Czech Repulic against Turkey in their 2-0 victory. Szczesny conceded a goal in Polands 2-0 loss to the republic of Ireland and I think that’s about it.

No news of any injuries to report although I did get slightly concerned when Walcott was hobbling about a bit for a while.

The younger players, well Chuba Akpom scored a first-half brace in England Under-19s’ win over Denmark. The striker, who has now scored five goals in four games at under-19 level, was substituted just before the hour.

And finally, Benik Afobe started and was replaced at half time as England Under-21s convincingly beat Sweden in Walsall.

That’s it for another day, and another boring international break is over.

Have a good day all…..

Why the heck did Spain play in Qatar???

    Because the Kiwi’s were busy Rico… ;P

    Morning

  2. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning all.
Rico, Cesar went to QPR to play top flight football, so unless one of the big clubs is getting rid of their keeper, he will be staying, i reckon.
I didn’t see it, but everyone is just raving about Jacks performance.
    Morning all.

  3. rico says:

Jack was sensational Scott. he’d easy fit into a Brazilian shirt….

He went to Qpr to secure a career after football according to the player, what a joke! I wonder what he earns there…

But, Chelsea or Manure will be in for him in the summer, or another big club…

  4. dave the gooner says:

i do not understand why people can not show respect. what the hell was that last night it was shamefull. there should be bans handed out

  5. rico says:

I said big club Scott 😉

I’d love us to sign him, or Begovic. Both are gettable, especially is Arry’s signings don’t gel and they get relegated…

Mind you, Stoke wouldn’t sell to us I bet…

  6. TT says:

But, Chelsea or Manure will be in for him in the summer, or another big club…

Which sure as hell wont be us as he will cost more than £ 5.47…

As for Jack he had a good game but take into account this was a friendly and jack is English which automatically makes him world class if he can string together more than 5 good passes and can run 10 yards with the ball without loosing it…

  7. emma says:

I wont mind a cheeky bid for Cesar. Szezesney needs competition. Kos had a calf injury and was replaced at HT. Ramsey was sent back to arsenal after injury his calf at wales training ground
    Good morning b/w

  8. rico says:

He sure does emma, mind you, Fabianski is fit again, that should be enough to keep Ches’s feet on the ground 😉

Will have to wait for an update on Kos….

  9. rico says:

I think that’s being quite harsh on the English players. Especially some of the more recent ones.

    Lampard
    Gerrard
    Rooney
    Carrick
    Cole
    Terry
    Ferdinand

    The list goes on….

Any one of those above would have walked into our team a couple of years ago….

  10. rico says:

Have to go off for a few hours now. Have a good day folks and chat later. You’ll be asleep Scott so Night 😉

  11. Lee says:

TT may be pulling your leg slightly….just a thought Rico. JW had a really solid game but it was a friendly…..

  12. Scott from Oz says:

I thik we have seen enough of Jack to know better…..he did carve p Barca a few years back.
    Night Rico.

  13. allezkev says:

    Morning Gooners
    Morning Rico
Excellent post boss. Some fans are just plain thick.

Great by Akpom, and that lad is only barely 17, & a major part of the U19’s…
I hope that Chippy Brady gets the credit he richly deserves for developing our Academy. But you also need the raw talent in the first place.

  14. TT says:

For me Jack will have to do this game in game out to be in a world class category. A very good and promising player no doubt but he cannot be classed as a world class as many of the tabloids are doing off the back of a couple of club and international games. For that he needs to repeat this again and again.

My biggest worry is that in a year or two he’ll look around the dressing room and decides he don’t want to be carrying some of the overpaid dross there anymore and fucks off. I could not blame him if he did, it’s hard seeing your international team mates lifting silverware year after year when the only thing he gets is a “the fourth is a trophy” trophy.

I sincerely hope he wont but if things don’t change at The Arsenal soon I fear that this will be the most likely outcome…

  15. Scott from Oz says:

    TT, he is a Gooner.
The guys that have left recently were not.
I reckon that plays a massive part, as well the fact there are so many good young kids coming through.

  16. Guns for life says:

Well JW played well yesterday but i noticed podolski was efficient for his team each time his on the ball but he is rarely given a pass on the french side when gomez had a header(from a corner) evra was at the pole but nobody was at the other so i wondered where was sagna he has been caught out of position a lot of time and if Germans used podolski i bet it would have been a better win.Sagna is good though where he stays but if he gains more positioning awareness he would be worldclass again(he once was) for Per he had a good game and walcott was just fantastic but wilshere was the greatest of our international players.thats what i saw though ,what did you guys see?

  17. TT says:

And so was TA who by his own admission considered a switch to UTD….he could not do it in the end though. So was RvP who, at a young age had his bedroom covered in all things Arsenal.

In the modern game, growing up at a club has not the same sentimental attachment as before for many reasons.

But it is always a big plus though when a player has grown up at a club I agree, but I take it as any guarantee that he will stay for ever..To do that we have to build a team that can challenge for titles and cubs and quite frankly I don’t see that happening at Arsenal at the moment while things are as they are..

  18. Lee says:

I’m with TT on this, if we don’t match his ambition in the future he’ll fuck off, Gooner or not! We need to sort out how our £140m wage bill is distributed, ie be able to match some of the bigger salaries that are on offer out there! Stop paying shit/underperformers £50/60k pw! The whole squad needs addressing……

  19. W.A.T.H says:

    Afternoon and spot on Lee…………..

Dross out, stop the overpaying of average and pay the better players more in line with what they can get elsewhere, I don’t mean 200k per week but 120/140k a week and playing for a team that is competitive and can win trophies will keep them at the club.

Back to the same old story, all about intent and ambition from board and manager..!

  20. allezkev says:

Middlesex Hotspurs, country bumkins, when Arsenal were the only team in North London…

Untold Arsenal have loads of stuff on the Middlesex Spuds spinning of history…

  21. allezkev says:

As the Spuds were a Middlesex club in 1901 & 1921, that means Arsenal, in 1930, were the first London club, to win the FACup.

It also means that Arsenal, in 1970, were the first London club to win a European trophy.
Spuds won the Cup Winners Cup in 1963, but as a Middlesex club…

  22. W.A.T.H says:

They have always been and always will be Middlesex swamp dwellers….. C**ts as well although that’s to good a name for that shower…!

  23. agirlagunner says:

Internooze, hence, Bash the Spuds Day– on second thoughts,, any day is a good day to bash the spuds, really.

Glad to hear Jack played fantastically well, rico! He’s going from strength to strength, that boy. 🙂

  24. W.A.T.H says:

A slow week Will, internations have a habit of making things dead boring and dull cos it’s not Arsenal news…!

  25. allezkev says:

Personally speaking, the best tunnel i’ve been thru was on the Hi-Speed train line between Essex and Kent, next to Dartford…

  26. allezkev says:

Personally speaking, my favourite curry is a chicken tikka jalfriezi. With a garlic naan and pilau rice…

  27. W.A.T.H says:

    Morning……………
Feels like it as it’s so quiet apart from AK going off the rails with his gibberish…!

Think he forgot to take his tablets this morning.

  28. rico says:

I have been too Lee, just hoping his words suggest his ankle is better. Merts is ok too but Kos, I am not sure.Haven’t seen any updates….

Same with Theo, suggestion is he could be out which will be really bad news….

  29. rico says:

Don’t, don’t even go there. If anyone at the club ever let him go, no matter what the fee, they should be fired, literally!!

  30. Lee says:

Well Arsenal will have to change their policy…..the nucleus of players we’ve got with the right additions could be a dominant force for sometime! Gotta change from the top though!

  31. rico says:

We could have had Cesar for free.

    Capoue for £10 million

Both of those will be priced out of our market in the summer I’m sure.

  32. Lee says:

The biggest problem that needs addressing is the annual wage bill…..£140m, yet no one earns over £110k pw, too many mediocre players getting £50k+!

  33. rico says:

No it’s not but as we all know, the players are being paid too much, other clubs won’t pay them the same and so we are stuck with them

Until either SK says ‘give them away’ – or Usmanov comes in and lets them all go, we have all this with a few more players yet….

  34. Gonerjoe says:

Is it to late to bring Usmanov in to Arsenal now with the new PL FFP rules that was voted on to day have we missed the boat for a sugar daddy to do Arsenal any good.

  35. rico says:

    Gj, why???

We don’t need to spend £100 million, even if we did, I am sure we make that anyway. All we need to do is left the rubbish go for a start and that would save us nearly £330k a week.

That will pay 3 very good players a salary each week.

So, all we reall need to do is spend £60-70 Million on players and we are done.

Some of which could be recouped by selling a few off….

  36. Lee says:

Night Rico….we just need someone that wants trophies not a healthy balance sheet! A man can dream, can’t he?
    Good night all you Gooners!!!!

  37. Gonerjoe says:

    Rico
Arsenal can do all that without bring in a sugar daddy like Usmanov.we would only need him if we where going to spend money we can’t produce are selfs on players and wages but because of FFP.

  38. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning all.
    Ginge has gone awol??
Rico, Madras and vege are two words that just do not go together.
Madras and beef…that is a different story 🙂

  39. Gonerjoe says:

I know but even the sugar daddy clubs won’t in future if FFP is in forced properly. All the money sitting in the bank will give us a bigger advantage now than in the past because the sugar daddy clubs would just out bid us our tempt our players a way with wages no clubs that are run properly just can’t meet.

  40. W.A.T.H says:

Much rather Bergkamp…. Proper Arsenal man unlike PV who went to the Manc oilers for a bit of extra wedge…!
