Morning all.
Just a short post today to refresh the site as there won’t be a post for 2/3 days. My internet is being switched off at midnight tonight and I won’t be reconnected until sometime on Wednesday afternoon. Don’t worry, I have paid my bill, I’m just moving home…
Here we go again, another story from another source without any evidence to support the suggestion made within said story.
The headline: Arsenal looking to offload Martinelli? Bayern keen?
The story – Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli is a transfer option for Bayern Munich, who missed out on signing Florian Wirtz to Liverpool – according to reports in Germany.
Other reports claim the Brazilian winger could become part of an Arsenal clear-out alongside Oleksandr Zinchenko, Reiss Nelson, Jakub Kiwior, Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga.
I read £50 million is the amount Arsenal would expect for our 24 year old Brazilian winger. Personally speaking, I think he’s worth more than that, especially when Brentford value 25 year old Bryan Mbeumo at £60 million.
If Arsenal were to sell Martinelli, how much would the club then have to spend on signing someone better? Martinelli is a regular Brazilian international footballer who Arsenal need next season. In my opinion of course.
Another report I read on Sky Sports relates to Liverpool’s under 21 central defender Jarrell Quansah who is currently playing for England under 21’s. Fabrizio Romano suggests he is on the verge of signing for Bayer Leverkusen for a fee in excess of £34 million. Admittedly, he’s looked pretty good for England but still, £34m is a lot of money to be getting for a 22 year defender who I’d have thought would in line to replace van Dijk if good enough. Credit to Liverpool though for obtaining such a fee though, I wish Arsenal could be as smart in the transfer department. Perhaps if our younger players were given minutes on the pitch more often, we too could be a club better at selling players.
Sticking with the defender theme, I would imagine this coming season could be a big one for Maldini Kacurri who turns 20 in October. I imagine he’ll stay with the club until January at least so he can feature in the domestic cups before heading out on loan after Christmas, hopefully to a club better than Bromley and a club where he will play more than three times in five months.
Arsenal’s pre-season training is just a couple of weeks away, our first fixture takes place in less than a month, yet at the time of writing, not one player has ben added to the squad. Officially I mean.
I do believe Zubimendi is signed and sealed but our chase for a striker is slow. Very slow. Rumours are one thing, and there’s been no shortage in that department, but we need Arsenal.com to spread some official positive news.
Catch up in the comments.
Good morning Rico.
Good and thought-provoking post. In fact, I do not know what they are cooking at the Emirates. But I choose to trust Arteta, as Bertha is yet to earn my trust.
Selling Martinelli, and with our squad depth issues, irrespective of who they bring in, will be one step forward and three steps backwards! Anyway, we are in the season of speculation and we will hear all sorts, including Josh Kroenke transferring to the other hated side of North London.
We are slow, (but hasn’t that always been the case), but with all the Josh, Arteta right noises, I am confident they will get it right.
But selling Martinelli – there will be a riot.
Good morning Rico, I hope everything goes well with your move, stay calm, take frequent sips of water and only swear as a last resort if the odd hiccup appears. 😉
Sell Martinelli? Wash your mouth out girl! 😉
Morning Daniel, Cicero, all.
We’ve been here before though with promises. Just hope this time it proves the words were nothing but more empty promises.
Thanks Cicero, the removal company are doing all of it so most of the stress has been removed. I’ll bear in mind your tips though.. lol
Hey, I’m against selling Martinelli, it would be bonkers imo. Trossard yes, but not Martinelli, he just needs a striker up there with him him instead of an empty penalty area.
This is an interesting one imo, Max Weiss going to Burnley for £4 million. Future German number 1 perhaps…
Good morning Rico and all
Nice post. Makes one think.
As I said in the previous post Zubimendi will wear the number 36. Currently that is Tommy Setford’s number so that means that TS will get a new number.
I wonder what number will Gyokeres get if he comes. For me its fingers crossed its him. While I acknowledge that Sesko might be the better option his wage demands plus his other transfer demands have put me off him. I agree that at the end of the day players are professional workers and have their own opinions and rightly so. However, certain things I agree with the club’s structure and feel that they shouldn’t bend backwards for the sake of one player.
I do not think that Martinelli will be sold. Arteta knows that he is important to the team’s attack plus the fact that there will be riots if he is sold.
BP 50M??? Martinelli is worth 75M+ due to his age, brazilian international etc. Even if (don’t believe its true) Rodrygo comes I still would keep him.
With regards MAx Weiss, whilst he is very promising, I think that the future Germany number 1 is already at Bayern. Jonas Urbig. Between January, when he signed for BM and the end of season he played in 8 games in the Bundesliga plus 4 in CL. During this season he has won the Bundesliga with BM and also the Bundesliga 2 with FC Koln.
Keep in mind his name. Urbig will be one of the best
Morning Devil, I guess much depends on the clubs finances. I didn’t think ESR would be sold, however..l
Arsenal people are very stingy .WHY spend time trying to sign the likes of Sesko etc when there are so many younger and less expensive strikers. Selling Martinelli will not solve anything at all. Take Waneri and covert him into a striker, he has loads of talent or at the worst sign Ollie Watkins.Sign Rodrygo to bolster the attack and the team is good to go .
Unless we are going to splash big money on CF, big money on winger and a various other positions then I dont think that much depends on clubs finances. We sold MArquinhos and the Tavarez, stand to make money from other deals, profit from the gate money, prize money from EPL and CL.
Does anyone believe we honestly need to balance the books by selling MArtinelli???
Yes I do think Martinelli should be sold. We need someone who is stronger in delivering into the box and not selfish, which I believe was Martinelli’s biggest problem last season – “if Saka can do it so can I” which hasn’t been the case 90% of the time with him. I don’t think he is quite the “mustard”!! Yes on occasions he has delivered but you need to be consistent which he isn’t, so let’s get the £50m Arsenal want for him and get someone in who can do this.
Us fans can’t be sentimental anymore. The Premiership and the Champions League are tough! If we want to win silverware tough decisions have to be made which Arteta, Berta, etc, are making.
Selling Martinelli would not make financial sense , whatever we got for him would be swallowed by getting a replacement that may or may not improve things . In my opinion he has not reached his full potential , his work ethic is tremendous , his recovery tackles have saved us on quite a few occasions but it’s his finishing that needs improvement .
I know that we have a defensive coach and a goalkeeper one not to mention the set piece coach but who is the one that is responsible for shooting ? I am sure that an ex player with a goalscoring pedigree would bring out the last bit of Martinelli’s jigsaw and were that to happen his value would be immeasurably greater than at present.
Football styles and systems evolve through the generations and sometimes I yearn for a Supermac or any one that wants to put the ball in the net with such force that it takes the keeper and the net as well and deposits them on the North Bank or the clock end.
Morning campers, apparently the guy who ‘broke’ the Martinelli to Bayern rumour has linked Munchen with about 5 or 6 other wide attackers, so it could all be a bit of a fishing expedition?
What’s the betting Rico that the minute your internet is switched off that Arsenal make 3 of 4 signings?
Need to get India out for under 250 because the talk is a wicket that’s going to turn on the final day!
Devil, we sold both for peanuts though.
Couldn’t agree more Potter.
If we sell Martinelli and sign a replacement, we are no further forward imo.
Kev, wouldn’t be at all surprised.
Laura, its not being sentimental when we comment about not selling Martinelli. Its being practical. If we sell Martinelli for 50M I can assure you that any club which buys him will be getting a players who is worth definitely more. Plus what’s the sense in selling him and getting in another winger?? We still need another winger because even now with Martinelli we need to bulk up the squad for depth. So what’s the point of selling him, buying a winger to replace him and add another for depth? we would be spending much more than if we bought another winger and let them fight for his place.
It appears that forward coaching is spread amongst all of the coaches including Arteta . Despite having dedicated coaches elsewhere the forward coaching is a miss-mass of opinions and ideas . Perhaps that’s why we are basically shot shy as there is no-one coaching the art of scoring goals with movement close in and and pot shots further away.
I wouldn’t say Martinelli was selfish, how often have we all been screaming “for goodness sake SHOOT”. There has been little point in getting beyond the fullback and crossing the ball as there is seldom anyone in the box to aim at.
Afternoon Rico and all.
Hope the move goes smoothly, and nothing more than a tea cup gets broken.
If Martinelli want to leave or Arteta see’s him as surplus their is no need to keep a player that does not want to be their or needed but 50 mill sound a little cheap I would try for 70 mill.
We have seen in flashes that Trossard , Martinelli and Nelson for that matter have the ability to score goals but it always comes down to their being isolated on the left without the support process given to Saka on the right .
We know that Saka is capable of producing on his own but then again he gets a lot more of the ball mainly because Odegaard always looks for him first.
From my lonely position on the North bank I often see our left wingers making runs from wide into the box but 9 times out of ten it goes square or right .
It’s about movement and observation , we are prone to short passing which inevitably slows the progress and enables the famous low block to form players like Iniesta , Xavi , Bergkamp , Pirlo all could pass but they played with their heads up and could spot the movement before it happened . I even remember Fabregas telling Henry where to run . Midfield players have to have an ability to see 360 degrees and know where everyone is before they get the ball . Everytime our playmakers spin in circles looking for a pass it means that the forwards have run out of room to move into . The forward momentum has to be quicker.
Take it back to yesterday Potter, the need for an attacking coach like Bergkamp.
Arteta was a defence minded player and it shows in his coaching. IMO, we are far to conservative on the pitch.
